Hearing and divulged one unseemingly revelation after another. The red line was this. Police allege harris was sexting multiple women, including a minor, as his son was overheating in a car for seven hours. This hearing ultimately got what prosecutors wanted. The judge allowed the case to continue, and did not allow bond for the 33yearold father. And as he sits in jail, investigators case against him expands. Eight search warrants released today and they detail that after little coopers death, harris was inquiring about how to get money from his sons Life Insurance policies. Cnns Victor Blackwell was in the cobb county courtroom that was packed with harris supporters. Reporter what was Justin Ross Harris allegedly doing while his it 22monthold son cooper suffered in the back of his scorching suv . He was having up to six different conversations with different women. The most common term would be sexting. Reporter stunning claims of raunchy text messages, suspicious internet searches and a plan to kill his son. Evidence is showing us right now hes got this whole second life that hes living with alternate personalities and alternate personas. Reporter harris sat shackled and sullen as detailed x rated messages allegedly exchanged the day cooper died, including with a then 16yearold girl. Were photos being sent back and forth between these women and the defendant during this day while the child is out in the car . Yes. There were photos of his exposed penis, erect penis, being sent. There were also photos of womens breasts being sent back to him. Reporter no visible reaction from the 33yearolds wife, lee anna, harris, who sat with her family and supporters in a packed courtroom. He was a loving father. He loved his son very much. We went on Family Vacations together, and he was a good dad. Reporter but just five days before coopers death, detective standard dard said harris watched videos online about the dangers of being trapped in a hot car and harris visited a web forum devoted to the childfree lifestyle. So you dont have any evidence that he actually typed in a Google Search or reddit search or anything for childfree. True. Were getting so far afield from the events of june the 18th. This has got nothing to do with those events whatsoever. The status of his marriage and his fantasy life has got nothing to do with the events of june the 18th. Were were just getting so far afield, judge. This isnt relevant to anything. Judge, this goes to the state of mind in the two weeks leading up to the death of this child. So this occurred within two weeks . Yes, your honor. Overrule the objection. Reporter the detective also testified the couple had financial problems and took out Life Insurance policies on cooper. They had a 2,000 policy through the home depot. The second one, is this something they got back in 2013 . Yeah, november is 2012 is when he signed up for it. Okay. Is this something he still had at the time of the childs death . That is correct. And how much was the policy . A 25,000 policy. Stoddard laid out the strange way he saw harris reacting the day cooper died. He saw him trying to work himself up and we are watching on the cameras and hes Walking Around and rubbing his eyes, looked like he was trying to hyperventilate himself. No tears, no, you know, real emotion coming out of him, except for, you know, the huffing. And through the time youre talking with him about his son and this sons death, did you ever see any tears coming from him . No. Reporter even more bizarre, how witnesses sayly anna harris reacted at the daycare when she was told that cooper was never dropped off. And in front of several witnesses, all of a sudden she states, ross must have left him in the car. And theyre like, what . Theres no other reason. Ross must have no other explanation, excuse me. Ross must have left him in the car. And they tried to console her. And theyre like, no, theres a thousand reasons. He could have taken him to lunch or something. We dont know yet. And shes like, no. And then another shocker. Were there any injuries to the childs face. There were. And what were those . The way it was explained, there were several marks on the childs face. It would have come from the child or a scratch being made while the child was alive. And then not healing, not scabbing over or anything like that and just soon after he passed away. Reporter were there any injuries to the back of the childs head . Yes, there were abrasions to the back of the childs head. Reporter after three hours of stunning testimony, judge frank cox denied harris bond, the defense maintaininging its not criminal negligence. Its a horrible tragedy and an accident. Reporter Victor Blackwell, cnn, marietta, georgia. Victor, thank you for that. Now, these allegations of sexting and odd behavior and disturbing online searches may show that Justin Ross Harris is a bad dad and a bad husband. Of but does it really show what counts in this case . His guilt. That what he does was, in fact a crime. Lets walk through this with