Defense of israel, according to administration officials. They say israel is not running out of ammunition, it is not an emergency. But israel has made a request for resupply of several types of ammunition, and the u. S. Has now agreed to it. There are two types that we know about. One is 120 millimeter mortar ammunition. The other is 40 millimeter ammunition for grenade launchers. Whats so interesting is those two types of ammunition are going to be transferred to the israelis very quickly from an existing stockpile of u. S. Equipment and ammunition already in israel. That is being made public. But theres a number of other categories of ammunition. They will now go to u. S. Companies, u. S. Defense manufacturers, and finalize the deal with them to get resupplied in all of that. Is israel running out of ammunition . There is nothing that indicates that, but as one defense official said to me, look, clearly over the last three weeks of operations in southern israel and gaza, they have been using up an awful lot, and clearly they do need to get this resupply. Brooke . Here we are in week four. Barbara starr, thank you so much. And lets stay on this conflict specifically. We know explosions have rocked gaza, shattering this already short humanitarian ceasefire announced by israel. Civilians given four hours to scramble to find safer ground. But they didnt actually get that long. Lets show the exact moment it came to a thunderous end. But first, for the second time in a month, the school in gaza has been hit. It was run by the United Nations and used to shelter civilians. The Palestinian Health Ministry Says at least 20 people were killed when this school was hit today. Youre looking at the aftermath. The United Nations blames israel. Israel says it was responding to militants in the area who fired upon israeli soldiers. In previous attacks on u. N. Facilities, israel has blamed errant hamas rockets. But back to that attempt to stop this fighting remember, they thought it would be a fourhour break, stop long enough for people to get supplies, get out of harms way. Again, supposed to last four hours, didnt even make it to three. Take a look. Again, lets start with ththa that its over. As you can tell. What we have right now is smoke, which is coming from an earlier air strike in downtown gaza city. Thats a gas station, a petrol station, hit, according to palestinian officials. What that other target was hit, at this point we dont know. They are now responding to that to those hamas rockets, which, to be fair, have continued to fire from gaza. Just over here. This building over here has just been hit. Okay. People are now scattering beneath the streets below. Do you need to go . So that was earlier today, and now clearly night has fallen over gaza city, and john vause joins me life. We saw the smoke, heard the explosions, saw you moving about. Quiet now . Reporter quiet is a relative term here, brooke. There is the constant sound of artillery and tank fire coming from the south. That hasnt let up for the last few hours. But it seems that the air activity has. We have a quick succession of air strikes when that fourhour humanitarian window came to an end about twoandahalf hours into it. But right now it seems relatively quiet. But let me show you this. This is the view out the window here. And look, this is gaza city at night. This is home to hundreds of thousands of people and it is pitchblack. Apart from a few homes that have lights on, they maybe have generators. But pretty much everyone here has no electricity. And this is the second night it is like this. And that is a direct result of gazas only power station, which is now out of operation. Now, the palestinians say it was hit by an israeli tank shell. The israels say we dont know, were looking into that, were not too sure. It wasnt on our target list. What have happened right now, there is virtually no electricity out here, and its going to be like this for a while. Barely any lights twinkling behind you, john vause. We talked about the power station yesterday. Lets talk about the school hit. Its a school, supposed to be a safe place, supposed to serve as a shelter. But then we have this video. So what youre looking at, this is a building in gaza city. Well show you in a second. Reuters was reporting it was hit today by israeli shelling and one person killed. And in these pictures, you can see the smoke, right . So we see the smoke here. And people are trying to put out this fire, and they have, like, tiny jars of water to put this out. So john, my question to you is, where can people go . Is there such a place is it a safe place in gaza city, where you are . Reporter not really. I mean, look, this is the middle of a war zone, constant israeli air strikes. They say theyre taking the utmost care not to hit civili s civilians, but 1,300 palestinians killed, most civilians. And they do warn people to leave. But as you say, there isnt anywhere to go. They go to the u. N. Shelters and schools and as we saw this morning, those schools then get hit either by israeli fire or by hamas rocketfire, depending on which version of events you choose to believe at this point in the conflict. So right now people are staying with relatives, staying in parking lots. Some have set up make shift camps outside the hospital here. They believe that maybe because its a hospital it will be a lot safer. But according to the u. N. , were now looking at about 200,000 people out of 1. 