November. Though you were beginning to see them sweat, at least a little bit. And then theres Bernie Sanders. He still insists he is the best candidate to take on trump and points to polls that say the same. We are all over the story this friday morning. We begin with cnn senior political reporter in washington this morning. You have to be recovering from quite a day in the capitol . Reporter a wild day on capitol hill yesterday. Republicans in the house and senate told me they were ready to move past the divisive primary and unite in defeating Hillary Clinton. What swayed concerns over donald trump, his promises he would hold key principles like taxes, and abortion, and lawmakers told me yesterday, donald trump spent a lot of time listening. I thought it was a great meeting. We had a, we discussed a lot of things. Reporter no endorsements but a more united front in the gop following thursdays critical meeting between Republican Leaders and their presumptive nominee. For the most part we agree on a lot of different items, and were getting there. I dont mind doing through a little bit of a slow process. Its a very big subject, and we have a lot of things. Reporter House Speaker paul ryan using the meeting as an opportunity to get better acquainted with trump before giving his full endorsement. This is the first very encouraging meeting. Again in 45 minutes you dont litigate all of the processes and issues and principles that we are talking about. Reporter rnc chairman Reince Priebus confident that the party can present a united front come this fall. Positive First Step Towards unifying our party. It was a great meeting and thats the only way it can be described. I think it had very Good Chemistry between the two of them. Reporter after the meeting i asked trumps former rival Kentucky Senate rand paul about the rest of the Party Falling in line. Parties usually work things out and get to unity. I think well get there. Reporter South Carolina senator Lindsay Graham among trumps most strident opponents back in november. You tell donald trump to go to hell. Reporter changing his tone, i had a cordial present conversation with trump. Now all eyes will be on the partys next steps and what endorsements from here will follow. From here well go deeper into the policy issues to see where that ground is and make sure were operating off the same core principles. Reporter one reason paul ryan withheld that endorsement, crafting an Election Year agenda the House Speaker does not want donald trump to trample all over. They will continue to talk about that. On news on the endorsement front, chris said earlier, the casino billionaire executive and a big donor announcing is a assigned not only the party unifying behind him, after complaining bitterly about special interest spending in the primary. The primary, the general. Two totally different words. Reporter right. Discuss implications of the meetings yesterday. Cnn politics executive eder joins us, mr. Mark preston and host of the David Gregory podcast the man himself, and Washington Bureau chief for the daily beast jackie kucinich. Your opportunity to do what you like most, telling me im wrong. I thought the meeting was, ah, puff aring it up a little bit. Nothing bigs coming out of it. Whats the reality . The reality, what happened yesterday is exactly what we expected to happen. They came out, said something nice. I think the most interesting thing that came out of it, and john and i were on when the statement came out that they put out a joint statement. Okay . They actually came to grips that they could actually put the same type of language on one piece of paper and issue it. Now, did we expect paul ryan to come out and endorse donald trump right away . No. Because thats not the way these things work, but i think over the next couple weeks we will see paul ryan endorse donald trump and starting to see more and more Establishment Republicans get behind trumps candidacy. I would suggest except for the word endorse he already did. If you say totally in to working together, share the same core principles, who cares if you use the e word. Paul ryan essentially said were in this together right now and that is all donald trump needs. Discuss . I have a slightly different view. Almost there with you but not all the way, becau there is this process they keep hanging out there. Its clear ryan is negotiating the terms of his influence. It thats very important to paul ryan. Its very important to other conservatives who have tried to impact and influence trump before and havent been able to do it. Ryan is in a unique position to get trump to sign on, to key elements of the gop agenda in the house and, therefore, for the country. Thats good for ryan. Its good for conservatives. Its good for ryans political future, and also his attempt to kind of dial back donald trump. Thats the thing i think hes trying to do, and i think, he believes, that hell get closer to there over the weeks of negotiation, because he knows hes got a standard bearer for the party who said himself hes flexible on some of these big issues. Jackie, what are you hearing what this was like behind the scenes and do you think this is going to last, this kum ba yah or will we acrimony in the future . Hes always described as genial, someone whos agreeable and someone who listens. His problem is, once he gets in front of the crowd, in front of maybe some supporters, then he sort of lets it rip, and so that sort of discipline is something that we havent seen yet from donald trump and well be watching for, because yesterday there was this sense of the republican establishment sort of talking themselves into trump, because what other option do they have . Well, listen, we knew that temperament would be an issue for paul ryan and even the adelson endorsement. Do i agree with everything no . The tone . No its unqualified. Move from there. The question, will we see a change in trump after this meeting after what was being discussed . Sean hannity discussing implicati implications. You judge. I thought it was a great meeting. We had a, we discussed a lot of things a lot of very important things and i thought it was really a very, very good meeting. I think paul felt the same way and everybody else did also. I dont mind going through a little slow process. A very big subject. We have a lot of things. For the most part we agree on a lot of different items and were getting there. Conciliatory, wanting to get along, that tone. Preston, what do you read . A couple things. What i think is lost on people is that donald trump got on his airplane and held these meetings on washington turf. A lot. Berman laughing like thats a big deal. It is a big deal for donald trump. The problem for republicans with trump is not so much where he is on the positions and trade and what have you. We know donald trump will flip like that. Pivot to where he needs to go to make things work. Its what jackie just said. When he gets in front of the crowd becomes unhinged and says things that could potentially be embarrassing to other candidates and people who endorsed him. I must say, donald trump is starting to look president ial. And what was said today in the Washington Post, raising the alarm when it comes to some of Donald Trumps language about muslims and how this may hurt how the u. S. Fights the war on terror. He says ive grown increasingly concerned about inflammatory political discourse that is far too common at home and abroad against muslims and islam saying the rhetoric ramifications could be harmful. Compounding the already grave terrorist danger to our citizens. David, what kind of effect does that have and also how do you see this, perhaps, impacting how donald trump is already tempering his rhetoric on this . This is a very different matter than were discussing. This is about how donald trump sees the world and the power vested in him as the commander in chief are and whether he would take the kind of temperamental or policy mistake that to get americans or other allies killed, and that is the Foreign Policy power of any president. I think that is a huge warning flag, especially from someone like general petraeus who has kind of support on both sides of the aisle that should be paid attention to, and i think it is interesting to watch to see how trump allows himself to become a student of Foreign Policy or even moderate his views. Thats not just on Foreign Policy. Also domestic. The key thing to keep in mind here is that donald trump wants to win the room hes in. He has won the room of the Republican Party in these nominating primaries and caucuses. He is now the presumptive nominee. I do believe he wants to win the establishment in washington to be able to get things done here, and i dont think he worries that hes going to be seen as some kind of sellout to the establishment among his supporters, because part of his appeal is, look, im going to get things done. And thats what republicans and democrats want. Based on yesterday, he did seem to win them. But lets see if how do you walk back from that . Thats the thing. The right question. If youve pivoted toward him, you cant quite pivot away. Can you . On Something Like this issue specifically. Same dynamic. You move back off what was very inflammatory, aggressive with muslims now backing off . What will be the price for that change . We will see. We will discuss. That was the segue. Thank you. Well see. David, jackie, mark. Thank you so much. Got to thank them. Never thank them. On the democratic side Bernie Sanders is refoousing to concede anything this after his Campaign Manager warned of a disaster if Hillary Clinton secures the nomination. Cnn chris frates has the latest for us this morning from washington. Tell us about this, chris. Theres certainly some acrimony on the democratic side . Reporter still ak kra mo acrimony indeed. Stopping at Mount Rushmore and firing up the faithful with reasons to believe he can still beat Hillary Clinton. Its mathematically impossible for sand toers win enough delegates in the remains contests to clinch the nomination. Sanders is arguing he could still win more pledged delegates than clinton after the primaries next month. He has to win 67 of the pledged delegate to beat clinton by one delegate and even then, sanders needs super dell guilt. The party big shots who also get a vote at the convention, need them to flip support from clinton to sanders to win, that is very, very unlikely. Sanders says hes still the candidate best positioned to take on and beat donald trump, but when pressed yesterday, he acknowledged that clinton could also defeat the presumptive gop nominee. I am not here to say that Hillary Clinton cant defeat donald trump. I absolutely believe that she can, but i believe quite honestly that Bernie Sanders is the stronger candidate. Now, clinton has maintained a lower profile than sanders, her own event yesterday a meeting with aids activists at her brooklyn headquarters and no kwes scheduled events today. A second website says it is pulling the plug on George Zimmermans attempt to sell the handgun he used to kill Trayvon Martin back in 2012, hours after the first listing was pulled from another site. Our mission, esteem the Second Amendment and provide a second and safe platform for law i biding citizens. Our association with mr. Zimmerman does not help us achieve that objective. Despite that statement, zimmermans auction page is still on the website. Next hour we will get reaction from benjamin crump, the attorney for Trayvon Martins family. Youve spoken to George Zimmerman. A unique insight into what makes this guy tick. This is something from the outside that benefits nobody. Right . I would argue not even zimmerman, but to understand as we were talking about yesterday, why would he do Something Like this . He sees himself as a victim, and somehow that in this mind its become a righteous cause for him, that somehow by throwing this in the face of people hes somehow justifying that what he did all along was okay. And now hes seeing what happens when he does something interesting. Not many signing up to that cause. Nope. Bernie sanders not budges, vowing to stay in the race. He says hes fighting for the soul of the Democratic Party. What does this mean for Hillary Clinton . How does she handle this as donald trump started to handle her . Thats next. So weve got donald trump getting his party together. Got a very different dynamic on the democratic side. You have Bernie Sanders saying his campaign for president is not over. Its about winning, and it is a movement, a revolution. Now he