Some years. Reporter the manufacturer issued a statement saying it remains committed to consumer safety but like the government it does not yet know why the airbags are exploding. Although takata has devoted tremendous resources with some of the leading researchers, its clear this is a complex issue which takes time to fully evaluate. You want to know is your car on the list go to safercar. Gov have your vehicle Identification Number the v. I. N. Number you can put it in and it will tell you if your cars on the list. I will tell you alisyn. You may want to go to this website more than once. I did this last night and at the end it said check back to make sure your car hasnt been added to the list because this story is developing. It is not done yet. Alisyn. Oh boy. We can only imagine if that website can handle all the capacity its going to get this morning. Thanks so much, tom. We want to bring in Joan Claybrook she was in the 1981 ford recall previously the largest ever until now. Thanks so much for being on new day. Thank you. 34 million vehicles. What does that even look like . Its so monumental. Does every one of those cars need to be off the road today . They do. But theyre not going to be because this is such a huge recall its going to take years really to carry it out. As we were saying in 1981 the previous recall of i think 21 million cars i think it was ford you were at the helm and it got bogged down in all sorts of politics. What goes into a recall of this magnitude . Well this has been a big fight with takata as we know. And the government has had to press were very grateful to Mark Rosekind the new administrator of the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration for grappling with this and for finding takata pushing them and enforcing the law and being the cop on the beat. So takata has now conceded it has a defect. And its time to recall these vehicles. And its going to take years to do it because 34 million new airbags have to be manufactured. And then replaced in the vehicles. So its going to take years. But what does that mean for drivers who may be driving around with an airbag that if it deploys sprays shrapnel on the passengers . Well what that means is everyone should go to the website at the department of transportation safercar. Gov and find if their car has a takata airbag. And if it does they should be in contact with their dealer as soon as possible to see how fast they can get a replacement. I do know that honda has contracted with another airbag manufacturer to try and get Replacement Parts faster. So you want to keep in touch and call your dealer as soon as possible. Can we talk about the timeline of this . Because honda knew that there were issues in 2008 and began trying to address them. Why just yesterday did takata issue this recall . Well youll have to ask the company that question. I think that they made a huge mistake. If they had called the vehicles back in 2008 when they first really knew there was a problem, then they would have a much cheaper and much more efficient recall back then. Now its just so humongous that people are at risk and i know were going to see more deaths and injuries. This effects a whole bunch of different cars, different models models. Bmw, Chrysler Nissan mitsubishi ford gm Toyota Subaru mazda, its almost as if there are no cars that arent effected by this. Again, if youre a driver waking up is it safe to drive your car this morning . It is. And its a recall conundrum about whether or not to disconnect your airbag so that you dont have this problem or to leave it hooked up. I think you have to leave it hooked up because you may have a crash where the airbag is desperately needed. So you want to leave it hooked up. But on the other hand it is a deadly system that not every single airbag is defective, just some of them are. We doept know exactly which ones. Thats a great point. Because there have been six deaths that we know of worldwide connected to these airbags. In other words it is extremely rare. Yes, it is rare. So the likelihood of any particular airbag at any particular point in time is going to have this problem is small. But on the other hand it could happen. And so thats why manufacturers when they delay these recalls are really harming the public and harming themselves. Thats why i believe the department of transportation should be the tough cop on the beat. When they find a problem initially they should force manufacturers to do recalls early on. And when they leave it for a long period of time it becomes massive and difficult and expensive. And harmful to the public. Okay. So your advice is do not disconnect your airbag. You can continue to drive today, but as soon as possible check the website and contact the dealership. Thats correct. Miss Joan Claybrook, thanks so much for all your expertise. We appreciate you being on. Thanks so much. If you think your car might be effected start a preliminary check by going to safercar. Gov, then do slash rs slash takata. Chris, who knows when parts will become available. Well how long is going to be a big question there, but at least we know about it now, alisyn. Also breaking overnight, north korea claiming Nuclear Weapons are within its rich. Pyongyang says the country has achieved a key step towards placing a Nuclear Warhead on a missile. Will ripley joins us from tokyo with breaking details. Will what do we know . Reporter this is a troubling development, chris. We saw these warning signs when we were in north korea a short time ago. While i was in the country the state announced they had successfully launched a test missile from a submarine. Now a new announcement the north korea also says they have the ability to take Nuclear Bombs and make them small enough to fit on a Ballistic Missile. Ballistic missile that pyongyang says would have the capability of reaching the u. S. Of course all of this very troubling not only for the United States which is north koreas number one sworn enemy. They talked about it the whole time we were on the ground there, but also the regional allies of the u. S. South korea, japan, countries that are within gunshot of north korea now have a new reason to be concerned. And there are more signs this country may be pulling back and trying to isolate itself more from the International Community after north korea abruptly canceled a trip to the dmzs kesong industrial complex. They canceled without notice showing they clearly dont want to do any talking with the International Community even as they step up rhetoric. The problem with north korea is that they lie, right . They spin things out there just to intimidate everybody else and get us yapping like this. We think about the submarine photos of something supposedly being launched turns out they were doctored. What is the believability on this . Reporter well many experts including the United States and china believe north korea does possess Nuclear Weapons. Now, the u. N. And the pentagon also does believe and theyre actually talking about this back in april that north korea has the ability to miniaturize Nuclear Weapons. However, the accuracy of their Ballistic Missile, the number of weapons that they may possess, of course there are suspicions that the north does tend to embellish, but the bottom line here chris, this country which doesnt have enough money to feed its own people is investing a tremendous amount of money in its military program specifically its Nuclear Program. They are very serious about developing Nuclear Weapons and have no plans to back down chris. So it does seem safe to say its not an if but a when question. Well stay on it. Will thank you very much. To iraq now where isis is tightening its grip on ramadi and now pressing east. Top Iraqi Government officials are hoping to stop the terrorist advance by moving even more fighters into the area. Cnn International Correspondent arwa damon has more live from jordan. Reporter good morning, michaela. The big problem is where to get a capable fighting force from because it most certainly does not exist within the ranks of the Iraqi Security forces themselves. And therefore we do have the government now calling for more of those shia Para Military units to move to an area called habania. Theres a military base there and located between ramadi and fallujah. Isis seems to be focusing its attacks now on smaller towns that are to the east of ramadi. Isis does not necessarily have to make a significant push toward baghdad at this stage. All it has to do is bog the iraqi forces down trying to defend the various front lines that could potentially threaten the capital. The Iraqi Government is also saying at this stage that it is finally going to make a serious attempt to arm up the sunni tribes all of which, yes, will further complicate the battlefield given that there is no real cohesive chain of command between the various different entities that do make up the force that is trying to make a stance against isis but at this stage the Iraqi Government does not have a choice. The u. S. Also is going to have to somehow seriously revise its socalled strategy at this stage. If it does want to see isis pushed back especially when it comes to the dynamics and umbar province. Lets talk about that. Despite that the backlash from the white house officials insist that president obamas use of air strikes on key isis targets while relying on Iraqi Ground Forces has yielded gains in retaking ramadi. Cnns Sunlen Serfaty at the white house. Isdoes not necessitate guarding their strategy. A lot of criticism from republicans, even the president s own former secretary of defense who say they do need a strategy when talking about the broader fight over isis. Speaker of the house john boehner saying hope is not a strategy and the white house pushing back saying they were always clear this would be a long slog but theyre clearly on the defensive. Are we going to light our hair on fire every time theres a setback in the campaign against isil . Or are we going to take very seriously our responsibility to evaluate those areas where we succeed and evaluate where steps are necessary for us to change our strategy where weve sustained setbacks. On tuesday president obama met not only with his secretary of defense but his Broader National Security team to assess the situation. And while white house aides say they do not have a formal review of the strategy going on emphasis there of course on formal that they are looking on ways where they can help the iraqiled operation including accelerating training and equipping local tribes. Chris, thats in addition to the ongoing Coalition Air strikes. Sunlen thank you very much. We have new developments on that biker war in texas that has police and gangs worried about what comes next. Cnns nick valencia live in waco. What are these developments . Reporter good morning, chris. New overnight one of the gangs involved in sundays incident has decided to cancel its annual event outside of waco texas. This based on the suggestion of the local sheriff. More than 300 bikers were expected to attend. Also new this Morning Police have brought back into custody three of the men that were originally arrested under a different case number brought in on a 50,000 bond as we have been reporting many of those that are in custody all of those i should say in custody have been held on 1 million bond Jim Harris Juan Garcia and drew king all taken back into custody with the help of the u. S. Marshal service. Also this morning things at the scene creeping back to normal. Yesterday police removing many of the vehicles left behind after sundays incident. They were removing some heavy weapons from those cars. This is the first day weve seen a sort of smaller perimeter around the strip mall. Police hope its a sign of better developments here to come. Michaela. All right, nick. Well be watching this and discussing more about it on our show. Hillary clinton meanwhile doing something she hasnt done for nearly a month, talking to the media. At a Campaign Stop in iowa clinton told reporters she made a mistake when she supported the iraq war. She also called for the speedy release of her emails from the days as secretary of state. I have said repeatedly i want those emails out. Nobody has a bigger interest in getting them released than i do. I respect the state department. They have their process that they do for everybody not just for me. But anything that they might do to expedite that process i heartily support. Also this morning the wall street journal reporting that when clinton was secretary of state her staff scrutinize sometimes blocked the release of politically sensitive documents that were legally requested as public records. The white house is now saying it may accelerate training sunni fighters but is resisting other changes. Is this the right course . Do they need to change . Is this the right change if they do have to change . Lets bring in the author of going to tehran and she served on the National Security council under both