Breach at maralago, a chinese woman carrying a thumb drive with malware is arrested at the resort. Now the secret service has some explaining to do. Up first, the full Mueller Report redacted with underlying documents that is what democrats are demanding. Now they have the power of a season to get it. A house a short time ago gives house judiciary chairman jerry nadler permission to use a subpoena. Its not clear when he will do this. We will work with the attorney general for a short period of time in the hope that he will reveal to us the entire Mueller Report and all the underlying materials and well go to court to get permission to have the 6e material, but if that doesnt work out in a very short order, we will issue the subpoena. Reporter are you willing to negotiate any middle grow under in terms of redactions of the Mueller Report . No. Reporter you are not . No, the committee must see everything as was done in every prior instance. Attorney general bill barr promised to release a redacted version by the middle of this month. Maybe sooner. Senior congress am correspondent manu raju is following all of this on capitol hill. Democrats are flexing their muscle. How is this likely to play out . What else are they pushing for . Reporter its almost a graham of chicken. The democrats are waiting for the Justice Department to signal, make the next move to supply the full Mueller Report immediately. They are not signaling when those subpoenas will officially be served. I asked jerry nadler when he wants to do it. All he would say is a very short order. As you heard, he would not answer my quy, or not say he would be opened to any redactions whatsoever. He said they need to see the full report. That is much different than the senate republicans, the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham took a much different approach. He told me moments ago he does not want to see a fully unredacted Mueller Report. I want the bar to come before the committee may the 1st and present the report, minus grand jury information. Minus classified information. I dont need to look at a million documents, just tell us about the report. Reporter unredacted you . Dont want to see the unredacted report . Thats the whole point i dont need to see the dpraj testimony. Much different tactics on the house side, not only interestingr subpoenaing for subpoenaing for the full Mueller Report. The House Oversight committee issued suspense over security clearance seeking also the Oversight Committee set a deadline for trump Financial Statements on allegedly inflating his assets, democrats looking for other ways to put republicans on record, namely whether they support the notion of closing the border. So as you see, split congress, split tactics, democrats going after the president , his policies, we will see how the justice and the White House Department ultimately respond. Thank you. The president s bluster on key issues may be weighing on the white house. On healthcare, he said republicans were working on a new plan, until they werent. And hes gone from closing the southern border to maybe some of it or maybe not closing it. The Republican Party will soon be known as the party of healthcare. You watch. Mr. President i want to put it after the election, because we dont have the house, even though the healthcare is good, really good, its much better than when the plan comes out, which well be showing you at the appropriate time. Its much better than obamacare. So mexicos tough, that i can stop them. If they dont stop them, were closing the border. We will close it, we will keep it closed for a long time, im not playing games. I really wanted to close it, but now mexico says, no, no, no, first time in decades, we will not let anybody debt through. And theyve apprehended over a thousand people today. Our Kaylin Collins is at the white house, kaylin, its difficult to really keep track of where the president is at any given moment on these particular issues. Reporter well. Right. With these two in particular, these latest pushes, there was never any strategy to begin with, based with our sources not only in the white house but also on capitol hill are telling us. Today the president is tweeting he did not want republicans to vote on a healthcare replacement plan before the 2020 president ial election. He swats done reporting the Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell is the one who had advised him to change his mind here. Actually the president was pushing republicans to come one a replacement for obamacare after his Justice Department threw its weight behind a lawsuit that would invalidate the Affordable Care act. Republicans were shocked by that move. They do not have a backup plan. Every time they came up with one they failed. The president is saying he never wanted that vote to come which only came after a steady stream of calls from lawmakers. It was a big surprise to people in the white house, on monday morning when they came to work, there was a sense of a scramble and a panic because they said the president did not believe was serious about that threat until they heard nick mulvaney, the chief of say say unless something dramatic happened, he expected President Trump to close the border. Part of that panic resulted if white house officials telling the president either tore shift the blame to congress, because they were going to start new immigration laws or point to mexico is apprehending more people, therefore, preventing more people from coming up to the southern border of the United States. Whether or not he follows through on this is anyones guess, it seems less likely than white house officials were worried about at the beginning of this week. Wow, Kaylin Collins, the tour from the internal debate. Thank you from the white house. Who ill the president is waffleing over border crossings, closings i should say on healthcare, democrats are setting the stage for a showdown over the Mueller Report. Democratic congresswoman Madeleine Dean is with us from