Reporter the 2006 Police ReportFirst Published lasts weekend details allegations against the oldest duggar son,. He has since apologized. But the document destroyed by judges orders gives a glimpse into life that cameras dont tell about, how they discipline the kids. When ask about being spanked, it says mother and dad spank, they have a rod. And fans of the family are coming to their defense. People signing a petition to save the show. Parents have said on facebook we pray that as people watch our lives, they see were not a perfect family but more fall out from the duggar family. The streaming service, hulu announcing its dropping 19 kids and counting rr. Tlc has pulled all reruns. New episodes are not currently in production. Theres still no word from athe network of whether the series will return with the entire family or in any form. Alexandra fields cnn new york. Josh duggar said he received counseling and sought forgiveness but what about his victims that include siblings. And now were going to talk to these two penists, they were sexually abused by their father. You both know what its like to be behind this sort of the dark secret behind a wholesome family and you wroit about all of a sudden this happening to you and it was like fast moving train you couldnt stop it. Thats right. Theres so much pressure if youre in the public eye even a little bit and you have any type of abuse in your past you feel like theres a dark secret that at any moment is going to be exposed. Does it ever go away . I dont think it ever really goes away but healing takes place. I dont think youre supposed to ever forget. Its part of what makes you who you are. Weve talked a lot the focus has been a lot on josh duggar and not on the victims. In his response he mentions himself and the victims were rarely mentioned in that. What do you think do you think theyve had a chance to come to terms with what happened to them . Honestly it takes victims well into their 40s before they can really start to go through those past experiences and come to terms with what has happened and how the course of their lives has been changed. So i imagine theyre in the beginning stages. Theyre scared and wondering if theres any guilt they should put on themselves. And we feel for those sisters because it didnt come out on their own terms and theyre having to deal with the aftermath, which is quite heavy. You said i grew up in a culture that valued chasttyness and i felt such embarrassment that everyone i now knew would know about this. Was it the ultimate to keep that part secret . This sort of fake idea that everything was pure and the family was perfect and how big a role was it in your family and in your child hood . I think often times when the abuse happens within families or in a relationship thats close to the victim which 80 of this type of abuse is, then theres shame and humiliation with anyone knowing about it. And its one of the tactics abusers use. They want everything to stay secret. So the fact they kept quiet for so long is a secret. There are people saying cristianty is under attack now. Sometimes within closed cultures they want to keep quiet, if it reflects badly on the family on the religion they want it to be dealt with in the family and in the church and sometimes that inadvertently keeps victims quiet and paralies them. And i wonder if duggar girls, the members who were abused if this will offer them some sort of strength to come forward because you guys came forward. What was a deciding factor in you guys coming forward . I would hope that they would realize how many preme rallying behind them and how many people hope they will be able to continue on and do things they want in their lives p. And for us it was a big decision. We didnt know how those around us would feel if we would lose the support of family members and friends but ultimately it needed to be done, our father was managing other young women and we knew we couldnt go through our lives wondering if we could have done something to protect someone and didnt. All blessings and power to those young women and i hope theyre able to continue on in their lives and do the things they would hope to. Did you all get together and say, listen, this happened to me and then you decided to come forward. If you could quickly take me through the process, i would appreciate it. Go ahead, desiree. No. Oh sure. It wasnt until well into our adult years that we realized we were not the only ones in the family unit and it was shocking and hard to know people close to you had suffered in that way. And when this came public we knew we wanted to Start Foundation foundation for survivals of abuse and our main goal was to work with legislatures and open the window for the signs of abuse, so victims can prosecute when theyre read ey and not be on a time table. And were excited to oo work on National Levels to be able to make sure this happens. Were work an amazing project with senator harry reed. The bill is buyingbeing drafted and were working with senator reeds office right now, currently looking for a cosponsor and were very excited to announce that victims across this country will continue to be protected under the laws of the land. Thats huge for you guys to do that and its very curages. Thank you. And i want to ask you about i dont know what your fathers reaction was but josh duggar said it was a long time ago for him and hes gotten over it and gotten past it. What do you think about that . Abusers almost always say that. They say that because it was so long ago, it doesnt matter. But we dont expect murderers to be exonerated because they were young. There should be consequences for that. I really appreciate what you wrote. Its very moving. Its on your blog. Yes, surviving abuse. Org. Well put itten u enit up on the cnn tonight website. You guys are very curages and let us know what happens with the legislation. Thank you. And why some duggar members say it is an attack on cristianty. Im priginant. Do