Beating trump. For the democrats, the night belonged to Bernie Sanders. The senator continued to make slow headway. He won wisconsin with 56 of the vote. Hillary clinton got 43 . Bernie sanders and ted cruz both thanked their supporters for their wins in wisconsin. Cruz, who has been trailing the republican frontrunner donald trump since the race began said wisconsin is now a turning point in his campaign. As a result of tonight, as a result of the people of wisconsin defying the media, defying the pundits, im more and more convinced that our campaign is going to earn the 1237 delegates needed to win the republican nomination. Either before cleveland or at the convention in cleveland, together we will win a majority of the delegates, and together we will beat Hillary Clinton in november. Bernie sanders was already looking ahead to the next contest when he found out hed won in wisconsin. He gave his victory speech in wyoming where voters will caucus this saturday. Momentum is starting this campaign 11 months ago and the media determining that we were a fringe candidacy. Momentum is starting the campaign 60 to 70 points behind secretary clinton. Momentum is that within the last couple of weeks, there have been National Polls which have had us one point up or one point down. Momentum is when you look at National Polls or you look at statewide polls, we are defeating donald trump by very significant numbers. So the evening was full of talk of momentum and pivots. Yeah. And enthusiasm and raising money and whos got the mojo and its a whole new race. Heres the thing, sanders and cruz still have an uphill battle to catch the frontrunners. Right now clinton leads sanders by 700 delgs on the democratic side. On the republican side, trump has 743, cruz, 510. For a closer look at the wisconsin primary, were joined by john thomas and dave jacobsen. Lets look at this statement. We didnt hear directly from donald trump tonight, but his campaign did put out notable statement in their concession speech. It read in part, ted cruz is worse than a puppet. He is a trojan horse being used by the party bosses attempting to steal the nomination from mr. Trump. The statement also goes on to allege there is collusion going on, illegal collusion between ted cruz and the super pac, which is illegal under laws. John, is there anything that would indicate there is something illegal going on with ted cruz and his super pacs and i guess the days of the gracious concession speeches from donald trump are long gone. Lets remind your viewers that ted cruz and donald trump hate each other personally. Recently. Yes. Theres still etiquette in these things, isnt there . I dont think donald trump believes in etiquette. To answer your question, there isnt a shred of evidence to show ted cruz colluded or coordinated with a super pac, so thats false. It looks like donald trump is grasping at straws. Trump did what he needed to do in that statement, which is accusing ted cruz of being the establishments choice because this on the republican side is an antiestablishment election. If the electorate believes that, that reinforces trumps argument. To talk about cruzs win, how much was this a vote for ted cruz as opposed to, you know, just a never trump vote . I think it was all of the above. It was a vindication for the gop establishment, for the establish nment wisconsin, and was a landslide victory that ted cruz needed to sort of propel his campaign forward with momentum to create a narrative that he is able to sort of cut into Donald Trumps lead and prevent him from getting to that crucial 1237 number. I think it also created a story line that ted cruz can broaden his base, he can appeal to a wider set of voters beyond just the hard core, die hard, you know, republican activists, conservative, religious, evangelical voters. He can now appeal to moderates, working class folks who are in different parts. Country other than just the south. The question is, can he appeal to those voters or do they disdain donald trump so much that right. This was the first shot we really saw the antitrump people have the opportunity to coalesce around one major candidate. And they did. It worked. It really really reinvigorated ted cruzs story, that donald trump can be stopped. Every time donald trump suffers a setback, does he something within the next 24hour news cycle. Does he have to go to fifth avenue and shoot someone, like he said he would . Is this how he regains the news psych snl. One is to dig up dirt on ted cruz we have yet to see. It could be affairs. Thats been tried. Check on that one. Hes canadian. Weve tried that. Youre right. All odds are saying this next twoweek stretch until we get to new york will be a bad two weeks for donald trump. He has to hunker down, do the best he can and then win big in new york, carrying all of new yorks delegates and then take the fight here to california, win big in california and tell people hes back in this. If i could jump in real quick, every time theres been a devastatiing loss for donald trump, he