At a cnn town hall all three gop candidates backed away from their pledge of supports to the partys eventual nominee. This newest assault on gop loyalty. The latest land mine on the road to the convention. But Donald Trumps allegiance unwavering to his embattled Campaign Manager, cory luns douns. He faces a simple assault charge for supposedly man handling a woman reporter. Trump mocking the womans claims. And by the way, she was grabbing me. Am i supposed to press charges against her . Anderson my arm is just killing me its never been the same. You suggested you might. Excuse me. Excuse me. I didnt suggest. No i tweeted. Tweet is a suggestion. Should i press charges . Right. I dont know. Are you going to. I dont know. Maybe i should. First that cantankerous town hall. Dana bash live in milwaukee to tell us all about it. It sure was. And i remember about six months ago being in trump tower because Reince Priebus, the Republican Party chair came to new york personally to ask and convince donald trump to sign pledge just like all of the other candidates at the time did in order to promise to stay in the Republican Party and not run as the Third Party Candidate. Now fast forward to three candidates in the race and Donald Trumps opponents are the ones who arent so sure they can support him. Things have gotten so ugly all three remaining republican candidates went back on promises to support the party nominee. Do you continue to pledge whoever the republican nominee is . No i dont nim. You dont. No. Reporter that after ted cruz refused the back trump despite being asked three times. Im not in the habit of supporting someone who attacks my wife and attacks my family. Reporter trump said he understands. I dont want his support. I dont need his support. I want him to be comfortable. And then renewed a warning to party leaders. I have been treated very unfairly. Look, i won the state of missouri [ awes ] awe. True cruz people. Ive been treated very unfairly. Unfairly by who . I think by basically the rnc, the Republican Party t establishment. John kasich went so far to say he never should have made the pledge in the first place. If the nominee is somebody i think is really hurting the country and dividing the country, i cant stand behind them. Donald trump came to cnns town hall eager to defend his Campaign Manager, charged earlier in the day with simple battery against a reporter. Based on what i heard, i dont think he really even knew who she was. On another issue he calls a distraction, the ugly back and forth about their wive, trump was vintage trump. I didnt start it. That is the argument of a fiveyearold. No its not. The argument of a five you would say that. Thats the problem with our country. Every parent has a fiveyearold who says that. No. Thats the problem. Exactly that thinking is the problem this country has. I did not start this. Cruz once again denied knowing anything about the antitrump super pac ad featuring Melania Trump and doubled down on blaming trump for planting a tabloid report of accusing cruz of infidelity. The National Inquirer in its history in never endorsed squl this week trump rattled World Leaders by suggesting a nuclear asia may be okay. At cnns town hall he went further. Can i be honest the request you. Maybe it is going to be time to change. So many people. Pakistan, china has it. At some point we have to say, you know, what . Were better off in japan protects itself against this maniac in north korea. Cruz defends his own National Security idea, to patrol muslim communities in the u. S. Listen, if you want to stop radical islamic terrorism, the answer isnt to go hang out in random neighborhoods. It is instead to focus on communities where radicalization is a risk. Later kasich called that ridiculous. In we polarize the entire Muslim Community how where he going to get the information we want . What may have been the most revealing moment of the night were semiingly simple questions the candidates had trouble answers. What would you regard as your greatest personal failure and what did you learn from it . You know, those are always whether in Political Campaign or a job interview, those are always tricky questions. When was the last time you actually apologized for something. Oh wow. And carol, he eventually thought of one other, which is that he has apologized to his wife for not acting president ial enough here on the campaign trail. Now all of this is going to make for yet another and very important primary day right here in wisconsin on tuesday. Carol. Dana bash, thanks so much. Reporting live for us this morning. Voters actually watched the Republican Party fracture in real time last night. There is no more loyalty and no love lost. Ive been disturbed by some of the things ive seen. And i have to think about what my word and endorsement would mean in a president ial campaign. So i want to see how this finishes out. And do you know what . I want to tell you, i think the little engine that can keeps going. I sure hope they will endorse me for president when im the nominee coming out of the convention in cleveland. Hows that . Is that a good answer . I dont know. Essentially you are saying it is in the balance. You are kind of waiting and seeing. I would say that would be a good way to describe it. If the nominee is somebody that i think is really hurting the country and dividing the country, i cant stand behind them. But we have a ways to go. Lets see how this all 230e8ds out. Im not in the habit of supporting someone who attacks my wife and family. I think that is going beyond the line. I think our wives, i think our kids should be off limits. I just have to follow up. If donald trump is the gop nominee. Would you support him . Let me tell you my solution to that. [ laughter ] donald is not going to be the gop nominee. Were going to beat him. Will you continue to pledge no. I dont anymore. Well see who it is. The pledge you [ inaudible ]. Republican nominee. I have been treated very unfairly. I won the state of missouri. No i have. True cruz people. Ive been treated very unfairly. Unfairly by who . I think by basically the rnc, the Republican Party, the establishment. As republican pollster put it that sound you just heard is rnc Reince Priebus having a heart attack. If trump turns on the gop, the gop is dead. This is what lunts means by that. The Republican National committee has