Of rifle heritage. Cnn political analyst, april ryan and political commentator mike shields. Good to have all of you on this evening. Heres a president talking about health care today. Health care is working along very well. We could have a big surprise with a Great Health Care package. So now theyre happy. A great, great surprise. Bob, whats he talking about . I dont know, don. He is a master marketer and obviously this bill is not popular. It didnt get the votes this week. Remember, trump had some momentum this week. He, in george 6 district, republicans won. He got a big win at the supreme court. So if it was going to pass, maybe it was going to pass this week. However, the votes are just not there. I dont know how they get there because i think Susan Collins is a firm no. I think rand paul is a firm no and then you got to get dean heller who is up for reelection. I think maybe if they had one more republican senator, they could get this done. Its awfully hard right now. But you know what he was doing, right . Its so obvious. The guys in the studio when they say can we go home now . Yes, guys, you can go home. Are you happy . But the truth is we cant go home until the show is over. So i think hes having a little fun with the media. April, is this administration were always waiting for the next big thing. Theyre always touting the next big thing. Yeah, the next big thing after health care i understand will be tax reform and infrastructure. But just like health care, the devil is in the details, and its about the cbo scores. This president does not mind busting a budget. But you have people in the Republican Party who are fiscally conservative and theyre very upset about that. And thats part in parcel of part of the problem with health care. We dont know whats next. What can you do to actually fix this . I mean, obamacare or the Affordable Care act, as its official title is had some issues. It needs to be tweaked. One big issue. Deductibles very high. But this, to knock millions of people off, what will he do to fix this . The house and senate bill both will hurt people. We have to wait and see. Hes a carnival barker right now. We have to see what he has to say. When he lets the curtain open to see what he has to say. It was surprising to me. I dont know if you saw congressman peter king on the show earlier saying maybe theyre going to have to work and actually tweak the Affordable Care act. Or obamacare, that the votes just arent there, and in the senate. The votes arent there in the congress. What do you think about that, mike shields . I think youre watching legislating and i think that hasnt happened in washington for so long that everyones freaking out every time theres a twist or a turn going through it. I mean, look, the house bill failed at first and then it passed. And every single step of the way you sort of reach a brinksmanship of oh, my gosh, its not going to pass. And this person is angry and that person is angry. Then they come to the table, theyre all negotiating and postering. After it passes the senate it will go to a Conference Committee and go through the same cycle again of oh, my gosh. Always something happens when youre negotiating something as big as this. What did you think of peter king saying maybe its not a full repeal and replace, maybe its just tweaking it . I dont agree with him. Ipgs youre going to have a repeal. I mean, if youre getting rid of all the taxes, fundamentally changing the medicaid policy and obamacare, thats not obamacare anymore. I think and look. I take you back to 1996. John lewis went to the well of the floor of the house during the welfare reform debate and he said theyre coming for the women, theyre coming for the children, a million new orphans on the street. The same sort of things democrats are trying to say now about this medicaid change in the health care act. And what happened . We dont even talk about Health Care Reform anymore because it was such a huge success. When the republicans get away from talking about numbers, the house bill increases medicaid spend big 20 . Were never going to have enough percentage numbers to fight on democrats. When we Start Talking about it in the moral terms of making people have a work requirement to get some of their benefits, not having medicaid expanded beyond the poor, but just making ate governmentrun program, once we Start Talking about those things, it gets a lot easier to get senators over the finish line. Thing is a huge amount of weight on their shoulders to get this done, and i think they will get it done. The issue according to peter king and Susan Collins, its medicaid and they dont want to take medicaid away from so many people who have it and basically i think what they believe is this particular bill is detrimental to trumps own voters, meaning republicans as well and theyre just not on board with it. But douglas, i want to bring you in because the president tweeted this today. Some of the Fake News Media likes to say i am not totally engaged in health care. Wrong. I know the subject well and want victory for the u. S. Do you think the president knows the subject well . Of course not. What he knows is how to count senate votes. And he knows right now he has nine republican senators opposed to the Health Care Bill. Thats a real hurdle for him. We just heard, going back to 1996. What about 1993 when bill clinton tried to grab the scruff of the neck of health care and it blew up on him. It wasted an entire year that led to the gingrich revolution in 1994. Im saying its a cautionary note to donald trump. Betting all your legislative agenda in your first year to repeal and replace obamacare particularly when youre trying to gut the medicaid system by billions of dollars, its not sellable. And you only have right now about a 12 Approval Rating for the senate plan. Thats 