Reporter despite the historic occasion a gentle reminder this remains a city still vigilant still wary. For which on this day stands strong and defiant. A unity that may prove to be their biggest weapon against terror. Isa sourez cnn, paris. And there was worldwide support for the people of france sunday. In brussels 20,000 people marched silently holding pens and signs that read united against hatred. In england, marchers gathered and famous monuments were decorated in french colors. Hundreds gathered outside the French Embassy singing the National Anthems from both countries. And in cairo, egypt, you see journalists standing on the steps in a show of support for france. And timely across the middle east smaller rallies of support. The french flag flying high in ramallah. One of the paris gunman Amedy Coulibaly, was shot dead by police after they say he killed four hostages at a kosher food store, but hes still being heard from on jihadist websites. So with an isis flag in the background coulibaly describes himself as a soldier of the caliphate and warns the west you attack isis we attack you. Cnns erin mcglocklin joins us live from paris. So Amedy Coulibaly has spoken from the grave via this video and revealed to investigators a disturbing link to isis after we already understood the kouachi brothers were aligned with al qaeda. What more are investigators learning from this video specifically . Reporter authorities here in france are still working to get a clearer picture of just who these terrorists were and their potential links. Now, yesterday, as you mentioned, a 1ridvideo emerged online of Amedy Coulibaly. In that video he pledges allegiance to isis and issues an threat. He describes the Charlie Hebdo attackers as brothers saying things were done together and things were done apart for a bigger impact. Authorities are working to verify the authenticity of this video and looking into the veracity of his claims and the nature of his relationships. French media is reporting that police have identified coulibalys hideout in a southern suburb of paris. Theyre saying they found a number of items, including cash and isis flags, weapons and detonators. Investigators currently looking for any clues that his 26yearold girlfriend and fugitive Hayat Boumediene may have been in that apartment, as well. Interesting to note the dates of that apartment was rented from january 4th to january 11th. Were also getting more information about coulibalys activities last week. Hes now suspected of having blown up a car outside of a kabab shot and suspected of shooting a jogger. All of this leading to more xes about his relationship with the kouachi brothers and his affiliation to isis. Interesting connection there with isis and al qaeda in the arabian peninsula. French president hollande is meet thing hour with his cabinet ministers and security is tight there. What options are available to the french government to prevent any future attacks on these soft targets . Reporter that is a question on the minds of many here in france. Theres also plenty of questions about why the government did not prevent these attacks, especially when you consider the kouachi brothers were under surveillance up until june 2014 at which point they had, according to reports, been deemed no longer a threat. Lots of questions as to how these terrorists were able to get ahold of so many illegal weapons. Questions about whether or not they have any other unknown links or affiliations out there. Meanwhile, security here in paris is on its highest alert after security Sources Say Police were briefed that a terror cell has been recently activated. So tensions here in the city are very high. Its very much, rosemary, a city on edge. I understand that for sure. Erin reporting there from paris, many thanks to you. We want to return now to our other breaking news story. The chief investigator of downed airasia flight 8501 says the cockpit voice recorder has been located, but not yet retrieved. A search and rescue team has recovered the flight data recorder. We brought that to you breaking news some time ago. Were joined now from jakarta, indonesia, with all the details. And david, this has been such a significant turning point. Unfortunately we appear to have lost him. Were going to try to reestablish that link with david there in jakarta and will return to him. Lets take a very short well we have him back i hear. David, not sure what went wrong there, but we understand we have you back now. All right. So this really significant turning point, isnt it in the investigation and the effort to determine what happened to airasia flight 8501. Now talk to us about how quickly they will be able to answer some of these questions. One of the black boxes weve lost him again. Lets take a break now and try to reestablish a better communication link there. Just ahead, more violence in nigeria. Backtoback bombings target crowded markets. One of them involving a girl as young as 10. But first, in the wake of the paris attacks, we talk with a military analyst about what might be a shifting strategy for terror groups. Thats just ahead. With tmobile and iphone 6 you can make wifi calls beyond the reach of cellular networks. Hey brandon whats up . So you can talk from down here. Smile for grandma or text pictures from up here. Ok, there we go, should we send a photo . You can even make calls, way over here. Talk and text over wifi, with wifi calling on iphone 6. Only from tmobile. Now