7 million who have had to leave their home. And a lot of those people really dont have anywhere to go. John vause, thank you so much. Lets stay on this. Let me bring in Cnn International anchor, jim clancy, you have done extensive reporting on this part of the world. I want to get to johns point in a minute as far as they dont have anywhere to go. Theyre stuck right there in gaza by land and by water. First, as far as the ceasefire is concerned, supposed to last four hours, bearable lasted three. What do you think is going on . Well, hamas would never subscribe to it. The israelis saw, you know, the shock over that attack, the killing of all of those people, what, more than 20 dead, more than well over 100 wounded at that u. N. Shelter. Yeah. They called an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, calm things down a little bit. Hamas sees itself as winning there. And so hamas says winning what . A propaganda war. Winning a propaganda war, so hamas says no ceasefire. They kept firing rockets. The humanitarian ceasefire didnt affect the entire gaza strip. Israel quickly reengaged. We are now in a situation where i think getting a ceasefire is going to be more difficult, not less difficult. Hamas sees an opportunity here. It has no choice. Its back against the wall. It wants to salvage something out of all of this, and that means lifting the restrictions on gaza, but i dont think israel is ready to do that in any way, shape or form. Listening to sara sidner, one of our other correspondents, on the ground talking to wolf, saying a lot of israelis dont want the ceasefire. And to further the i dont want to say tensions, but between netanyahu and obama, much ado about this. Really, its a hoax, not true, this transcript that was leaked among israeli media, ben rhodes from the white house said it was crazy. But the israeli media picked it right up, right away. Because they understand, just how seriously damaged u. S. Israeli relations are. John kerry was really sabotaged, sand bagged, if you will, by israeli authorities. President obama was very upset by it. The u. S. Theyre our friend. Were resupplying their ammunition, according to Barbara Starr at the pentagon. That will continue to go on. Its not helping israel, really. Its not helping the United States at this juncture. Because if youre looking for a ceasefire i mean, one that will really work what . You have to have a strategy. This is not a militant problem. This is a political problem. Only politics can solve it. It takes those kinds of talks that are going to recognize the needs of both sides. Youre not getting it with the ceasefire here. Both sides, israelis and hamas, have plenty of tactics. What they lack is a strategy. All of this is going to do the ceasefire will get us right back here in two years time. Talk about strategy. At the end of the day, dont israelis ultimately want to decapitate hamas . Isnt that what they want . Some have suggested that. What they want is a little peace and quiet. And some say the only way to get that is sure gaza wants that, as well. Demilitantize. Certainly. They want the freedom of movement. Thats from the palestinian side. They want recognition. You know, israel is demanding that hamas recognize israels right to exist and hamas is shooting right back, saying recognize us first. So youre at this the same old place we have been for so long. The military cannot solve that problem. Propaganda war is something else. We have seen the movie before, as Fareed Zakaria has told me. Jim clancy, appreciate it very much. All right, brooke. Just ahead, the iron dome. The Defense System that protects israelis from those rockets, is at risk of being hacked. Well explain how thats possible. Plus, in the worst Ebola Outbreak ever, heres a frightening thought. Crews cannot really know for sure whether someone is infected with ebola before he or she gets on a plane. So well talk live with someone who just returned from west africa, treating, counseling, some of the victims and their families. And a russian lawmaker says president obama will go down in history as the man who started the new cold war. Strong words. Youre watching cnns special live coverage. New unisom liquid. A stressful day deserves a restful night. Lets take you to eastern ukraine. Bodies still left behind. Investigators pushed back by the fierce fighting and now the situation just got worse at the mh17 crash site. Land mines . These are exclusive pictures, thanks to our cnn crew from the wreckage, from today. A ukrainian official saying prorussian rebels are placing these land mines near the wreckage of this passenger plane while the rebels accuse the Ukrainian Military of putting its tanks on part of the debris field. And carrying on battles there. 