You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump Supporters into what i call the basket of deplorables. Right . The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, islamophobic, you name it. But that other basket of people are people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down. Nobody cares about them. It would be interesting to hear what she said about that. Do you think that she should have said that, joe, basket of deplorables, racists, sexists i think in the last segment someone should she shouldnt have said half or i dont know if she should have said onethird or you could have put ten people. There have been some deplorable people that even donald trump has had to denounce. We had to force him to denounce david duke and others. But lets understand one thing, she probably obviously was not speaking literally, it was figuratively. And, secondly, this is what you do and say at fundraisers. You are with its almost like being a cheerleader. Its like being with your crowd. And you think this is something, you wait until you get to a republican fundraiser. Youll have the same thing said about liberals, about progressives. This is what people do at fundraisers. But, chris, i have to ask you, though, you remember when donald trump says, you know, said that he was he could stand in the middle of fifth avenue and he got a lot of flak for that. Do you think its similar . Actually, what this reminds me of, this reminds me of mitt romneys 47 comment caught at a fundraiser and it was devastating. I didnt hear this until i was on the way in to do your show tonight, don. I have to tell you, the trump people would be smart to run this in an ad often. I dont know that ive ever heard a candidate define voters with such pejoratives. You can call him a racist, sexist, xenophobic but to call his supporters, half of them names . That could be terminal for her. That could be a big error tonight. Ive heard donald trump and i play this on my show almost every day. I heard donald trump and i can give you the clip if you want, ill be glad to send it to you, saying i love stupid people. And he was talking about his supporters. He said i love the uneducated. Well, uneducated, stupid. I love the uneducated people. Let me tell you, who calls their supporters uneducated . Who does that . We dont want uneducated people making uneducated decisions like voting for donald trump. So be very careful when you bring that up because that clip is out there and if Hillary Clintons people are smart, theyll play that every day during the campaign. What he did not say is i love Hillary Clintons stupid people, i love the stupid people that support Hillary Clinton. Far different than saying the people that support my opponent are racist and xenophobic and blah, blah, blah. You dont call your own supporters uneducated. John, youre sitting there and youre awfully quiet. Is this like when president obama talked about bitter people in Pennsylvania Clinging to their guns and religion . Ing that hurt him. Do you think its going to hurt her . Look, don, the Clinton Campaign right now is in free fall, dead panic in brooklyn. They dont know what to do. Theyre delusional. They have to get up every day. They dont have any idea what emails are going to get out there. What wikileaks is going to do. Right now, trump is surging all over the country. I was the first one in america to predict he was going to be the republican nominee and im predicting hes going to win on november 8th. Everybodys been the first by the way. Clinton tonight, that was a desperate attempt to frame trumps backers, calling them stupid or whatever shes trying to do. At the end of the day they have no plan her entire campaign right now is based on Bashing Trump and then continuing to bash trump. They have no plan. Theyre in a freefall. Trump is going to win, don. I mean, i dont know what these people are going to do because theyre not theyre not seeing reality right now. I want to play this in. To joe madisons point, you said if you go to a conservative or a republican rally, youll see similar things. Because she is being so protected, she could walk into this arena right now and shoot somebody with 20,000 people watching right smack in the middle of the heart and she wouldnt be prosecuted, okay . Thats whats happened. That is whats happened to our country. I never thought id see the day when this is happening to our country. So, chris, is that appropriate . No. Would i tell him to say it . No. Look, i long gave up The Business Of Spinning for donald trump. I dont do it. But i will say this. An overwhelming majority of the country believe mrs. Clinton should have been punished by the fbi. A majority of people polled Say Something should have gone down with the fbi and mrs. Clintons emails. It didnt. Most of this country feels she getting away with something criminal. I heard what you said, she hasnt been charged with anything criminal, fine. But most people believe shes done something criminal and that sentiment exists. I dont disagree with you but to come on and definitively say that Hillary Clinton has committed a crime is just factually inaccurate and i was trying to get that across to the guest who is an attorney. I was shocked that he doesnt understand that. I think most people get it. Joe, do you think that was appropriate to say . I mean, you got a good chuckle out of that. I got a good chuckle out of it because as i said, youre going to hear it on both sides. Look, again, ive played on my show donald trump saying i could stand in the middle of fifth street fifth avenue. Fifth avenue, excuse me and shoot somebody and let me play that. Go ahead, please. They say i have the most loyal people. Did you ever see that . Where i could