get iphone 6 for 0 down. Fact. When you take advil you get relief right at the site of pain. Wherever it is. Advil stops pain right where it starts. Relief doesnt get any better than this. Advil. Welcome back everyone. Lets return to that other breaking news story we were following. We know that both black boxes have been recovered now in relation to airasia flight 8501. And we have reestablished communications with cnns david malgo joining me now from jakarta, indonesia, on the phone. So david, this is such a significant turning point, isnt it . How soon before they can recover this second black box, the cockpit voice recorder and how soon before they can start answering some of these many questions from the data recorder that has been retrieved and is on its way to jakarta . Reporter rosemary certainly a major break through on day 16 of this search. Weve been talking about this for the past couple of weeks. We are going through a major thunderstorm right now in jakarta. In the search zone a few hundred kilometers north of us the problem is the underwater currents are kicking up. We got a report that they couldnt put divers into the water because the underwater currents were too dangerous and moving too fast. We did hear from the Investigative Authority that will pursue what happened to flight 8501. They are 100 sure about the location of the cockpit voice recorder. Its just a matter of time before they can get down there and locate it. If the underwater current is too dangerous for divers, it took take more time. The other side of this the flight data recorder is on a ship now. If it is in relatively good condition, not damaged by fire or water or the crash itself if they can get to the data relatively quickly, it could just be a matter of days before we have the beginnings of the pieces of the puzzle of somewhat happened on board that flight. Some of the information that flight data recorder will tell us the altitude of the plane, the speed, the direction it was heading. We talked a lot about the crew of flight 8501 requesting a change in altitude also to turn to avoid a storm potentially. The flight data recorder will tell us that and tell us what happened on board that plane in its final moments. Rosemary . David, locating these two black boxes is critical. But the other part of this story is the other souls on the plane, still under water in the fuselage that hasnt been located at this time. Has there been any progress in that department . Reporter rosemary certainly the fact that they found the flight data recorder under the wreckage of one of the wings suggests they are closer to the main wreckage. 48 bodies have been recovered at this point, more than 100 are still unaccounted for. We just had a chance to talk to one of the families a gentleman lost seven relatives on board that flight there. Still waiting for news about some of them. He said he was very happy to hear news about the flight data recorder. He understands how critical sit to the investigation. But he said please please continue to search for the missing bodies. He feels the search for the black poxes have become the priority and is asking for emphasis to be put equally on the president of indonesia, rosemary promising that this search and rescue effort will continue until every Single Person is returned home. David molko joining us there on the phone from jakarta, indonesia. Problems earlier because of those thunderstorms there in jakarta. Many thanks to you. Learning more about one of the attackers. France radio reports authorities found isis flags, automatic weapons inside an apartment Amedy Coulibaly had rented. He was filled in fridays siege on a Kosher Grocery store. The terror group isis is renews its calls for attacks in several nations, including france the United States and australia. This as investigators look into the possibility that the paris attackers may have been working on behalf of that group as well as al qaedas affiliate in yemen. I discussed this just a short time ago with colonel Rick Francona a cnn military analyst and former intelligence officer. Take a listen. Why would they be working together why would they be in the same cell . I think that was a tactical decision to Work Together because working together they were able to do something, because these cells, by their very structure, they dont know who else is in the country. There may be many more of these cells operating unbeknownst to this particular cell. This cell happens to be the two brothers coulibaly and his wife Hayat Boumediene. So just like politics war makes strange bed fellows. It was a Tactical Alliance to get an operation done. We have seen isis and al qaeda elements working together tactically in syria, but only for a short period of time. Of course as we reported police in the United States and other countries across the globe, are on alert. The worry here of course we watch these attacks play out in paris, the worry is these soft targets. This appears to be the new approach that these terrorist organizations are taking. Its very difficult to guard against those sorts of attacks. What do you do in those instances . Thats the problem. Youre absolutely right, because these cells are so small and they conduct themselves very very quietly. So theyre below the radar. You dont really know theyre there until they conduct an operation and then its too late. Look how much damage look how many people just three people were able to kill in the space