Fanning out across the state to hold rallies and events to drum up support. Senator Bernie Sanders held a rally earlier. What was his message to voters . Reporter were in carson city, a city Bernie Sanders won in 2016, even though he lost the nevada caucuses to Hillary Clinton he did well in the northern counties. Interesting to see him draw contrast between him and Pete Buttigieg and raising money with millionaires and billionaires. Both took it to mike bloomberg. Take a look at what they had to say. As you know, we have the former mayor of new york city, not bill de blasio, the guy that went to war but bloomberg. Bloomberg is struggling. Hes down to his last 60 billion. Life is hard, you know. Food prices going up, housing going up. How you going to make it on 60 billion . I am sorry to transport you that the chief proponent of stopandfrisk is in fact running for president of the United States in this election. So here you saw the crowd booing at the mention of mike bloomberg. Mike bloomberg, for his part, has apologized several time in the last week or so for the stopandfrisk policies. You will see sanders likely to continue to hit him on. From carson city, nevada, thank you. Joe biden is predicting a first or second place finish in nevada, where gary tuchman has been talking with africanamerican evangelical voters to gage their president ial preference. What they said may surprise you. [ applause ] reporter this is the fountain of hope church in las vegas, evangelical africanamerican church. The eyes of the nation are now on nevada. Right . Right. Reporter we asked Church Members attending an evangelism conference to talk to us about the caucuses, the first nominating contest in a diverse state. How many are leaning towards joe biden . Seven. Reporter joe biden is among three candidates who did well among this group. He wasnt number one of. How many are leaning towards Elizabeth Warren . Seven. Reporter Elizabeth Warren tied with biden. Who is the candidate that gets the most support here . How many are leaning towards tom steyer. Eight. What do you like about tom steyer . I like the fact he has fire in his belly. Reporter tom steyer and groups supporting him have spent around 14 million on tv ads in nevada, compared to under a million for both biden and warren. Steyer has spent considerable Campaign Time on the state. He seems to be passionate about the people and seems to be real about what it is hes setting out to do. Tom is direct and to the point. I believe he can do and claim what donald trump really is, a fraud and failure. Reporter as for joe biden, his supporters tout againness. I think he honestly cares about helping not a small group of people but majority of people. Not just africanamerican people but all minorities in general. I will probably caucus for joe biden. Reporter based on iowa and New Hampshire, are you worried he might not be electable now . Im not worried because i dont think iowa and New Hampshire are reflective of the country. Reporter for Elizabeth Warren. I like the way she handle trump with the pocohantas thing. She didnt let it get to her. She has that dismissive way, like nancy, of putting trump in his place. My heart says elizabeth and now my mind kind of tells me bloomberg. Reporter Michael Bloomberg got some interest here even though hes not on the nevada caucus ballot. I like bloomberg because he has the money, he has the experience and he knows what kind of person trump really is. Reporter President Trump has a lot of support from evangelical christians so we thought he could have some support here. How many of you are leaning towards donald trump for president . That is not the case. Is it important to you to get a candidate who can beat donald trump . Yes reporter is that more important than a candidate who shares your principles you might think the nevada caucuses are saturday, february 22nd. Gary tuchman, cnn. Las vegas. Now to the chairman of the dnc and former president ial candidate, howard dean and former democratic governor of michigan, governor granholm. Governor dean are you surprised . I was a little surprised how well tom steyer is doing but he has spent a lot of time on the airways. The difference between 8 and 7 out of an audience of 32 is not satistically significant, it just shows the congregation is fairly well divided. The thing that interested me the most is that congregation could have been anybody anywhere. It was an africanamerican congregation but africanamerican voters sound pretty much like everybody else these days. Governor granholm, did you have any takeaways . I would have loved to seen the answer about how many of them would have supported Bernie Sanders. As weve seen in the latest poll out of nevada, and we havent had a lot of polls out of nevada, Bernie Sanders seems to be doing well. He picked up, i think, seven points from the last poll there, from the beginning of january. Biden pretty much held the same. Then, you saw a little bit of surge from Amy Klobuchar and tom steyer. It really shows you money really has an impact in these elections because tom steyer has been spending very generously in nevada and South Carolina. Governor dean, Amy Klobuchar is gaining momen full. Momentum. Shes beefing up staff in nevada and raised 12 million in a little over a week and put in newspaper ads in california and even texas. What do you see as her biggest hurdle . Name recognition at this point. She got a late start. She has tremendous momentum at the best point you could have coming out of iowa and New Hampshire. These next two states are critical for her. The jump between the first two states and super tuesday in enormous. Name recognition will play a huge role on super tuesday theyre not really playing now. Candidates are touting the millions theyre raising here and