Meeting with a number of anchors and executives. Today it was a meeting with the New York Times, and at one point he was going, wasnt going, was going. Give us the latest. Reporter you got it, brianna. Despite a tweet storm targeting the New York Times, donald trump announced finally hell have a 12 30 meet with the publication. He will meet with reporters and executives at the publication, even tweeting out he is looking forward to it. But it was much different donald trump on twitter just about six hours ago when he alerted his 15. 7 million followers that he was cancelling that muchanticipated meeting with the New York Times. He said he was cancel it because of changed terms and conditions at the last minute. No word exactly what that means, and then went further and said, he tweeted New York Times had given him unfair and biased coverage, covering him in what he thought was a nasty tone. And came out and said to a pool of reporters inside trump to you are we are going to the New York Times. Donald trump took to twitter again confirming that 12 30 meeting with the in the. Part of it off the record, part of it on the record. Expecting donald trump to leave trump tower at some point to head that way for that anticipated meeting with the New York Times. Brianna . We still havent seen a press conference from donald trump yet, despite being elected two weeks ago. Last night he put out a 2. 5 minute social media framing it as putting america first. Talked about a multitude of topics in a short time. Talking about trade, national security, ethics reform. Heres a little what he had to say. I am going to issue our notification of intent to withdraw from the transpacific partnership, a potential disaster for our country. Instead, we will negotiate fair, bilateral trade deals that bring jobs and industry back on to american shores. So donald trump touching on a multitude of topics there, but not touching on some of his big campaign promises. Like building that wall on the border of mexico, or repealing obama care, or deporting illegal immigrants. He did touch on immigration, though, saying he would direct the department of labor to investigate visas he said was undercutting the American Public and also, brianna, today, looking at the possibility of donald trump adding and announcing to more of his economic team. We understand that hes narrowing down some of the picks for treasury secretary as well as commerce secretary. Multiple sources telling us that the two names at the forefront for treasury secretary are steve mnuchin, former investor at Goldman Sachs as well as jonathan gray, head of Global Real Estate at Blackstone Group and also the leading contender, we understand, for commerce secretary, the billionaire investor wilbur ross. His supporters are so attached to him, i dont know what it does to his supporters, but you know it is striking, him sort of giving up this main pledge of his campaign. Maybe they thought it would just be hyperbole. Lets listen to it. We have it from october. This is donald trump. She gets a subpoena. She gets a subpoena, and after, not before, that would be bad, but after getting the subpoena to give over your emails and lots of other things, she deleted the emails. She has to go to jail. [ cheers ] now, he may have had a point up to that point where he said, she has to go to jail, because the issue here, eric, whether hes saying she has to go to jail or saying theres not going to be an investigation. Its not supposed to be up to the president. Right . This is supposed to be a decision for the justice department. The fbi director, the attorney general, detached from the white house and political influence. Trump saying both before and after the election, or his campaign manager, and now adviser saying after the election what he would direct his top Law Enforcement officials to do. So its sort of remarkably detached from the way things are supposed to work. On the other hand, winning makes this sort of thing easier. Right . Its easier to forget and sort of move on. Trump supporters are overjoyed by his victory and so now Hillary Clinton is just sort of the past. Right . There doesnt seem to be any anger boiling up from trump world, from frump istrump psupp live that with the campaign and not follow through with the promise. And looking at checks and balances and having concerns. Donald trump talking about his first 100 days, put out a video. And what is really stunning is that hes not talking about there being a wall. Hes not talking about an obama care repeal. No muslim ban. Maybe thats not much of a surprise, but what is he talking about, and what does this tell us . He talks about sort of withdrawing from tpp. The trade deal. You know, some of the talks about scaling back some regulations. Sort of easier things to talk about. You know, but also struck sort of in the days after he started talking about building a fence, in some cases. Not a wall. You do have a sense of him backing down from some of his Main Campaign pledges, which, again, could eventually become a problem with his supporters. For now its sort of bridging the divide, being seen that way, at least. I want to talk about not hearing from donald trump. We have a video. Hes obviously been tweeting up a storm. Hes taken a few shouted questions, but its been now two weeks and he hasnt had a press conference. Look what normally happens. I feel like sometimes when youre talking about donald trump, that maybe that isnt the best that you you cant always compare him pap graphic we have for president obama, three days before there was a press conference. Same with george w. Bush. Clinton going the longest with nine day, but donald trump now here with 14 days and all you have is Kellyanne Conway saying its going to be soon. What do you think about this . And to many people who certainly, i think, are critical of the media, why is this important . This matters, because well, first of all, because trump is on twitter sort of taking shots that reveal where his head is at. At least when