You can say it was justified to kill general soleimani because theres no doubt he has been responsible for a lot of american deaths in the past but the legal justification they chose to use and pompeo said was they were disrupting imminent attack. Which never made sense. If there was an attack in motion. How would that stop the attack. He doesnt carry it out he gives orders. And the members of Congress Listen to the evidence the intelligence behind closed doors have found it to be incredibly uncompelling and unconvincing. And out of step with the president of the United States. Theyll rant and rave. But theyre in the minority of the party on this as they have been. The reason they were upset is because there is a notion apparently that it was a notion that was expressed during the briefing. Which says if you question the whether congress should have been consulted before soleimani was killed, if you question whether Congress Actually is the founders intended should be declaring war, rather than having the president unilaterally do that. Youre a traitor. Youre aiding and abetting the enemy. Thats insulting. Conservatives are war hawks who think we should be everywhere and invading everything. And conservatives who are isolationists and i dont know who is right. Maybe its just depends on the situation. Its fair to debate that. And to say otherwise is part of the problem. I think that basically what happened is trump was sending this message mixed messages training them to assume he was all bluster and tweet. And then he takes it to 11. It was very dangerous. Whether its going to be worse. And are we better off or worse off that he efs killed from the standpoint of the threat and the nature of the threat and harm to american lives. Nobody mourns his loss. On the other hand are we going to face a threat thats worse now than before. I kept today when the president came out i thought immediately he would give the evidence saying there was an attack planned here. Soleimani spearheaded this attack. This was being planned here. But really, none of that. It was just sort of generality about how bad he was and they took out this bad person. We caught up with the House Speaker tonight. Take a look at this. Some people are calling it the worst briefing they have ever gotten. Theres stiff competition for that. In this administration. What was so different about this briefing to make lawmakers so upset. It must have been really on another level. Its because of the gravity of the situation. Thank god we had a pause in active hostility on both sides. And so when we started hearing the briefing and the answers to the questions that were posed, and they were so unsatisfying and we werent getting anywhere in terms of understanding rk it was frustrating. That made people so upset. Given the gravity of the situation. Listen, this is probably better for a republican or trump supporter. This president ran on remember you said from the very beginning early on i did not support the war in iraq. I never thought we should go. He questioned the intelligence. He questioned president bush and all the people who voted for it. Now doesnt want anyone to question why this happened. Isnt that hypocritical . It is. And also raises serious questions about the motivations for the killing of soleimani. He didnt want anybody in the gang of 8 who normally would be consulted before an attack to receive the information before the attack. And now after the fact he still doesnt want us to really understand the intelligence with the what we should understand it in order to know why soleimani was killed. And that just raises a question for the motivation as to why he was killed. Most importantly we want to know the commander in chief is thinking a couple steps ahead in terms of the consequences. We cannot stumble into a war with iran. Another endless war in the middle east is completely unacceptable. If anybody wants to have that war they should come here and try to pursue a declaration of war. I doubt theyll get very far. Speaking of that, nancy pelosi announcing earlier that the house will will vote tomorrow on the war powers resolution. The limit the president ability to wage war with iran. Is it going to pass . I think so. I think theres bipartisan support. Especially after todays briefing of the it was so awful. I would not be surprised if there are republicans that join with us in this asserting Congressional Authority just for viewers.
