Were hearing that the twotime president ial hopeful has been holding some meetings while vacationing in South Carolina. Lets go to michelle kosinski, our senior white house correspondent. I guess if youre the Vice President and looking at these poll numbers, maybe youre thinking, possibly, possibly. What are we hearing from the Vice President . Reporter absolutely. You have to know hes been thinking about this for a long time and his son beau who just died in may urged him to take this chance and run with it. But then the timing was so terrible personally for him. So you know hes been thinking about it but now we are getting word that hes been reaching out while on vacation this week to a few close friends, advisers, politicos, trying to get a better lay of the land as to what it would look like if he did make that decision to run now. No one really knows and over the last several weeks people that weve talked to have said they dont know. These are people close to him that say he really has to make that decision. First of all, he needs to grieve for his son, focus on his family and then focus on his work as Vice President and then when hes ready to make that decision. The poll numbers, 12 in iowa for somebody not even running, theres a poll that shows that they are split. Thats more than once elizabeth running, even though shes said she isnt going to run. For biden, its been the biggest mystery. Now were getting indications that the mystery could be solved very soon. Brooke . Yes. They say he would be the exception to throw in his name now, maybe later. Michelle kosinski, thank you. The iowa state fair, you have deepfried food on a stick. Got to love deepfried twinkies and president ial hopefuls. Today marks the start of the 11day fair which has become a right of passage for anybody who would like to become president of the United States. That means that right now many of the candidates are making a beeline for the Hawkeye State and some may need it a bit more than others. Cnn now has new republican numbers for the state of iowa and, surprise, surprise, trump is on top. Its worth noting here that this state belonged to scott walker just weeks ago who now sits in third place with just 9 . Poll numbers also have jeb bush falling out of the top five here. Carly fiorina continues her upward climb moving into the top five. Joining me now is m. J. Lee, our cnn politics reporter. Were six months away from the caucuses there. How many people are decided at this point there and how about even ben carson, number two . Reporter well, brooke, we are still a ways away from the Iowa Caucuses and at least twothirds of unlikely Republican Voters in iowa are undecided. That means that from now until six months from now, a lot could change but for the time being, youre right, donald trump is the frontrunner in the state of iowa. A lot of people in the poll said that they view him as a candidate who is best capable of handling issues like the economy, illegal immigration, terrorism and this is not surprising, people view him as a candidate who is best prepared to, you know, change the way that things work in washington. This, of course, has been very central to trumps candidacy. People are drawn to the fact that hes an outsider candidate, that hes not a politician the way that he loves to take on washington. That has been one of the things that people have loved the most about him. The question, of course, brooke, is whether someone like trump or ben carson can hold on to these numbers in a state like iowa where there are many conservatives and evangelical christians, they have tended to like folks like social conservatives like huckabee or rick santorum. So whether or not they can keep up these numbers and when voters find out more about their policy position, thats the thing to watch. And well be talking later. So many of them are in iowa. Donald trump, for one, though, will not be doing the soap box. So no hay bales in a suit. M. J. , thank you so much. Thank you. I want you to look at a face that we havent been talking about too much lately. In the top middle of your screen, ben carson, former neurosurgeon, now sitting at number two with 14 . He is the only africanamerican republican president ial candidate. Hes now likely just become the target of black lives matter activists after saying that the protesters are creating strife, to quote him. This president ial hopeful was interrupted by activists in that same group, jeb bush, meeting overnight before his Campaign Rally in nevada. That apparently didnt deter them and this happened. Black lives matter black lives matter black lives matter black lives matter white lives matter white lives matter joining me now, former religious Affairs Director at the white house and cofounder of partnerships, thank you for coming back, and assistant professor of policy harvard at Kennedy School and author of the loneliness of the black republican. So wonderful having both of you on, both of your voices. Josh, if i may, to you first, when you hear ben carson and him saying creating strife with regard to this, how may that alienate black voters . I find it ironic that the same man who compared the United States to nazi germany and obamacare was the worst thing to happen to our country since slavery is now complaining about people creating strife. You dont have to agree with everything in the black lives movement, but we have to agree that they are putting important issues on the table, like