The tomb of the unknown warrior. Now at any moment hes set to be arriving at Clarence House to join Prince Charles and wife camilla for the most british of british events possible, a proper tea. State visits like these, thats the entrance of Clarence House were looking at and well bring you the live moments as they come, as the president has just left, leaving Westminster Abbey. We see Prince Charles and the duchess of cornwall walking out now. They will be greeting obviously the president and the first lady as they arrive. These state visits, though, these are close relationships, symbolize the close relationship between two nations. And were seeing that on display right now. Lets watch. Lets listen. As we see it appears the president and the first lady arriving for the next of the events during this state visit. Arriving at the Clarence House, at Clarence House, to meet the prince of wales and the duchess of cornwall. Not that were going to hear much, but lets just listen for one second to see if there is something. Standing by. Prince of wales and duchess of cornwall waiting there to welcome oh. All right. In they go. Lets see what happens next. Thats the president and first lady heading into Clarence House. Let me bring in max foster. Hes been following all of it, ticking through all of the highlights and the schedule is tight. Theyre keeping tight with this schedule, max. But as you see, off to the next step, into clarnence house this morning. A lot to fit in. The schedule really is packed. It was put together by the british side, according to a uk official, and the white house didnt tinker with it at all, so this is all as planned. They have gone into Clarence House, the London Residence of the prince of wales, just around the corner from Buckingham Palace. The whole area has been closed down from traffic so theyre able to move around very quickly indeed. We are due to get another photo opportunity within Clarence House, which is this quite countrified mansion, really, in central london. Surrounded by lovely gardens, grated by the prince of wales, and theyll sit down, have tea, which is an utter nightmare for anyone not associated with the practice here in the uk. Theres all this tension around whether or not you should put the milk in first or the tea first or if youre allowed to use sugar, when you eat the cakes. What i will say is the duchess of cornwall is brilliant in these situations. She dissipates pressure in these moments. Shes a country girl at heart so she doesnt have much time for these sort of urban habits either. So i think shell calm things down, and theyll sit down, have a conversation. What would be fascinating is to be a fly on the wall, kate. Because prince of wales feels very, very strongly about certain issues. Religious tolerance and Climate Change are the two key ones. And obviously, President Trump is on the other end of the arguments. Fascinating to see whether or not Prince Charles brings it up. He can do it before hes monarch, at which point he has to be impartial. This is a bit of an opportunity for him. I cant let you go. Its funny. I always delight in how difficult it is. But it is also quite serious. These visits are all about protocol and etiquette. When it comes to a proper british tea, that is the definition of protocol and etiquette. The president met, had tea with the queen, during his last visit. Is the protocol any different when youre meeting with the heir to the throne . Well, you know, its probably a bit more relaxed. Youre not actually sort of more relaxed you have to throw up in air quotes, i think here. I mean, the one thing i would say about these teas is you dont know quite how to tackle it because you have a stack of various things to eat on the plate. If you go really traditional, you have hot plates coming out as well. I dont know whether theyre doing that today. If you get nervous about it, its so telling because youre holding this fine china and it rattles and its very easy to spill as well. Its a horribly stressful situation. If ever i get nervous, i dont drink the tea, i eat the cakes. I feel like max foster is speaking from experience on that one. Thanks, max. A fascinating moment. Then the big event sorry, carry on. Its also, and i find it unusual that were even going to see anything from inside. You said theres going to be another photo opportunity. Yeah, i think theyll be standing by a fireplace or something. You wont actually see them eating the tea. They dont let us film royals generally eating. Thats one of the protocols here. So donald trump gets off lightly on that side. All right. Max, please stick with us. We need you as we walk through these events. Well bring more of these events when that photo opportunity comes, well bring it as well. Max is standing by. Abby phillip is joining me now. Shes been traveling with the president. The state visits are used always, abby, as a moment to symbolize the close relationship between two nations. This relationship between President Trump and the uk, though, a more complicated than most when it comes to the special relationship. And that is look no further to see the evidence of that than comments that the president made basically almost as he was landing on uk soil in another back and