It is extraordinary now that you mention it. I hadnt thought about it before, but essentially there are so few people who can seemingly inspire that level of respect, that level of deference in President Trump. We dont often see that, but as you said, the queen, hes always taking a very deference shl tone. He seems to have a huge amount of respect for the institution of the monarchy. Perhaps he likes the idea of being a king. So and we saw today as he was carrying out his duties, attending that talking to the guards at Buckingham Palace, he really was behaving in a much more president ial way than what we have traditionally seen him do. One can only imagine that perhaps its because his mother is scottish. Kate, to you, you always know all things before anyone educational. Do we have any idea what Melania Trump, the first lady, will be wearing . I have tried. It is on lockdown. I have no idea yet what shes going to wear. I would imagine its going to be something pretty spectacular. Well have to take a look. Shes gotten her personal stylist involve who had did her inauguration gown and the hat today. It might be something from him, maybe something custom. My producer is telling me something. That its a white strapless dress. This is what we know happening live. But i dont know the designer yet. And it is interesting. I always say this about Melania Trump. When you dont have the sort of lots of speeches and appearances and someone who speaks a lot and does a lot of interviews, really, we look to her clothes to send the obscure sometimes subliminal messages. I think theyre there. I dont believe in Melania Trump coincidences. Tonight will be interesting as to who she wears and the kids. Tiffany trump has her own taste and style. She was just at a Film Festival in france. She spends a lot of time in london. Donald trump junior has been sporting this sort of outdoorsy guy beard. Well see if he has that tonight. Its interesting. These arent events the Adult Children arent people we see at the white house for a lot of events. That is the stunning piece of this. Feel free to jump in. Were used to i think the most recent president , barack obama and michelle obama, just the two of them going over for a state visit. Now its President Trump and his wife and the Adult Children, and others from the white house. And im wondering what their roles are, the Adult Children to you, kate, and max. Just what you make of everyone mixing together. I think clarissa said it. He likes the idea of being a king. It would explain why hes so research shl in the palace environment, and so dismissive almost of the chaotic politics in this country right now. I think for me the most interesting part of this visit has been this push and kate will explain how this came about. I think it was pretty last minute. The Adult Children coming along, its not completely unprecedented for a head of state to bring along their children to the state dinners. Mexico did it in 2015. But what is interesting is this call from President Trump for this next generation meeting, a formal meeting between his children and princess william and harry. They think at any time there will be no meeting of that kind here. But it does suggest he sees himself as a monarch, able to pass on his power. You explained this was a lastminute decision. Yeah. Well, the queen extended the invitation to the president and the first lady directly. I think those were the invited people. Its up to then i believe the ambassador to then flesh out the guest list a bit from the american side and likely thats when the children were added. I do feel that this is a sort of complicated, again, unprecedented, although you mentioned mexico. As you said, the interesting part of this next generation meeting to me was interesting as though the president perhaps sees his children as American Royalty or this is our equivalency which is not at all how we operate in america. But perhaps everyone gets a little overwhelmed. What is it about him being antiestablishment . Thats right. Everyone feel this is moment deeply. Perhaps he has royal fever. I dont know. Kate and max, stand by and well come back the second we see the shot of President Trump and the first lady. Let me bring in one more voice. Harry mount is a british author. And journalist, and the editor of the how england made the english from why we drive on the left to why we dont talk to our neighbors. Harry, welcome. Good evening. Lets start with trumps tweet about the london mayor. The mayor was provoking the president first, but to read the response from trump, calling him a stone cold loser, what does a brit think when they hear a phrase like that from the president of the United States . Well, we like anybody else would think it was very rude, but actually, i think were suffering from maybe what youre suffering from over there of a sort of trump insult fatigue. Its no longer shocking, really. A quarter of a Million People are expected to march tomorrow against trump. Theres a long term dislike of him. But whatever he says is no longer really shocking, and we over here, separate the man from the office. We still deeply respect the fact that the american president is coming over here to salute the thousands of american and british servicemen who lost their lives at dday 75 years ago and at the same time weve got rather tired and bored of the insults. I dont think theyre shocking anymore. I dont to the queen, if only we could read her mind on how she views all of