implicit bias and Police Brutality. I dont know if they were creating strife but they certainly are creating conversation and thats a good thing. What is he doing here, lea . I know you wrote a book on this and youre very knowledgeable about black republicans that you say is a microscopic population of voters and perhaps ben carson isnt going for that vote as much as he is for whom. For white voters. I mean, it makes perfect sense, right . So heres an opportunity to say, hey, look, i care about racial issues. I care about such and such. You know what, im actually trying to appeal to white middle of the road voters to show that i do care. And josh, to you, there was you talk a lot you cited this 2011 statistic cited during violent protests in ferguson, noting that homicide, when you look at these officerinvolved shootings of unarmed black american men and you go back to black on black violence, what is the point youre trying to make as we look at this conversation overall . I think they are two distinct conversations. We have to address every Community Needs to address violence in their own communities. Sure. But what its doing is raising deep issues of race in our country that weve really not paid attention to for a very long time. And i think its funny, were fixating on Bernie Sanders getting his mike droe phone snatched or Something Like that. But his black secretary is an activist. Yes. Absolutely. And im far more concerned with a woman dying in a texas jail cell under suspicious circumstances or nine africanamericans being killed in their church than i am about the civility of black lives matter protests. I think they are putting important issues on the table and i want to hear ben carsons plan for dealing with deep issues in america. I dont know that weve heard that a lot from any of these candidates. Hillary clinton has mentioned brutality in speeches but hes the only one with the racial unjustice platform. That said, let me loop back ta to that. Leah, Larry Wilmore said this. I agree that black lives matter but black matters as well. If were keeping it a hundred. If were keeping it a hundred and also based on the demographics. What do you think of that . Heres the thing. Respectability has gotten us where . How far . I think part of what matters is to move respectability off the table. What do you mean remove respectability off the table. Meaning its not going to stop people from being thrown in jail or getting shot. That people with college degrees, black men and women are still dying. And it force this is issue onto the table so people like ben carson have to come up with not just rhetoric but actual policy ideas and programs that will be designed to get these things moving and to have us have a real kind of substantive conversation and actual things that come out of these conversations. I was really struck the other night, yes, we covered how black lives matter and jeb bush yesterday and i think it was two nights ago there was a Hillary Clinton event, maximum capacity, some of these activists Hillary Clinton took 15 minutes of her own time to go meet with them facetoface which speaks volumes over how important this issue is. Final question to you, josh, on this point. When we talk about this question to the candidates, what is the answer . What is the platform that they need to explain to the voter . Well, you know, there are very specific policy platforms. We need to hear their response to police violence, implicit bias on police forces, how they are going to address criminal Justice Reform but then weve got to talk about deeper issues of violence and other parts of lives, whether its in our work system and how people are fired and hired and in other parts of our community. We need them to think critically about how to address these issues of race that weve had for hundreds of years. Black lives matters is putting it on that table. Josh, leah, thank you so much. Appreciate you both. Thank you. Next, the moment of impact caught on video. We have brandnew images of from that massive explosion killing dozens of people. Well take you there. It shook buildings, some even thought it was an earthquake. The damage left behind was just massive. Cnns will ripley is there. Will . Reporter right now were about a mile from the epicenter of the explosion and even from this distance and even as night has fallen, you can see how much damage there is. This is someones living room window that has been propelled down onto the street. Most of the windows of this building are shattered and the glass has been raining down on the pavement, especially when theres a big wind gust. The shifting winds are a concern for folks worried about the air quality. There are several airmonitoring stations up around the city right now because the plume of smoke that weve seen burning uncontrolled throughout the past 24 hours or so, that smoke plume is pushing chemicals, dangerous and toxic chemicals into the air and city officials acknowledge that the level of contaminants are higher than normal and could be dangerous if theres longterm exposure. For a short period of time, theres not as much of a risk but thats comfort for parents with children. You see a lot of people wearing these protective masks, face masks. You can see the Security Officials over here trying to get us to move away from the building and so well just step over in this direction here. We should point out that the Chinese Government is trying to control the message of