We have break news and dramatic developments in the search for the convicted killer who is now armed. Moments ago we learned that Danelo Cavalcante stole a. 22 caliber rifle with a scope and a mounted flashlight from a pennsylvania garage, and stole it from the home overnight, and the resident actually fired on him as cavalcante ran away. And at 10 10 p. M. A call was received from a resident on Coventry Road indicating a short hispanic male, no shirt and wearing dark pants had entered his garage while the homeowner was in it, and that he grabbed a. 22 rifle leaning in the garage and the homeowner drew a pistol and fired at cavalcante, and we have no reason to believe he is injured because of the shooting. The homeowner fired several shots, but we dont believe he was injured. Throughout the night, the officials are Issuing Warnings for the residents to tell people to stay inside and make sure that everything they own is locked. Now to cnn and Danny Freeman who is following developments. And danny, not much has changed in the last few minutes, but what has changed is that he is now arm and more dangerous than when the police were first starting to search for him. And what can you tell us and what stood out when you were listening to the Press Conference . That is right, sara. Arm and extremely dangerous, and you can see the urgency reflected out here on scene. We are at the intersection of State Route 23 and State Route 100 and the northern most edge of the new tight perimeter that Law Enforcement has put together overnight and into the morning after the two sightings that we learned about in more detail at the Press Conference, and before i get to the details of the Press Conference, we have been seeing that tremendous show of force, and horses coming through on trailers and heavily armored veeck vehicles with the officers in fatigues, and a tremendous amount of armed officers. And that was just yesterday when it was a quiet day when it came to the search, but then according to the state police a woman who was driving car in the area where cavalcante ditched that stolen van, and he has not gone far from that ditched van, and she saw someone running, and then they discovered the prison shoes is, and also a pair of the working boots had been stolen from a nearby residents home as well. Then we learned the big news that at 10 10 p. M. , and after the police swarmed the area, and they found the footprints they realized and they got a call that cavalcante, they believe, he entered into the open garage, and saw a rifle sitting there, and stole the rifle which had a scope on it, and the flashlight and the owner of the home, and the resident there, he saw cavalcante and took out his firearm and started firing, but he did not injure him as as far as they can tell. The Response Time was within minutes, but he was gone as the night fell. I wanted to emphasize what the police have stated, that area, a ton of the Police Officers have been out there all last night, and even before the sightings, and media has been out there as well, and still cavalcante was able to slip into the densely wooded area around these homes. The other thing that i will note is that Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens says that cavalcante knows this area, and he has been in this area before, and that is brandnew information. And we heard that he had gone to phoenixville and another spot to try to go to meet up with old acquaint acquaintances, and those made sense, but in this area where he dropped off the van, it was seemingly a random place for him to drop it off in a sleepy community, but now we know that cavalcante knows the community and knows where he is and been there before. And sarah, i think it is kate who mentioned the last hour, a different tone in the Press Conference and certainly urgency, but the Lieutenant Colonel there appearing more defensive of the operation, and he is saying, listen, we have had a needle in the Haystack Operation here in terms of what we have searched for, but we have located the needle several time, and nothing has gone wrong, but it is day 13, and cavalcante was seen twice in the past 12 hours or so, and still no capture. Danny freeman, thank you for going through the important details that we have learned in the last few minutes. Danny is on the ground and part of the perimeter of the search area, and he is going to be keeping us updated as the things develop. I want to go over the brian todd who was there in the Press Conference that we heard all of the developments. I think that we might have an issue with do we have brian . Okay. We spoke to Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens shortly after the News Conference and to add to what danny has been reporting is that we know that Danelo Cavalcante is carrying around a. 22 caliber rifle with a scope and flashlight, and that is a key piece of information that we have gotten from the overnight developments and one of the key pieces of information and this a chunk of the postconference interview with Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens. And are you concerned about the suicide by cop, and it is going to be a violent ending and he would not want to go back to prison . It is a possibility. It is a possibility that he will try to attack the police to try to get away or attack a civilian or suicide by cop, and any of those scenarios are possibilities and our people are trained to deal with it, and he has been dangerous from the start, and it does not change anything in term of the tactics and the equipment and so forth that we are utilizing. And i maintain a high level of confidence that we will maintain this perimeter an search and i anticipate that we will find him in there, and all i can tell you is that we will do our absolute best. We will capture him one way or anot another. Reporter he has said that Danelo Cavalcante has been in the area before. To recap the sequence of events that we learned this morning. Last night, the First Sighting was by a female motorist who saw him crouched on the side of the road, and she saw him and drove back, and by the time she got back according to the Lieutenant Colonel, he was gone, and think did find his shoes all right. Brian todd, we lost his connection, and he has done great work to speak to the Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens who gave us that information that Danelo Cavalcante is armed with a. 22 caliber rifle about 20 miles north of the prison that he broke out of 13 days ago. And now we bring in andy mccabe, formerly of the fbi, and now, to hear that nothing has changed for them, but it seems very much more urgent now that cavalcante is armed. It is absolutely more urgent, john. I totally identify with Lieutenant Colonel, and he is trying to send a very consistent message, and certainly the folks on the ground, the objective has not changed, and they have been concerned about this cavalcante being dangerous from the beginning. They will continue to be careful, but think about how if you are on one of the tactical team, and walking through this heavily wooded area, and hard to see in the best circumstances, and you are thinking to yourself, now a guy that i have been looking for, for a few days, and now i know for a