13 days after that boeing 777 carrying those 298 people was blown out of the sky, the situation appears to be worsening on the ground. So to Nick Paton Walsh we go, live in donetsk, ukraine. And nick, still these International Investigators cant get through. You and your crew managed to get to this crash site, sharing these new images with us. First let me ask you, did you see evidence with your own eyes of these land mines . Reporter no, not really. And if you actually examine the Ukrainian Security council statement, theyre suggesting more separatists are putting up firing positions and mining areas around the crash site. Theyre trying to suggest theyre blocking access for inspectors but if you look at the reality, this whole area, and its a vast area where the wreckage is scattered, this whole area is being in a brutal civil war. At the crash site, there were plenty of black plumes of smoke on the horizon. Intense shelling of one town, blocking access for inspectors from donetsk, where im standing to that crash site. So i think its hard on the ground to actually see specific evidence of mines being put in to block access. And the separatist militants checked our documents and asked questions but comparatively on the friendly side. Why on the friendlier side with you all and these International Investigators cant get through . Why . Reporter its easy for us in many ways, one car for over an hour. We can wind our way through many roads and people not quite sure who we are and gone before they work it out. But the convoy of inspectors, 30 to 40 of them, travel very conspicuously, a lot of negotiation beforehand to ensure ceasefires. A lot of mistrust between the sides and the fighting here, so you have to play that in mind if youre trying to navigate your way through. Is someone going to shoot at you and blame it on the other side. And bear in miamidade, when the inspectors get there, they have to be there for hours, weeks, possibly, even months. Some suggest that painful forensic work going through that oftenter figure, horrifying wreckage, debris still in the fields there, scattered over many square miles, brooke. So i think thats the problem theyre facing. Were on day four now that the dutch and Australian Police have been here in donetsk, talking to the monitors about getting there. But simply not able to make the journey because of the fighting and its getting worse, brooke. You saw debris. Did you see remains . Reporter no. But sad to say, brooke, we could smell a rather acrid smell in the air, decay. A lot of possessions still there. I saw a wallet that had clearly been emptied. Two of those. You see the books that people are reading when the missile struck the jet. Many people say. And we saw also what must have been shrapnel holes in the cockpit, too. So a lot still there. Much less that you can see in terms of the remains of individuals. The stretchers that carried them away, theyre still there too. Its bizarre how eerily site that whole area is, like its cut off from the world around it. Nick paton walsh, thank you so much in ukraine. If you are old enough, this growing disdain between the United States and russia, might recall the cold war years, the years and years of allconsuming rivalry between washington and moscow. President obama took on a question about the cold war just yesterday. Did you catch this . Is this a new cold war, sir . No. Its not a new cold war. What it is is a very specific issue related to russias unwillingness to recognize that ukraine can chart its own path. Not a new cold war, so says the president. But some russians beg to differ. I want to show this one tweet. The quote is, barack obama will make history, not as a peace maker. Everyone forgot about his noble prize, but rather as the statesman who started a new cold war. That tweet is from the head of the Foreign Affairs committee of russias parliament. Also worth noting here, a remark last may, not widely reported. Quote, we are slowly but surely approaching a second cold war. That is russias prime minister, dmitry medvedev. New cold war . Obviously depends on whom you ask. Lets ask Kimberly Dozier from washington, d. C. Kimberly, straight up, are we or are we not approaching another cold war between moscow and washington . Not yet. But were definitely in an ideological war that you could say russia has been conducting for some time. And only this ukraine crisis has really made the u. S. Engage full on. They have a sophisticated messaging system where if Vladimir Putin dictates it from on high, it quickly gets passed on by lawmakers, by state television. They also have tweet monitors that the moment someone who is russian opposition member or someone who is a critic of russia says something, they have trolls instantly responding. Everything from something factual