Breaking news this morning. Five americans are on a plane, one step closer to their freedom after being wrongfully detained for years in iran. We are live in qatar which is their first stop and where they are expected to touchdown any moment. In georgia, a hearing a under way for one of Donald Trumps codefendants where one of the defendants is asking his case to be moved from a State Court Into Federal court, and will it fail like mark meadows did. And how, a irs agent is saying that his rights were failed. With kate bolduan and sara sidner, im john berman and this is cnn news central. Five prisoners in iran wrongfully detained are expected to arrive in qatar by jet. And talking ging about siamak , emad sharghi, morad tahbaz and two other Unidentified Americans will be headed to america. And now 6 billion will be available to iran for humanitarian reason, and five iranian held prisoners will be released as well. Becky anderson is in doha, and what is the very latest that you are hearing from here, and what are these next steps . Well, within the hour, the flights, the Qatar Airline flight carrying five american citizens, and siamaks wife will be on the plane and land in an airport in doha and processed here and greeted by The Americans who have been part of this in direct negotiation and then headed home free at last, and what a feeling that must be after what has been years long incarceration, wrongfully detained in iran for so long. Sigh Siamak Namazi has been wrongfully in prison on charges that he colluded with a hostile government and charges america and americans are saying that these charges are untrue. In the air, they have cleared iranian air space, and they are due here within the hour. Qatar, the Mediation Country here working tirelessly behind the scenes for the last 18 months and eight rounds of talks we are told by the sources who are familiar the situation here sorted the logistics and the qatari ambassador took The Americans to the airport just about an hour and a half ago, and boarded the plane with them, and also organizing for the 6 billion worth of iranian assets that are being transferred from a south korean bank via switzerland to doha banks here. That cash is going to be available to the iranian authorities to spend on humanitarian goods. That is the story and the very latest here, and bottom line, we should see that Qatar Airways plane arriving at this airport on the tarmac behind me within the hour. Kate . It is great to have you there, becky. Natasha, we had john kirby from the white house on, and he said when they land in qatar, that is going to be the moment they have a sense, and to get the first eyes and first conversations with all five of The Americans when they land there. Kirby also saying that this is a great day for everyone to see this happening. Talk to me about the months and months of negotiations of how this came about . Yes, kate, it played out over six or seven month, and the administration has been pursuing a deal to get these americans released since coming into office, and the contours of the deal took shape about seven months ago and importantly the u. S. Officials never actually spoke to the iranian officials facetoface. The u. S. And iran dont have diplomatic relations, and everything with regard to the negotiations was taking place through intermediaries and the qataris were an important part of having the american Prisoners Released in teheran, and the iranian prisoners held in the u. S. , and the 6 billion in fund also being released which is a key part of the deal as well. That is the part of the negotiation that has sparked a lot of the backlash by republicans who have criticized administration for releasing the funds which are iranian funds for iran to use for humanitarian purposes. The administration is pushing back, and saying, look, this is not going to fundamentally change our relationship with iran. They said that iran is an adversary and statesponsor of ter terrorism, but when we are bringing americans home, we will seize it, and that is what we are doing here. The Biden Administration is going to issue new sanctions from iran, and target the ministry of intelligence and iranian president mahmou d adenazad. And expect more, natasha. Thank you. Sara . Yes, and we have seen many, many case where is The Americans have been detain and then eventually released, and so is christiane, i wanted to know how they got released in some ways . Yes, and i spoke to the one who has been held the longest, see sighamak namazi, and when i asked about the charges put against him, he said, we have all been charged being connected to a hostile government, and he said that we are all american, and i dont know how you make that up, and he said that the only reason they were taken and The Americans before them is because they were americans, and that is it. Just because they are americans. They are taken and used as pawns in this political and horrible game between the United States and iran that has lasted since 1979. There were the hostages taken at the very beginning of the revolution, and siamak has been held six times as long as those, and that all it is, iran to get back its own money, which it is, and that is the way they do it. And individuals pay the price. I wanted to talk to you about namazi, because you have this