capitol hill. Thanks for being with us. Reporter my pleasure. So your Committee Led by chairman nadler voted today to authorize subpoenas for the full unredacted Mueller Report among other things. So now its an option, right . Its on the table, it can be used. Why did you and your fellow democrats think it was important to do that now instead of waiting until the middle of the month, if not sooner, which is when the attorney general said hell be releasing this report redacted with help from Robert Mueller . Reporter well, we have anna, thanks, for having me on. I have to mention to you, ive just come from a joint session where the general secretary of nato spoke to us about the important history of our partnership in nato. And he talked about foreign foes. We live in a dangerous world, there are foreign foes, we are stronger together so why would we put together the request for a subpoena today . Were doing our job. This is article 1 oversight, important work we have to do. The time table is our own. The American People are entitled to full disclosure of the report. The republicans voted for that very thing and the president wanted that as well. So in this world of chaos that this administration, everybody seals to have pivoted away from full transparency of the report, we have a job to do if judiciary. Issue the subpoenas, if they become necessary. You want, so you want the full report unredacted, right . That is correct. Congress is entitled to the full report. So what attorney general barr is planning to release pretty soon is a redacted report. You dont know at this point how redacted it is. Is there a problem with that time line . That you are seeking the possible use of a subpoena earlier than he said midapril or sooner . I think really what we have is the subpoena power in place. Certainly we want to work with attorney general barr. But we do notice he thinks he would be offering us a redacted version. We want the full report and the underlying documents. No redactions. Congress has the ability and has the legal right to see the entire report. Lets talk about healthcare. Because the president has supported this effort in the courts to entirely throw out obamacare. But then after some big promises, he said republican senators were hammering out a plan for an obamacare replacement, we know from our source they actually were not. He now says the republicans wont release a plan until after the 2020 elections, he is telling his party this is actually a good issue for them. Lets listen. We have so much. They have healthcare right now. We have to take that away from them. We take that away, we will not even come close. So heres the concept. We have to protect and cannot run away from a thing called preexisting conditions. We cant do it. Do you worry that republicans could take away some of the positives of obamacare that democrats enjoy politically from your party . Ill tell you what, our Democratic Caucus wont let that happen. Certainly i worry, can you imagine using this as a political football. The healthcare, the health and wellbeing and the lives, the very lives of americans. Last week, the president went through a set of chaotic steps. He was happy with the barr letter, pivoted to im going to tear down aca, i have a plan to replace it. Then he had no plan to replace it. Then he was going to shut down the border wall and then shut down human aide, all the while we have children still in cages, some of our reporters said in kennels. This is not the american way. And so for the president to have played i think absolutely foolishly with the notion of our healthcare, and the millions of people who have gotten coverage, whether its preexisting conditions or kids staying on your coverage, its a cruel joke that this president is going through. I want to ask you about a topic that has come up here recently. There is a Record Number of women in the new congress of which are you a part and we are hearing them, some of them, speak out about incidents that theyve experienced. You have Democratic Congress women, katy hill, al alexandria ocasiocortez who have referred to these incidents as archaic sexism, largely about sexist comments they feel are institutionalized in congress. Do you see it that way . Im not aware i have not talked to either of the representative about what has been offensive to them. You havent experienced anything like they described as personally, which isnt to cast any doubt on what theyre saying, you personally havent experienced anything what theyve described . No, i havent. But i do say, whether its sitting today at the joint session, take a look at the democratic side of the aisle. The beautiful diversity that is our Democratic Caucus with so many women. So many people of color. So i absolutely reject any sexism. None of my colleagues should have to suffer that. So i stand with that. What do you think is, you know, some of the things that theyve described. They described comments. Theyve described being mistaken as not members of congress. What do you think the best way is to deal with some of the problems theyre describing . Just do your job. You know what i found, i found an exact opposite reaction that i believe is a cultural shift that when i was walking with my husband in the capitol, somebody came up to me recognizing i was likely the congress person. So actually were in the time of great cultural shift, great diversity, lots more women serving. If you dont mind, idad love t talk about the substantive work we are doing here at the capitol. We have a lot of hot spots in the world. We have a lot of hot spots in this administration. I hope will you see in addition to the important oversight in judiciary, we are also doing substantive work. Notice we passed gun legislation, its up to the senate to do something about that we hassed hr 1 which has to do with Good Governance and voting. We have instituted projections for the aca. Thats the kind of work we are doing here in congress. We are not the party or the congress of chaos. We