Newsroom. And good morning, im Carol Costello. Thank you so much for joining me. In the republican race for president , the strong get stronger. Front runners donald trump and ben carson now control nearly half the gop support. Trump leads carson 27 to 22. All of the other candidates are mired in single digits. This morning trump discussed the possibility of a running mate. Is ben carson is running second at 22 . Could there be any two more different people . How do you explain you both are winning with republicans. We hate corit a cord. And were not as different as people think. But there is certainly a different style. And you know i have some great assets and she has some great assets but we are both resonating. There is no question about it. And nbc just came out with their poll and it is very similar. Im in first place and ben is in second place and i went up a lot and from my original ive gone up a lot. And the other candidates are very similar. So maybe these polls are really starting to accurate out. Can you imagine a trump carson ticket . Well i like him. He likes me. Strangers things have happened. That i can tell you. But it is too early to think about that. It certainly is interesting. So many people have suggested it because we seem to be doing awfully well. Cnns athena jones live in washington with more. Good morning. There is so much to talk about in this poll. Very interesting to hear donald trump say Stranger Things have happened when talk about a trump carson ticket. But the latest numbers are the latest to make all of us in the media sound like a broken record. Trump is on top. Carson is in striking distance. And that is maybe one of the most interesting things shts trumps support is pretty solid. It hasnt changed much. But carson has risen eight points in the last month. And as you mentioned they win a large portion of the vote. And when ask for first and second choice they end up with nearly twothirds soupport. And trump, you have supporters who say we still back him. I believe we have a sound pipe from one supporter. Lets play it. He was in offense when that happened unfortunately. I did support george bush. I am a republican. And i support donald trump. I personally feel like it is fine. Hes a very bold and brash businessman and he brings that to the table as far as his campaign for the white house. And i think it is fine. How do you feel that hes making statements like that . If donald says it, i take it. Thats how much i believe in it. And so those are Trump Supporters saying they dont have an issue with the fact that donald trump is repeatedly bringing up 9 11, even going as far as to suggest that one point george w. Bush is responsible because it happened on his watch. His supporters seem forgiving. A couple of other interesting points in the poll is to see how Carly Fiorina the third candidate who got a lot of attention after her strong debate performances. She slipped down, losing 11 points . Just the last month. Meanwhile bush and rubio, two of the so called establishment candidates are tied for third but look how far behind they are at third. Tied at 8 . So a lot of interesting numbers in this poll. One more thing our poll found i should mention is that 68 of republicans pold said they were either enthusiastic or very enthusiastic about voting for president next year. Led said th were either enthusiastic or very enthusiastic about voting for president next year. That is about 10 points higher than democrats and 75 of Republican Voters say they are satisfied with their choices in this race. Carson and trump on top and people very happy to see it. Very interesting numbers here carol. Athena jones live from washington. Is the joe biden guessing game entering the final hours . Hes appearing at a washington event honoring walter monodale. And likedale. And like new moves may mean the decision is finally imminent. And jim acosta is here with more. Good morning. Vice President Biden is still sounding very serious about the run for the white house. But even his friends inside the Democratic Party are not sure how long he can drag this out. Last night he met with political advis advisors. And seems each day biden sends out another teaser about his intentions. Yesterday he indicated he was running a little behind schedule and here is what he had to say. Im the late joe biden. And i just want you to know as much as i love you, ive been in a meeting with the president on another matter for last two hours. And it is hard to say mr. President you are on your own. Im leaving. Although he is on his own. He doesnt need me. Truer words have not been spoken. But there is also Fresh Information for the Vice President to consider this morning as to why he may not want to run. A new nbc wall street journal poll this morning shows democrats across the country are not so sure the Vice President should jump into this race. Only 30 said yes. 38 no. That is pretty consistent with our cnn poll yesterday. And we talked about this Walter Mondale event about to get started here. Vice president is going to be playing tribute to Walter Mondale who was the Vice President under jimmy carter and went on to lose by a landslide to wonld reagan. So. But keep in mind Vice President s have run for office and won before. Georgia h. W. Bush. Harry truman. Sometimes a good way to become president is being Vice President. But hes honoring Walter Mondale who was not so lucky in 1984. While we wait bidens final de decision lets talk Bernie Sanders. According to the latest poll, only 11 of democratic voters think sanders can actually win the partys nomination. Maybe it is that democratic socialist thing. Clinton pinged sanders on that in the debate. And it is our job to reign in the excesses of capitalism so that it doesnt run amok and doesnt cause the kind of inequities that were seeing in our Economic System. But we would be making a grave mistake to turn our backs on what built the greatest middle class in the history of the world. Perhaps that is why sanders is planning a major speech to explain exactly what democratic socialism is. Lets talk about that and more with sanders senior Media Advisor ted divine. Welcome. Good to be with you. Nice to have you here. When a will senator sanders deliver his speech. Soon. In november. He understands people need to get to know him better. His political philosophy. Bernie has always been very honest. The first time i met him i you are a socialist. He said a democratic socialist. And i think for him it means an Economic System that isnt rigged the way ours is today. A system that distributes wealth and builds a middle class. And i think people will be very interested. They may be interested but i think many are a bit confused. Basiwhen you say democratic socialism it sort of means you give free stuff to everyone. Well, you know, i think that is why its important for him to explain his program. Bernie sanders blooes believes in building a stock middle class. He believes the way we do that is to change an Economic System which today is rigged. This system is rigged to send the wealth to the top. It is held in place of special interests keeping the system in place. He thinks it is time that we have a real debate about what is happening in americas economy. And he looks forward to be able to explain it. Yeah and he talks a lot about den mark. And i wanted to get into that a bit with you. According to the new york times, denmark taxes the living daylights out of citizens. The top rate is 60. 