Trump has refused to release his tax returns, leading to a lot of speculation as to why. Was it just because of a routine audit as he was saying or was he hiding something. On saturday, there was a breakthrough, i fresh glimpse into Donald Trumps finances. The New York Times obtained trumps state tax records from 1995 when they the main take away from the documents is that 1995 trump declared a loss of 916 million. That loss could legally allowed him to avoid paying federal income taxes. We want to make it clear that cnn cannot independently confirm the authenticity of the documents butment New York Times is responding saying mr. Trump is a highly skilled businessman. He has a responsibility to his business and his family to pay no more tax than legally required. The statement went on to say that trump had paid hundreds of millions in all manner of taxes and charitable contributions. Theyre seething calling it a bombshell. The camp says it proves the newspaper is an extension of Hillary Clintons campaign. Lets talk more about this with eugene scott who is joining us live now from new york. Eugene, if you are a diehard donald trump supporter and looking at the documents that shows a loss of 916 million, what are you telling us . How are you justifying this . I think some of trumps supporters are justifying this by believing that this proves a statement he made at mondays debate. It means that he was smart if he was able to use the system to pay the amount of taxes that you deems appropriate. I think a lot of people in trumps base of support are suspicious of the federal government, including the irs and have problems with the tax code as is. They do not buy into clintons desire to have people at the upper ends of the income spectrum in the u. S. Pay more taxes. I think most of his supporters, at least in that core base would be more understanding of this than people outside of that group. About five weeks ago, for Hillary Clinton what, can she do to actually make the most of this regulation . She hinted at that monday at the debate when she communicated that when people do not pay their share of taxes, thats money lost to schools and public parks and to transportation and so instead of making this a personal issue, what she is going to have do is communicate how americans lose when affluent people do not pay their fair share of taxes. When you think about 1 billion in losses, given that trumps arguments the premise of his president ial campaign is hey, listen, im a great businessman, i can run the economy, dont Trump Supporters look at that and sort of scratch their heads a little bit . I would think so. Its very interesting. Yesterday on cnn newsroom we had a segment about how none of the top ceos in the Fortune Companies have endorsed trump to affirm his business acumen. Its what hes running on most, his ability to successfully run a business. Do you think is there any chance that in the next five weeks, these documents could force trumps hand and make him reveal or release his tax returns himself . I would be very surprised if donald trump releases the tax returns as requested within the next five weeks. I think thats a part of his platform that hes stuck to, that he has been criticized on very often. But i think for him its bigger than that at this point. Theres the principle of saying i will not do this and i dont have to do this so i wont do this. To be fair, donald trump hasnt actually come out and denied what was in this report, right . He has not. But i think its very important as you communicated, cnn has not been able to verify that ourselves and its one piece thats more than 20 years old and so we can only make assumptions and guesses about it based off of what weve seen. Eugene scott, thank you so much. Appreciate you being with us. Trump is trying to win over Bernie Sanders young supporters and using a speech by Hillary Clinton to do it. We got ahold of a clip of clinton making a speech in february talking about Bernie Sanders supporters. Some are new to politics completely, children of the great recession. Theyre living in their parents basements. They feel they got their education and the Jobs Available to them are not at all what they envisioned for themselves. They dont see much of a future. I think we all should be understanding of that and we should try to do the best we can not to be a wet blanket on idealism. W want people to be idealistic set goals. We want to present them as bigger goals. You heard Hillary Clinton beginning of that clip referencing young voters, quoteunquote, living in their parents basements. Trump said that clinton was ridiculing Bernie Sanders supporters. Listen to what he had to say. Things Bernie Sanders supporters are hopeless and ignorant basement dwellers. Then of course she thinks people who vote for and follow us are deplorable and ir redeemable. I dont think so. The Clinton Campaign responded to the comments issuing a statement saying, the reason what was said in the remarks, she wants young people to be idealistic and have big goals. Shes fighting for exactly what the Millenial Generation wants. A fairer, equal just world. I want to continue to the battle for aleppo. The battle is intensifying and russia is issuing a serious warning to the United States. The Foreign Ministry says there will be terrible consequences if they it could create a power vacuum filled by terrorists. Tensions between the u. S. And russia have worsened since the breakdown of a ceasefire last month. Theyre reaching a boiling point on the battlefield is 10,000 syrialed troops to take on aleppo a Surgical Hospital was bombed for the second time in a week. Activists say at least one person was killed and 15 others hurt. Rebels and rescue workers blame Syrian Forces backed by russia. Cnn National Reporter joins us live from istanbul. Nick, you just heard there, russia basically telling the u. S. There will be consequences if they bomb Syrian Regime forces. Based on all of that, the pointing fingers, the tension, is there any hope for peace . There doesnt appear to be. Certainly, when you listen to the language coming from the Deputy Foreign minister there has said dont think of a decapitation against the regime. That would have repercussions not just in syria, but throughout the region clearly an escalation of tensions along the nato, russia border with the United States. And russia raising those tensions further if the United States was to further engage. Not for the u. S. Not to interfere such as perhaps hits of runways or troops, syrian troops that are amassing outside of aleppo. The Russian Point here, all along, has been that the United States should separate the al qaeda affiliate thats rebranded itself now, separate it from the mad rah rebels. Its escalating to the point of saying that, therefore, the United States is backing the terrorists and if the United States intervenes, then you collapse what fragile state exists inside syria and as russia says, terrorists would take over. The threat from the rhetoric arising here but what is happening in aleppo, russia backing syria continues to push that offensive on the ground. That appears to have been their intention all along, not to get into syrias political peace negotiations until theyve taken more territory, namely, the very large city of aleppo. The north of the country, according to the world health organization, in the past week alone, thats the sequence of the ceasefire