Own. Tunisia, that massacre in a museum where at least 23 people died. Most of them Foreign Tourists from europe japan, australia, colombia many of those victims traveled there aboard two cruise ships which docked today in spain. Some spoke about narrowly evading the tragedy. We realized what happened. We turn the television on and tunisia. And then you realize that you escaped from it but other people are not lucky. Let me take you now back to Nick Paton Walsh who is in lebanon speaking about these mosque attacks in sanaa in the capital city of yemen. Let me try this again, nick. What are you hearing . How authentic are these isis claims that they did this . Reporter they come both in written form and audio statement from channels that have in the past carried similar isis messages. The problem with that claim is that isis have in the past not known to have much of a capability in yemen. There have been militants in yemen who asked for their leader of isis to accept their pledge of allegiance and they accepted it but until today it was unclear whether they were able to mount an attack like this. Now something has happened in the last hour that has added significant weight to isis claim of responsibility and thats the other potential other main suspect of an attack like this. Multipronged suicide bombing against shia mosques in which there was one blast within the crowd of worshippers and then another intended to kill potentially those who rushed in to help. Al qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula you would think would be behind Something Like this other sunni Extremist Group says they didnt do it and says they wouldnt target crowds and gatherings like this. Thats adding potential to the credibility of isis claim. A deeply troubling moment because we know that isis wanted a foothold in yemen and they are in competition with al qaeda across the world for recruits to the city Extremist Movement but we didnt think they were able to get their foothold into yemen right now and the real trouble potentially about this is this is isis trying to ferment sectarian violence. Shia muslims targeted by sunni extremist bombers could add to a country on the brink of collapse. Shia muslims being attacked or fighting with sunni extremists and muslims. If that comes to yemen, that could take a country thats been a hotbed of al qaeda to a whole new level of chaos. We thought isis only had a small presence in yemen. This is incredibly significant. Nick paton walsh, thank you so much. Let me move on to this one particular voice speaking of isis and whats happening in the middle east and beyond. One voice that could really be crucial in deciding how the u. S. Handles the ricese of terror in this part of the world. Im talking about this man here. Former cia director general David Petraeus the man who left the position in disgrace. Next week he faces sentencing for leaking classified information to his mistress. Heresing this heres something that may surprise you. He still has president obamas ear and has a lot to say about whats going on in the middle east. So im joined now by the woman who just interviewed him. Shes liz sly, Beirut Bureau chief for the washington post. Also joining me a former cia officer and officer of job breaker. To both of you, welcome. Pleasure. Thank you. Liz, let me begin with you. You have this great interview here and having read it a couple times over a few headlines jumped out at me but i want to begin with you as to what general petraeus told you when you asked about iraq. You asked about his biggest worry and his answer wasnt isis. Tell me what he told you. Thats right. General petraeus says that the biggest longterm threat to the security of iraq and the region could actually be the rise of the shia militias who we are seeing make considerable progress on the battlefield at the moment. You see support from iran and guidance from iran and its going to perpetuate the rivalries that we see going on there and so he identified that as a bigger longterm concern. He also gary this is for you. In this interview with liz he talked a lot about iran. It seems to me theres definitely worry. He said that the power in the middle east irans power in the middle east is a double problem more poised to take over iraq. Whats your read on that . Clearly he is concerned about iran as are many people. His statements run contrary to what the administration is doing. If hes advising the administration theyre not listening to him. What we see right now is maybe not a formal alliance but an Informal Alliance with iran and irans interests are being amplified across iraq right now. And that does not portend well for the future of iraq. On syria, liz, he said hes profoundly worried about meltdown in syria which he referred to as a geopolitical chernobyl. Did he offer solutions . He didnt offer Precise Solutions but he made it clear he does not agree with the administrations policy on syria. The administrations syria policy is that with isis in iraq first and put syria to be dealt with later. Hes saying you cannot deal with them separately. You need to deal with them at the same time because allowing the instability to continue in syria is as he says just going to spew chaos and extremism across the region for a long time to come. Gary again, just sort of with this 20,000 foot view knowing that this is a man who is integral in iraq with the surge in 07 and 08 but also a man who is pleading guilty to leaking classified information to his mistress and