it here. We were interrupted during a live shot by civilians but there were also uniformed officers in the group as well and social media posts about this tragedy have been deleted from some of chinas major social media sites. This is not an image that beijing wants to show the world. This is an economy driven by industry but there have been concerns for years not only about the safety conditions but also in this specific city there have been concerns raised that some of the fact industries with toxic chemicals are simply too close to peoples homes. And so the fact that you can have an explosion, a series of explosions and this much damage from a mile, more than a mile, some two kilometers away, its a troubling sign that the government here will have to address. She gets out and starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions and you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever. Okay. Moving on to that, whats ahead here . Brian stelter, media correspondent, host of reliable sources. Fox apparently responded to this whole thing by ignoring trump and now they have put aside their differences . Trump is such an unusual candidate and this feud went on all weekend. Fox stopped covering trump. They never played that blood comment. They didnt really cover the story except one time all weekend. It turns out, according to my sources on both sides of it, this was a nasty fight between fox and trump. Roger ales was and trump was furious and felt betrayed because he felt megyn kelly was too tough. The two men traded barbs and had a very blunt talk and agreed to settle their differences. There was going to be no apologizing from either side. Behind the scenes, there is still a lot of bitterness. So how is each side spinning it . What is it like for fox and trump . I think foxs priority was to get megyn kelly out of the headlines. She was doing her job and received a lot of praise for her tough questioning but the last thing trump wanted was this conversation about blood, her possibly having her period. That wasnt the way they wanted trump talking about their star anchor. And trump wanted megyn kelly to apologize for tough questioning. Thats where the two men agreed to disagree on monday and set things aside. The question is how long this truce will go on for. Theyve made peace for now. Trump needs fox news, fox news needs trump as well. Whether he feels appreciated by fox is something to be seen. Will he show up to future debates, for example. Thats a question up in the air. I know you have news on his beloved and successful reality show the apprentice. What are you learning . Nbc is not going to make a new season of the apprentice after all. Maybe by then hell be the nominee for president. Brian stelter, thank you. Thanks. New clues are emerging today in the death of a Clemson University student. His family is blaming the school, the fraternity, blaming three of its members for his death. One of the members named is a son of congress, john carney. They have filed a 25 million lawsuit. His body was discovered in a lake under a bridge and investigators say they couldnt figure out exactly what had happened and thus the criminal probe was stalled. Now the family says a witness has come forward with graphic details about hazing and a coverup. Joining me now, cnn investigation correspondent sara ganim and criminal attorney eric guster. This is a mystery going on for nearly a year. His parents have been wondering what happened to him. Did he jump off the bridge, was he forced to jump . The family attorney has said all along because of hazing rituals at this fraternity, pledges were often asked to jump off bridges and swim to shore and we know from the familys lawsuit that the brothers were upset with tucker that morning because he was supposed to bring them mcdonalds breakfast and didnt have the money to pay for it so now this witness has come forward and said that he saw something that morning and this is giving the family new hope that they may understand finally what happened. I want to read to you a little from the lawsuit. They believe that tucker was forced to walk along the railing of that bridge and they say, quote, tucker slipped from the railing and caught the railing under his arms, tried to climb back onto the bridge unassisted, lost his grip on the bridge and fell headfirst on the water below striking his head on the rocks. Afterwards, the lawsuit claims that the brothers tried to cover up what happened, that they did not report him missing to the police, even lied to his girlfriend about where he was saying that he was seen in the library. I talked to his mom yesterday. I want to tell you what she told me. Shes obviously heartbroken. She said it does answer some questions. It connects some of the dots. His dad and i miss him so terribly. Hes still the first and last thing we think about every day and hes just terribly missed. Of course shes still left to wonder whether her son died due over mcdonalds biscuits. All of the defendants in this case have denied this allegation and sam carney, the son of representative john carney, said he did not see anything and doesnt know how tucker went over that bridge. Obviously your heart goes out for this family and, you know, she says that some of the dots are being connected. But when i look at this, eric, i look at a lot of pieces of this puzzle and a lot of versions of events. As an attorney how do you approach this . What does your gut tell you . The way to approach this is try to get someone to talk. There is a civil litigation aspect of it and possibly the criminal aspect. They have not been charged criminally. Which means that under the civil action, where they may subpoena witnesses, may be forced to testify in depositions, swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, they may tell someone may tell exactly what happened in order to cover themselves. Because when you have a bunch of fraternity boys, they tend to do things as a group. And so people will start talking. Even if they werent there, even if a person was not there, they may know what happened because im sure some of these members told someone else and now with civil litigation aspect, they are trying to get to the bottom of it to see exactly who knew what, who did what and, more importantly, who did not do something, who did not jump in the water to save this young man. Who did not call the police and tell them what happened and who lied to the police, which are a different set of charges from the possible manslaughter charge that may come. There are so many charges that so many of them will be facing that im sure they have lawyered up and will be careful if they testify. Then there is also the role here of this university, the fraternity. Sara, just quickly, i assume there are antihazing rules in place at clemson . Yes. And the allegations are that they were broken. And there are allegations that they were broken before tucker died and his mother was quite upset about that. She said, look, they were hesitant as parents to let their child pledge a fraternity. Weve been talking about hazing in the news a lot. They went to the University Orientation and asked all of the right questions and they are upset because they say clemson only told them essentially the good stuff. Right. They said that kids in frats have higher gpas and they study together but they didnt talk about the history of this particular fraternity. The mother told me that if they had known there were other violations, they would not have allowed him to continue to pledge at that fraternity. So eric, depending on where the truth lies, the fate of the fraternity hangs in the balance and what does the university need to do . The university has to fully investigate the fraternity and fraternity members. Because the fraternity could be, as we say, pulled off the yard, their charter could be pulled from the auuniversity and that goes to whether there will be National Action against this chapter or if they will suspend the members where its called a death sentence nmembership wher they suspend it for five or six years to make sure that all of those people are wiped out in order to protect the name because with all of the fraternity issues that weve had with deaths, hazing rituals, people being hurt, the fraternity is an organization and a corporation that has to protect it is own interests, protect its money and name and thats what they are going to have to do. Just to jump in here, brooke, they did suspend all of the fraternities at clemson after this happened and they did suspend this particular chapter for a long period of time. Eric, sara ganim, stay on it for you. Thank you so much. Well be right back. This is the night i have most been looking forward to in our series called the seventie a and, if i may, i spoke to a young woman who is playing carole king in one of my favorite musicals in new york. Looking out on the morning rain shes been hitting all of the right notes. You make me feel the 1972 album of the year and ultimately one of the bestselling albums of all time. But becoming carole king on broadway is no easy task. I went backstage with shalina kennedy who transforms into the legend almost nightly in a tonyaward winning show called beautiful. So much of it is about her journey from being a 16yearold who is incredibly brave and fearless, like marching into donny kershners office saying, i have a song. And being a girl, im as good of a songwriter as anybody else. But before carole king became an artist and joined with taylor, she penned hit after hit with her husband. In that era, how much she wrote, how much of the music that we know that is in our dna that not a lot of people realize when they walk in, they will be singing every word. She is truly prolific. Just the sheer amount of number one hits that she wrote is just spectacular. One fine day do you have a favorite . Oh, my gosh. Thats like asking to pick a favorite child but im putting you on the spot. I feel like youve got a friend is one of my favorites and also because of the generosity behind it and how she gave that to james taylor before she ever recorded it. She was like, here you go. Make it super famous. And ill be there yes i will be there youve got a friend theres a moment in the show which is my favorite which is will you still love me tomorrow. Tonight youre mine completely you give your love so sweetly tonight in your eyes but will you love me tomorrow they wrote so many of these great love songs and hits together and so much love between them. Things happened and they had their troubles but at the end of it all, you know, the love stayed between them. So what mark did carole king leave on the decade remembered for its iconic music . How do you think music of that era influences music today . With bands today, there is so much that is perfected. Back in the 70s you would sit its raw. Yeah. You sit and sing your songs and if its bad you