Democratic and republicans, turning down an invitation from the white house to visit pittsburgh with the prets. Senate majority leader mitch mcconnell, House Speaker paul ryan, chuck schumer, nancy pelosi, they all declined those invitations. Last night, the mayor of pittsburgh said he tried to tell the white house that the citys priority right now are the families, the funerals. The first is today, not a visit from the president. Our focus is the city. Well be on the families and the outreach that theyll need this week and the support that theyll need to get through it. Once we get past that, then i think theres the opportunity for president ial visits. So all of this is happening one week before you voters head to the polls for the midterms. And the president s aides, some of them tell the Washington Post in their new reporting today, theyre struggling to balance their blistering Campaign Strategy with these calls for national unity. What will the president say today . How will he walk that line . Lets start with the funerals. Jean casarez joins us on the ground in pittsburgh. This is all politics aside, honoring the 11 lives lost. I believe the first funerals begin in about an hour. Youre right, poppy. So, so true. This is such a serious day. Its so solemn here. And were here at the tree of life synagogue. I want to show you the memorial that is growing and growing. Look at all the people that have just come here. They have just come here to look and to watch and to pay honor to the victims whose names are on the various star of davids at that insignia. The first funeral does start in about an hour. Dr. Jerry rabinowitz will be interred at 11 00 this morning. A devoted Family Doctor, so many say that he just lit up a room when he would enter. Always wearing a bowtie. Giving his cell phone numbers to people, always that Family Doctor that anyone could call on. And then at noon today, the funeral of brothers cecil and david rosenthal. The funerals are not being held at all at the synagogue behind me because, in fact, the synagogue is a crime scene. And i saw the fbi arrive this morning. And they are continuing to process this crime scene. But as the investigation continues, as the defendant remains in federal custody, today is the day, the solemn day that the funerals begin in this community that continues to grieve. Poppy. Jean casarez, thank you for being there. With several local leaders and state leaders declining to join President Trump in pittsburgh today, what kind of reception will he get when he arrives there in a few hours . Kaitlan collins is in pittsburgh now in advance of the president s arrival. Quite a list here, and not just democrats. Republican leaders on the hill as well. Declining this invitation from the white house. Remarkable. Is there a reaction from the white house to this . So far, no reaction from the white house yet. We have reached out to them about comment about how they invited these leaders, not just local leaders but also the National Figures as well that you cited to come with President Trump on this visit today, and they havent responded, but we do know that the Vice President , mike pence, is going to be doing an interview in the next half hour or so, and he may address this then. Even though he is not one of the officials that is expected to come with President Trump here to pittsburgh today. We know that Jared Kushner and ivanka trump are going to join the president as well as the first lady, melania trump. But last night, we were talking to officials about what this trip is going to look like. They said it was going to be an understated visit. We now know that the pittsburgh Mayors Office, which they said the president should not come, he should delay his visit until these funerals are over and let the Community Mourn in the period between now and then, not just because of questions about the president s rhetoric but about logistical issues as well, about whether or not there are enough officers to not only handle the president s visit but also to be able to guard the funerals as well. Those are the questions the white house is facing. And now were seeing that the pittsburgh Mayors Office is saying they did not know that the president was going to be coming here officially until Sarah Sanders announced it at that press briefing yesterday that they were going to come. They knew they answered it, they knew they talked about it. They advised them to stay away for at least a week or so until everything calmed down here, but of course, the president is going to come here anyway. Now, it does seem that hes facing some criticism from local leaders on that, but jim and poppy, the white houses view on all of this from what several officials i have spoken with have said, they feel if they waited too long, they would be criticized for not coming sooner, and tomorrow, President Trump is kicking off his 11 Campaign Rally week ahead of the midterms next tuesday. So he would have to reschedule a rally if he did delay this trip until later in the week. Were waiting to find out more details on what the president s visit is even going to look like today. Are you saying the white house said to you that one reason theyre coming today is they did not want to reschedule Campaign Rallies later in the week . They did not say that explicitly. We should make that clear. The president said he wanted to come, he wanted to be with the victims, he wanted to meet with the first responders, but they pointed to the fact that starting tomorrow, the president will be doing multiple rallies a day. I believe hes starting in florida tomorrow, going to go to indiana, missouri, several other states. Something the president wanted to put the focus back on this week after he thought the pipe bomb controversy last week detracted from the republican