a pledge of their own. A vow to provide Institutional Support to the eventual nominee. But how can it possibly do that now . So lets talk about that. Im joined by a senior Political Writer its buzz feed news and author of the wilderness about the republican struggle to win the white house after 2012. And conservative talk radio host john phillips, and cnn political analyst and columnist for bloomburg, josh rogan. This party is going to support the nominee, whoever that is, 100 . There is no question about that. So is Reince Priebus now having a heart attack . I dont know about his cardiac condition but i will say that i think when Reince Priebus appeared with donald trump at trump tower last year and kind of make a grand ceremony of trump signing this pledge to support the eventual nominee. No one including anyone at the rnc actually expected that trump would be perform as well. No one really expected him to be the nominee. I think what you have seen though is that trump over the past nine months has repeatedly changed his mind on this issue of whether hell support the eventual nominee. And while hes made this threat and its certainly frightened Reince Priebus and republicans in the beginning, a lot of gop figures are now actually talking openingly about running their own Third Party Ticket if trump is the nominee. Highlights just how fractured the party has become. Donald trump says he wont support cruz or kasich because hes been treated unfairly by the Republican Party. How . Well i think donald typically has pretty good instincts when it comes to matters like this. But i think hes wrong on this. I think he shouf said ill get behind the nominee because lets face it, neither one of them has any chance of being the nominee. Either two things are going to happen. Either donald trump is going to secure the delegates he needs to be the nominee or were going to be at a brokered convention in which case they drop ted cruz like a bad habit. The establishment doesnt like ted cruz. It is a marriage of convenience. Can you imagine ted cruz running around the country campaigning with people like Lindsey Graham . It is going to make the Michael Jackson Lisa Marie Presley marriage photos look authentic. I think it is zero risk for donald trump. He should have just gone ahead and done it. Okay. So josh. Republicans say the gop will fracture if the candidates dont support the nominee. In other words, if there is no support, doesnt that essentially prove that ideological conservative, nationalists and moderates cannot exist together in the Republican Party . Well it what its shown is that fracture has already happened and thats been going on behind the scenes for weeks if not months. What we saw is a public acknowledgment of the split thats already taken place. And when donald trump is crying foul, hes pointing to the effort by everyone to peel off delega delegates and prevent him from getting to 1237. And hes behind that now and preparing to argue. And more all of the other candidates this is just a game and they are prepared to use any rule to stack delegate, the rules committee. To make sure donald trump is not the nominee. And that is the fight that is coming. But the fracture is well sewed. Oh it certainly is. So mckay, doesnt the rejection of this loyalty pledge though guarantee a Third Party Candidate will enter the race at some point . It certainly suggests the probably is high. You already see talk among republican establishment figures, people like bill crystal circulating millimete i Third Party Ticket might work. I think this is one of the Amazing Things about this contested convention we are headed for. If that happens we will see a situation where no matter the outcome, whether trump wins or is robbed of the nomination, you will see a significant revolt among a large swath of republican primary voters. And i think a lot of people in the party whether pro or antitrump believe that to be the case and at that point will not be worried so much about the general election in 2016, they will be worried ant the soul of the party. Lets talk about that john. There are some who say the Republican Party will be destroyed thanks to a petty personal feud between two men fighting over their wives. How can you say that is not true . Look, i think at this point it is bar talk. Everyone is posturing because everyone thinks that they are going to be the nominee. And if you say you are going to get behind trump at the convention now, then that gives you less leverage if you try to negotiate for something at the convention. The reality is that donald trump is the leader. Donald trump has more delegates than the rest of them. And if donald trump wins the nomination hes going to essentially have control over the rnc. They are all going the need things from him and i think they will kiss and make up. What is the saying . In the prime are you you fall in love in the general you fall in line. I dont think that is the case. I dont see donald trump kissing and making up with anyone. Can you . There will be a huge part of the party that will be irreconcilable. And their strategy is to get to that contested convention, have the first vote which is going to be only cruz and trump. If neither get to 1237, it is an open field. Anyone could be nominated. And the more you get into the later votes the more chaotic it gets. And that is their strategy for stopping trump. That is what they are doing. The damage to the Republican Party is done. What ner trying to do is minimize the damage and stop trump. Its not clear whos going to win. Thanks to all of you. Still to come the video is out. Mr. Trump says his aide was simply trying to protect him from what could have been a major security threat. She was grabbing me. Am i supposed to press charges. You have suggested you might. She had a pen in hair hand which secret service is not liking because they dont know what it is. Trump also questioning bruises Michelle Fields says were left behind when Cory Lewandowski grabbed her arm. Can we just dispense with the pen thing . Im a reporter i carry a pen. They are not band at political events. The secret Service Allows us to have writing instruments so we can take notes. The reason it couldnt have been a bomb is because you do o go through metal detecters at events like this and this is happening at one of his builds, maralag maralago. Initially nothing happened. And there was no Cory Lewandowski said he thought she was an attention seeker. Now that there is this new video hes changing his story and focusing on her as a possible threat. We also heard from lewandowskis lawyer on the today show. He said fields changed her story. Initially she suggested she was almost yanked to the ground and now shes not saying that. It certainly doesnt look like the description that she had, where she almost fell, that she was yanked. 