Hello again. Thank you so much for being with me this saturday. I am fredricka whitfield. With the impeachment trial of president donald j. Trump set to begin next week, photos last night show more documentation of indicted associate lev parnas meeting with President Trump. The latest new evidence is the third release this week showing parnas in close connection with the president and his family. The president repeatedly denied knowing parnas at all. I dont know this gentleman. Now, its possible i have a picture with him because i have a picture with everybody. I dont know them. I dont know about them, i dont know what they do but i dont know, maybe they were clients of rudy, you would have to ask rudy. I dont know parnas, i guess i had pictures taken which i do with thousands of people, including people today i didnt meet, but just met them. I dont know him at all. Dont know what hes about. Dont know where he comes from, know nothing about him. He is probably trying to make a deal for himself. Meanwhile, other documents released last night show new Text Messages about the apparent surveillance of former ambassador to ukraine marie yovanovitch. The texts Show Contacts between parnas and some of trumps fiercest supporters, including an aide for Ranking Member devon nunes. Senior writer at cnn politics zack wolf is look into all this. Zach, how might the new evidence add or influence things to come this week . Reporter of course we have the impeachment trial of President Trump which really gets under way on tuesday. Before that, House Democrats are supposed to offer up some of the evidence that they have tied to articles of impeachment. Later today it will be interesting to see how or if theyre able to factor new information into that briefing. Certainly theyll want to bring up the information at the impeachment trial. Theres some question whether they will be able to. If you think about it, we have learned so much about what was going on in ukraine in the months since President Trump was impeached. We have the impeachment occurring, and were still learning so many things about the characters that had access to the president , but were also trying to dig up dirt on political rivals. The documents appear to implicate congressman devon nunes and an aide working with him. Parnas was in close contact with an aide. Where might this go now, would the aide have contact without the congressman, devon nunes, knowing . It is kind of hard to believe, it is possible. Interesting for me that nunes was the face of republicans at the impeachment hearings. He is somebody questioning the impeachment witnesses. He was constantly calling this a hoax. Clearly his staffers and he had contact with lev parnas. They were being fed this information about the effort being undertaken on the president s behalf, so they were in perhaps on the thing they were then supposed to be investigating. It is a remarkable turn of events. Indeed it is. Thank you so much. Thanks. In the middle of all this, a few important deadlines on capitol hill. House managers have just under four hours left to file the impeachment brief. Thats expected to layout facts, evidence. The president is facing a deadline, his legal team must respond to secretary of the senate by 6 00 p. M. A lot to discuss. Bring in reuters correspondent jeff mason and law professor of university of North Carolina and legal analyst michael gearheart. Democrats will layout the case in the brief this evening. Weve seen new evidence. How will all of that be intertwined into their brief . My guess is theyll begin with information they had when they voted on impeachment. Thats a lot of information that came from the House Intelligence Committee and house judiciary committee, particularly intelligence committee. Then theyll go into new information which basically reinforces or supports or strengthens the case being made in the house. At the same time, the new information reinforces a sense that it is getting harder and harder to trust whatever the president says. If he says no, he might mean yes. So i think theres growing distrust of whatever he may say, which i think is going to be part of the presentation in this case. The house basically saying you cant trust what the president is saying, you have to trust the evidence weve got. In the brief, michael, is there also continued urging of witnesses or explaining the relevance of some of the requested witnesses . I think there will be. Again, i think it is two different points being made. One is we had enough to impeach, secondly, weve got this other evidence and other information suggesting theres a lot of witnesses wed like to hear from. Keep in mind, the president demanded they dont testify. Thats not good enough reason to keep them from testifying. For example, lots of people have information about this, and the president is keeping them from testifying. Thats a point house managers can make, thats the basis of article 2 against the president. Jeff, among the four, we know publicly the house has listed as potential witnesses, lev parnas is among them, how much might his newest information that hes revealed, his willingness to testify, how seriously might that be considered in your view . Well, i think democrats would certainly consider it, but it goes to the broad question of whether or not witnesses will be allowed. There are competing views on that, competing impulses. The president himself has gone back and forth whether or not he would like to have witnesses. If he did, then you would probably see people like perhaps Vice President joe biden and certainly his