waking up in the morning. Right . Hes ranting about the cast of hamilton and the New York Times. A lot of people are wondering what is actually on his mind right now . What hes thinking about as he prepares to enter the oval office. What his priorities are. What hes going to carry over from the campaign, what hes going to leave behind. People are also interested in insight into what his cabinet is going to look like. Right now there are three more people named mike in this administration than women or people are color, and so there are a lot of Unanswered Questions at this point. The expectation is that he would do a News Conference to sort of address these sorts of things. As you pointed out, this is donald trump. Authorities say, though in that affidavit, appears the bus went off the side of the road to the right, may have struck a driveway or elevated portion of a driveway, and then overcorrected left. When it flipped on its side again, moving so quickly, that even racing across the ground on its side, it slams into a tree and is nearly split in half. America was until this past generation a white country, designed for ourselves and our posterity. It is our creation. It is our inheritance, and it belongs to us. Trumps Transition Team responded through a statement saying, president elect trump has continued to denounce racism of any kind, and he was elected because he will be a leader for every american. To think otherwise is a complete misrepresentation of the movement that united americans from all backgrounds. I want to ask you first, steve, why is donald trump himself directly on twitter attacking the cast of hamilton and yet leaving the criticism of White Supremacists to his Transition Team in a statement that certainly wouldnt be as strong as something that would come from him directly . Well, brianna, my answer first of all i would like to say and not speaking on ball of transition but a supporter of trump, those views and actions by that group in that room in washington, theyre reprehensible in every sense. Weve denounced as a campaign, denounced those views countless times. The candidate himself did and the president elect did. Its not quite fair to say he didnt speak to this. He did in his 60 minutes interview looked directly in the camera, anyone who thinks they should be in anyway acting in a bigoted manner in my name, he said, stop it. That is not part of who we are as a movement i thinkmy movement big nudenough, we are a movemenf tens of millions of people, youre bound to disdisreputable people true on the left and right. We dont in any way endorse this group. Quite the opposite. We condemn them, and those folks, left the room, gone a few blocks gone to the world war ii memorial they would have seen what a dear price america opposed for what they are sadly mimicki mimicking. We made that very clear. There a supporters of donald trump saying i should not be lumped in with these people. These are 200 people in a room. What do you say to that . Thats fair. Not all trump supporter, not all people who voted for him are in any way the types of bigots we saw in display in d. C. We need to be clear and remember that. That said, i think the American People no matter who they voted for know that you need to consistently speak out against the type of hatred that we saw. This is not just something that exists in a vacuum in d. C. This country is experiencing hate incidents that target jews, that target minorities of all kinds. At the same time when people are logging online, whether on their phone or back of their computer, theyre also experiencing the type of hate that is referencing this past president s campaign. Its not about one event in d. C. Its about a bigger issue were seeing throughout the country on all platforms, and consistency and specific condemnation of the types of people that are engaged in this is important. Generalitiy wont do. And i think you make a great point there. Donald trump is on his way to the New York Times for an interview, one in which hell be asked about this for sure and i hope he condemns any kind of hate. A couple things, i dont think america has ever been more divided. Youre right unfortunately that in my lifetime than it is right now, and we need to work on that division. I think donald trump has made it clear he wants to work on unifying. I think a big part of that is economic growth. Not just culture, also the economy. How is he doing that, steve, when you look at a top appointment being steve bannon, someone who provided a platform, proudly, for the alt right as they call themselves, on breitbart . I want to play something that a former spokesman for breitbart said about this. No matter what donald trump says about this or any specific incident, the reality is his own guy is one of the real leaders of this whole alt right movement and he designed the platform as a feeding ground for all of these people. So how can anyone take anything donald trump says about race and about this platform with any credibility when his chief adviser is the guy whos running the whole thing . I know want to change the conversation, steve, to the economy and so many voters and americans are concerned about that. Same time, this issue has given some fuel in a way when Something Like this happens and there isnt a direct condemnation. You said the 60 minutes condemnation, but that was probably the strongest one weve heard, and hes been mealymouthed about other ones and appointed steve bannon, who some say, hes not maybe a part of the alt right but an enabler of it . You know, i would push back with that. From my own personal experience a hispanic part of his campaign and deeply involved, i can tell you from the inside, the most tolerant group of people i can imagine being around. Didnt care much about your skin color, orientation or gender. Cared a lot about talent and the moving the country forward. Regarding steve bannon, the criticisms are unfair. I really do. He is not the alt right. Certainly is not racist or antisemitic or bigoted. A lot