incredible interview that could have put him in quite a bit of danger, because he was speaking out to someone who would broadcast this across the world, and listen to a little bit of the conversation. Honestly, the other hostages and i desperately need President Biden to finally hear us out, and hear our cry to help and bring us home. I suppose desperate times call for desperate measures, and so this is a desperate measure. I am clearly nervous. I mean, he Sounds Extremelier in voushgs and he sounds frightened and he does not sound well as he is sitting in this notoriously dangerous prison. Do you think that conversation may have moved needle some . I do. I think that somebody who is in prison without being free, and without having all that is available to us standing right here with us right now takes that decision to put his life at risk to make a desperate plea to his President Biden and to everybody including iranian government who is responsible for holding him to please get this sorted, i think that it is a huge, huge, huge step of courage. Yes, he was nervous, and he did even get emotional in the interview s. He spoke on behalf of himself, and emad sharghi and morad tahbaz, and two others who had been there for much, much less time, a saying that they deserved to be treated as human be beings, and they have not done anything wrong, and we havent so much as jaywalked. It is because we are american citizens, and we are pawns in this game. I will say that he talked to me about, and he would not go into a lot of detail, but a he is under the iranian guard, but of the indignities that he and the others faced and certainly himself in the twoplus years, solitary confinement, and being fed like a dog through the underneath of the prison door, et cetera, and you know, he took this step. I hope that it did rattle some cages everywhere including in the u. S. Administration to finally get serious about these negotiations. We know that the Family Members have been coming on all over the world to get people to listen, but you have talked about them being used as pawns, and you have reported on this many times before, and should there be concern of making the deal, and 6 billion, and it is going to be a separate thing, and the United States will only release for humanitarian reason, but they are getting some prisoners as well, but is that problematic . It is problematic, because hostages are used instead of policy. And President Biden went into a similar deal with russia with whom the United States is in a proxy war with right now to get out brittney griner, and our colleague Evan Gershkovich in there. And we have the most terrible regime in moscow there, and previous president s, President Trump dealt with the iranians get there, and left siamak behind. So, in the end, if they can come up with some antihostagetaking plan and the whole world can be on the same side, and every country has an issue, and they have gone into the deal in the end, and including brits and many allies, including u. S. It is not just this administration, but it is administration after administration, and americans being used as pawns. Donald trump says it is his decision to try to overturn the 2020 election results, and remember that everything that he says now can be used in court. Happening at this moment in georgia, a formal hearing for Jeffrey Clark who is looking to get his election subversion charges out of state and into federal court. The lawyer for clark is making same arguments of mark meadow, and a lawyer for donald trump is inside. Katelyn polantz just stepped outside of the court. What are you seeing . Well, Jeffrey Clark, himself, he is not here, and so he is not going to be testifying today, john. We did not expect him to necessarily, because he has already submitted a sworn statement to the court about what he was doing after the election saying it is part of his job, and he was not doing anything on Donald Trumps behalf personally, but this is a important hearing, because we went through this with mark med dose and that was rejected and moving up to the Appeals Court about whether he could move his case, and that was politics and the role of the white house, but this is a bigger question today, and one that may be harder for judge jones, a federal judge here in Northern District of georgia, and the question is whether the state prosecutors can look into what the Justice Department was doing at the time after the election. Jeffrey clark was serving as the head of the Civil Division of the Justice Department, and a pretty prominent role in that entity and that agency, but he was in touch with donald trump, himself, and something that he was not authorized to do in that position and he also wanted to send on the Justice Department letterhead, a letter to the State Of Georgia the give them cover to look into the Election Fraud when the Justice Department knew that there was not a reason for them to look into this, and that there was not widespread fraud, and that the federal government knew that, and they were telling Jeffrey Clark not to do this, and not to do this, and his attorney Harry Mcdougal and one of the things that he was saying is that the draft letter that he prepare on behalf of the Justice Department that was never sent, and that it never left the office at the Justice