Kasich taking questions from voters on topics from terrorism to jobs. Trump defending his Campaign Manager, Corey Lewandowski who was arrested and charged with simple battery after roughly grabbing the arm of a reporter. Trump says he wont fire lewandowski and he even mocked the reporter, michelle fields. It would be so easy for me to terminate this man, ruin his life, ruin his family. He has four beautiful children in new hampshire. Ruin his whole everything and say youre fired, okay . I fired many people, especially on the apprentice. Look what she says. Michelle fields bish, by the wa shes not a baby. In her own way, i was jolted backwards. Defuse grabbed me tightly by the arm and yanked me down. She wasnt yanked down. Interesting to see him have notes on his hand in this subject. This is a guy who doesnt use a teleprompter often. He walked away from his pledge to support the eventual republican nominee adding that hes been treated unfairly by the Republican Party. All three candidates stepping back from the pledge. Cruz refusing to say he would back donald trump if he becomes the nominee. Im not in the habit of supporting defuse who attacks my wife and attacks my family. I think thats going beyond the line. I think our wives, our kids should be off limit. Donald will not be the gop nominee. Trump and cruz both challenged on their rhetoric in the socalled war of wives. I didnt start it. Thats i didnt start it. Thats the argument of a 5yearold. No, its not. Its the argument of a 5yearold. You would say that. Thats the problem with our country. Thats not a 5yearold. Every 5yearold says he didnt start it. Thats the problem. Exactly that thinking is the problem this country has. John kasich tried to say above the fray. I can say all kinds of things to get people stirred up. But leaders dont do that. Leaders tell people the way they see it. Even if it means for a while youre unpopular. Helping us break this down is josh rogan, columnist for bloomberg view. He joins us from our Washington Bureau bright and early this morning. Nice to see you. A lot of material from last night, from these candidates, as they head into wisconsin. Lets talk first about backing away from this pledge. I think thats a headline, a big, big headline from last night. I want you to listen to these candidates in their own words. Do you still sand by the pledge to support the nominee, even if its donald trump . Why said is true. Im not in the habit of supporting defuse who attacks my wife and attacks my family. Obviously he doesnt have to support me. Im not asking for his support. I want the peoples support. Do you pledge to support whoever the nominee is . No, i dont. I dont. Well see who it is. If the nominee is defuse who is hurting the country, dividing the country, i cant stand behind them. This is what Republican Party insiders did not want to see. A Republican Party falling apart in terms of supporting who could be the ventricle nominee even before the convention. This was the pledge they made, except for donald trump, in the first gop debate, and gop made this pledge with a grand showing after a meeting with the rnc. Thats all over now. I think what were seeing here is the public result of whats going on behind the scenes in the Republican Party. Despite ted cruzs denial that hes running to prevent trump from getting 1237 delegates, thats whats going on. If you talk to anybody working behind the scenes on any one of these campaigns, theyll say the same thing. All bets are off. The mission is to deny trump the nomination. If he somehow gets the nomination, things like a third party candidate, a conservative candidate to run against trump, those are all on the table. Thats just the reality. The insiders all know that. Now when theyre asked publicly will you support trump if hes the nominee or vice versa, they cant say yes. Thats no longer the case. The game has changed. Its not about republican unity. Its about stopping trump. And theres no actual rules either internally or externally about what the limits tho s of that mission might be. Huge news breaking on the Trump Campaign side. His Campaign Manager arrested and charged with simple battery after grabbing that reporter by the arm. We got the response from donald trump. We heard the response from all the candidates. Listen to trump and cruz here. By the way, she was grabbing me. Am i supposed to press charges against her . My arm is hurting anderson, my arm is killing me. You are suggesting excuse me, i didnt suggest. I tweeted. A tweet is a suggestion. Should i press charges . Are you going to. I dont know, maybe i should, right . She was grabbing me. She was off base because she went through the secret service, she had a pen in her hand, which secret service is not liking, because they dont know what it is, whether its a little bomb. Look, it shouldnt be complicated that members of the Campaign Staff should not be physically assaulting the press. That that shouldnt be a complicated decision. Okay. Never a dull moment. You have trump standing by his man. You have the other saying wait a minute what is going on here . How effective do you think that donald trump is in his reaction to