In ways that matter. That said, polls are just a snapshot of a moment in time. And between now and november, so much can happen to make this move one way or the other. Unlike what harry said, i believe in the debates this time. The measurement of the two men is so careful for so many people. I think theyll matter. I dont think they matter. I think its already baked in. I dont think people care if you are a trump supporter youre a trump supporter. In youre a biden supporter youre a biden supporter. If you care about decency youll vote for biden. If you dont and you want things the way you are youll vote for the president. I dont judge for me as an american, i dont judge the performance in a debate as someone who can handle the presidency. The presidency is not run in 30 second answers or a quick wit in the debate. Its run by someone who has the ability to lead. We put too much emphasis on debates. Its great to watch. People its like a fight. Its already baked in. I think it will be fun for viewers to watch. It wont move the needle one bit at all. You have history and Political Science on your side. I however, feel that this is different especially with biden. There are a lot of people who dont want to vote for trump. But need to be convinced to vote for biden. They dont like how left this stuff sounds. And how he may have to own it. And were told that as of a few hours ago this morning brad was not aware this change was in the works. He was called by Jared Kushner the soninlaw this evening he told him they were going to make the change. We do expect him to stay on. Hes deeply entrenched in the family. It is significant that this three and a half weeks after the railly in tulsa the president is deciding to make the change. Wasnt the writing on the wall since that tulsa rally . All the empty seats . I think so. We heard sources sate president backstage seeing how many empty rows and was furious about it. He complained days after ward. They had many meetings where the president brought up the Unfilled Seats in the arena. Its a Bigger Picture of the the polls the president is fuming about. Showing him down to joe biden. Clearly it was bothering him yesterday. When you walk away is one Jared Kushner has had one foot inside the white house. One foot inside the campaign. Running the campaign. Thats not likely to change. Two the president s own behavior going to change. Just changing who is running your campaign isnt going to change how the candidate himself is acting. Thats what so many people have been so baffled by how the president is acting lately. Some wonder if he was actively trying to throw the election by the decisions he was making. It seemed so counter productive to being reelected. Does changing the Campaign Manager change trump the answer is no. This doesnt something that happens when a campaign is doing well. Its very unusual to make changes this late in a campaign. But obviously things have been going south for sometime for the president. She raises a point. You cant fire the candidate. Trump will be the last person on the planet who will acknowledge hee is responsible for his own troubles. He is largely responsible for his own troubles. If you look if the polling that came out tonight, so much and this is true in all polling that we have seen. So much of his problem is related to how hes handled this coronavirus. How he handled the after math of the George Floyd Murder in minneapolis. And pouring gasoline on the fire of race in the country. And hes getting very low marks for both those things. And that has driven numbers down. I doubt that brad was the architect of the coronavirus strategy. This is donald trump running his own show. He cant fire himself. He wouldnt fire himself. The manager has to go. Since you mention lets put up the latest national polling. 52 of registered voters back Vice President joe biden. 37 support President Trump. Heres the thing. If the president if he doesnt prioritize this pandemic, will those numbers change . I really dont think so. The president had in his mind he was going it ride a Strong Economy to reelection. He was in denial about the impact of the coronavirus largely because he feared it would stall the economy, send the economy into a spiral. And that would hurt his reelection chances. He got serious about it for a few weeks and in may he quit on the hard medicine that was necessary to deal with the coronavirus. And now we see the result. We see it surging again. Yet he continues to deny it. He continues to assure people that this is just a blip. And thats not the experience americans are having in their own lives. That contradiction that tension is one that doesnt resolve itself in the president s favor. He is either out to lunch on this coronavirus issue. Or simply unwilling to acknowledge it because he thinks its bad for him politically. Or out of the White House Traveling to hot spots. Another one today. Down in atlanta for a noncoronavirus related event. We saw him gt off the tarmac not wearing a mask. Most everyone else was. What gives here . Was the president wearing a mask at walter reed a one time only thing . That was the first time we saw it in public. Although he wore it once before at an autoplant. The reason they scheduled that visit is to have an excuse to wear a mask without looking like he changed his position on wearing a mask. They do it one time. The question is is it something hell continue. It appear to be that way. He did it in atlanta. The mayor chastised him over. He has gone to phoenix kp miami. And now atlanta. Hes going to these places where coronavirus is surging. The