9 doesnt look anything like that in real time. It does look like there was contact. Now you have to figure whether or not that was defensible contact. I certainly see that she didnt almost lose her balance. When you watch in realty, literally it is a half a second. It is an incident that i dont believe cory thought was anything. I dont think anyone that was present thought f was anything. There were police on the scene she never reported to or said hey this is what happened. There is a lot of things i think are in dispute here. There definitely are a lot of things. Keep in mind she didnt go to the police for three days after. It seemed at first all she wanted was an apology. When that didnt come, that is when she went to the police and the police investigated. She has tweeted about this just once. Her only comment, says seriously, just stop lying. Carol, i think this is a case of two realities. Depending on what you want to believe. You can believe the story, the videotaped every day or Donald Trumps campaign has effectively presented an entirely different reality. Websites sympathetic to him have also supported him in that. So really it is unfortunate choose your own adventure situation here. Lets talk about Michelle Fields for a second. She had to quit her job. Shes currently up employed. She felt they didnt support her so she left. Shes lost her job. Had to resign. And im sure gets trolled a lot on social media. It is disgusting to see the comments coming about her. I havent seen her. She was briefly booked on fox and then decided not to appear. So she is laying low and it is horrifying to see some of the comments about her regardless of what you think happened. With me now to talk more about the video is forensic video analyst and Surveillance Video expert grant fredricks. A contract instructor at the fbi academy at quantico. Thank you sir for being here. I listened to mr. Trumps lawyer this morning on the today show. He says this video is inconclusive. Is he right . No. No hes not right. The video is conclusive. It is pretty obvious that there was force applied to the woman. By mr. Lewandowski. It all depends on how how much force was applied. If they look at this in court and decide that enough force was applied to cause injure, then he could have some jeopardy. So you say there is evidence that gives credence to Michelle Fields allegation that she almost fell because of the force with which mr. Lewandowski grabbed her arm. Were going to put up a small piece of the video here. And you can see that happening. From what you can see from this video, what indicates to you that she could have almost fallen when he grabbed her arm . Well i didnt say she almost fell. What is very clear in the video, there is at least two angles that ive seen. And when you align the two angles together, even though they are at different frame rates you can see mr. Lewandowski reaches forward with his left hand. He makes contact with her. She does appear to lose balance because we can see her right leg go backwards and over her left leg. So shes crossing take the banner out please. Go ahead. Talk about her leg again. Her Left Shoulder comes up. As her she is pulled backwards. Shes Going Forward with mr. Trump. As mr. Lewandowski reaches for she suddenly stopped her forward progression, in fact moves backward. And right leg crosses over, the Left Shoulder comes up. The creases on her coat moves up. Her hair moves in a fast motion. From from the other angle we can see that mr. Lewandowski moves his right hand forward and continues moving past the woman as she continues going backward. As far as how much force was applied and whether she lost balance or felt she lost balance is really up to her to say. The video cant say whether or not she lost balance. The video can only support there was contact. Contact enough that changed her forward momentum. If that force was enough to cause injury, then that is another level up that a court would look at. From what you can see on the video could could lewandowskis grab have caused bruise snsz. Again, that is not something a video analyst can say. A video analyst can assist in saying here is the movement of the 3w0ds. Here the point of contact. It is in the area of her left arm. So if she says those bruises were caused at that moment in time and the injuries were more than transient. In other words it wasnt just redness that went away right away. That shes going to be the witness that says the force was applied to her arm in that area and that is the nature of the injuries. The video and she also has an eye witness from the washington post. Right . Who says that mr. Lewandowski did grab her arm with some force. I want to get to this picture too. Mr. Trump said mr. Lewandowski reached out to stop mrs. Fields because it appeared she was threatening him. I want to show two images from that video. Put them up there now, please. You are going to see Michelle Fields. And shes actually mr. Trump tweeted these image bus the images are from the video. You can see the pen in ms. Fields hand. There is a secret Service Agent directly behind him. Does it appear to you that she was threatening mr. Trump in anyway . Well again, as far as i dont know what was being said but she didnt make any contact with mr. Trump. Her other hand is visible in the image immediately before the one he tweeted. Her hands are not near him. Mr. Lewandowski goes between the secret service man and reaches between him on two occasions. As hes reaching forward he turns to the witness. And then he reaches forward and again and pulls the woman back. And whats interesting about this and what would be relevant in court is that as soon as mr. Lewandowski made contact, the witness makes an action. He moves forward and confronts mr. Lewandowski. So this isnt something the witness came forward later and said i saw and did nothing. He actually intervened immediately. Which is something