Seat, ernst has taken a sevenpoint lead. You have that. Then you have this. In georgia, another hope for democrats may be waning as a weekend poll show Republican David Perdue outdrawing michelle nunn. West virginia, south dakota, montana, these are democratic seats right now but will not be after tomorrow. We can pretty much say that for sure there. Three more takeaways and do the math. The gop owns the senate. Hugely important election. Heres cnns dana bash. Reporter political stars came out for the final election day push. For republicans, jeb bush, marco rubio, chris christie. Our Republican Party is at its best. We can walk and chew gum at the same time. Reporter for democrats, Hillary Clinton hit three states for female senate candidates. Who is going to be there for you . Who cares about you . Who works for you . Reporter bill clinton went to iowa. I can tell you this, you need to vote for progress and not protest and you need to think about what you want for the next six years. Reporter still republican and democratic sources say the gop looks increasingly likely to seize the Senate Majority and iowa, where james taylor played made it appear peace rally than pep rally is a big reason why. Reporter democrats are down about iowas Crucial Senate race after a weekend poll show republican joanie ernst pulling ahead. Its republicans and independents and democrats that see the need to change direction. Reporter iowa is critical to the balance of power that Senate Majority leader harry reid told democratic volunteers in a Conference Call if they lose iowa, it will be hard for democrats to keep control of the senate. Republicans need to flip six senate seats to take control. West virginia, montana, south dakota, which was briefly in flux, now almost sure to be gop pickups. Democrats are bracing for incumbent defeats in arkansas and colorado. Early colorado voting shows republicans eight points ahead of democratic balance. Democrats also say losing alaska is likely. They have engageded in an unprecedented turnout operation and democrats feel better about North Carolina and New Hampshire but polls show both within the margin of error and there are wild cards. The republican incumbent in kansas could lose to an independent. They have been far too partisan for far too long. Reporter louisiana and georgia will likely going into december and january runoffs. Hearing that makes you perk up. The notion, you know, of runoffs in january, which is actually after this is after the congress is supposed to convene. Be that as it may, let me throw a question to you that i threw out to joe klein. What are your sources saying . What is your gut saying about the state of the u. S. Senate . Reporter sources in both parties, brooke, are very sort of bullish on the idea that the republicans are likely to take control. Democrats admit that they have a very narrow path and in fact one source says it was unlikely at this point that they are going to keep control of the senate and on the flip side, Mitch Mcconnell who is in his own race for reelection but is running as potential next Senate Majority leader got a briefing over the weekend from a senior strategist here in washington looking at the numbers of the polls, looking at all of the various metrics that they use saying that they think that theres a very good chance that hes going to be majority leader. Having said all of that, you know, the whole cliche that its about getting out the vote is cliche for a reason because that really is what matters at this point. The question is going to be getting out the vote versus voter dissatisfaction and where the rub is between those two issues because there is a contradiction. I was out in many of these states and the concept of disgust with washington is palpable so whether thats going to translate with the republican and Democratic Base depending on where they are is the big open question. Thats what david gergen was saying. Its been so gummed up. Whoever has control picks it. Dana bash, thank you so much. Well look for you all day and night tomorrow on cnn. In the meantime, staying in washington, we bring in ryan lizza, our cnn political correspondent. Nice to have you, sir. How are you . Thanks for having me. Im doing all right. Before we go anywhere else, let me talk about this guy running in kansas. This is something i know youre passionate about. This guy in kansas running against pat roberts. His name is greg orman. Hes an independent. Hes not yet stated which party he would side with should he beat pat roberts. Focus narrative on the Midterm Election on control of the senate, do you think control of the senate could come down to him and his decision should he win . I think its less likely it will come down to orman because as you pointed out, the republicans in the last week really have strengthened in a number of places and its looking like they might not need orman. Having said that, he still could be the guy. Two interesting scenarios. If it comes down to him and he has said hell caucus with whoever is in the majority, hes