Some are sitting in their cars. Rallies are not a good thing. Its like the era of the drive in rally. Trump is literally sur reality. Its surreal. If he wins its a figuratively middle finger to math and covid and acceptance of the is what it is recklessness as this virus continues to wreck us. Trump keeps telling people in florida to come out for him in rallies because things are Getting Better in florida. Here are the facts. Leave the map up. Its the third day in a row of more than 4,000 new cases and again, this state does not have a great track record of telling the truth about its numbers. Look at the cdc report about the deaths and the thousands of lives that may have been lost and not recorded. He said that in a debate. Is it true . No. We do have some clear evidence theres been people who have become infected as a result of these rallies. The cause and effect. Its hard to do when you have over 80,000 people becoming infected every day. Just too many people. It would be a whole sector of our society. How do you know . We decided to look at theese counties. 17 rallies in these counties and looked at what happened in the four weeks before and the four weeks after these rallies and compare it to the counties around these counties in the same state. Not surprising the numbers are going up everywhere. We already knew that. We found 82 of the time, cases went up in the county right after the president s visit, within a few weeks after the president s visit and half the time it was out of proportion as compared to the rest of the state. Numbers are going up, yes. They are going up more so in those places not surprisingly where people are aggregating together in these big sort of even events. The virus is spreading. We even took it one step further and said if you start to have several hundred people gathering together in most places in the country right now, you got a 95 to 99 chance that youre going to encounter the virus. Youre going to be exposed. Doesnt mean youll get infected but the virus is attending those events ae lolong with every onee thats there. David gregory had the virus. He beat it quickly. Help me understand the messaging on this. Trump says you vote for biden, hell close down the economy. Biden says, no i wont. Ill listen to the scientists fp what if the scientists tell him to shut things down again. People are afraid of the pan demonstrate demonstratic b demic but they are afraid of shut things down. How do you walk this line . Tell the truth and prepare the country for whats ahead and what were going through. I dont understand the president who can Say Something thats not true, which is were rounding the corner which everybody can see is not the truth in their communities. At the same time successfully raise the fears of people who think that theres a shut down mentality that another politician will have thats going to have an impact on every one. The reality is if theres change of leadership if biden becomes the president elect. Its like the financial crisis in 2008 going into 2009. Its a hell of a problem for gna new president to face. That reality will be lard. The data point that sanjay is talking about, i talked to a good friend in the chicago area and its kind of like sanjay is talking about the gatherings at these rallies. What they are seeing in suburban chicago where its colder here in the fall, more and more people getting hospitalized, hospitalizations doubled in the past seven days is because more and more people are congregating inside. Ive been talking about the outdoor rallies. People have the fatigue. People dont have goot fad fact. They dont have good testing. Even preop testing is up dramatically for less than 1 for four months straight now 4, 5, 6 Positivity Rates they are seeing. Thats the reality today that youre seeing one data point in the chicago area. Im coming back to sanjay. We know that more republicans are respected as a percentage to come out on election day than early voting but the context, weve had four of our five deadliest days, most case days in the last week. This is coming to a head right as the election is coming to a head. How big a deal is early voting in the context of People Living this reality and having chance to vote each day and also worried about going out on election day because its getting worse everywhere . Right. Look at florida. Right now biden is doing well among older voters who are the more vulnerable voters in term of getting the virus. Are you going to see voters who are reluctant to come out on election day . There im thinking about republicans who you think are more likely to vote on election day if they are die hard trump supporters, will they still come out . Are you going to see long lines in your polling place and decide main maybe i dont do it. I dont feel comfortable. Thats a big question. Its why theres been an emphasis on early voting. We have seen republicans camping up in some areas of early voting. Theres been a big emphasis on the part of the president and other allies saying we got to win it on the turn out of election day. I want people to know and we have harry, the wizard of oz coming on later to show theres opinion contraction in the polls. You may