says he is fighting for the very soul of the Democratic Party. Lets talk about the implications of sanders and what the path is forward for that party. Bringing the panel back. Mark preston, David Gregory, jackie kucinich. Mr. Preston, let me play you a piece of sound from Bernie Sanders talking about super dell guilt. Do we have that or should i read it . Can you read it . Ooh. I say to those super delegates in the states where we won landslide victories,s listen to the people of your state. [ cheers ] now what is his point . His point is, ive won bigger percentages than that percentage of super delegates from the states that i have received. How compelling will this be to the types of people who are super delegates . Ah, its falling on deaf ears. Super delegates supporting Hillary Clinton will stay with Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders is at an interesting point in his career. Somebody who always thought of himself, and frankly was outside the democratic establishment, even though he lined himself politically inside, however, he harnished this political revolution. The question, will he take it a step too far where his desire to retain control and have influence at this time in the campaign, could that hurt Hillary Clinton in november, or does he become a team player and take this movement in a different direction . Bill clinton weighed in on this idea of unifying the Democratic Party. Heres what he said in kentucky yesterday. She needs to go into that convention not just with the popular vote lead, not just with the delegate lead, with the wind at her back so we can unify our party and make this case to the American People. Theyre going to have to decide whether theyre going to take a ride to the future were all a part of, or whether were going to try 20 go back to the past and make the best deal with whatever going on. So jackie, you listen to bill clinton making this case. It seems like everyones case is sort of falling on deaf ears, i guess, but do you think this is something that how many people sort of are behind this idea where bill clinton says there has to be a unification . Especially when Hillary Clinton took this into june eight years ago . I dont think the Bernie Sanders people are listening at this point. Because, you know, you have seen this over and over again. Bernie sanders saying why doesnt she join our campaign . There is this sort of there isnt a willingness and he has no reason. Talk about it before. He has no reason to go anywhere now. Hes still fundraising, still drawing huge crowds and, you know, youve seen Hillary Clinton start to move left on issues like the fed. Youve seen her start to pick up pieces of Bernie Sanders platform. So even if this is just ends up being a movement, Bernie Sanders has been very successful pushing Hillary Clinton left she didnt necessarily want to go if he hadnt been in this campaign. You have to deal with Bernie Sanders on one side, Hillary Clinton does, and then hearing from clinton people maybe not inside the campaign but connected to the campaign as far as donald trump goes, be afraid. Be very, very afraid. Jay carson, a spokesperson for Hillary Clinton in 2008, he put a post on instagram, eyebrow raising. Heres the bad news, he said, this guy, meaning donald trump, this guy can win the general election pretty damn easily. Goes on to say i hear liberal friends calling him a joke, its in the bag. Nuts because he has a path to victory. Calling him the npr crowd, always thought george w. Bush was a joke and george w. Bush ended up beating him twice. Youre hearing this and taking donald trump very, very seriously. Its interesting, john. Connect what you just read from jay carson to what brianna read earlier from general petraeus. Someone who said Hillary Clinton would be an excellent president. The fear factor about trump. Trump is the best thing Hillary Clinton has as an argument to sanders supporters about this race which is, dont get complacent, theres a very real danger of trump being president and trump being president is dangerous and, therefore, youve got to come over to my side. That may be the bridge to the sanders supporters who, you know, sanders is right. He may be fighting for the soul of the party. The truth is, the soul of the Democratic Party, most democrats are with Hillary Clinton but hes making an argument that the soul should be more progressive in the Democratic Party and hes going to keep up that independent movement. Again, the argument here is, you maybelieve all that, and Hillary Clinton can tack to the left but you have to be afraid of trump. You have to organs trump. You cant sit this one out, even if you dont love her. How about this theory . Feel free to shoot it down, preston, the rest of you, everybody. Taxes, put out your taxes. Hillarys sideways on that. Goes to transparency . What about your speeches . What about whats going on with email . Not a real strong suit. What trump just did with the muslim suggestion, calling it a suggestion now. Could this be an opportunity for her, because im hearing from her people, man, if she said Something Like this, if she backed off and said we shouldnt let muslims into the country, well, just a suggestion, youd crush her for weeks and i wonder if they were teeing up were going to come at him. This isnt just about what you say, its an ideal, what you believe. Do you think thats an opportunity . Everything is a opportunity, no question. Look what happened when donald trump had his butler, or his former butler the other day say really horrific things about president barack obama. That was an opportunity for trump haters to tie trump to a gentleman who says awful things. Right . Worked for him 30 years, but hasnt since 2009. Correct, correct. But, again everything is an opportunity. I suggest, though, flip it on the other side, if im a republican, i like the idea that donald trump is willing to flip on a bunch of issues. A lot of issues they need him to film on. The muslim issue just one of them s. That an issue or mentality . Deeper than how i feel about taxes going um or down . Chris, i think youre right. Its a temperamental thing. You dont just shoot from the hip or lip and say well ban all muslims until we get this under control when there is an existing Security Apparatus about how refugees come into the country. All fun and games until he flips back. Hes shown hell go one way and then the other. Republicans in washington will need a spread sheet to figure where trump is on any given day, because he hasnt really shown hes willing to stick to a lot of things. Donald trump continues to slam Hillary Clinton on har handling of the benghazi attack pap controversy over her email server, her high unfavorable poll numbers. These are obvious attack points as we head into the general. So what is the substance there . What is the right thing for you to be focusing on . Lets get someone who has unique perspective on the subject. Leon panetta. Former secretary of defense, defector of the Central Intelligence agency and, of course, chief of staff to president bill clinton. Hes currently senior counselor at beacon global strategies, and he has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. Mr. Secretary, thank you for being with us. Nice to be here t. Is certainly a pleasure to have you here. These questions around the email server. Do you believe these are disqualifying questions . Obviously not. You endorsed Hillary Clinton, but do you think she can get past them . I do. I think that this election is not going to be decided on that issue. I think there are a lot of, a lot bigger issues for the country to focus on, but, you know, shes admitted the mistakes shemistak mistakes she made there. I dont see substance to the charges because i think what was classified now was not then. So i think its going to be tough to bring a prosecution, but i think we ought to let the fbi do their investigation and Hillary Clinton has said shes willing to cooperate in any way possible and thats what ought to happen here to resolve that issue. Benghazi. Where does the issue begin and end with you . Anytime you lose an ambassador and the others that were lost there, it was a terrible tragedy, and there are lessons to be learned, but the reality is, that a number of investigations have been conducted on to that issue by committees in the congress, by bipartisan committees, bike y a Bipartisan Commission that looked at it and they all determined that an event took place that nobody was made aware that that attack was going to take place and that every effort was made to try to rescue those individuals. Just didnt happen. Thats a tragedy and we have to learn from those lessons. The secretary of state, then Hillary Clinton, there are two ways to look at her record. The one is, that shes presenting it. That ive been there. I know what the decisions are. Some things i may have differently but was in line. The other, what donald trump and many republicans have been espousing, this is a nightmare. Everything is worse now than it was. How do you defend it . This is a dangerous world. Were living in. The result of isis. A result of the threats coming from iran. North korea. Russia. China, and all of the efforts of the president and the secretary had been aimed at trying to take on those challenges. The fact is, we took on al qaeda and terrorism and disseminated their leadership. We took on the threats in the world, and, you know, some youre successful at. Some youre not successful at, but the real challenge is to provide world leadership, and thats the difference between secretary clinton and trump. I mean, trump is talking about the world in a way that takes us back to the 1930s. I mean, hes talking almost isolationism, america first. Hes talking about distributing abombs around the world. But you know People Better crazy positions. You know People Better. Ive known you my whole life. You know people as well as you know anything that youve done and you know people are responding to what hes tapping into about their fear. Absolutely. We can be attacked at home. Isis seems to get stronger by the second. Everything that we seem to have done is counterproductive. Nato seems to have become a toy for putin who seems to ignore the United States might and trump says hes strong, and clintons been the one who was there as everything went wrong. How do you beat that case . The reality is that what we have to look at now is whos going to be the next president of the United States . And there are two tests that president s going to fix. Number one, break the gridlock in washington and to govern. You get some things done because there is a lot of anger and frustration about the failure to do that, and the second thing, provide world leadership in a very troubled world. Somebody who understands the world, who understands the threats in the world, and is prepared to deal with that. Hillary clinton has that experience, and that capability, and trump does not. You want to take a gamble . With the future . I dont want to dot th that, fo kids, for their kids, i dont want to take that gamble. Politics aside. What is your concern with donald trump as president . Im not sure what he stands for. Im not sure what his positions are. He takes one position one day. He takes another position the next day. He takes positions on, you know, immigration and building a wall, on getting rid of 11 million immigrants. He talks about distributing atomic weapons so that its okay if japan gets atomic weapons, if korea gets atomic weapons. He says these things almost as if hes not even thinking, and then, you know, the next day he kind of changes his position to try to soften some of the things he says. So if he puts good people around him, thats not a fix . Politicians vacillate. Why we need guys like you. I think the challenge is whether he is able to have smart, good people around him that hes willing to listen to, or is this somebody who is going to do his own thing, no matter who the hells around him. Thats the question. Leon panetta, you know what happens in the white house. You know what happens in the world. Thank you for making the case on new day. Thanks, chris. Pleasure to see you. Look, social media is everything and weve seen ways it can be very positive for candidates and their ability to manipulate a conversation. They can sort of put something out there, put out a statement and, of course, the press goes running after it. Of course, on social media, theres not a chance to ask followup questions. However, by the same token, social media can be quite damaging to a