3 . There is a 25 National Sales tax. Denmarks tax take is almost half its national income. Many americans would look at those numbers and kind of freak out. Well i think that, you know, that is why we need to have this debate. If you live in denmark, every person has healthcare as a right. It is not a privilege as given to people who can afford it. In denmark you get two and a half months of paid family medical leave if you need it. There are a lot of systems in place to build the middle class. Listen, denmark is not going to be the model for the United States. This is the biggest economy in the world. The most powerful makes the in the world. But what Bernie Sanders is talking about is looking at other countries like germany, kids dont have to pay to go to Public Colleges and universities. If our kids are going to compete against german kids in the future economy and we put a burden of debt on their shoulders that is unsustainable and germans have no debt we are putting our kids in a very difficult straight to compete in the new economy that is emerging in the century. These are debates that should happen. Bernie has a lot of good ideas about how to make for example College Education universal. He believes we shouldnt stop at High School Like by did a hundred years ago. We need to make Public College and universities College Education universal in america so these kids can kpeescompete. And i think the ideas are really worth looking at for america because the time has come. We look to Bernie Sanders speech some time in november. An israeli killed this morning after being run over by a truck. A mob of palestinians first threw rocks of the vehicle and when he stepped out of his car, they ran him down. The latest deadly attack comes at ban kimoon makes a special visit to the region today, hoping to stem the violence with some sort of political solution. This month alone nine israelis and the 45 talpalestinians have been killed. It is this violence that the group of hackers motivated them to breech the emails of two officials. Brennan and johnson were hacked. This morning were hearing from a Group Calling themselves cwa. They are taking credit. The apparent hackers giving cnn an exclusive phone interview. Reporter it was an interesting phone call to say that. I actually reached out to them on the twitter account that they are allegedly leaking all of this data. And we ended up talking on the phone. And ill say this. They disguised their voice so it sounds very different than what i would imagine they sound like in real life. But they talked to me about how they did this and why. Take a listen. You claim you were able to hack the private email account of the cia director. How did you do that . Well ke [inaudible]. Personal information like name, address, Social Security and other things. If this is true and it is true you have actually broken into his private email account, how difficult would you say it is. You mean out of ten . Sure. A one. A one . Yeah. You say you were able to hack into his personal inbox. What did you find . Social security numbers. Talking about iraq and syria. A lot of private information. [inaudible] what was your motivation for doing this . [ inaudible ]. Can you give us any indication of your background . I mean, how old you are . Are in the United States . Anything you can tell me about yourself. Yeah im the age of [inaudible]. And you smoke pot. All day, every day. So you might have hacked the director of the cia while you were high. Probably. Are you sophisticated hackers. In the middle maybe. Not like stupid but were not really smart. There are a lot of really, really smart people. Do you worry about retribution . [ inaudible ]. You plan to leak more information . Is there any specific target . Yeah the government and the white house people. Theyre losers. Now, carol, sources have confirmed both accounts were hacked but cnn cannot independently verify the leaked documents. I will say this. Covering Cyber Security, talking to very sophisticated hackers quite often, did not get the feeling that these guys were that sophisticated. Which is pretty eye opening if they did in fact get inside the cia directors personal email account. They kept using the term socially engineered. What does that mean . That is the term going hear more and more. Social engineering is basically able to call up verizon and use data about the cia director to prepend to be him. To pretend to get more information about him. Then they were able to call up aol and convince them they were someone they were not so aol would reset the password. It is not having Technical Schools but almost having very good people skills and being able too utilize public data increasingly Available Online and use it for bad causes which is what these guys are doing and what im hearing is happening more and more in the hacker community. And apparently he was high the whole time since he smoked pot every day all day. Have the authorities contacted you about this. I spoke to them yesterday. And they have said that they said that they are hiding. They said they dont believe they are traceable. Right now they havent been contacted the authorities have said they are looking into it. The cia has confirmed they are aware of it and they are looking into it. And i will say this. It is very u very difficult to remain untraceable for a very long time when you do Something Like this, carol. I think you just proved that. Laurie, many things. Donald trump is doubling down on comments about 9 11. Earlier today in ab interview with Cnns Alisyn Camerota trump stood his ground saying bush did not keep the country safe. He also said his immigration policies would have made a difference to the country. How can you say we were safe when we just had the worst attack in the history of our country. You can say yes we did well after. But then we made mistakes there also. We were safe in a sense but we went into iraq which was a disaster decision. Just a disastrous decision. Not afghanistan. Because that is probably where we should have gone in the first place. But iraq was a disastrous decision. So we go into iraq and we make a mistake. And you can also say well is that safe going into iraq when we are losing