going to be a little bit of an odd duck in the republican conference. You can go to his website and look at positions hes taken. Hes basically a liberal democrat. Thats where his positions would put him on the political spectrum starting with the fact that hes prochoice and so in the case of where the republicans dont actually need him for the majority, im sure they will be happy to have him, interesting to see how he votes on key party line votes. It will be interesting to see what assignments he gets and frankly how he operates as someone to the left in obviously a very conservative caucus. Hes not the king maker and they dont need him and his life could be different in washington. Having said that, that race is a dead heat and pat roberts still could win. Theres a lot of having said that, having said that, we just dont know. We just dont know. Were all in prediction space. Nobody wants to be embarrassed on wednesday morning. We talk a lot about wave elections where everything breaks with one party. In 1994 you had a republican sweep and 2010 the last midterm might qualify as well. Might we see a republican wave tomorrow . We could. You know, if someone says its a republican wave, you need to ask them why. Back up for a second. We have 36 senate races. Were only focusing on ones that are close. We have 36 senate races. The republicans werent able to break into a lot of the deep blue states as you and david gergen were talking about. The blue wall. The democrats really werent able to obviously make any progress in any of the deep red states. And i think the explanation of this election likely is red states are getting redder and blue states are getting bluer and whats happening is a bunch of red state democrats who just barely got elected in 2008 because they had barack obama at the top of the ticket six years later those red states are reverting back to Republican Leadership where they havent had a republican leader before they are catching up with the times. And i think thats the most likely scenario. I dont think that means its a wave. It means the republicans had a much better Playing Field and we have an election in red america and republicans won. Now, they could i think thats whats likely to happen. They could exceed expectations. If they win in virginia and they win in New Hampshire and if they win in a couple of obama states, then i think you need to say this is a wave because you have blue states, you have republicans winning in blue states where they werent supposed to. Thats what i would look for on whether its a wave or not. Well see, red, blue, purple, everything in between. I appreciate you very much. I appreciate it. Make sure you stick around and watch Anderson Cooper and wolf blitzer beginning at 5 00 eastern. Well cover all things blue, red and everything in between and break results down for you. Dont miss that tomorrow starting at 5 00 eastern time. Richard branson wanted to build a brand new industry of Space Tourism and it was a dream that took a massive tragic hit with fridays spaceship accident. Was branson too optimistic from the beginning. The terror group is using brutal propaganda to train a new generation of young and vicious soldiers. Dont miss that. How much money do you have in your pocket right now . I have 40, 21. Could something that small make an impact on something as big as your retirement . I dont think so. Well if you start putting that towards your retirement every week and let it grow over time, for twenty to thirty years, that retirement challenge might not seem so big after all. The copilot who survived fridays crash is said to be alert and talking and while hes recovering, i can tell you the ntsb is collecting clues from the wreckage strewn across californias Mojave Desert trying to figure out what went wrong and killed crash michael alsbury. The copilot prematurely moved this crucial lever unlocking the feather mechanism. Lets understand this a little bit more with a contributing editor to the daily beast. Clyde, welcome. Glad to be with you. Please lets just begin with explaining to the nonaviation experts here, when we talk about the feathering process, what is that . The whole virgin thing is like a rocket flight. It goes up and it comes down. It doesnt go into orbit. It goes about ten times as high as an airliner is the plan for it. The rocket fires. It goes up. Reaches about 65 miles and then begins a descent without power and glides down. This device was meant to cut in when it begins the descent. What actually happened, it seems, is it cut in in the wrong time about 12 or 14 seconds after the rocket motor started so right at the bottom of the trajectory. Its not designed to do that and cant withstand the forces when the rocket is beginning to reach full power. The whole craft broke up. The initial suspicion was that the cause would be the rocket motor, the motor that propels the whole thing. We dont have a chance to know how the rocket motor really works. This was unexplained why the copilot would have done this. I would like to sort of just