Special counsel wants to talk to the president of the United States in the next few weeks, thats according to the Washington Post. And whats telling this hour is what Robert Mueller wants to talk about him about it. A source close to the investigation saying is mueller is seeking to determine whether there is a pattern of behavior by the president. First we knee mueller wants to talk about the firing of the former fbi director comey. According to the post, remember the white house said he was dismissed because of the email. But now we know it was because of the russia investigation. Do you believe the russia investigation played a role . In why i was fired . Yes. Yes. Because ive seen the president say so. Okay. He did say the president say sochlt because the president of the United States in his own words explained that the reason he fired comey was bausz comey wouldnt bow to his pressure about russia. Regardless of recommendation, i was going to fire comey, knowing there was no good time to do it. In fact when i decided today do it, i said to myself, you know, this russia thing with trump and russia is a made up story. Its an excuse by the democrats for strg lost an election that they should have won. Now, the post also reports mueller wants to talk about the pressure the president put on Jeff Sessions to step down after he recused himself. So, again, ill give you President Trump. Here he is six months after sessions recused himself from the investigation. I am disappointed in the attorney general. He should not have recused himself. Almost immediately after he took office. And if he was going to recuse himself, he should told me prior to taking office and i would have quite simply picked somebody else. Pressure on comey. Pressure on sessions. Now, we have learned today that both comey and sessions have also been interviewed for hours by Robert Mueller. But trumps questionable pattern of behavior, again the word here pattern, when it comes to the russia probe does not end with jim comey and Jeff Sessions. We are learning that the fbi Christopher Wray hand picked choice threatened to quit because he felt so much pressure to reassign the Deputy Director Andrew Mccabe. Now, trump denied that. But we know trump is putting pressure on mccabe who he feels is biased against him. Started last year with this, why didnt he do this, drain the swamp. Trump then kept up the pressure just a month ago, fbi director Andrew Mccabe is racing the clock. And saying anxious for the investigation to wrap up. With this call from Robert Mueller seems like they have all their ducks in a row. You dont interview the head until you check all the tails. Sara murray out front tonight. What more can you tell us . I think when you look at this, not really a surprise. Obviously we know the firing of james comey is it a key element in muellers investigation into whether President Trump tried to obstruct justice. But take another look at michael flynn. Remember, National Security adviser ousted after lying sanction ws the Russian Ambassador including lying to vice president. So mueller can see that into ha window into any collusion along the way by the high ranking Trump Officials and other officials. We know he pleaded guilty to the fbi. But when you talk about the time line for mueller to meet with the president. The Washington Post says the coming weeks, that could mean in twi weeks, in two months. So not clear exactly what time line we could be operating under here. I think one thing though that you can certainly draw the conclusion of is, look, this Mueller Investigation is in full swing and clearly has no reservations about bringing in bigger targets. As you pointed out already spoken with james comey who took these notes of his meetings and discussions with the president. And then moving on to Jeff Sessions a sitting attorney general, recused himself, but was with the president throughout. But tells you mueller is not afraid of bringing in these big fish as you continues to move through the investigation. But the big question is does he get the sit down with the president and when will it happen. Thank you very much. That is the ultimate question. Outfront now carry cordero, and richard painter. Tim, let me start with you. A lot of breaking news when we talk about the fbi director threatening to quit because of pressure from the president. But now the news President Trump could be interviewed by Robert Mueller in the coming weeks. Yes. And then youll know candidate trump his predilection was saying that he couldnt remember anything. Thats going to be harder to pull off because these are events that happened only a year ago. And mueller and his team are very professional. So the issue for the president and his team is how account president dancan the president dance through these questions . So you have issue of perjury if he doesnt tell the truth. Hes going to be asked about what flynn knew and don junior after meeting with the russians and possible money laundering. And so many questions. And to the point that tim just raised, that not recalling. The president has said that he has quote one of the greatest memories of all times. In a deposition he did not remember, Trump University, that was in december 2015. In another Trump University deposition he said 24 times that he did not recall. Will that fly with bob mueller, carry . Well, the special counsels team is made up of really experienced prosecutors and they have a team of investigators. So clearly if they conduct an interview, thats a very different setting with the powers of Law Enforcement than even an adversarial civil deposition. But we dont really know exactly if the reports are true that he had are getting closer to interviewing the president. We dont know at this point whether or not the special counsels team intends to interview the president solely about obstruction related matters or whether they plan to conduct more whole some interview that gets into all these other categories that the investigation may be covering. So, richard, we went back and watched one of trumps old depositions today. Just to get a sense for how he is. Because the big question is it how much is this going to be interview one on one where the president will be forced to answer questions. Or how much of it will be allowed to be written in fact lawyers can fact check it and do it and totally different proposition. Here the president is in a deposition where hes answering the question. Hes asked a question about how the president ial campaign may have had a positive effect on his businesses. And i want to play a little bit of his answer. And do you attribute that to the extent it has an affect is because people associate you with the hotels and they want to be a part of your Political Campaign to the extent they are favorably disposed . Well, maybe success of the campaign. People have said there has never been anything like this. Owe really said the other night something to the effect this is one of the great phenomenas hes ever seen in his lifetime. You know, so i mean its been pretty amazing. You have 17 people. And i end up at the top of one of the two parties. A lot of wins. We have beat ina lot of people. All right. So richard goes off on a tangent. But thats part of it. But thats trump. Extreme consciousness. Its about trump. Its about how great he is. Hes a winner. A personal interview is very different proposition than written testimony. Well, in any event, Robert Mueller is going to want answers to his questions. Not tangents or discussions of what President Trump saw on fox news, which he gave in that deposition testimony. Hes going to want answers to his questions. And those answers had better be truthful answers or the president is going to be in a heap of trouble. Thats the first thing. Second, the president does have serious exposure here to object instruction of Justice Charges just based on the evidence thats in the public domain. And youve just played a lot of it right now. And so he is in legal jeopardy going into this interview, this discussion with Robert Mueller. And the other thing is its so obvious why Jeff Sessions had to recuse. He was a witness in the matter. He himself has had discussions with Robert Mueller, has been interviewed by Robert Mueller as a witness. And the idea that President Trump thinks that his attorney general who participated in the campaign, met with the russians, forgot about meeting with the russians under oath, and now is a witness in this matter would somehow unrecuse and squash the Russian Investigation is yet more evidence that this president simply wants to obstruct justice. I mean, tim, heres the thing. We talk about the attorney general. So now we know the president they want to talk to the president. They have already, they are now saying, for hours interviewed the former fbi jim comey and also the attorney general Jeff Sessions. Now Jeff Sessions has used i dont recall tactic in congress. Three testimonies about the Russian Investigation. And heres just a few of the times. I think we counted dozens. But heres a few. I dont recall is that, senator, i still do not recall it. I dont recall it now. I just dont have a real recall of the meeting. I dont recall. I dont recall. I dont recall. I dont recall that conversation. I dont recall how that exactly occurred. I dont recall. Okay. I mean, its almost humorous of course it isnt. So better to say i have a terrible memory here. I have alzheimers, i dont remember. Grand jury testimony, what they do is show you documents, and they say does this help tu remember . Can we talk to you about this . So what they would do, what they couldnt do in congress, because they dont have the subpoena, but didnt use the subpoena power, muellers people have documents and can say perhaps we can help refresh your memory. Do you recall, then they may have looked at diary. So completely prepared for this. My friends were lawyers always told me as a lawyer you never ask a question which you dont have already. You have it built up already. Yes. According to cnn poll today democrats and republicans do think trump should testify under oath about russia. So that is bipartisan point of view. If mueller wants you in there, you get in there. But, this is crucial but, the cnn poll says 75 of republicans say its effort to discredit the trump presidency. Does this takeaway mean whatever muellers ultimate conclusion is, it will not be fully accepted by the American People . Thats a judgment for the political folks to weigh in on. And whether or not its legitimate, i think that bob mueller, he was the fbi director for 12 years, he has incredible amount of credibility and assembled incredible team. So from my