Thank you for joining us. French president , emanuel macron says Lieutenant Colonel died a hee owe. He persuaded a gunman to let him take the place of a female hostage in a supermarket. He was wounded and hours ago, frances interior minister announced he died in the hospital. Police killed the gunman after hay stormed the building after a fourhour stand off. By then, the gunman killed three other people. Melissa bell is following the story. Me indianapol melissa, tell us more about this officer, what he did that has so many people calling him a hero. Reporter it is the tale of extraordinary heroism. It took place in the supermarket behind me. It remains kcore donned off thi morning. Its where the killing spree started with a carjacking, then an attack on the police, then a hostage situation inside. What he did was offer to replace the female hos tonlg being held, to take her place. It isnt simply he saved her life, but he helped bring that stand off to an end by leaving his mobile phone on once he was inside, allowing the special forces gathered, that were waiting to carry out the assault by giving them the possibility of hearing precisely what was going on and carrying out the assault at exactly the right time. He has been hailed as a hero by the french president. Sadly, overnight, he died from the injuries that he sustained during the attack. George . Also, just tell us more about what you are learning with regards to the investigation, itself. Reporter we have a much clearer idea of who he was. We learned last night from the prosecutor in charge that in a series of raids carried out at his home, which we visits last night, a very tense situation, Large Police Presence as the raids carried on. The woman who shared his life, his partner, is now in police custody. The question is at the heart of the investigation, george, whether he had a wider network, carried it out with the help of anyone else or simply a sympathizer of the islamic state. Those are the questions that have yet to be answered for the time being. Authorities are remaining tight lipped about what they know. Thank you so much for the reporting. Well stay in touch with you. More about the story, we are talking with a terrorism expert who joins us from liverpool, england. Thank you so much for talking with us. First of all, talk about the hero of the story, the officer who put his life on the line to save others. This could have ended much worse than it did if it were not for him. What are your thoughts . Sums up im a former Police Officer myself. It shows the dangers they face and the sacrifices they make to keep us all safe. Regardless of which state you are in. I mean, its tragic this happened. But, his actions have made most, well find out in the full investigation, he may have saved lives. Lets talk about what happened. Officials knew of the suspect. They didnt know he was radicalized, there was no indication he was going on attack. This shows how difficult this is, this situation, this ongoing situation, the security standpoint of staying ahead of those who become radicalized. Thats right. Go back to nice, the tragic events there in 2015. Im sorry, we are losing audio. We are going to have to take a break and hopefully we can resume our conversation. Again, we continue to follow that story and report on anymore investigation. Plus, was this person officially linked with isis . Was this part of an organized situation . They are the big questions. Meantime, the trump administration, once again, trying to block transgender people from serving in the u. S. Military. Last years allout ban against transgender persons was blocked in federal court. A new policy is directed as those requiring surgery or medications to be transgender. Here is part of the statement from the white house. Laurens quickthinking teacher hid all 15 students in a tiny bathroom off the classroom saving all their lives and her own. Today, lauren and that teacher are still friends. Do you feel like you are closer to her because of everything . You have a nice friendship . An experience like this really does bring people together. Reporter the march for our lives will bring people together, too. It was organized by the students of Stoneman Douglas high school in parkland, florida. Lauren will stand with them to say enough. I dont want this happening to any other child. It shouldnt have happened. We really do need more safety. Reporter do you feel like you can make a difference, even at age 12 . Yeah. Its amazing what the parkland students are doing. They are so ahead in this generation. Its at that age, its incredible. They are making a big difference. Randi kaye, cnn, newtown, connecticut. Little sandy hook survivors growing up. So many children in this country have been witness to gun violence. The march for our lives organizers say more than 800 protests are planned in cities across the world. In sydney, australia, hundreds of people gathered to show support to u. S. Students. They are asking the u. S. Government to have more gun control laws. Americans in israel rallied in telaviv on friday. They were survivors of the Florida High School shooting. One of the survivors joining us now. 14yearold is in telaviv. Thank you so much. This is probably an emotional day for you. We know you are on spring break there and this is hardly something you do for spring break. What was it like to hold a rally in another country in support of your school, the friends you lost and that support you felt from others as so far away from florida . You know, here in israel, but i dont want to do anything else. In telaviv, i can show my support and see what really needs to happen. Its an amazing experience to be able to do. So, you moved