>> reporter: there is no missing the nervous energy and excitement that i think any couple that is about to get married is facing, and beyond that, t. j., this is a day that many gay rights activist have been waiting for for a lifetime. you can see the couples lining up and have been here for a couple hours. some women in wedding gowns as well. a lot of tuxedos. and there are 800 couples getting married here, and more than half here at city hall. i spent some time yesterday helping to get things done, and noticing a lot of jitters. these two are way beyond excited. would you say you have butterflies in your stomach right now? >> butterflies, more like dragon flies in my stomach. >> reporter: the significance has not escaped them, or what they hope to proudly tell their children one day. >> i guess what will tell them when we were young there was no such thing as gay people getting married, and we were there when it happened. >> they planned on saving the e-mail from city hall allowing them to get married. >> as soon as i got this line -- >> did you scream? >> yes, and you could hear me around the city. >> reporter: they have been together five years. together they supported the same-sex marriage movement. >> i have people in my life where they are not totally okay with it and they accept it, and just the fact that they respect us because of that, it's really the most that i can ask for. >> reporter: before the ceremony, lots to do. marcos picks up wild flower bouquets for their brides maids, and champagne for after the ceremony. they have already been wearing their rings for five years. >> these have been five years we have had these, and we're just going to polish them up and exchange them again. we were not able to do so. it's going to be uncontrollable emotions for me. >> i can say the same thing. i know just knowing that, you know, i am going to have marcos by my side for the rest of my life -- >> reporter: we have learned that freddy and marcos will be the fourth couple to be married this morning. we will get to see that happen in half an hour. >> we will check in with you at the bottom of the hour, suzanne candiotti. a big day around new york and around the nation. same-sex marriage in new york came back a long battle in the state legislature. the speaker fought to get it passed. this morning i asked one of the most prominently gay officials about this day. >> it's the place where the lgbt civil rights movement was really born, and to have this state -- i don't meant to soupd so arrogant, but to have the center of the world do this, all eyes are on it. it will help propel this movement forward faster than any of the other states have. >> as we mentioned, come you go up at the bottom of the hour, those marriage ceremonies are set to start at the manhattan city clerk's office. this is a history-making day. new york, the state, the largest state in the union to approve same-sex marriages, and those marriages start today at the bottom of the hour. our coverage will continue. i want to turn to norway where the healing is under way after friday's massacre. a memorial service just wrapped up in the capital of oslo. the death toll now at 93. police say the suspected, anders behring breivik, has confessed to the bombing in oslo and the shootings on utoya island at a youth camp. they are still looking for bodies both in oslo and on the island, and four people are still missing from the youth camp. also, a short time ago police carried out what they are calling, quote, an operation in the eastern part of oslo. they say it's part of their investigation into these attacks. and one other thing the police are taking a closer look at is this. this is an online manifesto published on the day of attacks and it is supposedly from the suspect, and it has pictures of him wearing some type of uniform, and this manifesto is 1,500 pages long. scary stuff in there, diana. >> reporter: yes, t. j. it really maps out his vision of a europe without muslims and without multiculturalism, and those are two core parts of his far-right thinking. he has an action plan, really, for how this goal can be achieved by 2083, and that's the year where he predicts the european civil war will be over and leaders will be deposed and before that sort of groups will be formed to try and achieve this. this is an action plan of how he wants to eradicate europe of muslims. it's very far right ideology. he also talks about, for example, the sexual practices of his own family and friends, very conservative thinking on those fronts, and a lot about his background. you see pictures of him. you hear about how he plans to carry out the attacks, and he got himself a farm so he could buy fertilizer and how to go through the process of bomb-making without being detected, and the most chilling thing in the manifesto is his last entry, and he says i believe this will be my last entry, it's july 22, 12:31, and then hours later he detonated the blast in oslo. >> thank you. the body of the grammy-award winning singer was found yesterday in her london apartment, and the song you may recognize most from her most may prove prophetic. amy winehouse was only 27 years old. the song "rehab," talking about not wanting to go to rehab, and apparently a lot of people are speculating her may have lost her well-documented battle with substance abuse. we head outside the singer's apartment. what else might we be learning about this case? [ major nutrition ] new ensure high protein. ensure! nutrition in charge! 