not touch me. What the [ bleep] is going on. Thanks for calling angies list. How may i help you . I heard i could call angies list if i needed work done around my house at a fair price. You probably know xerox as the company thats all about printing. But did you know we also support hospitals using Electronic Health records for more than 30 million patients . Or that our Software Helps over 20 million smartphone users remotely configure email every month . Or how about processing nearly 5 billion in electronic toll payments a year . In fact, todays xerox is working in surprising ways to help companies simplify the way work gets done and life gets lived. With xerox, youre ready for real business. Some are saying christian values are under attack in the duggar family scandal p. And here to talk about it. Wayne, you said josh duggar i could care less about, i pray for the young girls who have to go through ait at the time. Nothing to do with crishristianity. Why do you feel this has nothing to do with christianity . Bottom line is this young man did something terrible at his age but for me as a christian, this doesnt define who i am. It dudoesnt have anything to do with the faith that i serve. Now, if thats what they want to stand behind after all these years, if thats what the family wants to stand behind but it doesnt have anything to do with the Christian Faith itself. You dont have us going out and con condoning this. In fact if you look on soelths mead social media right now, there are christians angry about this and letting their voices be heard. But there are christians as well who are defending josh duggar duggar. They said go on and defend your christian brother. The response even in their own response that dark and difficult time caused us to seek god even more than before gods kindness and forgiveness and he said i saw asought forgiveness for those i had wronged and they mention god and christianity throughout their response. How do you say this has nothing to do with that . Ive seen some of those tweets. Forget the tweets. The familys response to this has been in a spiritual and christianlike manner. If you look at the familys response the reason they said they didnt do it was because they were going by their spiritual principals but it didnt have anything to do with being a christian. Whatever that young boy did at that time it didnt have anything to do with being a christian. Of course it doesnt. But people are talking about their response to it, how they responded to it. No one condonees that christian, 8atheist, whatever. They might be hiding behind it and running behind it but it doesnt have anything to do with it and if christians would take up that personal responsibility they would call him out too. I dont think what he did was right. I have two 11yearold daughters that there going to be 12 in a couple of weeks. I cant imagine Something Like that happening to my daughters. So i am going to speak out against this young man. Do i have a place to put him in . I dont. But it doesnt have anything to do with being a christian. Don, if theres anything we have learned from the sex abuse crisis in the church is that you cant simply throw holy water all over issues like this and over spiritualize them or pray them away. Hes a serious psychological and legal issues. Its not about forgiveness, its not about love. Its about accountability. Christians are called to accountability same as anybody else. You dont get a free pass because you say you have to forgive. That means, perhaps saying to someone, i dont hold resentment against you but i am going to hold you accountable and thats fumillial accountability and societytle accountability. Is there too much pressure on the abusers to forgive their abusers. Its a wonderful teaching but is it always right, father . I think we miss understand what forgiveness is don. It does not mean forgetting what happened and it doesnt even mean absolving the purson for the action. It means im going to set you free from what you did but you still have a responsibility to a reperation perhaps legal consequences. Im not absolving you of that just because im setting you free of what youve done. And to tell you the truth, ive seen people do this forgiveness thing on social media and ive also talked to a compeople who did the same thing. He has to be held accountable for it but in my heart it doesnt i thinking to say christianity is under attack i think youre being a bit disingen ws or naive. No, but christianity is under attack because you have one side that is saying that all day long, see what christians do, see how they act, see how they its not like that. You cannot hide behind christianity as a way of absolving this. I think theres a hypocrisy in it and its not under attack. Hulu has removed 19 kids and counting episodes from its streaming site and tlc had already removed it from the line up. Is there a future . Lets take a deep breath here shannon. Thank you. Its good to see you. By the way, were not attacking christianity here were trying to give light to the victims and take the stigma out of this. Still no word from the network. Does that surprise you . I mean look the show is pretty toxic right now and clearly they have a hit show they make a lot of money off this show but the money is going to start falling away. You already have five major advertisers who have distanced themselves from the show disengaged and hulu pulled t theyre not showing reruns. Dont forgitet there is the second black eye. There was also a scandal with Honey Boo Boo where they to cancel the show. It doesnt look like its going to come back. How long can tlc wait on this with advertiser after adverters dropping them . I dont know. Its a matter of days. Its not going to be weeks. Is this about trying to preserve the spin off that theyre trying to do. The reason theyre not making a decision a decision isnt imminent is because theyre not in production right now but theyre also trying a spin off with the daughters. I