the crowd to tears there, talking about the friend you lost. Can you share with our viewers, some of what you had to say at the rally there . Well, i was in room 1215 and i was one of my best friends so i provided awareness to what that was like to the people who had to watch. Its its been a few weeks since that happened and look at what the kids at your high school, look at what you are doing around the world. What do people say about the gun epidemic in the United States . What are you hearing about that . Well, its gotten out of control. Its been out of control for a while now. Everyone, all my friends, everybody, we dont want anyone else to go through this. Do whatever it takes to allow kids where do you want this movement to go after these international marches we are seeing, the huge marches that take place in washington today, where do you want this to go . I guess i want it to go somewhere. I know it will go somewhere. I think that i think that theres going to be a lot less Mass Shootings and i hope i think that my class all right, eden, thank you so much. We appreciate you time and wish you all the best. Its a very tragic time, but certainly hopeful. Thank you for all you are doing. Isabel la wakeman was 11 at the time of the sandy hook massacre. Carly is a senior at the Florida School where 17 students and teachers were killed in the rampage we are talking about on valentines day. Here they are. Carly, im going to start with you. Talk about your story. You are a triplet. You and your Twin Brothers were there when the shooting started. So, im a senior at Stoneman Douglas. I have two Twin Brothers there, one in the freshman building and i have a, my father is a teacher at Stoneman Douglas. He was protecting students because they were walking toward the building. That is where they go during the fire drill, which did occur during the shooting. They had to run back to the office because they heard gunshots. He sheltered over 30 kids inside the office. I should have asked you guys first, how are you coping . How are you dealing . Its hard for me because i did lose a friend and one of the girls on my Basketball Team did get injured. She suffered from five shots to the right side of her body. But, shes back at school now and recovering really well. Yeah. And you play on the Basketball Team. You are a center and varsity player as we can see from your sweatshirt you have on. Isabella, let me talk to you now. Hi. Hi. You were in sandy hook. Your middle school was a few miles away. How has that influenced your childhood and what you are involved with now . Today, it makes me and my friends scared to go to school. We fear going out anywhere in public. We have to be hyperaware of our surroundings because we know what its like to feel like our lives are in danger. We know what its like to be stuck in a closet for hours, not knowing whats going on outside. We really have to be careful about where we are going and we live with fear because of what happened. So, what will be going through your mind at the march tomorrow . Theres going to be a lot of people. Are you going to be concerned there . Unfortunately, yes. It is a large city and we are a large target, but that will not stop any of us from coming and doing what is right and start making a change because without it, shootings will continue to happen. You started an alliance, tell me about it. So, our Junior Newtown Alliance started five years ago, after the sandy hook massacre. Even then, i started going to d. C. To lobby in congress. Today, im trying to do the same thing, trying to pass the same gun laws because what happened in parkland is almost exactly what happened to us. Even five years ago, our efforts did not work. We are hoping now they will work. I hope something is done. This happened in isabellas Community Five years ago. The shooting was at your high school in february. Way too many shootings happened in between. What is different now . Why are you seeing a bigger push for change . I think it happened at a time where we witness all of these Mass Shootings like las vegas and pulse nightclub shooting. We are sick of it. We are tired of politicians taking money from the nra and not caring about the lives of children and taking money instead. We need to get back on track. We need to save kids lives instead of just running with the nra. Those students will be among 500,000 people at the mall of washington. The rally starts at noon. Well be covering it. There are rallies to support it all over the world. Still ahead here on newsroom, a turn in the facebook scandal. What british investigators may have turned up at Cambridge Analytica. In the united kingdom, authorities are ramping up their investigation into the alleged abuse of facebook data. They searched the office of Cambridge Analytica scandal. They harvested data of tens of thousands of facebook users. They didnt use it in political campaigns including that of u. S. President donald trump. They deny wrong doing and says it is commissioning an independent audit. It claims that will prove they deleted the data after a facebook request back in 2015. For a look at the investigation and what british authorities are looking for, issa suarez joins us. Just that one story we read, i think people can appreciate the magnitude of this investigation. Very much so. Good morning to you, natalie. The investigation you saw, you played footage there, were going in late last night after four days of waiting for that arrest. They are going in trying to find, look at the data and the paperwork to see if Cambridge Analytica had the facebook data they werent supposed to have, according to facebook. They said they deleted it, gotten rid of it. Not what we