Some of the other candidates to get a little more air time . Reporter hi, fred. Certainly allows them to get more air time. They dont have to compete with donald trump at this event. Weve been here for a while and its a hot ticket. Theyre expecting anywhere from 7,000 to 8,000 people at the vent between the Worship Center and the overflow areas, all coming out to see these six candidates speak. You know, evangelical voters, Christian Conservatives, are a very important part of the gop primary electorate in the early states of iowa, South Carolina, also right here in texas, which isnt a very early voting state but relatively early voting state, and all across the south. This is an important chance for these candidates to come and try to make their case to Christian Conservative voters. Unlike in some of the most recent elections, theres not just one candidate who is trying to appeal to these voters. Back in 2008 you had governor mike huckabee, a former pastor who did very well with this group of voters, helping him to win the iowa caucuses. In 2012 you had former senator Rick Santorum also doing well with this group. Now you have Rick Santorum, you have mike huckabee, some of the other candidates youll hear from today, Carly Fiorina, ben carson, jeb bush, and ted cruz. All of them are trying to appeal to this section of voters. So its an important for each of them to win over some of them. Fred . Athena, theyre trying to make their cases but, you know, they are in church. Does that mean theres going to be less of the criticism of one another, perhaps a more am mickable environment . Reporter well, i would think so. This is not set up as a debate. They have a oneonone chance. Each candidate has ten minutes to give remarks to this big audience, then theres a tenminute q a with the pastor, dr. Jack graham. So they get a chance to really just sell themselves. I would expect them to focus on what they think is important to talk about versus trying to contrast themselves with other candidates. Were likely to hear them talk about religious liberty, issues of samesex marriage, contraceptive coverage, and also the issue of abortion, which of course has been highlighted a lot recently when it comes to planned parenthood and the fight to defund that organization. Fred . Athena jones, thank you so much. Get some hot water and a little lemon and honey for that voice there. And some sleep nap eel do it too. Thanks so much. Earlier today, jeb bush went after donald trump over his comments that george w. Bush was somehow responsible for the attacks on 9 11. Heres his exclusive interview with jake tapper. What are you objecting to about mr. Trumps remarks about 9 11 and your brother . Look, my brother responded to a crisis and did it as you would hope a president would do, united the country, organized the country and kep us safe. Theres no denying that. The great majority of americans believe that, and i dont know why he keeps bringing this up. It doesnt show hes a serious person as it relates to being commander in chief and being the architect of a Foreign Policy. Across the spectrum of Foreign Policy, he talk as though hes still on the apprentice. Literally talking about syria saying isis should take out assad, then russia should take out isis as though it was some kind of board game and not a serious approach. This is just another example of the lack of seriousness, and this is a serious time. Were under grave threats again and i think we need a president with a steady hand. You just put out a new wed ad attacking trump, saying hes not serious. Lets play a clip from that. . The add a goes on to highlight or low light, depending on your point of view, trumps moments in which im sure you would argue he is not being serious. In light of this new ad, let me reask you what i asked at the last debate. Do you feel comfortable with Donald Trumps handle on the Nations Nuclear codes . Your ad seems to be stating clearly you do not. You invoke the number of Nuclear Weapons the United States has. I have great doubts, to be honest with you, and its only because of the things he says. It looks as though hes not taking the responsibility, the possibility of being president of the United States really seriously. For him it looks as though hes an actor playing a role of a candidate for president , not boning up on the issues, not having a broad sense of the responsibilities of what it is to be a president. In his own words, it gives me great concern for sure. And a lot of other people will as well. Why do you think he continues to do so well with Republican Voters . Look, hes a phenomenal personality for sure. And hes capturing peoples deep anger and angst about washington, d. C. , for sure. But hes not going to be able to solve these problems. Hes mirroring peoples anger and he does it very effectively. I dont think trumps going to win the nomination. I think were going to have a nominee that will unite the party and win the presidency but when people begin to think about whos going to be president of the United States, who has the judgment and the seriousness and the ideas to be president to lead us in a different direction, i think that his support will wane. What makes you think hes not going to get the nomination . Hes been leading in the polls for months. Just as a political reporter, i dont see any evidence hes not going to get