sentencing is next week and here he is advising the Obama Administration still. Does that give you any pause . It gives me no pause at all. David petraeus is a national hero. What happened with his mistress is a separate issue. His knowledge of the region is really unmatched and ill say this. You know we need to focus on what he said on isis and what he said about the sunni areas. We should not have shia militias going in and attacking in areas where there are sunni populations unless you have a hold plan. You are going to make the situation worse. I read the article very very carefully. His ideas have been put foord very clearly. Very carefully. Its insightful. And the administration would be smart to listen to him and what hes saying right now. Gary liz, thank you. He has collapsed. This is video that shows him seated. Hes bent over. Law enforcement attending to him. L. A. Times reporting that at one point he was unconscious. Lets go to los angeles to stephanie elam. The big question is what happened in the courtroom . What was the judge saying that predicated this collapse . Reporter this is big news for him to find out that his bail was set at 25 billion. This all stems from a case that started on january 29th when they allege that suge knight hit somebody and then hit another man and that one man died. There they are charging him with hit and run. When he found out that he was getting bail set this high this is when he reportedly collapsed. Our affiliate abc 7 says the Attorney Says that suge knight collapsed because of stress and lack of treatment for his diabetes and hit his head and was unconscious for a bit of time there. If he does get convicted in this case he faces life in prison. Its worth noting this is not the first time hes collapsed in a courtroom since this event started on january 29th when this hit and run started. This is second time weve seen this with him collapsing in court. Today it was right after he found out his bail was set at 25 million. Stephanie elam thank you, my friend. Lets take you to mississippi now. Mystery in mississippi. A black man was found hanging from a tree and investigators are now trying to figure out how he died. This is a rural town of port gibson. The body is believed to be that of 54yearold otis byrd. Searchers found the body yesterday deep in the woods near his home. He had been missing for about two weeks. He was in a wooded area about a quarter mile down in the woods. He was near an area where someone had gone to do hunting. We got down there and we seen a man that had a bed sheet tied around his neck. Ed lavandera is there live in port gibson mississippi. A News Conference is coming up shortly. What could we learn there . Reporter this is expected to happen around 4 00 eastern time brooke. The local sheriff here in the town of port gibson, mississippi, where we are and federal and state investigators immediately called into the scene after the discovery of otis byrds body was made thursday here just outside of port gibson. We were told by the sheriff earlier today that the autopsy was being done on mr. Byrds body and perhaps they would get clues and clearer indication as to whether or not the folks here are dealing with a Murder Investigation or if otis byrd took his own life. He was last seen on march 2nd. On march 8th, his family officially reported him missing and a search team was going through the wooded area behind the home where he lived outside of port gibson when they made the discovery of his body hanging from a tree. We were able to get to that location earlier today you really have to work to get there. Incredibly dense area to get to the location where mr. Byrds body was found. The sheriff told me that as soon as he saw the scene for himself, a black man in mississippi hanging from a tree that he immediately called federal and state investigators to help him with the scene and to help process the scene and he knew that this would be a very tense situation. We spoke with the sheriff just a little while ago earlier today here in the town of port gibson. Is that your biggest fear that this was racially motivated . Yes. I dont want the community to get excited saying it was a white on black thing. Thats the worst thing that could happen is people making it into a race issue. Thats my biggest fear. I dont want that to happen. Thats i want the federal bureau of investigation and the Justice Department to come out here and help me get to the bottom of this. Reporter brooke lets be abundantly clear here. Nobody knows exactly for sure just yet what exactly the authorities here are dealing with whether this is a murder or whether this is a suicide, no one knows for sure. Given the way mr. Byrds body was found, thats why the sheriff here says out of an abundance of caution, they called in federal investigators and state investigators to help them. Brooke . You can understand given the history and the geography. Hopefully questions will be answered in that News Conference 40 minutes from now there in mississippi. Ed lavandera, my thanks to you. Prosecutors in the boston bombing trial showed off a slew of new evidence. Photos from the shootout with police. The pictures show parts of the Pressure Cooker bomb and inside peoples homes. One of the photos highlighted a Pressure Cooker embedded in a car door. Jurors also heard about radical jihadi materials. These investigators say they found on the computer. Jurors do have fridays off here. The state could rest next wednesday. Joining me from boston