have heard in the last week from the whistleblower, one of the main people that works for Cambridge Analytica. Not what we heard from alexander nix, the former ceo just last month. If you remember, he spoke to a committee here in parliament and basically said we have never had facebook data, we dont work with facebook data, to which we had someone who said he wants him to come back to the committee and face questions because he says there are inconsistencies in what Cambridge Analytica said. They also want the facebook ceo, Mark Zuckerberg to come to the uk and testify to how that data was passed on to the professor at Cambridge University affond passed on to Cambridge Analytica. Many, many people want answers, critical answers. Why its taken so long to come forward and how they got their hands on the data of facebook users. Theres a lot to be learned here. Its something well be watching closely. It will be interesting if Mark Zuckerberg is part of this investigation. Thank you so much. Laurie asked him about that if he will testify. He said sometimes if you send the right person, didnt say if he would do it, buzz his name is asked to be there for the questions. Going to spain, new tensions in the government. This was the scene. Take a look, in barcelona, on friday, nearly 30 people injured in clashes with police after the Spanish Supreme Court arrested five independence leaders. Blocking transgender people from entering the u. S. Military. Transgender people who require surgery or medication will be barred from serving. The aclu slams that as reckless and contusional. An earlier ban was blocked in federal court. The president was busy on multiple fronts, including imposing tariffs on chinese goods and naming a new National Security adviser. Mr. Trump signed a huge Government Spending bill, but not before complaining about that bill. Here is caitlin with that report for us. Reporter just four hours after he threatened to veto the 1. 3 trillion spending bill to fund the federal government through september, President Trump called the press in for a last minute venting session and issued a stern warning to congress. I say to congress, i will never sign another big like this, im not going to do it again. Nobody read it. Its hours old. Reporter the president expressed his disdain for the budget busting bill calling the process ridiculous. There are a lot of things im unhappy about in this bill. There are a lot of things that we shouldnt have had in this bill, but we were, in a sense, forced if we want to build our military, we were forced to have. Reporter he backed away this morning delivered by tweet, he might veto the bill. I looked very seriously at the veto. I was thinking about doing the veto, but because of the incredible gains we have been able to make for the military, that overrode any of our thinking. Reporter the bill includes huge increases in domestic and military spending that trump lobbied for. Ships, planes, helicopters, tanks and submarines. We have submarines being built unlike any in the world. Reporter it only allocates a small portion of the 25 billion they asked for to build a border wall. Not happy with 1. 6 million dollars, but it does start the wall. We will make that 1. 6 go very, very far. Reporter all this as the president is creating chaos elsewhere in the white house with the decision to replace h. R. Mcmaster with john bolton. This is his third National Security adviser in 14 months. That, after he fired secretary of state Rex Tillerson last week, leaving the cabinet with one moderate voice in james mattis. The latest moves show a sharp shift in the right ahead of the potential meeting with kim jongun, deadline on the Iran Nuclear War and tariffs. China is going to treat us fairly. They dont have free reign anymore. Reporter wait, theres more. The plan to shake up his legal team is facing challenges with two sources familiar with the matter telling cnn newly hired attorney joe digenova. Money from the wall for taxpayers, but not that mexico would pay for it. Mexico said they will not pay for it. Well continue to follow that, of course. Stormy daniels Attorney Says he has proof his client had an affair with donald trump. The porn actress is suing over a nondisclosure that she says is not valid. Donald trump denies it. The tweets caption said, if a picture is worth a thousand words, how many is this worth. It is a warning shot to mr. Trump and his legal team. Another woman is speaking out about her relaxship with mr. Trump. Her 10month relationship started in 2006. Sarah sidner reports for us. Reporter the parallels are unmistakable between the two women. Porn star Stormy Daniels and Karen Mcdougal who say they were silenced about their alleged affairs with donald trump. The similarities are important because they show a pattern of alleged behavior, including intimidation, chaos by trumps allies as he ran for president. They say the relationships happened between 2006 and 2007. Both describe similar Sexual Experiences with donald trump. Did he ever use protection . No. Reporter this happening around the time Melania Trump had her son in march of 2006. Both these women say trump offered them an apartment in new york, which they refused. Mcdougal says she was well into the relationship when they attended a lake tahoe golf tournament. He said there was a bunch of porn stars out there. Reporter one of the porn stars, daniels. I knew he talked to ladies, but i didnt know there was anything else. I didnt know he was intimate. Reporter except for his wife, melania, of course. The only regret i have with the relationship with donald is the fact he was married. Reporter she met the first lady, but kept her distance. She attended