has had to come up for some justification why it wasnt his fault. In iowa, it was the ted cruz mailer about ben carson, and now hes coming up with excuses, oh, some coordination with the super pac with ted cruz in wisconsin. Hes never willing to take the blame for his losses. I wonder if well see that moving forward now that ted cruz has momentum in other states he could potentially win over trump. What was remarkable tonight, everybody agrees, donald trump had a really bad last week. It was bad. Some were unforced errors. Others were forced. We saw tonight from exit polls that Donald Trumps core supporters, even among women who did not like him, did not abandon him. They stayed with him. The fact is donald trump, its not that hes collapsing, its that ted cruz is growing. Thats the problem were seeing. Can he grow in new york, can he grow in the northeast where his message of conservative purity and religious faith doesnt necessarily resonate the same way it does into other parts of the midwest . Its a great argument. Its very difficult. Were seeing, can the momentum of this win carry cruz. Bernie sanders believes he has momentum. Hes talking about taking this all the way to the white house. He says the key to that will, in fact, be the superdelegates. I think that a lot of these superdelegates are going to be looking around them and are going to be saying, which candidate has the momentum . Which candidate is bringing out huge numbers of people and creating huge which candidate can bring out large numbers of people . What are the chances those superdelegates will, in fact, look at whos bringing out the huge crowds and switch from hillary to bernie . I think its highly unlikely most of them will. Some will peel away. The reality is Bernie Sanders has the wind at his back. Hes won seven of the last eight contests. Hes poised to win the wyoming caucus this saturday. He has nothing to lose, right, so might as well do everything you can to peel away on the superdelegates. There are 7 0 superdelegates yet to make a decision on the race. He has to go after each and every one of those. The reality is he has a very steep hill to climb. He has to win more than twothirds of the kel delegates to catch up to Hillary Clinton, not just surpass her. The Clinton Campaign manager robby mook put out a statement saying this, in part, the Sanders Campaign relies on overturning the will of the voters. The latest strategy is flipping state delegates, while also convincing superdelegates they deserve his support. Hes trying to overturn the will of the people. Bernie sanders has made himself out to be the guardian of democracy and trying to flip what people want. I think its slightly disingenuous for the clinton to say that. I have a lot of respect for robby mook. This is stray out of the barack obama playbook. He was able to peel away a significant chunk of Hillary Clintons voters on the heels of several consecutive wins saying, i have a path way to victory. Im the most electable candidate in the general election up against the republicans. Bernie sanders is following the obama playbook from 2008. With the delegates here with this win, its a good win for Bernie Sanders, everyone is saying great, 13 points but its proporti proportional. He needs to break through in one of those big states. Until hes going to do that, then nothing will change. You have to have change here. Thats right. I think its undeniable Bernie Sanders has big mo on his side. Hes had a bunch of consecutive wins but he has a fundamental problem. He has to shift the demographic arc of this race. Bernie sanders has a lock on white liberals. No question. But until he can start winning africanamericans and latinos, he cannot overcome this gap. Looking forward to california, thats critical. Dave, Hillary Clinton has kind of made the strategic move of focusing on the general and taking on donald trump, the presumptive nominee. Has the time come with bernie winning six of the last seven, has the time come for her to refocus and basically take the gloves off . Indeed. Weve seen that pivot actually, an email from the Clinton Campaign, having a thin xraenss ive campaign. He was asked in an editorial interview, what are his key for Foreign Policy issues and he didnt have any specifics. We saw her take him to task at a couple debates ago where, you know, he didnt have anything to say on Foreign Policy beyond just hitting her on her war in iraq vote. Youll see that increase. Well see the polls close in states like new york. It will be a devastating blow if she loses her home state. I think shell do anything she can to increase the intensity of her campaign, take the gloves off, take him to task and prevent a Bernie Sanders victory in new york. Hillary thought weeks ago this contest should have been over. Michigan, thats when this should have been done. Bernie sanders is the everready bunny. Just keeps going and going. Who thought she would still be going up against a 74yearold socialist by april. Unbelievable. And him raising so much money. Thats the story