thousands of soldiers. That is not safe either. But i simply said that you cant say that we were safe he said under my brother we were safe. Well you cant say that. Because we had the worst attack in the history of this country. If you look at what happened, number one, i would have had much stronger immigration policies. Im not saying i would have prevented it but i would have had a chance. Im pretty good at this stuff. But i would have had much stronger immigration policies in effect. If you were president you wouldnt allow student visa. [inaudible] i would have had a much tougher you wouldnt allow those going for. But alisyn, they knew an attack was coming. Georgia tenant the cia director knew in advance there would be an attack. And he said to to the president and he said so to everybody else that would listen and that came out. The other thing is is the fbi, the nsc and the cia were not talking to each other. Jeb bush fired back at trump during an interview with fox news. Bush defended his brothers anti terror policies and argued the former president did keep america safe. His view of history is just wrong. The simple fact is that when we were attacked my brother created an environment where for 2,600 days we were safe. No one attacked us again. And he changed the laws. He did everything necessary. He united the country and kept us safe. Donald trump is not a serious candidate when it relates to Foreign Policy. He has to show hes capable. It is not just all about him. It is about policies and a strategy and understanding how the world works and how American Leadership matters. The lack of understanding of how the world works is what the problem is. Bush argued instead of blaming 9 11, the finger should be pointed at former president bill clinton for not hunting down Osama Bin Laden. There are two ways to look at terrorism. One is a as threat or we view it as the Law Enforcement operation where people have rights. I think the Clinton Administration made a mistake thinking bin laden had to be viewed from a Law Enforcement perspective. Similarly president obama eats policy seems to be focused on that as well. This is a war against western civilization. I want to wring you back to september 11th to the moment that president george w. Bush was told america was under attack. You remember he was at an Elementary School in florida reading to school children. And you can see the shock on his face. So lets focus again on whether president bush should have known an attack was imminent and was bill clinton to blame . My guest peter is here. Thank you for being with us. Morning. So before we begin our discussion, is this finger pointing important . Well, you know, history is about trying to discern the truth. So i guess i think it is important. Of course ultimately the people who were to blame for 9 11 were Osama Bin Laden and the hijackers and al qaeda. But the historical reports show before the attacks on 9 11, president bush and others really had no idea about bin laden or al qaeda. And look on the records and you will find nothing. In public statements they didnt seem to think al qaeda or bin laden were a problem and in private meetings we know as a fact they didnt think so because theds 33 cabinet meetings before 9 11. Only one was about terrorism and al qaeda. And the first one they had was about iraq. So that is where their heads were at. And that is just a matter of historical record. Even though not so long before president bush took office there was an attack on the u. S. S. Cole and also an attack on the World Trade Center before what happened on 9 11. Right. Well the attack on the World Trade Center was treated as the Law Enforcement matter. And it wasnt you know its never been clear it was ab al qaeda separation. Operation. When our embassies were attacked president clinton did attack with a warlike response. And sent a whole posse of the cruise mimis missiles. What jeb bush sed in the interview this morning with fox is not really true. Clinton did treat it to some degree as the war problem, as much as a Law Enforcement problem. But both administrations sat on their hands after the u. S. S. Cole attack which killed 17 american soldiers and it was clear al qaeda did that on october 12, 2000. So there is some blame blame is the wrong word. More could have been done by both administrations. But the Bush Administration was in office nine months and really their concerns were antiballistic Missile Defense which of course does nothing to stop terrorists. Their concerns were iraq. Their concerns were china and they had a cold war mind set where they didnt see al qaeda as the problem. Lets look forward now. Does any candidate out there have a plan that would prevent such an attack in the future . Deal withiasisis . Deal with al qaeda. Does anybody have that plan . Or are they just looking backwards and pointing fingers of the blame. I think both the Bush Administration and Obama Administration since 9 11, obviously there have been mistakes. Invading iraq amplified the jie hadi problem and created in a sense the groundwork which became isis. But the facts speak for themselves. Since 9 11, 31 americans have been killed in the United States by jihadi terrorists which individually are all tragic but these arent tragedies like 9 11. The fact is since they have both done a very good job building up offenses and american offenses the idea that obama treatise al qaeda or isis as a Law Enforcement problem is absolutely insane. Obama has authorized literally thousands of strikes against members of isis or al qaeda and killed, many, many thousands of them. That is not a Law Enforcement approach. If anything it is a very aggressive approach. So i guess were going to hear a lot more about this. Because it seems to be something that is attracting a lot of interest and attention. But at the end of the day it is a good discussion to have. History is about trying to get the facts right. Absolutely. Peter bergen. Thanks for your insight. Cnn. C cnn. Com opinion. Take control of your retirement today the controversy over undercover videos is leading to more fallout forplanned parenthood. Hidden cameras like this planned parenthood calls the decision outrageous and little. A federal judge blocked a similar move in louisiana siting concerns of a lack of investigation or any due process. As for the videos were now learning more about the misleading nature. Drew griffith is in atlanta with more. Good morning. When the videos began rolling out this summer planned parenthood said they were heavily edits, taken out of context. The group that produced them. David daleiden says they show exactly what he believes is going on that planned parenthood was selling fetal tissue samples to various Research Labs for profit. That is the issue here. The problem for David Daleiden and the center for medical progress as we found is