The latest news from around the world with host Fredricka Whitfield. Speak out on the stuff that you know . And they have shifted gears so much on that, i think that its interesting to say its from that investigation that develops, but at best, he spoke too soon. So the president has said he wants this russia thing to go away, he wants people to stop talking about it, stop asking about it, but hes the one whos bringing it up. So here we are a couple of months away from the midterm elections, so how important is it to get out in front, change the narrative, when the president keeps bringing it up. Every day, the news of the day is dictated by what the president tweets. One thing we can all appreciate about the president s twitter account, is that we dont not know what hes thinking in the more. I think as we were talking about in the previous segment, republicans want to talk about the economy, they want to talk about jobs, the Unemployment Rate and yet the president is talk about other things in his tweets. If the republicans dont vote in the same numbers they do in regular midterm elections or the republicans are turned off and they want to send a message to the president , then republicans are going to struggle, particularly in the house. We know that the mueller team has expressed or had dialogue with the reputation of donald trump, saying question do want to interview, lets come up with some parameters, et cetera, now that the president is talking about this, changing the events of the trump tower meeting. Might the mueller team say we have enough, you dont need to interview him because hes voluntarily giving information. I think mueller will still want to talk to him. He wants to check off that box for completeness. I think the one in biggest jeopardy right now is don jr. , i think the president is putting out more damage to himself when he talks to mueller if in fact that happens. What do you think is the danger for don jr. . He has denied talking to his father about it, he has denied talking about the russian government aspect of it. A lot of that may be contradicted, they may be able to get Phone Records showing he did speak to his dad, the allegations from michael cohen, that actually the president did know and don jr. May have been in the room when he was told. The big thing is that hes testifying under oath. Do you think hell be called back, especially as a result of the president saying this, as a change of tail here, don jr. Being called back because he would be the one potentially subject to perjury, right, if he has to chain hnge his story . He might go back, but if i were his lawyers, i would not want him to go back, this just leaves him open to further statements. Stay here, get policy done, legislation done, confirmations done, is this because Mitch Mcconnell is concerned about the president s behavior, what he says leading up to midterm elections. I think part of it is, with less than three months before the midterm elections, the entire house, some key republican senators, they want to have something tangible to go back to the voters and say this is what we got done, you might be hearing about the russia investigation, but heres what im doing as your congressman. They have the tax bill, and i think they want a couple of other things under their belt to take back because then the conversation is going to be dictated by other things. Its an expression of urgency to get it done now because it sounds like the gop, Senate Majority leader is worried about the outcome of the elections. The majorities are at stake in both chambers right now. Good to see you both. There is a new report from the washington post, that Maria Buttina did interact with buttina and gordon were in contact in the run up to the election of 2016. I would like to present russia. Reporter for an alleged russian spy, maria butte teina her overly flirtatious approach left men wondering what she was really after. Two of her classmates found her comments so alarming their reported her to Law Enforcement. Buttina pled not guilty to charges or conspiracy after her july arrest. Her lawyer insists shes not a spy and she wont cut a deal with prosecutors if it means saying she is one. The problem with cutting a deal is if youre not a reporter allegedly trying to infiltrate gop political circles as just one of the tools in moscows arsenal as Vladimir Putin tries to meddle in american democracy, an ongoing effort. We continue to see a pervasive messaging campaign by russia to try to weaken and divide the united states. Reporter past russian spies have hadopted fake ids and have had coded messages over radio transmission. She toutded her Gun Rights Group in 2014. In 2015, she requested then candidate donald trump about sanctions against russia at a vatican political event. Im visiting from russia. Reporter as an American University student, trump had defended putin. People who met her through school and political events said she was a little too friendly. She was quick to start Playi Ii Footsie under the table. Her lawyer says her contacts caught the attention of the fsb, one of russias security services. I think anyone who is russian has to meet with the fsb when they go back and forth and frequently are asked at the airport what they were doing in america if they have any information for the fsb. Reporter and shef was probably a valuable asset for russia. I think she was a valuable asset for russia, but i would like to see other versions of Maria Buttina. Her boyfriend who has not been accused of wrong doing, they found a note in his handwriting, how to respond to fsb offer of employment. Its unclear which of them it was before. Still to come, how close the north korea to actually getting rid of its Nuclear Weapons . The president is being criticized for not holding the regime accountable and now the white house is responding. And the fight against ms13, well take you to an area in the u. S. Hit hard from Gang Violence and what the governmepresident do about the gang coming up. You dont want to live with mom and dad forever, do you . Im making smoothies how do i check my credit score . We compare rates to help you get the price and coverage thats right for you. Thats amazing