Telling jokes, going off script with the crowd late night in philadelphia. We will show you more of that coming up. President obama kicking off two days at the united nations. Talks with russia are high on the agenda, we hear. A lot of people wondering if he can find some Common Ground are Vladimir Putin. It is sunday we are grateful for your company as always. Welcome. Im christi paul. Good morning. Im victor blackwell. The city of brotherly love definitely opening its arms to embrace him as he is returning the love that we have seen so far. Largest crowd yet expected today at the popes final mass. We want to show you some of live pictures here. This outdoor mass here and some are predicting 1. 5 Million People will attend. Obviously, still dark right now, but what youre seeing could be packed with people by 4 00 today. Certainly could. Last night proved to be more than a musical event as the pope took the stage. More on that in a moment. Here is what we can expect today with rosa flores. Reporter it is time to say so long to the pope. Today is his last full day in the United States after a twocountry tour that included cuba. Now, today is an actionpacked day for him. In the morning, he visits with the bishops. He has gone offscript before when he speaks to his brothers. After that, he visits with inmates. Now, that is expected to be an emotional encounter for the pope. In bolivia, he walked inside that prison said i am here as a sinner. I am a man who has been forgiven and very touching for the inmates there. Today wraps up with a giant mass here in philadphia. Now, this is expected to be the biggest mass in the United States because its going to be at Benjamin Franklin parkway, openair, tons of people. We dont have exact numbers yet but its expected to be the biggest mass in the United States. Again, its time to say so long to cope francpope francis. He heads back to rome, and, of course, we will be following every step. The popes speech last night was vintage francis lets say. It was warm. It was funny, and it was full of craze. Listen to how he spoke to the faithful about being part of a family. Translator some of you might say, of course, you speak like that because youre not married. Families have the difficulties. Families will quarrel. Sometimes plates can fly. And children bring headaches. I want to speak about mother indoors. Simply simply. Families, there is always light because the love of god, son of g god, open also that part of us. But just as there are problems in families, we have to remember that there is the light of the recollecti resurrection afterwards, because the son of god brings that part. Forgive me. But i have to say that the family is like a factory of hope. Its a factory of resurrection. So joining me live from the Benjamin Franklin parkway where the mass will be held is pablo sandoval. I know its quiet there now but when youre expecting 1. 5 Million People, how long before people show up . Right now you find only press and police here at Benjamin Franklin parkway. The last seven to eight hours have been crucial. Look behind me. You can see a small army of workers. They are converting what was yesterdays concert stage into a religious sanctuary. Yesterday, there was this very interesting looking digital screen protecting some of the video images. You can see that has now been taken down and now the golden cross stands out at the steps of what is the Philadelphia Museum of art. We are already seeing people line up because instance the gates open here in a matter of minutes we expect people to make a mad dash to secure a good location around the perimeter. This area here observed for special guests but the general public is invited to assemble belong the Benjamin Franklin parkway. The majority of them have will to watch the mass on large scales and 40 have been set up throughout the downtown area and along the parkway. Walking through those crowds yesterday, there seems to be this feeling that is okay with them, as long as they are at least within a mile of the pontiff. This is a special day for them as a Million People are expected to attend but, ultimately, we will have to come at 4 00 when the mass is celebrated and what will the pope do during that mass. The scramble as we have seen throughout this whole trip of people just trying to get a glimpse of him. As rosa flores mentioned, later this morning, the pope will sit down with a hundred inmates from a correctal facility. Good to have you with us this morning. John, start with you. There were so many who expected we would hear from the pope during that joint session, maybe someone would perceive as the more critical elements of his visit. I want to put up on the screen something he said in 2014 about incarceration and the abolishment of the death penalty, quote, all of its forms. He said in the penal code of the vatican the sanction of the life sentence is no more. Should we expect something more critical than the message that most are expecting today . Well, when the pope holds these meetings with the inmates, i mean, these are not policy talks. These are the pope acting as a pastor. You heard rosa talk about that meeting he had with prisoners in bolivia when he walked in saying im a sinner among sinners and i want you to know i too have been forgiven. He talks all the time about what he describes as a throwaway culture, a culture in which whole categories of people are regarded as disposable and certainly on that list he always includes prisoners. That said, clearly one of the reasons that he chooses to hold these meetings with inmates is because he wants to make a statement about rehabilitation. This is a pope who strongly opposed to the denial penalty and he is strongly opposed to life imprisonment. He believes the criminal Justice System should not be punitive but an opportunity for people to turn their lives around and i think that is the symbolism of what he is doing this morning. Father deck, we have seen, over the past couple of years, the pope wash and kiss the feet of inmates. That is on holy thursday, of course. But what should we expect later today, the interaction between not just the inmates, but also the Corrections Officers and some of these families . Victor, you know, this is the time for the pope to be the pastor that he wants to be. Now prison is also a metaphor. He has been saying this whole trip that we are all imprisoned in many ways. If