correct the whole idea if i may of it being Space Tourism. Its neither space nor tourism. This thing only brushes the very lowest miles of space and doesnt go into orbit. Youre weightless for a few minutes. Youre paying for is a spectacular view and about four minutes of weightlessness and at the beginning of a tremendous sensation of being forced by rocket. Thats what customers pay 250,000 for. This has put back the program considerably. We have talked to richard branson, founder of Virgin Galactic and spoke with him multiple times and sent crews to the Mojave Desert. He said he would be on the original flight with my family before anyone else and their 250,000 tickets take this trip to weightlessness and awe. He says hes well aware of the risks. Take a listen to what he told poppy harlow. When you have incidents, youre going to get people who are quick to criticize what is a pioneering program. We have 400 of the best engineers in the world working on this. They are diligent, hard working and doing something which is cutting edge. I support them 100 . So we have to accept the occasional knock that well brush it down and move forward. Brush it down and move forward. Mentioned some of the criticism. Yes. This is more than an occasional knock. This is a catastrophe. Raises two issues about safety. It raises issue about the safety of the pilots themselves because when you leave a plane or craft at that 45,000 to 50,000 feet where the air is extremely cold and low pressure and plane is moving around 900 miles an hour its surprising and amazing that the pilot survived while the copilot wasnt able to do that. One then raises the question about what would happen to passengers on a flight if there were a problem like this . How would they get out . Theres nothing built into it to enable passengers to escape. Theres no escape module. And the pilots themselves would have a risky position up there too. So this must be regarded not as a practical thing at the moment. As mr. Branson implies, its a very experimental program. Many things are left to be proven and the mistake he made frequently in the past is to promise hell pass these milestones proving these things work in a time frame that was impossible. He said a few months ago he would take the first passenger flight with his son early next year before they confronted the technical challenges that arise once you start flying it that high. I think even hearing from the ceo of Virgin Galactic, he too when he heard mr. Branson say early 2015, he was surprised as well and all of that is probably thrown out given the catastrophe that we all saw from friday. Thank you so much. Ntsb is investigating and our well wishes with the family of the deceased pilot and that of the pilot who is recovering. Thank you, sir, so much, for joining me from london. Youre welcome. Isis meantime trying to grow its army with new, young, very young recruits and its teaching these children how to kill by showing them brutal propaganda. You will see what theyre showing them. These little boys next. Democrats had a strategy for Midterm Elections. Keep it local. No unified national message. Was that a mistake . Stay with me. After all of the campaigning and speeches in those negative tv ads, election day is almost here. 36 senate seats, 435 house seats and 36 governors offices all up for grabs but control of the senate could come down to just a half dozen hotly contested races. Lets talk about how we got here and what happens next. Welcome to both of you and happy midterm eve. Easy for you to say. Van, let me begin with you. I was talking to Michelle Kosinski at the white house. She was talking about the president s goingson and maybe robo calls and radio ads. We know the first lady is out campaigning in maryland but so far the president not in the public eye. I just have to say that cant look very good for the leader of the Democratic Party to be absent. Hes not absent. Hes on the ground where hes popular. Where he can be helpful, hes helping. Where he cant be helpful, hes not helping. That looks good and smart. If he was everywhere, they would say hes arrogant. The whole thing about how obama is toxic is way overblown. Hes in the low 40s. Reagan got down in the 30s. Bush got down to 19. When you look at other president s at this point in their journey, his lows are on the high end of low. I think its a bit overblown. Im so glad that you brought up rhode island where there is no senate race crucially and so thats why the president was comfortable going there and in fact he went there to stomp for the governor there. A democrat obviously. On the very day he showed up in rhode island to stomp for her, the political report changed their rating on that race from lean democrat to tossup. Hes not even helpful in states where he is as you say popular. Another extraordinary example in georgia. Michelle nunn running for senate there is talking up her experience working for george h. W. Bush. Bush. In georgia. Project ten years down the line. Can you imagine a republican invoking the name of barack