thats relevant in court. Thanks for your insight. Investigators have recovered computers, cell phones and now are looking at what kind of information that could hold about any additional plots that this cell could have been planning on carrying out. What were learning about one of the computers is that it had pictures of the prime ministers office, plans for that building and for other government buildings. Very alarming to investigators. Certainly seems to suggest this cell was looking at additional targets throughout the city of brussels. We flknow belgian authorities he been looking at the devices and the fbi is also assisting. Some of the material has been shipped to the u. S. Where investigators are taking a look specifically trying to access information that belgian authorities were not able to reach on those hard drives. Beyond that, carol, you saw those pictures from inside the airport. This is the first time that we are seeing some of these images of really the horrific devastation that unfolded there a week ago. We are learning from a airport that it could be several months before they are back up and fully running. This is an airport that serviced some 60,000 people a day. They are trying to figure out a way to get it pack open, at least on a temporary basis in a limited way for some passengers but certainly going to take a lot of additional security measures for people to feel safe there again. You have countries in nato, i think 28 country, you have countries in nato getting a free ride. It is unfair. We need to change nato to not just military but intelligence gathering and policing organization that works across boundaries. Trump says nato is obsolete. Is it . Of course it is not. Thats absurd. Nato is actually increasing its relevance today and in fact the pentagon is planning to move in about 250 tanks for the First Time Since the end of the cold war. Is it true that the United States pays much more than other countries . That absolutely is true. And whats happened is nato has a goal, a budgetary goal of 2 of gdp that member nations are supposed to achieve. Very few nations achieve that. Astonia is one of them. And of course astonia is one of the smaller members of nato. But the United States definitely holds the lions share of the Purse Strings for nato. Do you think Donald Trumps speech resonates . Unfortunately, carol, you are absolutely right. They may not even recognize the term anymore. So probably it plays with his constituency. Hes appealing to nationalistic sentiments. He used the phrase last night and also elsewhere, that america cant afford to be the worlds policemen. Weve heard that since vietnam. Actually since korea. It plays well with Many Americans who think the country is getting ripped off, that other nations are relying too heavily on us. The problem is we are the worlds policemen and the world cant do without us. All right. Lets move onto the next topic, which would be nuclear proliferation. Donald trump says that is a top of his concern list. Nuclear proliferation. Yet he said he wanted a Nuclear Armed asia. Listen. Youre worried about he proliferation of the Nuclear Weapons. The most. You also say you might support japan and south Korea Developing Nuclear weapons of their own. North korea has Nuclear Weapons. He doesnt have a carrier but hes got its been a u. S. Policy for decades to prevent it. Well might be a policy. Can i be honest, maybe it is going to have to be time to change. So many people. Pakistan, china has it. So some proliferation is okay . No no. Not some. I hate proliferation. I hate nuclear more than any other colonel. Do you understand what he was trying to say . I think what hes trying to get at is he wants burden sharing and hes also using the nuclear arm structure in a way to spread the wealth or the burden in this case of the nuclear umbrella. The historic part of this is the japanese has a nowar constitution. And in that constitution and in subsequent policy, they actually are prohibited from acquiring Nuclear Weapons. And that is part of the u. S. s guarantee to other nations in asia that there will be no Japanese Aggression like we saw in world war ii. Same thing holds true for south korea. We dont want them to have Nuclear Weapons either. Because we deem that to be too dangerous. Now times have changed. Donald trump is absolutely right about that. But the issue here is do we want to proliferate on a side that we like . Or do we want there to be a regime of nuclear control that may be effective or more effective than weve had in the passed. Larry it seems to fit into Donald Trumps narrative. So we dont want to be the poli policemen of the world. So just arm our allies and they can take care of it themselves. Yes. I have no doubt that it appeals to millions of his backers. I think it is fair to say though that donald trump is not an expert in nuclear non proliferation. And in fact what hes advocating actually revokes the views and the policies of president s going back to harry truman, Dwight Eisenhower and john f kennedy. The Clinton Campaign already looking beyond because they know Bernie Sanders has a lot of strength there. The interesting trump ad you just played. Were going to hear secretary clinton repeat that message about donald trump. And shes trying to galvanize strength among democrats. Showing voters here and elsewhere that shes the strongest candidate to take on donald trump. But the Sanders Campaign believes shes getting ahead of herself. And Bernie Sanders yesterday in wisconsin speaking to erin burnett made the case for why hes the stronger candidate. There are huge issues facing this country. Our middle class is disappearing. Grotesque levels of income and wealth inequality. A Campaign Finance system that is corrupt and a broken criminal justice system. And in in new york state there are additional problems. But carol, the reality is it is going to be very hard for them to not debate. There is already an online petition the Sanders Campaign is urging people to sign and encourage people to do it. So of course shes done well in the debate so no reason to think she wouldnt in this one as well. For the next week eyes on wisconsin wisconsin and then full eyes on the new york city. Immigration policy hit home in wisconsin last night as two Dairy Farmers pressed the candidates for answers on how they could keep their farms running amid