cnn legal analyst, sunny hostin and dan dan danny cevallos. Welcome to you. Sunny, you watched yesterday. Youve been a prosecutor. What was your biggest take away or biggest bombshell for you . I think it was sort of the combination. Because i kept on asking myself when we first heard about this case, brooke, what father would do Something Like this . And the most important question is why . I needed to hear motive. And we heard motive. We didnt even hear sort of one theory of motive. We heard several theories of motive. We heard he was on the internet searching about having a childfree life. That is a motive. We heard they were having Financial Difficulties and he had these Life Insurance policies out on his child. Who does that . Thats a second motive. Then we hear about the sexting. We hear that he was searching age of consent in georgia, because one of the people that he was searching for and sort of sharing these explicit pictures was under age. And so when you have those sort of themes all together, i think that combination is really significant. Okay. So thats your combination. Danny cevallos, what did you see . What was your takeaway . My takeaway was the most shocking piece of evidence was at the same time the least legally relevant piece of evidence to me. And that was obviously the scandalous sexting allegations. From a moral perspective, theyre shocking. The whether it be the allegations it was an underage child he was sexting with. But from the perspective of the prosecution making their case in chief, that really falls into the into the category and the defense attorney made this point of character evidence. Now, the prosecution is going to say that goes to motive. But what the prosecution has to prove is that he intended to kill the child on a particular day. So in that sense, the evidence that his work was 30 seconds away from the chickfila is more compelling than actually the sexting, which the defense attorney made the point was arguably improper character evidence at this stage, especially when considering that yesterdays hearing was about charging him with criminal negligence. So all that evidence of motive went to intent, which really wasnt the subject of yesterdays hearing. Okay. But it all all these new nuggets and details came out through this threehour normally long probable cause hearing with all of this being hurled against him. I watched him and i know you two did too, sitting there in his orange jumpsuit, sat virtually emotionless and i took the note when i saw the tear coming down the left cheek when there was the eyewitness, one of the first me on the scene as they saw little cooper being pulled on to the concrete, sitting upright as if he was still in that car seat when he was removed from the car. Lets watch. Well, he was saying oh, my god, oh, my god, my son is dead. Oh my god, my son is dead. And did he say it matter of factly or plainly like youre speaking or was it with any particular inflection . It sounded as though he was saying it out of hurt and disappointment, of desperation. Was he screaming . He was yelling, he was hollering, he was screaming. Much as i would if i were in that situation. And did you observe him sobbing, crying . Anything of that nature . All of that. Say again . All of that. He was crying, he was hollering, he was yes. So the defense here, putting this witness on the stand, trying to show that there was no way Justin Ross Harris would have done this intentionally. But to your point a minute ago, danny, with all of this testimony, all these new details, how much of this would an actual jury hear if this goes to trial . The defenses strategy Going Forward is to file whats called a motion in limine to get rid of the evidence the prosecution would like to have introduced to show that the defendant is a chee cheater, a sexter. The defense is going to argue anything that wasnt close in time to the incident is going to be more prejudicial than probative. There is a specific rule for that. On the prosecution side, theyre going to make the argument and reasonable minds can differ, this evidence, especially sexting the same day his child was sitting in the car dying was very probative of his state of mind at the time this crime occurred. So reasonable minds can differ. The judge will have to sort it out. Sunny, i want to get to this point about the online searches. And we have been hearing we heard before this probable cause hearing he and his wife had researched and googled hot hot car deaths for kids or for animals. Its unclear exactly when they were searching this. But let me play one more exchange, because this is the exchange between harris attorneys this is the defense attorney and his lead investigator. Okay. Isnt that true that what ross told you was he couldnt believe that this had happened to him, because he had just seen a story on fox 5 about the governors look again campaign. No. He didnt tell you that. No. So just a little background, sunny. Look again. You know this. I dont know if our viewers do. This is a