Department, and if that can be part of the states case against him is a big question, because kit have implications for donald trump himself, and his attorneys are here to see how the proceedings are going, and it is come down to how much protection Jeffrey Clark and people like him may get because they were serving as federal officials after the 2020 election with the things they were doing, and now accused of being crimes in the State Of Georgia. And Katelyn Polantz from almost realtime updates from inside of that courtroom. Keep us posted. Thank you. Kate. And did donald trump just complicate matters for all of the defendants . The most senior lawyers in your own administration and on the campaign told you that after you had lost more than 60 legal challenges that it was over. Why did you ignore them and decide to listen to a new o outside group . Because i did not respect them. Were you calling the shots, mr. President , ultimately . As to whether or not i thought that it was rigged . Surement it was my decision, but i listened to some people. Some people said that. Joining us now is cnn legal analyst, elie, on that, do you think that the comments from donald trump in this new interview with Kristen Welker are going to be a problem in court . Well, it is helpful for prosecutor, because he said, this is my intent here to try to reverse the election, and i was calling the shots. Jack smith wont have any problem to establishing that, but it is nice to have him looking into the camera saying that, but this is the overall defense, and he is going to argue, i am telling you that there is no evidence, and others are saying, that there is evidence, and so i made the decision to press forward and useful piece of evidence for the prosecutors on the whole. And for Jeffrey Clark not to go to court today, and if we split screen this with the last request from mark meadows, and mark med dose testifying, and took the risky move for testifying, and it did not work out for him, and why would he not want to testify . Well, mark meadows is exhibit a of why Jeffrey Clark is not testifying. He is a lawyer, and he has his own lawyers, and they told him, you dont want to be anywhere near the courthouse or in the State Of Georgia. Now, if you are making the motion where he says, i want to take my case out of state court and over to the federal court, you have to prove that he was doing his job. So he could take the stand, but also, he could submit a written affidavit, and so what he is going to do by his attorney is saying that affidavit is the strength of his testimony. And what evidence does he have to have to have his case moved from state to federal . It is some untrod territory here, and he has a weakened case, because he is a doj official, and i didnt have the same job, but i have a good familiarity of what you are supposed to do there. And what he did is to draft a letter from the department of justice and to the State Of Georgia saying that we have found fraud, and this is a fraud, and this is opposite that you are supposed to investigate with good faith, and reveal the findings of that investigation, and so i am not seeing that what he did is within the scope as a doj official. And what we are hearing from Katelyn Polantz from the courthouse who is ip side of the court as we are hearing is that it actually never left the office or the Justice Department, and so why should state prosecutors be able to look into something that never left the office. Do you see how is this different if at all from mark meadows in terms of the actual jobs and roles of the federal government . Well, it is interesting argument from Jeffrey Clark, if i drafted it and going to save it on my computer if we found some fraud, that is one thing, and the fact is that Jeffrey Clark wanted to get this letter sent out of the buildings, the superiors of doj said no way, and the same judge here as in the case of mark meadows, and each of these motions, and even maybe one from donald trump is going to be evaluated on its own merit, and maybe it is not a good sign that mark meadows did not succeed, but everyone will be determined on a separate scope. So why wouldnt donald trump have done it from now . Well, you have 30 days from arraignment, and so trump has less than two weeks to do it. I think that he is sitting back to watch at this point, and gathering all of the intelligence that he can. He has seen mark meadows take the stand, and he has seen a written detailed ruling rejecting mark meadows, and so if i am going through the ruling point by point, and say, where did mark meadows fall short, and where can we address this. He is going to make the motion, because there is too much to be gained going to federal court, but he is going to try to gain as much information. Is it possible that one of the attorneys is in the hearing . No, any time you have a multi defendant case, and in this case, 19 defendants, i expect all of the lawyers to be in the case, and if not making a motion, they are sitting in the back to learn about the judge, the prosecutions tactics and what is working and doesnt work, and it is one of the advantages of being one of many defendants in the case. One of the few. Thank you, elie. Sara . Breaking news for you at this hour, the Five Americans that were detained in iran for more than five