once again Casey Sherman and dave wedge, the authors of this really phenomenal book boston strong. Its a book about the bombing told through the eyes of all these survivors. Wonderful to have you. Welcome back. Thanks for having us. I want to talk about just the stories of these survivors and what its been like testifying but first to you, with the evidence presented, you covered the manhunt for the herald. When we talked at the time what do you make of the evidence presented thus far . The fact that the jurors were taken to the look at the bloody boat where Dzhokhar Tsarnaev hid out. Its compelling and emotional. For these survivors to see and feel and kind of almost even touch this stuff really brings it all home and i think it brings it home not only for jurors but for survivors that youre talking about. As you saw when you were here in boston this city was traumatized by what happened. This trial in some ways has opened up the old wounds but in other ways its helping to heal them as well because folks are being able to see justice being done. Let me ask about that. Just specifically who have you all spoken with who has testified in terms of opening raw wounds but perhaps helping in the healing process. What have they shared with you . Well i got to tell you, i mean this has really been some of the most heart wrenching testimony ever heard in an american courtroom. You are hearing the emotional stories of loss and strategy but you are actually seeing it. A lot of witnesses and survivors are being wheeled into the courtroom without legs without family members, et cetera. So weve talked to several family members the family of sean collier for example, the m. I. T. Police officer executed in his squad car and they are there every day listening to the testimony. Its been brutal but they want to get past this as quickly as possible. I would just add, brooke its inspiring to see these folks come in and really go through this exercise in trauma that they are going through and to see them take the stand one after another has really brought a lot of power to them. Can you be specific dave . Has there been any one particular piece of testimony or any one person who has walked in or wheeled in where testimony resonates for you and i know many jurors have been emotional. Well i think those first couple days to see someone like Celeste Corcoran walk in, double amputee and was as brave as anyone ive ever seen and as brave as those officers that chased those terrorists that day in watertown. And also roseann. She lost a leg and the Richard Family to see bill richard take the stand and he really speaks from the heart when he takes the stand and you cant help but be moved and inspired by that strength. Talking about we can actually see the physical cues or lack thereof of the bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as hes listening to this testimony. Its amazing that we do see that as defense attorney occasionally rubs his back during the course of the trial but there is a very incredible lack of emotion from dzhokhar when we hear this brutal testimony and its almost like hes fighting emotion but hes not fighting tears or heartache. Hes fighting a smirk and a smile. We can look directly in his eyes and its frightening what we see. Back to survivors. Let me just ask you two this. I know you asked a lot of these people and you asked families for items for mementos from that day or that time when the bombs had gone off. Hows the response been so far and what have they given you . So theres an opening of a new exhibit at the National Crime museum in washington, d. C. This week and actually one of the items that was donated or loaned to the museum is the cowboy hat from carlos. The famous marathon hero weve seen iconic picture of him saving jeffs life and the hat that carlos is wearing in that picture is now on display in the National Crime museum in d. C. Along with several other items. Again, its really inspiring thing to see these folks put those items on display. Thats awesome. Thats absolutely awesome. Casey sherman and dave wedge, thank you both. Federal prosecutors are poring through schocks spending reports as hes packing up to leave at the end of the month. Irs and u. S. Postal service are also investigating and the fbi has begun serving subpoenas in washington and illinois according to people familiar with this probe. Schocks troubles began a couple weeks ago when he had the walls of his new Congressional Office painted to this brilliant bright red here with feathers and photos and such to resemble a room from the tv drama Downton Abbey. Wasnt cheap. 40,000 in cost. That bold decorating decision attracted a lot of attention and a lot of questions. Our senior washington correspondent has been in said office. Hes spoken with the congressman. We can get to that color in just a moment. Also with me is senior legal analyst jeff toobin. What exactly are the fbi and federal prosecutors, what are they looking at . Brooke what we believe that theyre looking at are three different categories of things. The first is the mileage reimbursements. He paid for a new suv through campaign funds, which is perfectly legal. He also put in for a significant number of miles that he was reimbursed by the taxpayers by the federal government. So thats one thing that theyre looking at. Its a case of double dipping if you will. They are also im told looking at if he was flying on any donors planes from washington to peoria around the country or the world. We know he liked