his misuse of video. One such misuse found its way into the republican president ial debate. Watch a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating. It s legs kick. In the second debate Carly Fiorina made this attack on planned parenthood citing this clip in daleidens documentary. Its nose have very pronounced. It had eyelids and its mouth was pronounced and then since the fetus was still in tact she said, okay. Well this is a really good fetus horrific image. Not just an image, a video. Where did it come from . That video is are from an Organization Called the center for bio ethical reform. They are one of the largest repositories of abortion images and abortion videos in the world i think. So you dont know where that came from . I dont know the exact location. No. Or the date . I dont know the exact location or the date. I know that is footage from cbr from their abortion images archive. The center for bio ethical reform would not release any detailed information either. The center claims it was an aborted fetus. And that they paid for the video. This is actually what Carly Fiorina was talking about, right . This is that video. But you cant tell me right now if this was even at the planned parenthood facility . It doesnt matter. It doesnt matter. It is only there as an illustration of the sort of born alive late term fetus that Holly Odonnell is talking about. But you dont know where the baby was born. You dont know what date the baby was born. You dont know the particular clinics. Yet this whole Video Production is talking about planned parenthood selling body parts and, you know, abortions. Right. Right. And thats and this specific sequence right here with Holly Odonnell is talking about an infant that was born alive in a planned parenthood clinic that they then harvested the brain from. Only once again. Not this baby. They have used it to attack the entire production as a fraud. All of the tape and footage David Daleiden has released into the world has been heavily edited and i think pretty thoroughly discredited. Dawn is a an executive Vice President at planned food and discrediting the misuse of video was easy. But we asked her about the other parts of the tape that do seem to show bargaining, negotiating, pricing and arranging the sales of body parts. Like in this exchange where planned parenthoods dr. Mary gather appears to be in negotiations over the sale of fetal tissue samples. What i want to know is what would work for you . Dont lowball it. 75 a specimen. Oh thats way too low. Okay. So that sounds like negotiating prices. What is it . Well one we dont know. Because again these tapes are extremely heavily edited. But that portion was actually met he just say. 75. This is a person, a doctor. A fabulous doctor who does great care for women who wouldnt an affiliate be the person anyway that would tell you what the reimbursement costs that were allowed under the law would be. She is someone they got to come to lunch and ask her to guess about what would be a proper reimbursement. Hes but she doesnt know what the cost of fed ex would be. Shes guessing. And saying i used to work somewhere else and it was another amount. So shes just trying to ask what is it you pay others as an loubl amount under the law. Becauseallowable amount under t. Because these people if they were real would not be allowed to pay someone the costs that are more than allowed under the law. Iz illegal to sell for profit. Which is the issue here. And what these tapes do seem to show is many official, many people involved with planned parenthood discussing pricing over fetal tissue samples. So last week trying to put this entire episode behind them, planned parenthood announced that the small fraction of its clinics that did get reimbursed for tissue samples, they will end that practice. The tissue samples will now be donated. There will be no money transferred. Thank you. Thousands of protesters have a message, stay out. Well take you do germany, next. Plaque psoriasis. I cant believe that. Why do you think people are so i watch star wars, the original star wars, because im old enough and i loved it. But its cheesy if you watch it now. So, why are people so emotionally connected to these characters. Well, because for movie lovers like me, we love the movie, we love the franchise. You know, what this movie is doing is actually blending the old with the new. I mean, we did see in the trailer we saw han solo, we saw Princess Leia, we saw chewbacca. Who we did not see was Luke Skywalker. We know mark hamels in the mov movie. We were talking about this earlier. We did not see him in the trailer. The big question is, where is Luke Skywalker . We also saw john boyega, he plays finn we saw him with the lightsaber go up against kylo ren, who is the new dark side, because he said, i will finish what you started. Is there a jedi . So many things that need to be answered. Luke skywalker is in the melted darth vader mask. Oh, carol Carol Costello and i have to end the segment on that. Thanks so much. Youre always fun. Next hour of cnn newsroom starts now. Happening now in the newsroom go Donald Donald trump riding high in a brand new cnn poll. How can you say you were safe under his brother when we just had the worst attack in the history of our country . And those comments on george bush and 9 11 . Not swaying his supporters. Donald said it. I think it. Also, the cia directors personal email allegedly hacked. Cnn talks to the hacker who said he did it. How difficult would you say it is . Oh, you mean out of ten . Sure, out of ten. One. Why he did it and what did he find out . Plus, what happened between Johnny Manziel and his girlfriend in this car . Depends on who you ask. He like i dont know. He hit me a couple of times. Weve got the dash cam video, the 911 calls. What does it mean for the cleveland browns. Lets talk live in the cnn newsroom. Good morning, im Carol Costello. Thank you for joining me. The republicans race for president , the strong get stronger and the weak appear to wither. Frontrunners donald trump and ben carson now control nearly half the republican support. According to the latest cnn orc poll, trump leads carson 27 to 22 . All the other candidates in the crowded field are mired in single digits. Whos trending . Trump gained a few Percentage Points from last month, and carson hauls in eight. Rubio, bush, fiorina all losing ground. These are among trumps topic in the freewheeling interview on cnn. Ben carson is running second to you. Hes at 22 . Could there be any two more different people . How do you explain that you both are winning with republicans . Well, weve hit a chord. Were not as different as people think. We have a very good relationship. Were not as different as people think, but there is a certainly a different style. You know, i have some great assets and he has some great