Should embrace the gay community. Im john berman. Christine romans is off today. It is tuesday, october 14th. 4 00 a. M. In the east. There is clear concern among cdc officials this morning. The fear is there could be more cases of ebola transmission like the dallas nurse who became infected. Others who cared for Thomas Eric Duncan could become infected the same way. That nurse has now been identified as nina pham. Cdc director Thomas Frieden says pham is stable. She has received a blood transfusion from dr. Kent brantly. Now doctors are racing to see how pham became infected. Cnns Victor Blackwell is in dallas with more. Reporter good morning. We learned that nina pham received her certification in Critical Care nursing two months before treating Thomas Eric Duncan at the hospital. A person who knows the family well through the church says pham likely was doing more than she was supposed to have done in treating this patient. That is what the person told the local newspaper and cdc detectives are here in dallas trying to determine if all of the protocols were followed. We heard from the hospital on monday, they were quick to point out a statement by dr. Frieden when he on monday backed on something he said the day before. He said obviously there was a breach of protocol that led to the infection. On monday, he said some people took that as blaming the nurse or hospital. That was not his intention. Immediately after that, the hospital sent out a quote highlighting that frieden said ebola is the enemy here. Not a hospital, not a person, not a country. The virus is the enemy. Eventually no one should blame us. At least not yet. The investigation is continuing here in dallas. John. Thanks, victor. The National Nurses union says Health Care Workers are not getting the training or the protective equipment they need. Renee quartez tells cnn ebola is a disaster waiting to happen without the proper training. This morning, there are new questions about the training involved in the case of the spanish nurses assistant in spain. Teresa ramos remains in the hospital. Her husband called for the health smminister to resign. He said his wife received 30 minutes of training to use the protective gear. I want to turn to nic robertson. Nic, i have never seen anything like that letter the husband wrote. Reporter john, what were learning here is perhaps new details. It is new details or new specifics from family and friends of maria ramos. What we are told is she has at the moment a pulmonary endema. A lung infection between the chest wall. The nights are worst for teresa. She fears the nights. Thats when her condition deteriorates. We dont know her situation this morning. Until now, the hospital describes her as critical, but stable. There is talk she has been conscious. The concern of her friends at the moment is this problem that she is having with her breathing with her lungs. The friends also tell us the very distraught situation that her husband is in right now, not just writing the letter calling for the Regional Health minister to resign, but in fact saying if spain put in place the protective measures, posttreating people with ebola, for Health Care Professionals, if they were monitored after treating people with ebola, then perhaps his wife would be in a better situation right now. The husband is very critical indeed of officials here, john. Raising more questions about the Health Care System there. Perhaps a lesson for what should be done here in the united states. Nic robertson, i appreciate it. Kim jongun has been out and about. North korea state media releasing two photos of kim. His disappearance fueled speculation of his health and a possible coup in north korea. We have cnns Paula Hancocks with the latest from seoul. Reporter john, north korea tv is broadcasting a news bulletin and showing photos of kim jongun doing what he does best. When he walks around a building that is about to be built and tells people how it should be done. This is what we are seeing now. We do see photos of him with a cane which shows many of the analysts we spoke to and also the south korean government saying leadership was in tact, but it seems he has health issues. Were in fact correct. It seems that is what is going on the past five weeks he has been missing. Certainly many analysts are not surprised he suddenly turned up now. It should be mentioned, there are no dates on the photos. We dont know when they were taken. The news article, he is on the front page of the newspaper. It doesnt say when he carried out this visit. That is still up in the air. It lays waste to the enthusiasm rumors we is been hearing over suggestions of a coup and he had been deposed from power. It doesnt appear so, at least from the photos. We have not seen any footage. We see photos early on in the day. It is 5 00 p. M. Local time. We will have another broadcast in three hours. We can see how he is moving around. John. Now all we see is the cane. We had seen a limp for a few weeks before he simply up and vanished. We have to wait for that footage. Paula hancocks, thanks to you. And everybody who has a high profile, all sports figures are engaged in charity and should not mitigate a longer sentence. It seems a bit meanspirited to be fair. The defense will call one more witness and the prosecution will start calling witnesses to argue for a longer sentence. Yesterday, a Correctional Services officer came on and said that the appropriate sentence for pistorius should be a threeyear Correctional Services. Those total shifts have become a hallmark of pope francis. Reporter its very important, actually. It is not just a question of language. Language also denotes ideas and content. The first october tornado deaths since 2009. One a 33yearold marine and a 75yearold woman. Here is the threat today. 36 Million People impacted today as well. Look at this line. From the great lakes to the southeast. Heading to the east. The threat for tornadoes is there today. Not quite as high as yesterday. The threat today more of the heavy rain and very strong damages wind gusts. Here is where the tornado watches are. Watches mean the atmosphere is right for tornadoes to develop. Including atlanta until 11 00 until 7 00. This one along the Florida Gulf Coast here. Strong storms moving through here this morning. A tornado watch meaning some of the storms have the potential to spin and of course put down tornadoes. Atlanta, georgia, a rough go in the southeast if you are driving. This is what we have seen. Tornadoes as of yesterday, 13 reports of tornadoes. 223 over 200 very incredibly strong wind reports and hail. At least 17. Hail, we will see this morning as well. Here is the pattern. This is the culprit. This dip in the jet stream. That shifting east. Thus the Severe Weather threat shifts east, john. Here is the area of concern, atlanta east. Atlanta is a huge delta hub. Our cnn correspondent arwa damon has the latest from the syrian turkey border. Good morning, arwa. Reporter good morning, john. Isis, right now, according to the fighter and others inside kobani we have been speaking to focusing all of the efforts to capture the Border Crossing with kobani, syria and turkey. To give you an idea of how close they are to accomplishing that. Our camera will zoom in showing you silos on top of the turkish flag. Isis has a position that is 700 meters behind where that flag is located and they control everything to the south of that. The fighting centered around that strategic Border Crossing. Ypg fighters doing what they can to hold isis back. They dont have the weapons, they dont have the manpower to do it indefinitely. They do not have adequate resupply lines. If isis is able to capture that Border Crossing, that means that virtually all of their supply lines are logistical lines and they are remaining civilians to get to safety is closed off. Isis for its part has plenty of logistical routes to choose. One fighter telling us they were bringing tanks in from the south and east and west. That is the key problem when it comes to the streettostreet battles. Isis is moving around in tanks. One fighter was describing how during one of the battles he was firing a rocketpropelled grenade at a tank when isis fighters moved in front of the tank and locked hands to block the rocketpropelled grenade. They died and the tank fired on the ypg position. The fighter saying the isis people that they have out there, the fighters, whether syrian or foreign, are absolutely fearless, john. We have been looking at pictures behind you for several days and a couple of weeks of the battle waging in kobani. Isis closer to taking it over, the kurds seem to be holding out. What would be diseaecisive here . What would give the kurds the push they need to push out isis . Reporter the kurds need what they have been calling for all along. A weapons corridor. They also want to see Additional Air strikes and a greater level of coordination and cooperation with themselves and the coalition. They also need more fighters on the ground. Again, all goes down to having the weapons abilities to continue taking out those isis tanks. Rockets isis has been firing relentlessly. Isis for its part, these are fighters to fight until the death. They are fearless. They will stop at nothing. They will carry out suicide bombing without thinking twice about it. They have fighters and weapons at their disposal. Arwa damon at the border with kobani on the brink. Arwa, thanks. 48 minutes after the hour. Pushing for prison time.