andersons question . I think youve got two things going on here. One is the evolving trump version of events, first remember they said that nothing happened. It was all delusional. The reporter, michelle fields, made it up. Then the video came out. They came up with another cover story. She assaulted him first. Which doesnt seem to be supported by the evidence. Were talking about a campaign thats intent on denying sort of the basic reality of what most of us can see plainly in the video. Thats a problem in and of its own right. On the larger scale, its about them denying that theres a culture of violence that comes from the top that has infiltrated the staff and the supporters and thats created an environment around the campaign thats increasingly dangerous. Has the potential for risky incidents. And for both of these things, the Trump Campaign has done what it wants to do, muddy the waters, make sure supporters have a narrative that they can push back with. Neverthele neverthele nevertheless, it has a countereffect for all of those who werent Trump Supporters who look at this and say this is not the way a president ial campaign should be. Is there a trump fatigue starting . Yes, his negative numbers are going up. We can extrapolate, in the primaries, sure, his supporters will believe whatever he says. Probably this wont affect their support. In the case it got to a general election, you will find more and more people. All the polling supports this, that are really put off by this lack of forthrightness and honesty. And that would really hurt him in the general election. A lot of republicans are looking at that saying trump is doing damage. If he were the nominee that would be huge lly problematic. We are learning more about how trump thinks and changes mind, actually, about world events in some cases were talking about undoing decades of American Foreign policy work. I want to talk a bit about listen to what donald trump said about Nuclear Weapons. At some point we have to say, you know what . Were better off if japan protects itself against this maniac in north korea. Were better off if south korea is going to start to protect itself saudi arabia . Absolutely. You have a problem with them having Nuclear Weapons . Not Nuclear Weapons but they have to protect themselves or pay us. What do you make of the donald trump Foreign Policy world view here as we get more clarity on it . Theres a micro problem here and a macro problem. I worked in japan for years. Japan will never get Nuclear Weapons. They have a firm policy being the one country who was under nuclear attack. Thats one thing. When he talks more and more about how this would unfold, its off base. The bigger issue is all this messages i was in europe, as you know, before the brussels attacks, people were upset. Officials all over the world i can tell you this firsthand because i spoke to them directly, look at these statements when trump says he wants to back away from nato and alliances, that has an affeter and theyre worried about that. Even if hes not president , they question americas relationship on these longstanding issues. His statements have second and third degree effects. Its pretty terrible. The more he talks, the less his Foreign Policy really makes sense. You could say his broad world view, which is that america should get more help and do less, is consistent in and of itself. Though the details dont make sense at all. All right. So many more moments to go through. Well come back to you later. Ted cruz and donald trump facing tough questions from Dairy Producers last night. Wisconsin is dairy country. The main issue how immigration policies could take workers out of the dairy industry. Ted cruz said arizona saved hundreds of millions of dollars after enacting tough immigration laws. His point a state spending on prison, schools and hospitals. The story says the savings from fewer hospital visits and incarcerations are far less, under 100 million. Disappearing manufacturing jobs also brought up last night. Its the issue resonating with angry voters. Those jobs are disappearing, the ones still here are hard to get, highly skilled manufacturing jobs. Cruz says education is the key. Trump blamed it on bad trade deals. At least eight terrorists are still on the loose two bombers still unidentified. You. No one was injured. Tuesdays incident while disturbing was not linked to terrorism. But theres still the question how did he get on the plane . How was he able to rush the cockpit in a post 9 11 and post Sharm El Sheikh world. We go to cairo for the latest. We say in a postSharm El Sheikh there was a bomb planted on a plane that took off from Sharm El Sheikh last october, and now this incident yesterday. Thats right. On that flight, over 200 people died. When this incident happened yesterday, the first thing everyone looked at was security at the airport. How did this person get on board this plane with what he said at the time was an explosive belt. That bomb turned out to be fake in the end. We did see security video of this man being patted down, being scanned by Airport Security. The egyptian officials are coming out saying that there was no fault of the