obama to win that state . This is extraordinary. I mean, the toxicity of obamas brand is not fiction. Its reality for these democrats. We throw out numbers of approval ratings. Van talked about the president ial approval rating. We know congress is way lower than that. Lets play the if game. If you have the republicans who take control not just of the house but the senate and then you have communication not happening, working across the aisle not happening, gridlock as weve been seeing for the next two years, will that come back to bite your party in 2016 . Absolutely. What happens tomorrow is not a predictor for what happens in 2016. We all remember the wave election in 2010 for republicans. Didnt work out so well in 2012. So if republicans blow an opportunity over the next two years to show people what it means to effectively govern, theyll be back where they were in 2012. That will be on them. Its up to republicans to really embrace whatever games they make tomorrow and work across the aisle. Advance a lot of policies. Good news is whether its keystone or enforcing the border or any other number of policies, they are already popular with the American Public so thats what they need to focus on. What happens with the president if that is the headline that were all reading come wednesday morning . We know that with his team, you know thus far with control of the senate, weve seen executive orders and executive actions. How does he handle this . How does he lead . How does he embrace the republicans . First of all, we have to figure out which Republican Party is going to show up. Right now the Republican Party is able to say two things that dont go together. They say to their base well stop obama and were against obama and were not going to talk about the fact that unemployment is lower than its been in six years, were not going to talk that gas prices are down. Well say we hate obama and then they charge the rest of the country and say we want to break gridlock were creating. What are they going to do . If theyre the party that wants to break gridlock, they can pass the bills theyve been holding back that are bipartisan in support and president for and theyre against and if they show up and act the way theyve been acting when you see them takeover control in places like kansas and North Carolina and pass a bunch of extreme stuff, if they go after womens rights, if they go after contraception and if they go after school teachers, if they go extreme, then theyre going to set it up perfectly for Hillary Clinton to run against an extreme republican congress. We dont know which Republican Party is going to show up. Theyre talking out of both sides of their mouth right now. Thank you both very much. Well look for our election coverage tomorrow. Big day tomorrow. Thank you. Tomorrow night you have those two. Anderson cooper, wolf blitzer beginning at 5 00 p. M. Eastern tomorrow here on cnn. Just recently in new york i wanted to go to Staten Island where the stigma of ebola has followed three refugees living in this community they call little liberia because there are so many immigrants living in one area. More than 4,000 miles away from the countries most hard hit in africa. Theyve been bullied and isolated and condemned for a virus they dont have and therefore cannot spread. I sat down with a Community Leader forced on unpaid leave from her job because some six months ago she went to liberia. A man who is a social worker helping refugees cast away out of fear they may be carrying a environment and a mother who lost her sister, her niece, and nephew to ebola afraid to return back home to the country she has left. Heres more from our dinner conversation. So many of us cant understand what its like to be liberian and living in the United States especially now when everyone is talking about it right now. How are people treating you differently right now . I was in liberia in july. I came back the 23rd. Because of this virus, im not working right now. You werent around anyone that had ebola. You were tested. It came back negative. You work in the health sector. Your employer said dont come back to work. Administrative reasons. Are you being paid . Im not. Not a penny. My car was repossessed because of this. Because of a virus that you dont have. No one in your family has it. Not even in africa family back home are looking to me for help. Im getting calls every day. The money in my account is gone. Theres no job in liberia. Its very limited. They depend on us for survival. You start begging for bread. Most of us here we come here to work. You are eligible for food stamps. Would food stamps feed my people in africa . You have friends and family back home in liberia. Youre worried about them. Youre losing family members. Yet you are dealing here with a very different problem, which is people joking about something that is incredibly serious. This affects your country the way it affects my country, you wouldnt think it to be a joke. I dont want to take this as a joke. How is your family doing in liberia now that they