campaign threats to deport undocumented immigrants. Our number one economic driver, which is the dairy industry and cheese industry right behind it, is being challenged right now by having a labor force that is dependent on an immigration policy. Most farms in the dairy industry cannot find americanborn workers to milk the cows and take care of them. The only ones willing to do this hard work are latino immigrants. All right. So how did the candidates answer . Christine romans is here with more on that. I talked to an apple farmer in upstate new york. He worries about the same thing. He cant get American Workers to pick apples. Across the country, this is an issue, which is why so many people in the farming industry, people would allow a system that provides them with a flow of legal labor here. Heres what the candidates talked about here. Ted cruz talked about raising minimum wage. Raise wages and then more americans millions of americans out of the labor market he wants the farmers to pay more to hire americans . Make tougher wage laws and among other things youll attract more labor. What donald trump said, he didnt really focus on the big deportation. He talked about growing business in general and he pivoted quickly to trade. He wants to fix trade. He wants america to be better at trade so that our businesses are growing and our workers can be paid more and so thats where they went to on this. Immigration is hard for these republican candidates because you know what is really fueling so much of the energy in the campaign right now when you talk you look at some of these new voters donticoming iy want to see these candidates get tough on immigration and they dont want to see American Workers not have job and all of these immigrants have jobs. We talked about factory jobs, too. The core at all of this, carol, is this selfsays esteem problem in american jobs. Manufacturing jobs have gone down significantly since 1980. Basically what ted cruz would like to do, he would like to see he would like to see education, retraining, vocational training. Ive been disturbed by what i have seen and i have to think about what my word and endorsement would mean in a preside president ial campaign. I want to see how this thing finishes out. I tell you, the little engine that can keeps going. I sure hope theyll endorse me for president when im the nominee coming out of the convention in cleveland. I would be remiss not to follow up. Essentially youre saying its in the balance. Youre kind of waiting and seeing . Well, i would say that that would be a good way to describe it. He was first up with anderson last night. Anderson asked him not once, not twice, but three times to stand by his pledge to support donald trump if trump was the nominee and he wouldnt go there and that started the ball rolling. Trump heard, that he came out and thats why he didnt go there. But john kasich even who is a party guy through and through was even talking about the tone and ten nor of the campaign. The reason its a big deal, the pledge is not a willynilly thing. Six months ago, the rnc chair of the Republican Party was so worried that donald trump was going to bolt from the party, run an independent bid and hurt a potential republican candidate that he made every candidate sign a pledge and Reince Priebus went to trump tower to personally Ask Donald Trump to do so. So that is why this is kind of so incredible. Now, having said all that, well see what happens when the voting is done in june, when the actual convention happens to see who it is and how things fall in line. But it just really does show you how frayed the party is. And its not just the party, its also the individual campaigns and the tone and tenor. You mentioned what has been going on with donald trump and his Campaign Manager who was charged in florida yesterday with one count of battery and he is still by his side and donald trump was asked by anderson if hes going to stick with Corey Lewandowski. Heres what happened there. Your Campaign Manager, Corey Lewandowski, charged with simple battery for grabbing a reporter by her arm. Will he continue as your Campaign Manager . Yes, he will. Michelle fields, by the way, is not a baby. In her own words, i was jolted backwards. Shes standing there. Someone had grabbed me tightly by the arm. Tightly. And yanked me down. She wasnt yanked down. She didnt even have an expression. If somebody in this audience gets whacked or hurt, including me, you get hit a little bit, you go wow. Theres no emotion. Okay. Wait a minute. I almost fell to the ground. She didnt almost fall to the ground. He got in the and by the way, she was grabbing me. Am i supposed to press charges against her . Anderson, my arm is hurting me. Its never been the same. So Donald Trumps standing by his man fighting back the way he would if he personally were accused of this. The other two remaining candidates were asked if they would fire Corey Lewandowski. If he was your Campaign Manager, would you ask him to resign . Of course. Look, it shouldnt be complicated that members of the Campaign Staff should not be physically assaulting the press. That shouldnt be a complicated decision. You want to give people the benefit of the doubt but when you see things that are pretty clear, from what i understand, the video is pretty clear, of course i would fire him. Now, in this case, one thing is clear. It is case in point of what donald trump says about his campaign versus others. Those two candidates, john kasich and ted cruz are conventional. They would very clearly get rid of a staffer who was accused of doing what Corey Lewandowski did, not donald trump. This is a perfect example of how unconventional he is in every single way. Carol . All right. Dana bash reporting live for us, thank you. As you heard dana say, the gop is getting crushed by its own weight in the room and that would be donald trump. But the question now become, can it recover in time for the Republican Convention . Lets talk about that. Im joined by National Republican commentator and a Trump Campaign surrogate, Scottie Hughes and ron nehring. Where to start . Why cant donald trump and ted cruz put away the wives thing and talk about real issues, ron . Well, senator cruzes that made very clear that hes entirely focused on the issues in this campaign. Come on, ron. Senator cruz is using this, too. Let me finish. What is this