Recession and the stock market is inflated and he could reduce the 19 trillion deficit within eight years. Bob costa and bob woodward met him and said it was an extremely candid. I think my headline for me was what he said about the economy in a precarious situation that there is a bubble but then we asked about what would be your advice as a stockbroker or somebody who provides tips on the stock. And i was really surprised. He said, its terrible now. This is not the time to invest in the stock market. Economists said its very odd for a Major Party Nominee to make this kind of bleak statement about the American Economy and in all of your years reporting, have you seen a candidate say this kind of thing about the economy . No. What they say is they may criticize the incumbent from the other party and say, the economic policies are not working and i have better policies. But what trump was saying is that this is really dreary. Lets talk more about this with Steven Ginsburg who edited the interview with donald trump. Good to see you. So in this interview, donald trump was accompanied by his son, don junior, and his aides. How much was this about donald trump trying to look more president ial, sound more president ial, trying to reveal more detail about what he would do in the first 100 days if elected and also reveal a rather bleak view of the nations economy. Well, the question about whether or not hes trying to look more president ial is an interesting one because he said they are all encouraging him to be more president ial but he doesnt really believe in that. He was rather defiant about that. He has two more people to beat and until he beats them hes not going to look president ial or try to unify the party or do any of those things that a normal candidate might do at this point until he wins the primary. On the economy, i think bob woodward was exactly right about that. Most candidates criticize the policy of the other party and he was criticizing the facts of the economy. Most people would tell you its moving along pretty steadily. Its doing well. What donald trump is predicting a massive recession, says people shouldnt invest in the stock market. And the economy, the business, being a businessman, this is his wheel house and it seems as though for a while while running for the presidency, he left his comfort zone and went other directions to, like you said, continue to get the attention, stir up support. Is this almost like a return, you know, to his comfort zone, his strengths as a businessman, as he rolls out his vision of what he would do if elected in the first 100 days, for example . I think thats a perceived wheelhouse for him. For him being a businessman is being successful, being in charge, a little less about investment advice, what he was doing last week. Woodward and robert costa, mentioning that it appeared as though donald trump was really not in the mood to talk. He wanted to keep the conversation going. You were editing this. Right. Donald trump was in fact giving different answers than he typically does. Did that present a challenge for you in editing, trying to bring the freshest or help unfold the real donald trump or the new donald trump as he tries to look a little more president ial . Thats a great question. One thing you have to credit donald trump for is talking. We always want our president ial candidates to tell us as much as they possibly can about what they think who they are, what they are going to do and donald trump does that more than anyone i can ever remember doing. It is a little bit of a challenge when you look at turn out to be 60 some pages of the transcript and you read it all and theres just so much news in there. If you read through it and follow them as closely as we have, you see through lines in it and they are drumbeats of what he believes that he goes back to all the time. Trade is one of them. His feelings about how hes running his campaign, how hes going to be aggressive at every turn, thats something that he always comes back to. You just try to pull those out. Steve ginsburg, its fascinating. Thank you so much. The Washington Post. Thank you. Thank you. Donald trump also being quite candid on the campaign trail today at a diner in milwaukee. He told reporters that he thinks that its unfair that he has to get 1237 delegates in order to get the nomination. The reason its very unfair, i think ill get there. The reason its very unfair is the following. When i started, there was 17 candidates. People never say this. Ive never even heard of that. I didnt have two candidates or four. I had 17 candidates. Most of those candidates were accomplished people. You had governors, senators, people like dr. Ben carson who has endorsed me and is an amazing guy. You have a lot of accomplished people. You had a lot of people. The biggest field ever in the history of what were doing. When i went to those first primary states, we had many, many people on the ballot and i won i could win with a small basically small number and its like a phenomenal number that you could get that much. But whats unfair is this. We had 17 candidates. Those early states. There was so many people and one was getting 2 and one was getting 5 and 4 . And while i would win most, they took so many votes away from me. All right. Lets talk