son, hunter biden, asked to testify, and the democrats would no doubt want lev parnas and john brennan. I dont think well have answers to that until later into the trial. Thats certainly something hanging over them now. Michael, with new images, with lev parnas, with trump, with family members, with his accompanying interviews, we know that the Supreme Court chief Justice John Roberts will be presiding, but would he in any capacity interject during the trial to underscore the need for witnesses, lack of witnesses . Would that in any way be his role . I think it is highly unlikely that chief Justice Roberts will initiate any discussion about witnesses or engage in any extem pran yus comment or injection. He may be asked to rule on witnesses or may be asked to rule on competency or relevance of witnesses, and he has the power to do that. Keep in mind, anything he rules may be overturned by bare majority of the senate. Whats the extent of what it is to preside, if a motion is made, i think thats what you mean by ruling on a motion. But if there is no motion, you know, being made by either side, is he just observing . How might he interject himself into the process . Well, hes there at the very least to really represent the law and to bring seriousness to the occasion. He will definitely do that. Beyond that, the rules of the senate allow him to compel witnesses, compel testimony, issue subpoenas if necessary. But the rules also provide that on any decision he makes may be appealed by one senator to the entire senate, and then 51 can overrule the chief justice. So chief Justice Roberts knows that. He is i suspect going to try to keep himself from being in position to be overruled, but he will obviously be asked to comment, reinforce requests, for example, if one is made about witnesses, but again, i think hes going to be careful to let in a sense the trial come to him rather than he dominate it or try to control it. Well leave it there for now. Thank you so much. Good to see you both. You too. Still ahead. On this Martin Luther king jr. Holiday weekend, demonstrators across the country are marching in the name of womens rights and equality. Ill talk to dr. Kings daughter, bernice king, about this movement and more next. And outrage over a doctored photo from the 2017 womens march. The National Archives accused of altering history by censoring the poster. When you look at the world, what do you see . Where others see chaos, we see patterns. Connections. Relationships. When you use location technology, you can see where things happen, before they happen. With esri location technology, you can see what others cant. Hi, welcome back. Right now, thousands of empowered women from across the country, many of them wearing pink hats are taking part in inclement weather everywhere for the Fourth Annual womens march. This is live pictures out of new york, it is blustery, cold, windy, and theres snow. The event first began in 2017, the day after President Trumps inauguration. Thats when one Million People turned out for marches nationwide, making it the largest single day of protests in american history. Cnns rebecca buck is in washington. It is cold. May not be as snowy as new york, we have seen the flakes. Whats going on there. People have been marching on pennsylvania avenue and have been circling the white house. Whats going on now . Reporter thats right, fred. We started coming around the south side of the white house, circled around, now you can see the white house behind me. This is the north side. These marchers are going to stop in front of the white house, face the white house, send a strong message to the president. They have planned a dance and song targeted at the president , calling President Trump a racist, a rapist rather, strong terms from the marchers. This is going to be sort of the climax of the march. Then theyll return to where they started at freedom plaza, also pennsylvania avenue. As you mention, the weather here today has been brutal, it has been cold, raining, snowing at times. These marchers have been fired up throughout. You can hear the drums behind me. There have been chants of this is what democracy looks like. There have been chants of trump has got to go. And of course, impeachment is one of the new elements this year looming over the march, and of course, it is also an Election Year, the year these marchers hope to unseat President Trump from office. We have seen signs from multiple Democratic Candidates here today for president , elizabeth warren, andrew yang, bernie sanders, all with supporters representing their campaigns here today, so that is really the biggest goal of this march is having these democrats get fired up for the election, support Democratic Candidates, and hopefully they hope run President Trump out of office. Their goal is that this is the last womens march where theyll be in front of a white house with President Trump as president , fred. Thank you so much. In the crowds the last four years, it has been everything from democrats, republicans, and independents, women taking a stand for various reasons during those gatherings. So this event first began in 2017, right after President Trumps inauguration. Thats when one million, many in pink hats, turned out for marches nationwide. A photo from protests of that day is at the center of growing controversy. The National Archives is acknowledging it made alterations to pictures of a protest that greets visitors at an exhibit on womens suffrage, according to report in the washington post, National Archives blurred signs in the picture that are critical