of two days. This is really the wave of the future. I think unfortunately what were seeing here is the first wave. And unfortunately since al qaeda and isis view this as a successful operation, because it has had a worldwide impact. Were going to see more of these. Im afraid were going to see them in other countries, as well. France was maybe just the start. You mentioned the other countries, what do they have in common . Theyre all involved in the fight against isis. Sobbering words there. Backtoback bombings have targeted crowded nigerian markets and the militant group suspected in one of the blasts has also carried out what could be its deadliest attack yet. We are back in a moment and well explain. Welcome back everyone. At least three people were killed and 43 injured in Northern Nigeria after Police Say Two suicide bombers targeted a mobile phone market on sunday. The attack comes a day after another deadly bombing at a busy nigerian market. Authorities say explosives were strapped to a girl as young as 10 years old. The blast happened while the child was being screened at the entrance. At least 20 People Killed and 1 injured. Investigators believe the bomb was detonated remotely. Boko haram is suspected in the attack. They are also believed to have killed as many as 2,000 people in a massacre last weekend. It happened in a town and could be boko harams deadliest attack yet. Cnn spoke to a Nigerian Research with amnesty international. According to our research in 2014 more than 4,000 people were killed by boko haram. The overwhelming majority of these, civilians. These deliberate killings amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Weve also seen in the last six months boko haram take control of more than 20 towns in the northeast. So the conflict has escalated dramatically. The thing, theres so much to worry about here. You have politicians who almost seem more concerned with elections than about doing something about this. It seems absurd that the government by some accounts boko haram has an area now the size of belgium that theyre creating their own little caliphate up there. What concerns you about the seeming inaction militarily by the government . Just yesterday, we heard that the military is planning an operation to reclaim the town. However, what weve seen so far is that the vast majority of towns captured by boko haram have not been reclaimed by the military. And so boko haram continues to exercise control over this large area of territory in the northeast and is terrorizing those civilians that remain there. We have been documenting cases of the use of torture by boko haram, severe restrictions on peoples movements, including imprisonment and also allegations of forced marriage and also the recruitment of child soldiers. So were very concerned by these war crimes and crimes against humanity in boko haram controlled territory. Daniel air talking to cnn a short time ago. Officials say its underneath debris below the water. Earlier, the flight data recorder was pulled from the java sea. A major and significant turning point. French president Francois Hollande is set to hold a crisis Cabinet Meeting on National Security this hour following last weeks terror attacks. There have been questions about how militants, who were known to authorities, were able to launch the attacks. Earlier, nearly 4 Million People sent a message of unity in marches across france. Dignitaries from more than 40 countries led what was dubbed the unity rally in paris, along with relatives of those killed in the citys terror attacks. The nickname bb echoed through paris as a cheering crowd welcomed the israeli Prime Minister. Benjamin netanyahu joined president Francois Hollande for a ceremony honoring the victims of the attacks, including the four jews killed by a gunman at kosher market. Mr. Netanyahu expressed his condolences but also issued a warning. Translator israel will continue to fight against terror. We have the right to defend ourselves, and we know that when we do it ourselves, we take care of the entire jewish world. After the attack on the Kosher Grocery store in paris, many french jewish communities are very uneasy. Some citizens are considering leaving the country all together. Reporter sunday in paris, and the city tries to return to normal life. But the bullet holes are still there for all to see at the kosher supermarket, the makeshift memorial nearby continues to grow as police keep a watchful eye, removing suspicious packages alert and on guard. Sunday morning, the Jewish Community gathered here for prayers. Its been like this all day. People have been streaming into the site from across different communities to bring flowers, light candles, and also with this message, i am a jew or i am jewish. Its the french rallying cry for people here to show support for those jewish victims specifically targeted in this attack. Israeli politicians also came. The controversial right wing leader of the Jewish Home Party shook hands with jewish parisians at the scene, comforting those who came to mourn with an offer to emigrate to israel. If they decide to come to israel we will accept them and embrace them. If they decide to stay here we will continue to make sure that theyre secure. The world has to wake up. Reporter many french jews we spoke with are now seriously considering that offer. This man told us the Jewish Community is no longer safe. The attacks against jews are now sporadic and irregular. Its