more about this with republican strategist brian morganstern. Good to see you. Brian, should this be under consideration changing the rules because the field was so big initially . No, of course not. What makes sense is that the partys nominee should become that way through consensus. You have to get the majority of the delegates. Thats happen with a widdling of candidates. But, of course, when the rules dont suit the donald, those are the ones that are unfair. So this isnt exactly surprising but in most peoples view, hes wrong on this. Ellis . Its actually the opposite. Hes not going to get what he wants because all of the rules are going to be changed to hurt him. Not help him. Clearly the establishment of the party doesnt want him to be the nominee and they are already scheming to manipulate the rules and do a bunch of other sharpie stuff to deny donald the nomination. Hes not going to get that. Are you going to comment on that . Theres a scheme they are transparent. In one direction. Not the other. Well, look, reince has been out there and saying rightly that every convention is governed by its own rules, by its own rules committee but with regard to delegates, theres been this number of delegates for the entire race. This isnt a new thing. But the Convention Rules will be open and on national television. They will have to approve them. Its not going to be secret. Trump will have just as good of a chance of negotiating with delegates on the first or second or third ballot if there are subsequent votes as any other candidate. If hes the art of the deal author and the real deal maker, he should have a better chance of winning the nomination. Brian, listen, you know the reality. These sharpies, these ben ginsburg and other washington lawyers are already trying to figure out how to manipulate the system with only one purpose in mind, denying donald the nomination. Thats just a fact, isnt it . But, look, every person whos involved in this is a human with interests and trump is involved just as everybody else is. Hes going to try to stack the committee with his own supporters as well. Just as cruz and kasich will. Framing it as the scheming sharpies, i think thats not right because its an adversarial process fair to everybody. Its not fair, though. Come on. What part is not fair . Listen, the reality right now is theres a judgment being made in washington by some of brians very good friends i know. Would it be more damaging to try to deny the nomination to the obvious and clear frontrunner of all these people even if he doesnt get 1237 . Even if he gets to 1100 or 1200, hes obviously the clear frontrunner. Even if the rules say youve got to have 1237 and youve got 1200, 1500, just because you have more than the rest, youre saying it would not be necessarily bending the rules if he were allowed to win the nomination . You make a perfectly good mathematical argument. You know what, there are all of these decent americans who went out and voted in good faith in this system which led donald trump to becoming the easy and clear frontrunner. Youre going to look in their eyes and say, no, your votes didnt count. We people in washington have a better idea than all of you all who put him in first place . Spoken like someone who wants trump to be the nominee so that his party can win. Seriously, what are those conversations, then, within the rnc . Were hearing publicly what Reince Priebus is saying in private. What are these conversations about that kind of scenario. Hes the frontrunner but he doesnt necessarily hes hundreds of votes if not a handful of votes away from 1237. What is the rnc preparing for, whether its the establishment that likes him or not or picks another candidate or not, what is the preparation taking place behind closed doors . Well, i think the preparation is each campaign is trying to, you know, choose delegates who are going to represent their interests and then trying to get those delegates on the rules committee to try to create a favorable environment. I dont think its the rnc scheming. All candidates are trying to push their guys into the positions of power so that they can have the leverage come convention time. Its not really the rnc orchestrating stuff. Im not seeing the skepticism being erased from ellis face. Its a big mess. Thats what its going to be. Yes, i am enjoying it. Yes, i am enjoying it. Its all very fascinating. Ellis, brian morgenstern, thank you so much. Out of chester pennsylvania, two amtrak construction workers are dead and dozens of other people have been injured after an amtrak train collided with a backhoe that was on the path of the tracks. The train carrying more than 300 people derailed. Service is now limited in the northeast corridor between philadelphia and wilmington, delaware. Generally a very busy path. Federal investigators are heading to the scene. Well keep you updated with the latest. The fighting between the democrats running for the white house. Bernie sanders and Hillary Clinton, its heating up. The impact that these disputes could have on their tightening president ial race with our political panel. Thats next as we monitor a Bernie Sanders rally right there in wausau, wisconsin. Well be right back. Two days away from primary, for the democrats and primaries in wisconsin. Bernie sanders