president clinton and george w. Bush. Bipartisan genius in play. Lets do a bit of a short answer session here on this stuff. Sure. This is a lot in the air. Isis taking ramadi big deal not big deal . I think it is a big deal. And the white house itself is reacting in that way. Even though theyre saying its not a big deal theyve convened not just the National Security council but an expanded session of the National Security council to really deeply reexamine strategy. And theyve decided to rush 1,000 shoulderheld rocket propellers to iraqi forces. Which i think is a dramatic testament to the significance of this development. Is this the reality that the people fighting on the ground just are not that good . And this is the frustration without having u. S. Boots on the ground . I dont think so. Even when we had u. S. Boots on the ground weve had over 100,000 u. S. Soldiers on the ground in iraq. The problem is not whether people are good fighters or not. Weve had our best fighters there not only in terms of numbers but our best people. And so have the iraqis. The problem is theres not a military solution to this. The 2003 invasion of iraq and destruction of the state was enormous had enormous significance strategically. It destroyed the state and completely overturned the sunniled political order in the state and the region. Theres not a military solution to that. Theres only a political solution that focuses on conflict resolution and empowering states to be states not to attack their citizens. Right, but whether or not you can take ra maymadi is a function of my ability to stop you from that and certainly the u. S. Was better at that. As you know very well and those of us that covered it understood the u. S. And Coalition Forces rolled through where they wanted to once the war got going. It was about whether or not they could hold them. So youre saying shortterm defies longterm reality here. They need to find a better state solution. Not only does it defy it but it really dramatically shocks it. Because shortterm yeah sure you could kill Saddam Hussein, you can kill Moammar Gadhafi in libya, but what youre doing is building and gendering this deep resentment among largely sunni operations that get them to fight to the death and perform in suicide bombings and other tactics because theyre desperate to protect not only themselves and families but they see the Greater Community of sunni muslims. So were trying to pick a new leader here hillary, as you know and one of them on the republican side rand paul says he knows what to do about isis and heres part of his solution. The kurds are good fighters. I would go one step further, i would arm the kurds and offer them a homeland. If you will fight and if you will fight to keep these people out, i would give you a homeland. Lets test it. Peshmerga no question theyre good fighters. Theyve been fighting for their own existential reasons for a long time. What does that mean to hear somebody who wants to be president of the United States say i would give them a state. How does that play into the views of what the u. S. Does . Well i think two things. One, its a stra teejtegic mistake. For the United States to go down the road of arming and funding and training yet another ethnically focused group in the middle east. That doesnt work when wi do it with broader sunni muslims, hasnt worked in syria, yemen and not going to work for the kurds in iraq. The other piece here is i think it displays a level of ignorance. The United States does not control the map as the british and french did 100 years ago where we can simply draw or carve out another state. The United States doesnt have that kind of power. And even if we did when the british and french did it it has led to 100 years of war in the middle east. Thats not a recipe for stability or something thats in u. S. Interests. You need to balance what is seen as american exceptionalism or ability to be leaders whether its militarily or in terms of lifestyle with what may be perceived as american imperialism, right . Thats the critical difference. We should be leading as exemplars, as exemplars of the benefits of our system. Not by trying to impose it as the butt of a gun. That doesnt work. Weve been trying it now in the middle east since 2003 and it hasnt worked in any of these battlefields whether its iraq syria, yemen, afghanistan, it doesnt work. We need to lead as exemplars not as military imperialists. How long does this go on . I think as long as we continue to fuel the anger and the resentment by arming training and funding yet more militias in the middle east which leads to the destruction and death of more and more muslims they will continue to come together. What happens if we do the opposite . Which is work on helping the evolution of politics there and social gains and dump money into the region and not fuel the fight . Then what happens . Well weve already dumped money. Weve spent over 1 trillion fighting this socalled war in iraq which has led to disastrous results. I think instead of being the, you know putting more money in we should focus on conflict resolution on working with both existing governments and institutions internationally for real sustainable conflict resolution. Its something we havent done in a long time since really during the cold war when we were forced to but we can return to that. And we can be leaders in diplomacy and conflict resolution. We created the United Nations and we can create a Better International world order through diplomacy, not through militarily based imperialism. I was reading something about perspective on the iraq war and it said you know youre in a bad situation when the political debate right now was getting into iraq was a really big mistake but the last six years have been filled with really big mistakes. Never a good level of evaluation. Hillary, thank you very much for your perspective. Thank you. Chris, this played out like a hollywood movie, a stunning 300 million jewel heist over the weekend. The recall involves cars from 11 automakers. Still no answer from takata on how it plans to fix this problem. Iran will not allow any sort of inspections of its military centers. Patriots owner robert kraft says he reluctantly accepts the penalties which include a 1 million fine and the loss of two draft choices. But Quarterback Tom Brady is appealing his fourgame suspension. And the Players Association is wanting goodell to recuse himself as the man who listens to that appeal. Supposed to be an impartial person but he says its my league i need to show authority. But the fact that the patriots arent appealing, does that mean guilt . No means they feel its not worth it which is what mr. Kraft said from the beginning. It will be very tough because the body youre appealing to is the one that wants to punish you. I think the problem for the fans is that this league has to establish itself as a moral authority. And the idea that now this is what its going to make its case on cheating is cheating and you deflated the balls. But what about the argument this is the new nfl . I know but same guys same administration. They have a ways to go. I think the way to punish brady is make him play for the jets. That seems like a good punishment. All right. This is quite a story. Nine arrests now in one of the biggest jewel heists in london history. The suspects this is interesting in and of itself they range in age from 43 to 76. They were taken into custody in a pair of raids. Theyre accused of pulling off a 300 million crime that reads like a hollywood caper. Cnns max foster has more live from london. So you could have gone that route, max. Why not . Reporter its amazing. This is what the typical front page we got here today theyre calling them the diamond weezers pointing out three of the suspects are actually pensioners with a combined age of 533. A major breakthrough in londons massive jewelry heist. Nine british suspects arrested who they believe are connected to this breakin over the easter weekend. The thieves captured on Surveillance Video stealing gems and cash. One former Police Official speculating that their loot may be worth as much as 300 million. Now a twist. These suspects average age nearly 60. More than 200 officers sweeping london and the surrounding areas before detaining them on tuesday recovering high valued property during those raids. The plan sophisticated. The thieves repelling down the elevator shaft to the basement. Then using a drill to bore through a sixfoot thick wall. Finally reaching the vault holding the safety deposit boxes. This photo showing the large hole left behind. The thieves rifling through the boxes for possibly four days. The arrests come spawned an intruder alarm that the burglars set off. At times we have been portrayed as if weve acted like keystone cops. But i want to reassure you that in the finest traditions of Scotland Yard these detectives have done their utmost to bring justice for the victims of this callous crime. Reporter it has been embarrassing for the police because they didnt respond in the appropriate way initially. I think they would even accept that but theyre really responding now with 200 Police Officers involved in the raids. Searches are continuing. We dont know if they found all of the jewels yet. Only the highvalue items have been found. So theyre taking it seriously now if they didnt to start with chris. Very fascinating because of the age. And we always kind of enjoy jewel heists. It is like a movie plot. If theyre so old does that mean they are of the age of knowing better . Yes. You know the commercials im in the age of knowing. They hit home a little bit. Wow. What a story. After nearly a month of not fielding questions from the press, Hillary Clinton was confronted yesterday. Listen to her response when a reporter asked if she would break the silence. Maybe when i finish talking to the people here. Hows that . I might. Ill have to ponder it. I will put it on my list. For due consideration. Shes pondering it. Lets bring in editor and chief from the daily beast and political analyst jon avlon and political consultant and Margaret Hoover. Hi guys. Good morning. What was this cat and mouse game of the past month of not talking to reporters . Calculation talking to reporters will cause more problems than it solves but its simply not sustainable if youre running for president. A, it further poisons relationships with the press and you look like you got something to hide and that strategy which a lot of politicians are doingin creasingly saying well bypass media entirely. Where is your outrage, Margaret Hoover and you among the media who are letting Hillary Clinton just not answer questions. You would never do this if one of the republicans was doing this. Im not going to answer questions right now, im talking to people. Youd be on them like its really hard to answer hypothetical questions, chris, because there are so many people on the republican side fielding questions every single day we can hardly cover all their answers. Backdrop Hillary Clinton, one candidate, no questions. Communist election . I mean its like literally dont go there. It does seem shes being chased about things. Its no question. Were going to get into the particulars. But it does seem its a little bit of light treatment for not answering questions. Look i think, you know play offense on this stuff by the way this is something you increasingly see gubernatorial candidates doing, boycotting papers and this is at the president ial level. You can get with the calculations riegs . Why arent we hounding her more . I think we should. I think we are. I think weve been stating as a matter of fact shes not taking any questions. The Washington Post has 40 40,150 minutes. All of us are counting. Shes getting hammered its hard to get through the noise. The press needs to start boycotting the candidate as well to change the equation. But its difficult when you have one person running whos strike thatting like a clos sas the issue of her emails came up. And when those would be released here was her response to that. I have said repeatedly i want those emails out. Nobody has a bigger interest in getting them released than i do. I respect the state department. They have their process that they do for everybody not just for me. But anything that they might do to expedite that process i heartily support. Okay. So she says shes calling on the state department to release them as soon as possible. Why is that funfy . Well its funny because obviously this is a problem of her own creation. So the idea that, you know, shes just been asking for expe diagnosis digs doesnt, but shes right to this extent. Thats right as the caucuses get started and the primary goes in. Why doesnt she send them in on hard paper . Apparently the server is an empty cupboard now. Thats exactly right. Thats exactly right. Of course. But its tough to ring that bell. This isnt exactly Straight Talk express here. Old school reference. Im about the old school references. What