do another one. Back in tapestry time, it was very much a we, a collaborative music scene and carole talks about this in her book in terms of jamming with people, that theres always a time to stop and to listen and theres always a time to play. Aint it good to know youve got a friend and no pressure, but shalina and Jesse Mueller who originated the role on broadway have met the woman whose life they portrayed on stage. Tell me about the moment that you first met carole king . She has a particular piano style. She sat down and really showed me how she plays her stuff. And so to sit next to her and watch her play, it was just incredible. I mean, i have no words. It was amazing. It was amazing. I feel the earth move i will shatter glass. Will you give me one line of something. Looking out on the morning rain i used to feel uninspired you make me feel like a natural woman thank you. Its beautiful on broadway. Watch tonight at 9 00 on cnn. All right. Hour two here. This is cnn. Im brooke baldwin. 19 president ial hopefuls about to descend on one crucial place that could make or break their bid for the president ial race. Thats right. Iowa, state fair, buttered cow. This fair is a right of passage for anyone hoping to become president. Cnn has a Surprising New poll number. Lets start with the republicans here. Until a couple of weeks ago, scott walker was on top but now slipped into third place pushed out by, as you can see, donald trump, ben carson. The poll numbers also have jeb bush falling out of the top five there and Carly Fiorina moving on up and in. As for the democrats in iowa, Hillary Clinton at 50 followed by Bernie Sanders and then, i know youre looking at the screen thinking, hang on a second. Is he running . Vice president joe biden. Do the president ial hopefuls have something to be worried . Cnn has learned that Vice President biden has been speaking to his aides and weighing his options while on vacation in South Carolina. Let me bring in Jackie Kucinich and ben wedemen. Jackie first. Like hillary hes progressive, of course, but not like Bernie Sanders. He take it is to another level, which is why hes a socialist. I think its more for dangerous for hillary than sanders. We dont know what hes going to do. Ben ferguson, are you a breaking bad fan . Yes, i am. Bryan cranston just made comments about donald trump. We have them. Theres something so refreshing about snaking up that world that is all about being handled and here comes this loose cannon who has terrible ideas. And would be a horrible president. But theres something great about his i dont give a [ bleep ] attitude that really kind of keeps others honest. Is that, ben ferguson, what it is . Is that the Donald Trumps special sauce that has so many people in america yeah. Look, hes the guy who just doesnt really care what other people think of him and so thats refreshing in politics, when everything is so scripted at this level and theres alsos an idea that there hasnt been a big leader in the Republican Party taking on Health Care Worker or barack obama for the last six, seven years. And so donald trump said, hey, im going to figure that void and youre going to hate me. If you dont hate me, youre absolutely going to love me. Thats the reason you see his poll numbers stay consistent. You see his unfavorability numbers, which is outstanding, how many people cannot stand him. This is on both sides of the aisle. Look where Bernie Sanders has gone to now. Hes leading in the primary states, which no one would have guessed a month or two ago. You look at it and say, maybe theres an opportunity for the candidates on both sides. Let me stay with you because i think one person not really interested in learning more about Ohio Governor john kasich, he did well in that debate in cleveland. By the way, hes the only republican candidate not attacking Hillary Clinton, not attacking a single republican opponent. Im wondering if this whole staying above the fray will, in the end, help him or does he need to throw an elbow . I think its going to help him and if you watch his style over his entire career, hes not a guy to go out there and have these big political fights or wars with specific individuals. Hes an idea guy and as a governor, thats one of the things that hes done so well of working with others on ideas and thats why people love him in a state and thats what hes trying to do, saying, look, im not going to be donald trump, im not going to be ted cruz. Im going to be who i am. If you want great ideas, you want actual plans, im the candidate for you and i think people that are watching, they really connected with them and they are going to connect where the voters want the same thing. Jackie, i want to ask you about Carly Fiorina because she did well in that jv debate, or whatever you want to call it. Her numbers are rising and im wondering if republicans are looking at her as a possible political weapon to sort of unseed donald trump as that frontrunner position on the republican side and potentially as a woman, for one thing, hurt Hillary Clinton. Shes pit herself against Hillary Clinton from the very beginning of this campaign. I remember her cpac speech. She was talking about Hillary Clinton, benghazi and the email issue. In terms of her going after trump, i dont know who can untrump trump. Because you would think that if you can go after Carly Fiorina and say all of these other outrageous things, are people really going to care . Its an open question