prpic spiff having observed him for many years as fbi director, no reason anybody should doubt the credibility of his investigation. And the word you mentioned at the beginning of the program with respect to his looking at a pattern of obstruction really is the key. Because its not just about the firing of jim comey. Its about the pressuring of Jeff Sessions to recuse. Its about a series of things that the president has done over the period of 11 to 12 months that have had the effect of trying to derail the russia investigation, the flynn investigation, and the related investigation. Richard . Well, i think this is a very serious situation for President Trump and for this administration. We had a foreign power conduct criminal activity in the United States and espionage, meetings in the trump tower with representatives of the russian government. There are other contacts made with the russians. There clearly was collaboration. The question was whether the collaboration was illegal. But the president has his exposure to obstruction of just cities charge because he repeatedly tried to derail this investigation. And i would have to say that the majority of the American People take it very seriously, many people dont identify with other Political Party because they are sick and tired of the partisanship. But they take this very seriously. When a Foreign Government interferes with our elections, conducts espionage here, and the president of the United States doesnt want to take it seriously. All right. Thank you all. And next the breaking news the white house now weighing in on the controversial republican memo about the fbi, whether to be released to the public. Breaking news a source telling cnn President Trump is inclined to allow the release of controversial memo from congressman devon nunes. Memo alleges that the fbi abused surveillance laws. And it also contains classified information. Now the source cautions that the House Intelligence Committee has to approve the release of the memo before the president will agree. Out front in the white house, this is the big deal, hashtag republicans have been pushing to release this memo. And devon nunes wants it out there. But obviously this is hugely controversial. Definitely. Not everyone agrees it should be released. That division falls along party lines. Republicans have argued that the details of this memo confirm their claims there is bias in the Intelligence Community to go after President Trump. Democrats have argued that it is nothing but strewn together not based in fact going so far it could harm the relationship between congress and Intelligence Community. If it is approved for declassification by the house, the white house has noted the president is inclined to declassify it. However, before it has to go through review, as well as National Security review, and presents some hurdles, because potentially another agency could find details with the report and can the whole thing. We should note the president has far ranging broad powers of declassification. He could potentially get around this entire pros stes and release the memo himself. However, a source at the white house has told us that the president prefers to go through the proper channels and do it right. Thanks. Good to have you back with me. Nice to be here. You just heard our source telling the cnn inclined to release devon nunes memo. Do you want to see it released . Im hesitant to is he it released and ive read it and as far as i know only members of the Intelligence Committee read the source. You had to go in a room or something . Secret room. More to the point i read the source documents and i cant comment on this except to say it is profoundly misleading based on the source documents. Its a statements mostly of opinion and of distortions. Writt written entirely by partisan staff. And if you read the source documents and they are highly classified, you would know it is highly misleading and deliberately misleading. Now if they were to declassify the source documents that would be a different story. So if they were to declassify source documents you would be fine with it . I dont think that would be fine. Leave that up to the cia. But if they were, all came as a package, you would feel differently . Then you would see this is a profoundly misleading and dis on test memo of conclusions. And its a political document pure and simple designed for one purpose, and that is to discredit and dis able the fbi and the Justice Department and part of a longterm campaign by the republicans and administration and some of the republicans in congress to disable and dis credit any agency that is involved in the investigation with the president. And this is obviously about the fbi, right . Fbi, yes. So i guess the question i have is if the claims in the memo are based on opinion, and they are partisan, and written by republicans only. And they misrepresent the source documents which are classified. Okay. So this may partially get to how youll answer this question. But my point is if the document itself is a lie. Then it wouldnt hold up to public scrutiny because it would not hold up to the truth. Not necessarily. Why not let it out there . Because its very dangerous to let out a document that purports to represent other documents when those documents are secret. In other words, you are saying this is