you could have seen him last night go offscript and to witness it and to be that close to it, it was electrifying. Why not throw out all of the texts and this man speak from his heart and come alive when i wanted too . When he walks in the prison today you will see what we saw last night. Thats when he can come alive. When he can relate his people. Not when he has to have his head in a text but when he connects people and we had six families that came to this stage behind us and they told their poignant stories about family life and their struggles, a family from argentina. He was visibly moved by that. I know its hard and the plates fly as wherheard, but god is lo. I think that we have to let him be the pastor that he wants to be because that is what he wants to do. John, lets look ahead to the homily today. Do we expect, covering the pope as you have, this will be something that was prepared before he left rome, or is this something that would be likely reflective of his time in cuba in the United States . Something that has taken shape over the last week or so . I think the honest answer to that question is god and the pope only know. Yes, there is a text that has been prepared in rome before he left. You know, theres a team of speech writers in the vatican that helps with this sort of thing. If there is one thing we know about pope francis, he is very sensitive to moments and if he feels that there is something in that moment this morning perhaps has been building up within him along the way on this trip, then as you just heard father rightly say, he will not consider himself a prisoner to his own text. He is perfectly capable of setting that aside own opening up his heart in his mind and sharing it with that crowd. That said, you know, the big theme here this morning certainly will be the family. Remember, the pope is here to sort of wrap up this world meeting of families that the vatican sponsors so its been going on in philadelphia all week. There are people here from more than a hundred countries. This morning, the bishops he is meeting with are not just American Bishops but bishops from all over the world who have been here in philadelphia for this meeting. So certainly we are going to hear the pope reflect on the theme of the family. Whether he does that through the vehicle of his prepared homily or something that wells up in him spontaneously, all i can tell you there, is stay tuned. We will. Thank you both. We have complete coverage of the popes final day in america all morning and afternoon right here on cnn. Donald trump says hes got a plan for your taxes and he is going to lay it out, we believe, tomorrow. Plus, a night under the stars turns into panic and chaos. Look at the pictures we have coming in here as two people are fighting for their lives after they were hurt during a Music Festival in arizona. Plus, barack obama and Vladimir Putin, the heads of the United States and russia, they are meeting at the united nations. This is a frosty relationship of the two sides so what can we expect . patrick 1 whats it like to be the boss of you . patrick 2 pretty great. patrick 1 how about a 10 raise . patrick 2 how about 20 . patrick 1 how about done . patrick 2 thats the kind of control i like. New this morning, in the race for the white house, republican frontrunner donald trump will soon be making a major policy announcement, unveiling details of his tax plan. His Campaign Manager says the plan will be released monday morning. Last week, trump said the plan would call for middle class tax cuts and tax hikes, causing for loopholes for wealthy Hedge Fund Managers. Listen. I think its a plan that is going to create great incentives and i think a plan that will make people happy, other than maybe the hedge fun guys who make hundreds of millions of dollars and pay little tax. Those guys will not exactly love me. Lets break this down with ben ferguson. Good to have you back. Good to be here. Good morning. Reporter good morning to you. I want you to listen to with what former president bill clinton told fareed zakaria. I got to ask you about donald trump ps as a great student of american politics, what explains donald trump . Well, first of all, hes a master brander and when you got a lot of people running and people are trying to make distinctions, being able to put a personal stamp on it so people identify with who you are accounts for something, certainly in the beginning. Then he said to the working class supporters of the Republican Party that had largely shifted over for cultural reasons. Ill give you economic reason to vote for me. Ill build a center wall and give you a reason your incomes will go up. That will have to be flushed out in the course of time. Im sure the other future debates will do it, but hes got a lot of pizzazz and zip and branded himself in a clear way he has generated some excitement. And it remains to be seen what is going to happen. Could trump be the nominee . I think so. Wow. How do i know . I dont understand i dont understand any of it very well. President clinton says he doesnt understand any of it very well but i woned hder how assessment plays in the primary fight. I think its last months, i think so, should be replaced with i hope so. Hillary clinton is hoping she is running against donald trump because i think she believes she can pick apart his grandiose ideas. Bill clinton is right about one thing about donald trump. He is an incredible marketer. He has made this debate a lot more fun, just the ratings we saw here on that debate on wednesday night at cnn were incredible. It was like it was a super bowl event for politics all because donald is in it. But i also think you got to look at the details and a lot of these other conservative candidates are now going to be pushing on him on actual details and plans. He has the big ideas. But can they actually back them up and that is where i think he is vulnerable. Lets talk about these details because we are expecting this tax plan to be released. What does he have to say and from what has been hinted thus far, an increase or closing loopholes for the Hedge Fund Managers is there an appetite of increasing taxes on anyone in this primary electorate . I think there is some but i think the other candidates will say do we need to be spending this much time on a small sector, Hedge Fund Managers . Look how few people are in that industry. Is it going to have