of his campaign . Whats going to happen to all that cash . Time for a quick break, Bernie Sanders says he has momentum after his big win over Hillary Clinton in wisconsin. And he says the democratic frontrunner is getting nervous. If you ignore what you hear on corporate media, the facts are pretty clear. We have a path toward victory, a path toward the white house. Honey, we need to talk. We do . I took the trash out. I know. And thank you so much for that. I think we should get a Medicare SupplementInsurance Plan. Right now . [ male announcer ] dont wait. Call today to request your free decision guide and find the aarp Medicare Supplement plan to go the distance with you. Go long. Let me take this opportunity to thank the people of wisconsin for their strong support. With our victory tonight in wisconsin, we have now won seven out of eight of the last caucuses and pry marries. It was a great night for the democratic president ial candidate Bernie Sanders. He won his partys primary in the state of wisconsin. A great night for ted cruz. He won the republican primary there as well. He beat donald trump with about 48 of the vote to trumps 35 . For sanders, he won wis is with 56 of the vote. Hillary clinton got 43 . Meanwhile, it is looking more and more likely the republicans will have a contested convention. To win the nomination, a candidate needs 1237 delegate votes. Right now no one has that number. Mathematically speaking, its getting much more difficult. Most delegates are bound on the first ballot. After that they can switch candidates and theyll keep voting until someone wins. Its a lot more complicated than that. Bernie sanders has already moved on to wyoming, the next caucuses, after his wisconsin win. Brianna keilar was at the victory rally. Reporter Bernie Sanders in wyoming celebrating his win in the wisconsin primary. He was here at the university of wyoming in laramie riling up supporters. A number of them students, who he will be relying on when democrats caucus in wyoming on saturday. Hes hoping to add the caucuses on saturday to a string of recent wins, create some momentum and head into the New York Primary on april 19th and give Hillary Clinton a run for his money. Please keep this a secret. Do not tell secretary clinton. Shes getting a little nervous. And i dont want her to get more nervous. The but i believe weve got an excellent chance to win new york and day lot of delegates in that state. Reporter his campaign citing the ability to reduce her pledge delegate lead by 80 or so delegates. Theres still a considerable spread between the two candidates. More than 200 delegates. Bernie sanders and his campaign are insisting there is a path to the white house. Brianna keilar, cnn, laramie, wyoming. The sanders camp says they might have an open. John king shows a hypotheticalal scenario to see how far apart the candidates really are. Reporter for the sake of argument, im going to give them all to you. This is like the price is right. If we give it all to you at 5545, you almost catch her. But you come up a little short. So, obviously, especially in some of these big states, there there are a couple hundred delegates, you dont dispute that. Some smaller states, as you know, we have won the earlier states in the last couple of weeks by 60 , 70 , 80 in alaska, and so, yes, some well have a state like alaska, thats only 20 delegates. You win huge but you get a net gain of ten. You need better than that. As we saw in nevada, many caucus states, senator sanders will end up with more delegates as they go through the caucus process, hell add many more delegates than initially. Ill go back a few on you. Since were playing devils advocate. Lets say Hillary Clinton wins the state of pennsylvania. Ill say for the sake of argument, she wins nevada. This is even im still giving you a bunch of states and clinton people are saying, no way new jersey, no way West Virginia. The question is, in terms of pledge delegates, and i havent done that trick where i bring up the superdelegates because if you do this, some superdelegates will change their mind. Some. How do you change the map so that you catch her . Not just get close to her, but catch her . Some states well have bigger margi margins. The truth is, it will be the smaller states. Its 37 delegates. Youre youre never making big math. Its slow and steady wins the race. This is the number right here, of course, 2383. En in of these show either person getting to 3283. Democrats are going to an open convention. You sincerely believe that . Absolutely. Cnn senior reporter, you just watched that. Theyre holding onto this belief. Even after seeing the map, theyre not letting go of this argument. Theyre not letting go. Theres no greater way to galvanize your supporters by raising the prospect of an open convention. If you have sanders supporters who are down and out who believe maybe Hillary Clinton is going to be the nominee, as many people do, and you say, we might have an open convention, how many people are booking tickets for philadelphia. When