85, 87 of the American People think it stinks. Thats not a good hand the president is holding now. Well, lets talk about that. Here are the poll numbers, and they are dismal, as you said. Fox news poll has 27 of people in favor of it. Npr has 17 Approval Rating. Suffolk university usa today poll has 12 support while 40 of the people were unsure. At the same time nine senators have now expressed their opposition to this bill. And i dont see the momentum, bob cusack, going in the direction of getting this passed, at least not at the moment. No. I mean its astonishing. Obamacare is the reason, at least partly that the democrats lost the house and then later the senate. The party, the team that is united usually is winning. And democrats unbelievably are united on obamacare and republicans arent. Now, more than control of the house and senate but watch the july fourth parades because democratic activists will be going after Republican House and Senate Members and confronting them and there really could be youtube moments and that upsets a lot of republican aides right now. They dont know whats going to happen next week. If the polls are accurate. Youre talking activists maybe just in the moment going after it. Yes. If they have more than town halls, which im not sure theyre going to do, maybe theyll hold off on having them. Oh, yeah. And theyre not having them right now. Most republican members are holding off on town halls because they know how volatile it will be. I know yall want to weigh in on this. Well discuss when we come back. Well be right back. Were back now with my panel. I want to continue this conversation about health care. Hey, mike shields, do you think that republicans are going to hold town halls over this Health Care Bill next week when theyre on recess . I dont know. I think there is one aspect of this which is the security a lot of the members feel right now. And the town halls theyve had in the past, i advise them not to do it. I think it becomes political theater. The citizens that actually want to show up and ask a question just get drowned out. But i want to get back to the question youre asking about the polling of this thing. It isnt really where the polls are now, its where the polls are going to be in the future that you need to worry about. The election isnt tomorrow. If republicans dont fix this problem, 1 3 of all counties, in the United States dont have they only have one insurance carrier because of obamacare. We just saw you know as a strategist on the karen handel race in georgia, the house bill happened, that vote happened in the middle of this race, and we think its a huge help to karen handel to have that happen. She talked about how obamacare is failing and it was designed to address costs. Costs have only gone up. People are being denied care because they cant choose the doctor they want. When republicans that election was before this particular bill came out. No. The house vote happened the house bill, not the senate bill . Right. I want to move on. I want to get you to weigh in on that. Because im just wondering. Im wondering what people are going to be saying to these law makers that supermarket, at the diner, at the deli when they go out, what theyre going to be hearing from people. I wish they could wear body cams. I mean that tongueincheek, because i would really like to know what people are saying. So lets move on. I found this very interesting. This is former acting attorney general, sally yates. She was appointed by president obama and fired by President Trump. She spoke about examining the rule of law yesterday. It was at the aspen institute. Here is part of what she said. Bob mueller is going to be deciding whether or not crimes were committed that could be used for prosecution or for impeachment. Surely thats not our bar. Thats not the standard of conduct were looking for from our president or administration. It shouldnt just be whether you committed a felony or not, it should also be whether or not youre observing the kind of norms weve been talking about here today that are so essential to the fabric of the rule of law. So while i have told confidence in bob mueller and his ability to conduct this investigation, i dont think we should be putting all of our hopes in that will tell us whether anything bad happened here because theres potential and i dont know what the facts are so im not drawing conclusions about what he may ultimately determine. But there are facts that should be alarming to us as a country that fall short of facts that would establish a basis for impeachment or prosecution. And douglas brinkley, just to remind the viewer, sally yates was fired by President Trump after she was instructed she actually instructed the department of justice not to defend the travel ban in court. Whats your reaction to these comments . Well, look, shes angry at donald trump. She despises him. He fired her. The aspen institute, you get ideas festival where you get ideas across. And shes reminding us one of Donald Trumps curses i think he has brought to washington is the shrinking of the power of the presidency. People used to really look up to the executive branch and now every day donald trump seems to be doing something to make it look smaller. Today in the news cycle we have a picture of a president in the United States who made fake time news magazine covers to post in clubs. What message does that give young people . Im not saying other president s didnt have low moral standards. Nixon clearly had problems. Bill clinton had problems but donald trump seems to be shrinking the presidency and the respect of the American People. And now operating at about 36 in the polls. How significant is it that former ag, acting ag, shes speaking out about a sitting president like this . Well, i think its somewhat significant and shes a