assets, but we are both resonating, theres no question about it. Nbc just came out with their poll, and its very similar. Im in first place and bens in second place. And i went up a lot and from my original, ive gone up a lot. You know, the other candidates are very similar. Maybe these polls are starting to really accurate out. Can you imagine a trump carson ticket . Well, i like him. He likes me. I mean, Stranger Things have happened, that i can tell you, but its too early to think about that. It certainly is interesting. So many people have suggested it because we seem to be doing awfully well. Very quickly, can we talk about Carly Fiorina for a second. Yes. You two have obviously had your issues in the past. How do you explain how her poll numbers have plummeted . She had this big bump after the debate. Shes gone from 15 to now 4 . Thats a big drop. I dont know. I like carly, actually, but i dont know why she would have dropped so much. Thats a very, big drop. Theres no answer to that. A couple others have dropped pretty good, too. Theres no answer to carly. Shes talented. Im surprised to see that much of a drop. Lets talk about last night. You were in south carolina. You had a passionate crowd there. You said something to them, you said about guns, you said, you know the president is thinking about signing an executive order where he wants to take away your guns. You hear about this . Now, mr. Trump, the president has not signed an executive order to take away no, no, ive heard he wants to. And i heard it on, i think, your network. Someone said thats what hes thinking about. I didnt say i think auto hes signing it. It would be a tough one to sign. It would be impossible, as a matter of fact. Yes, it would be impossible but hes thinking about it. Ive heard it on numerous networks and the papers. My source is the papers. The president cannot constitutionally sign an executive order to take away guns. He cant sign an executive order on immigration either but he did. When youre telling your crowd last night that hes coming after you and your guns, and you know that not to be true, i mean no, he has been in different forums. In my opinion, hes against the second amendment, which is ridiculous. But he has certainly not been prosecond amendment. So, going back to this latest poll, it does not bode well for Carly Fiorina, as you saw. She was flying high at 15 after a stellar debate performance with the perfect comeback to Donald Trumps look at her face. I think women all over this country heard very clearly what mr. Trump said. I think shes got a beautiful face and i think shes a beautiful woman. But since that debate, that moment, just one month ago, fiorina has lost 11 points, declining from 15 support to 4 today. Donald trump said he couldnt explain the plunge, but maybe my next guest can. Loretta lapore, state coach for Carly Fiorina. Thanks for having me. So, what happened . Well, i think carly clearly has a name i. D. Issue at this point. We know going into the first debate she only fewer than 40 of the voters knew her name. Going into the second debate, fewer than 50 of the voters knew her name. She still has that issue. When we look at the state polls, early state polls, iowa, new hampshire, shes poll negotiate top three. If you look at the average, if you look at the real clear politic polls which are averaging polls across the board she started out at 1 . Today shes at 7 . The arrows are clearly going in the right direction. Factor in the fact shes receiving numerous endorsements in various states and her recent fundraising numbers, which in this last cycle she outraised marco rubio. You have to look at the picture in totality, i believe. Well, let me lay this by you. Some say Carly Fiorina cant figure out how to define feminism for a gop audience. On one hand, she effectively stood up for women everywhere with that great comeback to donald trump, but then she went to war with planned parenthood, which i understand shes prolife, but she used a false hood out of that video to do it. Lets watch. Anyone who has watched this videotape, i dare, Hillary Clinton, barack obama, to watch these tapes, watch a fully formed fetus on the table. Its heart beating. Its legs kicking. While someone says, we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain. A majority of women support planned parenthood. Half of women support abortion rights. Did Carly Fiorina, by saying that, alienate women who arent quite as conservative . Well, i think, one, you know, the argument that carly made we may have to agree to disagree on that. She feels very strongly and convicted about what she said about planned parenthood and the video ander comments have been borne out by some news organizations. The bigger point is not whether you are prolife or prochoice on this issue, its a matter of what are the you know, harvesting fetal tissue doesnt necessarily fall on one side or the other. It doesnt fall on a partisan. This speaks to a broader issue. It speaks to the character of our nation. It speaks to how do we want to be defenders of life, if that is value americans hold dear, then we ought to all rise up. This isnt a prolife prochoice argument. I dont think thats a factor with women. Carly has been very clear where she stands on the feminism issue. Her definition of feminism clearly is women should be able to choose their path, whatever that path is. And it should be unobstructed. And i think your viewers can find her remarks, she delivered a whole speech on feminism, its on youtube, and i would encourage folks who have any question about where she stands on that to look at that video. Fiorina is also stepping up her criticism of Hillary Clinton, her camp actually, her supporters released an ad. My question is, shouldnt Carly Fiorina be attacking her republican opponents and not Hillary Clinton at this particular time . Well, i dont know about, you know, critiquing her republican opponents. I think we have a number of very qualified candidates in the field. Thats just not carlys style, necessarily. I think, yes, she does wanted to differentiate herself from her competitors in the republican field, and i think she has a strong footing on which to do that. Whether you look at her business experience, her nonprofit experience, her technology experience, are clear delinea r delineators between her and her republican rivals but i think what people really like in the debate was, you know, she was tough and that resonated with voters after that debate, her poll numbers shot up. But we havent heard that kind of language from her lately or have we and we havent noticed . Carly is spending a lot of time right now in those early states and other states around the nation, talking specifically to voters and answering the questions that are of most concern to her. They want answers. They want to know what it is and where she