infection rate is surging. His focus there is not coronavirus. He didnt go to the cdc while he was in atlanta right near the headquarters. And instead gave a speech on infrastructure. We have been reporting how dr. Fauci and all the drama saying lets get back to focusing on the pandemic at hand. And how well respond to this. The president himself continued to try to focus on other things. Instead of whats going on. That would be enough to keep this in the box. But in the states where its exploding, that wouldnt be enough to do anymore than flaunt the growth. Its not just necessarily national. It could be as narrowly focussed as op a couple of counties at a time. In a large state it might not be statewide. When you do need to take very aggressive action, that means at the very least things the obvious things are bars and unfortunately churches. Those are places where people are indoors, close contact. And they are well documented for spreading the disease. Theres not much you can do about bars. Conceivably churches could make adjustments. Particularly in the summer and have out door worship. If planes were falling out of the sky like that, wouldnt the government immediately mobilize to stop it . Would we keep just doing what were doing . Would people just keep getting on planes . If that many people were dying every day . It would be unthinkable. We would all do whatever it would take to stop that carnage. 50 per week. Over the course of four months. Think about that. We know in part what it takes to stop the carnage. Listen. Face coverings are key. If you look at it, the data is really clear. They work. Were not defenseless against this virus. Masks work. So you say you agree with the governors decision to mandate masks, but what else does your state need to do . Well, i think that is a huge first step. I think the governor has been listening to health care professionals. She said it very clearly. Nobody likes to mandate masks, but when people arent getting the message and theyre not following the guidelines, youre going to have to do something to start changing behaviors. So i think she did the appropriate thing today, and i think that is a huge first step. Well see how this goes. I think the enforcement will be an interesting issue, but i think just the example that she is setting by this will go a long way to make sure that we try to do everything we can to stop this just incredible rise in the number of hospitalizations, the number of cases, the number of deaths that were seeing in the state of alabama. Yeah, it is really, i mean, just outrageous. Its surging, surging. So, listen, senator, the president is stirring up racial divisions in the runup to the election. He said the Confederate Flag is free speech like black lives matter is. Hes been defending confederate monuments. Are those going to bin winning messages for him in your neck of the woods . No, i dont think so. I dont think so at all. You know, weve been talking about this for a long time. Alabama people forget this. Alabama took the confederate battle flag off its State Capitol some 20, 30 years ago now, 1994, i think that happened. Governor jim fulsome took that off there. So weve dealt with these issues before and were continuing to deal with those, but i think were at a moment in history now, don, where people are recognizing that its time for a change. Weve got to make sure that we do the right thing. Weve got to make sure that those monuments get in a place of history and communities and that all people in a community feel safe and theyre not offended when they go to a courthouse and they see a statue of a confederate general who took up arms against the United States of america. So i think were at an interesting moment, and i dont think its a winning issue for donald trump or anybody else that follows him. Lets talking about yo about right now. Senator Tommy Tuberville beating Jeff Sessions in the senate race last night. President trump is attacking you throwing all kinds of support behind him. Listen to this. Im very happy that Tommy Tuberville won the race. I think hes going to be a great senator. We dont have a good senator in there right now in jones. Hes not doing the job he should be doing. Certainly he doesnt represent the views of the people of alabama. Thats for sure. Your your senate seat is seen as the most vulnerable for democrats. Trump it 100 behind your opponent. Whats your message and your strategy, senator . You know, my message has been the same that its always been, don. We represent everybody in alabama. Its one alabama for us. Thats exactly what weve been doing. And weve reached out we had an amazing turnout for us in 2017, and were going to see another one because people now see and understand what weve been able to do. And its not just for the Traditional Democratic base. Weve reached out to farmers and educators and health care professionals. Weve been talking about saving rural health. Weve been talking about jobs and the economy. Im on the Armed Services committee and we have talked about modernizing our military and keeping america safe and secure in an industry, a military Industrial Complex thats incredibly important for alabama. Weve talked a lot about veterans and weve got a lot done for veterans in the state of alabama. And across the country, things like the elimination of the widows tax. Were going to run on that. Were going to go straight at this and let folks see the leadership, the kind of leadership that can come when people reach across the aisle, do the things necessary to try to get things done and not live in such a hyperpartisan world.