is speaking at an event in wausau. Lets listen in. Pay your workers a living wage. [ applause ] but it is not only a corrupt Campaign Finance system that we have to worry about, it is not only a rigged economy, its a broken criminal system that is destroying lives all over this country and in every state in america. Right now, and we dont talk about it and what this campaign in its essence is about is that demanding that the American People think outside of the box and the status quo and not accept the options that the Corporate Media gives you. [ applause ] we cant allow tv news to determine for us what the real issues are facing this country. Because they have their own builtin conflicts of interests which in many ways will not discuss in a significant way the real issues facing america. So here is an issue that we have got to grapple with. Today, the United States has more people in jail, 2. 2 million people, than any other country on earth. So i want everybody to be thinking, how does it happen that in the wealthiest country in the history of the world we have more people in jail than china, a nation four times our size with an authoritarian communist government that does not tolerate dissent terribly well. We have more people in jail. And many, many lives are being destroyed and the people in jail are disproportionately africanamerican, latino Bernie Sanders talking about the disproportionate number of people in jail affecting the africanamerican community. Thats in wausau and well continue to monitor his comments there two days ahead of the republican and democratic primary in wisconsin. Lets bring in our panel. A democratic strategist and Bernie Sanders supporter and matt lipman, thanks to both of you for joining me. Why is this becoming an issue that Bernie Sanders is promoting . This also seems to be an issue that Hillary Clinton rolled out when she first announced that she was running. Well, i mean, we all know its been very public that theres been a debate between senator sanders all the way back to august. They reach an agreement, the Sanders Campaign and clinton campaign, right before New Hampshire that they would have a New Hampshire debate as the clinton suggested that they wanted because they were down by 22 points if senator sanders and clinton could have two more debates. One in april and may and we just had one in michigan. Unfortunately, the pollster went on air and said they wouldnt debate if he didnt change his tone. The tone is, senator sanders is talking about Hillary Clintons record. They are not personal attacks. They are what donald trump and Hillary Clinton is doing by calling Bernie Sanders a liar. Hes talking about a record. So now they are agreeing to a debate. She was up 30 points a few weeks ago and now only up by 12 points and this is her state. Its both of her home states. Matt, how do you see the landscape here of the tone very much changing between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton . Are these signs, one feeling like they have the edge, the other there is desperation or worry or is just simply the way it is when you come down this Halfway Point or near the Halfway Point at the primary season . I think its more as we get down to the sanders is still behind, he has to do something to change the game. Thats why they are fighting so hard to have a debate which hillary has said she will have. But hillary is the front runner. She doesnt need to have it. They have had many and she will have another debate with bernie, it certainly sounds like. There is some flailing on the Sanders Campaign and i like senator sanders and i think hes doing a really good job but attacking hillary for what hes attacking for her is silly and below the belt. But fine, hillary is ahead and bernie needs to try to do something to change the dynamic a little bit. Has the sanders camp been talking recently that Bernie Sanders has to come across a little bit more aggressive because for so long he came across very genteel and many have said they feel like they are seeing a different Bernie Sanders now . I think that supporters, he has a very strong Grassroots Network thats been challenging Hillary Clinton with her record and position. You have several columnists going out there and criticize her record, all the way back to well form reform and prison reform. This has been a crux of the grassroots support for the Bernie Sanders community. Hes not going to back off or let things slide when shes going out and attacking. The key thing that the clinton camp is doing is shes very good at denying, detracting and spinning. In a video she attacked a green peace activist for challenging her on her record, something that you can quickly factcheck, and instead of admitting that she quite regularly accepts money from the oil and gas industry and has bundlers from the lobbyists of those oil and gas companies. Instead of acknowledging that, she has tried to put sanders on the defensive and thats the reality of this campaign. Bernie sanders is just comparing records which is what all candidates do and thats her job. She didnt talk about the emails. Lets remember that. He took the higher road there. Both sides are kind of accusing the other of denying, attacking and spinning. Matt, last word on this . Yes. So just so the audience