Really made us run, march, for freedom. And equality and justice. And you know what, tonight youll see in this documentary, there were brave men and women, men and women of valor. And were so lucky, you and i, to still be able to talk to them, to be able to share their stories with a new generation, with their own music. And their music is just as powerful. You mentioned john lewis, not a musician, the congressman, the many times i meet him, i always say im standing next to history, donning congressman. Donna bryzgal donna brazil. Tonight at 9 00 eastern and pacific only here on cnn. Here we go. Hour two. You know the animation by now. Cue world cup. The u. S. Is now officially going to the knockout round. This is huge. We have all the raw emotions after todays soggy showdown between the u. S. And germany. Usa, usa, usa usa, usa, usa the fans were loud. They were proud. They were patriotic, even as the u. S. Team lost todays heart breaking match with germany, just by one goal. It was 10. And our commander in chief was just one of the millions of u. S. Soccer fans around the world. Take a look. This is the president traveling to minneapolis not too long ago, sitting around the table on air force one, watching. And the team, the team stood strong, goalkeeper tim howard made jawdropping save after save in these clutch situations on a very wet pitch, as we mentioned. And despite that loss, the world cup dream for the u. S. Is alive and well. And take a look at what the team just tweeted. Here we go. Tweeting, celebrating as onenationoneteam today. Thanks for the support. Here we come, knockout round. We have the World Cup Team standing by at the top of the hour with coverage from where that u. S. Match took place. Resiva, brazil. Lets get started with laura down there and in a less soggy recife. What did it look like, what did it feel like . Reporter well, it was a much different match than the ghana match in terms of the atmosphere. There were a lot more germany supporters than i actually anticipated. At that very first match, everybody afterwards was speaking about the overwhelming support of the usa fans in the stadium. But in this match, it was almost like there was a lot more german support, and the germans, they are just so used to all of their songs and their cheering and how they go about with everything they do during a match. It was almost as though the u. S. Fans were kind of standing in awe of them. But the u. S. Fans were loud and proud. I actually found one of the most intriguing parts of this match just the very beginning, during the American National anthem. The entire u. S. Team, they stood there. They faced the american flag, they covered their heart with one hand. And then they all had their arms out, touching the player in front of them, the shoulder. It was a really neat scene. From there, this match, it unfolded, i guess kind of the way i would have expected. I didnt really expect the usa to lose much i expected to see a draw. But the usa, they played pretty well. Germany just played that much better. And luckily, you know, it was Christian Renaldo that actually saved the day for the usa, effectively knocking them out. And so now, yeah, were looking forward to a round of 16 fixture, which will be either the usa and belgium or the usa and algeria. Were going to be finding that out later this evening. So wait. We should be maybe in some weird alternate universe thanking renaldo for taking that team to a win, at least right now. Well leave it there, lara. Thank you so much. And down in brazil. Lindsey tarply, let me bring you in, twotime u. S. Women soccer goal medalist, live in madison, wisconsin. What was your biggest take away watching this match . I was just so proud. I thought they did a great job. They showed a lot of composure in making sure the game didnt get away from them. And at the end of the day, they advanced and its the world cup. Its about finding a way to continue on and to continue playing. So now that, you know, the elation is still, of course, there, but were looking ahead already to this next match, now that team usa is in this knock route round, the first time in history we have done this two world cups in a row. As a player, help me, you know, behind closed doors in the locker room, get in their heads. What are they thinking . How do they prepare . Well, as a player, i think you almost see it as two separate tournaments. So you have your first three games, your goal is to advance. And then now in the knockout stages, its going to be that one game, your entire focus is on winning that game. Rolling your sleeves up and finding a way to win. If its extra time, it doesnt matter. Just making sure that youre putting yourself in the best position to win each game. And what are these players doing in each between these matches . How much rest are they really getting . They are resting. Hopefully theyre drinking water. They had a really tough turnaround from playing in the amazon. They had one less day of rest. And i was so proud of the way they battled today. And even though they lost, they still advanced. And they did what they needed to do to keep going. Im happy that they have a few days now to recover. So im looking forward to their next game. When i was watching the match of audiology all the tvs at cnn, working really hard, i couldnt help cheer the chanting, usa, inside of that stadium. And im wondering, just as a player on the field, do you feel that . Does that help propel you to play better . I think you feel the entire countrys support. Just watching from tv, i just think its such a