years are finally out of iranian air space. We watched them get on a plane, and we now know that seven total people have made their way out of iranian air space. We are expecting to see them arrive in qatar very shortly. We will bring it to you live as soon as we can get it. Now, new this morning. Hunter biden is suing the irs saying that the agency unlawfully disclosed his Tax Information and failed to protect his private records. This is filed days after biden was indicted in a three felony gun charge, and we have also learned that he is facing a potential tax charge again as well. Kara scannelle is now gives us a sense of why biden is going to sue now, and there was a plea deal of owing back tax, and now he is suing the irs . This is a bolder Legal Defense here and suing irs, and filing a lawsuit saying that through the agency, and the two whistleblowers, that they disclosed private informationa and that the irs did not do a good job to safeguard the information. They are saying that the whistleblowers went beyond what is expected from the statue of the whistleblower to go forward. In the lawsuit, they are saying that the witnesses with the whistleblower label does not allow them to make disclosures of the process. The whistleblower is to uncover the cop duct and not the employees opinion of the wrongdoing of a private person. So in this, they point to a number of Public Opinions where, including on cnn, they are talking about their thoughts of the investigation that hunter biden has received favorable treatment. They talk specifically about what they say that hunter biden had in the tax returns in that he was taking as personal expense, and marking them as business expense, and including prostitutes and Club Memberships and hotel rooms for purported drug deals. And one also disclosed that he owed more than 2. 2 million in unpaid taxes, and this is what is Hunter Bidens attorneys are saying is the undisclosed amounts here. I just got comment from one of the whistleblower saying it is a smear by the biden family attorneys, and think did not overstep the boundaries of the whistleblower protection, and biden family got back to me saying they do not comment on pending litigation. All right. We will get back to you when we get more information. And now, five detained prisoners in iran are on a plane, and they will touch down any minute, and we will bring it to you live. Breaking news, Five Americans wrongfully detained in iran have cleared air space there and one step closer to coming home. They are expected to touch down in doha, qatar. And we have a team of analysts standing by, and first to Becky Anderson who is live in qatar right now, and where we are expecting plane to land shortly, becky. Reporter as the sun is going down here, it marks the end of a nightmare for these five prisoners. Siamak namazi is the longest held in the notorious prison here. And they are en route now to doha, and they have set up the steps here, and as i understand it, the plane moments from here now will taxi around behind us on the apron, and they have auxiliary staff here to make sure that detainees get off safely and as near as i can see off to the right, a delegation here to welcome them. Free at last is how they are going to be feeling after what has been such a long time. We know that they have been certainly not confirmed to us, but we understand that the five iranian prisoners held in the u. S. Have been released today, two of whom it is reported have actually arrived back to doha, and what we can send out is the official confirmation that the five u. S. Detainees are now moments away from arriving here in doha, and officially, we can confirm as well that the money, the iranian assets that were frozen in the south korean bank account transferred to switzerland. The u. S. Raising the sanctions waiver, and that 6 billion has now arrived in the doha bank account for iranian banks accounts to be used for humanitarian goods, and we are moments away from the arrival of the Qatar Airways airplane here at the qatar airplane. Give us a shout as soon as you see that plane. I want to bring in cnns natasha bertrand. You have been watching these negotiations for months and months and can you tell us how this has happen and i want to sort of reiterate john kirby who has talked to our kate bolduan and he said that there are seven people there, and the five who have been detained and two Family Members who have been allowed to leave iran. And so it is seven and not five. So it has to be a really emotional moment. Yes, and it is a very emotional moment. And a statement that says from President Biden, Five Americans will soon be reunited with their loved ones after years of agony and suffering, and he went on the thank the mayor of Qatar And Sultan Of qatar. And the u. S. Has been using these intermediaries to communicate with iran with whom they do not have diplomatic communications. He has also warned americans not to travel to iran. They have a longstanding Travel Warning that u. S. Citizens face a risk of kidnapping and arbitrary arrest and detention, and so, really, the u. S. Is trying to convey here to the public that while this is a victory by the Biden Administration, and while it is a sigh of relief for the families and the people detained for five years, do not go to iran. Iran does not