stands on the issues of importance today. The economy, national security, and and shell have many opportunities, next week, debate next week, and subsequent debates in november, december, and several into the new year to delineate herself and her positions amongst her republican opponents. Loretta lepore, thank you for your insight. Is the joe biden guessing game entering its final hours . I know many of you home so. Minutes ago we learned that Hillary Clinton is sending a message of her own. So, lets head to breanna keilar, our senior political correspondent, and jim acosta, live at the white house, and hell talk about joe biden. Lets get the biden stuff out of the way first, shall we . Carol, it seems like vice President Biden is sending messages of his own. We should point to these live pictures. Vice President Biden attending an event in honor of former Vice President monday dell here in d. C. And vice President Biden, you know, with all of the speculation about what hes going to do, is he going to run for president , you know, i hate to say it, but he is taking some very subtle digs at Hillary Clinton. Theres really no other way to describe it. Consider a couple of things he said just in the last several minutes. First, he talks about how when he was part of the obama transition team, he had veto power over cabinet secretaries, which would presumably include the secretary of state. Heres what vice President Biden had to say about that. We spent 14 hours a day some days, on the 80th floor, whatever it was, in a high rise in an Office Building in chicago putting together a cabinet. The president at the outset said, you have veto right on anybody in this cabinet. If you think we should not move, he asked my opinion on every cabinet member, and we were in total agreement. Now, he went on to say during this exchange with Walter Mondale, when it comes to traveling around the world and speaking on behalf of this administration, he said, weve had two great secretaries of state, but when im abroad, theres no question i speak for the president , which could be read as another dig. Consider vice President Biden went back to this line that he uttered yesterday about not having enemies in the Republican Party, sort of harkening back, not saying it directly, but harkening back to what Hillary Clinton said at the debate last week in las vegas when she said she considers Republican People in the Republican Party her enemies. Heres how vice President Biden talked about it just earlier this morning. Once again, heres what he had to say. I really respect the members up there. I still have a lot of republican friends. Dont think my chief enemy is the Republican Party. This is a matter of, you know, making things work. Now, carol, he said almost this exact thing yesterday at a Climate Change conference. Those comments have nothing to do with Climate Change. The comments hes making there have nothing to do with Walter Mondale. You can only come to the conclusion. Hes talking about Hillary Clinton there. Its kind of astounding because were talking about, is he going to make this decision, not make this decision . But hes very much sounding like a candidate this morning. At one point he talked about how he did not definitively say the president should not go after barack obama. Thats one of the narratives in washington that hillary was in favor of it, biden was against it. This is going to generate a lot of headlines this morning. Breanna, is Hillary Clintons camp going, what . What theyre concentrating is sending a message of their own to both joe biden, a wouldbe competitor, and Bernie Sanders. Hillary clinton, her campaign announcing today shes secured the endorsement of more than 50 africanamerican mayors, including the american of columbia, south carolina. In almost all of these mayors who are endorsing her are from south carolina. That is key. Also james perkins, the former mayor of selma, alabama. He was the first black mayor of that historic city. The message she is sending and her campaign is sending to joe biden is, hey, buddy, youre late to the game. You know, we have been working on this ground game on securing these endorsements and were well ahead of you when it comes to this. The other big message is to Bernie Sanders, that is specifically in south carolina. It is the third contest during the primary and caucus season. The black vote is all important to a democrat who is trying to win that state. Shes sending a message to Bernie Sanders, who doesnt do very well with black voters compared to Hillary Clinton. Hey, i got this. I have secured this support and im going to stop you after iowa, new hampshire. Theres no path for you. Thats the message shes sending. Interesting. The fbi and secret service are investigating reports that personal email from cia director john brennan and department of Homeland Security jeh johnson were breached. This morning were hearing from the were hearing from the men who said they did it. Who said they did it all. Apparent hackers giving cnn an exclusive phone interview. Heres what we know. The selfproclaimed hackers describe themselves as american, under the age of 22 and smoke pot every single day. As for their motivation, free palestine. It was interesting to get on the phone and talk to these guys. Ill tell you about how i found them. They were posting alleged hackers were posting on twitter what they said were the leaked information from the inbox. I was able to get in touch with them through that. They spoke to me a little about their motivation. They kind of added a little more about why they want to do this. They also said something pretty shocking about how vulnerable government officials are. Take a listen. How vulnerable are other government officials to people like you . I would say 100 vulnerable. I mean, most things are on the internet. Theres always something that or someone that can make it vulnerable. And exploit it. And thats it. Share a little about your background. Why is this for you . You because i dont always think about myself, you know what i mean . Someone has to do something. The United States government has to stop arent going to stop. You seem to have hatred for the government. Did something happen . I dont know why the people trust the government so much theyre being stupid. We all trust the cia with their security, an attack this easy can be done. We can, like, send emails and get passwords for highly sensitive servers. I mean, i dont know why where do you draw the line . How do you view yourselves . I view myself as a guy that likes computers. And i dont like government either. Im not a terrorist. Carol, sources have actually confirmed both of the accounts were, in fact, hacked. We cant independently verify that these documents were those leaked documents. You know, that being said, i try to take everything theyre saying with a grain