the nomination. Well see, jake. I mean, this time four years ago, this time eight years ago the conditions were very different and the nominee emerged in the january and february time frame, and i expect that will be the case again this time. After Campaign Fundraising numbers were put out this week, your spokesman tim miller had a comment about marco rubio tweeted, lying about budgets, guess marco picked up something in the senate. Thems fighting words, governor. Yeah. Im not into all that. But he kind of misled people about his fundraising results. Thats fine. Look, the process part of this is not my motivation to run. I believe we can grow our economy at a far faster rate and have a set of concrete plans to do that. And i think on Foreign Policy weve done the exact same thing. So each and every day that i campaign i focus on those things. You probably watched some of the democratic debate the other night. You want to be the republican that takes on the nominee, still likely to be Hillary Clinton according to polls. How did she look tough to you . Did she look tough . Did she look beatable . She looked beautiful because of the ideas she embrace. She did a good job in the debate for sure. Shes a smart person, no doubt about, that but every chance she had to lay out a different approach than the one were on now she actually doubled or tripled down on it, more taxes, more regulation, more creating barriers on peoples ability to rise up. I think this will be a stark contrast. If im elect ed the republican nominee, it will be a stark contrast of do you believe in the countrys future with a hopeful, optimistic message that gives people the capacity to earn success or manage the decline . Im dpit excited about that. Still ahead, trump fires back and more of that Jeb Bush Campaign ad online going after trumps Foreign Policy. Who do you talk to for militaried a advice right now . I watch the shows. I see a lot of great when you watch your show and all the other shows everything kids touch during cold and flu season sticks with them. The gop race for president is getting personal, donald trump calling jeb bush pathetic. Today trump clarified his position but certainly did not back down. Do you blame george w. Bush for 9 11 . Look, look, jeb said we were safe with my brother, we were safe. Well, World Trade Center just fell down. Now, am i trying to blame him . Im not blaming anybody, but the World Trade Center came down so, when he said we were safe, thats not safe. We lost 3,000 people. It was probably the greatest catastrophe ever in this country if you think about it, right . What would you have doenl . Well, i would have been much different, i must tell you. Somebody said it wouldnt have been any different. It would have been. I am extremely tough on illegal immigration. Im extremely tough on people coming into this country. I believe that if i were running things i doubt those families i doubt those people whoufb in the country. So there is a good chance that those people would not have been in our country. With that being said, im not blaming george bush, but i dont want jeb bush to say my brother kept us safe, because september 11th was one of the worst days in the history of this country. Joining me is a am goodman, a republican strategist. Full disclosure, jeb bush has been one of your clients. Right . Right. Fully disclosed. And bush has in the past responded to attacks. But now would you agree that were starting to see maybe a more aggressive jeb bush as it pertains to responding to trump . Great question. Its very clear to all of us who have known jeb through the years and seen what he did in florida that he has the background, the brain, and the experience and actually the maturity as well to get things done. What he now needs to show in a race that completely changed in the last couple months and to one thats burning the anger, anxiety, and impatience of people is not only whether or not jeb can take a punch but deliver a punch. This is one of his attempts to do just that, and i think he has to do more of that to be able to show not only he can go toe to toe with donald trump but toe to toe with anybody to get the job done for america. Do you worry that doing more of that might also kind of lure jeb bush into a territory that hes just not comfortable being in . Well, again, going back to what he did here in florida, he had no problem being a very, very aggressive reformminded governor who knocked a lot of head and got a lot of things done on school reform, shutting down unnecessary spending, trimming the costs of government here. So we know hes got it. And we saw him bring it in a big way here. I just think, though, this particular stage has changed a bit, and i think what the American Public in a way, fredricka, is waiting for is jeb to instead of just wrapping say donald trump on the knuckles about an offline comment about 9 11, instead of rapping him on the knuckles he should have given him a punch to the jaw and gotten at it. People say is that really in jebs character . Is that president ial . I think at this point in this particular race, where the outsiders its the outsiders versus the insiders, people are waiting to see that kind of passion from jeb that we who know jeb understand and have seen it exist. Well, no change in donald trump, but is his character im excuse using some of the words