like it, you may not. Even on early voting we have seen a contraction in the polls where the republicans are dampidamp i camping up. Florida, North Carolina, nevada and iowa. Well be watching that. This is far from over. Sanjay, the pandemic is far from over also. Here is what is alarming to me unless you have better information. Even though everything ismetric i get no information that the administration is saying, look, we got to ramp this up right now because after the election we have to be able to announce x, that were going into a fnew phase of fighting this thing. I hear no word of that. Everybody is told stand down. The virus will really control that decision because hospitals start to become overwhelmed then the hospital administrators will be calling mayors and governors saying time out. It may not be a full on shutdown but weve got to break the cycle of transmission in these areas where the virus is spreading too much chr much, which is many, many places around the country, as you know. If we can show this graphic of the Positivity Rate, you talk about Positivity Rates, that means you test 100 people, how many of them come back positive. Youd like that number to be below three. Right now in south dakota, 46 . Its hard to even believer. Idaho 35 . Wisconsin even at the bottom, 27 . What that means is a lot of people out there who have the virus and dont know it. Theyre not being tested and they dont know it and they are continuing to spread and thats driving the surge. The president says thats just because we test too much. Itd mea means were not test enough. Youre a fisherman. Its like putting your net down. If you get one fish and think theres not that many fish. You put your met donet down and this place must be crawling with fish. High Positivity Rate means youre crawling with fish. We dont know it. It means this five, ten times maybe as many people out there with the virus that arent getting tested. Were not testing enough. The chicago da that that i was just telling you about, it was preop covid tests, those are asymptomatic tests. Youre seeing those Positivity Rates go up and what are we hearing about in battleground florida is theres a move afoot to eliminate asymptomatic testing. This goes to what the administration preparing for if theres a second term to deal with the whaereality of what we facing. First, help me understand something that maybe in the weeds but matters here. Why is the federal court ruling when these are state law issues. We saw that distinction in pennsylvania and wisconsin. Pennsylvania, they left it alone because it was state court reckoning in constitution. In wisconsin they stepped in because they said a federal court cant decide state matters this way. This is strangest case of all but i want us to get to the solution here. This was two electors, two republican electors that brought the suit. There had been an agreement with the Republican Party and the Trump Campaign about how to do this with the secretary of state. They bring this to court. It goes up to the a scircuit an with a 21 decision, the aid r circuit said even though you have been told this for months, they have have to been severed by election day. Here is our problem. Theres over 500,000 ballots in peoples hands. The ones that have been mailed in by now are probably just fine. I dont know. Depends on when they were mailed in and how the service is. Service little better than aver r average in minnesota. Ask the people in minnesota who have those over 500,000 ballot and thats over 500,000 people no matter where they are right now, that they not mail them in in the morning. They will think they can. They will think they can do it right up to election day. Under this court ruling right now, they cant. What they should do is take their mail in ballots to a drop off box or go vote themselves. Minnesota has the highest voter turn out in the country. Nearly every time. They are used to voting in person. They can do this. If you have mail in ballot. I cant vote in person. I just got this. I have this already. I cant vote in person. Can they . They can. They can bring their they can do it two ways be p they can bring their mail in ballot to a drop off box. They can find out where it is at iwillvote. Com. Where . The other way they can vote they are used to in minnesota, highest voter turn out, they can go vote early. Very easy to veote early. Even if they have mail in ballot . Yes. They can go in there and tell them i got one but im not using it. They cant vote twice. Despite what the president says. The very last thing, the last way they can vote on is election day. We have safe voting in minnes a minnesota. As mad as i am about this at the last minute, as mad as i am that two republican electors can do this and two appointed republican judges can rule this way, i still believe we can make it through. Why . One, joe biden is ahead in minnesota consistently and hes doing so well here. I was just out at the rural parts of our state and theres so much support for him out there. Number two, people in minnesota, they used to voting and they didnt always vote by mail. A lot of them have. 1. 