you look at the map and the math its all they got. If if youre a losing candidate, Rick Santorum or lindsey graham, its really hard to step away from a president ial campaign. Its especially hard to step away if you have a ton of money, which Bernie Sanders has, and if youve galvanized this movement. Look, you think about it, theyre going up against Hillary Clinton. Hillary clinton, the most qualified in terms of her resume, lo and behold theyre having these huge victories in all these states up. Dont step away from that. You continue to advance your agenda, and you do it, youve created a movement and taking the Democratic Party in a direction. Some democratic stalwarts, some in the party say the problem is knowing hes not going to win, and hes weakening her as a general election candidate and for the good of the party, he should think about pulling back. What he would say being the sort of tried and true democratic socialist that he is what am i doing is good for the party. Clearly clearly, the desire for a more progressive socialist agenda exists. I have galvanized that movement, four years from now maybe there will be a guy whos not a 74yearold white guy from vermont, maybe a young latino coming out of a state like texas or arizona, who knows, and hell galvanize the party but hes taking it in a direction. I dont see him stepping away from that until the convention. The other problem for Hillary Clinton is shes celebrating two campaigns right now. Shes focusing on taking on donald trump instead of maybe in a general election matchup. We didnt hear from her tonight. We heard from her on tuesday and, again, she was going after donald trump at this Campaign Event in new york. How do we unify this country . Too many voices, too many people trying to divide americans against americans. I wish theyd all come to new york and spend time. The fellow from new york, i wish he would get out of one of his towers and actually walk the streets and spend time with the people. Of this city because peddling prejudice and paranoia is not the new york way. Given the results in wisconsin and the wins Bernie Sanders is racking up, even though its almost impossible for him to get the nomination, does she need to put that on hold and go after Bernie Sanders and put this away in new york . I think she needs to do two things, her public remarks, the fact she didnt give a concession speech tonight, she needs to be the general election candidate. She has cast herself as that. She does have the delegates working in her favor. Its going to be like many of our recent general elections, it will be a contentious won. Her campaign is working to shore up support in new york. They need to win new york by a big margin. I would say that behind the scenes the campaign is focused on sanders. In terms of her public persona, shes totally on trump and the republicans. One thing about trump and the republicans and how this played out in wisconsin because the win for cruz is remarkable on many fronts. One fact is we saw talk radio, we saw these rightwing radio hosts coalesce around cruz and really go to bat for him. Talk to us about the moment we just witnessed and the significance going forward. Its a big moment because for so many conservatives, republicans, they are the ones who feel they dont have a voice. Not just with the political establishment, but with the media, the national media. They look to talk radio as their sort of voices. And guys in rightwing talk radio talk about the fundamentals of conservativism. They really do. They look at donald trump. She see him as the coastal formerly liberal elite guy. Hes not their guy. Ted cruz is their guy. We saw radio hosts doing it in iowa and in florida and now in wisconsin, and in a really big way. What youre seeing is that sort of momentum. Youre not just seeing the establishment gravitate toward cruz, youre seeing talk radio come to cruz. Those make for strange bed fellows but could prove to be effective. Interesting how talk radio is evolving. There were comments about trump and abortion and some things that lost him in that kind of fear of rightwing talk radio. Thank you, dylan. Thank you. A defeat for trump, a win for cruz. Ahead, more on the changing landscape in the race for the white house. What brand of makeup is better for your skin than wearing no makeup at all . Neutrogena® cosmetics. A real choice. Big, big night for ted cruz and Republican Voters in wisconsin have given him a major boost. Cnn projects he won his primary there with more than 48 of the vote. That moves the Republican Party closer to an historic contested convention. Cnn also projects Bernie Sanders has won wisconsins democratic president ial primary with about 56 of the vote. In is senator sanders sixth straight win over Hillary Clinton. Now, the wisconsin win is big for cruz and tough news for trump. Sunlen serfaty looks at how the two campaigns are reacting. Reporter senator cruz celebrating his big win in wisconsin is making clear hes already looking forward and making a reer to ral pivot toward