to, you know, yeah, so says your mother. Hillary clinton. She sat down with Fareed Zakaria very recently, and is she told him that Vladimir Putin acted dismissively of her when she was u. S. Secretary of state. Do we know anything as to Barack Obamas relationship with Vladimir Putin . I mean, just personal chemistry. What do we know . We know that they have a cordial but matteroffact relationship. This is two smart, calculating minds circling each other. But a lot of the engagement happens instead through the public media. Russia has seen itself for some time, the inner narrative inside the country is that its really suffered from the fall of the soviet union. And that it deserves a greater, stronger place in the world. So each of these moves, like taking back the crimea, some of the ways they have repositioned troops that possibly could men as other areas, putin telling his people, we wont be pushed around. European nations watching this, watching this messaging, watching russianstate television tell its own people that ukrainian troops shot that malaysian airliner down, that has helped fuel the move toward sanctions. And those tougher sanctions are something that could make the russian people feel the pain from their president s actions. President obama is hoping for. We saw him yesterday addressing those additional sectorial sanctions from the south lawn saying theyre already feeling the pain and hoping they feel it much worse. Kimberly dozier, thank you so much in washington. Coming up next, israels iron dome incredibly successful in deflecting rockets coming from hamas. Youre watching cnn. Im brooke baldwin. Just into us from the white house, the white house now condemning the shelling on the United Nations school in gaza. It was a school that was sheltering a number of palestinians. Here is the state department spokeswoman, deputy spokeswoman, just a short time ago. While we do condemn the shelling of a school in gaza, which reportedly killed an injured and innocent palestinians, including children and u. N. Humanitarian workers, of course we would also condemn those responsible for hiding weapons in the United Nations facilities in gaza, as well. All of these actions and similar ones earlier in the conflict are inconsistent with the u. N. s neutrality, which we have spoken about in the past. So lets go to the white house to our correspondent, michelle kosinski. And lets be specific on her wording. Condemning the shelling of the school did not say condemning the if it is, israeli strike. Right. They went so far as to spell it out further. It was originally tweeted out the white house was condemning the israeli shelling of this school. But they quickly said, wait, wait, that tweet is incorrect. We did not assign any blame here. We just condemned the shelling of that school. So and they went further than that. Theyre not just focused on israel here. They did expand a little bit in that direction, though, by saying that theyre also deeply concerned about thousands of palestinians who have been told by israel to evacuate their homes and are not safe, in the u. S. s view, in u. N. Facilities. Thats taking it even further. Again, though, without naming israel. But the second part of this statement said they also condemn those who hide weapons within schools and other u. N. Facilities. That then is condemning the palestinians, again, without naming anyone. They dont want to assign anything here, but they kind of want to issue this blanket condemnation on the actions that have been happening there by both sides. I think one reason they might not want to name israel at this point, specifically, even though it seems like theyre doing it without doing it, is because remember over the last couple days we have seen incidents where a facility like this was she would shelled. We saw a hospital, a refugee camp, the palestinians immediately blame the israelis, but it turned out the israelis said no, we have proof, we even have pictures showing that these were errant palestinian bombs. So it may just be too early that nobody wants to name anyone at this point, brooke. Right. Hamas. Hamas. Michelle kosinski at the white house, thank you so much. And there are several reports circulating of these chinese hackers breaking into defense contractor computers, stealing schematics for israels iron dome Defense System. We have video. It shows the iron dome in action, intercepting a rocket over tel aviv. This is an expensive system, funded in part by hundreds of millions of dollars from the United States. And cnn money correspondent, laurie segall, talked to one of these cyber analysts, accusing china of the theft. Hey, brooke. The israelgaza conflict wages on. The makers of israel main missile Defense System was hacked in the past. I spoke to the man who discovered it. Take a look. A hack illustrated by security researcher, joe drossol it. That hot point could deliver a piece of email that is infected down to the victim company. Reporte. At the heart of the breach, one of