the conclusion. If you saw those documents you would know we were telling the truth. Of course you cant see those documents. So in other words you are saying the memo may not look like a lie in the public eye . It may not. Because you cant get to the source documents. Right. So source document that you think is the issue . Documents. Plural. And youve seen all of those. Uhhuh. I want to turn to the other top story tonight which Robert Mueller. Washington post is saying trump team wants interview. Do you think its harder to see if the president tells the truth . Or do you not care what the format of the questioning is . I think in general written statements maic it easier to control what is revealed and make it easier for the lawyers to say rather than for the president or whoever the witness is to say. But ill leave that up to the special prosecutor, to special counsel mr. Mueller. Mr. Mueller is a republican and someone of the greatest integrity that everyone agrees to. And let him destied the best method of the investigation. We are also reporting tonight fbi director, current fbi director Christopher Wray threatened to quit. Have you ever asked wray about this . No, we have not asked wray about this. But we saw in the last day or so i think this information came out. That makes wray the second fbi, wray personally handpicked a. Ee of President Trump makes him second fbi director in a row to be pressured improperly by the president on Personnel Matters to get rid of people who are in convenient to the president who may tell truths the president doesnt want to. And he was, i notice that the report says he was pressured by attorney general sessions who was discussed to be recused by this. So this is more evidence of a concerted attempt by the administration to discredit and dis able the Russian Investigation. So the president by the way has come out and denied that wray threatened to quit. Im not sure what it is. But hes denying it. Here he is today. No, he didnt at all. He did not even a little bit. And hes going to do a good job. Continued when asked about the new leadership of the fbi to say lets see how it works out. Are you going to bring in wray to testify . Its not up to me. The president is a liar. The president didnt deny pressuring and urging the fbi to fire the Deputy Director mr. Mccabe because he didnt approve of his role in the investigation of the president. That is highly improper. And again its part of a Concerted Campaign to undermine and to derail an official investigation here. Thank you very much congressman. I appreciate your time as always. Thank you. Outfront next deal or no deal. Chuck schumer is rescinding his offer to pay for trumps wall. 16 days until the next shutdown. And weighing in on the texts. Nana, lets do this aye aye, captain and as you go through life whoo tryin to reach your goal let your inner light loosefe with one a day womens. A complete multivitamin specially formulated with key Nutrients Plus vitamin d for bone health support. Your one a day is showing. New tonight senator Chuck Schumer says the wall is off the table. Schumer is rescinding the offer he made to President Trump last week before the shutdown. This was a big offer. This was ill give you your wall. Well, anyway it didnt work in getting a deal and smumchumer i taking it off the wall. And republicans are livid. Guess what, 16 days until the government can shutdown again. Deal no where in site. With me now is heto talk about this. Chuck schumer put the wall on the table. Big deal. He has not taken the wall off the table. Number two republican cornyn says this is a huge step backward. Isnt he right . Well, temporarily, erin, but its a negotiating tactic. And Chuck Schumer has negotiated before. Audience is one person. Its donald trump. This is largely symbolic issue. I would bet for even republicans like cornyn, because this is the wall has been authorized for sometime. This is about trump having a political talking point to have it rallied. He wants this. We dont know what else what trump would support or sign off on but know he wants the wall. So this is saying you want the wall you better give us something else. In that case, thats strategy sounds pretty smart, you want to go into a new negotiation takeaway the thing the person wants the most because you have to give me something for it, right . Right. Listen, erin, after the schumer surrender. You have a way with words, steve. From a stronger position. But, look, first of all, i think this is an important point. If you dont have borders, you dont have a country. This is a foundational promise of trump. Its one of the reasons, if not the reason that he won both the nomination and president to get control of the immigration system. But not just partisan issue. Democrats have voted for hundreds of miles for additional barricades at the border including then senators obama and clinton who voted for it. So this should be a bipartisan issue. What senator smchumer is trying to do is make it bipartisan. Its good for us and mexico to get control of our southern border. We can no longer tolerate a dangerous open border as we have for decades. I guess the one thing to say, i know youll disagree on almost all those points, but when it comes to senator schumer, would know hes going to give up the wall. He already gave it up once. You are not going to