recognize Iran American Dual citizens and they will use them as bargaining chips. So President Biden is confirming that this it is moving forward and we are about to see them land on the tarmac, and when they do, they will have access to the cell phones to then call their families back in the United States. Then, we expect them to head back to the u. S. From that long journey of doha to washington, d. C. , guys. So, what we are looking at, natasha, this is the plane on the ground in doha, and this is a huge moment. We will get back to Becky Anderson, who is right there where this plane is pulling up right now. Becky, talk to us. Reporter that is right. The plane is 1 45 minutes from tay hahn, and the steps will be pushed up against the door of the Qatar Airways plane, and we will see the five u. S. Detainees plus two Family Members descend those stairs where they will for real feel like they are free at last. And now, i will walk away from the shot here. Ambassador davis is waiting there on the tarmac, and that is the u. S. Ambassador to qatar waiting on the tarmac, and he is the First American to welcome these detainees and wrongfully detained in iraq and Siamak Namazi in the notorious evans prison, and he has talked about being abandoned and left behind by other administrations, and today, he is headed home. As i understand it, once these american citizens descend the stairs and they are welcomed by the delegation here by coteries and they will be processed by the airport here, and i know they will be wanting to get home to the United States as soon as possible, and we are told that may take an hour and a half or two hours, and no confirmation as of yet. But lets just have a look at this shot. Ill pause as we are awaiting the door opening on this Qatar Airways jet. As the sun is going down here in doha and the end of a nigh nightmarish lives in The Americans and their families to say the least. What we will see is the first time in eight years that Siamak Namazi has been able to breathe free air. I mean, this is a huge moment for him and his mother, as becky has told us, she is on board this flight as well. Emad sharghi, and i have been following their familys struggles and she was just here on the set to continue with the Biden Administration to continue to bargain to get these americans home, and it is one of the moments to impossibly know how they are feeling. It is a short flight from iran to doha across the persian gulf, short distance, but a huge distance metaphorically for these people who a month ago did not know if they would spend the rest of their lives in prison in iran with virtually no hope of due process, no hope of getting out. So just think of what this is like when they emerge from that door. And we will maybe finally learn who the other two americans are, because we have only seen Siamak Namazi, emad sharghi, and morad tahbaz because they were in prison, but two other americans whose names and images have not been released, so we may find out who they are, and we may find out the two other members of the family not detained, but they were not allowed leave iran the whole time. So as you are watching this, it is excruciatingly wonderful moment as they are walking out, and we are seeing that happen right now, and we are trying to see from our Vantage Point who is coming out. That is the emad the first is Siamak Namazi and then emad sharghi. Christiane amanpour. That is emad sharghi who is shaking hand to the ambassador to qatar. And christiane, after all of this time in the conversations that you have had, and siamak, lets just watch this, guy, and stop talking for one second. [ no audio ] we are watching extraordinary long embraces of those who have just left and now free in doha, and christiane, what are you seeing and your thoughts as you have covered this for so very long and you have talked to siamak who was in the evin prison and he spoke out beyond hope that the administration would get it done. Look, it is a an amazing day for diplomacy, and amazing day for humanity and for their families and for them, because certainly, siamak has been held nearly eight full years, and some of it under incredibly harsh solitary confinement, and harsh interrogation, and under the auspices of the revolutionary guard and then moved to a less awful part of the prison where he met up with morad and emad and had less of a horrible time, but nonetheless in confinement, and what you are seeing also is the two others who did not want to be named. They came out last. And siamak released a statement through his attorney. It is a lengthy statement, but the beginning of it. I would not be free today if it werent for all of you who did not allow the world to forget me. From the bottom of my heart thank you. Thank you for being my voice when i could not speak for myself and making sure they was heard when i mustered the strength to speak from behind the walls of a prison. It is great that he had the courage, and the kournlgt to follow through on the courage. He did as you know, an oped that he wrote to the new york times, and he went on a Hunger Strike for several days after he had spent time to try to concentrate the minds of those who had tried to help the regimes of qatar, switzerland, and et cetera who tried to help and who the president has thanked. I think that