fact that he has the ability to fire upon me before i can ever see any trace of him with a. 22 rifle and a scope, and he could, if he is a decent marksman, he could fire accurately on officers from 50 yards away or maybe 100 yards away. So that is going to impact the way that the searchers on the ground think about the tasks that they are going through and protecting themselves. You are already seeing it impacting the decisions is of what sorts of resources that they need. You will see more Armored Vehicles like mraps and bearcats and other vehicles that are common in Law Enforcement departments, and that is because we want to keep the officers safe while they do their work. You have brought out the things that can be used and have been used such as aviation and canines and all of the officers in many, many different areas. How long might this go on, because you have a sense that things have changed and even though we are doing it tactically, and things have changed and the man is now armed and he has been running for 13 days and probably getting more and more desperate, but you seen the cases like this, and could it end tomorrow or today or could this go on for a really long time . Well, it could end in ten minute, but it does not end until he is in custody. So we have seen the movie before, and Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens has seen the movie before as his team. I go back to 2014, and andy mccabe will remember this when he was in the fbi and i was in the nypd, but there was a domestic terrorist in opinion, eric frein and he disappeared in the woods. Well, it is a really important point, kate. That is to the heart of why cavalcante is located in the area that he is in. This not new for fugitive hunts, because they typically gravitate to the areas where they have been before and where family and relatives and contacts are located. That is what he has done. He has gotten transportation, and drove 25 north and west towards phoenixville, and East Pikeland and now of course nantmeal, and these are the places where he knows and feels like he is on stronger ground there and has the opportunity to make contact with the people who he thinks can help him, provide him with the resources he needs whether it is money, food, clothes, transportation or whatever. So, Law Enforcement has a delicate role the play here. They want to constantly be messaging to the universe of associates and family members, hey, if you hear from him, and if he reaches out the you, Do The Right Thing and call us. Dont help him, and help us to find him and bring it to a peaceful end. That is what happened with the first Ring Doorbell connect on saturday evening. That person confirmed the video and then called Law Enforcement, and happened with the second person who he reached out to that night, and that persons friend reached out to Law Enforcement. They want to keep that going, because it is helpful leads. His sister was apparently a Removable Illegal Alien and she can be deported at any time, and it does not surprise me that she would be approached to cooperate with Law Enforcement, and she doesnt, so she goes. And the House Republicans are to be saying it is the logical next step into the gop probes. He is under extreme pressure to get this done, and even some hardliners threatening to go after his job, and it is not the only issue he is juggling. And lauren, does he have the support that he needs for Kevin Mccarthy to launch the formal impeachment, because not everybody in the party is down with this . Yes, sara, the attention in the republican conference is going to be in the days and weeks ahead, because despite the fact that a large number of republicans in the conference do support moving forward with Impeachment Inquiry arguing that it would em bold epp them to get more documents and requests into the quests of President Joe Biden and son hunter biden, some republican members in Swing Districts dont believe it is the appropriate step, and that the committee has not gathered enough information and that the oversight could continue to do work without launching formal Impeachment Inquiry, and yes, it is preliminary step, but once you open up that inquiry, it is very hard not to eventually move forward with impeaching President Joe Biden, and so Kevin Mccarthy has been trying to argue to the members on the fence, that it is a preliminary step, and baby step, and yet, it is still going to be a very difficult vote for some of the members in Swing Districts. So, no, he does not have the votes that he needs right now, but he is expected in the thursday meeting with the republican conference to make it clear that this is the logical next step. Now, this is happening in a broader context, because House Republicans are still struggling to find a path forward to fund the government after september 30th. There are a number of republicans who have argued that they want their support for any government funding bill, and even a shortterm bill to be contingent upon opening up this impeachment hearing, and so there is a lot happening up here, and Kevin Mccarthy is expected to address the supporters in a few minutes. To pass that, if the republicans want to throw Speaker Mccarthy out of the job, in theory, they would have to actually get the democratic votes to do that. If there is a motion to vacate, will you vote to toss House Speaker Kevin Mccarthy . Clearly, this nation and certainly the Congress Deserves a strong speaker. Kevin mccarthy is proving since he is bending over to the extreme maga caucus that he is not governing, and he needs to stand tall, and we have things do here, and we have a government that needs to be funded. Tend of the month is the end of the fiscal year, and the Appropriation Bills are not movingsh moving. They are in the senate, thankfully, and three months ago we negotiated as part of the debt ceiling a solution to this, a majority of 300 or so members of the house of representatives, and a majority of the senate voted for a funding deal. And here we are just three months later with Kevin Mccarthy unable to control his caucus. He has to stand tall. Th then if he fails to stand tall, then he will be removed. Will i or any democrat vote for him, no, i dont think so. So no lifeline for Kevin Mccarthy, your fellow congressman from california . For what purpose . Chaotic leadership . And who else would you get if it is not Kevin Mccarthy . Well, lets find out, what are the options . Maybe there is a compromise, and we need a democrat, and we need five votes, and when we have a democratic speaker, and five republicans come over to join us, and certainly there are five repub republicans who are sane, and we know there are 12 who are crazy. And so it is not likely to end up with a democratic speaker, but we know that you are looking at the north korean dictator kim jongun meeting with Vladimir Putin and they are working out a arms deal, and providing arms to Vladimir Putin for the war against ukraine, but he is talk about donald trump in the prosecutions here in the United States, and putin said this morning that all that is happening with trump is the persecution of a political rival for political reasons, and this is done in front of the public of the United States and the whole world.