momentum ahead of the midterms and now they have this going on today. Right, which he said himself explicitly in a tweet last week about the republican momentum getting lost in all this. Thank you very much. Lets bring in former pennsylvania congressman and cnn commentator, charlie dent. Former republican senator, rick santorum. Good morning to both of you. Congressman dent, let me pose this to you first. You have the president going to pittsburgh today. The mayor of pittsburgh says dont come yet, wait. The rabbi of the synagogue where this massacre took place says, look, hes my president , americas president. Hes welcome any time, and democratic congressman ted lieu, often a harsh critic of the president told me, look, the president can go wherever he wants, but i hope he brings a message of unity. Should the president be going right now . Well, i do think the president should go to pittsburgh. Im not clear that this is the best time because im not sure what kind of a venue hes speaking at today. But i do think its appropriate that he go. But i also think its difficult for the president in times like this, in his role as consoler in chief, and also, jake tapper used some terms yesterday that the president said. I bring outrage. He makes those kinds of comments. I dont know how he reconciles this, but he should go to pittsburgh. I hope the venue is appropriate, though. I suppose the question then, and senator santorum, we should acknowledge that this is your state. Theres a personal im sure you feel particularly personal sorrow over what happened there on saturday. But let me ask you this. And its quite unusual because these are also Republican Leaders on the hill who are declining the white house invitation to join the president today. If the message to the white house is, listen, youre welcome to come, just not today. Its the first funeral. Were concerned about the political environment. Should the president hear that and let the community make that decision . Thanks, jim. It is personal to me. I grew up outside of pittsburgh and lived in the pittsburgh area most of my life. And while i dont know personally any of the people who died, i met a couple of the brothers i met, they were sort of icons in the community and i had an opportunity to meet them in the past. But look, this is a horrific and horrible time. And i think its a moment for the president , you know, i think he said some really terrific words. And i think going there and visiting the officers, visiting the people who have been shot, and who are still in the hospital, providing that kind of support, and having frankly jared and ivanka there also, his jewish daughter and soninlaw, i think is a very important statement for the president. Look, i know the mayor. The mayor and i dont get along. The mayor is very lets say, a unique individual. And so im not surprised that he would say what he said. But i think most of the people in pittsburgh and in that community are going to if the president does, as charlie says, does appropriately, i think its a good thing for him to do. To be clear, not just the democratic mayor there. It is the House Majority leader paul ryan, the Senate Majority leader mitch mcconnell. Theyre not saying he shouldnt go. But then why dont they want to stand on the podium with him . Because its a week before the election. And you know, these are folks who have lots of things on their schedule. Again, its not its not their home community. Its not their state. I mean, look. To suggest that somehow thats a signal, they get invited to a lot of things they dont go to. And i dont see 11 people were shot and killed. I understand that. Not your typical invitation. I understand that, but again, its obviously controversy around the president right now, and im not too sure they want to be associated with him at this point. Congressman dent, to you. Words matter, right . They matter a lot. I think that has been, pl expliy clear in the last week and a half. Whether it be in kentucky or here in new york or what happened in pittsburgh. If you were the president , what would you say today . What words would you use . As president , i would say that we need to bring this country together. We have to talk about what unites us as americans. He, of course, must reach out to the familieilies and express th horror and the grief that he feels and the country feels in the aftermath of this horrific shooting. But he really needs to try to help turn the temperature down. This is something that just does not come naturally to this president. As i said earlier, he engages in incendiary and inflammatory comments all the time. And so he has a difficult time reconciling but we know he can do it. Right . Hes on the teleprompter, when hes scripted, i think hell do a good job when hes scripted. But he would say the things that most people would want to say. I mean, youre speaking almost as if youre a minister, a member of the clergy in a case like this. He has to speak to the better nature of our the better nature of our angels and he has to do that. So i hope he can do it. But often when he does this unscripted, he has challenges. When hes better focused and i think hes better prepared by his staff, then i think hes more capable. The president repeated last night on fox this characterization of the caravan as an invasion of our country. The president s words there. Of course, the shooter called them invaders, too. This has become something of a trope on rightwing websites, et cetera. Invaders, invasion. Things about disease that theyre bringing in. Unfounded claims about terrorists being in that group there. And by doing this, senator, im not blaming the president for this shooting. Im just asking you the question, does that confluence, that overlap of the language there, does that help . Does