stand in the middle of fifth avenue and shoot somebody and i wouldnt lose any voters, okay . Its like incredible. Go ahead, joe. I mean, whoever would have heard in all my life ive never heard any president ial candidate, republican or democrat, Say Something like that. I mean, so you can see how let me say this quickly and i think we all can agree with this. I will be so glad when we Start Talking about issues that impact my child, my grandchild, my paycheck, you know, education. This back and forth attack, whats going on right now, i dont know if this is predebate nonsense, but at some point in time, we have got to get into the substance of Public Policy. And thats what im waiting for because what i think were all tired of is this attack counterattack. Let talk about substantive Public Policy issues, education, the economy and who will lead the country in the next four years. Thats what i think the American People really want. So chris, i want to talk about something that is becoming increasingly hard to ignore, Donald Trumps refusal to reese his tax returns. Trumps running mate, mike pence, released ten years of tax returns tonight. Im going to keep on asking till the election. Why wont donald trump release his taxes . What is the justification . I dont know. I dont know. And i dont really spin for donald trump. If were going to talk about secrecy and what we cant see, theres a laundry list of it over there on mrs. Clintons side, too. Listen, we will get to that but can we stick to the point instead of deferring to the other side. Everybody does that. Democrats do it, the republicans do it. Why wont he release his tax returns . I dont know. That is something that Hillary Clinton has done. I dont know. But, frankly, his taxes are the least of my concerns. Were talking about were talking about a history shrouded in secrecy around mrs. Clinton that the public it doesnt matter to you how much taxes hes paid, how much Charitable Giving hes done, especially since the cornerstone of his campaign, one of them besides immigration and building the wall has been what a great businessman he is, how he will rescue the economy and save the American People and get jobs because he can create them and because hes such a great businessman . That doesnt make you curious about how his companies operate, how much money he makes, how much taxes hes paid, how much Charitable Giving hes done . Youre not curious about that . You want me to evaluate his professional resume. Again, im happy to do it. I suppose it would be nice to see, sure. These two people trying to evaluate their professional resumes, it would be exhaustive and we can make the case for both of them quite frankly, we can make the case that both of them are shrouded in secrecy and unanswered questions. I cant focus on him when her resume of failure is so vast. I mean, its very difficult for me to pile on him when the secrecy. Joe, ill let you get in. I think it would be fair if we were discussing their resumes but were talking about releasing their tax returns. One candidate has done it on the president ial side. Another one has not. Both Vice President ial candidates have done it. Donald trump is the only one who hasnt. But go ahead, joe. Failures. This is a man that has had how many bankruptcies. But heres the point. I had a friend today say to me that its more than now a double standard. Its quadruple standard. This is the same candidate, donald trump, who asked for the president s College Transcripts, asked a 50yearold man for College Transcripts. Then he wanted to see a Birth Certificate. He wanted to see legitimacy. What tax returns do, it tells you a lot who you attributed to. You know what really bothers me is people who call up and say or people who sit out there and say, well, you know, i wouldnt understand them, even if he gave out his tax returns. Let me tell you, we probably all work on Talk Radio Stations and networks. We can find tax experts who can explain it. There are people right here on cnn who can come on and explain what hes done. The reason he doesnt do it is because he is hiding something. Thats exactly the argument that would have been used against president obama and anybody else and thats why the governor of indiana released his taxes. Something is strange when your running mate releases taxes and the man at the top of the ticket doesnt . John hasnt gotten in. John. Heres what were told about mrs. Clintons Charitable Foundation and the giving to that foundation. Were told those things dont matter, there was no quid pro quo. Millions and millions to the Clinton Foundation, no quid pro quo, nothing to see here. Thats what were told. If were just going to apply this consistency, we can do this all day on both of them. Did they release the record, though . Yes, they did. And they got an a rating. Tell the whole story. Tell the whole story. They got an a rating. I will tell the whole story. I think its fair to evaluate all of them if you have the receipts, as they say. If youre going to evaluate the clintons and they have released all the information, i think its fair to evaluate it. You cant evaluate any of what trump says about his taxes because he hasnt released them. Go ahead, john. First of all, the clintons didnt release anything. It got released by judges or by leaks. Its not like they were forthcoming and released anything. But let me get to your question, which is Donald Trumps tax returns. He absolutely should not he absolutely should not release his returns under any circumstances, audit or not. Let me tell you why. Releasing tax returns is simply a creation of the media that decided at some time people should release their taxes. If you want to know what donald trump has done, go to manhattan, look up, see