of salt because obviously you hear they were disguising their voices. We dont know exactly where they are, what theyre saying is true, but if it is, it is very, very scary to think these guys who dont call themselves sophisticated hackers were able to breach the personal email of the director of the cia. That is very eyeopening and also very troubling when you look at it. Oh, absolutely. Has the cia contacted you or those guys you talked to . Weve heard from the cia. They say theyre looking into it. When i spoked to hackers yesterday, they said they have yet to hear from them. They believe theyre untraceable but they also said something pretty interesting which is they said theyre going to keep doing this, targeting government officials, keep targeting the police until they get raided. You know, you almost you almost get a sense of immaturity when you talk to them. Ive covered Cyber Security quite a bit. Ive talked to a the will of sophisticated hackers. You almost get the idea they did this they kept changes the story to say there were three of them, then six, then nine of them. You get the idea this is someone who hacked because they figured out they could and it was kind of easy, which is eyeopening when you look at the motivation why people are deciding to hack more and more. Branson is a longtime advocate of decriminalizing personal drug use and treating it as a health issue. He says the United Nations, in part, agrees. He posted a paper prepared by the u. N. s hiv doctor on his blog. He says, treating drug use for nonmedical purposes and possession of personal consumption as criminal offenses has contradicted to Public Health problems and induced negative consequences for safety, security and human rights. They are now walking back any suggestion they advocate decriminalizing personal drug use. They say it was for discussion only and it was for, quote, misunderstood. Sir Richard Branson is with me now. Good morning. Good morning. Nice to talk to you. Nice to have you here. You say the United Nations is backtracking now only because they were pressured. Who was pressuring the u. N. . Well, what we know is the document was meant to be launched on sunday. The new york city times were given a copy of the document and then they went to the white house to get their comments and quite quickly that we believe now the executive director of the u. N. Odc ended up saying the document could not go out on sunday as planned. So exactly why they changed their mind, whos to know. I think what is really important is what was in the document. The document said that encouraged for drugs to be de criminalized. The document said that theyre criminalizing people has done enormous harm and is unnecessary and that millions have unnecessary arrests have been made. This is from the very body that oversees the oversees drug policy on a global basis. Its a very powerful document. A document the Global Commission agrees with and we would hope we would sorry. Mr. Branson, i was wondering, all drugs . Youre talking cocaine and heroine . All drugs should be legalized or decriminalized . This document from the u. N. Odc said all drugs should be decriminalized worldwide. Now, the reason that we agree with this is that if you take if you take heroine as an example, portugal had a massive heroine problem years ago. The Prime Minister stood up and said, we will not send anyone to prison, we will not prosecute anyone taking heroine. We will help them. Well set up clinics for them to com come through managed to reduce the amount of people taking heroine by 90 . If you look after your children and help them if they have a drug problem or your brothers and sisters, you will get them off. If you threaten them with, you know, prison sentences and criminal offenses, it doesnt work. It hasnt worked. Let me ask you this, because in the United States weve been sort of experimenting with that in many states, decriminalizing marijuana. Yet a september report showed colorado, the first state to decriminalize pot, trafficrelated deaths increased by 92 from 2010 to 2014. So that seems to say if you decriminalize Something Like marijuana, more people will abuse it. I think if you i dont know the specific stats from individual states but i do know the amount of people taking marijuana has not increased in colorado or in washington state, the places marijuana has been legalized. In the states where medical marijuana has been used, an awful lot of people have actually benefitted from the use of medical marijuana, from, you know, quite extreme ailments. So i think you can always find something to have a headline, but by and large, the amount of misery thats being caused by imprisoning i mean, in america you have 1. 8 Million People in prison for drugrelated offenses. If you could actually not put those people in prison, but if you could actually help those people and try to make sure they are not taking drugs and they can become useful members of society again, america would benefit enormously. You are right about that. Half of all inmates serving time in u. S. Federal prisons are incarcerated for drug offenses. I only say a lot of people talk about de krilizing drugs, right . Nothing ever really happens because, frankly, nobody has the infrastructure in place to take care of people who might be addicted to drugs. So, how do you start . Yeah, i think i think the money that is being got in tax from selling of marijuana ought to be ought to go towards clinics to help people with alcohol problems, to help people with all kinds of different addictions. And i think the government you know, governments must help more. Like theyve done in portugal and switzerland and germany. You know, if you do the two things at the same time, you will get on top of the problem. In the countries that treat drugs as a health problem, not a criminal problem, its become a nonevent. In countries that continue to wage war, like mexico and america, you know, hundreds of people get killed, thousands of people get killed every year unnecessarily. And so there needs to be a rethink after six years of a failed war on drugs. We have to leave it there. Richard branson, thanks for joining me. Thank you. Youre welcome. No cheap shots, stick to the fact and dont give an inch. Politico says thats the republican plan for dealing with Hillary Clinton at this weeks benghazi hearing. For clinton, the stakes are high. Her Foreign Policy credentials will be on the line. Lets talk about this with me now cnn senior political analyst and editorial director for the national director, ron brownstein, also essie kupp. Good morning. Good morning. No cheap shots, stick to the facts, dont give an inch. For those who watched the republicanled hearings on planned parenthood, is that possible . Look, i think this is a very challenging moment. Not only for her but increasi increasingly for the