People who are trying within the party to stop donald trump are really all pointing to that convention as the opportunity to do so. A contested convention. So trump has some rationale and merit to his concerns what might happen there but obviously a lot of concern his supporters very passionate and showing up in spades in somewhat troubling moments in chicago. Officials now real concerns not just with the brushback but also with the tone of where this is headed over the next couple of months. After mr. Trump made his riots comment yesterday the Republican National committee tried to tamp down the strong words. Here is a bit of that exchange i had with shawn spicer. I assume hes speaking figuratively. I assume if we go to the convention, whoever gets 1237 delegates becomes the nominee. Plain and simple. Delegates are represent im sorry to interrupt but i dont think mr. Trump was speaking figuratively. I dont think he was. I think he was serious. Then you should ask him carol. Well i appreciate you trying to guess what he was saying. So sean spicer did not like my, you know, my interruption but you can see the rnc is showing little concern things could actually get ugly but what is the reality. Well behind closed doors republican officials were always concerned about the security of a convention. That is just the way things go every four years. But the direction of this campaign has obviously increased that probably tenfold. I think what the rnc and what sean is trying to do there is tamp things down a little bit. Maybe bring rational thought to the direction things are happening and look at this logically. There is a lot of time to play out and a mathematical possibility donald trump would reach the total before they get to cleveland. But behind the scenes if you look at the violence, at the profanity, if you look at the whole direction, Top Republican officials very concerned about where it could be headed and to stop donald trump on a to try convention floor. There has been vients at trump rallies and there is evidence that authorities are not handling it properly. Five sheriffs deputies have been demoted or suspended without pay because of this incident. All of those deputies put on probation for a year. The protesters flips off the crowd before being sucker punched by a man named john mcgraw. The deputies failed to arrest mcgraw after the punch. In fact they did not arrest him until the next day after mcgraw went on inside edition and told the country, quote, the next time see him, the protester, we might have to kill him. So against that backdrop, chaos of a different kind, some conservatives are actively trying to thwart voters wishes by defeating trump on a number of back door ways. The cruz camp is quietly plotting a the battle at the Republican Convention and conservative blogger Eric Erickson is fighting for a Third Party Candidate, calling trump a moral cretan and a gold plated sleaze. Trump hinting of a riot . I guarantee mr. Trump wants no violence. All he wants is peace and he wants the laws to be applied and the rules to be applied. And i this i that is what you are going to see. I happen to agree with sean that it was a figure of peach and all were asking for and i think the Republican Party has a great opportunity right now in fact. There are republicans disenfranchised and angry and upset and they were there way going into the 2016 election and the Republican Party has the chance right now to restore and repair a lot of this lost faith people have in the political process and that this party really does represent the conservative base. And it represents a wide variety of views. But does it in a peaceful fashion. Ben carson seemed to think there would be chaos. Were the most admired democracy in the world. But listen, what is going on here is really concerning for a lot of reasons. First of all, i dont think the American People or the conservatives over 50 to 60 of folks in the Republican Party who are not supporters of donald trump should be forced to have to fall in line with someone they vehemently disagree with in values. Im a conservative. My values as a conservative do not fall in line with what donald trump is doing. Not only idealogically but character and integrity wise. So someone like this whos supposed to be a leader. Supposed to be the next president of the United States is so irresponsible with his words and how he portrays things moving forward using words like oh, trying to pressure people. There could be riots and set things up and people like scotty who yesterday on this channel actually said she didnt have a problem with riots and then had to walk it back because wolf blitzer said wait a minute. You dont really mean riots and then had to do verbal gymnastics to explain it. It is irresponsible language thats gotten us into the situation were in now. And moving forward it is unfair for people to think that we need to just fall in line with someone like donald trump who does not line up with our values. Im a conservative first. And i think there are many people out there who do not feel as though it is fair to have this shoved down but i will say tara. And here is the thing. And scotty you can reply to this. The voters have spoken. Republican voters are voting for donald trump. You cant deny that. I know you are a conservative and you dont like donald trump but you are beaten right now. That is right now. The game isnt over. I when you play football you dont decide in the Fourth Quarter when you still have an entire quarter to play if the opponent is winning to say im walking off now because the game is over. That is not how it works. But just a little bit of history. In 1860 there was a contested convention and the front runner was governor seward of new york and it took four ballots and who won . Ab lraham lincoln who was in thd or fourth at the time. And there were delegates and voting and it was civil. Not like this. People need to understand that no one is stealing votes away from anybody else. This is the process and donald trump doesnt get to change the rules now because he happens to be winning now. Yeah there is definitely going to be a massive gender gap if