On the campaign i called it the forgotten man add the forgotten woman. Well youre not forgotten anymore, that i can tell you. Okay so listen, the guy is going to be inaugurated tomorrow so cut him some slack. Everyone is happy for him but how many times have you heard that speech. Not going to give slack. I the thing is, whether its appropriate. Okay he won. Many people didnt think he would and he won. Is this appropriate moment for that speech . No, no. Its not appropriate. Bottom line is you can be a sore winner and he has become one. Fact of the matter is he didnt win the popular vote but swron the electoral and will be sworn in and be president for at least the next four years, one of the most powerful people in the world, why is he lit gagt a campaign he already won . Doesnt make sense. Hes doing it because there are people not bowing down to him. He wants to win over people he hasnt won over. Thats not how you do it. Im not saying this is the way. But thinks the motivation. I dont think it works but it shows hes bothered by the fact that he has his base, he knows he has it, but he thinks just going to keep saying this over and over and over and suddenly everyone will go youre right. And so many democratic congressmen not showing up in protest. You think its getting to him . John lewis controversy got to him. Hundreds of thousands of people coming here to protest, moms coming on busses to washington to say youre misogynist. Still has the wounds from the campaign, thought would heal in the florida sunshine but back in january and still not healed. What would you have the man do . I hear him talk about the forgotten man, on the one hand speaking to people who turned out to get him in office this time. To a certain degree democrats didnt campaign to them. On the other hand sounds like populist not conservative. He needs to be a little more optimistic and about the broad themes of america or else he risks sending wrong message to the republican majority and the electorate. David gergen i hear you and thank you, people who voted for me. Those of you who didnt vote for me, i am your president as well and were going to start from here with a presidency for all the country. It was a tough election but thats the rearview mirror. I dont think he yet figured out how to be thematic and also to have these policies sit within a theme and then act out that narrative. Theres a disconnect between having a cabinet with a bunch of billionaires saying youre going to look after the working people and havent produced policies yet other than going after carrier and thing like that, to make a difference in their lives. Hes got to figure that out. Theres consistency between themes and policies and what he believes that hes going to express in his inaugural address, his vision for america. Once he gets there and keeps his eye on the economic side, on jobs, i think he can recover. Its not out of the question. Do you think he realizes i ha hate to say president of the world but leader in the free world. Whole world is watching, not just people who voted for him.