there and money does make a difference. These millions they have is nothing compared to the 400 million Michael Bloomberg has already sent on ads along. Klobuchar said he is hiding behind his money. He has not gone on any sunday shows since he announced. Ive got to answer questions like i just did on my record. He has to do the same thing. I dont think you should be able to hide behind airways and huge ad buys. Berg is one poll away from making the debate stage in nevada, considering he is moving up in the polls getting his message out in a way he can control, will it help him or hurt him to be on that debate stage . That is the question. Super interesting, isnt it . Some affiliated with his business interests in the past arguing he shouldnt go on the debate stage because he may not be the greatest debater and may be a little stiff or unemotional. Amy klobuchar has been kicking butt in these debates. Of course she would want him. Anybody would want him. You see what Elizabeth Warren is doing and Bernie Sanders by saying, you cant buy an election and joe biden saying, i want to ask him about stopandfrisk. If he gets one more poll and makes it, it will be an amazing debate. Im super excited to watch it. He will be the fly paper onto which all these attacks come. What are your thoughts on that, governor dean . I agree with that. There was a brouhaha when the dnc changed their criteria and went away quickly as soon as the other candidates who were mad bloomberg bought his way in realized onehalf didnt want him in and the others wanted a shot at him. This is a healthy thing. If bloomberg is a serious contender he ought to be on the debate stage. And if he does get on joe bidens campaign struggled a little bit after the first couple of contests in iowa and New Hampshire where he didnt perform the way he hoped, i think is safe to say. We talked about the lack of diversity and joe biden said South Carolina is where he has had at this point a lot of africanamericans. Flurries are signs that firewall is cracking, according to politico. Governor grantham, do you think if iowa had not come before, it would come this way . Yes. Of course. We have denounced these candidates to these homogenous white states. We should have all four states on the first day of voting to have a representation for the whole country. If these two states had gone first it would be a completely different story, i think. I cant tell you how much momentum tracks the way these states are ordered and we ought to be thinking about that as a party. Im curious what governor dean thinks about that and i think its wrong to rely on these nondiverse states. What do you think, governor dean . When i was chairman, we added South Carolina and nevada. We couldnt get them up front because of the political opposition of the people supporting New Hampshire and iowa was too great and i had too many other things i had to do. We did put them up front along with New Hampshire and iowa. I think the next time around, if we win the presidency, you wont see any change. No sitting democratic president will change the nominating process that got them there. If we dont win, you will see iowa and New Hampshire will no longer be first. They will both scream and carry on but the power of a strong chair can overcome that. Thank you very much. Always enjoy our conversations. As we mentioned, joe biden talked a lot about his southern firewall. When asked if he needs to win South Carolina, biden has given a different answer. He is down playing expectations like he did in iowa and New Hampshire. A biden supporter joins us live. It begins by being privately owned. Nevada is a state that looks like america. Its your turn now to decide who you want to be the leader of your party and the next president of to the United States. Im here to audition. That is former Vice President joe biden stumping in nevada ahead of the caucuses although early voting has begun there. Larvae a lackluster voting in iowa and New Hampshire, he is looking for much needed fuel for his candidacy. A surrogate for biden, congressman is here. Thank you for joining us. Is it do or die time for biden in South Carolina . Theres no doubt we have to do well. After nevada and South Carolina we roll into super tuesday. We roll into states like nevada and South Carolina that are more diverse, look more like the Democratic Party than iowa and New Hampshire did. Theyre awfully important states but not reflective of the party. Do you expect him to win in nevada and South Carolina . Im the eternal optimist. I always expect to win. We need to make sure we do well. What does doing well look like . Can he make the case for electability if he doesnt win in those next two contests, especially after where he ended up in iowa and New Hampshire . Absolutely he can. He has been hobbled by you good folks in the media. I know youre doing your job and want to report a horse race and doing a good job, im not blaming you for what youre doing. The press reports havent been good since he basically got in the race. He remains the frontrunner but hes been attacked by all his democratic opponents. Its been a tough road to showette hes shown a bit of teflon with the fact that hes still here and all we have to do is breeze in on next tuesday and nevada and do well in South Carolina. Im not so sure you can call him the frontrunner normal now that the voters have already spoken. He finished fourth in iowa and fifth in New Hampshire and other candidates getting more votes. He currently has six delegates to buttigiegs 23 and klobuchars seven. Lets talk about South Carolina. I get your point about diversity in the upcoming contest. Biden called South Carolina his firewall. Politico is reporting cracks are emerging. Im quoting, it says some point to bidens message is a problem. His