clinton is running against trump. You have seen donald trump put these divisive monikers on candidates. What is he going do come up with to tag Hillary Clinton and can he do so in a way that is not sexiest and demeaning. There is plenty of fodder. Hillary clinton refuses to release the transcripts. Even progressive darling senator Elizabeth Warren would not give clinton cover. Listen. His stage has raised some questions. Let me ask you this. Do you believe that senator clinton should release the transcript of her speeches to Goldman Sachs . Look, i think that our candidates are out doing what they should do in a primary. They are debating the issues. You are not answering my question, senator. What im doing is im telling you what i think should be going on right now in the primary. Its a yes or no question. Should she release the transcript or not. What i told you is i think the primaries are going exactly what they should be doing and the candidates are being tested. So hillary, if senator warren wanted to give her cover she could have said no. But she didnt do that. Why isnt donald trump going there . Well look, you know there are plenty of ways to try and attack Hillary Clinton. But there are more ways to try and attack donald trump. And if he goes at substance. If he goes at credibility. If he goes at morals and ethics, you know, he has a history of Business Practices that will be significant fodder. And i think at this stage the Clinton Campaign has to be somewhat respectful directly to Bernie Sanders and not only deal with trump. But people have to be ready. Trump is going to have a significant, Aggressive Campaign. And i dont think that claiming sexism is going to be our answer every time. It is not going to work. The people were trying to appeal to arent going to be attracted to that. We already have the people who are most offended by sexist comments. What we need to do is make sure there is a counterambulanbalanc trumps negatives. Elections are about choices and that is why we have to make this choice very clear. It is not a referendum on Hillary Clinton. Everybody knows Hillary Clinton. They know what she stands for. They know what shes fought for her whole career. It might end up being a reverend pem on donald trump but it is clearly a choice. I just want to go back to senator warren for just a second. Shes the only female democratic senator thats not endorsed clinton. She told us she has no time to endorse anyone. So what do you think the hold up is . The hold up is i think Elizabeth Warren feels that Hillary Clinton is too close to wall street and that is something, a feeling that i think Bernie Sanders and a lot of his supporters share. But at the same time you also have a candidate in donald trump who is breaking all of the political rules and who could really scramble the political map. Sea world says it will no longer breed orcas and the current generation of whales swimming in its parks will be the last. The park has been under pressure since 2013. Cnns Martin Savidge has covered whats become really publicity nightmare for sea world but now things are changing. Good morning. Well they are. Good morning carol. This is absolutely astounding news for animal advocation groups. They are thrilled and they are overjoid. This is something they have been fighting sea world for for decades. And so sea world is essentially saying okay we are going to stop breeding these killer whale in captivity. Once you stop the breeding program, then you pretty much have announced that you are ending the whole program of using these animals as displays as using them for entertainment. What they plan to do now is focus more on educating the public and also talking about how these creatures live in the wild until eventually those creatures of course will live out their naturally lives. Sea world put out a statement, sea world has been listening and we are changing. Society is changing and we are changing with it. Sea world is finding new ways to continue to deliver on our purpose to inspire all our guests to take action to protect wild animals and wild places. Now all of this came to a head pretty much with cnns documentary black fish as a result of the airing of that documentary. Sea world saw dramatic decline in the number of people going to its parks. It saw decline in its revenue and most important of all a decline in its stock prices. It got a new ceo a little over a year ago and it appears that these changes are result of this leadership. They were polling people at their parks and they saw that the orca program definitely was a negative in the minds of many of the public, especially children. Well it is very gratifying, what weve been asking for more than two decades. So its great to wake up and find that sea world has become an Animal Welfare organization. Sea world is not going to release its current crop of orcas into the wild. Some way well why not . Well i do think we need to try to push them a little further. Because it is subtle and it is case by case. But there are ways that many, if not all of the captives, even all of the captain borns can be transferred to naturally settings. To sea pens, along coastlines where they can actually feel the natural currents and their own natural habitat that they have evolved for for millions of years. And it will be familiar to them. They will be able to survive in various ways. But they wont be able to go out into the wild ocean and bond with any of the wild whales. So there are big limitations. But they could go a whole lot further. And i would also like to see the organization begin to trend towards real realistic educational displays that are also fantastic and fascinating. It would bring in big revenues. Like what, sir . Well im thinking holograms and Virtual Realities and all kinds of sort of digitally enhanced experiences that attendees could have. The wizards of hollywood can certainly these kind of experiences that could be truly educational, actually place the viewer into the naturally habitats in a wraparond world with sounds and spray and smells and the whole world of being in th the ocean could e replicated in these parks. And i think that would