respected figure but at the same time, don, donald trump won 306 electoral votes. Sally yates won zero. He was elected by the country. Now he may pay a price. The polls are certainly not good for him right now. The midterms, a lot of people are saying the house is in play, and that would mean losing two dozen seats or more. But at the same time that you have a lot of people within the beltway that are going after him, he is an unconventional president. And were going to have to get used to that. I have to ask you, april, has the bar of acceptable behavior been lowered . Youve covered many president s youve covered many president s, and you cover them on a daily basis. Do you think the bar has been lowered . Watching for the last 20 years, yes. I watched bill clinton at his lowest lows. It was never like this. Ive seen george w. Bush at his lowest lows. It was never like this. And Barack Hussein obama at his lowest lows, it was never like this. Whats unfortunate in watching what we see, theres serious issues on the table and whats happening now, its more of a partisan issue. One side says this, the other side says that and people dont see the issues for what they are and the press is now being attacked because we are reporting that there is an issue. It is about the fact that russia did indeed do something in the election. They tried to tamper they did tamper with the election. Now the question is was there collusion. Thats still a question. Those question marks are still there. Then you also have the possibility of obstruction of justice. You have the russia investigation, you have michael flynn. You have questions about this exchange between the president and former fbi director james comey, then you have the firing of james comey. And then you have also others who are brought into this web of an investigation to include the president s soninlaw jared kushner. So these are facts that im talking. This is not partisan and unfortunately now we are seeing a totally different day and just tonight alone this president i mean other president s have tried to walk away from any of the bad optics of a possibility of impropriety. This president tonight travelled to trump international, his hotel, for a fundraiser with the cheapest ticket 35,000. And people on the side saying shame, shame. That would not have happened in other administrations. Do you think the bar of acceptable behavior has been lowered . No, i dont. And i think first of all sally yates sounds like someone who knows that the president didnt do anything wrong, and that mueller is going to exonerate him. Now shes falling back on well, maybe he didnt do anything wrong, but we need to talk about the norms. There are millions of americans that look at the elites here, look at people in the news and they dont relate to them because they dont think any of us understand what their life is like. And theyre not the most refined people, and they dont always use the best language. And they elected a president who speaks to them and speaks like them. The more we criticize him for this sort of behavior, the more the voter says this is the guy we sent to washington. Im glad he is stirring it up. Im sorry to cut you off. It sounds like youre saying yes, the bar has been lowered and that its acceptable to people who i dont know whos setting the bar refined behavior. I dont know who is setting the bar. President ial. What is president ial . Right. The bar is president ial. What is president ial . Excuse me. If who decides what is president ial is the American People, then he won. If who decides what is president ial are the media and people in washington d. C. , then hes never going to live up to that standard and were going to criticize him over and over again in washington d. C. , which the people will see and when they see us, i mean not me obviously, but people in washington, d. C. And in the media, when people seay see it in this zip code criticizing the president for being uncouth, they relate to it because they think i probably wouldnt be invited to some meeting with a a bunch of the politicians either. So they relate to this president. They have their own bar for whats president ial and he won the it election because of it. Don, its not about being uncouth. Its not about being uncouth. And i understand what youre saying. The American People wanted something new. What they wanted they didnt know but they got something new but the question now is how much do you skirt around policies and procedures and laws. People are concerned about what they are seeing and well, april, when you say people, who are the people . When you say people, do you mean people in the media . The critics. Lets go to the tweet about yes, lets go to the tweet about barack obama wire tapped him. The president when he speaks, the world listens. Listen. Words matter. And this is not im not making this up. And the white house is trying to actually internally deal with this. Trying to i guess do damage control when this president is very real and his reality and his realness sometimes gets him in trouble. He does it to himself. It gets him in trouble with the people he wants to be in trouble with. Are you saying its okay youre spinning, and that doesnt make any sense. Are you saying, mike, its okay when youre talking about misstatements and flat out lies that its okay because there are a bunch of people who will accept it . What im saying is the question was the president ial bar been raised or lowered. And i dont think the American People are watching this white house and watching the president of the United States and are concerned about that. What about the issue . I wish there was a tape. April, let me finish answering the question. Okay. I think the American People want jobs. And they dont really care that a bunch of people in washington, d. C. Care what a