about those Sid Blumenthal comments . Does she have to release those . If those are private . If you are the secretary of state and the federal government says that your business is the peoples business you know i know were skating between the gray lines but in my view when i was a Government Employee every email i sent had to be on a a. Gov server. So of course all that the business she conducted as secretary of state is relevant to the people of the United States. This notion that she can keep them private and be the arbiter. Shes a bit sloppy of protocol. A beneficiary of not doing it well there. You said the word hard to say but foiaable, lets talk about that. You have within different agencies people who do nothing but assess foia requests and whether or not you want to give them or dont give them. But is it fair criticism john avlon that they were unduly scrutinizing sperveg to friends involved with the Keystone Pipeline et cetera. That appears to be the case. The wall street journal shows a lot of foia were going to her chief of staff. Thats somebody basically acting as gate keeper for Hillary Clinton and thinking about personal and political implications not just the due process. Do you believe sheryl mills is the type running things there on the clinton global initiatives board, do you think she said if you dont help me im not going to go forward. I will not speculate on her character. You must. But i will not. Your wife will. People that are incredibly protective and not unusual. Very common dynamic. Also the weightiness of somebody whos representing the secretary in an entire entity an entire department where there are two people in charge of who are probably lower level, you know career employees who are in charge of going through 20,000plus foia documents, chief of staff comes down representing the secretary says by the way doesnt say for political reasons you cant release this. She says were reviewing it now. So there are words that they use in order to protect them from being released. Against the political weight of the chief of staff of secretary of state. Very quickly, every candidate has been asked in some form or another if the iraq war was a mistake. Hillary says my vote for it was a mistake plain and simple. Its elegant clear, clean, it takes accountability. It also puts the issue behind her as opposed to these tortured back and forth depends on perspective, her answer was really clean. She has the best defense for her answer. You lie today me. You gave me Bad Information so i made a bad decision. Everybody can say the thing is her position probably isnt that different from where jeb bush ended up what marco rubio said but her answer was crisp and clear and in contrast with the tortured responses of the republicans looks better. The next question is going to be in retrospect was the draw down of residual forces a mistake. Thats a good question. Were going to ask them that. Lets do that. John margaret. Thanks so much. Heres the clock you were referring to of oh no this is the election countdown. She has spoken more recently than 537 days. Thats the election countdown. We had better get going. We only have 537 days left. Giddy up, people. Numbers are racing by dizzying pace. Whats your take . Tweet us or post your comment on facebook. Michaela. All right, alisyn. We are going to take a closer look at the waco blood bath between rival biker gangs. Is there a growing criminal threat from gangs around the country . Were going to dig deeper with someone who spent a whole lot of time with a notorious texas gang next. Making a fist something we do to show resolve. To defend ourselves. To declare victory. So cvs Health Provides expert support and vital medicines. At our Infusion Centers or in patients homes. We help them fight the good fight. Cvs health, because health is everything. Law enforcement on heightened alert after concerns grow over rival biker gangs in waco texas. The weekends shootout sparking a National Conversation over the threat of biker gang violence. Joining us is skip hollensworth he spent a whole lot of time with one of the notorious biker groups the bandidos and has some insight for us into the culture of that club and biker gangs in general. Skip your article was fantastic. Its a really compelling read. I hope a lot of people get a chance to see it. First of all, i guess we got to talk about perception and reality. Are these bikers gangs or clubs, however you want to typify them is it just a bunch of dudes riding around on hogs and leather with their pals . Or is there something more sinister to them . Well its both. And the fact that they are called terrorist organizations, you know organized criminal complicated organizations is a little extreme. But they do there are plenty of bikers in certain gangs and in certain clubs who will commit crimes. Now, the big question is whether this whole operation is a criminal enterprise from the top down. What is your sense . I dont think so. I mean if you look at the people that were arrested for this shooting the other day. Uhhuh. They dont have these elaborate criminal records. Theyve got dwis, stolen motorcycles, burglarized someones car. Got drunk at a bar and got into a fight. Theyre not sophisticated in the way we think of the families up in new york the crime families up in new york. Right, right. Is there a distinction between a Motorcycle Club and a motorcycle gang . Well the gang word is put on by Law Enforcement agencies. Okay. That want to categorize these clubs as just trying to create crime. What i learned about the bandidos during my time with them was that sure theres members that commit crimes and sure maybe they commit crimes to pay their dues but these are not wealthy men. They are not men that are out to terrorize and rape and blunder towns. But they are men that feel this strange perplexing sense of loyalty to their club. What is that about . You got a sense of it. And your article talks about it this loyalty, this brotherhood. Is there some sort of biker code . There definitely is a code. And what happens with these guys is they get into the group, they get into the club and they are ordered to pledge loyalty to their club just above anything else. And for a lot of these men this is a great kind of place for some kind of brotherhood. In weird ways they are a lot you know, you see this happen across american society. The lions club are men that wear vests that go to weekly meetings they have a clubhouse. These guys are the same kind have the same kind of drive except they love to be renegades. I mean theyre hardly lions club members. I was going to say golf Club Membership et cetera there is something about a brotherhood. We know that men can bond in that way. And these men bond over their shared love of sort of motorcycles and getting out on the open road. Probably born out of the easy rider. You talk about that in your article as well. One of the things that we found so unusual about this situation in waco though was so much of this world sort of operates out of the public eye. I mean of course they turn heads when they roar by a group on their harleys. But this was a massively huge public spectacle taking the lives of eight or nine and dozens 170 people arrested. This was a very visible spectacle. What happened here . Was it just territorial as it sounds like it was . It was a fight between two clubs, the bandidos and an upstart club called the cossacks cossacks. The cossacks have been around for a long time but theyve filled themselves up with new young members who have said were not going to let the big bad boys of Motorcycle Clubs, the bandidos, boss us around. What the bandidos tend to do with other clubs in the state is you cant wear a patch on the back of your vest that says texas. And you have to pay the bandidos dues to wear your colors as you drive up and down the highways. To outsiders like us it might seem silly to have fights like this. But to these groups its very vital that they are considered that they are given respect. And the bandidos felt like the cossacks were coming after them. And they said were going to have no more of it. And the cossacks showed up at this restaurant in waco. And they decided to do a confrontation. And the shootout began. And thats what happened. Skip hollandsworth, i appreciate your insight. I tell you a middleaged gal with a metro car does not understand this. So your insight and research and article has shed a lot of light on it. Thanks for joining us on new day. Thanks a lot. Were following a whole lot of news. Lets get right to it. The larges auto recall in u. S. History, 34 million vehicles almost a dozen car companies. The best thing customer ks do right now is to reach out to their dealership. The wall street journal reporting that when clinton was secretary of state her staff scrutinized, sometimes even blocked the release of politically sensitive documents. I want those emails out. Isis is moving ahead in places far beyond iraq and syria. The president s plan is it working . The fall of ramadi is a big deal. Youve been heavily criticized for doing what you just did. These are incredibly majestic creatures. This is new day with chris cuomo, Alisyn Camerota and michaela pereira. Morning everyone. Welcome back to your new day. Exploding airbags forcing the largest auto recall in u. S. History. The airbags from japanese supplier takata effecting 34 million cars thats one in seven cars here in the u. S. Of course the big question is is your car one of those. Well tell you how you can figure it out and also how long it will take to get these airbags replaced. That number of time is going to be troubling to you. Officials arent even close to figuring out whats causing the problems. Lets get to cnns tom foreman live in washington. What do we know about how long this will take and whether or not my car is one of them . Airbags explode at a rate of about 250 miles an hour. This is going to be a lot, lot slower than that as the entire Auto Industry tries to grapple with what is truly lethal problem. This is what the trouble is all about, airbags exploding firing metal shards into passengers with so much force police say some victims look like theyve been shot. Thats allegedly what happened to cory burdic. His lawyer says when he had a minor accident in florida the airbag should have protected him. Instead it exploded and sent a three and a half inch piece of steel into his face taking out one of his eyes. Reporter now federal authorities are saying enough. Launching a recall of 34 million cars nearly double the original number thought to be involved. The airbag inflaters we suspected did not work correctly. And we believe they have been responsible for at least five deaths in the United States. Reporter the airbag manufacturer is the Japanese Company takata. And for months the company tried to limit the recall saying the problem was appearing only in areas with high humidity. The government didnt buy it. Pounding takata with more than 1 million in fines. Up until now takata has refused to acknowledge that their airbags are defective. That changes today. Reporter the most serious accidents have occurred in hondas. But the recall also involves fords, chryslers, mazdas bmws. In all 11 manufacturers and parts suppliers. And there could be more. How long is this going to take . Nobody knows that yet. There is no question it could be some years. Reporter the manufacturer issued a statement saying it remains committed to consumer safety but like the government it does not yet know why the airbags are exploding. Although takata has devoted tremendous resources to these efforts with some of the leading researchers, it is clear this is a complex issue which takes time to fully evaluate. Im hearing that it may take up to a year for all the Replacement Parts to even be in place. But to your second question chris, how do you know if your car is involved go to the website safercar. Gov. There you can put in your vehicle Identification Number the v. I. N. Number. And that will tell you whether or not your car is involved. But i do want to repeat what i said earlier today. You may have to go back more than once. I did this last night. And even warned you at the end to say this is an ongoing story. Its developing. You may find your cars not on the list today, maybe tomorrow it will be. So this is going to be a problem thats going to be with us quite a while on the road during our commute, chris. Headline tom foreman has difficulty finding his lambo on site. Lets bring in mary schiavo, you understand these issues well. For all that complex according to takata two things need to be addressed. First, mary isnt it true this recall is as big as it is because this company was fighting it for so long . Absolutely. Because it was fighting it for so long and i think the media gets some credit because there was information that kamg out not only they were fighting it but they may have known this back in 2004 and ordered the tests that showed they were defective and the evidence