cant say for sure but i think that that approach is maybe what theyre trying to salvage out of a very embarrassing scandal. So if there was some way to keep the show off the air for a while, let things calm down and then bring back a spin off that doesnt involve josh duggar then you could see them going that oroute. And that might be a strategy that could work for them. And theres also a strategy of we have a ritual of going on a apology tour and publicly atoning for things and doing very public act to of not just of atonement but also showing youve learned the lessons of the past and you do deserve to be in peoples living rooms. That might also be under discussion. But there was show much attention on this. Its not going to come back any time soon. I appreciate your perspective. And thank you, sharon again. Ive been living in a fools paradise. Making political news tonight, form House Speaker indicted for allegedly lying to the fbi for about 3 1 2 Million Dollars he paid to a subject to hide past misconduct. And joining me now political commontator. All right. Joe, this is a star. What do we know . He once second in line to the presidency now accused of making false statements to the fbi and trying to hide large financial contracts that was akin to hush money. According to the indictment Dennis Haster agreed to pay 3. 5 Million Dollars to individual a payments meant to compensate and conseal his quote prior misconduct. And it says from approximately 1965 to 1981 haster was a High School Teacher and coach in york vill illinois and has known the defendant, hastert most of the individuals life. It doesnt describe what the misconduct was but does say individual a knew him for that long time. A lot of kwepgzquestions out there as to what all of this was and we do know that in december of last year the fbi launched an investigation into the payment and whether he was trying to avoid currency payments as well. And when he was asked about this he didnt exactly come clean and thats what got him into deeper trouble, the cover up so to speak. That is always a problem. Isnt it. The indictment suggests that he lies to the fbi, which can get you into a lot of trouble. In december of last year hastert told agents that withdrawals were because he didnt trust a Bank Statement and this is just a stung term for the former republican leader of the house, who was speaker up for 1989 until he stepped down in 2007. Since then hes been a lobbyist as a firm and they quickly removed the biography from the website when this indictment was brought out. Thats a lot of money. Do we know the nature of the misconduct . No obviously that is the question tonight. Who is this individual a . We dont know much and as joe pointed out, there are tant liesing clues. For some reason they decided to mention his time as High School Coach and the fact that he knew individual a going back many decades, that they had some kind of longterm previous relationship. We have no idea the nature of that. And the big question is what kind of misconduct would someone like Dennis Hastert agree to pay 3. 5 Million Dollars to cover up and conseal and when confronted about ait, according to indictment by the fbi, lied about it. It said he was taking this money out and actually kept the cash and thats what got him in trouble with the fbi. Why would someone of his stater lie to the fbi . We do know it says in the indictment that they started the investigation because they noticed the charge is called structuring. Basically, you take 10,000 of cash out of a bank account, the bank is supposed to inform the government of that. So when they came and said hey, youre take lot of cash out, he then started taking out less than 10,000 at a time and thats what caught the attention of the fbi and they said they were originally looking into the possibility that he was being blackmailed. And i think its clear from the indictment that the fbi gathered we cant say this with 100 certainty, but it does seem very possible that this individual a did give . Information to the fbi. Thats one reasonable assumption that the fbi went to individual a and obtained some facts about this person. I dont think its going to take a long time to hear what the nature of this relationship was. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. Coming up im going to hear from this woman in this shocking video. The city of bairstow released this statement it is apparent that she actively resisted arrest bairstow Police Department continues to be proactive in training the officers. This situation was in no way racially motivated. So lets talk to the woman arrested after she dropped off her child at school and also her attorney. Thank you for joining us. Good evening. Thank you for having us. How are you and your baby doing . Were hanging in there. Taking it one day at a time. So, you were dropping your daughter off at school. What happened that day. The Police Attacked me. But you got into an altercation with another parent in the parking lot, correct . It was a minor dispute with another teacher in the parking lot. And she said that you were beating on the window. Did that happen . No. So you didnt beat on the window . No. So the cops arrived and spoke to her, correct . Yes. Did they ever ask her her name or for any identification . No. No. Asked you . For my name. Do you believe race played a part in howia were treated in comparison to the other woman . Yes. Why is that . His demeanor towards her and myself was just two different two different demeanors. Approach was different. The officer thought that you were resisting arrest and refusing to give an id. Do you think you should have done anything differently . Im going to say one thing, mr. Lemon. Its always a common tactic for the police to put the victim on trial. Actually shes a survivor. Sheez rar survivor of excessive force. So were taking the victim issue out of it and its common tactic to say, what could you have done differently. Why didnt you just