that make the danger of hate crimes does it lessen the danger of hate crimes for the president to be sharing that kind of characterization . See i think, jim, i think where youre going is a really dangerous place to go because whats going on here is, you know, is a conflation between what happened in pittsburgh and sort of a sense that, you know, theres grievances out there and theres people. Look, what were talking about in pittsburgh is antisemitism in its purest, rawest, most hateful form. And its a different type this is a trope that has been around for millennia, and is something to me that is unique and to say that its just another, we can tie it into a caravan or tie it into other things, i think is wrong. I think its dangerous. Wait, wait. Senator, be fair. I didnt ask you i didnt make an equivalency between this. As i said, i did not blame the president for this attack. I asked you the simpm question, is the president is using similar descriptions about the caravan as others who are propagating in hate crime, is that helpful . Its a simple question. Is that helpful to the environment . First, i think its irrelevant to the environment because this man hated jews. Whether he talked about the caravan or not is irrelevant. This man hated jews. Lets lay out the facts for our viewers because you just said that jim is making a dangerous assertion. And hes not. Let me read you what the shooter posted on gab. Com six days before this shooting. Quote, i have noticed a change in people saying illegals. They now say invaders. I like this. Okay. And we know that he believed and wrote about the fact that he thought the jewish people were coming, invading this country with the caravan. So simply were asking if the president repeating on twitter yesterday morning or last night in the fox interview the word invaders when he watches cable news he knew all day yesterday the media was talking about the use of that word in particular. Jim is asking is that helpful right now to the country . Again, i think in my mind its you have a sick man who is an antisemite and that the focus of what he did. The fact that he has other kind of conspiracy theories or other types of things tied to it is not something the president should concern himself with when tries to describe a political situation. To me, they are two completely different things. I think as someone who has worked long and hard in fighting antisemitism and worked closely with the Jewish Community and the state of israel and making sure that we do fight specifically this scourge, i think trying to conflate it is not a good thing. Again, im not trying to conflate it, but charlie dent, your thoughts. Do you think its helpful . Look, the president today is trying to console the nation about what happened in pittsburgh. Earlier today, i saw hes talking about birth right citizenship. I think hes done that to inflame the issue. It would require a constitutional amendment. We know that, but on one hand, he wants to console the nation, and on the other hand, hes on the issue of the migrants, the caravan. Hes trying to incite things. This is the ultimate conundrum were faced with. The president needs to decide what type of president he wants to be. Does he want to be a unifier or a divider inciting this type of rhetoric. This is what were dealing with. Congressman dent, senator santorum, thank you both for being here. Very important conversation. Well have you back soon. Still to come for us, President Trump ramping up his attacks one week from midterm day. Calling democrats candidate for governor in florida a thief without any proof. Plus, investigators are now trying to piece together what brought down a brandnew boeing jet. So, next time dont halfwash it. Downy and its done. Welcome back. Were moments away from former Vice President joe biden taking the stage at one of many Upcoming Campaign stops. Not for himself. This is not about 2020 yet. This is about the midterms. Right now, hes in wisconsin. Hell be making his way to iowa later today. Biden is crisscrossing the country, one week to go until the midterms. Arlette is in madison, wisconsin. Biden not slowing down. This is the homestretch. What will we hear . Well, poppy, in the next three days, hes going to have eight events in six different states. His team is eyeing about two cities a day for over the weekend, as he heads into that final stretch. But hes starting his morning here in madison, wisconsin. One of those states that got away from democrats back in 2016. When president obama had previously won the state and then President Trump picked it up in the last election. And former Vice President joe biden will be here campaigning with senator tammy baldwin, as well as the democratic candidate for governor, tony evers here in madison, and also in milwaukee later this afternoon. But then all eyes are going to turn to iowa as the former Vice President makes his first visit to the state since he left the white house and as he himself is considering a 2020 bid. Aides had previously said he was going to steer clear of states like iowa and New Hampshire to try to avoid drawing attention away from the races there to his potential president ial ambitions. But this trip is going to do just that. The former Vice President will be in the cedar rapids area campaigning for fred hubble as well as the democrat running in the first congressional district, abbey stinkenour. Shes a volunteer for bidens campaign in 2008 when he was running for president. This is going to be a very, very quick trip. Aides i spoke to said he has no other stopsering no other events in cedar rapids besides the rally. Theyre trying to avoid speculation about 2020 although thats pretty unavoidable. They cannot avoid it, as much as they wish. Thank you. Great reporting. Welcome to cnn. Lets