destroyed. Now, thats debated. They say thats not true and its debated. But that was an important turning point too. Does the government not have enough teeth . Were they slow . Were they too accommodative . Why didnt they get this out there sooner . Well i think they were too accommodating. In fact i think that the gm ignition recall probably kicked this one, the takata airbag recall into high gear because ntsha was under tremendous criticism for giving the manufacturers too much time puny fines and not getting tough. Also the state lines here they said were going to do the airbag recall in these states and not others it made no sense. Cars dont respect state lines. They cross them. So that made no sense either. Another thing that needs to be exposed here is this in part true because of the consolidation of suppliers . As bigger businesses gobble up smaller ones youre having fewer and fewer people make these parts. And is that a precarious situation . It is. And takata was such a huge supplier. And, you know, theres a term applyied to japanese automakers and they use certain suppliers and they have a relied supplier and go back to that supplier and pretty soon that supplier has a huge part of the market. And now were in the situation where takata cannot manufacture enough airbags to meet this recall. And for example on the ntsha you see useless information such as dont drive that vehicle or disconnect your airbag. Well, most people cant do that. They cant just park their vehicle or disconnect their airbag. We cant stop the consolidation of business but we can check what they say. There is an adage in the law that when you are troubled by the specific go to the general. They say humidity may be the cause and that covers whats going on with all these different vehicles and types that theyre putting the bags in. Do you buy it . Well to a certain degree yes. Because what happened was it was the moisture in their axelk accelerant basically explodes out and it was moisture that degraded that. Thats a very logical explanation, one that many people say they had back in 2004. So that makes sense except as we all know moisture is in all 50 states. So limiting it to florida and georgia, that made no sense. And thats another reason why its nationwide. So the troubling question for people they want to find out if their cars on there, they also want to know more specifically if the bags going to blow up in their face and shards of metal are going to enter them. Mary schiavo, what do we do keep the schiavo visage as beautiful as it is . What i would do and were facing this one of our vehicles the v. I. N. Number doesnt come up yet but ive instructed my daughter to take her vehicle immediately this morning to the dealership because remember the dealers and the manufacturers, honda and some of the others then started issuing their own recalls when takata wouldnt act. Get your car to the dealership. If the dealership says youre not on the list or we dont have the airbags or parts, you have added another responsible party. So i just wouldnt rely on the website because takata itself has admitted they dont really know where all these airbags are. And they cant tell you for sure whether or not you have one. Best thing take it back to the manufacturers dealer rep, the official one, and also because they dont track how many times a cars been sold you may never get a notice and have a bad airbag. Even though the chances are very small that the bag will be defective, it can happen at low speed crashes and things like that. Its better just to be safe. And it is troubling that takata doesnt know where the bags are exactly which speaks to the problem of big businesses buying up all the smaller producers. When were talking about takata what is the right remedy here . When you have a problem you hope it gets better the next time. Do you see that in a situation like this . Well this one is particularly troubling again because how long it took them to respond. And because of the reports, again they dispute them but because of the reports they knew so many years ago, over a decade ago and then hid and destroyed evidence i think probably the best remedy overall is going to be coming out congress had hearings and they actually ordered the Justice Department to start a criminal investigation. When i was i. G. I found that an effective tool for particularly blij rant perpetrators. If you wont respond to the Civic Responsibility to keep people safe i think that the threat of this criminal investigation this is very important because thats part and parcel what we do. We prosecute people whove done something criminal. And i think the opening of the criminal investigation is also going to be very important. And if they do find intentional wrongdoing and false statements to the government 18 United States code section 10001, really easy to prosecute, i think that should be applied if appropriate and if theres probable cause to go forward. Were talking about takata big names involved bmw, chrysler diamler, honda mazda mitsubishi big names out there, could be any of them. Please do your due dilligence and go to the dealer. Mary schiavo, thank you so much. If you think your car might be on the list check any way, go to safercar. Gov rs takata. Thats complicated. Well put it on the website for you. But remember dealers have to replace the airbags for free as parts become available. That last part will be the trick for you. Alisyn. I will be checking that website momentarily. Meanwhile we have breaking International News overnight. More threats from north korea. This time its about its nuclear arsenal. Pyongyangs National Defense commission saying the country is close to placing a Nuclear Warhead on a missile which could be launched towards the United States. Cnns will ripley has more from tokyo. What do we know will . Reporter well, this is of course north koreas latest effort to step up the military rhetoric rhetoric that was in full swing when i was on the ground there just a couple weeks ago, alisyn. Thats when north korea claimed they had launched and test fired a Ballistic Missile from a submarine. Of course later some of the photos they released turned out to be doctored. Theres no disputing the fact north korea is investing a considerable amount of money in their Nuclear Program. They claim they have a Ballistic Missile capable of striking the United States. A top official told me that and now brand new theyre also saying they have the technology to miniaturize Nuclear Weapons, to make them small enough to put them in one of those missiles and fire at their number one enemy the u. S. Also in danger india, south korea, all the regional allies here that have to watch north koreas every move with great caution. North korea also apparently isolating itself abruptly canceling a visit by the u. N. Secretary general it would have been the first in more than 20 years but its not happening anymore. North korea instead threatening more military development in their Nuclear Program, alisyn. I dont have to tell you that north korea is famous for wild claims and saber rattling how do we know if this one is true . Reporter well the United States and the pentagon was talking last month they believe north yee korea has technology to miniaturize Nuclear Weapons. This is a country spending a tremendous amount of money, more money than theyre spending to feed their own people spending on developing their military specifically their Nuclear Program. Its not going away. Its an unstable regime unpredictable and very troubling to the global community, alisyn. Okay will thanks so much for all of that information. Michaela. We turn now to iraq where isis is tightening its grip on ramadi and now pushing east. Top Iraqi Government officials are hoping to stop the terror groups advance by moving in even more fighters into the area. Senior International Correspondent arwa damon is tracking the latest developments for us. Shes in ahman, jordan. Reporter officials in ramadi and the Security Forces that were trying to fight isis warning as far back as november that without additional reinforcements the city would fall and it did. Unable to stand up against relentless wave after wave of isis suicide bombers. And isis now seems to be constant enough in its grip over ramadi that ss it is pushing farther east targeting various towns the Iraqi Government says it has been able to defend so far. But the government is really crippled by a lack of capable fighting forces within its own ranks calling on more shia paramilitary units to join the battle. The u. S. Also forced at this stage to revise its socalled strategy that thus far has comprised of yes, some air strikes. None of which have really stopped the advance of isis. And also an attempt to retrain and rearm, restructure the Iraqi Security forces. The u. S. Also saying it is going to be expediting weapons shipments to iraq. But all of this is really coming too late. The Iraqi Government is going to be bogged down for an extensive period of time in various front lines to try to prevent the terrorist organization from approaching the capital baghdad and potentially threatening it. Back to you. All right. Arwa thank you very much. Were going to turn to Hillary Clinton now because shes doing something she hasnt done for nearly a month. You know what that is . Talking to us. The former secretary of state took a sparse five minutes worth of questions during a Campaign Stop in iowa. So lets bring in cnn senior washington correspondent jeff zellen traveling. Is it true she said ive missed you the way the desert missed the rain . Chris, she said exactly that to me and it was very genuine. No she took five questions. All this criticism has been dogging her for the last month or so and it finally built up so much they thought they had to address some of these questions because they were threatening to overshadow her campaign message. But she focused on the release of those emails, some 55,000 pages of emails weve been talking about for so long. And she said she would like to see them released as soon as possible. Of course this state department is now saying that they may need until january. She actually said thats not soon enough. Lets take a listen. I have said repeatedly i want those emails out. Nobody has a bigger interest in getting them released than i do. I respect the state department. They have their process that they do for everybody not just for me. But anything that they might do to expedite that process i heartily support. And one of the reasons of course she heartily supports it is because this issue is going to follow her throughout the campaign. But its important to keep in mind here that her staff and she hand picked all these emails that will be released here. So she would like to get this out of the way, not likely to happen. And a new report in the wall street journal this morning raises even more questins about the transparency at her state department. The report says that some of her top aides were actually slow walking the release of some other public records requests. So thats one more example that this transparency questions are going to follow her throughout the rest of the campaign. Alisyn. And reporters will follow her as well trying to ask those. Jeff thanks so much for that. Well theres an uneasy calm in waco texas this morning. Just days after that brawl between rival biker gangs left nine people dead. At least 170 are in custody. The ft. Worth star telegram reporting one of the gangs, the cossacks has agreed to a Police Request to cancel their annual rally this coming weekend. And that would have brought as many as 400 more bikers to the area. More tension in the waters off yemen. An iranian ship is threatening to dock there in yemen before being inspected as required by the u. N. It is believed that the ship is carrying humanitarian relief. No intelligence suggests that weapons are aboard. But the u. S. Does not want the iranians to break a saudiled naval blockade. The u. S. Is said to be in Backchannel Communications to get iran to comply with u. N. Guidelines. David letterman signs off for the last time tonight. That will be three decades in late night for him. The second to last episode featured bill murray who popped out of a goodbye cake. Of course he did. Murray was daves first guest and has been on with him more than 40 times. The pair chugged vodka before murray got about as serious as he ever gets. I know that youve had the heads of government here bill clinton was here George Clooney was here various he was here for a long time. Youre here. Im here. Everyones trying to get you to stay. We want you to stay. And not give up. We just want more dave. Just more. More. We do dave. We just want more. Awe, that was heartfelt. An end of an era. I know. Three eras i guess youre tearing up. I am. I mean its you know. Hes doing what we all hope to be able to do in this business which is go out on top. Hes been here a long time. Hes set a standard and hes getting to go out the way he wants. And the reports are hes really tried to avoid the sentimentality of this. Too bad. His guests keep injecting it. But only three like it could have been like a yearlong goodbye. Yeah. I cant wait to watch tonight. Me too. Well its past our bedtime. Im going to tape it. Meanwhile after the fall of ramadi president obamas strategy coming under fire. What can the u. S. Do to stop the terrorist advance in iraq . And a new report is raising more questions about Hillary Clintons transparency. What does it mean for her campaign . Well tell you the report and dig, dig, dig on inside politics. Ive smoked a lot and quit a lot but ended up nowhere. Now i use this. The nicoderm cq patch, with unique extended release Technology Helps prevent the urge to smoke all day. So if i can go for Something Better than warfarin. I will. Eliquis. Eliquis. Reduced the risk of stroke better than warfarin plus it had less major bleeding than warfarin. Eliquis had both. That really mattered to me. Dont stop taking eliquis unless your doctor tells you to, as stopping increases your risk of having a stroke. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. While taking eliquis you may bruise more easily and it may take longer than usual for any bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. I accept that im not as fast, but im still going for my personal best. And for eliquis. Reduced risk of stroke. Plus less major bleeding. Ask your doctor. If eliquis is right for you. Are we going to light our hair on fire every time theres a setback in the campaign against isil . We know that hope is not a strategy. The president s plan isnt working. All right. Well thats the debate raging in washington over the u. S. Strategy on fighting isis after the fall of ramadi. Is the strategy working or not . Lets turn to phillip mudd former cia counterterrorism official. Good to see you. Good morning. Is the strategy against isis working or failing . I dont think we can say its working. We just lost ramadi. Remember last summer and last fall we were talking about the Rapid Advances of isis. Those advances have slowed. The governments had i would say modest success. Remember they took tikrit the kurds have had some success. I think though were missing a basic question here. There are conversation we can have around the margins, whether we have an independent avenue of arms going to the kurds for example. Whether we have Forward Deployed spotters for the military attacks that the u. S. Is taking in support of iraqi ground operations. The fundamental question they hear though is pretty basic and that is in insurgencies if the home team that is the Iraqi Military cant win the game the away team over the course of time cant win it for them. Were trying to pretend like theres some secret solution here that would allow us to sort of substitute for the iraqis somehow. If they dont want to bring it to isis i dont think we can change the scenario to implement a strategy its a lot different. So what does that mean . How do the iraqis get ramadi back or do they give up . I dont think they give up. Were focusing on half of the puzzle that is the military half. If youre liking at insurgencies the way you kill insurgents tharks is isis drain the swamp where they swim. Right now that swamp is occupied in Anbar Province by sunnis. Weve talked repeatedly about the fact we have successive iraqi shia leadership that is not bringing in either the kurds or the sunnis. The solution here will not be what are the military strategy is better the solution will be whether the iraqi leadership figures out a way to give up some power to sunnis. We saw the iranian shia defense minister fly into baghdad this week. Thats another signal to me that one reason the Iraqi Military wont prevail soon is the government hasnt gotten the message they cant be all shia all the time. I sat down with president ial hopeful rand paul this week. And he talked about how he believes that the fight against isis must be waged on the ground between the iraqis and the kurds fighting them. Listen to a piece of his strategy. The kurds are good fighters. I would go one step further. I would arm the kurds. And i would also offer them a homeland. If you will fight and if you will fight to keep people out and to push out these ma rodders, i would give you a homeland. Is that a powerful enough inducement . Youre looking at 18 months of headaches if you want philip mudd commenting i mean the strategy which you are good at. Quick comment, look iraq has three basic segments. You have roughly and there hasnt been a census in forever. Roughly twothirds shia. The rest divided between sunnis and kurds. Kurds have held territory well up north. They cant be the deciding factor against the sunni isis operation. Couple things on comments by senator paul if the question is hey, the iraqi leadership hasnt prevailed, they havent been very effective should we have an independent avenue of weapons to the kurds . I would say thats one way of telling the iraqi leadership if youre not going to play, well force you to play. The second question i disagree with take a step further and give the kurds independence we already broke eggs and made iranian omelet i dont get that. Unintended consequences if you give the kurds independence is hard to predict. No to independence yes to weapons. We see consequences all over that region, but meanwhile heres what the iraqi Prime Minister said yesterday in terms of what he believes will help win. Hes calling for voluntary recruitment to add new forces in the army especially in the squads which have shortages in the number including the seventh squad in the west of anbar in addition to terminating the contracts of escapees. What does that mean . One of the problems the military is facing and the governments facing is when you look at the offense of up in ramadi youre talking about the inclusion of shia militias i was talking about earlier draining the swamp and eliminating local support. The local support is sunnis. As soon as you bring in shia militias if youre a sunni villager here the shia coming again and military is not an inclusive representative body of the government. I think the governments trying to say maybe theres another way to recruit people in thats more inclusive. But the message by sending shia militias, were a divided country and going to remain divided. That cant win. Its all so complicated, phil mudd. No its not. Well not for you but sounds complicated in terms of the answer. Take care. Over to michaela. All right. Hillary clinton finally taking questions from the media. She has plenty to say about those emails on a private server from her days as secretary of state. Well take a look at all of that inside politics. Frds hey, what are you doing . You said you were going to find out about plenti, the new rewards program. I did. The largest auto recall ever in the United States now underway thanks to embattled airbag maker takata. 34 million cars being recalled. Nearly doubling the previous number. The airbags have turned deadly with shrapnel flying into the faces of drivers, even passengers. Cars from 11 automakers are impacted. Take a look on your screen. Still no word from takata on how it plans to fix that problem. To iraq where isis is tightening its grip on ramadi and now pressing east. Iraqi government officials are planning to move even more fighters into Anbar Province as a result. Hopefully to stop isis. Those fighters will be mainly shia. The problem with that is it may be exactly what isis wants because it could inflame sectarian tensions. Anbar is largely sunni. And the hunt resuming this morning for the person who torched a washington, d. C. Mansion killing four people inside. Investigators now reviewing new video showing the victims porsche burning in the parking lot of a maryland church. Youre seeing it there. Police are looking for a person of interest seen racing away from the house last thursday wearing a hoody and carrying a large white object. With all due respect to mr. Fitness over here check out the first lady giving him and the president even a run for their money in her new give me 5 video. Jumping rope. Working the medicine ball. Shes lifting weights. Even boxing. The first lady shows what she is made of. She was responding to the president s own video which took a bit of a softer approach here take a nice light jog with the Vice President sipping some water. The challenge is part of the first ladys lets move campaign. I think im allowed to say this in cable, shes bad wow. I think so too. Those are some moves. Respect . Yeah do you do those . Do you jump on the bench . I respect everything shes doing trying to get people to move more. And be into fitness. The country needs it badly. What about the moves . Shes obviously very strong and works out. Do you do those moves . I dont do most of those moves. Im big in resistance i believe in weights but as long as youre doing anything youre good and she looks strong and fit. And thats a good image to have. Inside politics speaking of strong and fit, not john king Gloria Borger will lead the way. I dont get people to move. I get people to talk. Okay. Thats all i get people to do. We got a lot to talk about today, chris. Largely involving Hillary Clinton who finally spoke herself. Shes been on the campaign trail for 28 days. She finally spoke to reporters. Weve got two reporters with us today, two of the best. Jonathan martin of new york times, jackie kossinich of the daily beast. Lets talk about hillary emails first. We learned from the state Department Yesterday that it was going to take a year to release them january 2016 to be exact. Then a judge ruled very very quickly, huhuh the state Department Needs to start releasing them on a rolling basis. For her part Hillary Clinton says i want them all out there as soon as possible take a listen. I have said publicly im repeating it here in front of all of you today, i want them out as soon as they can get out. But will you demand it . Well theyre not mine. They belong to the state department. Well what does it do for her . If these things get released in batches, is that just a drip drip drip of targets . Yeah. Its better for her to get them out all in one fell swoop. The sooner the better. You know its going to be a story perhaps a couple of stories, but the idea of these things being put out as you put it gloria on a rolling basis for the next however many months is a political prospect that is not too ap thinkized. Its not great to have them released all swuns in january in 2016 right before the caucuses. Better earlier. But the drip drip isnt going to help either. I have a basic question which is does the public care about this email story at all . Hillary clinton remains usually popular in the democratic party. Her favorability has dropped a little bit, but you would expect out of somebody who goes from secretary of state to being a political candidate. So the public seems to be shrugging its shoulders at this. I think theres a certain amount of baked in if you will assumptions about politicians generally and about the clintons. And i think that that works in their favor. I will say though that if youve got a sort of succession of stories about the emails, about the content thats in there and questions about impropriety or at least about appearances, thats the kientd of thing that eventually could take its toll further on her approval rating. And thats the danger here. What is so striking is republicans have focused almost entirely on character here. You know their campaign against her in the first couple months is almost wholly focused on character and ethics. The trust question is important. Its something voters cast their vote upon if they can trust this person if theyre going to execute the office in a way they think is all right. Transparency is also an issue. The wall street journal has a story today questioning the transparency at the state department making the case effectively that the at the very top levels of the state department including Hillary Clintons chief of staff were slow walking a lot of these requests that were made for documents. Does this story tell us anything jackie about the way the clinton world operates . I think it just reemphasizes how the clinton world operates. There is this thought that they are very enclosed they operate outside of what the normal person would have to operate in. And this just re its that narrative again. Let me play devils advocate here. Staffers always protect their bosses particularly in government but also everywhere else. Arent these just careful staffers protecting the secretary of state . Sure. And i think on its face one story in the may 2015 the wall street journal about a chief of staff sort of picking what to release and whatnot to release is hardly fatal politically. But its the accumulation of those stories over a period of the next 15 months that could be challenging to her. Which is why back to our point its bet tore get it out now at least sooner than later. She