campaign. So many surround the campaign. So many aides and sort of associates, and, look, social media gives everyone a platform. You, i and everyone in our industry knows how tempting it can be to sort of say things on social media that would never make it past an editor or producer. By the same token, people who are close to these president ial candidates whose shot at the white house sometimes can hinge on Something Like this and they feel like they can go out and speak their mind or say whatever they want in forms, posts, on twitter or facebook, and that can get a candidate in real trouble. You know, it could be dangerous, when out of control, but useful, bill, when fully used in control . Right . Bill, we have all read tweets from one candidate or another or a campaign or another onair as they come in, because its a very quick way to communicate with the world and in some ways not that different than an email blast we would have received from a campaign 15 years ago, or a fax we would have received 20 years ago or actual piece of paper 25 years ago. Well, its way quicker. More to the point and it seems like on an awful lot of social media now theres a bubbling hostility that, you know, can be transferred. I think obviously trump has been very effective, very piffy, punchy with his language and now you see Elizabeth Warren coming back at him. What is its setting up a negative Campaign Like weve nerve every seen before. I think there is going to be negativity flying back and forth on social media way more so than weve seen socalled negative ads on television. Interesting, bill, you bring up this back and forth with Elizabeth Warren. Let me read you tweets about Elizabeth Warren. Up to goofy Elizabeth Warren wed have no jobs in the United States. Warn, cant talk about minimum wage, spend all day belching insults. Pathetic. Really pathetic. I dont think these two have ever met. Right . No. This is a political debate takes place, again, not on earth. I dont everybody aen know if second life is still a thing, but almost happening on this completely other reality, but does it cross over, you know into real life campaigning and when does it start to effect votes, bill . I think it does cross over now already, because its being amplified by other media. Theyre not just talking to each other. Everything is being covered by the mass media, the wider media. So its ample pla pified. They dont have to be in the same year, can be very effective talking back and forth this way throwing punches essentially through the internet. Dylan, whos go ahead, dylan. I was going to say, bill is making a great point. This conversation if it were solely taking place on twitter one thing. The point is, where much of the national immediate yo goes to get its new because, of course, where the candidates are. Then, of course, were talking about it on cnn or on the pages of the New York Times or across the internet, but one other point here we havent brought up yet. Thats the ephemeral nature or seemingly ephemeral nature of twitter and of social media. Thats why it can be so tempting to say the sorts of things would you have never said in a press release or in a, you know, an email newsletter that goes out. Taken a lot more time to edit, think about the statements. When on twitter, on facebook, you fire off all sorts of things you wouldnt have done had you taken time before hitting the send button. Right. Increased the temp, much more volatile across the board. In cyber space and the real world as well. Who knows what effects that will have on this Campaign Going forward. Great to have you both with us. What is your take . Tweet us. How ironic. You can send us an newday or post your comment on facebook. Com newday. We are following al ing a l news including the republican fight for unity. It takes a little time pup dote put it together in 45 minutes. I dont mind going through a slow process. Its very important we dont fake unifying. There was a whole lot of agreement on most issues. The alternative is for more years just like the last eight. Thats going to be enough to unify republicans across the country. Donald trump will not become president. The choice in this campaign could not be clearer. I believe that Bernie Sanders is the stronger candidate. We will have a big victory that will take us all the way to the white house [ cheers ] George Zimmerman to sell the wep than he used to kill Trayvon Martin. I pledge i would not let my son die in vain. Im a free american. I can do what id like [ chanting ] announcer this is new day with chris cuomo and alisyn camerota. Good morning. Welcome to your new day. It is friday the 13th, but only good feelings coming from the gop after Donald Trump Party leaders celebrate progress and a touch of unity after these highstakes, highpower summit meetings between trump, House Speaker paul ryan and rnc chair Reince Priebus. Trump and rhine saying they are totally committed to working together. No endorsement yet from ryan, but trump did pick up a major republican donor. Meantime, Congressional Democrats are hoping to tie trump to the republican establishment believing that this will help them and likely democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in november, but Bernie Sanders insists he would make a stronger nominee. We have the story covered only the way that cnn can, and we begin with senior political reporter manu from washington. Reporter good morning. Donald trump may not be the Party Establishments preferred candidate but Party Leaders know they full well have to put the backing of the Party Machinery behind him if they want any chance to defeat Hillary Clinton in the fall. Yesterday donald trump spent a lot of time listening to gop concerns over everything from immigration to judges to abortion. As one senator told me, they actually liked him. I thought it was a great meeting. We had a, discussed a lot of things. Reporter no endorsements but a more united front in the gop following thursdays critical meeting between Republican Leaders and their presumptive nominee. For the most part we agree on a lot of different items, and were getting there. I dont mind going through a little bit of a slow process. Its a very big subject. And we have a lot of things. Reporter House Speaker paul ryan using the meeting as an opportunity to get better acquainted with trump before giving his full endorsement rnts this is the first very encouraging meeting, but again in 45 minutes you dont litigate off the processes and all of the issues and the principalings that we are talking about. Reporter rnc chairman Reince Priebus, confident that the party can present a united front come this fall. Positive First Step Towards unifying our party. It was a great meeting and thats the only way it can be described. I think it had very Good Chemistry between the two of them. Reporter after the meeting i asked trumps former rival kentucky senator rand paul about the rest of the Party Falling in line. Parties usually work things out and get to unity. I think were get there. Reporter South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham among trumps striving critics saying this back in december. You know how you make America Great again . Tell donald trump to go to hell. Reporter changing his tone, graham said in a statement, i had a cordial, plent phone conversation with trump. I congratulated him on winning the republican nomination for president. Now awe eyes will be on the partys next steps and what endorsements, in any, will follow. From here deeper into the policy areas to see where the Common Ground is and how we can make sure were operating off these same core principles. Reporter were still waiting for that it fullthroated paul ryan endorsement because House Republicans are crafting an Election Year that they dont want donald trump to undermine. Theyll continue to talk about that before making his back official and later theyll meet on capitol hill with rank and file House Republicans trying to rangel mowrangle more endorsemes and sheldon adelman, billionaire and influential donor, a sign big money to play a big role for donald trump this fall. Thank you very much. Talk about the implications of gop, and what is going on after these meetings. We have chief strategist and Communications Director for the rnc, mr. Spicer. How big a deal . A great, positive step forward knop question a lot of elbows were thrown during our primary process. This idea of the party coming together and uniting is a crucial piece of us winning back the white house in november and yesterday was a up who, positive step, not just for paul ryan. You saw the Lindsey Graham, everybody moving in the right direction. The quicker that happens the quicker we pivot to the general election and defeating Hillary Clinton. How much is about unifying what and how. How, i mean positions. Where are you on this trade . How do you really feel about tpp versus how you talk . How you talk about these issues, how trump uses the pulpit . A balance. For some about policy. For some its about tone. But in both cases the problems being solved and i think you saw mr. Trump address both issues particularly with paul ryan and some in the senate leadership. It does 34area youre looking f agreement on. Both of heading towards unification. I remember when trump first started talking about the muslims and many in the party were dealing with him on an individual basis. There wa 150 people in there. Still, this guy not paul ryan. Not very specific but his point, so determinened and serious that people not see the Republican Party as being a reflection of those comments. How important was that in that meeting yesterday . Well, again, i think very important for both reasons. Speaker ryan is somebody who cares to his core about the Republican Party. He wants it to be welcoming. He believes in solutions and policy ideas that will move america forward. Thats just not talk to him. You spend two minutes with paul ryan and you realize how much he cares about the direction of this country and solving americas problems. They talk about him being a policy wonk. He is. He really wants solutions that will take American Families and businesses and individuals and make them betters so he wanted to talk to donald trump man to man for a period of time beyond a quick, you know, fiveminute phone call and get to know him, talk where he stood on those issues and i think as you heard from him, he came away vy satisfied with what he heard. They are said to be very different men. You said they had good comestry. Explain that to me in man terms, spicer . The only communication you have, one person talking back through an interview to another. I heard you say this and i heard you say that. Sitting down, looking at someone across the table, eye to eye, having a conversation saying i believe in this. What do you think about it . I heard you say that. Can you explain this . Thats crucial frankly to any relationship. For them to sit down for an extended period of time with chairman priebus brokering this says speaker ryan wanted to know what you feel about this, do you share the commitment to this following policy . I think its important not just to that relationship but as you know, whether a married couple or a business partnership, having that person to person contact i think is crucial to developing the level of trust to go forward in a relationship. So youve got the men and then you have the message. I am going to go back to the muslim thing, because i think that weve seen a shift in trump on it, and by think, i mean i know. Hes saying different things. Lets play before and now. Donald j. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of muslims entering the United States until our country representatives can figure out what the hell is going on. We have a serious problem. Its a temporary ban, it hasnt been called for yet. Nobodys done it. This is just a suggestion, until we find out whats going on. Now, the temporary part obviously is a change. The only point is, why is he changing . Do you see this as a move by donald trump to try to accommodate the voices in the Republican Party who are saying, we dont ban religions here. All ill say is, because i havent spoken to mr. Trump about this i dont know. But, look, i think that this is a guy who speaks from the heart. He knows what he wants to say, and right now hes under a microscope and every word he uses or doesnt use, people are dissecting saying this is a shift, this is that. Look, he understands weve shifted into a general election to audience, and what previously had just been the republican primary base was a, was a specific group, and now weve got to reach out, be more welcoming, talk to a more Diverse Group of people, not just people but state playing in the general election than ever before. If i said this to you about Hillary Clinton, women, thats where she was when developing her base, but now moved off how she feels about entire faith because pivoting into the general, you would beat me over the head with every verbal assault. Hillary clinton has been doing this 20 years. Shell say whatever it takes and the shifts because she has a set of rules for herself and a set for everybody else. Theres a reason not just republicans but independents and democrats dont trust Hillary Clinton. They believe shes not someone that shares their values, its because Hillary Clinton spent 20 years being a chameleon. How does that change your feelings in a week . You look at somebody and can tell what they are. Hillary clinton has didnt clating and manipulative and changing since day one. Donald trump is new to the process, people say this isnt a politician gone from election to election trying to fig kwhaerur to say to a different election. Speaks from the heart. Talks about what he believes. Theres a big difference. You can tell what they mean by how they say it. Hillary clinton has never meant anything at her core. Says whatever has to get said for the room shes in at the time and will shift depending what the next poll says. You dont think seeing this shift here this is going to play writ large Going Forward . I think everybody is reading, like i said, looking at im not saying its a bad thing he shifted, by the way. I get that. Its bigger than tax policies. And an area speaker ryan and chairman priebus talked to him about. Going on with mr. Trump, people looking at him, took three steps before, now two steps. Trying to figure what every shift is. The difference, new to politics, never run for office before. A businessman, successful, talking about this and everybody is trying to dissect this. Hillary clinton says whatever she needs to say in the room at the time. And a difference. The reason people built up a lack of trust and perception she doesnt believe she cares about them because shes had a pattern of activity. The server herself, now youve seen this in the last week, they have continued to evade federal prosecutors. Talks about not being under investigation and the head of the fbi saying she is under investigation. Despite every fact in front of her will say whatever she needs to say. You know what you sound, mr. Spicer . Unified . Thats right. Thank you for being with us. Positive, unified and totally committed. You left out some words there. Turning to the democrats. Unity an issue for that party. Bernie sanders not going down without a fight, says he is fighting for the soul of his party. His Campaign Manager is warning a clinton coronation could now spell a trump triumph in november. Cnns chris frates has the latest from washington. Good morning, chris. Reporter hey, good morning, mr. Berman. Tell you, Bernie Sanders took his long shot campaign to south dakota, even stopping at Mount Rushmore yesterday firing up the faithful with reasons to believe that he can still beat Hillary Clinton. Its mathematically impossible for sanders to win enough delegates in the remaining contests to clinch that nomination. So sanders is now arguing that he could still win more pledged delegates than clinton, when the primaries end next month, but even thats a pretty high bar. Sanders would need to win 67 of the remaining pledged delegates to beat clinton by just one delegate, and even then, sanders would need the super delegates. Those are the big shots who also get a vote at the convention. He would need them to flip support from clinton to sanders in order to win nap is very, very unlikely. Now, sanders says hes still the candidate best positioned to take on and beat donald trump, but when pressed yesterday, he acknowledged that clinton also could defeat the presumptive gop nominee. I am not here to say that Hillary Clinton cant defeat donald trump. I absolutely believe that she can. But i believe quite honestly that Bernie Sanders is the stronger candidate. Reporter now, clinton maintain add lower profile than sanders the last few days. Her only event yet, a meeting with aids activists add her brooklyn headquarters and no scheduled visits today. Sanders, going very remote the last couple days. Chris frates, thank you so much. Reporter you betcha. Breaking news overnight. The Obama Administration telling each and every Public School district in america what to do concerning transgender students and access to school bathrooms. Cnns senior washington correspondent joe johns with more on this. Joe . Reporter good morning, brianna. The Justice Department and Education Department coming together to give guidance in the form of letters to schools on how to apply title ix, the federal law protecting equal rights and education to transgender students. Including how it applies to bathrooms and locker rooms. These letters are going out to schools that receive federal funding. The bottom line is that schools cant discriminate against transjender students but they can do additional measures to protect them. The letter says, schools are supposed to respond to harassment and the treat the students according to their chosen gender identity. It allow, doesnt mandate, but allows schools to provide additional privacy options for students according to the guidelines. Though students are not required to use shared bathrooms or changing rooms, if other options are available. It also allows these students to participate in socalled gender segregated activities and facilities, and, again, the schools can take steps to protect privacy. This letter is not supposed to have the force of law. Its more of an interpretation of law but at a time when the federal government and the state of North Carolina have filed duelling lawsuits over related matters. One more sign the administration is hitting this hard as a civil rights issue. Back to you. Far from over, though. Joe johns, thank you very much. Well, Hillary Clinton is so close to the democratic nomination, she can practically taste it, but Bernie Sanders refusing to give in, telling supporters that a clinton nomination would be a disaster, would Court Disaster and saying hes fighting for the soul of the Democratic Party. Lets discuss now with brad woodhouse, a Hillary Clinton supporter, and also former Communications Director for the dnc. Okay. So, brad, as you see this, what do you think the dangers are of Bernie Sanders either staying in this race or continuing to hit Hillary Clinton in the way that weve been seeing him criticize her at this point . Well, look, brianna, i think Bernie Sanders, and weve always said, Bernie Sanders should stay in this race. He should stay in it, through it, if thats what he wraunts to do. No ones asked him to get out. He should stay through the remaining caucuses and primaries. On the other side, the type of rhetoric out of his campaign we saw yesterday and what he said and what his Campaign Said about her nomination being a disaster is really beyond the pale. What weve seen is that donald trump is taking Bernie Sanders words, literally quoting him on the campaign trail saying, Bernie Sanders said, x. Bernie sanders said, y. And, you know, i dont think Bernie Sanders wants to be the subject of republican attacks against Hillary Clinton. I dont think he wants to be used in Television Ads in the fall against Hillary Clinton. So i think he should do what Hillary Clinton is doing. For the last several weeks Hillary Clinton hasnt engaged with Bernie Sanders or attacked Bernie Sanders. Shes turned her attention to contrasting her view of america with Donald Trumps view of america, and thats exactly what we would hope Bernie Sanders would do rather than attacking Hillary Clinton. Now, the Sanders Campaign would say, that is not exactly a representation of what jeff weavers fundraising would say. Bernie sanders is not saying Hillary Clinton cannot beat donald trump but he thinks hes a stronger candidate and looking at poll numbers matching up Hillary Clinton against donald trump like, florida, pennsylvania, if you look at clinton it shows narrow in florida, very narrow in pennsylvania and then when you go ahead and look how Bernie Sanders is doing versus trump, its still narrow in florida, but doing better and much better in pennsylvania. Youre looking at those numbers as well. How do you respond to that, when Bernie Sanders at every stump speech saying, look, i do better against donald trump than Hillary Clinton does . Brianna, i think its ridiculous. I think its a joke. I think it makes no sense whatsoever. There has not been one penny of negative advertising run against Bernie Sanders. I dont think in the history of modern president ial politics anyone has had it easier in a president ial primary than Bernie Sanders has. Hillary clinton hasnt rahn negative ad against him. He hasnt been the subject of negative ads fro the republican side. Shes been getting it from all sides. I think if his entire record and all positions hes ever taken in his entire life were subject to the type of attacks that Hillary Clinton has been under, i dont think he could ever sustain those numbers. I dont you know, so hes not been vetted in the same way that Hillary Clinton has been vetted. He has not been attacked or the subject scrutiny wait. Hes been criticized by the candidate herself pshgs a onemessage candidate she called him. Said he was unprepared. Its not as if her campaign hasnt taken shots at Bernie Sanders in this case. Do you think well sorry. Go on . Go ahead. Im just go ahead. Do you think that there is, perhaps, a positive of him being in this and that he can illuminate some of her faults maybe she needs to deal with going into the general election . Well, look, i think theres a positive in terms of hes brought an important voice, brought up important issues, hes obviously brought a lot of energy to this race, and i think what now we need to do is what the republicans are so far failing to do on their side is, we need to unify our party. The most dangerous threat to america right now is the prospect that donald trump could be the next commander in chief. That he could appoint a Supreme Court justice that would agree we should ban all muslims, that we should criminalize abortion, throw women in jail for having reproductive rights, and so, you know, what i think we need to do is unify on the democratic side. He should stay in the race, talk about the issues that he cares about, but right now his criticisms are Hillary Clinton given the fact that hes mathematically eliminated from capturing the nomination, in the remaining contests, are just playing in to the hands of donald trump. And lets look at the math for the pledged delegates, because we have it here, and what it would show, not just pledged delegates, bull ought delegates and super delegates. You see Hillary Clinton is leading there. And in percentages, she needs 16 of the remaining delegates at stake to win the nomination. He needs 102 . Now, thats overall. He would need about 67 of remaining pledged delegates to catch up to her pledged delegates count, but how do you make the case he needs to lay back and not be in it to win it when Hillary Clinton had the math against her eight years ago and was leveling serious critiques against then senator obama . It wasnt like she was tapping the brakes . Look at 2008, the math was far different. It was still it was still she was basically eliminated at a certain point and still was continuing her attacks. Well, the race was the race was much, was much closer. I mean, he is, as you said, mathematically eliminated from capturing the nomination. Look, theres also a difference here, brianna good going out talking about policy differences. His campaign send out an email yesterday saying her nomination would be a disaster. I mean that is playing in to dntdn Donald Trumps hands. Contrasting plans for college or plans for health care and i dont think its productive as we go forward, but by all means Bernie Sanders should stay in the race, talk about issues, but shes turch turned her attention on donald trump. I think Bernie Sanders recognizes donald trump is a threat to the future of the United States if he became commander in chief. He should spend at least some of his time talking about that threat and not just playing into Donald Trumps hands by attacking Hillary Clinton. And we will be talking to Bernie SandersCampaign