It feels like almost every morning we talk about when republicans in washington, mostly republican senators are finally going to stand up to this president and say enough is enough, but you have been doing some great reporting at the post on what you call the quiet resistance among Election Officials at state and local level who are really refusing to go along with the president s gambit here. What did you find . Yeah, we found that a number of the state and local lawmakers that the president is putting pressure on, theyre not buckling under that pressure, at least not yet. They are not moving forward with the president s attempt at power grabby saying theyre going to appoint electors for trump, even though their states voted for biden. They are giving lip services, but they are not moving forward with the this unprecedented attempt to steal the election by, you know, having electors from the state level appoint electors t electors that are focused on supporting trumps, even though their state voted for biden. Its interesting to see them move forward with certification, even though the Trump Legal Team wants to have the votes certified for trump, even though he lost in many of these states. Its interesting theres a push back going on at the state level even as theres silence at the national level. Some states have laws explicitly against doing what the president is trying to do. In other cases, the state law is silent, and the Trump Campaign seems to be taking advantage of the silence. As you say, the officials arent going along with this plan. Yeah, thats exactly right. There are a number of states where its blatantly illegal to try to do this, and theres other states where its a little bit more murky. There have not been state lawmakers that have actually said lets move forward, lets overturn the will of our voters and appoint electors for trump. You alluded to some of the failures of the Trump Legal Team, and theres thousand infighting among some of these attorneys. Theyre now distancing themselves from Sidney Powell. She has sort of played conspiracy mad libs, talking about cuba and hugo chavez, and at some point, elvis, and big foot i expect. Despite her incendiary and ridiculous claims, they are not that different than what we have heard from Rudy Giuliani who is supposedly the leader of the legal team, so why are they now putting distance between themselves and her.