are, the congress of getting substantive work done while we do our constitutional oversight. Congresswoman Madeleine Dean, thank you. Thank you, breana. President trump setting the agenda for the 2020 elections in an address to the republican congressional committee, the president , the leader of the Republican Party offered up his priorities, advice and warnings to republican lawmakers and candidates heading into the election cycle. Heres just some of those topics that he touched on. The Republican Party will be the champion of preexisting conditions. Were going into the war with some socialists and we have to be a little bit careful, because i dont like the way the votes are being tallied. If ive called on congress to pass legislation banning the lateterm abortion of children, who can feel the pain in their mothers womb f. They treat our veterans badly, we have now accountability. We say get the out of here, youre fired. We fire them. All right. Cnns political director, one interesting part of this as well, david, was that the president lamented someone would likely leak his comments to the media. Considering it was odd, there were full comments there, its like me lamenting these comments of ours might be leaked to the media. Right, with cameras in front of you. I dont think anyone knows when donald trump is on camera. Hes a performer without a doubt nothing else we have learned about his presidency. He loves the performance element of it. So those comments struck me as odd. He forgot for a moment or another way to need tell media. I will say, i a him so glad you played that bit about the voter fraud socalled and the concern about tallying the vote. This to me of all the untruths that we have uncovered that President Trump tells and all the controversies, this is so unfoundational to call into question the essence of our electoral system, to raise questions the way votes are tallied is to suggest you at your whim will decide to think any election is invalid if its not to your liking. That is so concerning. It breaks right at the core of our dreams i find that one of the most egregious things he does. Even though he dismisses the impact of russia meddling. Right. He does not acknowledge and sides with president putin on. The president continued, its factually challenged. Its a numbers chalgdz sort of diatribe against puerto rico a in the wake of hurricane maria. He repeated the u. S. Has given them 90 billion in disaster aid. That itself damage estimate. That shots important to note. Puerto rico has been given about 11 billion at this point in time. There is almost 30 become of hud grants that have not been given. The vast majority have not been given. This is from his hud department, his housing and urban development department. Are there going to be any 2020 political ram this is a u. S. Territory, but there are lot of Puerto Ricans in the u. S. , are there going to be any ramifications . And even more so after the hurricanes . Right. When Puerto Ricans come to florida. We can ask are there political ram identifications . He said x on any topic. That 91 to 11 is a big discrepancy, we seen time and time again, perhaps fought. There could be some candidates if florida, like the Republican Party, rick scott, run away from the president on this issue in the past last year in the election. But to think that donald trump is going to be hurt by his outlandish comments or untruths politically would sort of defy what what we saw happen in 2016. Its part of why independent versus fled from them. Why getting reelected may be tougher for him than his initial election i dont think you can say definitively this will hurt until florida. As you look at 2020 democrats, there is so much to watch, right . So much to look at. Who is breaking out of the crowd . Well, we are finally getting actual metrix with fundraising numbers, we put together a chart of the four candidates that told us what we file with the sec. Bernie sanders 18. 2 million, that is a big hall. She likely to be the big pace setner this race, Kamela Harris at 12 million. Not too far behind there. 7 million for pete buttigieg. And 1. 7 million for andrew yang. It shows us there is a lot of democratic engagement. The money will be diffused. I will show you how substantial the lead Bernie Sanders has. He is leading in the polls, except for joe biden. Bernie sanders is showing what a front runner he is in this race, his second time around. I think you would be missing something if you didnt take Bernie Sanders candidacy for the nomination quite seriously. Because we will probably be covering it for a long time when he has that money to stay in the race. Stunning new developments in the 737 max 8 jet in ethiopia last month. Frightening new details of the final moments of ane ethiopian flight are emerging. It says the pilots initially followed emergency procedures that had been outlined by boeing, the airplane manufacturer. Cnn has not been able confirm this report, despite the pilots actions, they were unable to gain control of the boeing 737 max 8. The aircraft then nosedived into the ground on march 10th killing all 157 people on board. This comes as a new Senate Committee is investigating whether faa inspectors were properly trained to certify the aircraft. We have cnn correspondent tom foreman here with us. Tom, this could potentially undercut boeing and the faa and its claims following emergency procedures would have fixed the problem. Yeah, because this cuts right to the crux of the matter. Remember in the indonesian crash last fall and more recently this crash in africa, all they have been focused on the system calls mcas. Mcas is software on board the plane. Heres what we are talking about. Ill bring in a modem. Because of the position of the max 8s and max 9s, they have a tendency to nose up in the air. The mcas is Automatic Software thats supposed to kick in and bring them back to level. But if they get a false reading from the instrumentation in the front, it could push them into a