support system, knowing how much how many people are there, cheering for you, and willing you on. And i think they feel it, you know, tweeting and the hash tags and everything. And we believe. And im just really excited about their next game and cheering them on from here. Lindsey, thank you. And to rachel nichols, let me bring you in, host of cnns unguarded. So as we look forward, do we know or when will we know who the u. S. Faces next . Thats going to be determined later this afternoon. It is most likely going to be belgium on tuesday, 4 00 eastern time. Theres a chance algeria sneaks into that part of draw. But lets go with the odds. Lets go and say that its going to be belgium. Strong team, had a great run up to the world cup. And, yes, belgium has beaten the u. S. The last two times the teams played. But remember what the americans had going for them here as they go into this knockout stage. They just survived what was dubbed the group of death. The hardest group in the entire world cup, so theyve got great confidence. And they did that without one of their best players. Remember, jozy old altidore went down with a hamstring injury in the first fame and hasnt played since. And clinlsman does expect jozy to be ready for tuesdays game. A huge boost to them. An it interesting side note too, brooke, if it does turn out to be belgium. When they got to brazil for the world cup, they were supposed to have a closeddoor scrimmage with belgium of all teams, as their last bit of preparation before these world cup matches. That ended up getting cancelled because of all of the traffic problems brazil was having. We heard about some of those with the weather today, as well. In that case, they just cancelled the closeddoor scrimmage. So instead of playing really in front of no one and an empty pitch and getting ready for the world cup, theyre going to play belgium in all likelihood in the world cup, with this time the whole world watching. So we will know definitively if its belgium tonight. Rachel, thank you. And as we have been watching and you have been watching and some you have may be joining our correspondent, george howell, if you were in the chicago neighborhood today in it grant park. George, its been so fun watching the masses of people coming out and supporting this team. Reporter you know, brooke, a lot of these people, maybe should have been at work. This did happen early in the morning and midday. But, you know, a lot of people skipped work. Maybe there were a couple ferris buhlers in the crowd today. Work brings me here to cover a soccer watch party. How lucky can you get . They expected some 25 to 30,000 people out here. The crowds were pretty big. And watching this game play out. Obviously, a lot of optimism and excitement going into it. And then anxiety. People were nervous when germany scored that goal. At the end, look, people wanted the win, sure. But at the end of the day, the big picture is the u. S. Advances. I think we have a sound bite of a person who really sums it up, if we can take a listen to that. I thought it was a great game. Didnt get the win, but were still advancing, so thats all you can ask for. What did you think . Germany is a great game, but we still got through. We won it. Reporter so there was this chant that i heard just as everyone was starting to leave, and it was even though we lost, we still won. So thats what youre hearing here from chicago. A lot of excitement. A lot of optimism moving forward, brooke. And i like that. We have to watch these matches for work. Thats our excuse. Definitely. George howell for us, live in chicago. Thank you so much, my friend. And we will have much more this hour on the world cup. We will take you back to brazil for a live report with more on what the team was saying right after that match against germany. So stay tuned for that. Coming up next, a story everyone is talking about today. The moment nancy grace, during this interview, informs this father, his missing son was found in his own basement. Im brooke baldwin. And it is no secret. Hlns nancy grace has covered all kinds of missing child cases. But the one youre about to see will probably for her go down in history. She had the father of this 12yearold boy on her show. The man hadnt seen his son since the child left his house almost two weeks ago. But just before she started interviewing this father, she had gotten word the son had been found. Watch, as she breaks the news to this father. Out to the father of the missing 12yearold boy, charlie. With me is his father, charlie bothuell. Charlie, were getting reports that your son has been found in your basement. Sir . Mr. Bothuell, are you what . Yeah. We are getting reports that your son has been found alive in your basement. What . Yes. Thats what if you can hand me that wire, very quickly. Yeah. Were getting that right now. From from yeah. How could your son be alive in your basement . Uh uh oh [ expletive ]. I have no i have no idea. Now, this is just a report that we are hearing out of detroit. That were trying to confirm. Yeah, please. Everybody in new york, please, get on it. Let me know when we get Charlie Langton from wwj. Sir, did you check your basement . I checked my basement, the fbi checked my basement, the Detroit Police checked can my basement. My wife checked my basement. Ive been down there several times. Weve all been checking. How this is what we are hearing. That the missing 12yearold boy has been found alive and well, in his fathers basement. Now, this is what i dont understand, why you guys would have reported hes missing . And all our