the vodka release. Also at the party, Stormy Daniels. Friends say trump invited her. The parallels continued before the 2016 president ial election when they decided they wanted to tell their stories and, somehow, ended up with the same attorney, davidson. He brokered a deal with daniels with trumps personal attorney cohen, to pay 130,000 as part of the confidentiality agreement. According to mcdougals lawsuit, she had no idea davidson was informing cohen about her deal to sell the story to the National Inquirer. Both women say they were later intimidated to keep them from talking. Put out a statement saying that you can talk to the media, you are free. Yeah, i saw that statement, too. According to their attorney, i cant. There will be financial ruin. Reporter a Parent Company of the National Inquirer disputed various claims. Trump denies the affairs took place and knew nothing of the deals. He doesnt remember any emails coming from ami to him in mcdougals case and denies intimidating anyone. Ami denies a coordinated campaign to convince mcdougal that she cant tell the truth. The attorney that represented Stormy Daniels and mcdougal says he would like to comment on what mcdougal said about him in the lawsuit but cant because of attorneyclient privilege. Thank you. To put it in focus, lets bring in a professor of politics at city unit in london. The porn actress, the former playboy model and the president of the United States. Talk to us about what this means politically for mr. Trump given these women are now speaking out . Theres two things there. One is the standing of mr. Trump in regard to morality is that most people dont believe hes particularly dont share their moral compass and dont believe he is honest. He is not going to be seen as a hypocrite and much Political Science research on scandals suggests if you are a hypocrite, you do something in private that you have not done publicly, you are protected. The number of cases is piling up. So, those people are independent or are going to leave him will probably continue to erode slowly. Lets talk about Stormy Daniels attorney who says he has proof that his client had a sexual affair with donald trump. He tweeted an image. We can pull the image up if we have it. The image of this disc. Theres the image you see and the tweet he published. Here is what he had to say about it, lets listen. The tweet is a warning shot. I want to be really clear about this. It is a warning shot. Its a warning shot to Michael Cohen and anyone else associated with President Trump that they better be very, very careful after sunday night, relating to what they say about my client and what spin or lies they attempt to tell the american people. The president has avoided questions about these alleged affairs except by surrogates who held the line denying they happened. With so much coming to light now, can he continue to avoid all of this . Im afraid from the beginning, in fact his reputation for many years, i havent followed his career too long but scandals follow mr. Trump from being a businessman and various things he is involved in. His affairs go back many decades. He seems to be teflonlike in the way he can brush these things off. My suspicion is this is not going to do damage to his core base. They know a large part of this is true. I dont think they really care. I think what they care about is the kind of things he appealed to them during the election campaign. That was a deep sense of crisis in regard to the political establishment which had, in their view, what real americans wanted. They wanted to have a better life. They wanted to be able to achieve something approaching the American Dream and they will not be able to do so. I think they are willing to forgive President Trump many, many things. I suspect the core base, the 80 who voted for him november, 2016, i dont think they are going to be shifted much. The christiane van je evangelic behind President Trump, still. You mentioned the base. He focused on military during the campaign. We see him talking about the military in the signing of this spending bill, though he signed it with protest, essentially saying he had to sign it to support the military, but didnt get all the things, like money for the border wall that he wanted. What are your take aways from what we saw with this particular bill . Hes got a massive increase in military spending. He was boasting about the submarines and missiles. Itis part of what that budget was about. You can forget about republicans and deficits. That idea with the tax bill in december and the fact is, now, with the appointment of john bolton and mike pompeo as the nominee to the state department, and the removal of mcmaster and tillerson, it seems to be President Trump is getting together a war cabinet. The optics are, although you may be negotiating, possibly, with north korea and you have been rejecting the iran deal, it looks like the military confrontation is likely to increase. As we know, President Trump is a transaction list. He had a big role and likes to see the optics working for the base and the partys of negotiations. Hes signaling to them, hes going to have large amounts of fire power behind him. This budget has given it to him. We can look forward to confrontational stance in regards to the iran movement and that will probably be the key to the kind of things they are going to talk about in may, possibly with the north korean president. We will have to wait and see. Live in london, thank you. Thank you very much. Coming up here, well have the latest on the iran hacking story. What the United States is saying about the alleged hackers behind a massive, local conspiracy. Thats what the United States calls it.