on the weekends every day. There are antisemitic attacks against the jews in france and across europe. This woman told us i will leave for israel when i have a good moment. But unfortunately now, here im afraid. Frances chief rabbi says leaving france is an individual choice but it wont solve the problem for the whole community. My problem, we have [ indiscernible ] we need a france where jewish people can be happy, and i think we can do that only when we are together. Reporter on sunday parisians rallied in solidarity with their jewish neighbors. But this weeks targeted attack may convince some french jews that france is no longer a safe place to call home. Atika scubert, cnn, paris. Turkeys Prime Minister meanwhile, says a new effort is needed to combat racist attitudes in europe. According to news reports, he says islamaphobia should be tackled with a similar zeal to honor the paris victims. At the moment the turkish Prime Minister says theres a growing dangerous attitude. Translator unfortunately, recently making Political Capital out of religious and cultural contradictions has been greatly favored in europe. Thats the origin of the problem, provoking attitudes towards different cultures. U. S. President barack obama has been criticized in some corners for not attending sundays unity rally. Its named after a pack in northeast paris where members met for physical training. According to media reports, the group sent about a dozen french men to train at terrorist catches in iraq. The group also has reported links to al qaeda in yemen. Cnn meanwhile spoke to analysts familiar with the terrorist cell. They passed along insights on the group that are both fascinating and disturbing. Arwa damon reports from paris. Reporter the network was nicknamed after where its members worked out. This park in paris, with an aim far from its tranquil setting. To send french nationals to fight american troops in iraq. Attack against u. S. Forces along baghdads notorious airport road. And that was Cherif Kouachis aim, to be a martyr in iraq. He like the others was not particularly religious, yet drawn into radical islam and then to war by this man. He told them you have to discover your identity your roots. You have to know who you are, and its why they were listening to him, because he was like a prophet for them somebody that knew the koran. Reporter he spoke about the abuses committed by u. S. Troops in abu ghraib to recruit. All as seen in Court Documents obtained by cnn in congress june. According to the documents, three of the men had already traveled to fallujah in 2004 when it was under the control of al qaeda. Kouachi told the court he was relieved he was detained and was finished with socalled jihad. But in prison is where the real radicalization began. He was in prison with other hardliners. Reporter he was jailed for plotting to attack the u. S. Embassy in pashgris in 2001. He became their spiritual mentor and continued the work in some way initiated. And maintained these links between them in prison radicalized them even more. Because he was in direct contact with the highest ranking members of al qaeda at the time. Reporter this terrifying attack on french soil carried out not by returnees from syria, not by foreigners but by two brothers born and radicalized here in france. Arwa damon, cnn, paris. Turning to the other big story, two major breakthroughs in the search for theia crash. Both black boxes have been located and one has been pulled out of the java sea. The cockpit voice recorder is stuck under debris and they have yet to retrieve it. But divers have recovered the flight data recorder. It was found beneath wreckage from the planes wring and vectors hope the data can help them figure out why the airbus went down. Its on that ship on the way to jakarta. Joining me now via skip Jeffrey Thomas the editor in chief and managing editor of airlineratings. Com. Thank you for talking with us. This is such a significant turning point, both the black boxes now have been located. One of them on the way to the lab. How long do you predict it will likely be before we have some answers to what exactly happened to that doomed flight . Rosemary it could be as soon as thursday or friday this week. If the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder when they bring it off the bottom later on today or tomorrow morning, as long as they havent been damaged, then the download we should get some answers very quickly. Its extremely important in this particular investigation that we do get those answers, because the airbus a320, theres over 6,000 of them flying around the world at the moment. They do about seven or eight flights a day. Its a real backbone of the worlds aviation fleet. So its very important we know as soon as possible. So much can be learned, cant it . And hopefully from what they learn, changes can be made so it does become safer in the air. That is the hope at least. We talked a few hours ago, in fact, didnt we, in the breaking News Coverage of this that at that point only one box had been recovered when we spoke then. But we covered this point, this concern, a possible concern that some people have that indonesia has made the decision that it wants to analyze and download this information there in jakarta rather than send it to the expert labs in singapore or australia in the region there. Talk to us about any concerns you might have at this point about that . Look i dont actually have any concerns. The