dive. That is the fear here. So the procedure for the pilots, they are to go through and shut down mcas and bring the plane back to level and fly on. So if these reports are true, what its saying is that when the pilots did that, the plane continued. They would pull it back up and mcas would push it back down and back and forth they went up until crash time. That is a very big clang with boeing and the faa saying, well, maybe the pilots didnt follow the right procedures. And there is also this new reporting from reuters about just how many times this antistall software may have reengaged after the initial turnoff. Its however important to note, its unclear whether the crew redeployed the system or if this kicked in automatically. Why does that matter . I it matters because its a continuation of the earlier thought. If you are saying that faa and boeing, the safety of these planes can, in fact, be controlled from the cockpit, if some bug, something wrong is making an automatic system, a robot on board take over control no matter what they do in the cockpit, then you have a completely different equation. We dont have answer to any of this. We are all desperately awaiting the report from the ethiopians to find out which parts my be true, which may be refuted. All of this keeps the future of the plane very much in limbo. Is there a technical problem, a pilot problem, a combination of the two and when and how is this going to be solved to the satisfaction of the airlines, the pilots, and the flying public and all those families who lost loved ones in these crashes . Yeah, tom foreman, thank you so much for outlining all of that for us, i want to bring in former ntsb director peter goles with us. What did you think of this report . There were two things that stood out. One was the ethiopian pilots were well trained. They are noted for that. They take their training seriously. They take their maintenance seriously. Secondly, its a setback for the recertification of this plane. There is a question of, it was at a lower altitude than the lion air, why did it kick in so early . If it kicked in multiple times, there was simply not enough room for these pilotin pilots to recover and this is a problem. Reuters report the system may have reengaged up to four times before the crash. There are still some Unanswered Questions about that but how does a pilot deal with Something Like that . Well, how do you deal after you followed the procedure to turn it off . Thats the question. They had gone through the procedures, according to ethiopian release or the leak that these guys had shut the system down and had followed procedures and it had not solved the problem. There may be a speed issue involved. But this is really quite challenging. Boeing is having another problem right now of which i am sure you are familiar. This other boeing plane, the other model, the kc46. These are used by the air force. So they at this point are actually refusing delivery of this plane. The reason is because quote foreign object debris in closed compartments. Lets listen to what the secretary of the air force Heather Wilson had to say about this. We actually stopped again the acceptance of the kc46s because of foreign object debris we found in some closed compartments. We got corrective action in place, including 100 look at some of those closed compartments to make sure that the production line is is being run the way it needs to be run. Foreign object debris in closed compartments, explain to us, what is the debris we are talking about, where could this be found . It could be anything from metal filings. Tools in there to tools, to other paper debris. In any case, it indicates a Quality Control issue. Be every that compartment is shut, it needs to be checked. It needs to be clean. It needs to be in a1 shape. If boeing didnt doing that on the line, its another black eye. That seems like basic stuff peter goelz, sweeping out the compartment . Fundamental. Thank you so much. Get published now, call for your free publisher kit today security questions are now being raised at maralago, the president s resort in palm beach, florida after a woman from china lied her way onto the property. Our Kaylee Hartung is nearby in west palm beach. With me here in studio is pat ocarol, the executive director of the federal Law Enforcement association. Hes a former secret service agent. Kaylee, you first take us through this case. What do we know about this woman, what do we know about how she managed to get past security . Reporter breana, this wasnt a fence jumper of some sort that tried to sneak her way onto the property. This was won that very willfully proceeded through security protocol in place by secret service and lied through the process so this woman first approached maralago in a parking lot and was greeted by secret service as every guest s. She went through a physical screening process there. Her person, her bags were checked. Then secret service explains, it is the determination of the maralago staff as to who was invited and welcome onto the property. They say there was a bit of a language barrier and the staff member who greeted her when she asked to go to the pool determined that she had the last name as a member of the club. So she was granted access, she was then shuttled to the club. At the club, she had to go through another physical screening processes by the secret service so secret service tells me they knew exactly what this woman was carrying with her. Those four cell phones, the laptop, the hard drive and the thumb drive. They tell me they kept a watchful eye on her and had an ear on her through every step she took on this property. But as she appeared before the home or Club Reception area, just like any of us would if we were enter a hole or club, thats when her story started to fall apart. At this point she says shes there to attend a United Nations event between the United States and china that evening. That event was not on the schedule. The receptionist knew it was not an event