an impact on the average american if we raise their taxes is in the answer is no. But it also is a brilliant move politically because its somebody who an insane amount of money anticipate and youre the rich guy in the room saying they are not paying enough money and from a political standpoint it is a great idea. Youre talking about raising taxes on a very wealthy and small group of people that you associate with, so it looks like youre going to police your own and i think this is more about politics than it really is about tax policies. Its more about winning votes and getting people excited about you than it is about actually having any impact on the economy for the average american. Yeah, but what we will have to see, ben, is if he will carry this narrative throughout the rest of the week without stepping on it. He released that Second Amendment paper but we didnt hear more about it because it was more about the criticism. Ben ferguson, talk to you later. Thanks. Today on fareed zakaria, here more about Donald Trumps tax cuts today at 10 00 a. M. Two people are seriously hurt in a concert chaos. And a deadly crash that killed four people in seattle. You see Singer Aretha Franklin there and Sister Sledge took the stage. All morning and afternoon, we have live coverage of the popes visit today so stay with us on cnn. We brought to you the popes address to the u. N. General Assembly Last week. President obama has a busy week ahead. He is hosting meetings with World Leaders including a summit on fighting isis and on the agenda is a meeting with Vladimir Putin. Lets go to richard roger. As we have said, we have focused on the popes dress but we also know that this week, top u. S. And iran diplomats meeting for the First Time Since the nuclear deal. Reporter thats right. The pope has left the building but stars will be addressing many major issues. Yesterday, secretary of state kerry met with his iranian counterpart for the First Time Since the big nuclear deal. Secretary contrary looking to making major inroads with the middle east including the iranian. We need to achieve peace and a way forward in syria, in yemen and the region itself. I think there are opportunities this week and through these discussions to make some progress. Reporter nevertheless the United States has not invited iran to that terrorism summit you just mentioned, victor. Other issues . Today, president obama will be in the building. Its the third and final day of Development Summit and what the president will talk about, his major address will be on monday. Also among the speakers on saturday, cubas leader who used the occasion to, once again, jab the United States regarding its embargo. Translator the reestablishment of the diplomatic relations between cuba and the United States, the opening of embassies and the policy change introduced by president barack obama with regard to our country has elicited the broadest support of the international community. However the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against cuba persists bringing damages and hardships on the cuban people and standing as the main obstacle to our countrys economic development. Reporter large applause for the cuban lead as there always is because the United States is heavily outvoted concerning its own embargo inside the General Assembly. France announcing this morning it, for the first time, has bombed isis targets inside syria. Victor, back to you. Richard roth for us at the united nations, thank you. President obamas relationship with Vladimir Putin has been particularly dicey since russias involvement in crimea and ukraine and president obama says the two leaders will talk about that and i want to bring in sir tony brenton who is the former British Ambassador to russia. We appreciate you being here, sir. With your unique perspective, the white house saying mr. Putin requested this meeting. Do you see that as a genuine outreach on his part . Do you think its for show . What do you make of it . First of all, the russians are saying its by agreement. Mr. Obama, up until a mere few months ago, was talking about isolating rusch and putin. Because they are together says they have a lot of business to do. A good time for the meeting because u. S. Policy has moved significantly in the russian direction in regards syria and the talk on ukraine. Actually, inside the meeting there is lots of scope for progress. What do you think it would take for russia to back away from assad as we know the u. S. Would prefer . Russia isnt going to back away from assad. Russias key concern in the region is prevent the rise of fundamentalists. They see the choice in syria as assad on the one hand who is nasty and they know it and isis on the other who is also nasty. They are not going to back away from assad. What is striking over the last few days is that the United States and the United Kingdom and other countries have acknowledged they do not expect assad to go instantly. The west is moving in putins direction. The Iraqi Military this morning announcing a new intelligence sharing agreement with russia, iran and syria. In this battle against isis, since you brought it up, wouldnt this confirm u. S. Suspicions that there was some sort of cooperation between baghdad and moscow . Undoubtedly there is. A wide range of countries in the region, including iran, including iraq, including saudi arabia who loathe and fear isis and are keen to cooperate could deal with isis. The key obstacle to preventing the west being a part of that coalition, that activity, has been our insistence that president assad should go before any Serious Business could be done. As i say, that insistence is weakening so i would expect, especially in this weekend, in the u. N. , quite a lot of back stage discussions of finding ways of cooperating actually to bomb and deal with isis. You have seen that ash carter last week, for the first time in a year, spoke to his russian opposite number precisely with the contention of deconflicting enabling both countries to ge in the get in the way of operating against isis. Thank you for your insight. We appreciate it. Thank you. Of course. So a lot of people might be wondering what was pope francis like before he took over as head of the Catholic Church . Up next, we are talking to a long time friend of the pontiff about the man who had become pope. Plus, new air strikes against isis as we heard from richard