Manager ahead, jeff weaver as well. Brad woodhouse, thank you so much. We appreciate you being with us. Thank you. Donald trump taking a break from the campaign after what he call add great day in washington, planting seeds of unification in this meeting with paul ryan and unleashing a Charm Offensive on the rest of the republican congressional leadership. So whos Republican Party is this . Joining us now, david fromme, Senior Editor and cnn political commentator and republican consultant, ana. The answer . Whos party is it right now . Ah pick a name. Take a number. Look, i think its very hard right now to label the Republican Party. There is more than one Republican Party and we are all seeing play out in public this wrestling for the definition of the Republican Party for the soul of the Republican Party, to who leads the Republican Party, for what the value it stands for are. I dont think there is now one answer. We are going through growing pains and it is obvious. David, donald trump went to washington. Who gave more yesterday . Donald trump or paul ryan . The Republican Leadership is giving more. As obviously they must. They have a very ugly choice. They ith irbreak with the almost certain nominee of their party, and that has tremendous effects all wait down the ballot. Effects for congressional race, effects on fundraising, but, so they can break with him, or they can submit to him. But as weve seen through this race, when you submit to donald trump, you do so on his terms, and if you even if you have what you think is a deal it has a funny way of becoming up stuck later. A tremendous need to assert his own d dominance over the the people around him. Ci about that with chris christie. People like paul ryan, shrewd players, know whats coming. At what cost, though, to paul ryan now and the Republican Party who in your words are in the process of submitting to donald trump . At what cost to them . Costs up to november and costs after. If donald trump does not win in november and right now that looks unlikely, he doesnt go away and the record of this campaign doesnt go away. Republicans who choose to work with him will end up bearing the consequences of working with him for a long im after november 16th. I disagree with my friend. I think paul ryan is a shrewd player. Submitting to donald trump would have been to do what some did. Roll over, play dead right after the day he was declared the presumptive nominee. Paul ryan is Still Holding out, and if he can get trump to moderate his tone on anything, if he can get trump to have consistency and values, get trump to be a better candidate, more consistent with conservative values, its going to be better for the brand, and the going to be better for protecting some of paul ryans congressional constituents. Is he really holding out, though . You know, david, is he really holding out . He says he has total unity with donald trump, committed to the same core values. He said they will Work Together to win in the fall. He didnt say hes endorse. I suppose holding out the e word but not much else . What happened yesterday was the meeting before the meeting. As you and ana have said, the ultimate meeting has not happened and may not until they go to convention. But ryan is to chair the convention and at the convention he will be the person who will rule on any challenges to Donald Trumps authority there. If there are challenges on the platform committee, challenges to the credentialing of delegates. Other delegates, the ones in california, turn out with unfortunate backgrounds and a motion to do something about that. All of those will be paul ryans decisions as chairman at the convention and will have to work hand in hand with donald trump. The nominee, most probably. And a decent human being, paul ryan, hes a principle conservative working in the trenches since he was a teenager. I think what he wants is to get donald trump to be more to where he is, and hes doing it with a spoonful of sugar, not vinegar. It is paul ryans way. Remember when he wanted to be speaker, one of the things he did, meet with the freedom caucus, for example, such a thorn in the side of john boehner. Paul ryan is a conciliatory figure within the party, but that doesnt mean he bends his principles. I think hes leaving the door open. If we continue to see from donald trump, you know, offensive comments, incendiary, controversial remarks, fourletter words and all sorts of other things i think you dont get an endorsement from paul ryan. I think he would like to get there, paul ryan, but i think its up to donald trump. Maybe not willing to dend principles but willing to ignore principles . Sake social security. If paul ryan cares about one thing, entitlements. Wants to change entitlements. Hes made it clear. Donald trump has been crystal clear, i will not change social security. Theres not a middle ground there. I actually think, you know, ive said this from the beginning. Its less about policy and ideology than it is about principles and values and tone and the kind of campaign that he leads. Paul ryan was mitt romneys Vice President. They didnt agree on issues like immigration. Paul ryan had to answer over and over again about their disagreements and schism there was between the two positions. He can bridge that gap. I just think the gap he cant bridge is to have a nominee, a standard bearer for the party who can be as offensive as donald trump has been the last ten months. He said yesterday he was impressed with donald trump. Along those lines, Lindsey Graham, who could not have said more challenging things, cruel things, the back and forth in the past months legendary. Now donald trump he said called him had a nice conversation, thought he was funny. Still not endorsing but a pleasant, cordial conversation. I sure as hell hope he didnt give him his phone number. People who worked with and met donald trump often say in private he can be very charming and attentive, a close student of the person hes with. That actually is not a contradiction to the other things we see in donald trump. The question paul ryan must face and ana put it well. Hes calling for a 69 or 68yearold man to change the tone of the past half century of his life. And probably donald trump, if hes got a goal in sight, can do that, for a time. But the question you have to ask is, is what we saw the previous half century, is that the real guy . Or is the Good Behavior the next couple of weeks, is that the real guy . And what kind of president will he be . That is the thing republicans are wrestling with. So many republicans including Lindsey Graham put on the record their thoughts about what kind of President Donald Trump will be. They cant unsay it. Even if they try to unsay it, it cant be unsaid. The words spoken are on the record. Thank you both so much. Brianna. George zimmermans attempts to auction off the gun used to kill Trayvon Martin so far thwarted but will he try again . And what does trayvons family think . We will speak with the familys attorney. If youre going to make a statement. Make sure its an intelligent one. So yesterday we told you about George Zimmermans plan to sell the gun he used to kill teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012. He was going to do it by online auction. This morning one of those two online gun sellers has pulled the plug on the zimmerman auction. Lets get reaction from Attorney Benjamin Crump who represents the family of Trayvon Martin. Counselor it is good to see you. Not for this reason but i figured if this is going to be in the news, we might at well use it as an opportunity to get an echo effect from you about where the family is and what they want people to remember about this situation, but just to correct the record, there are two gun brokers online here that this guy is using. Ones gun broker, the other swun united gun group. Gun broker took this down. Said that they dont want to be identified with this guy. The other group, united gun group, said they were taking it down and now said theyre not putting it, taking it down. Its still up. What do you want people to take away from what zimmerman is doing . Well, like trayvon parents, they want people to continue to focus on the mission of the Trayvon Martin foundation, and that is end senseless gun violence in america and they wont comment on the actions of the person that killed their son trayvon and his attempt to profit from the loss of their child. What is it that you think George Zimmerman doesnt understand about this situation . Well, you know, if you look at it from trayvons parents perspective, its like he is shooting and killing trayvon all over again four years later with this attempt to auction off this gun, like its some kind of trophy. I mean, its offensive. Its outrageous, and its insulting. You know, these parents are trying to get on with their lives. They are trying to do good work for the legacy of their unarmed child who was profiled, pursued and shot in the heart as he walked home, and no matter what seems like he keeps reappearing to open the wounds again and again. To people who say, he was found not guilty. Hes an american. He says he was attacked. He needs to make a living, also. What do you say . Chris cuomo, i say to those people, if it was o. J. Simpson auctioning off the gloves of Nicole Brown Simpson and ron goldman murder would they be making the same argument . Why when the victim is a africanamerican and we dont see it as offensive and dont condone the act. Its not right in any situation. And so when people kill people they should not be able to celebrate the killing of the people or profit off of it. Is it any type of Silver Lining effect that people who seem to be roundly condemning this offer, when you go on to the boards, sure, some people are bidding in bad taste, and trying to treat this as a joke, but that even the media in reporting this has a jaundiced aspect to it. Do you think that seeing that what zimmerman is doing is being rejected does that give hope to the family and give hope to you in terms of what the takeaway is from that entire event . Well, you pray for that chris. You pray that all americans come together and say, were going to let love win out over hate. And thats the big thing. We have to end this senseless gun violence so no more of our children suffer the fate of Trayvon Martin. What do you say to united gun group, the outfit that said they were going to pull this and then didnt and still has the auction up . That is this a company that wants to put their arms around the conduct of the killer of Trayvon Martin and say that were going to look at this gun as a trophy, and as a piece of iconic American History . Is that really what they want to be known for . I think the public should be outraged just like trayvons parents are outraged. Benijamin crump, thank you fr being on new day and making the case for decency this morning. Thank you, chris. Allan lichtman likes to say he can predilkt the outcome of any election, and who can really argue, because he has been right every time since 1984. But this year, even he is a little stumped right now. So why is 2016 so unpredictable. Distinguished professor at American University and joining us now. I do want to ask you about 2016, but first, explain this. Its 13 keys, basically markers that you came up with, conditions that will determine if the opposing party is going to thwart the incumbent party. Yeah, i actually came up with totally, of course, by accident. Back in 1981, when i was a visiting scholar at cal tech, i met another scholar, the worlds authority, from moscow, on earthquake prediction. We decided we would apply the methods of earthquake prediction to elections to figure out if there would be stability, the party holding the white house keeps, the white house or an earthquake, the party holding the white house loses. We looked at every election from 1960 to 1980 and came up with 13 key fraactors, true false questions. The basic theory, the American People are pragmatic. Were not driven by the ads, the speeches, and tricks of the campaign. We give the party in power four more years if they performed well enough. The 13 keys are designed to gauge that. If six or more go against the party in power, they lose. The party holding the white house, now the democrats. Otherwise, they win. And weve since applied that as you say, to every election ahead of time since 1984. Were looking at some of the keys now. Some of these take a little explaining. You see party mandate. Thats actually very scientific. Its that after the midterm elections, you have the incumbent