this. Shes 93 years of age. She has met with every almost every american president since eisenhower. I know she will never let onto what shes thinking. Harry, will she act any certain way given the comments that he made about amerimeghan markle b nasty . Will she let that on . As you say, brooke, she doesnt really show emotion. For 67 years she has never given a tv interview. We will never know what shes thinking. Actually, funny enough, looking at her smile this afternoon when she met the president , it seemed like a pretty good full smile, but in those 67 years shes met some real shockers. She had the state visit of the former tyrant head of romania. Him and his family stole the silverbacked brushes on the bedside table at Buckingham Palace. I dont think President Trump is going to be doing that. I dont think so. Im sure he has much bigger gold brushes back home for himself. Bigger brushes, yes. I was talking to tom newton last hour, the Political Editor from the sun. He interviewed trump, and he got him to endorse Boris Johnson as prime minister. And we know trump is meeting with the outgoing Pm Theresa May tomorrow. But do you think these two men will be able to resist not needing in public this trip . Id have thought not. I know boris a little. I dont know your president , but boris is basically President Trumps mini me. They both absolutely love attention. And they both dont mind what the rest of the world thinks. If they want to meet each other, they will. Theresa may tried to suggest that nigel farage shouldnt meet President Trump, but im afraid what theresa may says makes no difference. If trumps wants to meet the men and they want to meet him, they will. I wouldnt be surprise first down you see all of them together. Last one, harry. These huge protests are expected tomorrow. What is it about trump that has usually reserved brits so excited . Well, i think part of it is the insults and the rudeness and the racism and the grabbing girls by certain parts of their anatomy. I think part of it is being on the right. The british have become greater protesters. The idea of us being a reserved quiet bunch has changed. Maybe over the last half century. I think its outrageous manner, the insults and i think being on the right. I dont think you get the same protests for a president on the left even if they were as outrangs as trump. Well cover it tomorrow. Harry mount, thank you very much. Good to see you. But our eyes are focussed on Buckingham Palace. We are minutes away from the state dinner. Well take you live as President Trump is expected to make a toast as well. Plus in a stunning new interview the president s soninlaw and Top White House adviser Jared Kushner struggles with questions about his middle east peace plan and speaks for the first time about how he got his security clearance. The president s soninlaw and Senior AdviserJared Kushner gave a rare and wide ranging interview to axios and hbo. Kushner dodges answering questions but he did answer a question about his White House Security clearance. Kushner was among those who had serious disqualifying issues. Here he was. Did you discuss your security clearance with the president . Im not going to go into security clearance related issues. What i know is that at this point after two years ive probably been more vetted than anymore. Your wife said no. I have not discussed it with him. You havent . No. You never discussed it . I have not discussed it. Okay. We should point out hbo is owned by the same Parent Company as cnn. Let me bring in jeremy diamond. Welcome. Jeremy, you first. We heard him say he claims he never discussed security clearance with the president. Thats right. And its relevant especially because there have been reports the president did indeed does with Jared Kushner and ivanka trump the issues they were having in obtaining the security clearances. At the same time we have Jared Kushner on the record saying unequivocally i have not discussed this issue with the president. We know the security clearance issue has been one that swirled around the white house. Even though the Mueller Report is now over, we have white house investigations. One of them circles around the issue of security clearances and whether some of these career officials in the White House Office that adjudicates the clearances were overruled for inappropriate or political reasons, and two of the individuals at the center of the controversy and the questions around why there were concerns that were flagged about their security clearance applications and how the hurdles were overcome, Jared Kushner and ivanka trump at the center of the questions. Jared kushner trying to put some of this to bed but really i think we have a lot more questions in the House Committee investigating this. Heres a question for kim. Jared kushner also made news when he answered a question about palestinians governing themselves. Listen. Do you believe the palestinians are capable of governing themselves without israeli interference . I think thats a very good question. I think that its a high bar. If you dont have a proper security and governing structure, when people are living in fear of terror. It hurts palestinians and israelis the same. I think they should have selfdetermination. Do you understand why the palestinians dont trust you . Look, im not here to be trusted. I do believe they want to have a better life. I do think that theyre not going to never mind. You theyre not going to judge anything based on