roth a moment ago, as the number of people looking to join the group grows. Moments after stepping off the plane in philadelphia, pope francis blessed a young man you see here in a wheelchair right behind the barricade. His parents brought in to catch a glimpse of the pontiff and its become an iconic trip of the trip of the pope thus far. The peoples pope here. For more lets bring in a long time friend of the pontiff starting back when he was a father. Good to have you, father. I wonder, you saw him at st. Patricks. What was that like for you . Thank you, victor. It was of kind of remembering the great man, the great friend that he has been over this last 30 years. I was a young seminary when i meant him as a father then. He was only 48 years old at that time. He was the man that you see. The man you see there. His embrace a little kid you see there and ready to bless family. The man apologize music. Its wonderful had that ability last night where music was an important part. As a young priest or a man, he was a man who loved music, especially classical music. There were some amazing moments. I want to get to an emotional moment. You said you broke down and cried when you heard the news that he would be the next pope. Tell us about that moment. What did you feel . In watching the musical enough i was in broadway teaching at school in new york and i was with juniors. The moment that i saw cardinal mario, i just sat down and cried. And i would say tears of joy. Joys because i knew the man, i knew that he will be the great pope that he is, the man concerned about the poor and [ inaudible ] and the man who loves young people. Yesterday, philadelphia, another example of his commitment to the future generations for pope francis to go to this. For me, it was the old memories of my [ inaudible ]. With all of these early memories, can you tell us one thing maybe people do not know about pope francis that you do . Well, i will say that he was he liked to play dominos. Dominos . Okay. Yes. Most of the time, i was playing with him and sometimes when i play against him, i cheated myself okay, all right cheating the pope at dominos . To know that i was doing something good. Pope francis, obviously, from the reaction and the reception we have seen in new york and d. C. And philadelphia. Now we are expecting more than a Million People later today, this will be has already been a historic visit and will resonate and we will talk more about the fruit of his visit throughout the show. Father, thank you so much for being with us this morning. My pleasure to be with you. Thank you. Certainly. Of course, we will have complete coverage of the popes last day in the United States, including a look at what is ahead for this afternoons mass at 4 00 p. M. In philadelphia. Good morning to you. The war on isis inside syria is expanding this morning. The french, for the first time ever, say they conducted air strikes on the terror group inside syria earlier this morning. This is coming amid grim news of americas effort to stem the flow of isis recruits overseas. 250 americans are reportedly tried to enter iraq or syria and that is more than double the number from a year ago. Lieutenant general is joining us from portland. Thank you for being with us. First this news about france. How significant do you find that to be . We have been expecting this for sometime. The british and the french have said they were going to conduct reconnaissance flight and possibly strike operations. We thought the french would go nirs and they have. The french capable forces, good to have them in there conducting operations. I think this is a positive. It expands our capabilities against isis. The air campaign has not been having the desired effect, so if the french can help that is welcome. When we hear about the report 250 americans have tried to enter syria or iraq and what does that tell you about the vulnerable to some sort of attack . Isis has been trying to attract westerner to trains and be sent back. I think this complications the problem for the fbi and other Law Enforcement organizations because they have got to identify these people, track them when they come back. The problem is the fbi has said its almost impossible to do that, especially if they dont have any criminal record so this is going to cause a problem. If not when, do you think where . Not only that, they will send people and train them and continue to the campaign to have them conduct lone wolf attacks. It is relentless and keep up. They are having success and it boggles the mind of people want to go there to fight. Not only that, but, you know, lets talk about this new Iraqi Military announcement about the new intelligence sharing against isis with russia, iran, and syria. What do you make that have . I think this was inevitable. As the russian put forces in syria, they are react to go what they regard as an american failure. Our effort to get some people there on the ground has just collapsed. Russians are there in force now and work with the syrians and iranians and opening up their doors to the syrians. They are capital on that. Us, demanding that assad go is putting us at odds with our other allies in the area, so i think the russians are being very smart here and i think they are going to force us into some sort of alliance with everybody else against isis and that de facto makes us a supporter of assad. El cnn Rick Francona, thank you for your prospective. Good to be with you. We will continue our complete coverage of the popes last day in the United States, including a look what is ahead for this afternoons mass in philadelphia. We are family i got all of my sisters with me translator i wont speak about mother indoors. A whirlwind stop for the pope. Fireworks and music and you heard a few jokes at the festival of families. Happy sunday to you we are so grateful for your company as always. Im christi paul. Im victor blackwell. Good to start a sunday with you. I want to share with you live pictures where the pope is going to celebrate his final mass as the sun coming up there in philadelphia. This could be one of the largest outdoor masses ever and more than a Million People is expected to attend. The pontiff starts with a meeting with the bishops at a seminary in about two hours. Followed by what could be one of the most memorable moments of his trip here to the United States, a meeting with about a hundred