of President Trump and may be deemed inappropriate for some audiences. Moments ago, we spoke with a historian who was stunned by changes made to the photograph. As a historian, i was shocked. We place so much value on the artifact, the historic documents we work with, and the idea that there would be any messing with primary source documents was shocking to me. With me now, bernice king, daughter of civil rights icon dr. Martin luther king jr. , ceo of the king center, thank you so much for being here. Glad to be here. When you see the image, what has become an iconic image of the 2017 gathering of a Million People from coast to coast for the womens march, you see it doctored, it is at the National Archives, whats your reaction to archives doctoring an image, depiction of history . I cant, i am not an archivist, i cant speak to the importance of making sure documents have historical accuracy. I can respect whatever opinion that they give in regard to that. When i look at the image, period, im disturbed by the image itself. What do you mean . God and hate cant go in the same sentence. God is love. So god would never hate anyone who even is a hater, people call them racist, evil, because god is love. Gods desire is that everyone would come to a certain place. So in that picture, one of the posters that was held up said the reality of that moment is someone has an image that says god hates trump. Right. And the image you see on the right of the screen, the censored portion, the name trump was taken out. There were other references, another poster that said gop, it is a trump and gop hands off women, and the name trump was blurred out. So the dispute is over whether it was appropriate, whether it is attempt to erase history or change documentation that shows a moment of history. Your dad, foot soldiers alongside him, dealt with all kinds of other efforts to erase their efforts, change history, distort the truth. Do you see a parallel here . You said my father never faced efforts to erase history . There were people and factions that wanted to erase whether it be progress, moments of history that your dad was involved in that other foot soldiers were involved in. Yeah, no, i get that. I think it is important to reflect history. But i also think it is important that we challenge people in reflecting history another truth. Thats why i said i had to speak to the truth of god hates because god does not hate. Thats all i was speaking to. But yes. Reflect the truth is very important. We should not erase it because if you erase it, we repeat it. So history is so important for people to learn from, to extract from, have dialogue about. What is this weekend like for you, this holiday honoring your dad, dr. Martin luther king jr. , and honoring service, using this holiday as a real impetus for people to volunteer, to do something for their community. What is this weekend like for you . For us for the king center, our theme is kings 2020 vision, the beloved community, fierce urgency of now. In light of the climate were living in, were in a very peculiar moment. All stakes are high in this Election Year for everybody, whether youre democrat, republican, independent. Whether youre someone who doesnt vote. And so its important that we understand the need to change the trajectory of our nation toward building that community where everyone is valued, treated with dignity and justice, and rise above this fray of back and forth. Theres a lot of polarization, divisiveness. We have to find a way to speak another language in the culture now. Otherwise, were going to come apart. How troubling, disturbing for you to see this kind of polarization that you speak of, and when you look at the democratic race for the white house, there were many people that celebrated the diversity of the field and much of that diversity is no longer there, when you look at the top candidates in the democratic race. Do you see any real parallels between the polarization of america or was the hope of diversity and much of that diversity is no longer demonstrative in the top tier of candidates . You know, it is disturbing that were still at a place where theres not enough diversity on either platform, not just on the democratic platform, on the republican platform as well. But the beauty is that it started out that way. It shows us that we can have a more diverse pool and should and it gives an image to future generations that this is the way in which we want to go. The most important thing for me right now is something that my father said, that we must learn to live together as brothers and sisters or well be forced to perish together as fools. And therefore, we have to learn to respect all of this diversity, move the diversity forward and capture the ideals that he left for us. I mean, he left for us this notion of nonviolence to create a more just, humane, peaceful world. Thats the education and training we do through the king center to help people to know how to effectively change social systems and structures where at the end of the day, theres the spirit of opportunity for reconciliation between them. On monday in virginia theres a planned progun movement or rally, thats how it is being touted, but there have already been arrests of neonazis who were to be involved in that rally. Perhaps theres no coincidence that it would fall on the day celebrating your dad, dr. Martin luther king jr. How troubling is it for you that that would take place and how do you get ahead of a rally that might invite or welcome people who have already been arrested as neonazis and for allegations