trusting me or anyone else. Theyre going to do it based on the fact . Will it allow them to have a pathway to a better life . Kimberly, as the person in charge of brokering middle east peace for the white house, isnt that going to be a problem . Yes. Speaking as someone who has covered the peace talks in the past, you absolutely need an honest broker, a mediator that both sides think is going to be representing them but also thats going to be equally tough on them. And the fact that he doesnt understand that makes me question who is in his orbit dividing him in the process. Also okay, maybe you say that privately because youre look agent the intelligence about Palestinian Government infighting, corruption, things that we in the press have widely reported on. But you dont say it publicly if you hope to sit down with them at some point. And again, that makes me wonder is there anyone in jareds inner circle in the white houses inner circle that is telling them speaking from the heart from the palestinian side . Because unless you can see both sides as humans, unless you can see what each side really wants and needs, you cant bring them together for a peace deal. Speaking of a peace deal, we have heard now from trumps own secretary of state mike pompeo. He privately acknowledged when he was speaking with jewish leaders that kushners stand off to may not sit well with all sides. Heres that clip. I think any fair person would describe as a very detailed one might argue unexecutable. No one believes this will be easy. Can we find enough space where theres enough that everybody says thats something to begin to work on . I get why people think this is going to be a deal that only the israelis would love. I understand the perception of that. I hope everyone will just give the space to listen and let it settle in a little bit. So thats the audio. Mike pompeo disputed the account despite the recording. Kimberly, this is the u. S. Secretary of state being realistic . Is that what this is . Hes being realistic about the peace plan . How significant is the audio there . Look, you cant argue with the tape. Its great reporting by the Washington Post john hudson, but the fact of the matter is hes also being a realist. Any u. S. President bringing a peace deal to these two groups of people, especially the way attitudes have hardened on both sides toward each other and the trust has broken down, its going to be very hard to get the israelis to make any concessions when they feel like theyre in a position of ascendants and the palestinians are splintered with hamas on one side and the Palestinian Authority on the other. And the Palestinian People caught inbetween. So hes acknowledging all of that. But the fact that hes saying that to that audience also feels like hes preparing people for this not to succeed. Kimberly, thank you. This administration has run into one roadblock after the next in trying to roll this out. Now we have the Israeli Coalition talks that have fallen apart. The administration now preparing for israeli elections in september. They wanted to put it out after the elections were over and the Coalition Talks were over. Now it seems like they may have to wait until after september to put this out. To the point of the administration has consistently made the argument that if they are close to the israeli government, if they go closer to the israeli position perhaps they can convince the israelis to make a deal. What kind of deal will this be . And theres a huge amount of skepticism among the arab world about what the plan entails and si secretary pompeos remarks spoke to that. Tough to deny the audio of him speaking privately just recently. Jeremy, thank you for jumping in there, and kim, thank you. Lets move on. A desperate search in connecticut for a missing mother of five. Now police have arrested her estranged husband and his girlfriend. Jennifer dulos disappeared after dropping her kids off at school. Shes in the midst of a custody battle and a hearing set for wednesday. Her husband and girlfriend were arraigned today on charges of tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution. Jason carroll is our cnn National Correspondent outside the courthouse in norwalk, connecticut. You got your hands on the arrest warrant. Police believe theyre dealing with a homicide . Reporter absolutely. The reason is because investigators actually went to the home at jennifer was living in with her five children. They went inside the garage, and according to this arrest warrant application, once they were inside that garage, what they found was multiple stains on the garage floor. It tested positive for human blood. In addition they found evidence of attempts to clean up the scene there. And they reached one conclusion. The conclusion is very disturbing. They concluded that jennifer was the victim of a very serious physical assault. That, again, according to the arrest warrant application. They also what we found out is investigators traced them to several locations around the area where he was dumping off trash and articles of clothing and dumping off a some sort of a sponge. And their investigation leads them to believe some of the items were also stained with blood. And as you know, she was involved in this extremely bitter custody battle and divorce with her husband. It lasted more than two years. She had already indicated she feared for her estranged husband, that he had some sort of feelings wefor revenge. These are the Building Blocks theyre putting forward. At this point theyve only been charged with fabricating physical evidence. Theyve also been charged with witness tampering. Its very clear from this arrest warrant application they are suspects in her disappearance. Yeah. Jason carroll with the latest on that investigation. Thank you very much. Jason in connecticut. I want to show you what happened in San Francisco when smart harris was on stage during a move on big ideas forum. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hello. Hi. Hi. Hi. Whoa. Wait a minute, sir. Scary moment. And we spotlighted this. This is the senators husband there helping take the protester off the stage. He wrestle the microphone out of the guys hand and senator harris returned to the stage, thumbs up, reassuring everything she was okay. Lets go to maeve reston. Maeve, even seeing the moderator jump in and try to keep this guy away from the senator, where was security . Well, i mean, its a pretty it was a pretty shocking moment. I think one that as you mentioned probably all of the president ial campaigns were watching. There isnt really a lot of security around the candidates at the moment. Senator harris in particular travels a lot with her sister and sometimes one aide, and often her husband is there. You can often see him kind of at the edge of the crowd. He stays behind the scenes. And in this instance he literally had to leap up on stage to help the other people who were hauling the protester off stage with a very angry scowl. That was a natural reaction you would have if your spouse had been confronted like that. So a really interesting moment that shone a spotlight on her husband, a lawyer who practices law both in california and washington d. C. But its taken a behind the scenes role on the campaign before now. Before now, and now everyone is watching him come to the come help get this guy off stage, and he also tweeted he would do anything for his wife. What more do we know about him . Well, its so interesting. Kamala harris is not one of those candidates like Pete Buttigieg who constantly talks about his husband on the campaign trail. Shes always kept her private life very private. She did open up for the first time in her book earlier this year about her swift courtship with her husband, doug. It was very quick. He was a divorced father of two, and she had a lot of trepidation about intruding on their family dynamic. But his kids, co cole and ella welcomed her and call her mamala. Doug is a relaxed presence in her life. He gets up in the morning and reads the news before shes up and she often says she knows how the day is going to go based on his grunts or growns or sighs. He really plays that balancing role, calm within the storm. They clicked over their sense of humor. She was forced to go on a blind date with him by her best friend. And she says that they were joking with one another, and sharing a similar sense of humor and thats the role he continues to play in her life. And apparently also bouncer for protesters at this moment. Apparently. Yeah. Add that to the Job Description of husband of Kamala Harris. I appreciate your details. I know he wants the stay in the background, but he jumped in. Hes now a twitter star. There you go. Maeve, thank you very much. Maeve reston. Max foster and kate men net are in front of Buckingham Palace. As we stay on the pictures, max and kate, tell me more about the the choice of dress and the preparation. Well, for a lot of royal fans, this is what its about, tiaras and ball gowns and white tie. Were going to let kate take away the fashion. Melania trump, her dress is not strapless, but its sleeveless. Shes wearing white. Michelle obama wore a white down for her visit to the palace. Its simple. She wore white earlier today. I dont know if theres a symbolism. I think its white tie event. The queen is wearing white. White is the theme for the evening. We do have the menu. We do have the menu. The first course will be the steamed fillet of halibut. And for desert strawberry sable. I dont know what that is. Not Donald Trumps typical steak and ice cream sundae. It is not meat and potatoes . The only person that wont have their name on their place is the queen. Thats a long tradition. And the four days it took to set the table, it looks like a job well done. Whenever i look at that moment dont they measure i mean, every chair to the table to the forks and the knives and the plates. It is precise. Yeah. So each plate is exactly 18 inches, 45 centimeters apart. They measure it with sticks and every chair an equal distance from the table and the same is for the hundreds of glasses all over the table. Theres the queen standing. Move the chairs, pick up a glass. Toast time. For you and mrs. Trump to Buckingham Palace this evening. Just 12 months after our first meeting in windsor visits by american president s always remind us of the close and long standing friendship between the United Kingdom and the United States. And im so glad that we have another opportunity to demonstrate the immense importance that both our countries attach to our relationship. In the coming days, you will see some of our most treasured historical buildings, speak to the Business Leaders whose expertise and innovation drive our economies, and meet members of our armed services, past and present. You will also travel to portsmouth and normandy to commemorate the 75th anniversary of dday. On that day and many occasions since, the armed forces of both our