really poignantly in siamaks statement is that he has said that he cannot forget the dozens and dozens of prisoners still left behind and not americans, one from theless, iranian prisoners who suffer every single day of the dictatorial and authoritarian regime and most particularly those put in jail for simply standing up for right of women to be free and to be fairly treated in their country, and many, many of them are still obviously in prison, and he has in this moment of his own freedom has had the generosity and the presence of mind to always remember them as well. It is beautiful thing. We have a statement now from the tahbaz family. They said, look, we are overjoyed and relieved to have our loved ones finally free and grateful to the president , President Biden and his administration for making the difficult but necessary decision to prioritize the lives of american citizens over politics. When you think about the uncertainty that they lived under for eight years and the repression, you understand the hugs that we saw there, tight hugs of the u. S. Officials. And Jason Rezaian said that under the tentative deal of his release, things almost fell apart, and so he said that not literally until you are on the free soil was he going to breathe a sigh of relief, and that is what john kirby said to us earlier, we wont yes, it was several hours delayed of the snafus of the money, is it there . Is it there . And to see ya mack there, and with the mask, and tahbaz, and to the left of the screen is emad sharghi, and this is part of the statement, and while in eight years of prison s i experienced the worst of humanity everyday, but outside of the walls there were countless people who remind mode of the best of humanity. So that is really great. Said it all. A lot involved here we know, but i keep goose bumps seeing freedom. And double heartbreak for the namazi man is that his father was lured to iran to see his son, and what happened . He was snatched. And siamak told us that he didnt know that until he was presented in one of the negotiations of a form of blackmail by a prison guard that brought him to tears. His father was allowed to be released. But he was very ill. And he was very ill and it was appalling and all in the washington, d. C. , area waiting to receive him. And i have received a statement from the sharghi family, and reading this out and it is special, and net ta who i his sister, and we are so happy he no longer in iran, and we have been waiting for this day for 5 1 2 years and i cannot wait to hug my brother and never let him go. And you can see the beginning of the hugs there, and the three men walking to freedom now. That is so cool. And walking to freedom, and going inside and some processing, and not quickly enough for them. And getting a plane back to the United States and back to washington, d. C. , and Becky Anderson, you were there on this tarmac to witness this scene and to see these hug, and tell us what you saw. Reporter it is such an emotional moment, and i listened to christianes interview with siamak, and we have been on my show connect with Becky Anderson and it has been broadcast from this region following plight of these prisoners for years as well, and to be here as they touched down for the first time in so long as free men and their family m members of course with them, and it just occurred to me that the flight is less than a twohour flight. Yet two hours from here, it was the anniversary of mas as death over a hijab, and so this is not a anniversary, but we have discussed over the hours since this is happening, that it is at least diplomacy in action. Diplomacy worked today. Whatever happens next on the nuclear file, and whatever is happen next with the engagement by iran with this region and beyond, and this is for tomorrow, but for today, diplomacy worked and the Biden Administration was able to return five u. S. Citizens who have been wrongfully again, and felt abandoned by the administrations in the past, by the obama administrations and trump administration, and prisoner swaps in the past, but he was not a part of it, and so good story today, and the emotion on the tarmac here today is palpable. We are just watching pictures over and over and reracked so you can see the embrace, and the long embrace, and those in prison, they have not embraced anyone for the whole time they are in there, a they not getting p visitors in a place like that prison, and so it is giving you goose bumps, and chokes you up to watch this moment. They havent had phone calls. In certain periods they were not allowed visitors, but in certain periods they k. And now that they are out, siamaks mother is incredibly brave and she has been accompanied out to see her son and sustain him, and clearly morads wife and i am sure other Family Members. It is obviously that they are not free do it at will, but there are certain attempts, and you know, certain human connections, but you are right, probably the things that they could not touch, and i dont know that to be mhonest with yo. And seeiamak was able to cal out to you, but that is nothing but, you know. The call to me was not monitored. It is really interesting. And right to the white house, and this is interest, because it is a priority for joe biden and the Biden Administration to get this done. Arlette