inmates from a correctal facility on the outskirts of philadelphia. The pope still basking in love and warmth of that speech that stirred the crowd last night at the festival of families. He threw aside his script and just spoke from the heart. And with it, a bit of humor as well, which was nice to see. Yeah. Big hardy laughs from the pope last night. Miguel marquez joins us from the ben franklin parkway. I was about to ask about people lining up already and there they are behind you. Reporter this is called a whirlwind but it is not that. It is a psatsunami. He is taking this crowd by storm. It is nine hours, you guys royalofrealize . Nine hours from erie, pennsylvania. Youve been traveling all night and just here for today. Excited . Woo reporter i want to give you an idea where we are. This is the route where the final mass will be. We are about a quarter mile from the stage itself and goes down that way. This is the last point where you can actually if you dont have a ticket you can get in pen people are lining up along here. You can see the giant reserves of water that way and people out here who have been up since 4 00 in the morning. Out here since 4 00 in the morning from the philippines, guatemala but they all live in the United States. Why are you out here . I really believe in the pope and what he comes out here to say. I love the fact he is so fresh and he brings new ideas and he is changing everything so im really happy he is actually making a difference and standing up for what he believes in. Reporter you live on long island. Staten island. Im sorry, staten island. This is your mom . Has this pope brought you closer to the church . Yes. Yes. I had actually stepped far away from the church and i disagree with a lot of things the church has stated but i love the pope is actually very nonjudgmental and something i really believe in and i like he is stepping up and just letting us know, you know, we are not supposed to be judging people and he is very open reporter thank you very much. Enjoy. Good luck. This is a gentleman from argentina who lives here now. This is patrice from connecticut. No, im from williamstown, new jersey. But youre originally from colombia . That is correct. Reporter what do you make of this pope and his thoughts on immigration . I dont agree with his thoughts on immigration. Reporter why not . Im a new my brothers have to wait in colombia 13 years before they got their papers. If i went through the right system, i think everybody should do the same. Now do i agree . I agree this should give them like a visa for three or four years where they can start doing the process, but i do believe the United States has a process, a system in place for immigration and they should be either everybody in the same page or they are going to have to take and overhaul the whole system. Reporter you dont think this pope is saying the right things on immigration or you think he is . I mean he is pro immigration. I dont agree with him. Reporter wow i dont agree with him. Reporter you may be the only one out here. No, i dont agree with him. Reporter but you love this pope still . Why . I love him. He bring freshness into the Catholic Church. I do believe like, his ideas of the church to be married i think is a very good idea. Also his bring the jews into the church which is promoting people to be common to the catholic Religion Without so much of the conservativism. I like the idea he talks about homosexuals being a part of the church and dont condemn them and i think a great idea. Where, before, that was a taboo for the Catholic Church. Reporter it is amazing to hear the people sort of talk about that renewed sensibility and changing of the church. I want to show you down here. Actually, the number of people waiting already in the nonticketed area which we are seeing here are some of the buses and the police they are bringing down and they will pass by here in a second. They are bringing into the area to cover this thing all the way down by the stage area. It is a massive, massive logistical effort here that they are expecting 2 Million People for. Its interesting to hear from the woman you spoke with, although she disagrees with the pope on several issues, its the tone she appreciates. Miguel marquez for us there on Benjamin Franklin parkway, thank you very much. The event yesterday was hosted by Actor Mark Wahlberg and including Aretha Franklin singing. At the end of the festival you see some humor from the pope. Listen to this. Translator families have the difficulti difficulties. Families will quarrel. Sometimes plates can fly. And children bring headaches. I wont to speak about mother indoors. Simply simply. In families, there is always light. I love that. In families, is there always light. Lets talk about what is come today with john allen and father beck. First of all, john what do you think is the most significant moment we see today . I think they are all going to be significant moments, christi. If you ask pope francis what the most significant thing he is going to do today, i suspect he will probably tell you that meeting with inmates that is occurring this morning. Look. I mean, he is very carefully prepared the message he wants to deliver to bishops this morning and we should say this is not just American Bishops, from bishops from all over the world taking part in this world meeting of families. There are delegations from more than a hundred countries here. And certainly the homily he will give at that huge mass this afternoon, i mean, he understands that is his final message on this trip and he has invested a great deal in it. I followed francis around on all ten of his foreign trips, it is very clear to us that the moments that mean the most to him are when he can get into personal contact, these kind of small settings when he is with real people is when you see francis come alive, and particularly when he has the opportunity to meet people that he feels have been marginalized or excluded in some way. Concern for prisoners is one of the hallmarks of his pa pas pap. Today is an opportunity for him for a bone brief shining moment and go back to what he is in his heart a pastor. I think to like of the pope as the whole worlds perished priest. Father beck, we dont know if this will happen but possibly a meeting with clergy sex abuse advisers. Lets listen to this. He better not be patting the bishops on the back. That is