get to cnn political director David Chalian. A lot of key races to talk about. Certainly the florida one. And President Trump calling georgias democratic governor candidate, current tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum a stone cold thief. Have a listen to those words. They bear repeating, last night. Ron desantis, who is a harvard yale guy. Hes had a really terrific you know, a very good person. Hes going to be a very good to a great governor. This other guy is a stone cold in my opinion, hes a thief. How can you have a guy like this . And you just look at his record. Also, look at the job hes done as the mayor of tallahassee. Hes a total disaster. We should be clear, tallahassees City Government under federal investigation. Gillum has not been charged with anything. Hes repeatedly said the fbi told him hes not a focus of the investigation. That aside, David Chalian, well often talk about whether the president s words like this when he leans forward, you might say, whether thats just trump being trump. Maybe trump going further than he meant to. Or its part of politics here that he wants to color him in a certain way. I mean, you have been in politics a long time. What do you hear here . Whats the intention . First of all, as far as i know, thief is not something you can have an opinion on. He said in my opinion, hes a thief. Either someone is a thief or they arent. Right. Its not really something you can have an opinion on. And there are no facts here that suggest that we know of, as you noted, hes not been charged with anything, so we have no fact pattern to say that he is a thief. So the president may have his own opinions but to me, hes just expressing a caricature that he wants to draw to create a culture of fear around the person who is seeking to become floridas first africanamerican governor. This isnt very difficult. The president is not some complex person that its difficult to understand what hes doing. He reveals himself to us constantly, and he is here clearly trying an approach to make a Fear Campaign around the person that is seeking to become the first black governor of the state. So david, im interested in how you think that will translate in georgia. Because in georgia, you have the potential for the first africanamerican female governor in the country. If Stacey Abrams wins in georgia. The president is going to georgia, and he will stump for her opponent, brian kemp, former president obama will go to do the same for Stacey Abrams. What will the president s tactic being there, do you think, and whose star power will help more here . Thats a great question because you wouldnt see both the president and former president , the two biggest stars for each of their parties go there unless those campaigns and candidates thought it would do them more good than harm. And theyre probably right about that. Both president obama and President Trump probably can do good for their candidates in that state. As you know, georgias politics, it is clearly still a red state, but one that democrats have been targeting in cycle after cycle to see if they can alter the makeup of the electoratelectora up Democratic Base voters such as africanamericans. Stacey abrams has been committed to that kind of strategy. Obama goes in to help her out. Trump goes in to help kemp keep the natural dna of the state what it has been. David chalian, thank you as always. One week to go. Greeing calls for unity as the nation faces a wave of violent hate crimes. But how do we turn those calls into action . What will really make a difference . Were going to be talking about that in the next block with someone who has some advice. Sometimes a day at the ballpark is more than just a day at the ballpark. This morning, a source close to the white house tells cnn top advisers inside and outside the administration are telling President Trump to go to war with the press ahead of the midterms. This despite growing calls for unity as the nation faces a rash of violent hate crimes. Joining me now is the former democratic mayor of new orleans, mitch landrieu. Mayor, thanks for taking the time this morning. Good morning. Good to be with you. So i want to start with a general question. You have said, and im quoting you here, we need to spend more time seeking and finding common ground. This means talking and listening to people who may not look like, speak like, pray like, or love like we do. Thats a valuable comment. Theyre valuable words. I wonder, though, in this politically charged environment, how do you make a difference as a politician or simply as an american beyond saying words like that . Well, first of all, you do have to speak the right words because words matter. The president today could really do Something Wonderful by the nation when in a time of trouble we look to the president to heal a grieving nation. And he can go to pittsburgh today and do something really wonderful for the country by speaking really to whats aching americans today. President obama, of course, had to do this a number of times. I was actually in the audience in dallas in july of 2016 when you were commemorating the lives of five officers lost. Its a hard thing to do, but the nation yearns for that. Words really do matter, especially when theyre coming from elected leaders and most specifically from the president of the United States. The second thing you can do is act on it. If you continue to demonize individuals based on race, creed, color, sexual orientation, youre going to get the fruits of the tree, which are hateful words, hateful actions and people afraid of each other. Its really important that we as a nation dont respond the way that he wants us to in the event he continues to want to divide us because of the midterms. Thats not a good thing to do. We can all watch what