understands, the democratics have taken 2 of the money donated by the oil and gas industry so far. The republicans have taken 98 of the money. Doesnt count super pacs. Thats right. It doesnt count super pacs. That would be against the law. So what were trying to say here is that some of these attacks are insinuating something that is really not the case. Thats why i think sanders is a little desperate and hillary is in front. Thanks to both of you. Appreciate it. Two days away from wisconsin. Well see what happens. Its been a very busy weekend for ted cruz. Today, hes in wisconsin ahead of tuesdays primary but he was also courting voters in north dakota. Thats next. Well explain. If you have moderate to severe Rheumatoid Arthritis like me, and youre talking to your rheumatologist about a biologic. This is humira. This is humira helping to relieve my pain and protect my joints from further damage. This is humira giving me new perspective. Doctors have been prescribing humira for ten years. Last pictures right now in wisconsin and theres a candidate, ted cruz in green bay and accompanied by Governor Scott walker which many are crediting puts him in a much better position than other candidates two days ahead of the primary. You also see Carly Fiorina up there as well. Lets listen in. Do we have time to listen in a little bit to ted cruz there . All right. Lets listen in. Ive got to say, by the way, what a great privilege to have this gathering opened up. Im just picturing donald j. Trump looking here and jumping over the offensive line and coming in for a sack. Let me tell you, i think donalds hair was on that. And jerry bader, what a great, powerful conservative here in wisconsin. [ applause ] and congressman reid, im so proud to have you standing with us, representing the men and women of wisconsin and fighting every day for the men and women in washington, d. C. , and senator mike lee. A man of principle, a man who loves the constitution. A man who fights each and every day. Ive got to say, wouldnt he look good in a and ill tell you, you guys saw briefly my good friend Carly Fiorina. [ applause ] carly has been barn storming with me all over the country. She just got back from north dakota where she was fighting and earning votes. You want to talk about a rock star. Carly terrifies Hillary Clinton. [ applause ] i can just picture hillary thinking about carly and tossing and turning and tossing and turning in her jail cell. [ applause ] and thank god for Governor Scott walker [ applause ] this man a leader and this man is a fighter and both of those are in short supply. Let me tell you, when scott walker stood up and took on the union bosses of the employees and when the result was ugliness and nastiness and threats, millions of men and women of wisconsin stood by his side. They stood side by side. And that battle, its inspired people all across this country. Its inspired me. That when we stand together as we the people, we can beat the special interests that are bankrupt in our country. [ applause ] ted cruz there putting himself in a position, hes hoping that with Governor Scott walker, with that support, its going to put him in a great position leading to the wisconsin primary. Our Sunlen Serfaty is there in green bay with more on this. We see ted cruz going into this very confidently. Reporter yeah. He appears to be, fred. And i think his campaign is feeling good about their chances here in wisconsin. They are ahead in many of the polls that have recently come out and you saw really the full strength of the endorsements up on stage. He just talked about scott walker and Carly Fiorina, all of whom have been barnstorming this going into tuesdays primary. We just got an email from jeff roe, Campaign Manager for the Cruz Campaign saying this it is all hands on deck in wisconsin and even though they are ahead in the polls, they really cant rest of their laurels in these final 48 hours. In an email to supporters, jeff row roe saying we need to keep pushing. This is all about the math making sure they keep up in terms of delegate counts and so they can come out of wisconsin with the strong argument that they have a path to the nomination to 1237, even though, of course, its a difficult path. Sunlen serfaty, thank you so much in green bay, wisconsin. Appreciate that. All right. President barack obama is meeting with two key republicans this week as other republicans refuse to consider him. Well talk about that next. Moderate to severe Crohns Disease is tough, but ive managed. Except that managing my symptoms was all i was doing. And when i finally told my doctor, he said humira is for adults like me who have tried other medications but still experience the symptoms of moderate to severe Crohns Disease. And that in clinical studies, the majority of patients on humira saw significant symptom relief. And many achieved remission. Humira can lower your ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis. Serious, sometimes fatal infections and cancers, including lymphoma, have happened; as have blood, liver, and nervous system problems, serious allergic reactions, and new or worsening heart failure. Before treatment, get tested for tb. Tell your doctor if youve been to areas where certain fungal infections are common, and if youve had tb, hepatitis b, are