because nothing has really stuck to him yet. Maybe hes his own worst enemy at the end of the day. I was wondering, if she were to be on the stage, how she would potentially be back and forth and throw some elbows, potentially, at donald trump. Well have to watch and wait. September 16th, i cant wait. Jackie kucinich and ben ferguson, thank you. An International Model graced the cover of a magazine topless but could she be the first lady of the United States . To marry a man like donald is you know, you need to know who you are and you need to be very strong and smart and, you know, he needs to know that he could rely on me sometimes, you know, and we share a lot of stuff together. The media storm that followed Donald Trumps controversial comments about one of the debate moderators megyn kelly last week forced him to double down against her tweeting this. Oh really, check out innocent discussion megyn kelly on howard stern a couple of years ago. I am the innocent one. So our senior digital correspondent chris moody did digging into the radio archives. Hes in des moines, iowa. Chris, howard stern, in my opinion, is one of the best interviewers out there, but nothing really is off limits no matter who comes on his show. So that said, when you looked into the trump interviews, how graphic, how offensive were they . Reporter well, it was pretty typical fair but for a person running for president , which he was not at that time, its type of conversations that weve never heard of before from president ial candidates. Lets just say it delved into issues of the bedroom and the bathroom. They also spent a lot of time talking about womens bodies, rating women, how good they were looking. Again, stuff you dont hear from people who are running for president. Just take a listen. Who is more beautiful, Scarlett Johansson or Jennifer Lawrence . You know, i think they are both fun. Jennifer has a little skin problem, i would say. Uhhuh. A little rough with the skin. Polka dots all over the place. So Scarlett Johansson is more beautiful . Yes, i guess. Between Kim Kardashian and jennifer lopez, who is more beautiful . Kim kardashian, you have to hand it to her, give me a break is her ass too big, donald . Well, absolutely. Of course. Its record setting. Are you attracted to that no. In the old days they would say she has a bad body. Reporter thats stuff youll never hear from another president ial candidate except for donald trump. As you pointed out, not quite suitful for this audience. I am curious, do other politicians stay away from the howard stern show when they are doing their rounds . Reporter i think if youre a consultant, you would say thats something you want to avoid because he will ask you very up front questions, questions you can read about at cnnpolitics. Com where we have the full story. But its a position they dont want to put the candidates in front of, having to confront very personal questions. But donald trump for many years was an entertainer, someone in the public life. He fielded it fairly well given the circumstances. Quickly, chris, not doing you any favors with regard to women, it is, i feel like, his bluntness that his supporters thats what they like. Reporter well, what is very interesting is that people dont mind the things that he says because they are so fed up, honestly, with washington, d. C. , far more fed up with washington than they are from an outsider. They see somebody who can come in and change the system in the way no one else can. There is a cnn poll released this week and the question was who is most probable to change washington . And 44 said donald trump. And i think thats the part that is resonating. Yes. Not necessarily the stuff that hes talking about where hes talking about. Certainly not reading women on the howard stern show. Chris, thank you. Check out his piece, what he dug up. Go to cnn. Com. Once media got ahold of this sketch, it took on a life of its own. Its been inspiring memes. You have the brady bunch and then the e. T. One and joining me by the phone here, james rose senbe enberg, thank you for joining me. Before we talk, i want to show you some of the work. Dzhokhar tsarnaev and others. Before you begin this process, how do you determine i dont know, how to portray the individual . I dont really have a determination of how im going to portray somebody until i see them in the courtroom and if they have an emotion, thats what im aiming to portray. I do the best i can, just see it in front of me and try to capture what i see. Thats what i meant when youre in the courtroom and looking at these different people. When you saw tom brady in that federal courtroom and you drew what were looking at and now all of this im sure it totally took you by surprise meme. What did you think . Tom brady is a very handsome guy, very good looking. When im doing a courtroom sketch, im working quickly and i dont try to make them look beautiful. I do the best to capture what their gesture is and show a story of whatever i can. I did the best i could. Ive gotten a lot of cruel comments and ive also gotten a lot of support. So im getting thousands of emails. Listen, dont read all of them. Youre a professional. Youve been doing this for 35 years. Yes, tom brady is not ugly and maybe people are frustrated by that. I dont know if youre in new york. Im not a football fan at all. Im sorry. I dont even watch football. I had to look on the internet to see who tom brady was. Incredible. Let me