security at the airport. That the person didnt have a bomb, and that he was let through like any other passenger. They will be reviewing it, especially with this persons criminal background as well. Impersonati impersonation, theft and drug dealing. He had been on the radar of Security Forces here. But right now he is in cyprus. Hes appearing in court today. This is a person who is also described as deeply disturbed. So nice to have you here today. Its 31 minutes past the hour. The three remaining republican candidates taking the cnn town hall stage in wisconsin. The state that holds the next president ial primary on tuesday. Donald trump, ted cruz, john kasich taking questions from voters on topics ranging from terrorism to jobs. Trump defending his Campaign Manager, Corey Lewandowski who was arrested and charged with simple battery after roughly grabbing the arm of a reporter. Trump says he wont fire lewandowski and even mocked that reporter, michelle fields. It would be so easy for me to terminate this man, ruin his life, ruin his family, he has four beautiful children in new hampshire. Ruin his whole everything and say youre fired, okay . I fired many people, especially on the apprentice. Look what she says, michelle fields, shes not a baby. In her own words, i was jolted backwards. Well, she wasnt she is standing there. Defuse had grabbed me tightly by the arm. Tightly. And yanked me down. She wasnt yanked down. She was she didnt have expression. Trump also walking away walking away from his pledge to support the eventual republican nominee. Repeating that hes been treated very unfairly by the Republican Party. In fact, all three candidates stepped back from that pledge. Cruz refusing to say he would back donald trump if trump becomes the nominee. Im not in the habit of supporting defuse who attacks my wife and attacks my family. I think thats going beyond the line. I think our wives, our kids should be off limits. They dont belong in the attack. Donald is not going to be the gop nominee. Trump and cruz both challenged on their rhetoric in the socalled now war of wives. I didnt start it. Thats i didnt start it. With all due respect, thats an argument of a 5yearold. No, its not. The argument of a 5yearold is he started it. Thats the problem with our country. Excuse me, no, no. Thats the problem. Exactly that thinking is the problem this country has. John kasich tried to stay above the free. I can say all kinds of things to get people stirred up. But leaders dont do that. Leaders tell people the way that they see it. Even if it means for a while youre unpopular. There were so many memorable moments in last nights town hall. Helping us to to break it down, josh rogan. Columnist for bloomberg view. He joins us from our Washington Bureau. Good morning. Good morning. Lets talk about this pledge. Not one, not two, but all three republican candidates backing down from supporting whoever the nominee is. Heres a listen from the town hall yesterday. Do you still stand by the pledge to support whoever the nominee, even if its donald trump . Well, anderson, as you mentioned what i said is true. Im not in the habit of supporting defuse who attacks my wife and my family. Obviously he doesnt have to support me. Im not asking for his support. Im asking for the peoples pledge. Do you pledge to support whoever the republican nominee is . No, i dont. You dont . Well see who it is. If its defuse dividing the country, i cant stand behind them. At least they agree on something. They wont support each other. What kind of impact, josh, does this have on whoever the nominee is, what impact does this have on the nomination process . Sure. Youre absolutely right in pointing out this was the biggest news of the night. All three republican candidates acknowledging their previous pledges to support whoever the nominee is are no longer valid. Thats a pretty public acknowledgment of was privately insiders and Campaign Officials have been saying for days if not weeks. That all bets are off. There was a presumption that the party would unify whoever got the votes. Thats no longer the case. Though ted cruz said last night his goal is to win the nomination outright. The cruz campaign, the kasich campaign, the not for Trump Movement are working on the same thing, to deny trump the delegates he needs to win the vote outright. To work the convention so that if he comes in under the limit, that they can keep him from getting the nominee. If he does come away with the nomination, to preserve the option of running a third candidate a conservative candidate, even against trump in the general election. All those things are on the table. Thats the reality. Now Everybody Knows it. So thats where we are. Theres the Republican Party no longer willing to get behind trump if he wins. Thats over. What that means come july, august and september is totally unpredictable. Josh, lets talk about Corey Lewandowski. This is the Campaign Manager for trump. Defuse who was involved in an encounter, well call it, after an event in florida. An encounter with a reporter. He was accused of grabbing her roughly and there was a simple Battery Charge yesterday against him. Donald