committee. How the state department responded to the security issue in libya, for that matter Hillary Clintons judgment in using the private email server, but this is the eighth congressional investigation of benghazi, plus the administrative review. And i think the committee is under a certain amount of pressure here to show that there is something to show for this. There is new information, there are new questions to ask. Secretary clinton has testified before congress. And the back drop for this has been kind of the drum beat of first House Majority leader kevin mccarthy, and then congressman hanna, arguing this is fundamentally political. While theyre asking legitimate questions, they also face this cloud. I think theres a certain amount of pressure on them to show that this inquiry was legitimate and well see who comes out on thursday. The chairman, trey gowdy, told politico, these have been the worst weeks of his life. Worse than when he got Death Threats as a prosecutor. Isnt he, in part, part of the problem . There have been leaks from his committee, two republican lawmakers have come out and accused the committee of being partisan. Isnt it, in part, his fault for not controlling things better . Im sure he wishes there were a bit more control in these hearings, but everyone who knows trey gowdy is a straightshooter, hes a prosecutor. He takes this very seriously. I dont think he could have anticipated some of the you know, the outbursts that have come from the committee. And im sure he very much wishes that they wouldnt. Look, this is involving Hillary Clinton, who is running for president. Avoiding politics in this is almost impossible. Just like avoiding politics in the iraq war hearings when joe biden, who had Just Announced he was running for president , was presiding over that hearing and the panel was stacked with other people who were thinking of running for president , including barack obama in 2007. Its really hard to keep politics completely separate when its involving Hillary Clinton, whos running for president. Thats not to say trey gowdy isnt trying because according to the washington post, gowdys campaign returned money to three donors with an anticlinton pac. So, ron, at least hes trying. Well, gowdy has not had a reputation as being a hyperpartisan. He is a prosecutor but hes presided over a process, as he said, is has probably been made more partisan along the way by the comments of, you know, of some of the republicans. Theres tremendous infighting between Committee Democrats and committee republicans. Its a longterm trajectory of congress. If you think back to Something Like the irancontra committee, the watergate committees in the 70s, both sides worked together in a large extent on the inquiry. Now its just trench warfare right from the beginning. As i said, the back drop of this is there have been repeated investigations. Representative gowdy says they have new information that is relevant. Well see. I mean, you know, the underlying it is legitimate to ask about how the state department responded. Its legitimate to ask about Hillary Clintons choices in setting up a private email server. But, you know, the question of how they ask and the way they pursue this, that is still at issue. And i think the committee has high bar to justify the expense and the time following so many other inquiries. I have to leave it there. Ron brownstein, many thanks. Johnny football in trouble again off the field. Now the nfl is investigating. The browns quarterback, Johnny Manziel, is creating a lot more attention when hes off the field than on it. Manziel and his girl friend were pulled over after the pair got into a fight in his car. Manziel told police it escalated when she threw his wallet out the window. He said he grabbed her by the wrist to keep her from jumping out the car. Pictures show crowleys arm with an abrasion. This is what she told police. What happened today . You guys are obviously in this car. I dont know. He hit me a couple of times. While you were in the car . Yeah. I dont please dont make Richelle Nichols is covering the manziel saga for us. What is up with this . Its upsetting, right, if you listen to that whole tape. Shes crying. She talks about him hitting her, pushing her, grabbing her arm. She also simultaneously says, i dont want to do anything about this. You know, he didnt hurt me, she says, im okay. Shes giving conflict for police. We see this in the message disputes. He gives his account to police. Take a listen to what he said. Its somewhere in this field right here. Manziel its somewhere in this field right here. But your wallet was found . Whenever the phone came on the screen in your car . Due to the screen. Threw my wallet out the window. I pulled up in this driveway right here and told her to get out and look for my wallet. She threw her phone out the window. I grabbed her arm like this, get in the car, get in the car. We dont need trouble. Get in the car. Ill come find this later. Ill find it tonight, tomorrow, whatever. After that happened, i guess this lady pulled over somebody called somebody called the cops after that. Was she trying to get out of the car . She tossed my wallet out of the car and after that she got out of the car. The key there, carol, is that she said to police, she tossed his wallet out of the car because she wanted to get out of the car and he wouldnt stop. And they thought if she started throwing things important to him out of the car, he would stop the car and let her out. He said that he grabbed her wrist, trying to keep her from leaving the car. You can make your own decision about whether you feel thats violence or a problem. You said the nfl is investigating. Thats the indication we got from the cleveland browns. We asked the nfl directly if they were investigating the incident. They wouldnt say. They said its their policy to investigate incidence when they might have violated the personal conduct policy. So it would be nice to get a little clarity you would think because of the sensety surrounding the Domestic Violence issue surrounding the nfl you would want more transparency. Fans dont want to make a snap judgment on Johnny Manziel. We dont know what happened in that car and nobody is pretending they know as an outsider what happened in that car. You would like the league and the organization to have some transparency to show fans, hey, not only are we on top of it, but look what a good job were doing now since weve said weve made Great Strides in being better at it. Show us you are better at it. The other side, as you know, from following ohio sports so closely, Johnny Manziel went into rehab earlier in the year for an alcohol problem. He told police he had a couple drinks before he got in the car. They decided not to give him a field sobriety test but you would think the nfl would look into that as well.