we say, but most importantly, we should treat other human beings as equally valuable. Its not a hard idea. Buteftly, its a little more difficult to do than we have practiced so far. The golden rule. The first rule our parents taught us. A danger or a risk, rather, for politicians in this environment is that to attack, to portray the other side as evil or the enemy. That can be an easy thing to do, even win you some political points. You know better than anybody that you can pay a political price for swimming against the tide. When you, for instance, took down confederate statues in new orleans, you acknowledged that you lost some support. Its not a sacrifice that most politicians are willing to make. Well, first of all, hate is easy. I mean, most of us that are in the business of politics know that we can stir people. And when people are afraid, when theyre hungry, when theyre cold, you can always make them afraid that somebody who doesnt look like them is going to come take their stuff. It does take leadership, not just from political leaders but faithbased leaders, business leaders, all to say were going to judge people based on their behavior. Were not going to judge them based on their race, creed, sexual orientation, their nation of origin. That takes you to a completely different area. In politics, we have different ideas about what works. We can actually be very hard on the problem and soft on the people. But if the president says, for example, that all muslims are terrorists or all mexicans are rapists or all africanamericans are criminals like he accused the mayor of tallahassee of being just a minute ago, thats out of bounds. I think that americans, the question is not what President Trump is going to do. I think David Chalian is right. Hes really kind of shown what hes going to say and do. The question is why are we so susceptible to responding . We have to make a choice. You have to choose common ground. You have to look for it. If you look for it, you can find it. You can also find division. It just depends what road you want to go down. I think one is a lot better than the other. The president , consistent with this larger message of, as you said there, immigrants as rapists, muslims as terrorists, this is exactly the characterization that hes giving to this caravan of migrants. Even without basis, saying there are, quote unquote, middle eastern easternerners in there. Youre from a southern state, new orleans, not quite on the border, but you have immigration issues of your own. In your view, is the caravan a National Security risk . Well, theyre so far away. Listen, let me go back to the issue of conflation you were speaking about with senator santorum a minute ago. Antisemitism, hating people because theyre black, hating people because theyre immigrants are fruit of the same poisonous tree of hating people because of their race, creed, color, national origin. In a democracy, in the United States of america, our calling card, epluribusunem, out of many we are one, says the United States is an idea based on the simple premise we come to the table of democracy as equals. We havent always hit that aspiration, but what we havent said and the Founding Fathers havent laid down for us is we get to treat each other differently because of how we work. When you continue to dehumanize people by talking about them that way, its easy to get people to hate them and get people to think theyre coming. Havent you noticed everything the president does, whether its trade or immigration, its a quote unquote National Security threat. In other words, i have to make you feel afraid of that other human being so you can help me divide and conquer. Were seeing this after hurricane katrina, people all over the world came to help us. They came and it made a difference when people reached up in our darkest hours, had angels among us, lifted us up. Lifting people up is a lot better than pushing them down. You may win in the short term by hating, but at the end of the day, its going to lose in the long term, as it should. Its great you bring up the response to the various storms. I look to that when people say where do you see evidence of people treating each other nicely, as americans, regardless of race, creed, et cetera. And i know you have experienced it there, and we have seen it in other parts of the country. Ill say this to you. I know that washington, d. C. Is broken. It cant function, it cant get anything done, but all across america, every day, people are living together and working together. And theyre doing fine. As a matter of fact, you see it like most poignantly after every one of the storms. Most recently, to our brothers and sisters of florida, where in our darkest hours, people lift each other up. Thats what were doing in the country. Some of whats happening on the federal level, on some of the when some of the campaigns, theres a hat trick, were unified as a country. We can find a way to work together. We have done it before. The question is why are we letting ourselves be torn apart . Thats the more important question. And the way you fix that in a democracy is you go vote. If you dont like the leadership, you change it. Thats the way it works. Im hoping thats going to happen next week. Mitch landrieu, thank you for taking the time. Thank you for having me. Fascinating. What does history show us about what happens when we let ourselves be torn apart . Coming up for us, well update you on the tragic plane crash in indonesia. Right now, the country is ordering all boeing 737s to be inspected after a brandnew plane plummeted into the ocean. Investigators have yet to find the fuselage of the jet or the black box. This is lyon air flight 610. Big question, what could have caused the new plane to plunge into the ocean. Joining us now is cnn