soul of the nation rhetoric and electability rooted in the used of returning america back to its pretrump state dont motivate voters and support from the older prominent black lawmakers they argue dont incite the young to build a Winning Coalition in november. To that criticism, you say what. I say sit back and watch. I know a thing or two about africanamerican voters and know how desperately we want to save the soul of our nation and get rid of President Trump as president of the United States. I know how we trust joe biden. He was with president obama every step of the way and chosen to be the vp and watch his back. The nation owes him a debt of gratitude. I will be happy to come back and get whatever punishment you want to give me but im telling you he will do well in South Carolina and we will roll into super tuesday not having reinvented ourselves but by being joe biden and letting the world know who we are. Let me play a clip where joe biden was speaking about africanamerican support. I have overwhelming support from minorities. You cant take it for granted. Im the only one with the background and support. They know me and know who i am. Congressman, his support among black voters have dropped more than 20 points in the last poll. Why do you think hes losing support . I dont think hes losing support. That is a poll out there and we can all find the polls we want to find. Just in nevada alone we just picked up the endorsement of my colleague, steve, the own africanamerican congressman in nevada. We continue to pick up africanamerican endorsements across the country. We understand what a poll might say but the only one that matters is where people walk into the voting booth and cast their vote. We have every reason to believe he will continue to do well with africanamerican voters and latino voters. Remember, 97 of latino and africanamerican voters havent had a chance to have their say yet. The media wants to somehow suggest their votes will change and fade out and just trying to chase a winner. I would suggest to you theyre standing on principal, they know joe biden and his record. He is the only one that doesnt need training on day one and will walk in the white house and know exactly what to do and save the soul of this nation and get us back on good footing across the globe. That means a lot. Thank you. I want to bring in a senior Entertainment Writer for espn. You interviewed him in 2018 after he retired from basketball. What struck you most about him . The same discipline he brought for two decades and prepared to take to his next chapter dominating hollywood. As i told him back then he did the most kobe bryant thing ever, the first thing he does in hollywood, earns and oscar nomination. Who does that . Kobe bryant, of course. He talks a lot about that and even more special considering what happened last month, talked about how his role as a dad was as important as anything he was doing in the game of basketball. I said if you won the oscar, what would you do with it . Probably sleep with it. His wife and baby and the oscar. He said he had to go coach his daughter gigi and then he would see if he won and oscar, which he did. What an underachiever that kobe bryant. You wrote a piece after his death about how nba athletes transform themselves after they retire and you talked about him making his own way in hollywood, through storytelling. As you point out he went on to be very successful at that. I talked to some of his friends about the night of the Helicopter Crash, i should say. They talked about how passionate he was as a writer, rapper. Tell us about that part of bryant you maybe got to discover a little bit. Yeah. I think like a lot of athletes, we as a society tend to box them in and tell them you can only do one thing. Kobe was very much about this prov proven stereotype, disrupting stereotype. Even though we were celebrating him two decades what he was doing on the Basketball Court he never let go of his passion for writing. He said a teacher told him earlier in his career, forget about the writing thing and he didnt. He said this is proof he can do something more than just dribble and shoot. Writing was the thing that would introduce this next chapter. Not for nothing. He had a very impressive slate of things to come in hollywood. I think we will be missing out on more greatness kobe bryant was planning on giving us. What do you want his legacy to be now . I mean i think a couple of things. We will miss out on seeing what his influence he will have in the world of female sports and female basketball. He obviously had a daughter who was walking and following in his footsteps and he wanted to be supportive of that. I think we will miss out having that presence at future female College Basketball games. I think that will be a very important part of his legacy. Just excellence because that is truly what kobe bryant really exemplified as an athlete, absolutely, and certainly as his life after an athlete, his life in hollywood, excellence was always a key. I dont know if he ever actually really slept because he was such a studied young man and really kind of took all this very seriously. I think all of that should be a part of his legacy. I think we will be talking about kobe bryant for a really really long time. I appreciate you taking time to share those memories and give us more insight into a really really impressive individual, kobe bryant, who we honor tonight. Thank you. Thank you. Well be right back. President ial candidate Michael Bloomberg is vowing to always be a champion for women in the workplace. This comment comes as new evidence comes about degrading comments during the 80s and 90s in the company he owned. Interviewing former employees and incidents to the alleged incidents, they released thousands of