of wanting to incite disruptions on a day that should be marking peace, volunteerism and service. First of all, we have to understand everybody is not going to embrace or celebrate my father. Thats to be expected. But those of us that understand his ideals, who seek to practice his ideals have an opportunity to help to continue to educate those people about the work of dr. King and the important work that we need to do in this nation to bring about peace, justice, and equality. But we cannot do it if we just oust people or cancel people as we call it in our culture. Those of us that have courage have to dare to cross some lines. Just telling people who are part of hate and neonazi groups which i think Law Enforcement has to deal with that in the way they should, but those of us that are part of citizenry have to find a way to bridge that divide, to try to win those people over. And people have done that in our culture. Darren davis out of maryland met with many people of the klan, many of them left the klan as a result of his efforts. We need more courageous people like that. Hate doesnt just go away because you hate it or you just push it to the side. Thats like suppressing something in your system, eventually it spreads in other ways. We have a responsibility and opportunity during the year, every year during kings holiday to practice his teachings, practice his ideals, to win more people over to the kind of world we all want. How will you be spending the day monday . We have a commemorative service in the morning at the historic Ebenezer Baptist church. Pastor Howard John Wesley will be there, elected officials will be there, tributes, music, consular core of the International Community will be there, we have Voter Education demonstration at the king center because we have new Voting Machines with paper ballots, we want to help prepare people for the machines that will be present at the march elections. Were doing a beloved Community Talk that evening. Dealing with the issue of suspended racism. What is it. We talk about these words, but what do they really mean. Were going to educate people with the experts on that. The second part is two former nfl players, going to talk about how theyre disrupting racism. During the daytime, 2 00 to 4 30, introduction to nonviolence sessions at spellman college. They can go to kingcenter. Org to find out more. All right. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. A state of emergency is in place in richmond, virginia now, amid fear of violence at the progun rally we were talking about. Thats planned for monday at the state capital. So far, seven suspected White Supremacists are under arrest, three of whom police say were planning to go to the rally on Martin Luther king jr. Day. A temporary weapons ban is in effect on the state capital grounds. The governor putting extra security measures in place to avoid a repeat of deadly violence in charlottesville in 2017. Nick valencia joins me from richmond with more on growing tension. Nick . Reporter theres certainly growing tension, a lot of concern, fredricka. We are two days from the rally. Already seeing stepped up security measures. Early this morning i saw a group trying to enter State Capitol grounds, a Woman Holding a toddler, she was wanded and even though the rally is planned for monday, this is a day that happens every year. It is hosted by the virginia citizens defense league, they talk representatives into being more progun. This year it is different, if only because democrats now control the state legislature. Theres also concern about the state of emergency announced by governor ralph northam. He says there are credible threats, this could be a magnet for extremist groups. Thats why he announced a temporary weapons ban in and around state grounds. We saw as you mentioned what happened earlier this week, fbi expressing concern, arresting suspected neonazis, some who planned to attend the rally. Really quick, fredricka, the antigun violence rally monday were cancelled by Law Enforcement. Thank you for that. Now this breaking news. Out of buckingham palace, the house of windsor releasing a statement moments ago on prince harry and meghans future with the royal family. We have now with me royal correspondent victoria arbiter, joining me with the latest. Victoria, the understanding is harry and meghan may be getting what they wished for, but perhaps they didnt wish it to this extent. Thats certainly how it seems, fredricka. We received again a very personal message from the queen in which she refers to her family members by christian names, harry meghan and archie will be much loved members of the family. I recognize the challenges over intense scrutiny and wish for more independent life. It looked like the independent life means stepping back entirely from royal duties, including harrys official military appointments, ceremonial roles he holds. Theyll no longer receive any public funds for royal duties, and theyre no longer using hrh titles. Thats perhaps the most surprising elements to me. Didnt appear to be reason for them to lose hrh, that suggests a desire to be financially independent as they stated, and in doing so, cant be seen to monetize that hrh title. Something of a wrap up today. The couple are saying they plan to repay the sovereign funds used to redo the cottage, in that respect can keep it as the uk base, they will have funded the renovation of it. All of it due to take place in the spring of 2020. My goodness. Okay. Max foster is with us. He broke the story. Max, what more can you tell us about how this came