Stretches from canada 20 miles from the prison to mexico where one of the inmates was once incarcerated. Authorities are also zeroing in on how richard matt and david sweat managed to escape and just who might have helped them. Lets get the latest from cnns jason carroll. Reporter john and christine, investigators following up on hundreds of leads that come in. One in particular in terms of the investigation has to do with the woman who works here at the prison. She knew richard matt and david sweat. Knew them well. Tailoring clothe wass at the prison. Both of them in side by side cells and got a hold of power tools and able to cut through a steel wall and move down a catwalk and crawl through pipes 24 inches wide and move through a manhole a block or so from the prison. I spoke to a man who used to work at the prison. He used to be a guard at the prison. Worked here for some 40 years. He says everything he knows about the prison leads him to believe the men had at the very least inside help. Inside help there. Reporter inside or outside or combination . Probably a combination of both. You dont cut through a steel wall without somebody hearing it. Reporter despite the violent pasts from the inmates, both were housed in the honor block of the prison. This is the place in the prison where inmates are put who exhibited good behavior. As a result they had access to other resources, added resources with washers and dryers and outdoor time and access to phones and televisions. Things of that nature. In terms of the investigation where we stand now in this massive manhunt, still some more than 300 members of Law Enforcement on the ground. At this point, they could be anywhere. Christine, john.