lost your sister. They got a bucket of water and wash hands before they come out and go back in the house and wash their hands. Stay off the streets. Our house where the sister died is abandoned right now. Nobody live there. Everybody left. Everybody left after she passed away. Lie in the hospital for two days. We are worried that when you see two or three from liberia and your heart starts to pump. You dont know if theyre going to tell you that your family is dead or somebody contracted ebola virus or you dont know. So we are on edge and ebola virus is worse than the civil war in liberia. Its worse than the civil war. You all agree . Yes. With the civil war you know where the enemies are coming from. You can run from if they are coming from east or from the west but with ebola you dont know who has it. Ebola is not looking for color. Ebola is not looking for africa. Ebola is looking for a host. They all work with the Staten IslandLiberia Community association where they raised 11,000 to send back home to west africa for medical supplies and food. You remember the reports recently the Security Guard who was carrying a gun when he rode in an elevator with president obama. Hes been fired. He is giving his account of what happened behind and outside those elevator doors. Let me bring in kenneth tate and also his lawyer, christopher chestnut. Gentlemen, welcome. Mr. Tate, let me begin with you. I understand youd never met mr. Obama before. You were excited to work security that day. This is a man you admire. Yes, maam. Tell me what you admire about him. Hes the president of the United States. Hes from my hometown, chicago. I was proud. Proud to do the detail. I was proud to be in his environment. All was well. It was a great day. Until it wasnt. There were all kinds of reports, right . Yes. As far as how you acted, what you said, what you did with your cell phone or your camera in and out of the elevator. Can you set the record straight for me and tell me what happened . That morning, 6 00, i was issued my weapon, a. 40 caliber weapon by psc, the Security Company i work for. I was informed that i would be escorting the president of the United States. And i got my weapon, my radio and i went over to building 21, which is my area i work. And began my day, starting off with escorts, my roving duties, which consist of breaks and answering calls thats needed in the building. Were you ever told that that was against secret Service Protocol to have that firearm while you were protecting the president or working security with the president . No, maam, i was issued that weapon that morning. So continue on. What was your interaction with the president in the elevator and beyond . My instructions were to take him to the directors floor, the 12th floor, also the third floor, which is the Emergency Operation center. In which those tasks i carried out. And he interacted with you, did he not . Yes. When he entered with his entourage, he extended his hand and shook my hand. At one point you did pull out your camera to take some photos. Can you tell me about that . No, that didnt take place until after the detail was complete. Nothing took place on the elevator like they had reported. Okay. I do need to let our viewers know, we reached out to the cdc for comment. They say, no official comment at this time. But a source tells us the cdc asked for you to be reassigned because you were supposed to stay in the elevator but you left your post, violating the post order. And it goes on, you were not also forthcoming about leaving the elevator and taking the pictures. Your response to that . That wasnt true. Basically i was escorting other agents to different various locations. I was also called to escort some of the secret Service Members to the roof. So at various times, i was doing other things with other agents. Brooke, there was no assigned post. His post was for the entire building. Thats the issue. This is our first time hearing of these allegations from the cdc. He wasnt assigned a post. He wasnt responsible for the entire building. When he went outside to take a photo of the motorcade, that was within his purview. He was terminated by this private Security Company even though he was doing what he was assigned to do. Let me be precise. I dont want you to misinterpret my words. This isnt from the cdc. This is from a federal official with knowledge of the investigation. Christopher, can you tell me, do you all plan on filing suit . We anticipate seeking justice for mr. Tate. Whatever form that may take or require, were prepared to it and were prepared to see it to the extent that is necessary. What does justice look like . Justice first of all he was wrongly terminated. He should never have lost his job for doing what he was supposed to do. And he was defamed nationally. Hes accused of been a convicted felon. Hes never been convicted of a felony. He was accused of having a firearm when they appointed him the firearm. Forgive me. I have to cut you off. But were going to follow up with you, mr. Tate. Thank you both very much.