also answered some questions yesterday about Sidney Blumenthal another former staffer who worked at the white house back in the day who was communicating with her about libya. Right. He had some business interests in libya. And she said i thought it was kind of interesting what she said. Lets listen to that. I have many many old friends. And i always think that its important when you get into politics to have friends you had before you were in politics. And to understand whats on their minds. And hes been a friend of mine for a long time. Hes sent me unsolicited emails which i passed on in some instances. And i see thats part of the give and take. When youre in the public eye and when youre in an official position i think you do have to work to make sure youre not caught in a bubble and you only hear from a certain small group of people. And im going to keep talking to my old friends whoever they are. So rich where to start . Where to start . The pope mobile they are in the bubble. Thats the whole issue with the clintons. Right. Well unsolicited emails, which means i didnt ask passed on in some instances. But she passed along to top staffers. She did. And a great story my colleague got some of those emails where shes passing along to some high level diplomats to say take a look at this. I joked yesterday, clinton theeologists those who have been fascinated by this family for decades are going to take that response and examine it meticulously. And she knows it. Sid blumenthal she says is a friend from before politics as though hes some kind of high school chum. You know gloria somebody partisan. Right. Who has been linked to the clintons because of their political rise. Its a fascinating also hear the old friend quote coming back over and over again. If something happens with wuchb ore h old friends. Everybodys been an old friend when youre in politics for 30 years. Quickly ive got to get to an issue on trade. Because Hillary Clinton again was asked about trade yesterday. She said ive been very clear on this and then went onto sort of parse it. And Elizabeth Warren came out and said you know what she needs to come down somewhere on this trade issue. Either youre with the president or youre with Elizabeth Warren. What do you think . I think she is not going to go on a limb for a bill that may not even get out of the house. Why would she spend any kind of capital, gloria when that bill is having a hard time moving from the senate. Forget the house, the senate on free trade. So buy some time if the house does move it you got to find a stance. But wait until the house actually passes it. Maybe thats what shes doing. Thats exactly what shes doing because Hillary Clinton is not new to politics in washington. Back to you, alisyn. No that is a true statement, gloria. Youre so right. She has been around the block in washington certainly. Great to see you. Thanks so much. Thanks. Heres a story you should see. A texas hunter bids 350,000 to kill an endangered black rhino in africa but he insists hes trying to help them survive. Cnns cameras are there as he tracks down that rare rhino. Stick around. So cvs health is creating industryleading programs and tools that help people stay on medicines as their doctors prescribed. It could help save tens of thousands of lives every year. And that would be something worth shouting about. Cvs health, because health is everything. A big game hunters from texas granted exclusive to cnn while on a hunt in africa. That hunter invited cnn along this hunt that he says was designed to help save the species. Cnns ed lavandera was there. He joins us live. Ed. Reporter good morning, michaela. The idea of killing an animal to save the species might be very hard for a lot of people to understand but it does have the support of many prominent wildlife organizations across the world including the u. S. Fish and wildlife and the World Wildlife fund. Thats exactly why cory nolton wants the world to see why this hunt went down. Three days of hunting a black rhino through the unforgiving desert brush of northern nibia ended here. [ gunfire ] and cory nulton has no regrets. Im pretty emotional right now to be honest. Reporter youve been heavily criticized for doing what you just did. Yeah. Reporter do you still feel like what you did is going to benefit the black rhino . 100 . 100 . I felt like from day one it was benefitting the black rhino. And ill feel like that until, you know the day i die. Reporter nolton granted cnn exclusive access into this controversial hunt for the black rhino, one of the most endangered species in the world. He won an auction to hunt the rhino last year. Some people think what youre doing is barbaric and you dont care about this black rhino. Nobody in this situation with this particular black rhino put more value on it than i did. Im absolutely hell bent on protecting this animal. Reporter noltons received Death Threats and scathing criticism. Some Animal Welfare groups call conservation hunting a horrific idea. These are incredibly majestic creatures and their worth alive is far more than its far greater than they are dead. Reporter the biggest threats to the black rhino are poachers and often the rhinos themselves. Im cory. Nice to meet you. Reporter hes told by government observers considered a high priority threat to the herd thats the story of this rhino spotted by cameras at a watering hole just before sunrise. Last year it killed another rhino in a gruesome fight. The hunt begins. The african brush is dense. Hell have a split second to decide whether to pull the trigger. It would be a catastrophic mistake for corey if he were to shoot the wrong rhino one not on the list of eligible rhinos to be taken out of the herd. Reporter local trackers pick up the rhinos footsteps and walk deeper into the brush. This was the angry one thats already killed another bull. So hes likely just going to get up and come. So we need to be ready. Reporter silence is crucial. Trackers direct nolton and his hunting guide with hand signals. We get closer. And in an instant the rhino flashes before us. The rhino moves around us but hes invisible, silent. A nearly 3,000pound beast that can move like a ghost in the brush until he decides to charge. We dont see him until hes 30 feet away. Charging right at us. And i have to dive below noltons highpowered rifle. [ gunfire ] a short while later the rhino is dead. As we sit here at this moment and take it all in and we think about what the biggest threat to these rhinos are around the world that its poachers people who will kill these animals and leave them to rot in these fields of africa just for this horn. These horns that you see here will sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars on the black market. Cory knows this isnt easy to watch, but he vows to take the abuse of his critics to convince the world that conservation hunting can help save the black rhino. And, michaela the government started issuing these permits back in 2009. Since then only seven of them have been issued. So seven rhinos killed legally through this hunting program. Compare that to last year 24 rhinos were killed in this country by poachers. And that number has skyrocketed this year. So far in the first five months 60 rhinos according to the government have already been poached here in this country. Ed the thing so many of us are struggling with is why not spend the 350,000 that he spent to have a right to kill that rhino to put towards the conservation efforts of those agencies you spoke about at the top of your piece. Reporter well the reason he does this especially here in the country of nimibia is he says theres also a scientific reason for doing this. The one rhino he killed as we mentioned in the piece killed another rhino last year in that area where those rhinos are the government has three male rhinos. So theres no chance of reproduction. And that one black male rhino that was killed by cory was keeping the government from bringing other females into that area to increase the chance of reproduction. That can now begin. That process begin. And its something the government is considering, michaela. Ed lavandera, what a story. We want to put it to you. You probably have all sorts of thoughts. Use newdaycnn. That is sure to get a lot of people fired up today. Oh, my gosh that was an incredible piece. And how dangerous it is. Conservation hunting. Wow. Wed love to hear your thoughts on all that. Meet chris jackie joe. Minor damage or major disaster, when you need us most, were there. State farm. Were a force of nature, too. The largest auto recall in u. S. History. 34 million vehicles almost a dozen car companies. Takata has refused to acknowledge that their airbags are defective. That changes today. Hope is not a strategy. Are we going to light our hair on fire every time there is a setback against isil . I have said repeatedly i want the emails out. Did Hillary Clinton staff block the release of sensitive documents when she was secretary of state . She cant run for president and not answer questions. David letterman signs off for the last time tonight. This is new day, with chriss Alisyn Camerota and michaela pereira. And its may 20th 2015. The biggest recall in history. What can takata do today to reduce the threat of drivers and passengers and how long will it take to fix 34 million vehicles . And tom foreman begins our coverage from washington. This is one of the things where you hear about recalls all the time, and you think its not me. And this is one of the odds suggesting you have a fair chance of being involved and the problem is genuinely serious. This is what the trouble is all about. Airbags exploding, firing metal shards into passengers with such force passengers look like they have been shot. When a minor accident in florida, the air bag should have protected. Instead it sent a 3. 5inch steel shard in his face. The air bag inflaters, we suspected, did not work krebgly and they have been responsible for five deaths in the United States. The air bag manufacturer in the Japanese Company, takata. For months the company tried to limit the recall saying the problem was appearing only in areas with high humidity and the government didnt buy it pounding takata with more than 1 million in fines. Up until now takata has refused to acknowledge that their airbags are defective, and that changes today. The most serious accidents have occurred in hondas but in all 11 manufacturers in parts suppliers and there could be more. How long is it going to take . Nobody knows that yet. There is no question it could be some years. And like the government it does not yet know why the airbags are exploiting. Although takata has devoted tremendous resources, its clear that this is a complex issue which takes time to fully evaluate. So you want to know if your car is on the list go to safercar. Gov. If you are on the list you should schedule as soon as possible to have the replacement put in but there could be a catch to all of this alisyn. The Replacement Parts could take up to a year because there is so much demand right now, its not clear if you can get it fixed that fast. A lot of anxiety going on about this for some months and we dont know if we reach the end yet, and there could be more dealers and cars out there involved that could not have been identified yet. The search begins this morning. Thank you so much tom. Another big story we are following this morning, and that is isis reportedly tightening its grip on ramadi and pressing eastward in iraq. And what are they saying . Alisyn the white house continues to call the fall of ramadi is a setback that does not necessitate them discarding their overall strategy. Officials say there is no formal strategy review going on and president obama did huddle with his secretary of defense and Broader National Security team here at the white house yesterday and following that meeting Officials Say they will speed up the efforts to arm and train the local fighters and National Security adviser saying they were under the assumption that the fight against isis would not be a straight line. The first thing to remember is we have known from the outset this would not be a short engagement on the part of the United States and this is going to be a longer battle and this is going to be a difficult and extended operation. This is going to be a long slot. The defense from the administration comes after there has been bipartisan criticism of their strategy calling for the United States to do more and speaker of the house, john boehner, calls hope not a strategy. Speaking of washington a lot of Unfinished Business on capitol hill. Three mayor bills the senate is rushing to pass before the memorial daybreak. What are they and will the talk to walk ratio be in your favor. What do you think . Thats a good question. The senate has to pass a new highway bill because the old one expires at the end of the month, and the house passed a two of had month extension yesterday to give the parties to work on the bill