president ial bar is. They want someone to help solve their problems and make their lives better. And the more we talk about a tweet or whats president ial or what isnt, then they think were even more out of touch. With whats going on in their lives. April, i want you guys, douglas, all of you, bob, stick around. And mike. Were going to continue this conversation. Were going to move on, but were going to continue this conversation on the other side of the break. Dont go anywhere. Well be right back. The future isnt silver suits and houses on mars, its right now. Think about it. We can push buttons and make cars appear out of thin air. Find love anywhere. Hes cute. And buy things from, well, everywhere. How . Because our phones have evolved. So isnt it time our networks did too . Introducing americas largest, most reliable 4g lte combined with the most wifi hotspots. Its a new kind of network. Xfinity mobile. All right. So im back now with my panel. April, ryan, john cusack. Douglas brinkley and mike shields. Douglas, you wanted to jump in. You were raring to get in here. Don, i think the question is Donald Trumps been president for six months and hasnt been a success. When youre dealing with congress, its basically a zero with the exception of neil gorsuch. What has donald trump done . Historys going to show he made mistake by not going after infrastructure first. This idea of repealing and replacing with no plan in place has left donald trump out to dry not once but about three different times now. Now were rushing into the fourth of july, hes doing an emergency meeting. Mitch mcconnells being hammered by just about everybody because hes pushing this without the votes. As donald trump said, its more work and its harder than you think. And thats because obamacare is starting to become a birthright like medicaid and medicare, like social security. What people didnt like was the obama on obama care but they liked the care and were not going to be able to leave 22 Million People without health care. You will have an eruption and not just on youtube, but all over the country. And suddenly donald trump is going to be responsible for people who are sick and ill. He promised not to touch medicaid and medicare on the campaign trail. He reneged on that promise. So i think its a tar baby on health care for him at this juncture and hed be better suited to switch gears in the fall. Bob cusack, did you want to get in on this conversation . Yeah, listen, i think its going to be very difficult for republicans Going Forward because either way democrats win. If this becomes law, its an unpopular way. As douglas was saying taking away benefits is very, very difficult and if they dont succeed, they cant say its over or we have to move on. Theyre going to have to address this eventually down the road. Whether its after the next election. So republicans are kind of stuck on health care right now. Yeah, we kind of got away from what we were talking about. We were talking about sally yates and whether the bar has been raised. Mike shields, go on. In terms of what the president accomplished, its amazing to hear a historian say the president hasnt accomplished anything. Manufacturers are saying they have the highest confidence theyve had in 20 years. We signed the president signed a veterans bill that speaks to whistleblowers and president reagans signature tax cut bill that was the hallmark of his campaign wasnt signed until august of his first year. And so were watching the legislative process play out in front of us. There are a lot of ups and downs. The Health Care Bill in the house was supposedly dead and then it passed. I think the president of the United States is accomplishing a tremendous amount, and he is focused on the economy. Why are 2 3 of the American People, mike, saying he is doing a bad job . Well, you know, i dont believe that those types of polls are actually what are significant. In fact, i think the economy, in talking to a bunch of pollsters that would tell you that type of polling doesnt play any role. Well just won an election again in georgia where the president s national Approval Ratings are where they are, yet we still won an election in there. I think if you look at where the economy is it was close. It was close. I have to go. Appreciate it. Thank you all. President trump still talks like a real estate mogul but does he have what it takes to make a deal of a lifetime . Here the author of trump and me. Cnn contributor David Farenthold is a reporter for the Washington Post as well. And scott jennings, a former special assistant through two george w. Bush. Good to have all of you. And he is the king of the deal makers. Youve covered him for 20 years. You just wrote a book about him. Is he the deal maker that he says he is . Well, theres no evidence hes making any deals at the moment in washington because what legislation has he passed and what initiatives has he taken . Hes operating more like a ceo with a very distant relationship to the operations of the business and its hard for me to recognize that deal making act acumen in his performance as president. Do you think because of the signing of the executive orders and the fanfare that people actually think they might think that. I really think they do. The same people who think health care is going to be great and everybody is going to be covered and nobody is going to get kicked off medicaid. Just because he says it doesnt actually make it real. So the ceremony surrounding these executive orders is a show. Its not about anything of substance particularly. David, it seems like senators are telling the president to keep his distance from negotiating on the Health Care Bill, in part because he doesnt know enough about the details. Can he cut a deal without understanding policy . No, i think thats what sets this deal