campaign to prevent hot child car deaths. It Just Launched in georgia, and just brings under the broader point. When you think about listen, i often talk about a google vortex. I may find myself in. People search a lot of Different Things on a lot of different computers. So i mean, is this fair . Its questionable, perhaps, what he searched. But is it fair . Would that hold up in court . Ive got to tell you, i disagree with danny. Everything is coming in, brooke. Weve seen it in case after case after case. We saw all the searches come in casey anthony, all the searches come in the Scott Peterson trial. Thats not to say it wont come in. And it is it is coming in, because it matters. I think juries want to see that. I think if youre a prosecutor and youve got to show motive, even though its not an element of the crime, youve got to tell explain to a jury, why would a father do Something Like this . Those searches go to intent. The sexting is coming in. The searches about hot child deaths are coming in. All of the searches about how to live a childfree life. All of that is coming in. And given all of those coincidenc coincidences, i think its going to be really difficult for, you know, a defense team to combat that. Okay. Well talk next hour, because i really want to also bring up some of the new information as it pertains to the wife, who sat there in court, as well. Sunny hostin, danny cevallos, thank you so much. But after the chaos in that town tuesday when buses were turned away by these anti immigration protesters, authorities arent saying exactly where they might be headed. Kyung lah is live right now where tempers are flared on this 4th of july. Kung, who is behind you there . Reporter the people who are behind me are actual pro migrant groups and anti immigration groups. What police have done is try to divide everybody up. Take a look over here. You can see a sizeable police force, a line of officers and then behind that police tape, a number of protesters resting both sides. And then if you can swing around and take a look, down the roadway, you can see this large group of press here. What everyone is pointing at is the roadway. That roadway is where we expect sometime in this hour for those buses to bring an unknown number of migrants. But immigration is clear, they dont want anyone to know exactly where theyre going, what the plan is, citing safety concerns. On this 4th of july, a lot of protesters are saying, from both sides, there needs to be immigration reform. I love were a nation of immigrants, you know. Most of us have immigrants from somewhere. This isnt about that. Its about were a nation where borders. Were a nation with laws. We have orderly immigration policies so that people are safe, so our citizens are safe so that people are trying to get here are safe. You know, were not a borderless nation. Theres 11 million undocumented people here. And theres people in the united states. Its not an us versus we situation. Its a we. Its everybody together. Reporter now, it did get quite ugly at the tuesday event outside the Border Patrol station at that protest. It was also got a little heated the following day at a town hall meeting with many people in the town coming out to express their emotions. Police hoping to avoid that ugliness, brooke, by making sure they stay segmented and separate as and if these buses arrive today. Kyung, let me ask you quickly, these thousands of undocumented immigrants crossing the border, many are children. I dont think on tuesday there were kids on that bus. Do we know if children are to arrive in this bus coming within the hour . Reporter there were children on that bus. There were a number of children. Many women and children. As far as the people who are arriving today, immigration Customs Enforcement making clear theyre not sharing any of that. But the fact that there are children involved here, that is certainly an issue theyre talking about. It did leave minimal damage after slamming the carolina coastline as a category 2 late last night. The fastmoving hurricane dumped heavy rains, brought severe winds and as promised, those dangerous rip currents. Now arthur is back out to sea, spinning toward the northeast. Cnn is keeping you updated, of course, an arthur. Meteorologist chad myers back with us after staying all overnight to cover this thing. And correspondent joe johns is back out at the beach today at nags head at North Carolina, outer banks. Chad myers, to you first. Where is he . How is he looking . Looking pretty good. 90 Miles Per Hour still. Still category 1, 96 to get to category 2. But not growing now. In cooler water. So things are going to start to calm down. That doesnt mean its going to be perfect by the time it gets to cape cod and nantucket. Still a tropical storm, stormforce winds. What i want everybody to take away from this storm is that making landfall, arthur was 30 Miles Per Hour stronger than sandy. You think, how could that possibly be . The problem with sandy is that at one point in time, it was a large, major hurricane and had that bubble of water that we all know what happened near jersey and Staten Island and long island. All that water was a bubble under a very major hurricane. Then it kind of died off. But the bubble of water didnt die off. What arthur was, was a small storm that became a category 2 briefly and quickly made landfall so didnt have that bubble of water, didnt have that huge storm surge, that Superstorm Sandy did. And so always have to take a look at what the big effect will be, every category of a hurricane doesnt mean that i going to act the same. This one certainly didnt. 