give it up, right, pretend . What i gave up is authorization, not appropriation. I bet you donald trump doesnt understand that. Im certain his staff does. And you can calculate that for schumer hes betting democrats may win back the house. Maybe win back the senate. This is a place where its trump can have a symbolic win and chance at rallies but we are not standing wasting taxpayer money ton a wul that nobody really thinks we need more of. And yet steve the white house still, during the way during the whole negotiation lets not forget the president was under personal criticism from people in his own party, from the Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell to members of Congress Like mow brooks because they didnt know where the president of the United States stood. And confusing messages. Heres Mick Mulvaney this morning on dreamers and what the administrations position actually is. Just say what his position is on it, who gets to stay, how do they get to say . Depends on what we get in exchange. What do we get for Border Security . Senator schumer this weekend said he gave the president everything he wanted on the wall. Ive challenged that. So my question to you, you were head of the hispanic counsel for new president during the campaign. Any situation in which you would be okay with some of these 700,000 plus americans who came in as Young Children through no choice of their own, any of them getting kicked out . No, erin i dont want them kicked out. Ive been clear about that for a long time. By the way, so does the president. I disagree with the premise of the question. One of the things in the Campaign Said im going to get rid of president obama executive order. Yes, and he did by the way. Right. And heres the thing. President trump what he did was he thought he was king obama and he thought he could wave his ceptor and make them legally protected even though they are Illegal Immigrants of the United States. And what President Trump has done, and i gave him credit, lets do it the right way, through the congress, constitutional way. But if we are going to do this, lets get control of the immigration system in totality which is badly broken. In the United States right now we have a visa lossry system which endamage sz our National Security. We have a chine migration system that endamages our economic security. We have right now, and this is not my talking point, per the l. A. Times in the state of california 55 of all immigrants are on public assistance. I love immigration. Im an immigrant son. Im a hispanic. We are not doing immigration right. Lets start doing it right. Merit based. Control the border, allow the daca people to stay. There is a reasonable compromise here. Im going to make the point. Ill raise the question, Melania Trump is an immigrant. I would assume chain migration played a part. Quite possibly. Donald trump doept understand that. Its immigration how they came to the people. Not people black and brown. People who have come from europe and all over the world. So big discuss to discuss it for democrats. Obviously a lot of details in there. But how that is handled is particularly sensitive issue and one that will be pivotal to the whole discussion. All right. Thank you both very much. Next President Trump worked up over fbi Text Messages that republicans say show bias against him. New tonight republicans releasing new and what they see are jaw dropping political messages from a top fbi agent. President trump tweeting about the messages, some of which are now missing. He says in one of the biggest stories in a long time fooib says it fbi says its missing text. Wow, now lets be clear that the president is obviously mixing things up a bit. 50,000 is the total number of messages the fbi has on servers, ones they have put out there. So they put 50,000 out there. Who knows how many in the months. The whole point is mixing. Jessi Jessi Jessica snider is out front. They are back available on the day bob mueller is special counsel. Do we know anything about what they say . They are releasing them bit by bit. So what we are getting is months and months back and forth before fbi peter strzok. And they were having an affair and were texting. Heres the latest. So first there is this one from may 19, two days of mueller was appointed. Agent strzok he talks about potentially joining muellers team and writes this, he says, you and i both know the odds are nothing. If i thought it was likely, i would be there no question. I hesitate in part because of my gut sense and concern. There is no big there there. So when senator johnson released those today, he said that those remarks were jaw dropping say they absolutely refer to muellers probe and of course strzoks feeling about it. Hanna text bash of them, not Crystal Clear what strzok meant by there is no big there there. So sort of open to interpretation. Now one other text from strzok referenced the clinton email investigation, women he was part of it, and known as the mid year exam. So heres what he said about that i personally have a sense of unfinished business. I unleashed it with nye. Now i need to fix it. And finish it. So of course erin, republicans are pointing to these tekts as evidence of bias. Democrats just say they are distracting from the russia probe. Now talking about one of those messages was may 19. Now of course we