making apart from this attempted deal making apart from being a real estate broker. In the real estate world he knew what the moving pieces were. I give you this much for a square foot, this much off the loan. He understood how to make a deal because he understood what he was trading. Everything weve seen our reporters at the Washington Post, weve heard from senators. Is when he talks about health care, he doesnt know what the moving pieces are. He doesnt know how to make a deal because he doesnt know what hes dealing with. Even when he was sort of twisting arms in the house bill, he would say okay, im going give you this on Community Support or take away this on essential health benefits. He was just saying its going to be great. Sign on. Its awesome. And then when it passed he called it mean. So its really hard for him to serve the deal making role. He just gets in and mucks it up. Scott, fair criticism . I think what im hearing out of senator Mitch Mcconnells orbit today and tonight is that the president is actually engaged in talking to senators about getting to an immigrant on health care. He is engaged with individuals, the staff at the white house is also engaged in putting the legislation together now that can finally get enough votes to pass the senate. I think we can sit here and wonder about the president s deal making skills but whats really happening based on what i heard today is that he is fully engaged and he is being helpful in Mitch Mcconnells world in getting the 50 plus one necessary to pass this bill in the United States senate. I dont know that they would be able to get there if the president werent engaged in it. If they ultimately get across the line, i think youll find out in the ticktock afterwards that the president was helpful in pulling at least a few votes in. Peter king says hes not sure it will be able to pass the congress, scott. And hes saying maybe its not a complete repeal and replace. He would like the to be, but maybe its not. Maybe you just have to negotiate a tweaking of obamacare. Is that acceptable, you think . Its possible thats the road this could go down. I mean, right now we dont have a bill thats got enough support to pass that is a full repeal and replace. I do think tonight it appears theres a movement on the Opioid Funding front thats going to allay the concerns for the senators from ohio and virginia. It appears to be getting taken care of in movement tonight. But there is still more to do. I also read tonight that the Health Savings account issue may be getting resolved. That is something that rand paul has raised. So you can see right now individual senators are getting their issues taken care of that theyve raised throughout the process. Ultimately were still not there. I do think that Mitch Mcconnell and his Leadership Team are working feverishly to get legislation that can be scored by the cbo which will take a couple of weeks and voted on by the august recess. Ultimately if we get done before the august recess, the delay will be a blip. But were not there yet. And if we dont get there, the one thing that remains is Health Insurance premiums are still going um. And the Health Insurance market is still struggling out there. Nearly half of all the counties in the United States have one or no carriers on the exchanges. That still has to be dealt with whether this bill passes or not. And im sure theres a democratic person that can talk about that here but theres not one who could tell you what they would say is that its because republicans and the president are not supporting the aca and are talking it down that people are afraid of it and they would also tell you that cbo is saying obamacare is not collapsing. That is a false argument. But they would say that. But the fact is there have been threats leveled about not supporting the aca but theyve not taken that step. Number two, on the premiums, weve seen doubledigit premium hikes every single year since the exchanges came online. That predates donald trump being the president and taking office. And number three isnt that more fodder for the democrats argument that it should be fixed rather than replaced . I think its fodder for the republican argument that you cant fix something irreparably broken. Were talking about 100 plus premium increases for people who are buying insurance on the private market. The other issue here, almost half of all the counties in the United States pretty soon will have one or no insurance carriers left in the exchange market. That is not a sustainable model for the future. And so even democrats would have to agree we cant really have a private Insurance Exchange market out there if nobody wants to cover the people who live in half the counties of the United States. These are facts. They exist. Theyve been reported in major news outlets and they have to be dealt with sooner rather than later. Its not getting better. Were hogging the time for the rest of the folks. I wish i had a democrat on here who could counter you. Listen, david, i want to move on and talk about you were the first to report this story the president has a fake Time Magazine cover with headlines that say the apprentice is a television smash. He has been on he has been on that cover 14 times, legitimately. So why hang a phoney cover up there . Thats the great question. This cover was hung up. Almost all the covers were from his political career. So after he started running for president in 2015. This cover showed up in his clubs between 2009 and 2014, a period when he had only ever had one that was back this the 80s. I dont know why they did it, i dont know who did it. I dont know if donald trump knew this was a fake or if he too was fooled. He certainly displayed in at his clubs alongside real legitimate true covers of other magazines. I dont exactly know the origins because