party that is holding more seats in the u. S. House of representatives than they did after the previous midterm election. You would look at 2014, how that compares to 2010. It is really scientific stuff here. In 2016, as we look towards november, youre unsure whats going to happen. Why, tell us why that is, and tell us if you think, you know, when you think youll be able to make the call. Yeah, this is the most puzzling election ive yet seen. Here is why. First of all, the democrats are now down four keys. Remember, theyre the party in power, six and theyre out. Two keys are still hanging balance. Key number two is the internal Party Contest key for the party in power. Right now, the best friend, donald trump, has ever had is Bernie Sanders. By protracting a nomination struggle, he cannot mathematically win, he has put that key in jeopardy, and vastly increased the chances that donald trump is going to be elected president. If sanders wants to see trump stopped, he has got to unite behind the obvious nominee, Hillary Clinton. So this critical contest key is right now in abeyance. The other contest key is number 11, Foreign Policy success key. There have been a lot of initiatives that could be regarded as big success he is. The Iran Nuclear Agreement you could argue in the most unstable region of the world, maybe even a nuclear war, the break through with cuba is historic, but obama hasnt sold it to the American People. So shehere is my advice to president obama. Forget conventional campaigning. The keys say conventional campaigning has never, ever made a difference in turning a president ial election. Instead, sell your accomplishments to the American People. Youre the great communicator. You can do it. Secure key number 11 for your party and Hillary Clinton will be the next president. Otherwise, it could well be trump. The last key, and this is pretty interesting to me about how you judge this. Some of these are not how i would think they would fall. When it comes to challenger charisma, the Challenging Party candidate is not caris matt particular or a national hero, or perhaps they are, how does donald trump shape up with that . I think a lot of people would clearly say he has charisma, even the cult personality, thats the reason why people are drawn to him. But how does this work out when youre scoring him . Brianna, when you buy my booking, youll see how carefully these keys are defined. While donald trump certainly does have a degree of charisma, the reason he doesnt win the key is his appeal have very, very limited. Its limited to a particular slice of the electorate. He has the highest negatives going into the general Election Campaign of any candidate in the history of polling. Whereas the once in a generation kinds of candidates that have been tabbed as charisma, rather than narrow appeal. Sorry, trump, you dont get that key. Its really fascinating stuff, dr. Lichtman, thank you so much. I get geeked on your keys here. Im going to monitor them. Thank you for being with us. Have me back when i make a final prediction. We certainly will. Were including a lot of news, including whether the gop can have union fty. Lets get to it. I was very encouraged. We are planting the seeds to get ourselves unified. Positive first step toward unifying the party. This idea of the party coming together and uniting is crucial. I certainly want to be delivering on the challenges that still lie ahead of us. It is our campaign, which result in a Democratic Victory in november. When hillary wins the nomination, i believe everybody will endorse her and embrace her. Announcer this is cnn predicting news. Confirmed, he is running for vicepresident , with which candidate . Solely or possibly both candidates to maximize my chances. Do you think youre making a mockery of this election. I think its too late for anyone to do this. Announcer this is new day with chris cuomo and alisyn camerota. Good morning, may 13th, 8 00 in the east. Alisyn is off. We got keilar on the right, berman on the left. Lets get after it. Stuck in the middle with you. Very well done. Very well done. Donald trump and Republican Leaders burying the hatchet, celebrating a move toward unity. House speaker paul ryan, rnc chair Reince Priebus emerging from yesterdays high stakes how power summit with a commitment to Work Together. No endorsement yet, but everything for trump is moving the right way. Even got a big donor on board. As for the democrats, congressional leaders hoping that tying trump to the republican establishment will help them, and likely democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in november. But Bernie Sanders says not so fast. He said he would pose as a tougher challenger to donald trump and points to the polls to prove it. Were all over this morning. Lets begin with manu raju live in washington. Zrchlts hey, joh zrchlts. He is the last man standing, so the Republican Party leadership knows they have to put the full backing of the republican machinery behind him if they want any chance to defeat Hillary Clinton this fall. Now, yesterday when donald trump met with House Republicans and senate republicans, he spent a lot of time listening to abortion, immigration, he even promised to nominate conservative justices to the Supreme Court. At the end of the day, senators say they actually liked him. I thought it was great meeting. We had a we discussed a lot of things. No endorsements, but a more united front in the gop, following thursdays critical meeting between Republican Leaders and their presumptive nominee. For the most part, we agree on a lot of different items, and were getting there. I dont mind going through a little bit of a slow process. Its a very big subject. I mean, we have a lot of things. House speaker paul ryan, using the meeting as an opportunity to get better acquainted with trump, before giving his full endorsement. This is a first very encouraging meeting, but again, in 45 minutes, you dont litigate all of the processes and all of the issues in the principles that we are talking about. Rnc chairman Reince Priebus, confident the party can present a united front come this fall. Positive first step to unifying the party. It was a great meeting. It had very Good Chemistry between the two of them. After the meeting, i asked trumps former rival, rand paul, about the rest of the Party Falling in line. Parties usually work things out. I think well get there. South carolina senator Lindsey Graham, among trumps most striving critics, saying this back in december. We know how you make America Great again, tell donald trump to go to hell. Changing his tone, graham said in a statement, i had a cordial, pleasant phone conversation with trump. I congratulated him on winning the republican nomination for president. Now, all eyes will be on the partys next steps, and what endorsements, if any, will follow. From here, were going to go deeper into the policy areas to see where that Common Ground is and how we can make sure that we are operating off the same core principles. Now, were still waiting for paul ryan to make the full throated endorsement. He will probably soon, after he and the trump team start to discuss policy ideas, and that Election Year agenda that the House Speaker is working so carefully on and he does no the want donald trump to undermine. So theyll continue to work on that, but later this morning, actually republicans on capitol hill will be meeting with Top Trump Campaign Officials as part of the effort, outreach effort into win more support from republicans on capitol hill. But one thing that will help donald trump is the support of a big name endorsement, that is sheldon adelson, billionaire casino owner, and assigned big money donors could be falling his way. Manu raju in the white hot intrigue surrounding this candidacy. Thank you very much for the reporting. Lets discuss the meeting. The matters at the meeting, the path forward and the new intrigue surrounding donald trump with mr. Joseph barelli. What is your correct title now . Cochair of the campaign here in new york. The new york part of the good. Youre the cochair. Good to have you here. Thanks. Lets talk policy first. One of the things that shows this potential shift of trump trying to unify, trying to get along better, seem tobs one of his signature issues. Muslims and the problem he believes they present to the United States. Lets play a clip of what he said originally and what he is saying now and why the difference. Donald j. Trump is calling for a total and complete shut down of muslims entering the United States until our countrys representatives can figure out what the hell is going on. We have a serious problem, its a temporary ban. It hasnt been called for yet. Nobody has done it. This is just a suggestion. Until we find out whats going on. Now, youre counselman, youre elected here in new york city, was it 51st district. Yes. You know what happens with positions. This a signature position. It worked very well for him with the part of the base, he is strong, firm, definite. Now he is taking a big step off of it. Why isnt this seen as a red flag for people as opposed to something that shows flexibility. He was even clear in his statement that he doesnt want to allow muslims until they can be verified. He is actually even on fox news last night in an interview, he has clarified and said this is really about syrian immigrants. A lot of people, including myself who live in a city like new york dont believe we should have bane or some religious l test. Unrestricted access of people from syria, and they see the problems not just with terrorism, but with social upheaval and they think someone like donald trump who has this position where we should be regulating, is actually quite practical. Except, what you just said is fine. Reasonable. You hold that opinion. A lot of people would share it. Thats not what he said. What he said is, there is a problem with islam. Talking about all of them. Lets keep all of them out. Now he is saying its a suggestion. He is not as definite about it. If Hillary Clinton did Something Like that you would be all over it on this show. Saying what a vacillating flipflopper she is, look at this. She doesnt believe anything like it. She is moving away. Why arent you aghast . It seems like that is what he could be seen he is guilty of. Donald trump made the comments in december. He has never run for Public Office before. He had a position that was very hard and firm at that point then, i think he has been doing this hold on one second. I keep hearing this. He has never run for office before. He hasnt. Right. Does that mean he doesnt know what he believes about a religion or doesnt . No, but he said something a professional politician like myself may not say. Called the truth . Youre supposed to say how you actually feel, right . This isnt are your taxes going to go up. Go back to the same clip, december 1st, he said we dont want to allow muslim immigrants to come until they can be verified and until the country can do a better job. Its just a suggestion. He doubled down on the today show, saying everything i say is just a suggestion. Im not the president. It seems to be a softening, a weakening, from a guy who is all about strength and saying ill never change on it. Im the only one saying it. What are we supposed to believe . I dont think people should believe that he is weakening. We see that as evidenced by some of the polls by quinnipiac and some of the swing states. Not only is he tied and winning in ohio, but when we look at the cross tabs, we see him beating hillary on specifically terrorism. So i dont think people should take away to any degree he is being weak or hedging his bet. Another thing popped up this morning about the campaign. Could see it as funny or a little concerning. The Washington Post says they have tape from 25 years ago of donald trump posing as his own pr guy, calling them on the phone, calling reporters on the phone and planting stories about himself. Here is a clip of the tape they say is him. What is your name again. John muller. You work with . Yes, tremendous, they get advice, and you know, totally unanimous, working hard and doing well. Does that sound like trump to you . I have no idea. You know does that sound like trump to you . I have absolutely no idea whether that was donald trump d disguising his voice. Look, this is a guy in his own book, traditional politicians would not have done. The thought that some tape has surfaced shouldnt be surprising to people. Im going to run for offeice, i things like this happened in his life, it