prone to infections, or have flulike symptoms or sores. Dont start humira if you have an infection. Ask your gastroenterologist about humira. With humira, remission is possible. As Congress Returns to washington this week, the Merrick Garland nomination will be front and center. Garland meets with Susan Collins and john boozman as others are revoking support for holding hearings. President obama will go to chicago and push for action on the nomination. But many republicans are standing firm, refusing to act on it and democrats are expected to keep up the pressure. Here now is cnns manu raju. Reporter democrats believe they found an issue that will help them win back control of the senate. The gops opposition to considering president Obamas Supreme Court nominee judge Merrick Garland. If the senators dont want to do their jobs, they should stop taking the pay. Reporter at the top of the list, republican ron johnson, a former plastics manufacturing and now considered one of the most endangered republicans in the country but he isnt phased by the democratic outrage. They are blowing it way out of reaction. Im big in real. The fact is, we are not going to hold hearings and we are not going to confirm this justice. Reporter johnson argues his defiance stand will play to his favor with gun enthusiasts in his perennial swing state. This judge is pretty hostile. Hes got a proven record that hes hostile to Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms. Thats kind of important in the state of wisconsin so i think in general if anything it will be to my benefit. Reporter Senate Republicans are betting that their stand will energize both partys bases. Other gop incumbents are digging in as well, including Chuck Grassley and New Hampshires kelly ayotte. Polls add credibility to the gop case. 65 of johnson supporters want him to hold firm against confirming the judge. But a survey also shows clear support to hold the hearings. We think that the republicans are gambling that the people wont care about this and that the issue will go away. And were going to try to make sure that the issue doesnt go away. Reporter former senator russ feingold, a liberal democrat, is looking to win back his seat that he lost to johnson in 2010. He says since never in the modern era has a Supreme Court nominee ever been denied a hearing. But johnsons chances may be far more impacted by the president ial race and the senator says that donald trump could actually help his reelection by attracting new voters in rural wisconsin who are angry at washington. Would you stump at trump . Just because it rhymes. Ronald the donald. You can get all kinds of rhymes out of this thing. Reporter republicans are defending 24 senate seats this cycle compared to just ten for the democrats and democrats believe that this issue blocking the Supreme Court nominee will actually play into their favor when they try to make the case the Republican Congress has been gridlocked. But ron johnson actually got some very good news this week in a new marquette poll that finds them down just three points in this hotly contested race against russ feingold. Manu raju, cnn. Air strikes are putting a financial squeeze on isis. That no ones the same without the game. Like sirloinking who writes, just came home with 85 worth of groceries with names like, goats beard, pawpaw and that vile weed kale. What happened . Well, a lack of football is what happened. Breathe. Soon, youll be enjoying a big ol brat at a tailgate and kale smoothies will be but a memory. Next time you order kale, try using a silent k. Tastes so much better. Youve finally earned enough on your Airline Credit card. Now you just book a seat, right . Not quite. Sometimes those seats are out of reach, costing an outrageous number of miles. Its time to switch. To the capital one venture card. With venture, youll earn unlimited double miles on every purchase, every day. And when youre ready to travel, just book the flight you want, on any airline and use your miles to cover the cost. Now thats more like it. Whats in your wallet . U. S. Officials say an air strike has killed a man responsible for a rocket attack on u. S. Marines last month. The attack on a fire base in Northern Iraq killed one marine and wounded eight others. Oil facilities are also causing a major crash crunch for the terror group. A report in the Washington Post says the isis cash flow is so bad that the group has been putting some of its recruits on half pay. I want to bring in Lieutenant Colonel rick francona, a military analyst. Great to see you. I think you and i spoke about this recently, talking about paychecks. A lot of people dont even think about isis fighters getting paychecks or thinking they may be fueled by the philosophy. There are paychecks and apparently they are getting cut. What does that say to you about the money flow for isis . Well, they are having a real problem and its not just the oil. Its also that they are shrinking terrory. As they take back territory, the Syrian Government takes back territory, its less than what they are controlling. Thats less people for them to tax. The u. S. Has been particularly effective in going after the financial aspects, the oil fields, taking out the oil convoys and the financial facilities so it puts even more of a