the Trump Organization wont talk to me about it. But heres whats interesting. Hes had a lot of success and as always as seen in a pattern of his charitable giving, boasting about the size of his inaugural crowd. He wants to take the truth as a starting point and add on to that. Even when the truth in this case is good. In this case, his golf clubs are great. Incredibly successful. You know the guy who owns this club is a successful person. But somewhere along the line they felt the need add a trophy on to that that wasnt earned. Having a fake cover. Its a silly thing. The president has a history of exaggerating his accomplishments. What does it say about his personality or his public persona . Its a useful metaphor and speaks to a deep sense inadequacy that he has which is in every statement that comes out of his mouth. Circumstances it a facade . Its a persona. My understanding of donald trump over the years has been that youre not dealing with a normal person who has an interior life and the sort of emotions that you and i tend to experience. He prefers to exist. So the apprentice is what got him elected president more than anything. And hes an actor playing a business man on tv. Hes not negotiating real deals there. He did do real deals in the real estate business early on. Donald trump lover loves leverage. Thats one of his favorite things. And you do. You need leverage. You need have credit in the real estate business but hes trying to leverage things that really arent levererageable now and it means certainly you cant apply those standards to politics. I want to play this. This is what he said about Time Magazine back in january. Time magazine. And have i been on their cover like 14 or 15 times. I think we have the all time record in the history of Time Magazine. Like if tom bradys on the cover its like one time because he won the super bowl or something. Ive been on 15 times this year. Scott, by the way, this was at the cia memorial wall. The president is wrong, by the way. Richard nixon has the alltime record. He was on 55 time covers. 14 covers is a lot. Why does he need stretch the truth here . You know, i play a lot of golf and ive been in a lot of golf clubhouses. And ive never been in one where somebody wasnt engaged about talking about a whopper they were telling or an exaggeration. In fact, if i had a nickel for every whopper, you wouldnt be able to find me tonight. Scott, this is the president. Were not doing fish tales. Well, he wasnt the president when he hung the covers up. And i will be perfectly honest with you guys. I think weve got assads about to gas his own people again. The North Koreans are about to aim Nuclear Weapons at us, and nobody can assure their Health Insurance, and you should listen to the other parts of the show. This is a 24 hour news network. We can walk and chew gum at the same time. Theres plenty to go around. I hear you, i hear you. What was your reaction . Scott, were hogging the segment. What was your reaction . People are always making excuses for the president s inattention. His pure bs, frankly. Hes a salesman. Thats what we have here in the white house. We dont have a person whos even acting as a functioning chief executive. Hes there. To say that he is engaged in the politics of the health care law, excuse me, thats a very recent development. So were on the phone congratulating the newly elected Prime Minister of ireland, President Trump noticed that irish journalists in the oval office had this to say. Well, we have a lot of your irish press watching this. Theyre just now leaving the room. And where are you from . Go ahead. Come here, come here. Im from katrina perry. She has a nice smile on her face, so i bet she treats you well. So here to discuss cnn political commentators as well maria cardona. Maria, i know you feel very strongly about the exchange. Whats your reaction . I just think that it is something unfortunately for Trump Reminds the American People what an ogling, letsche rouse man he is. It is something he survived throughout the campaign and able to become president despite everything we saw from the access hollywood tapes on down. All of the women who accused him of sexually inappropriate behavior towards them, Sexual Assault even. And this is just the kind of behavior that when you see somebody who is in the oval office as the leader of the free world and our commander in chief just, you know, trump makes us think every single day what is he doing in the oval office when he acts like this . Its just kind of blows it up even more. Puts the angle on it in a way that is not helpful for trump as he is battling a 35 Approval Rating and supposedly trying to fix americas problems but i really dont think that really concerns him. Alice, you said President Trump likes to compliment people. And we shouldnt look too much into this. Thats my view on this. I agree with maria. Theres been numerous cases where his behavior is something despicable and it is something that is indefensible. But i look at this and i dont see it as that terrible. I think he was trying to be light heard. He was on the phone. He knew the cameras were in there, and he was doing this in a lighthearted way. And my heart goes out to that journalist who felt uncomfortable in that situation. I cant imagine how she feels. I think too much is being made about the situation. I think he was trying to be friendly and light hearted. You dont think he was calling out her appearance or making assumptions about the quality of her work because of her looks . I dont see that at all. I see him people beat me up on twitter all night about this. But i can see him in a situation trying to be friendly to a male journalist as well. But he hasnt done it. He hasnt called out male journalists and tell them they may have a cute butt. I missed the part where he said that