countries fought side by side to defend our cherished values of liberty and democracy. Mr. President , in your state of the Union Address this year, you paid tribute to some of the american heros who risked their lives and we owe an immeasurable debt to the british, american, and allied soldier who is began the liberation of europe on the 6th of june, 1944. I paid my first state visit to your country at the invitation of president eisenhower. As supreme allied commander, he had ultimate response for the execution of the normandy landings. In his headquarters at st. James square, not far from Buckingham Palace, british and american officers worked closely together to plan the freedom of a continent. And it would be no exaggeration to say that millions of lives depended on that common endeavor. As we face the new challenges of the 21st century, the anniversary of dday reminds us of all that our countries have achieved together. After the shared sacrifices of the Second World War, britain and the United States worked with other allies to build an assembly of international institutions, to ensure that the horrors of conflict would never be repeated. While the world has changed, we are forever mindful of the original purpose of these structures. Nations working together to safeguard a hardwon peace. Of course, it is not only our security which unites us, but our strong cultural links and shared heritage. Every year, there are almost 4 million visits by americans to the United Kingdom, with a great number claiming british descent. And with your own scottish ancestry, mr. President , you too have a particular connection to this country. We are also bound by the strength and breadth of our economic ties, as the largest investors in each others economies. British companies in the United States employ over 1 million americans, and the same is true vice versa. Mr. President , as we look to the future, im confident that our common values and shared interests will continue to unite us. Tonight, we celebrate an alliance that has helped to ensure the safety and prosperity of both our peoples for decades, and which i believe will endure for many years to come. Ladies and gentlemen, i invite you all to rise and drink a toast to president and mrs. Trump, to the continued friendship between our two nations and to the health, prosperity, and happiness of the people of the United States. [ applause ] your majesty, melania and i are profoundly honored to be your guests for this historic state visit. Thank you for your warm welcome, for this beautiful weather, your gracious hospitality, and your majestys nearly seven decades of treasured friendship with the United States of america. This week, we commemorate a mighty endeavor of righteous nations and one of the greatest undertakings in all of history. 75 years ago, more than 150,000 allied troop were preparing on this island to be parachute into france, storm the beaches of normandy, and win back our civilization. As her majesty remembers, the british people had hoped and prayed and fought for this day for nearly five years. When britain stood alone during the blitz of 1940 and 1941, the na nazi war machine dropped thousands of bombs on this country, and right on this magnificent city. Buckingham palace alone was bombed on 16 separate occasions. In that dark hour, the people of this nation showed the world what it means to be british. They cleared wreckers from the streets, displayed the union jack from their shattered homes and kept fighting on to victory. They only wanted victory. The courage of the United Kingdoms sons and daughters ensured that your destiny would always remain in your own hands. Through it all, the royal family was the resolute face of the commonwealths unwavering solidarity. In april 1945, newspapers featured a picture of the queen mother visiting the womans branch of the army, watching a young woman repair a military truck engine. That young mechanic was the future queen, a great, great woman. Her majesty inspired her compatriots in that fight to support the troops, defend her homeland, and defeat the enemy at all cost. We also pay tribute to prince phillips distinguished and valiant service in the royal navy during the Second World War. On dday, the queens beloved father, King George Vi delivered a stirring national address. That day he said, after nearly five years of toil and suffering, we must renew that crusading impulse on which we entered the war and met its darkest hour. Our fight is against evil and for a world in which goodness and honor may be the foundation of the life of men in every land. This evening, we thank god for the brave sons of the United Kingdom and the United States who defeated the nazis and the nazi regime and liberated millions from tyranny. The bond between our nations was forever sealed in that great crusade. As we honor our shared victory and heritage, we affirm the common values that will unite us long into future. Freedom, sovereignty, selfdetermination, the rule of law and reference for the rights given to us by almighty god. From the Second World War to today, her majesty has stood as a constant symbol of these priceless traditions. She has embodied the spirit of dignity, duty, and patriotism that beats proudly in every british heart. On behalf of all americans, i offer a toast to the eternal friendship of our people, the vitality of our nations, and to the longcherished and truly remarkable reign of her majesty, the queen. Thank you. Thank you