safety analyst and former faa safety inspector david soucie. Just first, big picture here. A new version of the 737. I believe still the most popular plane for commercial flights around the world. I believe a new engine. Are there any concerns about the design prior to this accident . Not prior to this accident. The only thing that i would do right now, like theyre doing right now, is taking the 737s out of service, and theyre also looking at the flight regimes. In other words, the flight patterns. In this aircraft, as you know, theres curious things that happened in the aircraft the night before and this night as far as stability of the air speed and the altitude. David, one of the key questions this morning is, you know, we know that the pilots made this request to turn around. They also didnt indicate there was any emergency, right . Does that strike you . It really strikes me. Especially because before that, before they made that call, the aircraft had dropped about 800 feet in altitude before that in an uncontrolled descent and then back up again. And air speed was all over the place as well. Again, were in a situation, i think back to previous crashes over water. We have discussed it. They havent found the black box yet. You always have this difficult dance, can you hear the ping, et cetera. Is that concerning to you that its taking this time . Yeah, jim. Thats something, you know, we have talked about that over the years. Even malaysia airlines, had we had that ping underwater locater beacon working, it would have helped us to locate the aircraft. It was not, nor was it on air france. This is something that has gone on forever. Its been my mantra and everybody in the industry knows this needs to be fixed. Its a problem. Still not yet. David soucie, thanks very much. Well keep on top of this, whatever we learn. The president is sending thousands of u. S. Troops to the border because of migrants. Hundreds of miles away still from the u. S. Border. A little perspective. That buildup will then pass up the number of troops currently deployed in iraq. Were going to dig into the numbers next. Now he says hell have courage, for a change, but gavins had his chance for eight years, and he never lifted a finger. Its time for someone new. John cox, governor. Welcome back. The president has now taken the extraordinary step of ordering more than 5,000 u. S. Troops to the u. S. mexico border with a total of 5200 troops soon to be deployed there, we noticed something. There are now almost an equal number of active u. S. Military on americas border with mexico as there are deployed to iraq, where the terror group isis remains a threat. With an additional 2,092 members of the National Guard also on the border today, there will actually be more forced on the border than in iraq. We should note this, from an Inspector General report this past april, the dod estimates that 15,000 to 17,000 isis fighters remain in iraq, though estimates have varied some over time. That would, of course, mean theyre outnumbered three to one there. The president and his allies have portrayed the caravan as full of gang members, insinuates as well there were terrorists among them. The president used a term unknown middle easterners in a tweet. He later admitted there was no proof to back up that assertion. The caravan today remains about 900 miles away from the u. S. Border. And as theyre proceeding on foot, they will not reach the border for weeks, until well after the election. The troops, however, they will be on the border before election day. Important fact. You cant make them up. You cant make up your own. Thank you for that. Michael bloomberg weighing in on the pittsburgh synagogue shooting. Also a lot of talk about him around a potential 2020 bid. He had an exclusive interview with our colleague christine alesy. Bloomberg is the former mayor of new york city. He said the attack is a consequence of President Trumps words. Listen to this. When he goes around getting people to scream and hate, bad things happen. You saw the results here. The president , who should be unifying and instead hes exciting people, inciting people. Christine alesy joins me now. You sat down with bloomberg in minnesota. Hes campaigning for gun reform. What else did he tell you that was striking . What was most striking to me is the fact that he took a much sharper tone than he has in the past. You know, hes definitely criticized trump, but he was strong in his words yesterday, and more importantly than his words, poppy, is that hes actually putting money behind it. Hes spending 100 million to flip the house and the senate. He put an extra 10 million behind the effort just last week. And just today, hes releasing ads to target young women, to get out the vote, urge them to get out the vote because it matters. And those ads are directed by jodie foster, interesting point there. But certainly, a lot of effort on his part to try and at least wrest control of the house and senate from the republicans. What else did he tell you . Theres been so much made of is he going to run in 2020 . Could he win, could he catch momentum in states in the midwrest where you are, in my home state of minnesota . Is there enough name recognition . Would he get the support there he needs . Also, you talked to him about antisemitism in this country. Thats right, poppy. On the first point, he really feels like hes going to take a look at the polls after the midterms, get a sense of the data. At the end of the day, hes really going to go with his gut. Thats what he told me. And on the antisemitism point, he did say hes not going to let the fact that hes jewish hold him back. Hes not going to hide from it. He does acknowledge a rise in antisemitism, but he does not see that as a significant challenge to his potential candidacy.