agreement, 338 people have been killed in aleppo, more than 100 of them children. Were hearing from activists overnight that again the city has been targeted by what they believe a Syrian Government air strikes, hospitals. The mosques, places where people to gather, they continue to be targets. The Recovery Room at the hospital was hit again on saturday. A doctor, medical assistant working in that hospital talked about strikes there just in the last few days. This is what he said. Translator the i was in the intensive care unit. I heard a loud sound. I ran to the emergency section. There had already been injured people from a previously shelling on a bakery. There was a man lying on the floor. A shrapnel went into his chest and through his heart. He was dead. One of the nurses was really scared. He was scared the hospital would be shelled again. I took him to the basement. He was still very scared. What medics in the city are saying now, the surgical units operating inside rebelheld areaa an area that contains according to International Organizations contains a quarter of a Million People, there are only 30 doctors and two now two operating. The impression that is being created by this russian backed syrian bombardment that the pass kp capacity for the city to the further impression it creates. Therefore, essentially, it appears as if the rebelheld areas are being targeted into submission. This time rather than go for a political solution. Thats the impression and thats certainly what activists in the rebelheld areas are saying at the moment, zain. Despite the fighting, the real sort of heartbreaking tragic story has to be the humanitarian crisis in all of this. Nic robertson, thank you so much, appreciate it. After a quick break, a major hurricane is threating the caribbean. Well have more on the countrys campaign against that plan. Haiti and jamaica are bracing right now for Hurricane Matthew. Take a look at this video. Here you see people in jamaica stocking up on supplies, long lines, people in stores grabbing food and lots and lots of water. S you see in that ladys cart right there. They have just one day left until the storm makes landfall. Its jamaicas first major hurricane in nearly three decades. Thats why the Prime Minister wants everyone to take the storm seriously. Do resist to what were trying to do to get our citizens to comply in their own interest which would certainly save resources having to be deployed in a time of emergency. When it will be difficult to respond. Lets get the latest on the storms track. Meteorologist derek van dam joins me live now. Lets talk about the storms path. Its heading towards jamaica but also haiti has concern as well. About 24 hours ago, all of our computer models were showing a direct landfall on jamaica a. Now we have new information and we do expect Hurricane Matthew to have a slightly eastward trajectory, meaning that haiti would this future should see brunt of this storm pulling away a major, major effects from jamaica. Let me try and explain the difference here between what it was 24 hours ago compared to what it is now. What youre looking at on the screen is the cone of uncertainty and this is the National Hurricane centers path that gives a broad scope of where this storm will likely go. You can see how its splitting the difference between western haiti and eastern jamaica, as well as eastern cuba. That difference is only about 330 miles or roughly 500 kilometers. Were not talking about much water separating those two bodies of land. Miles and kilometers count with this forecast. It is so incredibly crucial considering that where the strongest of impacts will be felt, which typically is in the Northeast Quadrant of a storm. We have now seen this storm take its more northerly direction and that is something thats interesting to note because 24 hours ago, it had a westerly component to its movement. Now its turning into northerly and it impacts the exact forecast path. Current sustained winds at 150 miles per hour, gusts 185 miles per hour. Weve timed this out for you. If youre watching in haiti or sdwra make a you have 24 hours before it makes landfall. You need to wrap up immediately on saving your life and property. This storm is headed your way. You can see jamaica outside the strongest wind field by Tuesday Morning. Thats when we anticipate early Tuesday Morning landfall into western haiti. From there, it starts to cross just east of cuba but cuba will also feel the effects of this system. Heres the latest watches and warnings. Hurricane watch for cuba. Hurricane warnings for western haiti. Hurricane warning for jamaica as it stands right now. Thats the latest 2 00 a. M. Update from the National Hurricane center. Other things to take note of, all the computers have the storm staying away from florida in the United States. Thats good news. That does not belittle the chances of some of the outer rain bands impacting, lets say, the florida keys. They will also feel Tropical Storm force winds and it is potential that we have Tropical Storm watches for the florida keys here by tonight. But they will not feel the full brunt of the storm like haiti will feel here in the next 24 hours. Lot of people bracing themselves. Van dam, thank you so much. Appreciate that. Huang arians are heading to the polls to vote in a controversial referendum. Have to decide whether to accept or reject the European Unions migrant process. They want to reduce the number of migrants and wants the country to have more autonomy over its borders. Hungary ended up building a fence on its border with syria to keep refugees and the silence seekers out of the country. That said, the outcome to the referendum is not legally binding and does nothing to reverse existing eu legislation. Why is orban bothering to have a referendum at all . This is an international pr. This is international marketing. Hes selling himself as the idea log of a radically different migration policy to how he would hes saying the solution to a refugee crisis, the migration issues in europe is let no one come. Lets discuss this with our report every, from our affiliates. Not sure if you heard whatter dwrin mclaughlin said but she brought up a point. What is the point of referendum if theyre still bound by eu rules . Hi, zain. The hungarian governments goal is to get the majority of no vote and travel to brussels and in brussels try to avoid and try to force the eu not to make hungary absorb or take back migrants that are actually past hungary and then went to germany the main goal is, not to take back, not to absorb those people who are entitled to send back to hungary. Were talking about 1300 migrants and refugees. Each if hungary goes to the eu with those demands, is the eu likely to say yes to that . What do you think . I dont think so. Although most of the countries have basically on the same level of thinking about migration quotas in the e. U. Slovakia, poland, the Czech Republic and hungary doesnt want the e. U. To force these countries to take these refugees and migrants back. They sort of made a plan of migration quotas that is most likely voluntary and not a must by them. They are stating that those countries who are wealthier than the others and those countries who doesnt have the desire, the employment so they would need to take the majority or, lets say, all of them all of those refugees and migrants that were about to send to these countries.