with the interrupting here . Senator cruz has made clear thats what we want to talk about and every opportunity thats what we do. Thats what they are doing in the state of wisconsin and why Governor Walker has endorsed him. What we have here with donald trump and part of the reason why nobody is willing to support him as the republican nominee if he were to become the republican nominee in terms of ted cruz becoming the nominee, of course, is because at the time that that pledge was made, there was an assumption that candidates would act like normal human beings, would act like professionals, would act like people like a person who was worthy of the office of the presidency of the United States. But what we have seen from donald trump is an increasingly erratic candidate who seems to stay up late at night and sent hate tweets to women he doesnt know, including megyn kelly, Carly Fiorina and now heidi cruz which has backfired on him terribly. People are finally seeing the type of person that donald trump is and someone who goes on the attack all of the time, attacks women he doesnt know, seems intimidated by strong women. And seems to have this real obsession with going after senator cruzs wife which is completely inappropriate. Donald trump knows very well what it is that hes doing and, unfortunately, you have some people in the media who play along when donald trump sends a couple of tweets at 11 00, 12 00 at night and the media the following morning says, thats what our talking points are for the following day. We want to focus on the issues of National Security and on these issues because senator cruz is so much better prepared than donald trump is to talk about these issues. But unfortunately, donald trump ron, weve got to get scottie in here. Thank you. Trumps strange attacks on megyn kelly. I dont get that either. So stand up for your candidate. Let me say this. That was a typical cruz response that ron just gave. Hes going to sit there and say that ted cruz rises above the fray and talk about policy and then he goes on this whole monologue about how petty and horrible donald trump is but never gives specific policy points. Thats why we are not getting along, carol, because people are saying one thing. Its like we have this massive passive Aggressive Campaign going from the Cruz Campaign right now. Were not going to sit here and go negative and, yeah, were going to sit here and slam donald trump for whats going on with his campaign. Yesterday, ted cruz, who i respect immensely. However, he said this shows the type of atmosphere that the Trump Campaign is creating, that was a passive aggressive move and a typical politicians move. When it comes to the ballot, you can either vote for a typical lawyeresque politician which has gotten us into the trouble that we are in today or get a businessman who tells it like it is and at least you have something that people dont have much in politicians anymore. Its called trust in the truth in what they are saying. Both of you have had your say now. I just want to make the conversation a little bigger than just the two candidates, ron. What do you think that this campaign on the republican side because its gotten so very nasty, what affect ultimately will it have on the Republican Party . Thats a good question. I was on the chair of the california Republican Party for five years and it was my job to make sure the job could rally together behind our nominee. Whats unique and different about this campaign is when one particular candidate, whose name rhymes with donald trump in this campaign, makes everything so personal and resorts to petty insults all of the time about anybody who might disagree with him at any point in time, it makes it much harder for the party to be able to come back together because hes made it so intensely personal. And thats rare. Primary contests often get nasty but never have we seen a National Election and the parties really are defined nationally where a leading president ial candidate resorts to such personal attacks on the spouse of an opponent. In this case, heidi cruz that started with you know, here we go again with what Anderson Cooper said is the response of a 5yearold. The trump know that is not the case, that he started it. Thats not the point. It makes it much more difficult and its going to be a challenge, thats for sure. Its going to be a challenge during the convention. Thats a lot of peoples fear, right, scottie . So why cant donald trump decrease the personal Anderson Cooper asked if theres anything that he apologized for and he said he apologized to his mom a long time ago for cussing. Why doesnt he be less of a divisive figure and show the country that he can be a uniter like he says he can. Because hes too busy dealing with the attacks from everybody else. You have to admit, donald trump is getting hit from people not only on the other side of the aisle, as Hillary Clinton has launched another antitrump commercial. Shes more concerned about trump right now than she is about bernie which speaks a lot about who they fear the most. And hes also getting hit from the inside from not only conservatives that support ted cruz but kasich, people who have sour grapes because they lost to mr. Trump. Hes getting hit from every direction. Hes having to play defense. If people would just leave him alone, i guarantee thats what was very refreshing about the town hall that we saw last night. He does get into some policy points. He bites back and ultimately, especially among women, he hurts himself. You know, if you look at the latest cnn orc poll, it shows 73 of republican women have an unfavorable view of mr. Trump. I mean, they hit him because it works. They have an unfavorable. That doesnt mean when they go to the ballot box they wont vote against him especially if hes up against Hillary Clinton. I do agree with you, there are some things. Once again, when you look at it and look at how hes promoted women within his organization, the females that are out speaking on his behalf, when you go to his campaign rallies, you see large female crowds. Id almost say 50 50, if not more of a majority of females in his crowds and the pictures are not backing up these words and supposed poll numbers that women dont like him. I might be unfavorable with somebody. That doesnt mean i wont vote for them or i support them or i hate them. Ron, last word. Go