that would be taking place that evening. So secret service immediately stepped in and began questioning her. Through the course of that interview process, remember that language barrier, i mentioned earlier, it was no longer there, secret service saying she clearly had an understanding of the laurng language as she said a friend told her to fly in from shanghai to speak to a member of President Trumps family about u. S. And China Economic relations, its unclear what this womans true motives were, what she hoped to accomplish while on the property of maralago, as this story kept changing, it became very clear she intended to steve. Thank you for all those details. Pat, i want to get your expertise on this you look at this i know and you see where the system failed but also where the system worked. Tell us about that. Thats correct, the first one is this isnt the white house. Its a temporary residence, as a result of that, there will be a lot more general public coming and going and also a relationship made with the staff thats at the place. Probably the first one i noticed very good was that she was searched. There was no weapons on her. She was already cleared before she came in, not having a weapon. The next level of it is as you go through the circles, this is, they then take her to one more staffs contact, that takes a look, looks to see if she is a resident as they thought or a guest of a resident. That starts becoming suspicious as they talk more to her. And as they talk some more, they realize that this is, you know, there are some issues here. So they immediately notify secret service. Secret service steps in, starts to talk to her. They start noticing all these discrepancies that are happening. I think also a another major success sked instead of saying, okay, theyre not supposed to be here, kicking the person out. They do the secondary int interviews and do the additional searches. Should her name ever allow her to get through, despite the fact she had a similar same name as a member . Well, i think thats one of the lessons, secret service goes to school on any type of an incident like this. If you thought about it being a major hotel and someone said they were smith and a guest. For the a first screening on it, it would work. Won they show a key . Good point or a swimsuit in this case there wasnt either. Oh, very good point, pat oconnell, thank you so much for your insight on this. President trump is claiming mexico is starting to apprehend thousands of people before they get close to the boarder . Just in, some new fundraising numbers for beto orourke. These are First Quarter fundraising numbers for the candidate. Youll remember that senator Bernie Sanders is leading the field. He has just over 18 million in campaign donations. And so this would put beto orourke at third place behind kamala harris. Lets go to leyla santiago in new york. Tell us about these numbers and just how we should be viewing these in terms of what it means for his staying power and voters interest in him. That is the key question in terms of staying power. He is now reporting 9. 4 million raised over a twoweek period, 6. 1 in the first 24 hours. But if you talk to his campaign, they want to stress the averag per day. That is where they say he leads the pack. But can he sustain that . Because you have a Bernie Sanders senator Bernie Sanders really coming out with the high totals over a sixweek period, 18 million. That is where he wants to focus. And it is true, orourke came into the campaign a little bit later than the rest and that is why they are wanting to focus on the average per day. But when you look at the two weeks, the fact that he was able to raise over a Million Dollars on that eve or the last two days before the quarter finished out in terms of reporting deadline, they were able to meet their goals of a Million Dollars there and that, again, leads to the 9. 4 million. But if were talking about average per day, which is where that campaign wants to focus, then right back to your question, brianna, can he sustain that average per day. Well see in the second quarter. That is definitely you can compare all of the candidates then, leyla santiago, thank you so much. So will he or wont he close the border . President trump has given mixed answers about this over the last 24 hours. Earlier he tweeted Congress Must get together and immediately eliminate the loopholes at the border, if no action, border or large sections of border will close. This is a national emergency. But then in a speech last night he seemed to be slowly backing away from that option. I wanted to close it but mexico say, no, no, no, first time in decades, we will not let anybody get through. And theyve apprehended over a thousand people today at the southern border, their southern border and bringing them back into the country. I said, why the hell didnt somebody do that in the first place. Lets get a fact check from rosa flores our correspondent in texas. Is mexico doing what he said they have been doing . Reporter mexico has been doing that for years and sometimes at rates higher than the United States. Lets just look at recent history since the 2014 unaccompanied minor surge, mexico they incorporated something called [ speaking Foreign Language ] in essence their southern board plan, and they added road blocks and a check and increase in deportation and according to the most recent report from Rice University baker institute, they report that more than 500,000 500,000 Central Americans have been deported by mexico back to central america. And during some of those years at rates higher than the United States. So, mexico did not wake up yesterday and hear about the threat or the closure of the border and decide to all of a sudden have a deportation policy. Theyve been doing it for years, bree sanaa, that is a very good point. Thank you for explaining that for us, rosa flores in mcallen, texas. 15 people caught up in the College Cheating scandal have Court Appearances in boston any moment.