90 Miles Per Hour east now of the delmarva peninsula. Into new york, connecticut, vermont, New Hampshire and boston. And boston, youre happy you moved your boston pops last night. 4th of july plans to the 3 already of july. A lot of rainfall coming down, flooding with this. This is the end, though. This is the beginning of the end of arthur as it finally winds down in much cooler water. I like to hear that at the end of this thing. Chad, thank you. To joe johns in North Carolina we go. We know that the North Carolina governor reported minimal damage. Are there still concerns out there where you are, storm surge and the like . I think there are some still some concerns. Theyre warning people to look for the occasional dangling power line, brooke. Telling people to watch out, certainly, for problems in the water. As you can see or hopefully you can see, water sports going on here on the sound behind me right now. Things and people are hoping are getting back to normal. This is after just a crazy night last night. People thanking their lucky stars that that storm got in here, and got out of here as quickly as it did. I none of us has been in a category 2 storm very recently, and i certainly had forgotten what it was like to be very close to the center of such a storm. And during the night, it was quite surprising, the amount of wind, the amount of rain, how hard it was to stand up outside. But now bright and sunny, theyre saying to us. It looks pretty good. In fact, they did not have anything like what they were expecting. Not even down at hatteras, as a matter of fact, brooke. I like hearing that, but pictures on the right side of the screen, clearly flooding issues. Just to see the support and, you know, just how much passion the fans have here is its unbelievable. Something felt very different this goround. Let me just attest to that. I know you were away. You were the one playing. But lets talk about that belgium match. You were subbed in 30 minutes into the first half t. Seemed incredibly intense watching. What did it feel like to be on the pitch . It was amazing. I mean, it was a do or die game. And those are the kind of games you want to be in as a professional player. Youre playing for your country. Unfortunately, we couldnt get the result, but i know we all put our 110 into it. You know, and thats all we could ask for. So i had a lot of fun in that game. Thought it was a great game. We were playing against a great team. And like i said, thats all you can ask for. Did you have a minute to breathe and pinch yourself and realize in the thick of it what you were doing . Not really, no. It all happened so fast. I mean, at the time, it seemed to be happening so slow, because it was practice and we fly and then the game. But after all is said and done, it happened so fast. And theres definitely moments i wish i could go back and relive. I hope youre pinching yourself now. And here you are, this team had all kinds of veterans, couple young guys, julian green just 19, john brooks, 21. Did you i dont know how the word rookie sits with you. Did you rookies, younger fellas, you know, develop any sort of special bond while you were down there . Definitely. I mean, as soon as we got into camp, all the younger players kind of just formed together, which was nice. I mean, thats normal. And i ive become, you know, very good friends with them. I am i think its safe to call them best friends right now. Aww. I text back and forth with them now, and just look forward to the next time i see them. Well, i cant wait to watch you in your next world cup. Meanwhile, can we wrap this interview . Dude, your hair. Its been amazing to follow this wild ride. Can we talk about this . So were watching the hairstylists, the shaving, the cutting, the i dont know what to call it. But what got you you said you started before or in college. What was your inspiration to kind of go wild . I saw namars hair and he had a mohawk with some blonde in it, but my hair was to thick and i didnt have a relaxer. You didnt have that on hand . Come on, deandre. I know, i know. So just kind of turned into almost like a frohawk. And i rocked that for a little bid. After a little, i didnt dig it. Then i put in some relaxer, got straight. Rocked that for a little bit and then decided to go short and do a bunch of designs in my hair with color. Yeah, its been fun. Me and my barber have a lot of fun with it. Ill spend, you