of accusations, theres no credibility to those accusations. In fact, speaking specifically to these supposed antijewish bias of him, in fact, look at breitbart from its founder all through today its primarily a jewishled organization all of whom worked intensely with steve bannon and say the exact opposite is true. He has a global empire with business interests across the world, in many continents and countries, and steps are under way now through the Trump Organization to make sure that there is a clear tie. Look, he has made it quite clear he is going to take the necessary steps. His children will run the Business Empire of trumps organization. We have 65 days. The key, the part of this transition. Its not just to build a president ial campaign but transition from such a Global Business leader to putting that in the hands of his children and allowing them to do that. I have no doubt whatsoever the steps are being made. Its not something theyre going to talk about and rule out every day, but the proper steps are being made to make sure all business ties are severed. The problem with that, its true this time is for a transition, but the transition should be to start letting the American People know and reassure the American People that his massive Business Empires oversees across the globe are not goi to be a conflict of interest. What he has done, alice, completely the opposite. Yes, we knew from the very beginning he was going to turn over his business interesting to his children. Guess what . His daughter has been in meetings with Prime Ministers, with president s, and with Business People from across the world. How does that give us reassurance that this is a man who is not going to sell the United States out to banks where he owes money, to Business Ventures that are going to make him millions across the globe . Especially because there is no firewall with his children. If hes going to put that firewall in, start doing it now. I wonder, as we talk about this, and just this election in general, because you had in this election two candidates who were going to have issues. Im not going to liken exactly the Clinton Foundation to the trump thank you. Organization. It is obviously a Charitable Organization. But at the same time, its also a platform and has been a platform for the clintons. So there was a gray area there. What was going to happen with that . Isnt it just whether or not you had either candidate . There were going to be issues . Even Hillary Clinton. Did she, without putting in the firewall shed promised she would sort of normalize this idea of whats acceptable . You cant compare one with the other. First of all, because Hillary Clinton did not make a personal dime from what was the work of the Clinton Foundation. A Charitable Organization that saved lives around the world. The Trump Organization there was an appearance. An appearance. I dont mean to litigate the past on that. But heres the issue with that, brianna. Imagine if Hillary Clinton had won and if Chelsea Clinton was with her at every single meeting that she was having as they were putting the transition in place . Oh, my god. There would be hearings, fox news specials. An independent prosecutor. Its ridiculous, the kind of hypocrisy thats happening, and the kind of blind eye republicans are looking at this in terms of a massive conflict of interest. Donald trump had a meeting as president elect with nigel faraj. British mr. Brexit guy. And he encouraged him, and this is according to the New York Times and auentourage, windmil. How is that appropriate . Ethical for a president elect . There are certain things moving through this transition process he has to start severing president ial talks with business talks, and many of the conversations that have been reported on didnt happen the way theyve been reported, but to be fair, hes got a transition period to phase out of the Business Aspect and move into the president ial, and referring to the Clinton Foundation, look, there is two separate causes here. Ones a Charitable Foundation and one being business foundations but we have evidence with the Clinton Foundation of the pay to play aspects of people making donations. There is no evidence of that, alice. And in fact, what we have is an actual violation from the Internal Revenue service on the Trump Foundation. So that is actual breaking of the law, whereas the other thing complete and total innuendo. I want to talk about that, because the Internal Revenue service, this is what happened. According to the washington post, paying attention to some of this information put out. A new filing to the irs shows the Trump Foundation apparently admitted it violated a legal prohibition against selfdealing, when nonprofit leaders take money from their chafrt is and then they use it to enrich themselves. We dont know exactly what this pertains to, but one of the things reported was that donald trump used 20,000 from the foundation to purchase a very large portrait of himself. Right. So that is sort of in the vein of what were talking about. What does that say to you when you see this new filing . When you look at it, just from the news first came out, about how those funds were being used, no one can deny it doesnt look appropriate for Charitable Funds to be used for that, purchase of a portrait. No kwone can deny a that. The other findings comes out today, the beginning of this investigation. Its good theyre putting it out on the take at this point, but its the beginning of the investigation and interesting to see how this unfolds. He just needs to do so much more to reassure the American People, and he needs to understand republicans need to understand there is absolutely no mandate here. Hes got to do a lot more to bring people together. Hillary clinton is about to cross the threshold of a 2 million popular vote lead. He needs to understand that if he really wants to be the president for everybody and not just the supporters who brought him to office, he needs to make these jez chers gestures now.