pages of legal documents and depositions. I want to read you a couple of quotes in this article. The lawsuit said bloomberg berated a female employee who had trouble finding a nanny. Its an f baby al you need is some black who doesnt have to speak english to rescue it from a burningi building. Bloomberg said his companys financial computers will do everything, including giving you oral sex. I guess that puts a lot of you girls out of business, end quote. These are several quotes attributed to bloomberg in lawsuits reviewed by the washington post. His Campaign Offering a staunch denial the former new york mayor made any of these comments. In a statement they said virtually all of this has been reported over the past two decades. In any large organization, there are going to be xhaints. But mike simply does not tolerate any kind of discrimination or harassment and hes created cultures of quality and inclusion. I asked about these alleged remarks. There are a lot of comments and two things particularly in this story, a booklet called the written wisdom of Michael Bloomberg compiled by a top aide, woman who sat next to him for 10 years and presented at his 40th Birthday Party in 1990. There have been quotes from this booklet over the years. I did obtain it from a source and we decided in the interest of transparency so put the entire booklet online so you can go on the website and read it for yourself. He said he doesnt recall these comments and if people were offended he apologized to them. He said he didnt say certain other things. Recently, when we said we put the book online, he said he didnt say any of these things. Suddenly, theres a lawsuit, one we reference particular there in story and he and his folks deny the allegations and statements from the lawsuit. Mr. Bloomberg would not talk to us for the story so these are denials from his spokesperson. I think i have the lawsuit you are referencing, a high profile accusation from a female sales woman who sued him as well as his company. She allege bloomberg told her to quote kill it when he learned she was pregnant. Bloomberg denied this under oath and he reached a confidential settlement with the sales woman. Witness ed this conversation or heard about it. What did you find out . Right, so you reference d th question of something new. This is an individual whos never been interviewed before about this. He said he was there. That he overheard a conversation. The sales woman in the lawsuit said that bloomberg told her to quote, kill it. This individual recalls he said bloomberg said are you going to kill it. This witness who i interviewed said he also found out to be outrageous. He said he never talked about in, her lawsuit and simply had never been talked to before so i interviewed him and we put the audio expert online. You can go online, hear the audio, give his recollection of what he remembers happening. That seems significant this allegation that bloomberg said kill it had been something that was written about. Resources tell me settlement was in the six figures, but bloomberg gave a deposition in the case thats never been made b public. Also there was a conalty agreement and he is to release the woman from the agreement. Having a new witness come forward is an interesting thing and his story is there for readers to read in the story and also hear the audio. Amid the allegations were discussing have to do with very vulgar, degrading language. Are there accusation of sexual misconduct. There are no accusations such as there have been with President Trump. This is all about things that bloomberg said that people thought konz tauted harassment, and also the Workplace Culture herred. So others at the company saying thing, doing things, because the people allege this was a culture that came from the top. One lawsuit says specifically from Michael Bloomberg on down. Again, bloomberg is denying he made the statement, at least through his campaign, theyre denying it. He has said just to be clear, sorry to talk over you, just to be clear, deny certain things, but also said in a statement on the record that bloomberg has said things that dont align with his value and said things that are quote wrong and disrespectful. They were not specific. So i asked them what did he say was wrong, disrespectful . And they dont give specifics. So they make this broad statement. We dont know exactly what hes referring to but they do acknowledge he said things that my their words were wrong and disrespectful. Thats similar to what we receive frd the campaign telling cnn quote, mike openly admits his words have not always aligned with his values in the way that he has led his rielifed some of what he has said is disrespectful and wrong. These alleged incidents are from three and four decades ago. Is bloomberg a different man today. I do quote a story of a man who knew him then that said it was common for them to speak this way. He said bloomberg has changed. He ran for mayor of new york city. 2001, cierserved three terms an changed over time. One of the Company Officials told me their policies regarding for example leave for pregnant woman, mothers with newborns, has been extended. Now to 26 weeks, which is a very generous policy in the industry certainly. So yes they say he has changed, but he doesnt acknowledge exactly what he said before. So presumably he would be asked, can you be more specific. What did you say that was wrong. He hasnt apologized in the same way if he needs to apologize for what he said about stop and frisk. Its a situation where hes acknowledged saying things that are wrong, hasnt said what those things are. Under exactly where he is today. Still ahead, more than 1100 former Justice Department official demand their boss step down as the tourng faces questions about his independence.