the skyline, thats what hes done. Its all there. Now, what the media wants to do thats so simplistic. Is have them release his taxes so for the next six weeks we can scrutinize every donation and every line item and every deduction. Nothing. Whats wrong with that . Nothing. Whats wrong with that . John, can you answer my questions . We need to talk about the issues. Whats wrong with scrutinizing the tax returns . It a waste, don, of everybodys time with what is going on right now. We just had a segment let me ask you this. Youve been talking about you and chris have been talking about the Clinton Foundation. Right . So you want to scrutinize everything with the Clinton Foundation, which i think is fair. If youre running for president , everything is fair game. So why the double standard with your candidate . You dont want to scrutinize everything from Donald Trumps foundation. Ive been to kill galley, rwanda to a very Successful Program to a hospital that the Clinton Foundation runs and theyve done very good work. I can say that about that particular part of it. But i dont know what their books and records. Whats wrong with knowing about donald trump . Nothing. Heres why. There was Hillary Clinton had a Press Conference the first one shes had in 276 days the other day. She did not get asked one question about the emails, the foundation, anything. The line of questioning went something they spent 20 minutes the night before asking her about that on National Television and she answered matt lauer. And she spent 18 hours in front of Congress Answering these questions. She was in a press gaggle, they didnt ask her a simple single question. If trump jesus doesnt have anything to do with this at all. Jesus is not running for president. Let me tell you, if he relations his tax returns. I wish he were, frankly. The liberal left wing media is going to spend the next six weeks going over every single thing, interpreting it. Youre right and i wish you guys would go back four years, go back eight years and look ought all the things you asked obama to release. Joining me now teddy turner, Donald Trumps Silent Majority pac and the son of cnn founder ted turner. Teddy, how are you doing . You are a donald trump supporter. You are running the Silent Majority pac. Why did you choose that name . What does it mean to the Trump Campaign . Well, one, we do a lot of interesting things with the Silent Majority pac but to get to the original part of the question is, you know, people are afraid to put a trump sign in their yard. People are afraid to wear a trump shirt. They think somebody is going to call them a racist, call them a bigot. All the stuff that the left has trumped up about trump and it is really not fair. People cant speak their mind unless theyre liberal in this country. But in all fairness, teddy, there are people on the right as well who say those things about donald trump. Its not just people on the left. You think its fair to say that . Well, i think you know, when i ran for congress and kind of learned the ropes down here a couple years ago, the hard core republicans dont like trump and the reason they dont like trump is that hes going to ruin their meal ticket. Im not happy with the hard core republicans. Most of america is not happy with the hard core republicans. I think trump is wonderful because hes not part of the same old same old. Hes not part of the political dynasty built by the rightwing republicans and certainly lived in by the clintons. I this i thats fair to say because you just confirmed, there are republicans who will say the same things about donald trump. Listen, before this election, the term the Silent Majority made most people think of richard nixon, his speech where he appealed to americans who were freaked out by changing values at the time, 1969. Do you think thats a throw back here to 2016 . I dont really think its a throwback to richard nixon. I do think its a throwback that i came from ten years in the Education Business or almost ten years and i couldnt say what i wanted to say in the education field. The Silent Majority, the Squeaky Wheel always gets the grease. It happens. If we look at charleston politics, the Loudest Group gets their way. Not the right group or left group or the best group but the unsilent minority. They get their way. But its time to take the country back and theres only one way to do it. Weve got to get conservative values in the fiscal area more than Anything Else because a broke country is not going to be able to do anything at all to help anybody and were getting there quickly. Were with the Silent Majority. Were focusing on five states on the ground, on the air. Its a great opportunity to spread the word but the most important thing is when this election is over, the Silent Majority pac is not going away, the silent Majority Group is not going away. Were here for the long run. This is one election. Its extremely important. Youre going to hear from us a lot more in the future. I have to ask you this then. I think i was remiss because it should have been my followup question. Do you believe because ive heard it again, not just from liberals but from the hardcore conservatives in your terms, do you believe donald trump is a conservative . You know, depends. A lot of people dont think im a conservative. They said jane fonda was your stepmother so you cant be a conservative. You dont believe in this, you dont believe in that, youre not a conservative. He is the most conservative person in this race by far. Good definitive answer. Thank you for answering that. There is a theory that there are a number of people who are out there who havent been a part of the political process in the past, but theyre going to be motivated to turn out in