to be if theres disappointment or if theres a feeling of liberty between harry and meghan. Is this what they wanted . Reporter the queen is being very clear shes trying to support them, but this is i think an agreement, half in, half out arrangement was never going to work. We had lots of background discussions in the last half hour, losing the hrh title, their Royal Highnesses, theyre no longer Royal Highnesses, they will technically be uhut the t will be harry, duke of sussex, harry gives up military positions which are in effect representing the queen, a big give away for him because he is so passionate about the military. He is giving up his royal youth ambassador for the commonwealth. Still involved with the commonwealth, but any role representing the queen hes given up, and the duchess has given up her roles as well. I am told there are no commercial agreements in place currently. We dont know where the next phase goes, it is a huge moment, and the queen allowed them to step out. Theyre going to pay the money back to the public money used to renovate their home, it will be paid back. Nearly 3 million. Theyre going to retain their income from the prince of wales. 95 of their income according to them comes from Prince Charles, and his estate. He is going to continue funding them as they transition out of the royal family, start trying to make their own money effectively. Lots of questions they have been asking about commercial deals for the future. There are huge conflicts around this. There will be review in the future. I think next year, reviewing the whole arrangement which is interesting because theyve never had, it is unprecedented for seeing a royal member of the family to do it this way. There have been situations monarchs abdicated before, but this is an unusual situation. It is very much emphasized, they very much remain part of the royal family, and theyll continue to support the queen in that position. Interesting. So max, do i have a lot of questions. When you mentioned the funding, 90 of it coming from Prince Charles, would continue to do so in transition, so when we talk about in the spring, as of the spring, they essentially can go on about their merry way without royal duties, does that mean thats the moment that kind of money is cut off or does it dovetail over a period of time, allowing them to get on their own two feet since they want to make their own money. Do you know that kind of detail . No confirmation of that. Obviously they have a very accepted lifestyle, theyre public figures and need security as well, big question for canada, how will they manage the security. Right. Who pays for that. Reporter i think Prince Charles, the impression i get is that Prince Charles will continue to fund harry as much as he can. His income comes from duchess of corn wall. I think Prince Charles is committed longer term on this. It will be very interesting to see what commercial arrangements theyre looking at. Very clear that they feel theyre going to be able to fund themselves, as much as Prince Charles money is 2, 3 million a year, i think ultimately their lifestyle will be much more than that, theyre looking for some sort of commercial deal, whether they have conversations about that, they havent signed anything yet. Certainly looking at how are they going to do that. It is a big moment. Im sure victoria, i didnt hear the conversation, she would have explained that the title of your Royal Highness is significant in many ways, not only shows youre a Senior Member of the royal family, in terms of state events, where you sit, how close to the queen, to the prime minister. Theyve given up the status that comes from being a Senior Member of the royal family. Bigger question about the website. Theyre known as sussex royal. The organization is known as sussex royal. Theyre no longer royals. That was one of my followup questions. Can they keep that, sussex royal. Because theyve already marketed that moniker for themselves. They have. It is under discussion, lets say that. The big issue for them is the accusation that they may be cashing in on the royal brand which they didnt create, certainly harry spent a lifetime adding to that in a powerful way, but this is a brand that goes back a thousand years and theres an issue about how theyre allowed to cash in on that, i think the word royal will have to be taken away from a lot of what they do. Duchess of sussex, harry of sussex, theyll be meghan and harry. She refers to them as meghan and harry. This is how well know them from now on. Duke and duchess of sussex but i dont think well necessarily be using that in the future. Is this a victory for this couple. Is much of what they wanted, some of what they wanted or a little bit of what they didnt want . I think they got what they wanted. They wanted to do what they wanted to do, they wanted freedom which you give up very much when you become a member of the royal family. You do give up fundamental human rights. You cant vote, express your opinions, cant travel freely. I think they were very much frustrated by that. They genuinely want to change the world. If you have private conversations with them, thats the sort of thing they talk about, want to bring fairness to the world. Theyre very powerful figures. They werent able to do any of that. These negotiations started off at a point where harry would continue representing the queen at events he chose. We come out the other end where he is not allowed to do that, youre either in or youre out. Theyve chosen out. It would have been tough negotiations. I am told everyone is happy with