viewers hes been missing for 11 have been looking out for him . Weve been on the lookout for him. We searched that entire house repeatedly. The fbi searched. The Detroit Police searched. We have all searched. God, they brought dogs, everything. Everybody has searched. What okay. I must have you checked your cell phone . My cell phone is dead. I am and im actually getting town here, i left it in the car charging because it had it had died on me. How about that back and forth. Here she is, nancy grace. I dont know how many times youve watched or thought about that today, and all of the missing children cases you have covered, was that a first for you . Yes, it was, brooke. And i cant even count the number of missing children, abused children, cases that ive prosecuted myself, all the way back to 1987, and covered. And never once have i had a child that ive been personally working on the case, covering the case, be gone that long, that i could recall, that had a happy ending like this. Much less, happening on the air. And it all happened so quickly. When we first started the segment, i didnt even know this. And you can actually see at one juncture, im holding my arm out getting them i didnt want to take my eyes off the father, he was afraid to even blink, because i wanted to watch every single nuance on his face. And i was trying to get them to hand me the wire so i could find out what was going on. And there are so many Different Cases out there, just hearing from one of your producers, said you were really passionate particularly about this story because you had heard about this father in the detroit area going door to door to door looking for his son. And so now we have these details coming out, apparently how the son was found behind these boxes in this massive fivegallon drum in this basement, and at one point there was cereal and soda with him, which begs the question, was he hidden, did he put himself there is this a lot of people have jumped on this father today, nancy grace. What are you thinking . Im not ready to jump on the father yet. And ill tell you why. I kept watching him. I watched him after the segment was over. I watched him as he unhooked. I was watching his face. At first, i was skeptical with his response back to me. It didnt seem real. But when you throw a civilian in front of a camera, and you give them news like this, i dont know how i would expect them to react. Then when he gets home, this is is very probative to me. He was laughing and crying at the same time, and hugging everybody. He wanted to see his son. Now, this is what i dont like. Apparently, bloody clothing and some pvc pipe has been found in the boys room. Reportedly, there there are spots of blood elsewhere. What does that mean . I dont know. Also, police say that barricade had been made out of furniture like a dresser, a 55gallon drum. Boxes. It didnt look as if this little boy could have set it up. There was also a pallet back there, where there was a very tiny nook where he was staying. In addition to cereal and soda, we now learned there was fresh chicken and gatorade, very important. He had not been using the bathroom in the basement. So where did he go . Because it didnt smell foul, according to fbi and police. If he had been missing for two weeks, it would have stunk. And i confirmed that the police looked in the basement, fbi looked in the basement. He and the stepmother looked in the basement. I found it odd the stepmother would not give a polygraph to local police. But the father voluntarily gave one to the fbi. So it kind of negates there. Also, what i dont like is people saying, oh, this kid is a runaway. Well, that is not entirely true. The one time, brooke, this child went missing, it was for a couple hours. I was first told it was between takes and hours. But it was a couple of hours. The mother, the bio mom, his mommy, lives about two miles away. And he was by her house when he was found, apparently going to see his mommy. I dont count that as an unruly runaway. So ive got to figure out, why did this child want to be away and lost for two weeks . Why . What had happened in that home . I know the father home schools him. And apparently the father had told him that in the fall they were moving, and he may have to go to a different school, possibly even a military boarding school. Ah, okay. So some of it, the dots still not fully connecting. No, theyre not. Theyre not. But well watch you tonight. I mean, just the father is joining me. The father is joining me tonight. But i would like to find out why the boy left the home. Stay on it, nancy grace. Well stay in touch with you. Will do. Watch tonight 8 00 eastern. Nancy grace, thank you so much. President obama loses a fight with Senate Republicans over what are called recess appointments. So the Supreme Court ruled today, unanimously, that president obama did indeed overstep the law when he appointed those three people to the nlrb, the National Labor relations board, without senate approval, while the senate was on that brief break. So senior legal analyst, jeffrey toob toobin, is in washington to explain here what the court found that the president did wrong. You know, brooke, germany was a very tough team. There is no doubt that, you know, we played them close, and worry moving scotus im sorry, im a little distracted. I was like so involved in the game. It was exciting. The decision today is its a big defeat for president obama. Because there has been so much intransigence on the part of the republicans refusing to confirm his nominees to various positions. And now, not only