bring in another voice, christine cornell, another artist who was in the courtroom. What do you make of all of this online over a courtroom sketch . Do you think its fair . You know, its just kind of funny stuff. Tom brady is such a celebrity. They care about every single thing. Personally we have bad days and the drawing is jane always goes for the emotional impact of things and shes really fabulous at making it very punchy and strong and, you know, in this case, the guy is just famously pretty. Difference. W, theres just a do you think thats what it is . Drawing celebrities, we all know their faces and is that why people so quickly are awful, are mean . You know, it happened to me once when i drew uma thurman and you might find the one i did of her because, you know, she was just so had such a fair pallet. With no makeup and looking sad, i remember that. They dont look like movie stars when they are in the courtroom, in general. They dont look hollywood glammed up. She looked pretty sad and wiped out and no makeup, plain. Yeah. And maybe tom brady, i imagine hes pretty irked that hes not playing the first four games. That was your interpretation as the artist and whoever thought wed be talking about this, especially after 35 years. Jane, you said youve never had anything like this. Best of luck to both of you. Christine, jane, thank you both for joining me. Thank you. Coming up next, the Justice Department is opening a civil rights investigation into the death of a white teenager at the hands of police. They say they dont trust the police and they want to seek justice. Im joined by the hammonds. I have paul and angie with me and one of their attorneys, eric land. To both of you, my sincerest condolences, paul and angie, thank you for joining me. Thank you. Angie, what has this past month been like for you . Total hell, if i can be frank. Its nothing that you would ever expect. You dont expect the coroner to come to your house and tell you that your son is dead and especially hes been shot. Its just its just hard. Very hard. I cannot even begin to imagine. But at least now i know youve been calling for this federal investigation. We know now that the doj will launch this probe. Your reaction to that, paul . Were glad to see an outside source. We cant seem its been three weeks this coming sunday and we still have no more answers and were glad to see an outside party taking a look because we dont see anything from the local police and we really have questions about our local solicitor. Wed like somebody from the outside to come in. A lot of these cases weve been covering, sadly, for more than a year, theres been some sort of a video and in your case i know that there is a Police Dash Cam video. Its yet to be released. You know, there have always been questions in these cases what is written in the police reports. How much trust do you have in what has been written down . None. Our trust has been completely shaken to the core. We have no trust in what were told. When the stories keep changing, how do you trust Something Like that . Yeah. The Police Officer here who shot and killed your son, i understand he has not been red. He is on administrative leave. Im wondering if prior to any official investigation, have you all communicated . Did he reach out to you at any point in time . No. Weve had no communication with the Seneca Police department at all. We have had contact from the county Sheriffs Department and they reached out to us as well as tim scott called yesterday. Senator scott . Yes. Senator scott. I know that you all are frustrated. Are you feeling anger . I imagine it is anger as well. Yes. Over what has happened with your son. But, you know, a lot of these cases, as i mentioned, a lot of these shootings have been caught on some kind of video or, in other cases, involving when the victim is africanamerican, it was brought to light by the black lives matter movement. Weve heard a lot of africanamerican voices with regard to all of this. But you said that youre frustrated that this hasnt been covered more. Well, it just seems like it took a week for anybody to notice. You know, i think every life matters, not just one or the other. We all matter. Every life matters. We feel like the Police Department doesnt feel like his life mattered. Thats the way they make us feel, anyway. Yes. Im wondering and i hear you and i know ive heard other people say all lives matter but prior to losing your son, were you at all involved in any of these movements . Theres been a lot of activism, you know, with regard to Police Brutality or has it been until this happened to you that you are now outraged . We never liked it. Where we live, it just things like this never really happened and so we felt for the parents and everyone that was involved but when it happens to you, it affects your heart. And i feel just close to, you know, everyone thats ever had to go through this. I just feel a bond, i guess, and i understand now what they really are going through. What they go through. Yes. Where i didnt before. You shouldnt have to wait three weeks to get answers to what happened. You shouldnt have to wait that long. Eric, whats the next step here . Well, obviously were waiting for the federal Justice Department to come and investigate and they are set up better than any department to do this. They have the skill set, they have the personnel, they have the experience. They dont have friends to reward or enemies to punish like some