unacceptable. His other statement he said was he realized how much the pain in recent years has weighed upon the bishops. Are you kidding me . Is that a joke . I have three childhood friends who have committed suicide that, you know, their families are suffering, they have suffered, their entire lives from this tragedy and its the church that has turned the back on victims and they continue to turn their back on victims. Father beck, do you think the pope will meet with any victims . And, if so, how do you think he can speak to them in a way that might be impactful if they carry with them the same scarred memories that we see from that representative . Christi, i certainly think we might see a meeting. Its happened six times before. Benedict has met five times with victims of abuse. And pope francis in rome met once with victims of abuse. So its quite possible i think that he will do it again today. It has to be today since he leaves later. This is probably where, again, francis is best. He will engage with people, he will listen to their pain, their struggle, and he will, again, apologize. Its not as if this pope has not apologized to victims. Remember, in those instances that the gentleman spoke about, he was speaking to his bishops as father to sons, and he said we have to do better, but he also wanted to give them encouragement. The Catholic Church has come a long way if you look in the last 15 years of this abuse crisis. Where it is today is very different from years ago and Great Strides but yes, there is more to do. He was trying to be encouraging as a father to his sons with his bishops. He wouldnt call them father to sons but he calls them his own, his equals. We have to understand francis deals with people as individuals and, today, if he, in fact, meets with victims i think with we will see a pastor tending to his flock. Father beck and john allen, so appreciate both of you this morning. We have new details on this developing story out of arizona where at least a dozen people were hurt when the crowd rushed the stage at a Music Festival. We will get you some more on the injuries suffered here and exactly how all this all went. Plus, the battle brewing over John Boehners resignation. How this fight could shape the future of the Republican Party. Not just in house leadership but beyond. Maybe the nomination for president as well and we will bring you continuing coverage of the popes United States and the fireworks display during last ni nights festival of families. Just might be the one. To clean the oceans, to start a movement, or lead a country. It may not be obvious yet, but one of these kids is going to change the world. Alrea there could be a battle between the tea party and more conservative republicans after House Speaker john boehner and the stunning announcement on him on friday that he will resign in october after years of contention between the two wings of the Republican Party. We have back with us conservative radio talk show host ben ferguson and with us also is jeffrey lord. Good to have both of you. Jeff, i want to start with you. Lets look forward here to the possible replacements. Majority leader Kevin Mccarthy and lets start there. Is there any challenge, in your opinion, likely to his challenge to that position . Or maybe rogers or scalise . There is others throwing their hat in the ring here. This is the congressional version of what is going on in the president ial campaign. Youve got the insiders represented by mr. Mccarthy. If you exchanged boehner for mccarthy, i think a lot of people are not going to see any difference so this is a big deal. I would also add this goes back to the reagan ford divisions of years past. What would this mean, ben, if we transfer to this the gop nomination fight and now that boehner is out does this relay a message to more establishment candidates for the nomination, bush or christie . It absolutely does. The main reason so many people have not been excited about jeb bush because he has been labeled the gop establishment candidate. And we have seen him struggle to stay up at the top. The same why you see ben carson and Carly Fiorina and donald trump doing so well, they are all not politicians. For at least the last six years, true conservatives have been just absolutely disgusted with the that i was Speaker Boehner has run the house. They dont feel he has fought against the president near enough, they dont believe he has fought for conservatives like he promised he was going to do. It finally caught up with with him. When he says this has nothing to do with him, you know, retaining the speakership, its laughable. He was going to be in serious trouble and it was getting a lot worse. And when he saw eric kantor go down, i think he thought i dont want to lose a speakership that way much less my seat in congress and i think it tells you about the Political Climate in this president ial election. People couldnt want a gop insider and they do not want an establishment guy at the white house. Reporter lets talk about this brewing fight. I wonder after boehner leaves, does this create a litmus test for that selection when thevy have to vote on the debt ceiling or fund the government in december that more conservative members of the party are going to require to get their vote for speaker, you have to be willing to shut down the government . You bet there is going to be a litmus test here. I mean, mr. Mccarthy may well be able to carry the day, but this is exactly the same issue as with Speaker Boehner. So basically all youre doing is changing, you know, a brown suit to a brown striped suit here. There is no difference in the minds of conservatives. So, yes, you are absolutely correct, victor, there will be a litmus test on on this. Do you believe, ben, this makes, after there is a vote to fund the government through december 11th i believe it is that will make a shutdown more likely in december . I dont think it will. And here is the main reason. Republicans understand that if you shut down the government, it hurts all republicans and the brand. I think what youre going to see is the republicans said im willing to get rid of the toxic leader john boehner over this because he doesnt lead on anything. I think actually with him stepping down, it will make it less likely that youll have a Government Shutdown and more likely that youll get some sort of consensus around the new speaker. The