israels main defense mechanisms, the iron dome. Its a very elegant attack, almost like the flu for the internet. There is no good way to stop it. According to drissel, a group of hackers gained access to Sensitive Data from three Israeli Defense contractors from 2011 to 2012. Heres what they got. Theres details about the aero missile system, the missile shot out of the launcher itself. And what were talking about are the actual schematics, the engineering, the auto cad diagrams of how you would build and reconstruct this particular missile system. Reporter youve got these defense contractors that are holding all this sense active data, something as simple as a phishing attack could breach it . You may think its easy to stop from clicking on an echl mate or click but human nature drives us to do that. Reporter an attack that could recreate it. If you wanted to identify weaknesses, you would want to know the underpinnings. This is a great way to look for a way to maneuver around the iron dome. You could also if you wanted to recreate it. Reporter israel arresto Space Industries denied info was stolen. They say they operate in accordance with the most rigorous requirements and were proven to be effective. Drissel says he came forward with the report to raise awareness. We actually reached out on several occasions to not only the victims in this situation, but we also provided the information to the authorities here in the United States. Reporter do you feel confident the iron dome is safe now and cant be hacked . At the end of the day, i dont believe at any point that any company is safe. Its important moving forward we realize that these are serious bits of information that we cannot allow to be released. Reporter and brooke, as we face the threat of cyber warfare, now more than ever, drissel says its so important to put money out towards building these Security Systems when it comes to this type of critical infrastructure. The Ebola Outbreak getting worse in west africa. Officials fear it could make its way to other countries, including the United States. Reason being, and look at this with me. An american who caught this fatal virus in liberia, one of three countries plagued by ebola, was able to board a plane while infected. Dr. Patrick sawyer started showing symptoms during a flight headed to nigeria on july 20th. When the plane landed, the 40yearold fell to the ground. He died five days later, becoming the First American killed by the ebola virus. He was trying to get home to minnesota to celebrate his daughters birthday. Earlier today, his wife talked to cnns Michaela Pereira and she says he may have unknowingly caught the disease caring for his sister. He was visiting his sister. She was ill. And he helped care for her. And so he contracted it that way. Didnt know it was ebola. Because ebola displays other symptoms, like malaria symptoms. So they thought she may have malaria. So he was helping. Of had he known he would have definitely taken better precautions. Sawyer is not the only person who recently died from the virus. A doctor leading the charge to fight the outbreak died just yesterday from this. Also two American Health workers got infected with ebola in africa. Theyre being treated currently. But just to give a Bigger Picture, bigger perspective, the World Health Organization says at least 672 people have died from ebola. Now the virus has spread across, as we mentioned, these three west african nations, guinea, cier sierra leone and liberia, and 1,200 cases confirmed since march. Symptoms, a fever, headache, muscle aches, weakness, diarrhea and vomiting. I want to bring in psychologist anna field setter, joining me live from london. And anna was just recently in sierra leone as recent as two weeks ago, providing counseling and support for these patients and their families. And anna, first, this is risky work. What you do. Tell me why you do it. Why i do it. Its also very rewarding work. And when we know that this is going on, i think for as a health professional, i feel as if i should do as much as i can to help. We are grateful there are people like you in the world. Let me say that. But to quote you in this piece i read, you said i was expecting the ebola epidemic to be quite gruesome and unlike anything i had seen before want but i didnt expect its magnitude. Its enormous. What does it look like . Its very fastmoving. And its very terrifying. And its tearing families apart. So for me, i think thats thats whats hardest to put behind me after i got home, i still think a lot about the children that are being abandoned by their parents who cant go in and be caretakers in the hospital. And i think about the parents who die and leave behind orphaned children. And our patients who are very many we have very many lonely patients, because people are afraid to visit. There is a stigma, right . Absolutely. There is a lot of stigma connected, because well, even for me as a health worker, sometimes now after i got home, people are a bit scared of maybe