you used for jeb bush it is hi character to go on twitter and he did again this morning, tweeting this jeb bush should stop trying to defend his brother and focus on his own shortcomings and how to fix them. Also, rubio is hitting him hard. And this tweet, jeb, why did your brother attack and destabilize the middle east by attacking iraq when there were no weapons of mass destruction . Bad info . What would you advise jeb bush right now about, you know, him going on social media or maybe even other candidates going on social media to make their points or engage in arguments . Well, i think when you the question is should he engage in arguments against his fellow contender, what he need to do is engage a public looking for answers about how to change the way things are not happening in government today. If he does that latter well, fredricka, i think hes going to wear well over the course of a very Long Campaign where i dont know about you but i think were all somewhat fatigued already by everything thats come at us so early. So regardless of the polls, regardless of the conversations, the Reality Television were seeing played out, at the end of the day, jebs best case to the American Public is been there, done it, not as a goalong, getalong kind of insider but as someone that dramatically challenged the system. Now, whether or not thats going to work in this particular cycle, where the more visceral nature of politics is in full display is yet to be seen. Adam, did you get a chance to see that ad that the Bush Campaign has released online, kind of poking fun at trump and Foreign Policy . So youre nodding yes. Do you like the style . Does this show kind of a change in strategy for jeb bush . Does it in any way kind of knock, you know, donald trump off his feet . First of all you know im an ad maker so i love ads. The more the better pip think this is a strategic tack by jebs campaign to engage, and i think, again, as i said before, this is something that you may say the jury is out on in terms of the way that theyve kungted the campaign so far. They need to show that. Im confident they can. If he can clear that hurdle, fredricka, if he can get over that hurdle of engagement, then i think the field which ultimately is going to win know comes down to a choice among a few stalwarts, survivors well call them. I think jeb could be right there at the end. But right now the test is does he have it to go toe to toe with a donald trump when trump goes beyond the lines . Isnt it funny, adam, too, that by this point we may have all but inundated with a lot of ad, we havent seen that on either side, but i wonder if this recent ad, this new ad online might kind of open the door that candidates might say, oh, yeah, and then theres the ad campaign, maybe we should start doing that. Going to be interesting whats around the corner. All right. Adam goodman, good to see you. Thanks so much. Appreciate it. Thanks, fredricka. Overseas, a new attack in israel. Authorities also said one of the suspected attackers was killed and another apprehended. This follows five separate knife attacks this weekend in jerusalem and the west bank. Meanwhile, the u. S. Is getting more involved. U. S. Secretary of state john kerry is expected to meet both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas later on in the week. Violence has erupted over access to a site considered very holy by muslims and jews. Oren liebermann is there with more on what to expect. Reporter lets talk about the latest attack. There are some questions about what exactly happened in the southern israeli city at the central bus station. Initial reports were that two palestinian attackers entered the central bus station and started shooting and stabbing. As you said, police say at least six have been injured, four of them Police Officers. Police say one israeli was also killed or has also tied. Police say one of the attackers was killed at the scene. But there are now questions about whether there was more than one attacker. Police are investigating whether the second suspect was indeed an attacker or was a bystander. This comes after what was a tensely quiet day in jerusalem in the west bank and in israel. There had been up until this point no attacks throughout, but this changed that. Weve been waiting for the day when the attacks and the violence would end. Fredricka, that day, as we have found out, is not going to be today. And what about security measures . What more can be done to prevent Something Like this or see it before it happens . Well, i think a lot of the fear on the streets and that sense of tension and putting everybody on edge is because these attacks are viewed as so unpredictable and uncoordinated pap lot of them have been described as lone wolf attacks. In response, israel has put in place very heightened security measures especially in and around the old city of jerusalem and especially in palestinian East Jerusalem blocking road, putting in checkpoints, checking palestinian i. D. S, forcing palestinians to raise their shirts and show the bottom of their legs to show theyre not carrying weapons. Israel says these are necessary for security reasons after a number of attacks in recent weeks, those attacks pushing into the third week. Palestinians say all these checks are dehumanizing and the latest example weve seen of these security measures is