the only thing that would make this better is if my mom were here. What . an unexpected ending it, even the president s fiercest critic cant say that he didnt open the door wide enough. But were doing to have to have more negotiations with the north koreans no question about it. And karl rove is r who is also editor of the new yorker online, we understand there was a letter between trump and kim jongun himself and President Trump hasnt really called out kim jongun on not moving faster on denuclearization and then you hear bolton protecting the reputation of the president saying he is working really hard, what is going on here with this messaging . I think bolton is defending the president , thats his job, but theres information coming out of the north korean summit that north korea is still building Ballistic Missiles and theres also intelligence reports that north korean officials have talked about destroying some of their Nuclear Weapons declaring that they have given them up and actually secretly retaining dozens of nuclear warheads. All this is a bad sign, this does not show great progress from the trumpkim summit. So the president has accused russia and china with interfering with north korean in bypassing sanctions, what do you make of that . Thats another negative sign, and the broader picture here has the very tough sort of rhetoric and Saber Rattling by President Trump and this meeting in singapore, has it actually worked . And if you look at the ground reality, is kim jongun giving up his Nuclear Arsenal and is he allowing unfettered inspections inside north korea . No. I hope some of this is achieved. But this is a very soft rhetoric against north korea and a harsh rhetoric toward iran. The president saying hes willing to meet with irans president , without any preconditions, this as we remind the world that the president pulled the world out of the iran deal. So how is this being received if youre in iran . I think theres, you know, theres confusion. The president pulled out of the iran nuclear deal, theres economic sanctions that are going to be reimposed in iran. And theyre not sure, i think, whats going to come next, but theres no question, that iran was abiding by the Obama Administrations nuclear deal, u. N. Inspectors agreed to that, but trump has thrown that out. So we see this sort of volatile and again i hope the president s diplomacy works, but its a very volatile, sort of erratic approach to each of those countries. What about any potential Regime Change in iran . What are consequences of that . Is there some inference from this white house that thats what theyre looking for . Secretary of state pompeo has called for iranians to rise up. We have done this before, we did Regime Change in iraq. How do we know the new government will be better, how do we know there wont be chaos in iran . So whats the strategy here . Whats the longterm plan in iraq . If we are able to change this government, are we enmeshed in another country, another occupation, im not saying there couldnt be a better government to come, but last the plan over the longterm and to stabilize the region in the longterm. I also want to ask about venezuela, meduro, talking about an Assassination Attempt by bombs on drones, hes blaming outside agitators for the incident and we heard from the white house who said there was no u. S. Government involvement. What do you suppose hes saying . I think hes planning on a statement by President Trump soon after he took office to the surprise of many of his aides, President Trump talked kb ed ab carrying out a Military Invasion of venezuela, so this is kind of the cost of the president s rhetoric where hes criticizing countries on one point and agreeing with them on the other. But the president s Rhetoric Makings it easy for meduro for saying, im the victim of trump calling for an invasion of our country, so hes doing this to actually increase his popularity at home. President trump has vowed to wipe out ms13. But the fbi says the gang is growing and the violence is rising. Once again he praised Law Enforcement officials for their role in combatting Gang Violence. You know, when ms13 sees the i. C. E. People, when they come in, ms13 says we got problem. I. C. E. Has been fantastic for this country, theyre brave, theyve got a tough job. And were getting these gangs like ms13 and others, were getting them the hell out of the country one by one. But the problem is anything but gone. Authorities say the gang has been on a Killing Spree in recent months and is making their way into more suburban neighborhoods. Ana cabrera went to long island to see how ms13 is impacteding that community. Her life was taken, stolen from her. Its not right. She had dreams, she had goals, she had a future. The fbi says ms13 first came on their radar in 2010, but they began to see an up tick in violence in 2013. Thats when Law Enforcement in el salvador tried to control different parts of the gang. Is. Why new york is the question . The answer is in sufficient foll su county during that time. Reporter since 2014, the u. S. Government has placed more than 9,000 unaccompanied minors, undocumented children and teenagers who have crossed into the u. S. Without parents are guardians with sponsors in long island communities. Many of them dont speak english, they dont have money in their pocket, their parents arent typically with them, they are seeking a sense of belonging and ms13 comes to them and says we can provide that, but they say if you dont join the gang, this is whats going to happen to you. You wont believe how bad these people are. These arent people, these are animals. Reporter is the Immigration Rhetoric that were hearing in the Current Administration in d. C. Helping or hurting your efforts . Certainly the administrations focus on ms13 is helpful, on the awareness and driving the mission. But we need to be clear, we need to be sending a message to the imgrant population, the immigrant communities that we stand where them. And you dont feel like your commission is being used as a political pawn . Its my job to stay out of politics. The ag from fix e there are more important things to be taking care of for the united states. And unfortunately, should