for it. Well, i think last night at the town hall we saw a clear difference between senator cruz and donald trump, both on the issues and in terms of the approach that they would take as candidates and to the office of the presidency of the United States. These are serious times. Fortunately, were seeing what donald trump is made of. Thats why his poll numbers in wisconsin are doing so badly and eavesdroppi hes dropping like a stone. Senator cruz is going to be able to bring the Party Together because during the campaign hes not resorted to the type of personal attacks from donald trump. Congratulations. In response to a trump tweet why no one is questioning fields story, shes saying, because my story never changed. Seriously, just stop lying. Its not easy when you have the leading candidate in one of the parties defaming her. But, you know, shes shouldering on, as you would expect someone like michelle to do. I just want to ask you a couple of questions like that and then look at the Bigger Picture. You heard mr. Trump. He said that secret service and Corey Lewandowski thought the pen in Michelle Fields hands could have been a bomb. They didnt know. Your thoughts . I dont want to talk too much about this because i think the process is playing itself out but the other reason is that the Trump Campaign statements are just on fair face ridiculous and hes paying himself with his own words. When this first happened, he told cnn after the debate they held in miami that he talked to the secret service, they dont know what shes talking about. She was never touched. Nothing ever happened. Now all of a sudden he remembers this great threat that was to him. Not only did the secret service not act, he needed his Campaign Manager to act when he was surrounded by secret service. I dont think anyone who is fair minded finds this in any respect plausible. So i hope that he just keeps talking because at this point he looks somewhat ridiculous in his stories. Michelle had to quit her job over this, right . And im sure on social media shes not having a fun time at the moment. Is she staying underground . Well, you know, theres a lot of people that accused her of wanting to do this as the Trump Campaign did for attention seeking. She doesnt like this attention. This is not the type of attention she wants. She is a shell talk when she needs to talk but shes not going to go on every news show that asks her to repeat these stories and fight back. Right now she sees donald trump talking and hurting himself. She doesnt need the spotlight here to get press. Thats not what she wanted. Thats not what she ever wanted. She didnt need this for attention. All right. So a Bigger Picture now, what does this incident say you know, about our political process and how its playing out. I want to show you a video of a trump rally in wisconsin. A 15yearold girl was pepper sprayed by a trump supporter. Theres a Sexual Assault investigation going on right now. What does this all say to you . Well, politics has always been seedy and oftentimes it was away from the campaign, at least theyre was plausible deniability. They dont shy away from this stuff. As you know, there was this kind of insidious allegation i wont mention any names or anything about affairs about the National Enquirer but they tie the campaign to this. Doesnt even have plausible deniability that its not the Trump Campaign pushing it. There are a whole sorts of these incidents. Trump himself called ted cruzs wife ugly. This is actually tied to the Trump Campaign and i think that is a new development. Usually campaigns, if they do these kinds of stuff, its covertly and through second sources that dont really tie themselves to the campaign. Trumps campaign is tied to much of this. So nothing ever seems to affect his popularity among his supporters. Do you think that might change . Youre absolutely right. He called john mccain not a war hero and he only rose in the polls. But i think when you look at wisconsin, you do not see someone in his position as the frontrunner who is it unifying the party as you would expect the party to unify. He might lose wisconsin. This fight seems like its going to go all the way to june 7th and possibly a contested convention. You see some of this stuff and you think that maybe this is preventing trump from breaking out and getting the majority of support in state after state that he needs to win this nomination outright on the first ballot. So maybe as a combination of stories, this may be preventing him from shooting up to where he needs to be to win this nomination outright. Well see what happens in wisconsin, right . His name is Bernie Sanders. This New York Primary race in just about three weeks time, suddenly so competitive. They are putting money behind this ad, a lot of money here in new york because they are trying to show democrats that shes the stronger of the two candidates. Carol, i can tell you, the race at least for the next six days or so is in wisconsin. Thats where Bernie Sanders is campaigning today quite aggressively. He believe thats the state that fits his politics. And interesting, wisconsin has an open primary which means you can vote in the republican or democratic primary. You dont register by a party. And there is some crossover between Bernie Sanders and donald trump. He addressed that headon with cnns erin burnett. People are angry. What trump is doing is taking that anger and saying, its the fault of the mexicans or the fault of the muslims. Weve got to scapegoat people. Beating up on mexicans who make 8 bucks an hour is not going to deal with the issues. Reporter carol, i guess its no surprise that donald trump is front and center in the democratic primary, too. He certainly has been in the republican race. We so far have not heard a response yet from the Trump Campaign to this clinton ad. Im sure thats coming. If the nominee is somebody who i think is really hurting the country and dividing the country, i cant stand behind them. But we have a ways to go. Lets see how this all folds out. Is Reince Priebus having a heart attack this morning . No, i dont think. They said from the very beginning they are going to adhere to party rules. They say you have to get over 50 of the delegates. If you dont, youre going to go to open convention. The delegates are going to decide. And i think to change that, to fix the rules in favor of a