Indonesian Air Crash Investigation Division has actually been working with the australians over the last seven years since a tragic crash in jakarta in 2007. The australians have been helping them improve their crash Investigation Unit and as part of that there was the installation of the ability to download black boxes instead of sending them to europe or australia or the United States. And i believe, im told that the facility is state of the art. So they should be able to do it and im sure theyll be pulling from any expertise from countries, and im sure the australians will be helping them as well. So its sort of a multinational effort so i think theres going to be plenty of help on hand if they need it. There has been a lot of debate about black boxes, about tracking planes. The sense that something needs to happen some sort of changes need to occur in the Airline Industry to make it safer. There has been some resistance, though. Why . Well there has been resistance. Of course up to air france 447 in 2009 and we didnt get the black boxes for two years, there hadnt been the need. We hadnt lost an airplane at sea in these circumstances. And now with mh370 air france 447, there were recommendations. The industry hasnt moved with those recommendations. And thus we didnt find mh370 at the moment. Theres also the cost involved. Refitting old airplanes could be extremely expensive. I expect this to be mandated for newly built airplanes but not older airplanes. And first of all, they have to agree on exactly what sort of steps were going to take to so we can track these planes better or even get live feed from the digital flight recorders while the planes are in flight. Hopefully some changes can occur, because its all in an effort to make it safer for citizens getting on board these planes. Jeffrey thomas, many thanks to you for joining us. Thank you. A Pakistani School at the center of a taliban massacre is Holding Class again. The Public School reopened today for the First Time Since the december 16th attack. 150 people were killed mostly children. The building has been washed and repainted, but the trauma the survivors went through still lives on. Journalist Michelle Stockman has more. Reporter this is where the bullet went through your shirt into your back, and this is your blood . Yes. Reporter so tell me why did you decide to keep this . Reporter wounded in body but not in spirit. This 15yearold was shot in the back while protecting two classmates from taliban gunmen on a murderous rampage in the schools auditorium. He saw Close Friends die in the most gruesome and horrifying way. Mostly one of my friends was shot in his face. Reporter he shivers when he tells me about this moment. He and other survivors have turned to social media to share memories of those they lost. At least 145 people 132 of which were children were killed in just a few hours. The majority of his 10th grade class was wiped out. But he says hes excited to go back to school a decision echoed by his proud, defiant mother. Hes very brave, my son, she says. The taliban is spreading fear and terrorism, but we are not afraid. God willing, my son will go back to the same school and he will fight against them one day. I dont want to make my child afraid. Thats the goal of military and school officials, too. To shore up security but make the campus seem normal again. Behind me you can see some of the efforts being made to get the school ready for students to come back. Theres a metal detector set up. The walls are being fortified. Were seeing a huge security presence. Checkpoints on either ends of the road. Inside the gates, there are memorials set up for the students and were seeing parents bringing their children to go inside the school to see what has happened here. This son lost his mother in the massacre. He had been the principal for two decades. She was shot in the head fighting against the militants to the very end, trying to save her pupils. And in his grief, outrage. That to settle scores with the military, the taliban killed innocent children. They were harmless. They werent bringing harm to anybody. They were just there for the education. Reporter as the Wounded School heals, its become a symbol of resolve for a wounded nation battered by terrorism. And lets bring in Michelle Stockman with more on Todays School opening. It is so hard to understand and fathom how these children will cope going back into the school the images just shocking and horrifying. Reporter thats right, rosemary. Just really a blood bath that happened in that schoolyard, where these children are now bravely going back trying to meet their friends, trying to retake some sense of normalcy from what was just an interruption in their young lives. We saw parents bringing their children back walking them to the gates. We understand that the army chief went and visited with these children. We know that the pakistani public is getting great support to the military and the government as they try to crack down on militants in the aftermath of the attack including a constitutional amendment to try to fast track the prosecution of terrorist suspects in military courts. The nation just wants to get going after these terrorists that perpetrated this great evil against their children. So even though there is a sense of trying to get back to norral normalcy this remains a nation on edge. Back to you, rosemary. Michelle stockman thank you so much joining us there from pakistan.