trump in vintage donald trump form defending his man and some would say mocking the reporter. Listen to what donald trump said last night. By the way, she was grabbing me. Am i supposed to press charges against her . My arm is hurting anderson, my arm is killing me. Its never been the same. You are suggesting excuse me, i didnt suggest. I tweeted i tweeted. A tweet is a suggestion. Should i press charges . Are you going to. I dont know, maybe i should, right . She was she was grabbing me. Just so you understand, she was off base because she went through the secret service. She had a pep n in her hand, whh secret service is not liking because they dont know what it is. The Corey Lewandowski mess, does this help or hurt donald trump . If gives fodder for his opponents to say, look, you know, just grabbing a reporter is not acceptable. What does this mean for trump . This hurts him in a couple different ways. The litany of ridiculous explanations that her pen might be a bomb, for example, just show that the Trump Campaigns tether to truth and reality is getting more and more tenuous by the day. Theres not really a situation where the secret service would prevent reporters from having pens in the sense that they might be bombs. Thats not a real thing. On the one hand theyre just willing to sort of say anything to muddy the waters. On the larger scale, it tells you about how this campaign deals with the press, deals with public scrutiny, with a crisis. All of these are negative indicators. What theyll always say is Trump Supporters will believe what trump says and stand behind him. Thats not the game anymore. The game is for trump to appeal to general election voters in the case hes the nominee, to convince people hes honest and trustworthy, at least more than hillary clinton. This all works for him in the opposite direction. Its an example of how not to deal with a crisis. Maybe he gets a couple points for loyalty. Thats vastly overwhelmed by the absurdity of some of these explanations and the meanness of attacking a reporter who seems to have been assaulted, according to the video, and attacking her in by lying and fabricating an event and changing the story. It speaks to a campaign thats so reactive and sensitive and so vindictive its a campaign thats winning, josh. Its been a Winning Strategy for this candidate. Though this could be a turning point, though. Theres only so much that even his supporters can take. This may be going a little extreme. What i would say is, listen, the republican primary electoral represents 10 to 20 of those people who will actually vote in a general election. Were facing a situation where trump can probably win the republican primary, but when he gets to the general election, polls show this despite what the Trump Campaign says, his negatives are going up. Viability against the democratic candidate is going down. So, yes, in the small world of people who vote in the republican primary, it probably wont kill him or his chances. But in the broader sense of what hes trying to do, become president of the United States, yeah, i think its damaging over the long run. One other quick memorable moment that i remember from the discussions, the talk about nato. Donald trump basically dissing nato saying its outdated. Listen to this. Nato is obsolete. It was or over 60 years old. Its many countries, doesnt cover terrorism. To walk away from that alliance, are you kidding me . If we walk away and it gets weaker, how long do you think it will take the islamists to come over here . Some will support Donald Trumps argument saying that america does have a disproportionate burden for guaranteeing europes security, theres a lot of what donald trump said about nato that is not true. For one, natos involvement in terrorism. Here are some facts as context. The United States spends about 70 of the nato budget. Thats down over the last few years from about 75 or 80 . The second thing, natos largest mission ever has been the 14year commitment to the war in afghanistan against the taliban and al qaeda. Its literally the biggest counterterroism mission in the world. Hes wrong on the facts there. Theres a bipartisan call for europe to spend more. All of that is true. The Bigger Picture is we have a resurgent russia, Eastern Europe that is very much on the edge. A western europe thats facing a litany of threats, refugees, terrorism, all these things that nato is heavily involved in. And the first point is that trump is wrong on the facts. The second point is sending that message has its own affect. I can tell you there are a bunch of european leaders coming to town tomorrow for the Nuclear Security summit. Ill be talking to some of them today. I talked to some in europe last week. They all say the same thing. Why say that . What kind of message are you sending . Its terrible for american diplomacy, image, influence, power projection to disavow all of these alliances without coming up with a smart way to make your point and usher nato into a new era which probably has to be done. Hes wrong on the facts. The messaging is counterproductive, it speaks to his lack of depth on Foreign Policy, which i think john kasich