the general election, not mentioning his rivals donald trump or john kasich much during his speech here, rather, going after Hillary Clinton, ending his speech with the words, point blank, Hillary Clinton, we are coming for you. Now, cruz is still behind in the delegate count. And the results push this potentially more towards a contested convention, but cruz said that this is a path that he is confident of. Either before cleveland or at the convention in cleveland, together we will win a majority of the delegates and together we will beat Hillary Clinton in november. Reporter and donald trump did not have an Election Night event but his campaign has issued a response to the results in wisconsin, which in part say, quote, ted cruz is worse than a puppet. Hes a trojan horse being used by the party bosses attempting to steal the nomination from mr. Trump. And the Cruz Campaign is responding to that Trump Campaign statement already, basically casting trump as being a sore loser. A top aide telling me they believe trump is in full meltdown mode. Sunlen serfaty, cnn, wisconsin. Cnn politics reporter joining us from washington, tal kopan. Thank you for staying up with us. 3 30 right there in washington. Welcome to the late, late show. I want to read that statement out from the Trump Campaign. Donald j. Trump withstood the onslaught of the establishment yet again. Lien ted cruz and the governor of wisconsin, many conservative radio talk show hosts and apparatus behind him, not only was the super pac spending millions, but he was coordinating with his own super pacs, who is illegal, who totally control him. Ted cruz is worse than a puppet, hes a trojan horse, being used by party bosses attempting to steal the nomination from mr. Trump. This is a blistering statement. Whatever truth there was between donald trump and the republican establishment, thats over, but how long will this go on for and what does this all lead to . Im not sure that truce was ever really there. We could probably spend an hour dissecting the statement. It is classic trump in quite a bit of ways. Its sort of doublebarrelled here. In one sense hes speaking to his base and riling up his base. Throughout this campaign weve seen him bring out new voters to the Republican Party. People really respond to his outsider status. Hes very much supported by voters who think the gop establishment and politicians in washington are totally corrupt. So, in one way its speaking directly to that base and riling them up. In a different way, its a shot across the bow. Hes shown the tendency to play the ref, he likes to attempt the media, if he can, and hes intimidated the Republican Party every turn of this campaign as much as he can to try to get the field to line up in his favor. So, this is sort of a classic trump move of trying to look to the next primary thats going to be coming up and rile up his base to come out for them and try to get the Republican Party to back off him a little bit. Another classic trump move is for him trying to have it both ways. In wh he met with Party Leaders in d. C. , he put out that tweet saying, i will ee night the party. On one hand hes a uniter and on the other hand hes a disrupter. Trying to do 2 both ways. Absolutely. Its something weve seen the whole time. The only one who can speak for donald trump is donald trump. Sometimes you get a different donald trump depending on the hour hes tweeting or the day. Hes shown a remark teflon ability to say things that in any other campaign would totally doom a candidate and then come back in an hour the next day and say, no, that was misinterpreted. Thats not what i meant. Let me correct the record. His supporters accept it. We have not seen his suspect flag at all in light of these issues. Hes had a really rough week. We had misstatements auto abortion that hes sort of gone back and forth on. Hes been slammed by antiabortion groups and prochoice groups alike, so its been a little difficult for him in that regard. Thats just one element of a rough week. There was the spat over the wives which he admitted a tweet was a mistake, which we dont see a lot from him. Well see moving forward if theres a bit of chink in the armor, but so far we havent seen, even on bad weeks. One statement by the Trump Campaign is clearly is painting ted cruz as the establishment candidate. I think its pretty much agreed that he is. But its by a great deal of reluctance he is. How hard is it for the senior elders in the Republican Party to hold their nose and endorse ted cruz . How much do they dislike this guy . How difficult is it for them . Its truly remarkable for us in washington. I was struck listening to ted cruz tonight. He listed off his establishment endorsements. He thanked jeb bush and scott walker and mark lee and those who have lined up behind him. I was struck by how far hes come. He was trailing in the endorsement race for weeks and weeks and months. Couldnt get a single Senate Colleague to support him. They all lined up behind marco rubio or jeb bush before that. Lindsey