to travel so much. They are also looking at any inkind contributions. That means contributions that donors gave him for putting on events that he or his campaign didnt pay for. Thats what we believe theyre looking inging at. I talked to people who were served subpoenas by the fbi and they are invited in fact requested to appear at a grand jury in springfield, illinois. First confirmation that the fbi is looking into this case. Okay. Jeff toobin i would love your reaction to all of the above but also my question would be when we talk about his flights and this office et cetera who is writing the checks and checking the books . Is it staff in . Ultimately the buck stops with him. Thats an important question. The issue with a criminal investigation is criminal intent. If he made a mistake, if staff made a mistake, he still has to give back the money that he got improperly but its not criminal. If they can show that he knew he was seeking out reimbursements for trips he didnt take or for excessive mileage, thats what makes it criminal. If you make a mistake, you still have to give back the money but even if you give back the money and you got it in a bad way, you could still be liable criminally. Its about what you were thinking at the time. We cant crawl into his mind. It does make you wonder when this broke the other day and i was talking to jeff and drew who recently profiled him and he seemed cool as a cucumber. I wonder if he would have known that this federal probe was coming when he sent out the statement saying he would be resigning. It certainly seemed like a lot of things were stacking up. The whole thing was so embarrassing. Brooke i have to tell you though that Office Design looks just like your office. Right. Sure it does. Sure it does. Did you use the same decorator . Please. Just kidding. I think that it was an accumulation of factors that made him politically unsaveable but the question of whether he can actually be prosecuted all goes to the question of whether he really was intending to steal money from the government. Okay. The red is just lovely isnt it . I would like a window. Thats what i would like. Jeff toobin thank you very much. Robinsons mother says her sons death is part of a quote unquote, epidemic of killings by Police Officers. The mother of Tony Robinson joins me now from madison. My condolences to you. How are you holding up . I have to take care of my other kids and right now its really not even real yet. Im still just trying to wrap my mind around all thats going on. Youre wrapping your mind around whats going on in your own personal family situation, but then you have this uva arrest we were just showing the photos of this junior at university of virginia martese johnson, and your first thought, i was reading the interview, in which you call this an epidemic. Can you explain what you mean . I feel like that the relationship between Police Officers and communities as a whole has just been taken to a level where its next to none. There seems to be fear on both sides and the things that are happening with my sons murder and then even the thing that just happened with this young man, it shows that there needs to be some form of readjustment of police procedure. Things need to change. The fear needs to go away. The lines of communication need to be open to the point where this needs to stop. My son being dead this young man being hurt i havent had an opportunity to look at everything thats been happening, but it just goes to show that when i have been seeing that the procedures itself need to be reevaluated and changed. We can see that happening in front of us daily now. You mentioned fear a moment ago. I have had a lot of conversations with people parents who said yes, i tried to sit my son, my daughter down even before any of this happened, particularly you know africanamerican families and im wondering if you had a conversation with your son ever before about race about dealing with police if he were ever in any kind of confrontation. Yeah, absolutely. We had many conversations. My son and i were very open. He followed the things that happened in ferguson closely. He did. My son has never had a bad encounter with the police so we never thought that we had to talk about these situations. My son was he was very active in taking part of he wanted to promote change and this is something he spoke much about, wanting to change the world and you know make it so that its a better place for everyone, police and citizens. So i mean this is amazing to me that this happened to my son, the fact that he talked at length about the things that were happening, Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown and the turnaround in him now being part of this i have no words to even express how ironic i think it is that my son is now etched forever as one of these same people. I have 40 seconds left with you. In the 40 seconds, would you mind just telling me about your son . What do you miss about him the most . I miss his smile. I miss him calling my name. I miss his big hugs when i lay my head on his chest. My gentle giant, i miss him. My kids miss him. He was a wonderful, wonderful boy. His light is gone from my life and its the darkness that i feel is so painful. He was a great kid. Just trying to find himself. That was it. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart prayers for you and your family andrea irwin. Thank you so much for coming on and sharing your thoughts. I really truly appreciate it. Im brooke baldwin.