are missing five months ending on may 17. They are blaming technical System Glitch where switching to s samsung phone. But tle are saying something else. Republican senator richard beurre chair of the Intelligence Committee he even says he believes it was just a Technical Glitch at the beurre owe. And when these texts were cents over, the coverler that it was assistants senator general boyd and he explained it, he said these are technical issues with the fbi retention software. But it is that big gap that it was from december 2016 to may 17th, 2017. And of course the day Robert Mueller was a pointed so a lot of questions for republicans there. Thank you very much, jessica. Next evangelical says trump deserves a mulligan over alleged a fair with important star. Im going to talk to tony perkins next. Ssure and need Cold Medicine that works fast, the choice is simple. Coricidin hbp is the 1 brand that gives powerful cold symptom relief without raising your blood pressure. Coricidin hbp. Alright, i brought in high protein to help get us moving. But it doesnt mean you cant get back on track. Great. Yeah, great. Id like to go back to bermuda. I hear its nice. Yeah, id like to see it. No judgment. Just guidance. Td ameritrade. New tonight evangelicals given President Trump a pass on porn star. Research counsel says religist right is giving the president do over for past personal mistakes including reports the president s lawyer create add private company to pay for a porn stars silence about alleged affair with trump. Out front now tony perkins. Thanks for coming back. Thank you. You used mulligan to talk about this. And recent allegations involve an allegations with porn star that ghana few months after his wife gave births, president s wife, and president s personal attorney paying off the porn star for his silence. And you say you get a mulligan here. Im quoting you. Why . If this behavior were occurring today right now has he was president of the United States i can assure you that my support and support of evangelical would be dissipating very rapidly. But talking about something that occurred ten years ago. Among a number of things that occurred with this president prior to being president , and myself, along with a lot of of evangelicals were not support. In fact, icam pained with his supporters, down to he and hi Hillary Clinton, he wanted the support of evangelical. Im picking a pro life conservative running mate and embraced himself in the conservative Party Platform ever. And yes evangelical, conservatives gave him a mulligan. They let him have a do over. They said well start fresh with you and give you a Second Chance. And there are people, evangelicals understand what a Second Chance means. And thats what that comment was made in. I want to ask you about the justices if a moment. When you talk about a Second Chance, look, there is at least 15 women who say trump harassed or assaulted them. Here he is. I just start kissing them. It is a magnet. And when you are a star, they let you do it. You can do anything, grab them by the [ bleep ]. You can do anything. A mulligan to golfers is one extra shot. How many do you give him . I am going to tell you right now, evangelical support of the president is not unconditional. Let me be clear about that. If this president were to engage in that behavior now that he would have alleged to admitted to being in there before. He has been actively involved and engaging with evangelicals since the general election. Build a relationship with them. Listened to them and he has been pursuing a conservative constitutional agenda that is in align with them. If the president stopped for some reason keeping campaign promises, then that support is long. You are saying he is the most conservative constitutional agenda, that is what he is pursuing. You said in the past those of us who advocate to family values in the Public Square are held to a higher standard. You are saying he is advocating of what you see prolife. Why not hold him to the same standard . He is not doing these things now. If he does, if he were to engage in this alleged behavior now this support would not be there. And i will be the first to say that. We heard all of this in the campaign and again, evangelicals were not there in the beginning. Only when they had a choice between Hillary Clinton and a guy who said i am going to champion things you care about. I want a Second Chance. I want to do the right thing and to date, he is doing the right thing. What about the hush money the wall street journal alleges. Look, this president , everything he does good or bad is attacked. I am going to tell you about the policies that we are watching. He has moved the embassy to jerusalem. He has ordered the department of justice to make sure every federal agency is respecting religious freedom. He has embraced a solid prolife agenda and as long as the president continues to keep his promises and continues to conduct himself as he has that i am aware of, he continues to have support of evan jellcas. What about when you are you okay with that racist comment . He is not the first president to use colorful language. I would not he said i dont want people from those ass holes, you dont find that racist . I know there are a lot of evangelicals, who say, i am with the president , i wish he wouldnt tweet the way he does.