know, anywhere anywhere up from seven hours in the barber shop with him, cutting hair. So, yeah. We have a lot of fun with it. The string of unseemingly revelations about this father out of georgia, Justin Ross Harris, this web developer, accused of leaving his 22monthold toddler to die inside of this sweltering hot car back in june. So the bombshells that kept dropping, were not just about this father here, but about his wife, the mother, on the left side of your screen. This is leanna harris. I want you to listen to the Cobb County Police investigator who testified yesterday about what happened when leanna went to pick up cooper, thinking he was at daycare. Thinking her husband had dropped him off and discovers he wasnt there. Like, ross never dropped cooper off. And shes like just got really calm. And shes like, well, i dont know what to do. They walked back out into the lobby and in front of several witnesses, all of a sudden she states, ross must have left him in the car. And theyre like what . Theres no other reason. No other explanation. Ross must have left him in the car. Joining me now, natisha lance, hln senior producer. Thank you so much for coming in. Its your day off, but it was so important to just walk through what you experienced yesterday, this normally bizarre, disturbing, probable cause and bond hearing, three hours. Lets begin with that moment, when you hear this detective stoddard describing this wife going to the daycare and she says, oh her first reaction is, ross must have left him in the car. There was an audible gasp in the courtroom and you could feel a shift in the seats and the energy of people seemed like getting uncomfortable. And leanna was behind my right shoulder so i looked back to see what her reaction would be. And very little reaction from her throughout the entire hearing. She was either looking down or looking straight ahead, not necessarily at anything. A few moments she would strain her neck and look up to see who was testifying and to be listening to that testimony. But in that moment, that it also went on in that testimony that leannas mother was had more of a reaction in that time when she found out that cooper wasnt around him. That cooper had passed away. And her mom said, what do you mean cooper isnt around . And she asked leanna, why arent you reacting more and she said i guess im in shock. And people did react to that. It appeared the woman sitting next to leanna was her mother and she was continuously dabbing her eyes, looking down and appeared to be crying. Well play another exchange. The part that was toughest, and im just a journalist covering the story like you. When i heard the moment when the detective was talking and describing little cooper and the abrasions on his face and on his back, as if he had been scratching, as if he had been in this hot car, 90something degrees that day in georgia. And as im listening to this, it made me just it was horrible. Did anyone react in the courtroom to that . They did. Her mother sitting next to her reacted. I thought leanna might react too. No reaction from her. And no reaction also from ross harris, who was sitting right in front of me. I couldnt see the front of his face, but i could see the side of him. And at certain points, he would lean back in his chair and rock. But very little reaction in his face. Very vacant. A very blank expression. And the same thing with leanna. However, his mother sitting behind me, you could hear her gasp. You could hear her emotion and certain points when people would say to her, Shhh Shhh Shhh and try to comfort her and try to get her to calm down. Let me play one more exchange fo for you. Okay. Did his wife ever say anything to him about what he said to police . She asked him, she had him sit down and he starts going through this, and she looks at him and shes like, well, did you say too much . Like, take a half step back. In the Police Interrogation room, the two of them, the husband and wife. Did you say too much. Right. That was another moment where people felt uneasy. There was a shift in the courtroom again, and there was another gasp. Not necessarily from the family. And leanna, i should point out the women sitting on both sides of her, her arms were in lock with them. She was holding their hands, she did have a kleenex. She would switch between one or the other hand throughout the hearing. But the courtroom had an audible gasp in that moment, when they heard about that interrogation. We i say we, those who did not have the perch inside the courtroom were watching for some emotion from the this father. And i finally saw it when you have the eyewitness on the stand, describing the moment when this father was pulling the toddler out of the car, and i saw that tear drop. Yep. And i saw that tear drop too, out of his left eye. And it was only in those moments when the witness was describing him pulling cooper out of the car. But also when his friends, his coworkers, were testifying about how much he loved his son. About how he would talk about cooper