new speaker does not want to go to war in the same way that boehner has gone to war with many of the newer members of congress. Some would say tea party members, et cetera. I think if mccarthy comes in, if kevin walks in there, he knows that he has to repair some relationships that john boehner pretty much destroyed. I mean, some of his biggest enemies were within the gop caucus, not on the democratic side of the aisle. So if he is smart when he comes in, he is going to say, lets avert a Government Shutdown. I want to listen to what you have to say. Lets push some of your eyideasn here and fight for some of this stuff and hopefully that will be a new day. Thank you both. Thanks, victor. A woman arrested after her photo goes viral. Why police say her picture is sitting on a sea turtle is no joke. We are now in the final 12 1 2 hours of pope francis visit. This one now in philadelphia. On tap today, a prison visit, as well as a mass for an estimated Million People or more who are already lining up this morning as we speak. President obama is getting ready for a busy week in new york as the 70 session of the u. N. J General Assembly. His agenda includes a meeting with president putin and the relations has soured since the happenings in ukraine and crimea. Lets go to the u. N. With richard roth. Reporter there are thousands of meetings oneonone between different president s and prmime ministers. No doubt the heavyweight match jumatchup in new york between russia and the United States. Neither say we wanted the meeting but its they wanted the meeting who who stands to get more out of it. They may need each other since big gop issues ranging from syria elsewhere in the middle east and ukraine. The u. S. Officials say president obama will stress ukraine and moscow forces there, while the russians who have an interest, according to many analysts, being a bigger player on the world stage. Certainly iran has got to be a major topic this week at the u. N. As well. What are you hearing . Reporter thats right. Iran and the United States have already met for the First Time Since the big nuclear deal. John kerry, the secretary of state of the United States and he says there is still hope to work out issues in other areas despite what iran might say for now. We need to achieve peace and a way forward in syria, in yemen, and the region itself. I think there are opportunities this week and through these discussions to make some progress. Reporter iran is on opposite sides from the United States in places like yemen and in syria. By the way, the french bomb for the first time isis targets inside syria today. The Iranian Foreign minister saying things are best discussed at a bigger international forum. Meanwhile, the iran yepian president yesterday before the u. N. General assembly talked whether it could lead to progress, although he focused on environmental agreements. The process of that we took the past two years and also the attainment of the Nuclear Green light between iran and the p5 plus 1 a way for regional and international cooperation, including cooperation in the field of environment. Reporter president obama will also speak today at the u. N. Kind of a warmup act on various social goals ending poverty along with russias foreign minister. On on the phone with us is ian brimmer, a political scientist, and public of the arasia group. Ian, reportedly, there are some u. S. Administration officials who think that this meeting just having it is counterproductive. The sanctions were determined to be in place to isolate putin but this could bolster him. Is that a credible concern . Sure it is. But, of course, the isolation of putin failed from day one. There were not a single emerging market supported the isolation. The chinese ended up doing a lot of more business with putin after the u. S. Said we want to isolate them. Unlike iran and north korea, too big to isolate. The real issue after putin decided he was going to send troops, tanks and now fighter jets into expanded basis they have built up in syria, it really changed the state of play on the ground and the russians basically said, okay, we now want to talk to the americans because we need to deconflict any potential fighting going on. We dont want to attack each other and one wouldnt want that to happen. That then led to the secretary of state of defense from both countries talking to each other by phone. Kerry saying well, you know, there is nothing to be concerned about here. Immediately it looks like the russians are just engaged in selfdefense and fully trying to pave the way for this conversation between the two president. The white house isnt happy about it and we are not happy about it, but the russians managed to insert themselves more clearly into the situation. We will wait for a readout, at least some indication what was discussed during the meeting after it happens on monday. Lets talk about president ial plxs n politics now. Word from those who know Mike Bloomberg is seriously considering independent run, Michael Bloomberg is the former mayor of new york. How seriously . Pretty seriously. These are colleagues and friends of mine who have known bloomberg well. He has been talking about and sort of ive been in many conferences where he is asked directly, sort of please run, Mike Bloomberg. He kind of laughs it off and says its not really possible. Im a new york billionaire, look at me and this sort of thing. This is an Unusual Campaign and he apparently is tag the idea of an independent run much more seriously. It depends clearly on what looks like, in terms of the continued persistence of these nonestablishment candidates. Number one, would you end up getting trump, carson, or fiorina breaking through and getting the nomination on the republican side and does hillary implode actually on the democrat side . I think if those two things happen, i think a good chance you end up with another candidate. This counters his own wisdom from 2013. He said im 100 convinced that you cannot, in this country, win an election unless you are the nominee of one of the two major parties. Also said the second thing im convince of is that i could not get through the primary process with either party. I wonder two things here. Why the consideration to run now . And is the electorate, in your opinion, prepared for another selffunded billionaire who was once a democrat and a republican . I think he doesnt believe