giving me a hug, because they know that im still on my 21 days of quarantine after coming back. What do you tell them . I tell them that im not contagious. That youre not contagious. And its also important, as we talk about the deaths, especially this death of this american doctor, you have seen people beat it. You have seen people come out of these isolation rooms and survive. Yeah. Its true. And we are discharging more and more survivors. Its very encouraging. Our Case Management center has brought down the morality from about 90 to now its around 60. So its still means that most of the cases that we see there are not coming to they are not going to be discharged alive. But its still a very, like, good its oh our Case Management is improving. Ane, thank you so much for joining me, and thank you for all the work you do for these people who so, so need it. I appreciate it. Because i want to show you this picture. The picture is of a bloodied and beaten face of this 15yearold palestinian american, marked the beginning, really of this conflict that has since killed more than 1,300 people. Tarik khdair was visiting his cousin when the unthinkable occurred. During this trip, his cousin was brutally murdered, burned alive, a revenge killing by jewish extremists over the deaths of those three israeli teenagers. A deadly tit for tat that led to protests. Kadir was watching one of the protests when he was attacked by Israeli Police. And here it is. His beating was captured on this cell phone video. Soon after, the rockets began to fly. So id like to bring in tarric and his mother, and their attorney joining me from washington, d. C. So just welcome to all of you. And i am sorry for the loss of your cousin. I would like to begin with you, if you can just take me back to that day four or so weeks ago. You were just visiting with your cousin, mohamed . I understand you were playing board games, you ran an errand to the bakery, you came back, you saw this house surrounded by police. What happened next . Well, what happened was, when it was surrounded by police, everyone was confused. People wanted to know, like, where did mohamed go . Whats going to happen him to . Were losing time. Where did mohamed go . What happened . Well, he was kidnapped, and he was taken. He was taken somewhere and we were so we were clueless. We didnt know. We didnt have anything we didnt have any proof or anything. So at that point, we were all really worried about mohamed. So at this point, when you arrive at the home, how did you learn that your cousin was tortured and killed . Well, i learned that he was to tortured and killed, from like, the police. Because the Police Actually found out that there was a fire somewhere near jerusalem and they found out they found a body in that fire, and they identified it and it was mohamed. So in the meantime, as you think youre returning back to mohameds house to bring him some baked goods from this errand you have run, you see police. At what point did you run from police, jump the fence and they catch you . Well, that when i was when they grabbed me, that was later on that day. Okay. They i was outside watching everything that was happening outside. I wanted to know whats going to happen to my cousin, is he going to be okay, are they going to bring him back. And i was just out there watching until i saw a couple of guys coming from behind me, screaming. And behind them i saw soldiers. And then everybody freaked out. And so they started running. And so i started running too. And some people left the alley and some people jumped the fence that was in front of us. So i jumped the fence, and i fell. And i ran a little farther. They grabbed me and slammed my face into the floor. Then they started kicking me and punching me after they zip tied my hands together behind my back. So they zip tied my hands, and i had i couldnt move whatsoever. And they kept kicking me and punching me in the face until they made me go unconscious. Suha, as a mother, can you describe the first time we showed the image a moment ago, but of your sons face beaten to a pulp. What was that like seeing your child . I was in shock. I was i just didnt know if this was for real or it was a nightmare. Could this be happening . Were on vacation. I never thought Something Like this could happen. You know, us being free americans, you they, we never think Something Like this could happen in america. And then we come on vacation over here to see our family and our friends, and then, you know, this happens. I was in complete shock. But, you know, this happens every day to palestinians. It was no surprise to my family. Because the palestinians go through this every single day. But to see your child, and correct me, but you couldnt see him at first. I mean, tariq was sent to jail. He hasnt hospitalized immediately. And you didnt see him until when . I didnt see him until later on that night, when after his father had gone to the jail and begged the Israeli Police to take him to the hospital.