graham joked early in this campaign that choosing between ted cruz and donald trump was like choosing between being shot and poisoned. He was out there tweeting how wonderful it was ted cruz won and the stop trump forces were reinvigorated. Its absolutely remarkable. There is certainly a great amount of noseholding, as you put it. Clearly people view ted cruz as the only bay to stop donald trump and most of of their interest is in protecting the party. If they believe ted cruz is the best candidate to protect the party, youll see them line up behind him. Lindsey graham was also the guy that joked about murdering ted cruz on the floor of the senate. That wasnt too long ago. A strange campaign. Now all friends. Very strange. Donald trump bringing people together. There you go. Appreciate it. Tal, thank you. Thank you, guys. Now, the governor of mississippi has signed a controversial bill that gay rights advocates say makes description a part of law. Supporters of the bill say it actually protects rights. The u. S. State of mississippi now the latest to consider and pass controversial legislation, the socalled religious freedom bill, despite pressure from opponents and also, of course, big businesses. Governor phil bryant signed the legislation into law yesterday, unlike bils or laws in other states, this one establishes three religious beliefs now protected by the state of mississippi. Marriage is recognized only as being between a man and a woman, sexual relations are reserved only to heterosexual marriages and an individuals sex is determined at birth. The law that kicks into effect july 1st will give businesses, organizations in mississippi the right to refuse service to anyone outside of those three different beliefs that have been established this week. Supporters like mississippi governor bryant says the law is simply meant to protect the religious rights of people. It basically says the state or political subdivisions cannot discriminate against someone because of their deeply held religious views. If a baker or photographer says my deeply held religious views say i cant pamp in a religious ceremony like a wedding, the state cannot fine you. We cant take your license from you, other provisions within that law, but thats the basis of it. The state cannot discriminate against someone because of their religious views. Thats the intent. Law. It doesnt create a discriminatory act or power on anyones part. It simply protects someones religious view against the states interference. You talk to opponents who disagree. They say this is simply discrimination. Lbgt people in mississippi who have heard throughout the years, maybe at a church or at school or even in their home theyre not a value and their second class and here is our state leader saying the same thing. Lawmakers in North Carolina face pressure to repeal a new law mandating which public rest rooms locker rooms can and cant be used by transgender individuals. Then you look ahead. Theres a bill that would allow therapists and marriage counselors in tennessee the right to essentially turn away people based on their religious belief. City to require six weeks of fully paid parental leave at many of its businesses. The board of supervisors approved the law. It targets companies with 20 or more employees. San francisco also offers 12 weeks of fully paid leave for its 30,000 city employees. Supporters applaud the new move, which goes into effect next year. Opponents say it will hurt businesses and it will cost jobs. Go long. Welcome back, everyone. Wisconsin voters gave ted cruz a victory over donald trump and moved the Republican Party closer to a contested convention. Cruz is the projected winner of wisconsin primary, beating trump by 13 percentage points. Meantime, wisconsin is the latest in a series of victories as Bernie Sanders is projected to win the states democratic contest with 38 of the vote. Donald trump announced details to make mexico pay for that wall on the border. The main plan, a threat to block currency transfers to mexico. Trump says he would use an antiterrorism law to force Money Transfer companies, such as Western Union, to verify customers identity and legal status before allowing them to make a transaction. Undocumented immigrants would then be barred from wiring funds. Trump says the ban would be lifted once mexico pays the United States 5 to 10 billion to build the wall. He said he would also consider imposing tariffs on mexican impor imports, canceling travel visa and raising visa fees in mexico does not comply. Barack obama says trumps plan would not work and would have wider consequences overall. The notion were going to track every Western Union bit of money being sent to mexico, you know, good luck with that. Then weve got the issue of the implications for the mexican economy, which in turn, if its collapsing, actually sends more immigrants north because they cant find jobs back in mexico. But this is just one more example of something that is not thought through and is primarily put forward for political