but it was the 33rd short Term Extension and the senate is expected to pass that bill later this week and the phone surveillance bill and the house passed a bill to reform the system leaving the government with the phone companies themselves and its unclear if that house passed bill can pass the senate or if they will pass a short term fix, and they will have to figure it out fast because that law expires on june 1st. They have real deadlines in the senate and they wont get to the other two bills until they finish the fast track trade bill and that allows congress to vote on the free trade bills. It will likely pass in the senate but it faces a lot of opposition on both sides of the aisle in the house. A lot of things to get accomplished the next few days. Thank you for that. Hillary clinton actually talking to the press. Something she has not done in quite a while. Senior cnn washington correspondent is traveling along with mrs. Clinton. Why now and was it worth the wait for you . Good morning, michaela. Voters have been wanting to hear from secretary clinton as well as reporters, and a lot of questions have been building up during the first couple months of her candidacy, but she decided to answer these questions, and the criticism of her not was threatening to over is shadow her campaign, and she was relaxed as she answered the question and she defended the speaking fees she received before deciding to run for president , and she said she wants her emails released as secretary of state, and we heard from her for the first time on the Clinton Foundation questions, and she said she is proud of the work of the foundation and this is what she had to say. I am so proud of the foundation and i am proud of the work it has done and is doing, and it attracted donations from people organizations, from around the world, and i will let the American People make their own judgments about that. Of course the voters will make their own judgment about this and so many other things, and by answering questions yesterday she set aside the suggestion on the criticism by republicans and even some democrats she is not being open and transparent as she runs for president , and that was the beginning and not the end of her answering questions, and she knows better than most candidates you have to answer voter questions and our questions. Thank you very much. We are joined here on the set by governor George Pataki. I want to start by saying thank you by so much of what you said and did when my father passed. It meant a lot. Wonderful human being ppb. So people dont think i am in the bag of your favor, you did beat him also. I did beat him. Is it true, because alisyn suggested this you are here to announce early . Is that true . What would you like me to announce . Are you running to president . I am going to announce that next thursday in New Hampshire. The fact you were going to announce it in New Hampshire, if you were not running you could announce it from your living room. Is that true. But New Hampshire is a place you could announce if you were running. I am serious about this. Conditions have gotten worse domestically and overseas and if you believe in your ability to leave and sit it out, shame on you. Its a very crowded republican field. Let us show you how crowded it is. 15 people at last count that expressed some measure of interest and the poll from april 19th you are in the second page there, and lets turn it to where you are, which is at 2 not bad for somebody who has not announced yet, but what do you think you would bring that all those other 14 dont have . First of all, 2 is higher than i was when i ran as governor for new york the first time and nobody knew who i was and i managed to surprise a few people. Two things first of all, you have to win the election and the are republicans have good candidates but we lost the last two president ial elections, and you have to appeal to the Democratic Base and others who have not voted republican enough, and i know i can do that. In 70 years there have been two republicans elected governor of new york Nelson Rockefeller and me, and we didnt have similar backgrounds going up and your second ability to lead if you hold office and i am proud of my record and the vision i would bring to washington. You dont have anybody else in the race after being a threeterm new york governor. Chris christie, he is considering it as well, and the war in iraq what is your answer to knowing what you know now do you believe that going to war with iraq was a mistake . Yes. Knowing what we know now, we have chaos in the middle east we should not have done that. Lets ask that question of hillary, lets ask her would she have agreed to pull every last troop in 2012 out . That was on her clock. What is your answer . Yes, we created a vacuum there that isis filled with catastrophic consequences. I take this a little personal. Both sons served and my older son was a marine officer in anbar during the surge, and to see the gains lost because we pulled out, and its dangerous for us. We saw isis take control of ramadi the key city in iraq. What do you think the administration is doing wrong . How would your strategy be different . This administration doesnt have a strategy. How can you lead when you dont have a concept of what you are doing . Think back a year ago when isis emerged as beyond the jv team and the president said we are going to degrade and destroy them over time using the strategy we used in yemen, and yemen just fell to houthis and i am asking what is your strategy . I would have Recruitment Centers and social media hubs organizing to attack us here. How . I would use all of our air power, everything from tomahawk missiles to whatever is necessary. But i would also first of all, i would buildup the perbing burger. I would certainly provide a lot more support. Second of all, i would not be adversed to putting american boots on the ground to destroy Training Centers and planning centers. Thats scary territory with the American People. You have your two sons who served and americans are very shy in being on the ground in a war that is not there. Rightly so. But it is our war. We both saw september 11th and what happened when we thought because radical islam is thousands of miles away and did not pose a threat to us here, and it did and it does. I dont want to try and create a democracy where one has not existed, and destroy the Training Centers and the area where they are looking to plan to attack us here, and then get out, and leave a little note behind you come back and so will we. No tenyear war, and no mass of casualties but protect american lives before we get attacked here. And marco rubio, let me read what he has said. Governors can read about Foreign Policy and take briefings and meet with experts but no way they will be ready on day one to manage u. S. Foreign policy. Do senators have an advantage . I dont think so. Governors, you have been the executive. The president is an executive. They have to make decisions and often times they are tough decisions you have to make on the spot, and legislators dont have to do that and being able to manage and change a large government and dealing with the legislature is totally different from being a senator. I was a legislature and it was a tremendous experience but you vote yes or no. When you are the executive, you have to deal with the consequences of that vote. And i dont think that casting a vote on Foreign Policy means somehow you are an expert. I think having a solid philosophy and experience and having talked with leaders around the world, and that matters if you are a governor senator, or a citizen seeking higher office. I used to play basketball against your father. What are you 65 . Probably twoonone with him coming at you. You being a competitor and you think i can beat these guys but at your stage of the game why do it . Its not about age, but you have been a threeterm governor and you thought about it before and you went to iowa and said nau, and why put yourself in this . Because i love this country, and i think Leadership Matters and i think we have had leadership that led us in the wrong direction. I believe our freedom is in danger. We saw what almost happened in garland, texas. That could have been another ft. Hood massacre, and we know there are people being radicalized in america to carry out attacks against our fellow citizens now and we have to do more as a government to protect us from that and our freedom is at risk because we see a washington growing ever more powerful and intrusive, and i dont want politicians telling me how i live my life and i want to tell them what they should be doing for us so the need for change is so dramatic if you care about the country and believe you have the ability to lead you almost have to make the fight. So you are open to putting boots on the ground in iraq to fight isis. And then take them out. Not to stay for ten years and build a stable state, but to protect our security interests here. Lots of politicians said that. George w. Bush thought we would get out, and you cant turn it around in 48 hours. There was the first iraq war where we got in and destroyed the forces of Saddam Hussein and freed kuwait and got out and got out successfully. When you say look at what happened in garland, texas, and what is the answer to the people becoming radicalized online . I am a great believer in the first amendment, but you cant shout fire in a crowded theater, and a justice said the constitution is not a suicide pact. I believe we have the legal right to shut down people using the internet or using a pulpit or using any facility to try and convince people fellow americans, to engage in violent acts. When hate speech crosses over into the eminent threat thats exactly right. We might get a lot of pushback and chris i have gotten pushback my whole life and it doesnt bother me if i know its the right thing. Do you believe the Supreme Court comes out and says theres a right to samesex marriage under the equal protection of the 14th amendment, will you have to go with it . My opinion is to leave it to the states. The states passed the antimarriage laws. This is the granting of a new right. Marriage has always been a state issue. I believe that it should continue to be. What happens if the Supreme Court passes the ruling though . We will have to see if they do it . If they do and say its right, isnt it the law of the land . It is the law of the land yes. You would have to go along with it . And you have to follow the law of the land. There are laws i disagree with and you fight the law, you dont break the law, you fight to change the law. We look forward to see what happens on may 28th, and hopefully you will come back on new day right after that. Thank you. Thank you for being on. Another story to tell you about, nine dead after the shootout broke out between biker gangs in texas. Was this anomaly or part of a growing threat in america . Well talk about this next. Big day . We have all heard about what is going on in texas, police on edge and hundreds of guys and weapons and the biker gangs trying to kill one another. Lets bring in somebody that understands the situation very well, and he says some things are right and some things are wrong in turplgzerms of what is being reported and he has written ten books about the motorcycle culture and biker lifestyle. We are being told by the Biker Community to have somebody on who is from the community, and that is where you come in. Tell us how are the banditos misunderstood by records that call them a largely criminal organization as reflected in what we are seeing play out . What is being said and portrayed by the media normally is not anywhere close to reality. 