5 million. Their ballots are in. What they can do is take the mail in bat lllots, bring them a drop off box. Thats can vote in person. Whats the website . Any reviews outside of minnesota, email them, text them, call them. This is one of the closest calls. We only have five days left. We just got this court ruling. I refuse to let the Republican Party tell the people of my state they have lost their right to vote. People are waiting on another Court Decision from Supreme Court, good luck on that. The remedy that was prescribed by liberals on the court was let florida, give it back to the florida Supreme Court. Let them figure out their own uniform way of counting throughout the entire state. If you disagree with the courts decision, at least most americans can agree with who makes the decision and then our system, the Supreme Court interpreted the laws. Of course, President Trump threatened to tear the country apart and refuse to peacefully accept the results of the election if it doesnt go the way he wants. I think that should disqualify him in the minds of fair minded people. Some will disagree. You know the other thing is, the Republican Party should listen to the reasonable voices in their party and stop trying to use the courts as a political instrument. It should not be used that way. You know, this president has put forward ten judges for the court for the federal courts that were rated unqualified to be judges by the american bar association. They picked these young ideological warriors and then the republicans in the senate have said, yes, sir and with most all of them have confirmed them. If youre concerned about the way the courts take up some of these politically charged cases, insist that they appoint qualified people and that senators in both parties vet them thoroughly. Do you, in looking at whats happening with the voting deadlines litigation now, does it smack familiar to you what the Democratic Party endured in 2000 . I think this election is likely to be very different, chris. Im knocking on wood here because i dont know what the result is going to be. I have a very strong feeling that the vast majority of americans, including a significant percentage of republicans have watched and listened to donald trump for four years and have concluded that we need somebody better as president. Somebody who does not say crazy things all the time. Someone who does not tell so many falsehoods that the newspapers and the news media cant keep up with them anymore. I am hoping that the result on tuesday and the days following even weeks following if necessary to count all the votes, im hoping the total is going to be decisive. Just as with the pandemic, we can decide to act on the basis of the best available facts and listen to the scientists who know what they are talking about or we can succumb to the temptation to do whatever seems to be politically convenient in the short term. What is your big fear about if the president wins with respect to the pandemic and by extension, dealing with other scientific urgencies like Global Climate change . Well, to take the last part of your question first, were in an extraordinarily hopeful time, chris because china, japan, south korea and the European Union have all just in the last few weeks made major historic new commitments to much faster reductions in Global Warming pollution. The stage is set for the United States of america under a new president , hopefully, to come back in as the namp rtural leadf the global kpluncommunity and r take this Climate Crisis under control and start makiing the changes that can create millions of jobs and deal with this threat to the future of humanity. The same thing is true with the pandemic if we have a president who will listen to the scientists and listen to the doctors and not play politics with it. To directly answer your question, i do not have fear. I have so much confidence in the American People having seen and heard what they have seen and heard for four years, i have confidence theyre going to make an overwhelming judgment. I hope and pray im not wrong about that but i feel confidence in it because im confident in the American People. The polls can be more wrong in 2016 but even if you take the discount in as the polls being wrong in 2016, joe biden is still in the contest that it matters. Before you answer the rest of the question about why it is different with clinton. Florida i would say biden wants it. Trump needs it. There is no viable realistic path for trump without it. There is with biden. Is that true or is it true that both of them need it because biden needs to stop trump and if he stops trump in florida, he stops him, period. In donald trump does not win the state of florida, it is very difficult to draw electoral map or get to 270 electoral votes. If joe biden loses the state of florida then he can still pull off wins in wisconsin and michigan. That would get him to 278 electoral votes. Yes, i agree with you 100 . Biden would love to have florida, he would knock trump out of the way. Now why biden is not clinton part two, why . Look at the favorable rating. Hillary clinton was not wellliked heading into the 2016. Her favor rating was 46 . Joe bidens rating is 55 . This is a key fact of the 2016 election.