saenz is there for us, and the response over the last few minutes, arlette . Well, President Biden was celebrating the release of the Five Americans who have been detained in iran for years and saying that they will soon be reunited with the families. And john kirby, the National Spokesman for the National Security said they wont breathe that final sigh of relief until they are back here on the u. S. Soil to be reunited with the families. And one of The Americans had been held in iran for eight years. It marks a moment, and another moment for President Biden where he has secured the release of american detainees or hostages around the world, and think of the deals with venezuela and russia, and of course in the president s statement that he released a moment ago, there is still work to be done in order to return more of The Americans who are currently detained around the world. But in the president s statement, he also noted that he wants to hold iran accountable for bob levinson. Bob levinson is the american who was detained in iran for more than a decade and believed to have died there. In the statement, the president points out that they are issuing new sanctions on iran, and some of them targeting former mahmoud who has been accused of human right abuses. This is going to mark a ton of months of painstaking negotiations. Criticisms from the republican lawmakers and on the 2024 Campaign Trail as people are frustrated with the fact that the u. S. Is unfreezing that 6 billion from the iranian funds transferred now from south korea to qatar. Now the administration insists that these can only be used for humanitarian purposes, and that they will be monitored by the treasury department. Now, the democrats have pushed back saying that deal will be standing up, because the alternative is for these americans never to have come home. Thank you, arlette saenz. We have connected with us jared ginser who is the lawyer representing family of Siamak Namazi. And jared, have you had a chance to connect with siamak and his family, and how are they doing, and he doing . He gave me a call as soon as he came off of the plane, and he said, im finally free and it is an emotional moment for both of us. I have been at this for 7 1 2 year, and not just for siamak, but his father also a hos naj ir hostage, and what he has been through can be told. He spent several years in a cell that was small with no bedding and on a concrete floor and no toilet and going into a bucket, and taken out every day and beaten and tased and lots of horrific things done to him, and that is the begin of the journey, because he was left behind by President Obama in 2016, President Trump left him and his father behind two more times and finally President Biden has gotten the deal done to bring them home, but i am so happy for the family who have become like family to me, and i am so happen fi for all of them to be reunited as a family in so long foin a couple of hours. Jared, i am interested in what you can finally say for what he has endured, but you got the speak to him, and how he sounded, because it is a remarkable moment. Yes, he sounded elated. He sounded elated, and one of the things for me that has been so amazing since this was first announced that it would happen and they were moved to house arrest five or six weeks ago is that for the first time i was able to see siamak on facetime. He had a cell phone given to him by the revolutionary iran corps given to him, and he had a smile on his face, and i have been speaking to him from years in prison and you could tell that it was unbearable pain that he was carrying not just for what happened to him, but extraordinary guilt of his father becoming a prisoner, because he tried to go visit him in jail. This family has been through more than anyone can imagine, and i am so glad that the suffering has come to an end, and obviously, the healing will take a long time, but this is an extraordinary day. And siamaks mother was on the flight with him, and christiane was talking about the courage that she has had throughout this many years. I mean, talk to us now about what you can speak more freely about and siamak has tried to convey what he has endured in his time. Yeah. I mean, it is not something that most people can actually imagine, because we are just incapable of understanding things that are outside of our frame of reference. You cant understand the inhumanity and cruelty of the Iranian Revolution guards not only to the american hostage, but to their own people on a gross and widespread and systemic scale. There is nothing that they wont do. One of the worst things that they did to siamak is not physically touching him, but after his father was a hostage and his father taken custody at the airport, a couple of weeks they came in and told him that his father had died of a heart attack, and told him that they could not let him out to bury him, and then came back a week later to say, they lie and he is okay. How is the family today . Extraordinary. To imagine them all being able to hug for first time. We didnt know if emad sharghi would be alive. Even the iranian governments own doctors felt compelled to let him out, because they were afraid to let him go, because they were afraid that he could not leave because his sentence was commuted, and now that he is