essentially what looks like a big concrete barrier between put up between a palestinian neighborhood and a jewish neighborhood in East Jerusalem, police say to prevent molotov cocktails being thrown. Palestinians saying its too much force. Theres a lot of u. S. Leadership in the region. New york mayor being in israel as is the chairman of the joint chiefs. I mentioned secretary kerry to meet with abbas and netanyahu. How does this all come together . Reporter well, i think theres a sense in the International Community that it will take more than just israelis and palestinians here and the politicians here to restore some sense of calm and some sense of orlandoer. America and secretary of state kerry very much trying to get involved, speaking with israeli Prime Minister netanyahu, palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and even king abdullah, the king of jordan, to create some sort of dialogue or manufacture some sort of agreement not necessarily to instantly create a twostate solution or find peace but to at least create some sort of progress that could ease the tension and restore some sense of calm here. All right. Oren liebermann, thanks so much, from jerusalem. Still ahead, the race for the white house. Hillary clinton will testify thur to the House Committee investigating the 2012 benghazi attacks which left four americans dead. But the committee itself has come under fire accused of being partisan and targeting clinton. Just last week, a House Republican who was not on the committee, Richard Hanna of new york, said, quote, a big part of the benghazi investigation was set up to go after clinton. But today the chairman of the Benghazi Committee fired back at the critics saying they, quote, dont have any idea what the facts are, enquote. Representative trey gowdy of South Carolina says his committee is only interested in clinton as a witness because she was secretary of state when the attacks happened. What i want to know is while violence was going up in libya, why was our security profile going down . It wasnt even staying the same. It was going down. And in the past, john, she has said i had people and processes in place to handle that. Well, you also have people and processes in place to handle drivel that is produced by a guy named sidney blumenthal, but that made it to your inbox. I want to know why serp things made it to your inbox, madam secretary, but the plaintiff pleadings of our own ambassador that you put in place for more security never bothered to make it to your inbox. I think thats a fair question. Representative gowdy also revealed hi committee has an email trail from ambassador chris stephens. What is it likely to show . Vens. What is it likely to show . Gowdy says the emails will demonstrate stevens had been asking for more security since he became ambassador. Gowdy say the stevens emails show a disconnect between what was happening on the ground in libya and what was going on in washington. Gowdy se stevens wanted more security in response to the growing violence and washington wanted help with how to spin the increasing violence there. The emails havent been released, but heres how gowdy described them, fred. He needed help with security, john, not pr. He was asking for more security. On one occasion he even joked in an email maybe we should ask another government to pay for our security upgrades because our government isnt willing to do it. So despite previous investigations into benghazi, gowdy says his committee was first get the stevens email and that was the fact he used to buttress his claim that the committees work isnt political, fred. And so this response that gowdy gave, you know, about the criticism of the committee is a political witchhunt. How much further was he willing to take it, responding to those charges . Well, ill tell you, he didnt mince words on this one, fred. He was taking aim at his own Republican House colleagues. Those are the same people who suggested the committee was designed to politically damage Hillary Clinton. Heres how he took a shot at his very own colleagues. I have told my own republican colleagues and friends, shut up talking about things that you dont know anything about. And unless youre on the committee, you have no idea what weve done, why weve done it, and what new facts we have found. We have found new facts, john, that have absolutely nothing to do with her. So tough words for his own republican colleagues there and for pretty good reason. Clinton and other democrats, theyve used gowdys colleagues word against him. Kevin mccarthy, the number two republican in the house, said the committees work helped drive down clintons poll numbers. Last week another republican not on the Committee Said the committee was designed to go after clinton. Clinton has used those comments to discount all the committees work arguing the panel is an arm of the Republican National committee. Gowdy was trying to return it to benghazi and away from the campaign trail. Thanks so much. Appreciate that. Meantime, mitt romney hopes that paul ryan if he were to become speaker of the house. His comments coming today in an exclusive interview on state of the union with jake tapper. Are you afraid that donald trump will not be able to beat Hillary Clinton . Well, i dont think its likely that donald trump will be the nominee, but its obviously too early