crunch. What we havent seen, fred, is that it has an effect on recruiting. They are able to bring in the required number of recruits. We see this flow of people coming despite the fact that they get paid and that the life ex pen tan see is very, very low. Do you think potentially the loyalty will erode among those who are enjoying a certain paycheck and then they wont see as much . Might that jeopardize their continued commitment to isis . Oh, i think so. It hasnt taken effect yet but it has to. Because these people went there with the zeal, as you said. But they still have to make a living and provide for their families. All of these young women that go to europe to become the jihadi brides, they need to be taken care of. Its a state. They believe themselves to be a state. They have to pay their people and tax and all of that. Its going to have an impact. It just hasnt happened yet. Isis losing ground in syria and iraq, most recently the syrian army took back the city of palmyra. What impact does that have . It was a big symbolic blow for isis. Pa palmyra was one of their major pushes. They didnt do it alone. There was massive russian air power and Iranian Forces were on the ground, russian air controllers on the ground. It was a joint effort. They were able to push isis back and this is pushing isis back up against the river and make it ceasier f easier for the syrians to move on raqqa. Isis is coming under pressure. Are they going to crack . Not anytime soon but its starting to work. Lieutenant rick francona, always a pleasure. What he has to say about march madness. Are you reliving your auburn experiences when you see these young guys on the court . Not really. I am so far removed from college. I tell people march madness is like must see television. It is villanova and university of North Carolina in the ncaa finals monday night. Former star, charles barkley, calls the journey for all the players to the big dance a huge accomplishment. I caught up with him in houston at nrg stadium and talked to him about returning to the city he once called home. Are you kind of reliving your auburn experiences when you see these young guys on the court . Not really. Im so far removed from college, but i tell people march madness is like must see television. Even going back when i played nba, which was long time ago, we always watched march madness. I tell people, this side of the final four is probably one of the coolest things i do in my life per year. It really is electric. Oh, yeah. For you, youre coming back to a place that was home, playing for the houston rockets. How does that feel . I really enjoyed this city. It was interesting for me because i was obviously at the end of my career, so i wasnt a very good player at that time. But i will say this. People in the city treated me with Great Respect and dignity, thats one of the reasons i look forward to coming here. Whats the advice you have for the players, particularly those that dont make it to the final. Any particular advice, so they feel like winners . They are winners, number one. To make it to the final four is a great accomplishment. To win is the most important thing if you can do it. Getting to the final four in college is a pretty cooley vent. But i never tell guys to worry about basketball, i tell them get that free education. Less than 1 go on to play the nba. This is the last time, 99 of the guys play college, only time they touch a basketball. One cool thing about sports, it gets to broaden your horizons, gives you a chance to change the dynamics of your life, not talking guys that go on to play to the nba, gives you a chance to dictate your future. What do you say to young men that may have aspiration to go on to the nba after a Great College career but say it doesnt work out and that young man or young lady will feel really defeated. Dont ever feel defeated about a sport. A sport is just something thats fun. I tell these guys, man, listen, i wish everybody could play sports for a living. Like i say, less than 1 , football, baseball, basketball go on and play in the pros. So for the other 99 , thats why i say you got to make sure you get your college education. Of course, catch that ncaa championship basketball game tomorrow night. Pregame coverage starts 7 00 eastern on tbs with tipoffset for 8 00 eastern. Why donald trump doesnt think now is the time to invest in the u. S. Economy. Then two amtrak construction workers are dead and dozens of people injured after an amtrak train derails. Ahead, a live report from the newsroom continues after this. Hello again, everyone. Thanks for joining me. Im fredricka whitfield. A candid donald trump hit the campaign trail today as he and his rivals canvas the state of wisconsin two days ahead of the states primary. Trump made a pit stop at a diner in milwaukee. The frontrunner gave reporters his two cents on the delegate math needed to clinch the nomination. The reason it is very unfair, and i think ill get there, i think ill get there, the reason it is unfair is the following. When i started, there were 17 candidates. People never say this. Ive never heard it said. I didnt have two candidates or four, i had 17 candidates. Most of those candidates were accomplished people. You had governors, you had senators, you had people like dr. Ben carson who