the arrangement now. For harry and meghan, being able to do what they wanted to do, and theyre allowed to do that. It is a triumph. I think theres sadness, particularly for harry i would have thought. That he would have had to give up that public role which is supporting the queen, supporting the military because he wanted to keep, spent his whole life building that up, had to give up. So theres compromise for him on that side. Compromise on all sides. The moment he loses two charismatic figures that opened the monarchy to a completely new world as well, the duchess, a lot is talked about her diversity, where she comes from. The American Market is opened up to this. She was older when she got married, she was a divorcee, brought in a new market for the royal brand. Theyll be losing that in terms of working royals. Interesting. Gains, losses, vice versa on so many levels. Max foster, victoria, i want to talk to you more about this. So many questions. Were taking a short break. If youre joining us, huge changes for the monarchy, as it pertains to harry and meghan. They got a lot of what they requested, as they strive for independence, and freedom, and at the same time, a lot of losses measured too. Were going to talk much more about this. Harry and meghan, archie, no longer members of the royal family. Well be right back. As parents of six, this network is one less thing i have to worry about. vo why the aceves family chose verizon. We all use our phones very differently. These two are always gaming and this one is always on facetime. And my oldest is learning to be a pilot. We need a Reliable Network because i need to know hes safe. As soon as he lands, he knows he better call mama. Mama vo the network more people rely on, gives you more. Like plans your family can mix and match starting at just 35. And apple music on us. Plus, up to 700 off the latest iphone when you switch. Thats verizon. Coyou fifteen percentico or more on Car Insurance . Do woodchucks chuck wood . Hey you dang woodchucks, quit chucking my wood geico. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on Car Insurance. All right. Welcome back. More on the breaking news from the royal family. We are learning that harry and Meghan Markle are no longer working members of the royal family. The queen releasing this statement just moments ago saying following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, i am pleased that together we have found a constructive, supportive way forward for my grandson and his family. Harry, meghan, archie will always be much loved members of my family. I recognize the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life. I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across the country, the commonwealth, and beyond, and am particularly proud how meghan has so quickly become one of the family. It is my whole familys hope that todays agreement allows them to Start Building a happy and peaceful new life. That coming from her majesty, the queen, on allowing harry and meghan to get much of what they have been seeking, independence, freedom. I want to bring back cnns max foster. He broke this story, is joining us on the phone. Victoria arbiter is still with us. Max, you first. So if there was a wish list from harry and meghan, were most of those items checked or is there a happy medium, a compromise made with the queen on getting some of what they wanted . Reporter the freedom to do what they want to do, without having to pass things through the palace, work within restrictions of being working royals, which is not compromising the queen in any way. Theyre not associating with brands she may not want to associate with, things like that. I think just hearing you reread that statement, it is interesting to hear the line, i am particularly proud of how meghan has so quickly become one of the family, i think not just a statement, i think it is a peace treaty as well. I have royal sources last year, this rift between the brothers, for example, that has broken out recently, but also more recently that duke and duchess of sussex team have felt very much that they were undervalued by the rest of the family and palace system, and werent supported, almost set up to fail in terms of an office and household. This is the queen, you know, the boss, saying that i am particularly proud of meghan, and this is her reaching out to meghan, saying we are a family. Were going to move forward. And words new life, theyre quite profound in terms of palace speak. I am sure victoria will tell you as well. This is a grandmother speaking about her grandchildren, no longer referring to them as duke and duchess of sussex, theyre no longer working royals. It feels to me quite liberating to the queen to be able to talk to them in that way. Obviously one of the great conflicts of any monarch, theyre the boss of a firm but also head of the family, now shes just a grandmother to prince harry and meghan is his wife, and she can rebuild that relationship without any of the ta tangling of working royals and restrictions they obviously felt uncomfortable with, which is why you ended up with the family crisis. I think it is a hopeful, positive message going forward. Obviously the monarchy has to redefine itself. Dont have these two global superstars in their mix to bolster the royal brand. Part of this is that the pressure on Prince William and duchess of cambridge rises immensely. They now are standard bearers for that generation, when there was clear agreement that harry and william would share that burden going forward. Interesting. You take it through gains