Somebody said treasonous. Why not . The president compares democrats with people trying to overthrow the government because they would not stand to applaud during the state of the union. Good morning. Welcome to early start. Im Christine Romans. Nice to have you back. During the talk, the president said he is not braggadocios. Words were not used accurately. Im dave briggs. It is tuesday, february 6th. 4 00 a. M. In the east. We start with market concerns. Investor concerns not quieting yet after the epic selloff on wall street. Dow with the single biggestpoint loss ever. The futures are wall street are rebounding after falling sharply overnight. We have Christine Romans fortunate with us with a look at what is behind the drop and how long it could last, my friend. The selloff is not over. Global markets now. Wall street plunge is rippling. Tokyo and hong kong and shanghai are down. Red arrows on the top of the screen. Europe opened an hour ago. Following suit with two losses. Dow futures just popped higher. This is dow futures up 148 points. They were down more than 700 points overnight. It gives you a sense of how wild this Market Sentiment is at the moment. The dow lost more than 1,800 points in the past two days. Monday was brutal. Shedding a record 1,175 points. It is something i have never said before in 20 years of covering stock markets. More than 1,000 points. 4. 6 . A bigpoint loss. We he had a big run up that percentage wise, it is shy of 5 . This is a rebound. Look here. We got down to 24,000. The average was down to 1,600 points. The dows worst day in six years. Wiping out the dow gains for the year. What is going on . A couple of things. The trigger was the jobs report friday. Particularly strong wage growth. 2. 9 wage growth. It is bad for corporate profits. The fed reserve may need to raise rates faster than planned. The biggest concern. A selloff in the bond market. Bond yields hit a fouryear high friday. As yields go up, bonds offer better returns. Even if stocks continue to drop today, there is no chance of a crash or panic. I want to be clear about that. Stocks have not hit a 10 drop or correction. That is long overdue. Conditions are good. Dave, the economy is strong. The job market is robust. Companies will make a ton of money this year. This is not about the economy right now. This is about the stock market that has gone straight up for now almost ten years of expansion and old expansion. This is what is looks like in the late stages of expansion when you have a bond market telling you the economy could get overheated. We are still up 30 since election day, the dow. It is tough to couple that because the president is cheering. Is this live by the sword or die by the sword . This is why treasury secretaries and president s dont talk about the market as a cheerleader. This president has taken a new role as cheerleader in chief. He has taken credit for the rallies and records. It will be interesting to see if he tones that down now. 1,000 point decline. You know 1,000 point rally he would give himself credit. See if he is more traditional in how he talks about the stock market. Sarah sanders said the president s focus is longterm economic fundamental. See if that shifts. Thank you, my friend. Trumps lawyers are urging him not to sit for the interview with special counsel robert mueller. The house teenageintelligence ce voted to make public the rebuttal over the surveillance laws memo. The president has five days to decide to declassify the memo. The house has now approved the democrats memo to come here to the white house. It is up to the president now whether he will declassify it. It was a test of transparency considering the justification for releasing the nunes memo from the white house was transparency. It will be interesting to see how the white house handling this now it has the democrats memo. White house Officials Say the democrats memo will go through the same process as the republican memo. It will be scrubbed and reviewed by white house lawyers. The question is will there be any redactions. The republicans on capitol hill said they already made changes from the fbi input before it came here to the white house. Adam schiff, the ranking democrat in the house Intelligence Committee, came out and said he is concerned the white house will redact part of the memo. It remains to be seen what will happen. The president has five days to review the memo and make the decision on whether or not to declassify it. Back to you. Thank you, pamela. Steve bannon will not appear before the House Committee today. Failing to comply with a subpoena. The committee has not reached the agreement on the scope of the questioning. The committee delayed bannons return twice to decide if he could discuss events with the transition and time in the white house. There is a man who knows what treason means. President trump mocking democrats for the stonefaced reaction to the state of the union address. The president addressing tax reform outside cincinnati on monday when he said this about democrats refusing to stand and acknowledge low black unemployment during the state of the union. They would rather see trump do badly, okay, than our country do well. Thats what it means. Its selfish. Even on possibitive news like t, they were like death. And unamerican. Unamerican. Somebody said treasonous. Yeah, i guess, why not. Shall we call that treason . Why not. I mean they certainly didnt seem to love our country very much. Somebody said treasonous.
