As far as what i have seen to date, it appears there was an investigation, not of the campaign but of certain individuals who have a history that we should be suspicious of that pre date the president ial campaign of 2015, 2016. The question, should the president use the term spygate . I dont know. Probably not but i dont know. I didnt go to the meeting. I dont think its, i dont think hes a spy. And giuliani himself said this just over a week ago. Heres the issue that i really feel strongly about with this informant if there is one. First of all, i dont know for sure if there really was one. He continues to call it a witch hunt despite that there have been more than 20 indictments so far. And this spygate claim seems to be the latest in his saga with the socalled deep state, that he continues to believe is trying to impede, not only his election but further his agenda. Rudolph giuliani was on state of the union this morning with dana bashful he described it as being legitimate was one part of a fascinate examining change. He acknowledged that he and the president have to try to delegitimize the russia investigation. Not necessarily for legal reasons but more so for political ones. We know that the White House Legal Team and the special counsel have been ironing out details of an interview. He said he if the president decide not to do this interview, this investigation would have been over. He said the president still wants to sit down with mueller. All right. It has been apparent with anyone watching that the president has attempted to systematically undermine the Mueller Investigation but this is the first time weve heard somebody on his team come right out and admit that. Is that significant . Give credit to giuliani for being honest. This has been a campaign that has been very apparent to anyone watching. Firing mueller in some ways was secondary. Delegitimizing the entire process was really the goal. And giuliani says what he thinks. He is not very controlled. I dont know how significant it is. More republicans dont believe the investigation is legitimate. Thats the goal. Jeff flake says he thinks there is more going on than an attempt to undermine Robert Mueller. You can tell you behind the scenes, there is a lot of alarm. There is concern that the president is laying the ground work to move on bob mueller or rosenstein. If that were to happen, that would cause a constitutional crisis. There is concern behind the scenes. Ive been concerned that we havent spoken up loudly enough and told the president , you simply cant go there. He is obviously probing the edges to see how far congress will go and we have to push back harder than we have. I spent a lot of time on capitol hill. There is a lot of whispers. When you press them in a public forum, he is the only one that really expresses alarm about this. Do we have any sense that republicans would take action if President Trump were to follow Rod Rosenstein or Robert Mueller . Well have to wait and see. Ive heard the same whispers as you have with republicans in the senate. Hes been more of a guard. For example, Mitch Mcconnell was briefed about this whole spygate thing this week and he was asked if he still supports the Mueller Investigation. He said absolutely. It is a legitimate investigation and i support it. Others may not express the same concerns that senator flake is expressing openly. He is retiring so he has more freedom to do that. But they do express those concerns privately and their actions speak louder than words. They are saying, supporting bob muellers investigation thing. Lets let it play out and see what happens and see what the results are. Theres an easy way for republicans to solve. This there is enough momentum to codify this into law, to protect Robert Mueller. Why do you think republicans, particularly the ones in power are resistant to take that step . Theyre scared of donald trump and the voters who support him. We keep forgetting how many republicans, it is still very high, support donald trump and those who support him support him vigorously. So these lawmakers feel comfortable saying, we dont know that spygate is the right term. They push back this small ways. But fear dmiks because they worry about donald trump tweeting against them. At the end of the day, theyre worried about their own political survival. I want to share with you, he said he wasnt going to fire anyone. The president isnt going to fire over poe would be playing into victims, watergate. Theyre people who committed the crimes. Theyre the watergate. What do you think . Using the terms, the new watergate. He is essentially arguing that the problem, the crime, the conspiracy, all rest with the investigators. Rather than the person being investigated. And again, giuliani is simply expressing the same arguments that the president has been tweeting about and saying and i think in the end, frank is right. They are depending on partisanship to work. They have reason for that. The polls are not falling for his support of the will. He has tweeted several times, this is the worst political scandal in modern history. He is always going farther and farther with it. This week alone the president has tweeted about it 17 times. It is the court of public opinion. He is trying to show his supporters that he is being unreasonably investigated. That he is undermining the investigation. To say this is a witch hunt, as he likes to say oh and over again. That hes subject to some sort of exceptional investigation that is outside the law based on a false premise, to begin with and should be ended. But he stops short of ending it, knowing that would be politically catastrophic. So instead, he just raise against it in the court of public opinion. You mentioned the mid terms. I want to dive into that a little bit deeper. Youve written about it. And theres quite a bit of polling on this already. A recent cnn poll found 39 of republicans think the president should sit down for an interview with him of thats down from 54 in march. How much of an impact could an interview have between the president and Robert Mueller have . I think it is looking more and more like this may go on past the mid terms. If mueller cant wrap this up by very Early September at the latest, there will be a lot of pressure to put it off until of a the mid terms so it doesnt look like the Law Enforcement community is putting its hand on the election. I wouldnt be surprised if were still dealing with this investigation and the decision to have an interview in january and february. Did you think that play into his hand . Yes. You dont have the reports and thats scary. President trump likes to have a foil. He tells stories. He comes out of word of television and he understands very well that he can build his own standing by having someone to oppose. Cole, the fbi. We say he is trying to undermine. We roll our eyes at the claims he makes. Theres evidence that it is working. If you look at the polling, more and more voters think that mueller is politically driven. Were following breaking news out of Ellicott City, married. Multiple rescues are happening because of treacherous flooding. The water is raging in the downtown area as you can see of residents are being warned to shelter in place. If they are trapped, to climb to the second floor. Rainfall rates are approaching two to four inches per water. Switch water rescue teams are being deployed to the area under a flash flood watch. A woman trapped inside of a local business shot this video from the outside of the window. She tells cnn, there are about 30 people stranded, including children and he hadderly people. We have an emergency for a Flood Warning and 911 calls are streaming in. Weve been stuck in a pattern. You can see where alberto is. Weve had this meandering around for three weeks. What were seeing is much like what we had two years ago. It is called training. One storm after another. Some areas picking up three inches of rain in a halfhour time. We have another but not could drop an additional two inches on top of the four, five, and six in some areas. Ellicott city, an historical district. What were finding is eerily what happened two years ago. Two fatalities occurred. No reports of that yet but First Responders will go door by door. It has a high heel on one area of the town and all that water just funnels down. The last time this happened we had over 200 automobiles that were thrown down stream. About 2,000 people live in that area but very few people are left there. The roads are being cut off. Another concern is that the trade winds that have been blowing from the north to the west are now going to start blowing the other direction. Theyre going to subside and the winds will go to the north and east which will affect the communities of puna and hilo. So ash and very toxic smoke and gas is going to cause problems for a lot of people here. I want to show you whats happening. This is fissure 22. This is the one cnn has had a live camera on for the last couple weeks. It has built a lot of lava around and it isnt as active as it has been. If you look in this direction, you can see there are thats true of lava forming. And off in the distance, that is lava from fissure 22 pouring into the ocean. When it hits the ocean, the cold salt water, the lava forms what they call laze. Microscopic gas and sulfuric acid. The volcano, kilauea, the crater that is exploding right now has increase in the size from about 12 achers to over 90 acres in size.