to tell. At this stage, numbers go up and down, candidates have bursts of support. Donald trump hassed a a lot of support for a long time, so i think a lot of folks this this could go a lot further than people expected. I cant predict who its going to be, but i can predict well have a nominee that will be a stronger nominee both on the basis of character and on the basis of track record than Hillary Clinton. You would vote for donald trump over Hillary Clinton, then. I would vote for the nominee of the republican party, and i dont believe thats going to be donald trump. I know you havent endorsed, but there are a lot of republican and democratic strategist who is think that rubio at the end of the day is the strongest candidate to take on Hillary Clinton in terms of both his raw political talent and his demographic appeal. Plus of course the generational appeal. Do you agree . Well, i think theres some very positive attributes associated with a number of people that are running for president. Marco is very compelling but look at chris christie. This is a guy whos taken on some really tough situations in new jersey. Hes a great debater. He speaks his mind clearly and forcefully. Look, he could be a very strong nominee. Jeb bush as well has an extraordinary record as the governor of florida, an education governor, a guy whos made a difference there and across the country. He could be a very strong nominee. John kasich, hes done a terrific job in the state of ohio, rebuilt the economy there. Youve got four right there that are amazing individuals. And of course Carly Fiorina has risen dramatically. So we have some good folks. What about ben carson . Excuse me. Ben carson i dont know as well, but hes obviously a very gentle and sweet soul who speaks hi mind. And i think people are very drawn to somebody who is so willing to express his views as he is. This week you said that youd like to see your former running mate, congressman paul ryan of wisconsin, to one day be president. Does that ambition that you have for him make you think that speaker of the house would not be a good job for him to take . Well, you know, its really a tough decision for him, and im sure a personal decision. From my own standpoint, i see paul as one of the people coming along that has the potential to lead our country. And if you became speaker of the house in the near term, thats also a crucial role. We need paul in two spots at once, and, you know, there havent been a lot of people that have phenomenon on from speaker to the white house so id hate to lose him as a potential contender down the road for the white house, but he is a man of such talent and such integrity and such character that hes a real resource for the country. So whether its now for the speakership or whether instead we see him hold on and ultimately become potentially a candidate for president , i dont know. Thats his decision. But im just glad to know him and to know that we have him in our quiver. As it pertains to the overall picture of the race for the white house, mitt romney went on to emphasize that republicans and democrats need to find Common Ground in order to get things done in washington. And he believes paul ryan, one more time, would do that as house speaker. Well be right back. Im caridee. Ive had moderate to Severe Plaque Psoriasis most of my life. Astronomers recently discovered a distant star that flickers in a very unusual way. And some say that could be a sign that there is life beyond our planet. Cnn digitals rachel crane has more. Reporter astronomers have discovered a distant star with an unusual flickering pattern. It may even be stranger than we think. It could be signs of an alian civilization. The discovery was made by a group of amateur astronomers from a group called planet hunters. Members of the program are citizen scientists who comb through public data from nasas kepler telescope. The volunteer scientists examine records from about 150,000 stars beyond the solar system. Usually theyre looking for new planets, but this time they stumbled upon a distant and very bizarre star, different from anything astronomers have ever seen before. Between the cignus and lyra, the star called 8462852 has a strange flickering about it. Which means every few years something makes the star drastically dim and then brighten. But what is it . It could be a natural occurrence, but some are suggesting that the unusual light pattern could be the result of extraterrestrial activity and it could be the sign of a massive alyaen structure. It wasnt a mistake with the telescope. Scientists have confirmed that the data is accurate. The university of california berkeley seti group, which stands for search for extraterrestrial intelligence, is now on the case and is asking for more telescopes to scan the area and search itquencie frequencies. Right now scientists are examining several causes but theyve not ruled out the possibility of alien activity. Whoa, food for thought. Got us all thinking. Rachel crane thank you so much. I might actually be a few points higher now. Im so lucky i have my comedy family. When this happened, i knew they would all be there to support me. And i already knew how much they cared about me from a very special episode of 30 rock where my character tracy jordan almost died. Take a look at this episode from 2012. It was prophetic. See .