show the id . Well theres a thing in the constitution called the constitution. She was within her legal rights to stand where she was standing. She was never told that she was under arrest. Never told that she couldnt walk away. In fact you hair the officer specifically say, there has been no crime, maam, he treated the blond female with tender love and kindness and then energy towards my client was that of a dpretermination thatd she was going to jail. So its not so much asking the victim what could you ahave done not to get thrown to the ground . What could that officer have done . Maybe he could have treated her with just a little bit of care . I understand what youre saying but i disagree with you. When i looked at the video it did seem for a nonincident that it did escalate very quickly. So that is the essence of my question. Could anybody there have done anything differently . Even in explaining her story. Thats it and also but the law says in california that you dont have to show your identification and you dont have to give your name. So she was within her legal right. So then now what happens . What is the recourse . What do you do now . What do you want . I do nighmy job and sue him for violating my clients Constitutional Rights and what she does is try to not be so fearful of police and we monitor the baby whose life he jeopardized. Thats what we do next. No charges were ever brought forward. Actually they were brought forward and jury was empanelled and a week before i think closing arguments, the da miraculously came up with this video. So there are a lot of questions we have. But there are a lot of questions of a lot of people that we intend to ask and pursue aggressively. And no one saw this video until you said in the last moments, miraculously they it came forward. They were really pressuring her to take plea bargain and thats common. If you plea to certain things in the criminal code, some would say it precludes a civil rights lawsuit. But if he could have gotten her penalized or convicted for this 148 penal code section 148, it would have made her lawsuit very difficult to go forward. And thats what they were trying to make her do but she stood fast shy stood on the constitution and the charges were dismissed. The judge saw through it when the videotape was played in court out of the presence of the jury. Does this change the way you feel any feelings you ahave about Law Enforcement . Im more fearful. Very fearful. Theyre capable of anything now pp. Thank you. Thats quite a story. We appreciate you joining us here on cnn. Thanks for having us. The officer has a conversation first with the white lady and then with the black woman and then only asks the black woman for her identity. Whats going on here . First of all, don, its important to note in the state of california you dont have to give your name or identity to police in these situations and the bairstow police know that. Theyve been involved in a similar case where two brothers were asked for their identity in a similar case where no crime was committed, the city settled with those two individuals and the police acknowledged that in these stop and identify cases, citizens dont have to give their identity. So its very troubling to me that the police escalated this situation and she ends up on the ground arrested 8 months pregnant and the blond woman didnt even ask her name and her story was completely accepted and believed by this Police Officer. Surely a bias against michelle. And the officer actually tells her, i dont see a crime thats been committed here so why even ask the black woman for her id . Whats disturb to me is labels black woman white woman. By my eyes as a former south bronx cop, nothing to do with color. I see a person so bill okay. Thats a bunch of crap. Because ive been in similar situations where i have called police and the police go over to the white person and say, what do you want and the person says oh he called police and like their whole world gets confused. Your experience is indicative of every Police Interaction across america. Its not indicative but yes, there is some creedance to that. Many times they will walk up to a scene and depending on how they look will act differently. The cop walks up and says i dont see an evidence of a crime, why not say, both of you ladies go to your corners and calm down instead of arresting a pregnant woman and throwing her to the ground. The officer eskscalated the situation. Thats my opinion. Not yours. I saw a person call 911. Obviously, this woman had a reason to call 911. And the only time that race was brought into it was when the Lady Michelle says this woman is a white woman. You saw that. If the roles were reversed would we be having the same conversation. If they threw a pregnant white woman on the ground and the white woman they threw on the ground said theyre treating me differently because of race i think wed have a similar conversation. Counselor say she didnt want to show her id but reluctant lay did because she is 8 months pregnant and doesnt want any trouble, then shouldnt she call the lawyer after the fact. Wouldnt this totally have been avoided . Thats not law, bill. Youre putting the owness on michelle. Trained Police Officers are supposed to know the law and carry it out. The law doesnt say they get to pick and choose. This is so racial that it slaps you upside your head. The Police Officer tells the entire story based on what the white woman said. He never says that michelle disputed the case and that she said nothing was done on her part. So we have implicit bias against michelle and in favor of the woman who made the call. Quickly. Im not lilly white, i dont have blond hair blue eyes. Ive been stopped by Police Officers out of new york city. When a cop asks me for id you show it. If the law is that you dont have to and youre involved in a silly little fight like that yrj not so sure i would want to either. Pain from your day can haunt you at night, dont let it.