cant he do it in the future, because the court has basically said the republicans can keep the senate in session, essentially as long as they want, the decisions made by the nlrb, when those those commissioners were in place, are now all up for grabs again and the nlrb has to look again. Its a big mess. New york city. Their attempt to ban those big old, you know, sugary drinks. The state Appeals Court refused today to reinstate that ban. Is that is this fight over . It is. Because this was really a Signature Initiative of may your bloomberg, who, of course, is not in office anymore. Who was very concerned about public health, you know, famous crusader against smoking. And his idea was to sort of nudge people to get smaller sodas, 16 ounces would be the biggest one. Yes, you could buy two it wasnt to stop you from buying a lot of soda. Just didnt want you to buy that one really big one. Exactly. But it didnt apply in every store. Wouldnt apply in 7elevens, and the court said, look, if the state legislature wants to pass a law like this, it can be done. But the mayor of new york cant couldnt do it by himself. The new mayor, mayor de blasio, has shown no particular interest in this issue. So i think the 20ounce soda is a fleeting legacy of may your mike bloomberg. Jeff toobin and to end where we began with the world cup. President obama weighed into this knockout stage of this whole thing. Hes at a town hall in minneapolis. Take a listen. I have to begin by congratulating our u. S. Soccer team, team usa for advancing. Next round of the world cup. We usa usa audience usa, usa, usa absolutely we were in whats called the group of death. And even though we didnt win today, we were in the toughest grouping, and you know, we got through. And so weve just still got a chance to win the world cup. And we could not be prouder of them. They are defying the odds, and earned a lot of believers in the process. And i want everybody on the team to know that all of us back home are really proud of them. So, you know, i let me tell you something. Okay. So its saying something when the president of the United States off his plane goes sort of offscript and talks about the world cup. So as we are advancing, awesome news for team usa. What does that mean looking ahead as we are into this knockout phase of the world cup . Who might we take on next . Should we be afraid . But despite that soggy loss, the u. S. Will still advance, because of the other game this afternoon playing at exactly can the same time. Portugal beat ghana. So now the u. S. Goes to whats called the knockout round. That means one loss and you are out. Lara baldasarra in recifrecife, brazil. Who might we be matching up with, how will we look going into that match . Reporter well, we know the u. S. Will be playing the team that finishes first in another group, group h. That will either be belgium oral jeria. Right now its belgium who has the lead on that group. But it is still up in the air. Belgium, this is a team that was considered the dark horse for the world cup. A very young team. The average age 26 years old. And this is full of some worldclass players. Theres players on this team like eden hazar, plays for chelsea, a big club in england. And people are actually comparing him to messy a fantastic young player. This is a team that people are saying this might not be their year. Its more four years from now and belgium will be a real threat. But either way, i think this will be a very good matchup for the u. S. I dont think they have very many problems with them. The other matchup, though, if the u. S. Faces algeria, i think there would be no problem there whatsoever. Algeria, not a very strong team. Not that great of a team. Its actually pretty surprising that theyre in the position theyre in their group, and keep in mind, brooke, the usa and algeria have history here. Ill take you back to 2010 in the group stage, which is just what we finished in the world cup. The usa beat algeria 10, with a goal from Landon Donovan in the dying seconds of the game. And thats what kept them alive in the world cup. So whenever you go into a game like that, you kind of have that on your side, you know that. And it gives you a boost. So either belgium or algeria. Either way, the u. S. In my mind is the favorite. I love it, knocking on my plastic desk. Lara, thank you very much. What was once a very rainy recife, brazil. Next, was a tragic accident, was it murder . We are learning new information today about that father in georgia, justin ross harris, accused of leaving his toddler in that sweltering hot suv. The internet of everything is changing manufacturing. Is your Network Ready . We do have some new details to share with you about that case of a georgia father charged with felony murder, murdering his infant son here. Autopsy results reveal 22monthold Cooper Harris died from hypothermia, overheating the body. Police say coopers father, 33yearold justin harris, intentionally left him sitting in a boiling suv. The temperature outside that day in Metro Atlanta topped 90 degrees. The temperatures inside the truck could have been as high as 130. So it was heat. Despite public outcry about the severity of harris charges, investigators say there is more to this case than meets the eye. And that evidence points to a homicide. There are even reports that police searched harris work computer, and discovered someone had performed some google searches on how long it takes an animal to die in a hot car. But when asked about that particular search, authorities werent talking. What can you tell us about the