be a beautiful thing. I think it is a fascinating idea. But you know you still have to wonder, sea world, without the whales, without the shows, you know, once once the whales at sea world have right now die right . So its hard to think that sea world will manage to survive after that. Well it is true they will have to completely revamp their business model. And they are doing that. I mean, todays announcement seems to be a sign that they have turned a big corner. And they have begun to bend with the winds that have been blowing them down. They have been breaking for half a dozen years since the whole black fish experience began to come out. And they are going to have to go a little further i think. But, you know, they are going to resurrect their brand and their image and credibility with this announcement today. And i think they could do a whole lot more in years to come. Well see. And this year, there are projections that suggest that there could be more unmarried women voters than married voters. Getting them to the polls is a challenge. Theres all kinds of reasons why single women have trouble voting with the consistency of married women. Theres that sentiment out there that young women are gravitating towards Bernie Sanders. Theyre going to grave tate in enormous numbers to which ever democratic candidate is the nominee. In the early states, single women gravitated hugely to Bernie Sanders than Hillary Clinton. Unmarried him in South Carolina and some of the supertuesday states, especially nonwhite single women have gravitated towards Hillary Clinton. Initially bernie hand the real advantage, i think because he was offering a more aspirationally left vision, and thats something closer to a nordic model of democracy that, could be a good way in which americans are organized. There could be chaos of a different kind at the Republican Convention. Some conservatives are actually trying to thwart voters wishes by attacking his likely democratic competitor Hillary Clinton. Over 50 of the voters would have said they dont want him to the nominee. So i think everyone knows going into the republican primary process that a plurality does not get the nomination. Voters wont understand that, theyll be angry. Some voters might be angry that he didnt get it, a tremendous number, the majority of voters that voted against him, they might be angry. Hillary clinton is now having to bring people together, we have always had a tough battle in the primary, leader who is say, look, im going to bring everybody together. Heres a candidate who says im a negotiator, whos saying i can bring together, this is my job, if youre going to be a leader in the party, youre going to have to show that leadership and you should start acting that way. If im short by a few delegates, im going to make a pitch to those delegates to win them over and get them on my side because i want to lead the party. And it means changing the ways we run campaigns. I should tell you i was involved in one of the early stages of democracy spring, ill tell you where i come from and why im so supportive. You can fell left, right, center, totally dropped out of politics, people saying we arent living in a system where peoples voices are equally heard and, you know, im a big student of the founding generation of the people who wrote our constitution and they would never have designed a system that requires candidates to spend all their time raising money. Heres the thing, Trump Supporters are saying that this protest, this active civil disobedience is really about donald trump, its not really about Campaign Finance or politics or any of that. Last fall when we were talking about it, we were talking about changing the way we fund campaigns. Right now we have a system, i imagine your Congress Members spend 30 to 70 of their time talking to donors, not doing their jobs, and we see the effects, we see the effects in the economy that is basically unequal and doesnt serve people. Donald trump is using hiss own money, Bernie Sanders is getting money from small donors. It does offer some comfort to people concerned about the infwluns of big money, as you just pointed out, bernie and trump not traditional. You cant buy love, thats true. But there is a deeper sense that the system is rigged, its rigged by superpacs, and thats real even if the failure of big money efforts have gone down. Its not that were in an apocalyptic situation. Lets talk about donald trump and his riot comment. Sort of reenforced the notion that if its a contested convention, that there might be violence, we dont know , but there could be, what do you make of that kind of talk . That kind of dog whistle, whether its con shus or unconscious is basically functions as a veiled threat. And our democracy is better than that and so should be the Republican Party. If donald trump is actually going to be the republican nominee, maybe its too much to hope that he start acting president ial. But maybe he could consciously stop trying to divide his own party. The long Disclosure Document which candidates must file. From january 2014, to june of 2015, it shows 1. 4 billion in assets. It was a somewhat infwlated report in the sense that he lists as his assets billions of dollars in good will for the trump name, i dont know what the marketplace pays for that, but that is unusual for those forms. It also includes at least 433 million in income, according to our tally and checked by a third party. But its hard to tell whether that income is actually flowing into his pockets or into his companys coffers. He lists revenues rather than income. He has, for example, his golf courses, golf related revenue, so it makings it a little bit difficult to know, is that just the Gross Revenue of his golf course, or is that actually the income of donald trump after you pay for all the expenses of running the golf course. I think the point is people want honesty, are you really saying what youre really worth and why do you, if there are questions around this why do you have to inflate it . Why is sit important to donald trump to stay that hes worth 10 billion rather than the 4 billi billion that other outlets have estimated.