39 minutes past the hour. as we have been telling you this morning, it's a day of celebration for many same-sex couples in new york. but there's news that a clinic run by michele bachmann's husband encourages gays and lesbians to change their sexual orientation. it's called conversion therapy. joining me now is an authority of christian counseling at grove city college in pennsylvania. appreciate you being here. this got attention on the campaign trail in the last couple of weeks, but is this a wide-spread practice? can you find a lot of places that offer this conversion therapy? >> well, it's increasingly less frequent, that's for sure. even the evangelical community has been moving away from the practice, and that would be the area of the community that would be most likely who would see it, but even there it's falling into disfavor. >> you say they are moving away from it but it's out there in some places now. what exactly does it involve? >> well, that's a great question. let me answer it this way. conversion therapy has historically been an idea of changing the sexual orientation. not many practicing would call it that. it's called orientation change efforts. it's a variety of things people try to do, anything from praying for strength or bible reading for encouragement, or support groups to encourage them to become more masculine, or feminine depending on their jennifer, identity, one of the more popular versions involves -- or is based upon a particular view of how homosexuality is caused, and it's because they are gay because they have not bonded well with the same-sex parent. it's a theory where if they identify better they will find the opposite sex attractive. >> i can tell you the american psychological solution condemned this treatment. is that pretty much the attitude of the mental health community out there, if you will, is that, folks, this is hocas pocas and doesn't work. >> i am sure that is in the medical community. >> many christians, many christian homosexuals have this conflict, and even themselves may think that something is wrong with them. is that part of the reason that this type of therapy was born in the first place? >> well, right. that conflict is very real for people who believe that the bible teaches against homosexually, but they feel attracted to the same-sex themselves, and they are left with the conflict, and conversion therapy was an effort of the profession to try and address that, although the roots of it go back beyond the christian struggle, i think. but in recent days, since most practitioners are themselves, religious in one way or another, i think that's where you see the emphasis on it, and we saw it in the bachmann clinic where people are coming in for some kind of conflict, and they are looking for answers that are consistent with their faith. >> again, warren, it's a conversation a lot of people have been having because it has been in the news lately, and we appreciate you being here and your expertise in you being with us. thank you. >> thank you. you can share your comments and read more about this conversion therapy as it is called at cnn.com/belief. it's 44 minutes past the hour now. today is a day people have been waiting for literally some say their entire lives. that's a live picture inside the clerk's office in new york city where the first same-sex marriage ceremonies are set to take place at any moment. stay with us. say i'm missing england. i type in e-n-g... and he gives me a variety of options. would you like to have a look at a map, my lad? ah, why not? shall we check on the status of your knighthood? yes. again? yes, again, please! thank you. with my digital manservant, i'll never be homesick again. would you like me to put the kettle on, sir? no, i'd like you to get rid of that ostrich. it's been here a month. >> absolutely. >> with the speaker? >> yes. >> so there you go. the negotiations with the white house, according to the white house and treasury secretary guide inner, those negotiations are still going on. and also in the interview, which we taped about 20 or 15 minutes ago, that in fact he didn't rule out a big debt deal yet, so i would say the whole thing is still in flux. >> we keep talking about a deadline of august 2nd, but there's another deadline floating around that expires in a few hours. you need to come out and show you're on the right track before asian markets open, and you have a deal in place to let them vote on it on capitol hill. >> yeah, there's seven or eight nine days for the first deadline, but it was geithner himself in the meeting yesterday with congress and leaders on capitol hill, you don't know how asian markets will respond to the idea of speaker boehner and the president broke off conversations about a debt deal. i asked him about that, like, what would the asian markets do?