60 to 70 of the guys in all the Motorcycle Clubs, not just the banditos but all Motorcycle Clubs are regular working guys and they have jobs and they have families and kids and they go off to work every day like Everything Else and a all they are guilty of is having a little too much fun on the weekends and despite there is 170 people arrested there were five organizations involved in the altercation. Out of the people that are arrested there are members of seven other clubs who are nothing but bystanders and no charges will be filed i would suspect. You are the company you keep, right, so if its 60 and 70 of good guys why do they associate themselves with a criminal element . But there were a ton of weapons down there, and a lot of chatter saying this is not over and we are going to retaliate and fight it out, and is that not weekend warrior stuff, is it . The clubs are loyal to each other, and people get involved in the club because of calm rot re. Some of them missed something in their childhood, they they find that sense of family when they get involved in the Motorcycle Club. They are very loyal, honor and a lot of respect, and, you know when two members of these opposing factions meet in the future there could be a fistfight or whatever happens. If they are going to bury the hatchet, i dont know. Its not like we are talking about the elks club, and this is a different culture, and you are giving insight, these are guys maybe missing something and maybe they are exmilitary and have a deeper bound, and what could make them fight with their lives if they feel they are being threatened . They are very loyal to the organization and that is a part of being in the Motorcycle Club. They have found the family they never had when they were young. They love their brothers and will do anything for them, and if a brother is hurt by somebody they feel its their obligation to remove that threat and protect their brothers lives. I spent time working with inner city gangs and you talk to the 18th street game or the bloods or crips, they say the same thing about thats how they are and why they are that way, and do you think thats an appear tphalg . I think so. What separates the banditos from being an inheritly Violent Group . They are typically not violent, and they typically are there to have a good time and, again, like i said earlier, the only thing they are guilty of is having too much fun on the weekends. Totally understood and again, we will see how it plays outgoing forward, and this ongoing war that involves weapons and murderous activity going on and i know you are deeply involved in the culture and preserving what the best of the banditos on and i know you said the war may continue but hopefully it continues with words and not bad deeds. Thank you for joining us and giving us a different take on this life. All right. Interesting conversation there. Me, when i had a blood clot in my leg that could have traveled to my lungs. Thats why i took xarelto®, too. Xarelto® is proven to treat and help reduce the risk of dvt and pe blood clots. I took xarelto® for afib. An irregular heartbeat that can lead to a stroke from a blood clot. Xarelto® is proven to reduce the risk of stroke in people with afib, not caused by a heart valve problem. Hey, well im glad we got together. For people with afib currently well managed on warfarin there is limited information on how xarelto® and warfarin compare in reducing the risk of stroke. I tried warfarin before, but the blood testing routine and dietary restrictions had me off my game. Tell me about it. Lets see, golf clinic, or blood clinic . Ooh, thats a tough one. Not this time. Not with xarelto®. Anything else . Ill have another arnold palmer. Ok. Make mine a kevin nealon. Really, brian . Hey, safety first. Like all blood thinners, dont stop taking xarelto® without talking to your doctor as this may increase your risk of a blood clot or stroke. While taking xarelto® you may bruise more easily and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. Xarelto® may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. Xarelto® can cause serious bleeding and in rare cases may be fatal. Get help right away if you develop unexpected bleeding unusual bruising, or tingling. If you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto® watch for back pain or any nerve or musclerelated signs or symptoms. Do not take xarelto® if you have an artificial heart valve, or abnormal bleeding. Tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures. Before starting xarelto® tell your doctor about any conditions such as kidney, liver, or bleeding problems. Xarelto® has been prescribed more than 11 million times in the u. S. And that numbers growing. Like your guys scores. With xarelto® there is no regular blood monitoring, and no known dietary restrictions. Treatment with xarelto® was the right move for us. Ask your doctor about xarelto®. You may be able to get up to 12 months at no cost. Are you running for president . I am going to announce that next thursday in New Hampshire. The fact you are going to announce it in New Hampshire, if you were not running you could announce it from your living room . Thats true. But New Hampshire might be a place that you are running. Yeah something going on in New Hampshire, a primary, Something Like that first in the nation. But i am very serious about this. If you believe in your ability to leave and you sit it out, shame on you. That was former new york governor George Pataki essentially announcing his president ial intentions on new day, and the list of contenders grows each day and how is he going to stand out. When i asked this question i am being mostly glib and i dont mean to disparage to anybody, and does everybody and their dog think they can be president . There really is not the frontrunner in all of this and jeb stumbling this past week with regard to his conversation about iraq i think its a direct reason why you have governor pataki he essentially said i am in. I think i will own it. I think i was so thrown by the candor that i missed that i think he was actually saying you said are you running, and he said i am going to announce that next week. I think he announced. I do too. I button holed him in the green room trying to get him on my show, and he said to me look you know, you walk into a restaurant that you are not here to have dinner. New hampshire is a big restaurant. I agree with that. We were impressed with his candor. Like his possessions or dont like his positions, and in order to fight isis to beat isis he believes the u. S. Will have to put roots on the ground to root out their training camps. And he gave you a direct answer with regard to iraq. The question is is there enough oxygen for him in the room because he is an establishment type republican and jeb bush seems to own that territory, and Chris Christie might seem poised if jeb stumbles but governor pataki is a candidate. When you look at jeb versus governor pataki how do you plus and minus it . It depends on if jeb is going to be a carbon copy of his brother. He is reluctant thus far to distinguish himself from the positions that his brother had while in office. You wont get that from governor pataki. I think pataki knows as he gave you that direct answer about iraq being a mistake, that he is prepared to distinguish himself from the rest of the group. I dont know that jeb is yet poised to distinguish himself from his own brother. You asked about samesex marriage. And we we dont have that ready yet. Paraphrase. He said the states should decide . Thats a popular position in the gop, and thats not him opposing or embracing samesex marriage. That may sound better than it actually has purchased legally, if the Supreme Court finds there is a right of equal protection with the right to marriage and gays forget about it being a class, its no longer a tenth amendment question and just because something is popular doesnt make it just . They will be relieved if thats the outcome, because they will take a pass on the whole issue. And the republican field is wise enough to know that this wedge issue is not one you get elected, maybe nominated but not elected. Hillary clinton finally taking questions from the press, and we will get to that in a second but pair those two, pataki and clinton, how does that look . Battle of the empire state, right . I think we could have the election tomorrow if she is the democratic nominee, and unless something happens she probably s. And 47 of the people are ready to come out and vote for or against her, and very few are undecided. Do you think he is their best bet right now . Who . George pataki. He is the type of republican that can win a nomination. Can he survive the primaries . Much more difficult. He is not pro choice but he is he is playing the field of samesex marriage which is probably the smart choice as you are saying, and can he survive the primaries . Difficult for him to survive that process, until jeb stumbles and they are fighting for that sliver of the pie, and its conceivable. He needs to raise money, though. We will leave the rest over the weekend for you to talk about it and its 9 00 a. M. On eastern on saturday. What a goodbye. David letterman signs off as the host of the late show. One of the biker gangs involved in the deadly brawl in texas agreed to cancel its annual rally that would have brought hundreds of more bikers into texas over the weekend. And David Letterman, one last top ten list. Bill murray his first guest, made an appearance last night, as you see there, popping gracely out of a cake. One man became one of the first deaf physicians certified in the United States and dr. Sanjay gupta has his story in todays human factor. He knew he wanted to follow in his parents footsteps by becoming a doctor, despite his hearing loss. The doctor told my parents he said the parents pushed back and placed him in Public School where few accommodations were given to deaf students. 1955 the teachers would say, no way i will have a deaf kid in my class, and my parents would have to assist. Bullying became another obstacle. But he persevered and went on to medical school and worked twice as hard to keep up with his hearing classmates. I spent a lot more time reading the materials. He is Department Chair of medicine at the university of michigan. Many dont even know i have a hearing loss. He inspires others like him to pursue careers in medicine. Can we sing loud enough . All we are saying is that was bill murray covered in cake saying goodbye to David Letterman last night, and murray was his first guest in 1982. And lets bring in the former managing editor of people magazine. We dont know what will be on the finale but we know something interesting, and that was jay leno was invited to be on the finale but what happened . Invited but passed. We have not heard from leto but we heard from the producer and it would have been a big deal since leno beat letterman to the show. Is there bad blood . I think what is interesting, watching bill murray jump out of a cake last night, he is trying to acknowledge the fact he is leaving and he is trying to do his ordinary show, and having jay on it would overshadow things, and one wrong move could have ruined it and jay said thanks but no thanks. Works for both. Got invited, and declined and the show goes pop David Letterman doesnt want weeping and teary eyes necessary. He has not written a goodbye, and it will come from the heart and be spontaneous, and they will have no sitdown guests and there is something about that it was about spending time with him, and it was not about the crazy over the top gags and it was just about spending an hour with a guy you liked, and thats what he will do tonight. He will consult the bible of johnny, and johnny had clips and there was emotion but he was trying not to be sentimental. I think there will be you will look back and see what johnny did, and it wont be the same but do the show im done and i take my lunch pale and go home. Jimmy fallon was inspired by letterman. Listen to what jimmy fallon told his audience about this. At the end my teacher makes predictions about what her students were going to go on to do, and i dont know why she has a talent and she thinks she does but she made a saying james fallon will replace letterman on the late night show. I want to go to the racetrack with this teacher. He was not alone. So many people say he was their inspiration. 35 years ago, that was David Letterman talking about johnny carson. Its identical. Jimmy kimmel says dont watch me watch letterman. He is running a rerun tonight. Yeah they love one another. And letterman, often in the business on the entertainment side especially in being different, if it was throwing the pencil at the camera or testing power, he did that in a way that maybe jon stewart should give a nod to. Jon stewart, and colbert, and they all do it, and he changed the world. That was a phrase that the producer said yesterday that struck me he is a trusted broadcaster, and yes, a comedian but a trusted broadcaster. When you list all that stuff, laughing in church kind of thing, now which direction do you have to go. You have to pivot from that to stand out from the crowd, so what does colbert do . What strikes me about the show if you look back to steve allen, if you came as an alien and watched a show now, 65 years from the beginning, it looks the same its a guy behind a desk and some chairs, and letterman managed to break it and leave it the same way. Yeah. Do people want Something Different . We have been watching the same notion for 65 years . Yes with pencils and irreverence, but basically, guys desk jokes, music. We will see if he changes that around. The city of indianapolis changed today as letterman day. It gets bigger and bigger. We will take a live picture outside of the late show the ed sullivan theater, and it looks like people are clustered or that could be a hotdog vender. Its somebody selling second rate wear in front of it. Were all watching tonight whether its time shifting or watching it live. Live i think, maybe this one time. Yeah right. You want to avoid the recaps tomorrow and you want to see it tonight. We want to know what your favorite memory of the David Letterman show was. That was good stuff. We have more for you coming up.