really large numbers in really large numbers. As you said, people are afraid to show their support for donald trump. Do you think theyre going to show up and cast votes and you think its going to put donald trump over the top . When barack obama first started running for office, everybody said he was unelectable. It wasnt going to happen. But you saw the turnout. You saw that he was a star. You know whos doing that right now . Cnn has to fabricate the 45 people at hillary thing to make it look like something big. Im not picking on cnn. Media in general, for trump theyre standing in line for hours. This things long from over. Trump has an extremely good shot at pulling in that Silent Majority that are tired of the political correctness, theyre tired of the silliness going on, tired of the spending, tired the lying and the corruption. They want new people in those seats, too. Theyve got to turn over congress. Weve got put in term limits. Weve got real problems all across this country. We have a shot to change things and if we dont do it, im afraid its all over. You should know. Your dad started cnn. Youve been around cnn. You know we dont fabricate anything like that. That is a Talking Point from the right or from your side. Come on. I did spend a lot of time working for cnn behind the camera and editing. And its a different time at cnn. Fabricating is one thing. We all look at a story a different way. How you tell the story, you can make a crowd look big, you can make a crowd look small. You realize a lot of the times, though, and maybe the viewer doesnt realize this is that thats a pool camera and sometimes that pool Camera Is Run by fox absometimes its run by another conservative group. It not necessarily cnn is in control of that camera when you see people at a rally. Im just saying. Thats the truth. So lets talk about your pac now. Okay. Go ahead. You want to talk about that . Yeah. No, i just, we all see things different ways. Its just how it works. But lets talk about the pac. So your pac is focusing on where and how are you spending your money . Five target markets. You know, you cant cover the whole country, you cant get everything done. Theres huge pacs that we see that theyre painting with broad strokes. But if you go to florida, if you go to north carolina, you go to virginia, you go to ohio, you go to pennsylvania, those are five states that are crucial to winning. So what weve got to do is because the hard core republican side and were not talking about hard core conservatives, im talking about the party operatives, theyre not helping trump. So many people have come out against trump. So weve got to back fill in those areas. Weve got to get houses with people sitting at dinner talking about this stuff. We need to to get social media going and tv ads going. Were trying to do this as grass roots as possible, what the republican should be doing. But they dont because they dont want trump. We usually try to score cheap political point on each other, we go back and forth and its a good little scrimmage. This is really, really important. This is a deep wound for a lot of africanamericans who felt that he was being delegitimated as an africanamerican president. You can say others have been questioned, as well. But it struck a deep, deep chord and it caused a lot of pain because people felt that so often, africanamericans in offices and in positions of authority are undermined. Its a very easy opportunity for him to step forward because nobody believes that crap anymore for him to step forward and it would heal some wounds. I dont know if it gets any votes but it would show some character. Last night trump supporter Rudy Giuliani surprised many by insisting several times that trump no longer believes that obama was born outside of the u. S. Lets listen to this. I want to know whether you believe that your candidate for president believes he would succeed a legitimate president or not . Does he believe he would succeed a legitimate president. Donald trump believes now that he was born in the United States. But that issue was raised originally when is he going to say that this president is legitimate . This is a fundamental question, mr. Mayor. Is the president of the United States legitimate or not . He do you believe it . If you believe it, why doesnt your Candidate State It . I believe it, he believes it, we all believe it. Trump has recently said he doesnt talk about it anymore, he hasnt actually said it was incorrect. It was a huge issue that donald trump promoted for years and years. Does he need to say so himself. No, he doesnt. Lets look at the history. This whole issue came out of the 2008 Hillary Clinton. Mark penn, the chief strategist wrote a Memo Questioning the roots of barack obama. Her staffers were pushing those pictures of barack. Boris, that is factually incorrect. It is not. It came from a supporter of Hillary Clinton. So go on. Two staffers in iowa. Fine, go ahead. Who worked for the campaign. Go ahead. Hillary clinton raised the issue. She could not get an answer. Donald trump got an means. Hillary clinton raised the issue or someone on her staff . Hillary clintons campaign, which shes the boss off, Hillary Clintons campaign, 2008, the losing campaign which was rejected by the American People raised the issue. She did not get an answer. Donald trump did get an answer that barack obama was in fact born in the United States of america, that issue is put to bed and now we should move on as a country. They never said he wasnt born in the United States. Do you think that he should you dont think he should talk about it at all . He should talk about the issues, the economy, National Economy that actually face this country. Go ahead, van. Boris, i dont think that