is not surprising. He has lived in the public life his whole life. Youre going to see drumming up his past, this is the only thing Hillary Clinton can do. She isnt doing it. Its the Washington Post. The only thing Clinton Campaign it is not the campaign. It is the Washington Post and a bunch of witnesses. Everybody has a life. Not everybody micro manages because it may look good. How do you deal with who you are and what do you tell the truth about . Here is what he said this morning. The post says this is something you did routinely, you would call reporters and plant stories and said you were john miller or john baron, but in fact, it was actually you on the phone. Is that something you did with any regularity. No, it was not me on the phone. It was not me on the phone. It doesnt sound like me on the phone. I will tell you that. It was not me on the phone. When was this, 25 years ago . In the early 90s. You mean youre going so low as to talk about something that took place 25 years ago about whether or not i made a phone call . I guess youre saying under a presumed name. Yes, under presumed name. Okay, the answer is no. He is doing a little bit of the blame the media, media is bad thing. Im fine with your explanation. We all have lives. It is kind of funny. To some degree. But dont you have to own it . He is saying it is not him. There were a lot of witnesses. What was Hillary Clinton doing at the same time . What was she doing as our senator for three years. She is trying to portray as a mover and shaker. If were going to focus on what donald trump did 25 years ago, maybe we should focus on does it matter if he tells the truth about it . He did. He did just now. All these witnesses, he used to joke with them about it and all that . Ayoull have to ask him i wa 11 at the time. Most of us can grow a beard by 9. Thank you for making the case as always, appreciate it. Brianna. As for the democrats, Bernie Sanders says that he is fighting for the nomination. He is going to keep doing that. Well be seeing if thats a reality. Well be talking to his Campaign Manager ahead. Oh, we have chris frates. Of a broken teleprompter. I was hoping that was a tease, chris frates, but you know what, were going to you. Tell us about what is going on. This is still very much a primary battle that Hillary Clinton is facing against Bernie Sanders. Still very much a primary battle. You are exactly right. He was in he took his long shot campaign to south dhaakato reasons to believe he can beat Hillary Clinton. It is mathematically impossible for sanders to win enough delegates in these remaining contests to clinch the nomination. So if sanders instead is arguing that he could still win more pledged delegates when it ends next month. Even that, it is a pretty high bar. Sanders would need 67 of the remaining pledged delegates to beat clinton by just one delegate. Even then, sanders would need super delegates, the party big shots who also get to vote at the convention. He would need to flip them and get their support and that is very, very unlikely. Sanders says he is still the best position to take on and beat donald trump, but when he was pressed yesterday, he acknowledged that clinton could also defeat the presumptive nominee. I am not here to say that Hillary Clinton cant defeat donald trump. I absolutely believe that she can. But i believe quite honestly that Bernie Sanders is the stronger candidate. Now, clinton has maintained a lower profile than sanders. Her only event yesterday was a meeting with aids activists at her brooklyn headquarters. And she has nothing today. Bernie sanders will be in fargo, north dakota. We have a sad story to tell you about. Chicagos gang culture to high school graduate, featured in the documentary, chicagoland, but he has become the latest victim. He was gunned down this week. Police still looking for answers. Cnn ryan young has more from chicago this morning. Good morning, ryan. Reporter good morning, john. This is a story and conversation that so many people across chicago because they think they. He was 22 years old an shot just yesterday. He was shot in the head. So far, were not sure what kind of Information Police have in this case, after he was just left there in the street. What we do know, we saw this kids transformation. He went from being a gang member to a student leader, to even prom king. We watched on that show as he was able to even get admitted to college. But so far, you can see, it didnt turn out the way so many people hoped it would with this kid. We saw elizabeth dozer try so hard to keep this kid alive and keep it real with him. Listen to this part of the show. I think we have to think whats the longterm plan, you know, for your life. Who you want to be as a man. I dont have a plan. What do you think about maybe in january, what do you think about going away to college or to a trade school . I wouldnt mind going away. Give me your word well meet up next week. You know me, i keep 100 real. You know how i am. I dont want to be hearing nothing bad happening to you. I dont want to be going to your funeral. And obviously, those words now sticking out, but if you just think about this back in 2014, he was shot in the leg when he was standing in a crowd, and just three weeks ago, he was with his girlfriend, when someone started shooting at another crowd and she was shot and killed right in front of him. This is just apart of the violence thats being going on in chicago. It has been a very violent year and so many people are worried what will happen with the summer already at an uptake with the violence. You know the story so well and the situation, and then life for so many of these young people, and one wanted to get out, wanted to do Something Else. And yet still become a victim. Bernie sanders is back on the campaign trail today. He is in north dakota, and the Sanders Campaign still believing that a contested convention is possible, and he, not Hillary Clinton is the stronger democratic candidate and best suited to face donald trump. Lets talk about all of this with sanders Campaign Manager, jeff weaver. Thank you for being with us. I have to ask you about a fundraising email from you, actually to sanders supporters that your candidate has been asked about, and is creating quite a lot of attention. In it, it says your words, the Democratic Party must decide if they want the candidate with the momentum who is best positioned to beat trump or willing to roll the dice and Court Disaster, simply to protect the status quo for the political and financial establishment of this country. Youre taking a lot of incoming, for suggesting that going with Hillary Clinton is to Court Disaster against donald trump. What is your response . Well, the election of donald trump would be disaster, and so you know but you are implying if she is the candidate, if youre saying courting disaster is to go with Hillary Clinton, not just donald trump being elected. Youre saying it is Hillary Clinton. No, what im saying is that Bernie Sanders by all of the evidence is a stronger candidate against donald trump. If you choose the candidate thats not the stronger candidate, then youre courting disaster. The disaster would be the election of donald trump to the presidency of the United States. The evidence is pretty clear, brianna. The polls have been consistent. Bernie sanders runs stronger than secretary clinton. Thats the case with the polls. The recent Battle Ground polls in ohio and pennsylvania and to florida, where the secretary was losing to trump in ohio. Was only one point up in florida and pennsylvania, very, very difficult situation for democrats. Youve been on the campaign trail, i know, covering the campaign the whole time. Youve seen the energy that Bernie Sanders brings to young people, millions of young people have come out, independents that vote for him. Will the secretary be able to capture those people in the fall if she is the nominee . Maybe, but maybe not. But we know Bernie Sanders has. So he is clearly the stronger candidate. I think it would be courting disaster to go with a weaker candidate against donald trump. Donald trump would be a phenomenally bad president. A lot of people look at those head to head polls and say theyre interesting, but theyre not really reliable. They dont really tell us a whole lot about what would actually happen in november. Well, i dont know that thats the case. I mean, weve had a long primary campaign now. All the candidates have received substantial exposure, a wide variety of states across the country. Were down to, you know, nine states left to go in the process. So people around the country are very familiar with Bernie Sanders, theyre very familiar with Hillary Clinton, very familiar with donald trump. And i think that these polls really are a very strong indicator of what will happen in november. At least at this point. Things can change. The cam papaign is not over. Coming out of the gate, if we were to start the election today, Bernie Sanders started off in a much stronger position in large part again because of his support from young people and from independent voters. He is suffering from his support from certainly some of the important demographic groups in the democratic tent. And by his own i was at an event this week where he said we have won 45 of pledged delegates, but he would need to win 67 . This is one that needs to up their grade by 21 . Considered basically impossible to get to the pledged delegate match with Hillary Clinton. Thats considered basically impossible in the scheme of how politics kind of work their way out in the primary season. With that in mind, how is he not just prolonging this and damaging Hillary Clintons performance for a general election . Well, let me say this about that point. And i think we saw in 2008 when secretary clinton went all the way to the end when she was running against then senator obama. He was an extremely candidate in the fall, and so i think that myth of a long primary really was dispelled back in 2008. In addition to that, the fact that the democratic primary is still going on means that issues of importance are being discussed on the air, issues like raising the minimum wage, dealing with health care, dealing with trade policy, how we create jobs, how we deal with a rigged economy, a corrupt finance system. Once the process is over, all the issues will just evaporate and what were going to have is donald trump important issues to americans. This process makes whoever comes out of it a much stronger candidate on the back end. All right, jeff weaver, thanks so much for your time. We do appreciate it. Ill see you out there on the trail. John, back to you. Donald trump denies he posed as his own publicist years ago with phone calls to plants stories about himself. What is this all about . All right, no endorsement for the seeds of unification were planted during Donald Trumps meeting with House Speaker paul ryan. Trumps position on immigration has put him at odds with a lot of folks in the Republican Party, including one particular voit voting block, former United States treasurer who served under george w. Bush. Rosario, thank you for being with us. The presumptive nominee, i want to talk about the meetings between trump and ryan that took place yesterday. But i want to start with something that just broke this morning. The Washington Post published some recordings in an article which suggest that donald trump over the years has sort of posed, has his own publicist in phone calls with reporters to spin his own accomplishments, and they have recordings of this. He want you to listen to this. Whats your name again . John miller. You work with thats correct. A new tremendously, you know, totally unanimous, and he has been working hard and doing well. All right, so were hearing this sort of for the first time right along with you. My first question to you is does that sound like donald trump to you, and if yes, what does it say about a person who would do Something Like that . I think it only confirms what we all have seen all along. This is a guy that, he is so ego maniac. It is just about himself. About himself. And im not surprised. I mean, this is just confirms what weve seen all along. Does it surprise you he flat out denies it, despite the fact that there are several people, witnesses to it over the years, that yeah, it happened. Listen to what he said on the today show just a short time ago. The post also says this is something you did routinely, would you call reporters and plant stories and say either you were john miller or john baron, but