and losses on both sides. The monarchy had gained quite a bit, right, but because of the celebrity of harry and meghan, how breaking the mold was something that so many but then what will be i guess in the loss category, you know, for the monarchy, and is it all gains for harry and meghan . Or are there losses that they are going to have to come to terms with . They will reach an impasse. The couple werent happy with their positions and it was creating a horrible riflt within the family. Ive argued quite strongly that it is a family crisis, you have to separate it out from an institutional crisis, actually, what youve seen is the institution itself become much stronger through this process, youve seen, if you imagine, that the monarchy, is the backbone of the monarchy, you can modernize it as much as you like but ultimately it is a hierarchy and built on the line of succession, the queen, charles, william, george, and as long as that remains strong, it remains strong and this wasnt a crisis of the monarchy and they came together in an astounding way and there are clear differences between the three households but they came in lockstep and came up with a common response so actually the monarchy i think is probably fine, there is a huge massive support base for the sussexs, they are superstars, and young people actually around the world i think look up to meghan in particular, and the way shes confronted the ultimate institution, many would say the ultimate white institution, challenged it, and wouldnt compromise. I mean certainly there are people in this country who felt very uncomfortable about that. They felt that she should have assimilated more, i think that her fans though think she is an absolute rock star and she is going to take that forward and she, as a royal correspondent, i have been fascinated to see how shes built her public role, because actually, as a royal, she did it fantastically, it is female empowerment, stuck with it and applied it to all of her different engagements. She was immensely popular on all of the things she went on and i think the public, the royal family has lost that, but she is still going to be supportive. This is a peace treaty. Knee is not going to go out and, she is not going to go out and do a big interview, a tell all interview, and support the royal family and her own autonomy with harry and start off in canada and i suspect it will end up in the united states. And ticking off some of the things in this announcement that werent necessarily in the statement from the queen, in terms of them, they will no longer have royal duties, and there will be eventually no more public funds that will finance their life, although you did mention that Prince Charles will kind of help them in the transitioning. They cannot, the pair cannot formally represent the queen. The susk sussexs will continue to maintain their private enterprises and associations but they cant necessarily write capitalize, of being members of monarchy, because they no longer are that. So then you had mentioned, you know, that Prince Charles will help them in the transitioning financially, but lets talk about what transitioning means. Perhaps it might be easier for meghan to transition back to a sort of civilian lifl, because she knows as a working person what it was. You know, to capitalize off her celebrity, you know, for instance, to be a celebrity, but for him, wont the transition be very difficult . Because the royal life is all he has known, and now, you know, as a grown man, he will transition into being a civilian, someone who, you know, can make money, and market himself, as an individual, separate from the monarchy. I think youre on to a really good point there. I mean harry, in my experience, he can be quit a negative person, so if youre chatting to him, a lot of my conversations with him have been about media coverage, and you can have a day where from my perspective, hes had nothing but positive coverage in all of the papers, and all of the tv networks, and its all great, but he will mention one negative story in a spirit magazine, and he will focus on that, and that will be, i dont know, i cant explain why that is, hes absolutely traumatized from his upbringing in the shadows of diana, where the security wasnt the same, the palace system wasnt the same, and the photographers would literally hound them, and he would end up, you would see his mother cry, and that was a very painful experience, he was traumatized from that and there was a recent documentary, which had a very powerful moment, and he describes how every click of the cameras reminds him of the death of his mother, so this is a traumatized man, a traumatized boy. And perhaps it was in that same interview where he pledged, he had said if ever he had a family, he had made a, you know, a commitment to self, that he would work really hard to try to shield them, protect them, and largely based on the kind of experience that, you know, he had, and walking with his brother alongside his brother, behind the casket of his mom. He also said that he would never meet someone he didnt think that could handle the pressure of his role. And i think, having spoken to him about that, i think probably he felt that he could protect meghan, and he hasnt been able to. So max i think that is very hard. Max, we are not finished talking, because this is so fascinating. You have incredible information as does victoria. We will take a short break for now and when we come back, we will talk more about this, the breakup, essentially between harry, meghan and archie, and the royal family.