of the local people that may be involved in this. So the next move is, one, we need to the dash cam to be released, the video. It is what it is. It shows what it shows. Its not going to change unless somebody manipulates or modifies it. Release it now just like they have done in every other type of shooting. The second thing is, we would like our state attorney general, allen wilson, the chief prosecutor of the state, to strongly consider taking over this case. And then obviously were waiting to see if this officer is going to be brought to justice. Angie and paul hammond, again, im so sorry for your loss. Please, lets stay in communication with you all and see when and if that video gets released. Thank you both so much. Eric, my thanks to you. Thank you. Appreciate it. Well be right back. How rare are these kinds of massive sharks . Oh, my goodness, brooke. I almost looked away when i saw this footage. Three things i was thankful for. One, that i was not in the water. And i was wondering, is she pregnant or did she eat something really big . Its pretty remarkable to see a great white shark this large, this, shall we say, rubinesque. As weve discussed before, sharks are the ultimate apex predator, right . So theyre the ultimate reflection of the health of an ecosystem. So when you see a big, mighty female shark like this, it tells you it lives in a very robust, healthy ecosystem. Robust, yes. This is sort of a random question, but how many babies when youre looking at a shark this large . Thats an excellent question. They can have anywhere between two and six babies. No kidding. And it belongs to the same group of sharks that includes the maco sharks. When they give birth, shell give birth to a fivefootlong, 40 to 50pound baby shark. They have a live birth. Im glad i asked. And also, the shark was found off the coast of mexico. Is this where theres a lot of shark activity . We are seeing tremendous bursts in the population of great white sharks around the world. And theres two reasons why. One is were not vilifying the great white sharks. We protect them more. Theyre more respected. Were seeing more here in new england, we have a huge bumper crop of seals. And more seals means more predators. And in the case of seals and sea lions, its great white sharks. South africa, coasts of mexico, coast of australia and california is where were starting to see a lot of great white shark activity. And quickly when you see a shark of this size, granted, were thinking shes pregnant, but does size and aggression are those one in the same, or not necessarily . The great shark question, does size matter . Thats what im asking the truth is, youre really no more in jeopardy of a shark, whether its gigantic or small. Sharks rarely prey on human beings. You have about a one in 11 million chance of being attacked. But if you are that unlikely, or unlu unlucky, it doesnt matter how big or how lumber she looks, she is a stealthy predator. She could quickly climb to speeds of 15 to 20 miles per hour. Pretty to look at in video. Well just keep it there. You are the best. Thank you so much. Thanks. And before i let you go, a quick reminder, the 70s focuses on music, and what a decade it was. You had super groups like led zeppelin, earth, wind, and fire, to name a few, and emerging voices like the queen of disco, donna summer, david bowie, and these guys. Oh sweet darling got the best of my love you get the best of my love oh oh oh sweet darling the best of my you get the best of my love the eagles. That song best of my love topped the charts in march of 1975, cowritten by don henley, glenn frey, and i talked about the decade, and j. D. s new album. A lot of the music dominated the first half of the 70s and some into the second half was the soft pretty stuff, james taylor, carole king, eagles. So it doesnt really get to those places until later. But it was a fertile time to write and make music, or any kind of art. I think the salient thing about making art in the 70s was that the 60s had already happened. We had a beautiful fertile field of new ideas and new directions and a lot of really crazy and great and profound influences to work off of. This album has the same things internally for me that i was doing in the 70s. I had great stuff to build on. And in this case, i had some rich, happy or not, developments in my personal life. And i began to reach back further into the music id heard since i was a little kid. My father was a big band singer. His mother was an opera singer. So theres been music in my house all along. But during the last two or three years of writing this record, i felt all those things kind of rushing together again. Very much like they did in the 70s. Im so pleased with this album, i can hardly stand myself. J. D. Souther, thank you so much. Do not miss the music of the 70s tonight at 9 00 eastern, right here on cnn. That does it for me here today in atlanta. Im brooke baldwin. Jim sciutto is in for jake tapper. The lead starts now. Is there enough support and enough doubt in Hillary Clinton to lure joe biden from the sidelines . Im jim sciutto and this is the lead. The politics lead. Biden his time. The buzz around the Vice President and a possible White House Run gets louder. As the democratic field gets less predictable. Could a decision be just days away . And the world lead. [ bleep ]. Whoa mystery surrounding an explosion so massive that it registered as an earthquake in china. Families now afraid they will