search of his computer showing that someone used his work computer to search for how long it would take for an animal to die in a hot car. Were not going to get into the specifics of the case. As i said, the search warrants have been applied for. There have been some search warrants that have been granted. But as far as the execution of the search warrants and the evidence revealing any information obtained, that is not being released by the Cobb County Police department at this time. And that is merely speculation. We have cnns Martin Savidge outside the Cobb County Police department for us and joining me here in studio, phillip holloway, criminal defense attorney. Martin, can you just expound upon this new bit of information were getting today in the investigation . Well, a couple things. Of course, what you were just talking about there, the possibility of the computer having some kind of intel in this case. We all know now, its standard practice, any electronics you have are going to be likely to be warranted. In other words, somebody is going to come looking, especially investigators, because they have a lot of information, either knowingly or unknowingly, that is gathered by them. So thats going to be standard procedure there. And we are waiting to hear what those warrants will reveal. Then yes, you mentioned the cause of death. Death, out, rele attributed to the hypothermia. If it wasnt hypothermia in a this, we would have really been shocked. It was pointed out that toxicology results are not somebody asked why would you t 22monthold pretty much, hey, we cover the regardl will anything further, we dontknow. So thats where it stands right now. And then the reduction of the going from first degree that ra eyebrows too. But theres still looking for . As mentioned at the press conference lastnight, in it turns out to be there was a sea kill an animal in a hot car, that points to premeditation, ee chamber, because that would be unusually heinous, unusually kis to mind is anthony, and she was not convicted. Theyre going have to that, if it exists, and have to figure out if hes even the one that it and what mean. So theres a lot more theyre going to have to go through and decipher to determine exactly i was doing it andwhy. But if that he was doing it nefarious purpose, its a whole case. Much more okay. Very much. Well in close cobb geor not have to be a video buff to go pro it is but the camera is interesting quite the story you will hear from him, next. [ man ] look how beautiful it is. The woes of American Immigration system is a lightning rod for controversy. We profile an army veteran who might be a perfect example here. You worked for the justice department. Yes, sir. The agency that manages the bureau, that does the immigration policy. Right. You werent legal. According to the records, i was not. I think that maybe something that had been misplaced. Reporter arriving from cuba at age 9, hernandez had legal status here, but not citizenship, and never should have had the jobs he did. He only found out last year, when he and his wife wanted to take a cruise to celebrate his retirement. So he applied for a passport. The immigration system is not broken. It is a disaster. They had a billion dollars in sales last year. So people are definitely buying the products. Today, we found out wall street loves the company because theyve priced the shares at the higher end of the range. That means investors had a lot of demand for this company. But whats really fascinating about this entire story is that it is a Success Story built on a slight change in perspective as you mentioned before, i spoke to the Ceo Nick Woodman and asked him how he plans to stay on top. Take a listen. Thats a traditional camera is meant for one person to film another person or another thing happening. Thats what a smartphone does. It killed the opportunity for a flip camera. Gopro enables people to film themselves. Right . And turn it the camera around on themselves and capture life from any perspective imaginable. Brooke, whats also very important to highlight is that nick woodman knows that in order to generate future growth for the company, it cannot stay solely a cameramaker. It has to expand and become a Immediate Company and monetize on that user generated content. People go online and post their goal pro videos. And he wants to make money off the fact that people are posting and sharing those. The question is how do you do it . So far hes been pretty successful. I picked up a magazine recently and reading this back story on the ceo on nick and found it fascinating these people who have bright ideas, right . Its sort of a simple idea, take a camera, he was sort of this surfer dude, right, who was like i would like to get picturers and went around the world, and voila, hes been incredibly successful. Absolutely. There is another challenge hes got to get over. Weve seen companies can like this in early days be phenomenally successful. When they try and transform themselves or pivot into another area, thats where they trip up. For gopro, its very important they execute on this, quote unquote, media strategy theyve been talking to people about. Thats the challenge ahead for him. He is a visionary and he did, you know, he did a lot to build this company to a 3 billion company today. This guys making a ton of money today. So well have to see whats in store for him ahead. Again, a lot of challenges there. Kristin alessi, cnn money. Ahead of tonight, the 60s, its a decade that shaped america, pivotal to our history for so many reasons including civil rights.