consumption. Cnns rafael romo spoke with immigrants who say theyll support their families back home no matter what. If you go to communities across the United States with high concentration of immigrants from latin america, youre going to find places like this. Here in atlanta, a Shopping Center and also a place where immigrants, mainly mexicans, get together. They shop, they dine in little restaurants like this one, and they do one more thing that is crucial for their families back home, they send money to mexico. Its very important to send money because they work hard here and most of them have families over there and its very hard to find jobs in mexico. Reporter Donald Trumps reported plan to force the Mexican Government to pay for a border wall by stopping undocumented immigrants from transferring money to mexico, as you can imagine, is cause for great concern for mexican immigrants documented or not. This is complete foolishness, she says. We cant do it. Were going to keep sending money to our people, as we always have. According to mexicos central bank, mexican abroad send nearly 24. 8 billion to their country last year. Mainly from the United States. This is more money than mexicos total oil revenues for 2015, estimated at 23. 4 billion. This is the first time that incoming Money Transfers are higher than oil revenues since they started taking records in 1995. So donald trump wants to block Money Transfers to mexico to build a wall. What do you think about that . He only makes me laugh, she says. I dont agree. Im proudly mexican and dont agree with what this gentleman wants to do. Hes crazy, she says. They should take him to see a psychiatrist. I hope all hispanics, those who are hit zens, go out and vote against him. These immigrants say no matter what, mexicans will always find a way to help their families back home. Rafael romo, cnn, atlanta. We should note, all of Donald TrumpsCampaign Rallies he always gets a really big applause whenever he brings up hes going to build a wall and make mexico pay for it. Lots and lots of cheers. Were going to take a quick break. Youre watching cnn. Do stay with us. Wax, everybody. Wisconsin is the latest battleground in the u. S. President ial race. Heres a quick recap of tuesdays results. The republican ted cruz beat donald trump with about 48 of the vote. Trump got 35 . And democrat Bernie Sanders won wisconsin with 56 of the vote to Hillary Clintons 43 . Coincidence both up by 13 , how about that . Right now, the numbers for the republican nomination are not heading towards a slam dunk for any single candidate. John king plays around with likely san air yoes and they all seem to point to a contested or open convention where no candidate wins on the first ballot. Lets look at the map. And i give donald trump a few more delegates. In order to be generous to mr. Trump to go forward to show you the difficulty of his math and the likelihood of that open convention. Some missouri delegates we havent officially awarded yet. I give them to mr. Trump. Lets say we start with mr. Trump and coming now into what should be his neighborhood. Im going to start giving him states. Ill give him new york, connecticut, stretch this out and give him rhode island and ill go through and say mr. Trump wins new jersey. Ill say mr. Trump wins pennsylvania. Well give him maryland, delaware and West Virginia as well. As we do this, ill leave indiana for a minute. Debate about that. Lets come out to the west. Ted cruz has done well out west. You can see as hes filled in. Lets say as we go forward, this could change. To give you a sense of the difficulty of the math. Lets say cruz is winning in these states. Well go up here. Im going to leave california. At this point ive left california and indiana. Let me tap this to get that off. Thank you very much. Look where trump is there. 993, assuming he does very well here. We gave him generous delegate allocations. For the sake of the hypothetical, i have him at 993. Who wins indiana . Ted cruz thinks hell win it. For the hypothetical well give it to ted cruz. Even if you gave it to donald trump, back here if he gets it, he gets a little closer. The big prize, obviously, california on june 7th. If this one goes to donald trump, even if we give him all the delegates and i gave him indiana and very generous to him here, hes just shy. You need 1237. Hes just shy. This would be difficult for republicans to say, sorry, mr. Trump, if he got that close. But remember,i justdid thisin an incredibly generous way. People anyone that is watching that is a ted cruz supporter probably thinks this one will go that way instead. Under a very generous scenario, trump comes up just short. If he could be high 1100s, right around 1200. The interesting thing is this week is more and more republicans saying, even if hes close, even if hes above 1200, theyll try to stop him at the convention. We have a ways to go but i think well end tonight saying an open or contested convention is much more likely. John king and his awesome magic wall. Very magical.