i say this . I believe trump is an idiot. Reporter there are Fuel Emissions Standards which Car Companies must meet by 2020. Now the Trump Administration is trying to freeze that at 34 miles an hour. The argument goes like this if Fuel Economy Standards are lower, cars will be cheaper to make and therefore cheaper to buy. And opponents say consumers will actually suffer paying more at the pump in those legal fuel efficient vehicles, air quality will suffer, along with Public Health and the oil industry will benefit. This is an effort by the Trump Administration to try to eke out some more profit before that whole industry turns out upside down. Reporter this president does have a penchant for rolling back his predecessors emissions standards. The standards set by the Obama Administration are absolutely doable. Now the Trump Administration Doesnt Know Whether to live by obamas standards or set their own. Tonight the cnn original Series History of comedy is back with an all new episode. John belushi, gilda radner, all cut down at the height of their career. Tonight well look at what happens when the people who make us all laugh leave us too soon. Heres a preview. When you do something great, a little piece of you will always continue to go on. The worst thing about being in the hospital is that they shave you, they shave everything, you know . And i was recent lly visiting a friend of mine. Larry sandler was not afraid of admitting his frailties. He turned tv on its head twice. Oh, i feel so uncomfortable when i do these showings. Well, so do i. You do . Yeah. But youre so good at it. Trust me, i hate myself. Much of modern Television Comedy can be traced back to a lot of the chances gary took. It doesnt add up to my that hes gone, not having his voice doesnt feel right, even before i met him, he felt like a comedic friend to me. All my journey is to be authentically who i am. He almost seemed like he was floating through the world a little bit. Like he was there to help. What i want at my funeral is an actual boxing referee to account and just wave it on and say hes not getting up. The reason that garys death is a crime is not just because i dont get to talk to him anymore. But he wasnt done. Enter the loss of these Comedy Legends just like the ones we mentioned earlier, the reactions of the fans and fellow comedians is very strong. Why do people feel even if they didnt know them personally, that there is such a connection . When you think about your favorite friends, forget about comedians for just a second, but who are your favorite friends . Theyre usually the people who make you laugh, you want to hang out with those people. And thats sort of what comedians are. If you make somebody laugh, youre going to have a tremendous amount of affection coming your way, they want that love, they want that attention. Even somebody like don rickle s who was over the age of 80 when he died seems too soon because of the way they make us feel. A lot of comedians have strange deaths because they were people who make us laugh. There was a guy named dick shown, and he played hitler in the Springtime For Hitler sequence, and he did standup in the 1960s, 70s, he was doing a very broad stick, he did physical comedy. He had a heart attack on stage, and fell back on stage dead. And the audience laughed and applauded and he laid there for 15 minutes. And the applause and the laughter would come and go, so everybody thought it was a big joke. There was another comedian named john j. Ross. In the 1980s, his career kind of had fallen on hard times and he was working at an Old Folks Home he was being paid 100 to perform for seniors. And he had a heart attack on stage as well. This time everybody knew for sure that he had died. His wife went to collect the money because they didnt have a lot of maund soney and she want raise money for the funeral. And she met with the guy at the Old Folks Home and she said im here to collect the money for my husband jeremy roth, and he handed her 50 and she said he made 100, and he said but he didnt fin yiish the show. Its an insane story, but it makes people laugh, and comedians are so near and dear to our hearths that when we lose one, its really hard to process. There are comedians that have passed and there are comedians that we lost because they simply quit. Is this an issue of just getting burned out . Well, in a way, its amazing if you look at the list of comedians that quit standup before they became huge comedians, larry allen, and they all had their Different Reasons for walking away, most of them wanted to use stand up as sort of a Launching Point to do something else, woody allen with stand up, Steve Lawrence with film. But it would be interesting to know if they were still doing their stand up in the 1980s, if george carlin were doing standup today, what would he say today about nazis, about the president , well never know, but its something a lot of us consider and think about frequently. I think a lot of folks from the outside looking in, are thinking that often times standup is going to be the launch pad and people perhaps leave standup to pursue other things, but then there sometimes is a return to stand up because that is their roots, its kind of familiarity, its that touch stone again before branching off again to those other things, is that what you find . Well, yeah, i mean once you do stand up, once you figure out what the puzzle is on how to do it, how to have confidence, how to entertain an audience randomly. You never really lose that skill. Youre rusty if youre not going up on a regular basis. Theres things you have to learn. If youre comfortable on stage, you go up on stage and improvise. But you never lose that mechanism of action. I quit doing standup in 1976, i can go on tv and its not a big deal. But for someone who never did comedy, they would be very nervous about it. You never really lose that comedic muscle, but it has to be worked out like going to a gym. Be sure to tune in, an all knew The History Of Comedy tonight at 10 00 on cnn. Amanda boxnel lost her ability to walk after a skiing accident, and now shes helping other people to walk using bionic limbs. My goal has always been to make a full recovery.