in fact, it was actually you on the phone. Is that something you did with any regularity . No, and it was not me on the phone. It was not me on the phone t doesnt sound like me on the phone. I will tell you that. And it was not me on the phone. And when was this, 25 years snag. In the early 90s. You mean, youre going so low as to talk about something that took place 25 years ago about whether or not i made a phone call. I guess youre saying under i presumed name. Yes, under a presumed name. Okay, the answer is no. He denies it. And then he insults the interviewers. Surprised . No. He has done it all along. Thats why he is where he is. Because he just uses all of these techniques that he denies it. He has denied so many things that we both have seen on tv. Maybe this happened 25 years ago, whenever it was, he has done things, his campaign has done things and then he deny it is flatly on tv. It is not surprising. It is just confirmation of who he is. So rosario, youre long time republican, an activist you say these things, you say it is not surprising, i guess the question now, is what are you going to do about it . Well, im certainly not going to vote for this guy. I mean, this Little Orange man is just, he has done everything to unearn my vote. I have been a loyal republican activist. I have been on the trenches. I have done everything to try to get latinos to vote republican for the last two decades. Ive been there. And with his comments about mexicans, about immigrants, he has just, with one stroke, undone my voting for him. You called him a name there. We couldnt help but notice. You called hem a name now. You know, i dont know, i have known you for a long time. Is he dragged you down to his level with the namecalling . No. Im just describing what he is. He is a Little Orange man. Thats just the way he is. Everybody knows. When i say that, Everybody Knows who im talking about. I dont say his name. You guys say it all the time. I dont. But everybody understands, you know, when i talk about the Little Orange man, everybody understands that. You know, he has offended me as a woman. Insinuating that if you are menstruating, you cant do your job. He has offended me as mexican. I was born in mexico. To suggest that everybody that comes here is either a rapist or a drug dealer, is just very insulting. He has insulted me as the mother youve child with a disability. My son has downs syndrome. When he made fun of the reporter, that was just the last stroke. This guy has done everything to unearn my vote. I certainly cannot vote for him. I certainly cannot ask anybody to vote for this Little Orange man. So youre lifelong republican. You are active in the Republican Party. Donald trump or whatever name you choose to call him, just went to washington meet with Party Leaders. Your Party Leaders yesterday, including paul ryan. Paul ryan didnt endorse, but say theyre totally committed to the same thing. Other leaders down there did endorse. A whole lot of people seem to be coming around to donald trump. What is your attitude going to be to these people who are now supportive of donald trump, if not directly, at least supportive of his election . Yeah, you know, theyre doing it, there is they really see that they have no choice, because theyre the leaders of the party. But i have a choice. I have a choice. He you know, the way that he has talked about immigrants, i am an immigrant. John, i came to this country, this is the greatest country in the world. But when he offends everybody, when he is so negative about it, you know, he is forgetting who we are as americans. When he insults the immigrants, groups, entire groups of people, you know, that is not we dont elect the United States does not elect just the president of the United States. We elect the leader of the world. And he has no business being the leader of the world. He has divided our party. He will divide the nation and he will divide the world. Thats a scary thought. This is the land of opportunity. This is the land of immigrants. And when he has listen, just one thing. One small thing. 12 of our population is made of immigrants right now. 51 of companies in the Silicon Valley were created by immigrants. That includes google, ebay. The gentleman from instagram, he came on h 1 visa. But the way this Little Orange man talks about immigrants, you know, taking away jobs, when we are creating jobs, it is just, it is just unacceptable. Rosario, some strong views. Let me play you some of this tape that is making the rounds this morning. What is your name again . John miller. You work with yes, thats correct. He is starting a new tremendously wealth. Got advice the other day and totally unanimous. He has been working hard and doing well. Now, there is a lot of this tape, there are a lot of reporters who say yes, donald trump used to do this, most found it funny, some found it creepy, other connections about trump having acknowledged in the past that he used the same pseudonyms in the tape, but then this morning, on the today show, he said it wasnt me on the tape. I didnt do it. And how can you go so low as to bring Something Like this up. Do you think that this is irrelevant . Well, i dont know if i can say it is irrelevant chris, but it is completely new to me. I havent picked up on it this morning. Im hearing an audio that is pretty scratchy. It will probably be resolved before the day is over, whether it is his voice or not. It is not something that i would encourage of or excuse it. I think that we, the American People ought to see the truth, and all we can do is tell the truth every time and let the American People weigh their decisions on who should be the next president of the United States based upon that. Well, you tend to be a straight shooter. You own positions, even when unpopular. Thats who you are. But you know, the question that is raises, who cares about the tapes. A lot of people think its funny that he did that, or some kind of insight into, you know, how he kind of made his personal brand. But the concern is, wow, if youll lie about something that means nothing, assuming he is not telling the truth here, what would you do about actually what does matter. What has consequence. How important is that quality in a leader . Oh, i think that honesty and integrity is a very important quality, and you know, were dealing with most likely nominees will be Hillary Clinton and donald trump. Now, this could be some acting going on here, it seems to me, thats the case for whatever reason or motive it is. But it is very verified it is Donald Trumps voice, he needs to be called into account for how he characterized it. But here are some things that ive heard. Hillary clinton, for example, came into a classified briefing right after benghazi, and i cant tell you what she actually said in there, but i can tell you i went there to hear her, she would walk back the story that it was a videotape that caused the assaults in benghazi. I can tell you she didnt walk back the story. She left everybody in there believing that the governments narrative that was five times repeated and on your network too, that that was the reason for the assault. We know today that she knew better. So thats miss informing the United States congress. Thats a pretty heavy charge. I havent seen that that be very much on the topic before the American People, or the media, chris. Right, look. You want to have people who tell the truth. When i say right, im talking about the concept, not your appraisal of the hearing. The complication with your analys analysis, is there approximate a lot of reviews. One of the things they share is the story changed on the intel side very often with benghazi. What was it. There seems to be no question that secretary clinton was getting different accounts of why it happened, but you wont give her the benefit of that being the explanation for her changes in the story, what she was being told. Why not . Well, because i sat down with the Top State Department security officer, who was on at his post on duty conveying this information to Hillary Clintons chief of staff in real time. And i was thoroughly convinced that Hillary Clinton had to know the real truth within at least three and a half hours of the beginning of the operation. So that gives me a conviction thats deeper than most, because i had grilled into that and looked the man in the eye that was putting the information in front of Hillary Clinton through her chief of staff. And some will say that she knew the truth within 12 minutes. I dont know that. But im convinced she knew the truth within three and a half hours, and this briefing before classified briefing before congress, should have at least been qualified. She should have started to walk it back, but that was a narrative as they put out and i believe that the motive was in order to protect the reelection of the president , the American People were denied the truth. Now Hillary Clinton wants to be the commander in chief, the president of the United States, the leader of the free world. How does she work with the United States congress, if we cant take even take her at her word in a classified hearing, a classified briefing . Thats going to be a big issue for the voters, thats for sure, if she gets the nomination. She is not where donald trump is as far as being the presumptive nominee. Let me ask you something. We ask you about not getting things done down there, but it sounds like a lot of work going on behind you. Whats going on . Just a lot of noise. Tourists coming through and fairly active day. I didnt look around very much. I came up the elevator to get in front of the camera as fast as possible, but its an active place with a lot of background noise, and im fortunate that ive got a dual set of earpieces today so we can talk in thais arena. It sounds like youre doing trap shooting. Thank you for being on new day as always. Have a good weekend. Thank you, chris. All right, john. A man rescued from a burning car by two Police Officers. We have a look at how they went beyond the call of duty. As heros often do, two maryland Police Officers saying they were just doing their job when they raced to a burning car, saved a mans life and all captured on tape. Here is cnns brynn, showing us how these men went beyond the call of duty. Thats cody fields, the montgomery county, Maryland Police officer, dispatched to car crashes many times before. But this, was a first. What did you say in your head or out loud when you pulled up . I hope there is not somebody inside. But there was. A 34yearold man who had fallen asleep and crashed along the concrete barrier, a busy interstate 495. He is not talking right now. Or alert. Your heart must have been pounding. Yes, absolutely. I didnt see any access other than to go through the fire in order to get the guy out of the car. Officer fields would soon get help from veteran officer brian nesben. The fire was coming underneath and hitting officer fiel fieldss legs. We never took a seat belt off. We didnt cut it. We didnt cut it, anything, we ended up pulling him out of it somehow. Did you know he was going to live . I had no idea. He was barely breathing when we pulled him out. Miraculously, neither officer was burned. Soon after wiping the soot from their faces, they realized the dashcam recorded the rescue. When you saw the video, what were you thinking . Wow, is that us . It was like almost unbelievable, like we actually did that. Officer fields rushed to the they never shared the video with their superiors. A colleague put in a request they be honored for their her orrism, and they were were. They shook the hand of rashad israel, the man they saved. When you first met the officers, what did you say to them . Thank you. They made it seem like it wasnt no big deal to them. They were doing their job. Yeah, they was doing they job. But they job meant the world to me. You get the call again in the future, car burning, possibly someone inside, whats the thought that goes through your head . Hey, i hope i have officer nez bet with me. Good for them. And the man, rashad, said it right. Theyre just doing their job, but their job plent the world to me. All right, thanks so much. Busy working here, but i guys have a great weekend. Newsroom starts now. And good morning, im carol costello, thank you for joining me. The charm continues. Right now, donald trump and his campai c campai campaign aides, call for union fee, but trump has other matters to contend with this morning. Washington post report says there is a lot of evidence that back in the 1990s, donald trump posed as his own