about this girl in the video tonight. That were talking about here. I think he was trying to be friendly. This is part of his nature, his personality and i believe way too much is being made about this. He said nothing about her butt, maria. Im making a comparison that he would never do anything like this at all if she had been a man. He does call out jim acosta. Yes, but its generally not quite as flattering as he was with this woman. So, listen, the reporter tweeted, matt, the reporter tweeted after the exchange calling it the bizarre moment when President Trump called me over during his call. What do you think . You think its appropriate when the president is on the phone with a world leader . Was this a fun moment or do you find it offensive, or what . Im with alice on this. When i think this is much ado about nothing. I think its you know, i dont know, Political Correctness run amok. Something like that. I dont think its a big deal, number one. Number two, this is a guy of a certain age. I think joe biden, joe biden, joe biden has said and done a lot worse. And so has donald trump for that matter. But look, this is purely innocent unless there is something that wasnt on the tape. And maybe there is more that we havent seen. But based on what you just showed me, it seems perfectly innocent to me. Well, then why was she feeling so uncomfortable . Why, alice she didnt seem uncomfortable. She said the bizarre moyrjts she said it was bizarre moment. I think she wants publicity. Thats the kind of thing that you want to get publicity you go on twitter and you say something. Thats what you say if you want to sort of like have your 15 minutes of fame, i think. I didnt find the word bizarre to mean uncomfortable or sexist. He was on the phone and he is oh, your journalist is in the room. She looks great. Or he is wearing a nice suit, or i like his necktie. He didnt talk about her butt or anything like that. It was an inappropriate moment coming from the president of the United States as he is doing an official call to another leader, period. You guys. I cant believe youre making excuses for him. Would you rather he disclose information to russian officials . [ laughter ] i absolutely agree with you on 100 there, don, that there are so many other completely horrible things that this man has done as leader of the free world. You were talking in your last segment about how were lowering the bar. The fact that were having this conversation and everyone thinks it is okay, that is part of lowers the bar for the president of the United States. Maria, i dont think anyone is saying its okay. I think people are saying its much ado about nothing. Its really not that big of a deal. That is almost the same as saying that its okay. That oh, look, he has done much worse. We shouldnt even think about this. We shouldnt even mention this. No. This is not okay. We have Young Children that are watching this man. What is wrong with saying that somebody setting an example. What wrong with saying somebody is attractive . A young lady had a very colorful blouse. I said you look very nice today. You look very summery. I walked into the elevator and she walked out of the building. And i think i saw her tweet that that was really bizarre, don. You made my point better than i would. Whats wrong with saying . I will tell you. I will tell you what is wrong wit. It is context. Don you are not in a public setting. You were not representing the United States of america on the phone with another leader of a nation. You were not the commander in chief. You were not in a room full of professional journalists, men and women. And you were not calling out just that one woman and telling her she had a pretty smile and saying that because she had a pretty smile, she probably covered the Prime Minister in a positive way. It is completely offensive, you guys. Period. I think the sooutrage is so overblown. She said it was bizarre. She didnt say she was offended or disgusted by it. She said it was bizarre. As a journalist going into the oval office, im sure he had one idea what this engagement or this ebb counter was going to be like. And it didnt include what happened. But i think bizarre is a far cry from all the hype that is being made about this situation. Bizarre is not okay when youre looking to have a normal encounter, professional encounter with the president of the United States. You are there to cover as a professional journalist. Bizarre is also not okay. Again, lowering the bar. He didnt say you look hot or anything inappropriate. At some point like you cant compliment somebody on that summery blouse, don. Because thats crossing the line. You shouldnt. You shouldnt compliment somebody when you are the leader of the free world. What about youre a Television Host . Come on. Representing the United States and you are talking to a woman journalist from another country, you know, even so. And calling her out because she has a nice smile. Why couldnt he call her out because of the great piece she had written last week . He said she had a great piece, i think that would be a story. [ laughter ] i think its outrageous, way over board. Oh my god. Alice. That was good. How much time do we have left . I just want to say that alice, you look nice in your white blouse. You look very summery and you look great on tv. Your hair looks great. Thank you. Matt, youre very handsome in your suit, no necktie. I like it. And maria, i think you look great in red. And youre also wearing wonder woman sneakers. Thats right. Don and matt, i think both of you look really hot. Thank you. See, i would take that as a huge compliment. Thats not bizarre at all. This is off the rails. Alice, you look really hot too. And you look beautiful. Bye, yall. Thanks. Good night. Megans smile is getting a lot of attention because she uses act® mouthwash.