all of the time. And leanna, that is also when i saw her get emotional. As for the white house here, they have no comment, except to say National Security officials have seen the posting. More clashes have rocked jerusalem today, leaving dozens of palestinians wounded. Most at the hands of israeli Security Forces. Theyre having a sudden spike of hatred there that has been prompted by the killings of those three israeli teenagers and then the murder of that teenage arab that some say may have been retaliation. Todays violence flared as the arab teen was buried with his open casket carried through the streets. In an ominous sign, men wearing black masks, you see here, some waving the flag of islamic jihad, were spotted among the moungers. Cnns Senior International correspondent, ben wedeman, is with us in jerusalem. And well get to that bandage on your forehead in a minute here. Tell me, have things calmed down since those clashes earlier today . Reporter they normally calm down, brooke, in the evening around the time of the breaking of the daily ramadan fast. But we do expect them to flare up again, because of the level of tension and anger in the city. Let me actually reference what you just said about people wearing masks. The reason why people wear masks is that the Israeli Forces film all of this, and then go look for the people who are throwing stones. So its not necessarily an indication of the arrival of some dark and murky group. Its really a question of selfprotection as these people go out. And then, in fact, do throw stones at the israeli police. They just dont want to be identified later, and arrested. So yes, there is anger on both sides on the israeli side over the deaths of those three teenagers who were kidnapped on this 12th of june and whose bodies were found on sunday rather monday afternoon. And on the palestinian side by the discovery of a body day before yesterday, that of mohamed huh bu khadr, who both palestinians and many have concluded was indeed a revenge killing. Brooke . I do appreciate the context and clarification on those black masks we saw in the video. Let me ask you this. The Palestinian Protesters wounded today, as we understand it here, many were wounded by rubber bullets, fired by israeli Security Forces . And i understand you may have caught one, as well. What happened . Reporter theres no may about it, brooke. I did get hit in the forehead by one of those rubber bullets. They actually have a sponge tip. But it was turning around, and when it hit me, it was the hard plastic part. It was it was just a flesh wound, a scratch. And i was tended to immediately by the medics on the scene. And within about half an hour, we were up and working again. We understand that, of course, more than 60 people protesters were wounded. 13 israeli policemen wounded. These really were the most intense clashes weve seen in this last three days of protests. And even though tomorrow is the sabbath, things normally quiet in jerusalem, i suspect tomorrow will not be a quiet day. Brooke . Ben wedeman, thank you very much. Coming up next, it is the 4th of july, after all, and a little race in atlanta. You know, just happens to be the Worlds Largest 10k, the peach tree road race. Technically, i finished the peach tree road race, 6. 2 miles, ahead of the man sitting next to me. Because he hadnt even started running the race. Lets be real. Hes a little bit faster than i am. And he started way behind me. He tough started in last place behind some 60,000 other runn s runners. Meb keflezighi joins me now. His book is run to overcome. It is such an honor to sit here with you, just after being in boston and knowing about you. So, mr. Boston marathon and new york marathon and olympian, what was it like running and seeing the backs of runners heads for the first time . It was a great honor to be on the peach tree road race and i started last, ten minutes after everybody left and i was doing it for charity. So it was just a great cause. I was able to it was kind of quiet and got louder and louder and more crowded and crowded. And chasing people, dodging people. How did people react to you . Its a crowded race. Were you zigzagging . And you end up going to ucla, and look at everything youve accomplished now. And your parents did i read they put ten kids through college . Correct. Kind of fast but we have an engineer, doctor, mba, stanford and berkeley graduate and on and on. And my parents gave us this opportunity to sacrifice their lives and wanted us to use that opportunity. And we used to wake up at 4 30 a. M. To learn the language word, by word and hard work paid off. You pulled it off. Incredibly, may i say. An honor. The last 30 seconds i have with you, what advice do you have for people, just from your own life story, from your running . For kids . What do you want people to know . I would say run to win doesnt mean getting the first place but getting the best out of yourself. Doing the best you can and have fun in the process. I love it. Meb, so nice to meet you.