pointed out. Even if he were president , he wouldnt necessarily have the powers to dismantle nate to. Josh rogan, thank you very much. Time for an early start on your money. Jobs and the economy, the u. S. Has lost 5 Million Manufacturing jobs since 2000. Those are from the labor department. The conventional wisdom is that america would go from lowskilled factory work to highskilled jobs. In 1960, about one in four American Workers had a job in manufacturing. That number today is 1 in 10. Those jobs that are left, many require highly skilled workers with specific Technical Skills or degrees. This is a big issue at the core here of so much debate. Dairy producers and farmers asked what they would do to get america back to work. Cruz said education is key. Trump says the key is fixing bad trade deals. Daily raids throughout brussels. The city on edge with at least two bombers and eight other terrorists on the run. Thats next. Rough night . I wish we had looked for a bigger place before he was born. Oh, when we wanted another place, first thing we did was check out credit karma made things a lot easier. That sounds exhausting. Actually, its really easy. And its free. That was easy check out credit karma today. Credit karma. Give yourself some credit. shush, shush, shush 47 minutes past the hour. Authorities in brussels trying desperately to find two unidentified suspects linked to last weeks deadly terror attacks. The death toll from the bombings stands at 32. With the fbi heavily involved in the case now, analyzing phones and hard drives seized by brussels police. American airlines announcing all of its flights to and from brussels are canceled through april 7th. Lets go live to brussels and bring in alexandra field for the latest. Good morning. Good morning. We are starting to hear it could be months before the airport here in brussels is fully operational again after it was devastated by the bombing that took place there a week ago. Efforts are underway to try to get it open on a partial basis, a more limited basis, but this is a place that serves some 60,000 people a day, so when it does open inshgspart, it will o on a smaller scale. At the same Time European Union institutions reopened yesterday after the easter holiday. That was done under heavy security. And Security Police and forces are still throughout brussels thats because the major manhunt continues in this city and beyond. Authorities are looking for the third suspected bomber at the airport and a second possible bomber from the subway station. There are still 94 people who remain in the hospital fighting the injuries that they suffered just a week ago. The death toll now 32 victims killed in those two blasts. So you see this city trying to get back to normal a week after the suicide bombings. The city still really on edge there. Are you hearing reports from authorities about any information, any intelligence coming from the suspects that have been arrested . Look. We have seen them conduct a number of raids in the last week. We know there were three more arrests made over the weekend after they took in some nine people. So, it seems what theyre doing is conducting raids, bringing in people, trying to question them. Were seeing various charges come out. But what stunned people in this city was to see the release of the man identified by authorities as faycal c. He was charged with terrorist murder, attempted terrorist murder. So people believe authorities had solid evidence in order to levee those charges, but after he was held for several days a magistrate found the evidence was not sufficient to proceed with those charges. So, it does seem authorities are casting a wide net. Theyre trying to bring in everyone who could have possible information and at the same time we do see them releasing people who appear to be no longer useful to the investigation. As far as what information theyre collecting from these people, thats something that authorities are keeping a lid on right now. Alexandra field reporting from brussels, thank you very much. New questions raised about the state of Airport Security in egypt after a man authorities call mentally unstable with a criminal record hijacks an egyptair flight wearing what looks like an explosive vest. No one was injured. Tuesdays incident, while disturbing, was not linked to terrorism, but there are still a lot of questions including how did he get on the plane and how was he able to rush the cockpit in a post 9 11 post Sharm El Sheikh world. Do they know, ian, how he got on that plane . They released the video of him going through Airport Security, not just one checkpoint, but two checkpoints, having his luggage scanned. He went through another checkpoint where we see him going through a metal detector, and the officer then pats him down. The Egyptian Government has said everything was done to the letter. That Airport Security didnt fail because at the end we found out that the explosive device that he claimed he had was, in fact, fake. But there are they are going to review security. Theyre going to be looking at this, especially how this deranged man, what the scypriot and egyptians are calling him pulled this off.