candidate, were going to give it to somebody, reince is perfectly fine. He understands what is going on and, look, they are all going to say they are not supporting this pledge or whatever. Were on the the stage of the campaign where we are attacking each others wives, they are not going to support each other. The delegates at the convention, who it looks like will be deciding who the nominee is, they are going to look at a candidate that can bring the whole Party Together to beat Hillary Clinton in the fall and thats one of the things they are going to be looking for. I think all of these candidates are going to jostle but thats where the rnc knows we are headed. Ana, do you agree, that there will be ultimate unity at the convention . Its hard to envision unity right now where it stands and i think its getting harder. This is getting really nasty and personal. Its getting very dirty. I think a lot of followers of his supporters of the different candidates are getting more entrenched in their position and the nastier it becomes, the dirtier it becomes and more difficult it becomes to at one point have unity. Reince priebus is a pragmatic guy. I dont think anybody with a degree of experience or commonsense would be holding their breath as to actually pledge a sign to being honored, god forbid somebody do that. You know, this is getting nasty. This is getting nasty and i think the message out there to the three candidates is, look, folks, lets tone down the rhetoric. At some point we will all have to unite. We all have to come under the same tent or we are going to lose. Those are basically to change the rhetoric, change the tone, he is the clear frontrunner. Its time for him to Start Talking a unifying message, to start giving republicans like me some hope that maybe there is some room under a republican tent if he is the nominee. Right now i dont see it. I dont feel it and it will be very difficult for it come august. Tara, if mr. Trump doesnt become a uniter, is it pretty clear to you at this point that the Republican Party is fractured beyond repair, that moderates and conservatives cannot exist within one party again . I think this is the one time we are seeing that possibility. We are seeing people write different scenarios about this, Trump Supporters who excuse his behavior and positions that are not republican and keep making excuse for him and weve seen no indication of that. None. Every single time hes had an opportunity to step up to the plate and convince people that that was the Hollywood Donald trump or that was an act, i can really be president ial, he doesnt do it. He actually goes to the complete opposite way. Since march 15th, that was supposed to be the final pivot point. People were talking about falling in line. Lets just end it now. Donald trump is going to be the nominee. There was all of this inevitability and look at what has happened since march 15th until now. Donald trump has attacked a candidates spouse. Hes backing up his Campaign Manager and acts like a thug. And riots at events, people getting assaulted at donald trump events. And what has he done . Hes doubled and tripled down and ever steps whatsoever to be the unifier. Now they are actually turning around and blaming Michelle Fields with the Campaign Manager. He did this last night during the town hall where he had an opportunity to shy away from those kinds of things and he didnt do it. He just cannot help himself. I dont see how people who view character, integrity and principle as an important quality for the next president of the United States could ever unify behind Reince Priebus isnt having a heart attack . No. Hes operating a very fair and open process and letting the Voters Decide and then eventually if we dont have over 50 going into the convention, the delegates are going to decide. So hes aware that he knows exactly the job that he has and the job is not always sexy to be the chairman of the rnc and its grinded out work behinds the scenes. But he knows that hes operating a fair and open system and thats what his job is. The delegates are going to make the decision as to who the nominee is. If you go back and look at other open conventions, its been a long time. Someone who can bring the Party Together and win in the fall, if you cant get to 50 and you have to go to an open convention, thats what the delegates are going to do and reinces job is to do that in a fair and open way and hes confident in the team that he has and make sure we have a fair and open and transparent process going into the convention. Donald trump is being very shrewd in setting up the narrative that they are going to steal the steal the narrative. When you play football, if you dont make it past the goal line, you dont get a touchdown if you only make it to the one yard line. And it was a show you could tune in to every week and had continuing characters and, of course, that big question, who shot j. R. It was unbelievable. Everyone wanted to know who shot j. R. You couldnt keep a secret like that, i dont think. Back in the day, it was about the 80s was a whole different time. It was the money, the greed, whatever. It was quite different back then. It was an interesting time. I want to tell you something, im doing a show im playing Tammy Fay Baker also in the 80s but it ties into the whole thing. The money, everybody was just trying to get all of this money and different things. It was quite interesting. I was going to college in the 80s and we all just went to college so we could get a job to make lots and lots of money. We didnt care about anything else. It was a terrible time in that sense. I understand youre a producer of the dallas reunion. That sounds great to me. It was a twohour special for cbs called the return to southpark and i coproduced that and we got the whole dallas cast back together for the first time in 20 years. On television. So, yeah. So when you first like when you were all assembled in one room, did you look at each other and say, wow, its been a lot of years or did you say, oh, we all look great . Well, it just were so close that it really just was like we, you know, never left. We pick up right where we left off and we just its great. We all love each other. We really genuinely do and it shows. I think that was part of the reason of the success of dallas, is our chemistry. Oh, absolutely. And you all really do look great.