he can get through the primary process of a party. But the former is a little different. I think that no one expected and he certainly didnt expect in 2013 that youd be sitting here today with not only trump as a frontrunner, but with the three front runners on the republican side basically almost 50 , almost more than that all being outside candidates and with the possibility of hillary not not only not being the inevitable candidate but a lot of people talking maybe she will get excited as this email issue continues to move through the email skajcandal, email blowu. If that happened i dont think the country really wants another selffunded billionaire but, at the same time, its very clear the country really doesnt like the establishment parties and they dont like the establishment candidates. We have not seen in decades the level of people that do not affiliate or identify themselves with either the republican or the democratic party, the support for, quote unquote, independents is going up. Some of this is about the changing nature of the media and campaigns. Yeah. Some of it is just about how unsatisfied lots of people are with the system they see to be broken. Trump is a bit of a buffoon. I dont think he will get the nomination. They talk about the system is corruptly taken by money and these individual candidates can be bought, that resonates well with folks on both parties. He said he participated in for sometime. He and bremer. Ian brimmer, thank you for the insight. My pleasure. A new partnership in the war on terror this morning. Iraq, we have learned, now sharing information with russia and iran and syria. How will that affect the battle against the militants . Continuing coverage of pope francis visit to the u. S. We are now in the last almost 12 hours, final 12 hours of his visit as he wraps up his trip in philadelphia and we are talking about a teen who performed for the pontiff. Looki had the whitest smile. The french, for the first time ever, say they conducted air strikes on the terror group inside the wartorn country this morning. This news comes as iraq nous a new intelligence concerning agreement with russia and iran and syria in the battle against isis. Lieutenant general Rick Francona is joining us now. When we hear about the new intelligence sharing agreement between these countries, does that not confirm u. S. Suspicions that there has been some sort of cooperation between baghdad and moscow . Oh, i think there has been a lot of behind the scenes cooperation between the two. The russians and iraqis have a long history of cooperating with each other and this is russias attempt to make themselves relevant in the middle east again. For years, they have had trouble reestablishing themselves there. What we have seen the last several weeks, putin has done a massive job of capitalizing on what he regards as an american failure and moving that force into syria and setting up there cooperation sell with the iraqis. What does it mean for the u. S. Fight against isis if there is now this collaboration with these countries . Yeah. This is really going to be a problem for the Defense Department because now you have got the russians and ruiranians and syrians fighting against each other and make us the oddman out. I think its time for us to reassess what our First Priority is in syria is it isis or the removal of assad . I think we will find out its isis and we have to coordinate. You cannot have the air forces of this many countries operating in that small air space without talking to each other. So you just said that there is going to have to be a decision made. One or the other. Bashar al assad or isis. As a lieutenant cnn who has experience here, what do you think it should be . Well, i think the real politic is this we are going to have to focus on isis first and as john kerry says, maybe later on, we can come up with some sort of diplomatic process inside syria to deal with the assad government. But hes got too much support now for us to really make this work. We need to focus on isis. A report in the New York Times that there are some 250 americans that may have been trying to get to the middle east to fight for isis. How vulnerable do you think the u. S. Is right now at this point to some sort of attack here in our own country . Its really hard to assess because we dont really have a good handle on how many people have gone to the middle east, picked up all of this combat experience and training with explosives and come back. I think the bigger threat is the people that are in place in the United States who are reacting to the isis appeal to conduct some sort of lone wolf operation. This is a real daunting task for Law Enforcement. Lieutenant cnn Rick Francona, we always appreciate your insight. Good to be with you. The pope is finishing up his trip to the u. S. In a really big way. Mass for more than a Million People expected today. Now, a million, maybe 1. 5 million today. But look at the huge crowd last night. This is as the pope walked onto the stage. Tens of thousands turned out for a festival of families last night. Big performances. We will talk with a teenager who performed for the pope at the event. Every Auto Insurance policy has a number. There is your video showing some kids choir singing for the popes big night in philadelphia, this wasnt just a remarkable day for the 1 million plus people that packed in, what a special moment for these kids. They got to live a dream and perform on the brightly lit stage before a crowd of thousands and anna joins me now. She was one of the Smiling Faces there on the stage and youre still smiling today. Im not at all surprised, anna. Can you help us understand, since we werent there, give us a sense of what it was like on that stage. So crazy. It was just a rush. I was telling 6 abc last night, i had no words in my head. I was not thinking, i was just doing. Such a great in the moment experience. Did you have a pep talk . Im wondering what your conversations were with you and some of the other members in the choir there. Everyone was freaking out because after the perform pans of bobby hill, which is a member of the boy choir and when he gave this little rock to the pope, everyone was just ecstatic. We were bouncing off the walls this is going to happen, this is so crazy. I understand that you didnt get to meet the pope but bobby did. Did you talk to him about that . Did he say .