youre being 100 honest about what donald trump did. Even after he produced even after president obama produced that Birth Certificate, he still questioned it, he played around with it, he acted like he wasnt sure. So he has not been as clear. Also, just because Hillary Clinton did something or a staffer did something or a staffers supporters intern did something or the poodle did something, that does not make it right for you to do it. Im giving the background here. I dont think it makes sense. Two wrongs dont make a right. Can i give you the background on this started not with somebody in iowa. It starteded with the late andrew breitbart. It did not. Yes, it did. He told me that very thing when he and i had a discussion. Now donald trump has known for a long time now, as most everybody else knows that barack obama was born in the United States, was an american, he made the constitutional level to become president and yet trump refused to say anything about it despite the pain. And its like Anything Else. This guy never apologizes for a thing. I dont know what conversations you had with andrew breitbart. The facts show it was started by at the very least a Hillary Clinton supporter who was sending emails around. I think she probably picked it up from andrew. But there is no evidence that Hillary Clinton has anything to do with it. There was a memo. There was a memo from mark penn, the chief strategist of that campaign internally talking about the fact that they should hit on the fact that barack obama doesnt have american let bob make his point. Once you had the Birth Certificate, it was very clear. Everybody else in the country except donald trump accepted it and now all these years later, youve got eight years later. Don, at the end of the day, i view this as a distraction to the real issue thats going on with the lives of the American People, especially the africanAmerican People. My community. Now, i do believe that there are some to vans point that might be hurt or offended by what the birther movement, if you will, that i believe was started by the Clinton Campaign and that mr. Donald trump help produce the Birth Certificate the president did produce for the American People. After that was done, mr. Trump did not continue to raise that issue. It has only now resurfaced because mr. Trump, i believe, is having serious continued engagement and is doing well with the black community in terms of polling and his engagement and i believe the Clinton Campaign is worried about his deliberate efforts to try to earn the vote. Paris, he raised it in iowa during the iowa caucuses. What are you talking about . No, he didnt. Bob, you have no proof yes, he did. Heres the bottom line, for eight years you guys have known and you guys refused to tell the truth. You can talk over me all you want no, thats something that you guys are mitt romney was at 6, mccain was at 2 and were at 8 and growing. Youre out of your mind. During the primary campaign, he told Anderson Cooper that he was not sure. He didnt know if the president was born in the usa. He didnt raise the issue. And he has said afterwards that he didnt believe the Birth Certificate was accurate. The American People have moved on. You know why . Because they elected him once and they elected him twice and now were about an election between donald trump and Hillary Clinton. We need to to focus this conversation and focus the rest of the time that we have up till november on those two candidates. Paris is 100 right on that. Let me say certainly. Go ahead. Paris, heres why look, you are correct when you say these kinds of issues can just be distractions and that there are more pressing issues. The reason why the apology, though, is important is its a character issue. Can you acknowledge a mistake . Can you repair a bridge with a key american constituency . His failure or inability to do those things do rise to the level, i think of serious inquiry. So in a crazy world, Hillary Clinton becomes president and half of the people who were supporting donald trump she calls what did she say, a basket of deplorables . Do you think she owes them an apology . She absolutely does. Paris, yes, she absolutely does. I think that was a mistake. I believe she was trying to signal that she doesnt believe that ought Trump Supporters are bad but the way she did it oh, come on. Donald trump has always said as a successful businessman, he has supported politicians on both sides of the aisle. Listen, do i have to say this. You want somebody that has relationships with people and is comfortable having relationships with people on both sides of the aisle that will negotiate and get things done for the American People once and for all. I dont think these photos are anything but what they are showing that donald trump has relationships with people. Releasing it is supposed to make one look bad or the other. They both look bad. Theres a deep Deep Discontent in the country. Black folks with black lives matter, the sanders supports, the trump people, you can going the Native Americans fighting back now in the dakotas. Theres a Deep Discontent. A lot of whats going on i think a lot of peoples poin of view are the politics of distract and divide. And both parties now are deeply into that as opposed to trying to figure out what were going to do to get jobs for people. These kind of an pictures remind folk guess what, there is an elite. All those people will be fine. You and your family may not. Those pictures make both look terrible. The one nuance is that donald trump has always been honest who he is. Hes been honest about his success. Forthcoming. Where the clintons have made themselves. Boris. Theyre obviously not. They made 450 million off nothing that theyve made. Van.