forth with the mayor of london. And responding to old remarks from, what, two plus years ago from the duchess of sussex. Whats going on here . Theres never any shortage of drama, is there, kate, with this president . But particularly it seems when he comes over to the uk, theres always something that happens, and in this case, some of the drama happened before he even touched down on british soil. Over the weekend, he did that interview with the british tabloid, the sun, in which he called Meghan Markle nasty and then proceeded to deny that he called her that, even though his voice is recorded on an audiotape saying just that. And then over the weekend, the london mayor sadiq khan was criticizing President Trumps politics saying he disagreed with his rightwing politics, that he did not in sadiq khans view, stand up for American Values, but President Trump took it a step further, sending a tweet timed perfectly for just minutes before he touched down in an airport near london, and he called sadiq khan a stone cold loser. He said he reminds him of the very dumb and incompetent new york city mayor thats bill de blasio, and then President Trump criticized his height. So kate, this is clearly one of those visits in which President Trump even though it could have been just pomp and circumstance, he clearly went into it eager for a fight on some of these political fronts. But i think going a little bit perhaps too far for some in criticizing the duchess of sussex, Meghan Markle, for comments she made years ago, and then having to, you know, be in the presence of her husband, prince harry, at Buckingham Palace earlier today. So the tea is going to be awkward, perhaps, and tense for all kinds of moments, but not in the least because President Trump has, i think, made it quite stressful and difficult in the leadup to this moment. So far, though, everything seems to have been going well from a ceremonial perspective. The question is will President Trump let all of this go as this visit continues forward, or will he perhaps invite even more controversy as he starts to delve even further into british politics as the visit goes on tomorrow where some of these more political events are happening, with theresa may, the outgoing Prime Minister and potential other visits with some of the people who are trying to replace her. A great point, abby. Great to see you. Mouch more to come as were looking at some of the pictures from earlier this morning, as the president and first lady are now at Clarence House, beginning their tea with Prince Charles and camilla. Thanks so much. Joining me now for much more is cnn chief International Correspondent clarissa ward, and president ial historian douglas brinkley. Clarissa, this visit comes also as such a tumultuous time for the uk. It cannot be overstated how tense the situation is there politically. What do you think could come looking ahead past todays events even, looking ahead to the meeting tomorrow of the president and the outgoing Prime Minister, theresa may, and also this big question that still is lingering out there of whether or not he plans to meet with some of the Prime Ministers archrivals . I think thats the real question, kate. Everyone has been watching today with a degree of relief after the runup to the trip, there were all sorts of, you know, scandals surrounding his comments about Meghan Markle, surrounding his comments in the sunday times about theresa may and boris johnson. Today, largely, has gone smoothly. Its been a day of pomp and circumstance. And pageantry. And he has carried himself in the way that one would expect a u. S. President to carry themselves. The concern becomes tomorrow. Thats when we get into the political events. As you say, the United Kingdom right now is in a state of political turmoil. It is looking down the barrel at a very uncertain future. It does not know exactly it will exit the european union, so precisely because of that, this is a moment where the uk really needs to consolidate and cement all the alliances like of course the special relationship between the u. S. And uk. And the special relationship, kate, has come under a lot of pressure since President Trump took office. There have been major areas of disagreement, and fewer areas of commonality. So actually, tomorrow, i would expect politicians to sort of bend over backwards to avoid President Trump going off piece, going off script, and sort of digging his you know, digging his oar into the political process. And really trying to underscore some of the commonalities between these two countries, because ultimately, that is the purpose of this state visit, and in this moment, the United Kingdom needs its ally more than it has in quite some time, particularly when it comes to looking to negotiating a bilateral trade agreement with the u. S. Great point. Doug brinkley is here as well. Thats tomorrow, right, doug . Today, so much of any state visit is pomp and ceremony. Lets be honest, this, that is what President Trump likes. And that is what he is very good at. Well, yeah. We just saw the president come off of a trip to japan where he ate kobe beef and watched wrestling and everybody honored and bowed to him, and he absolutely loved that. Hes enjoying being feted in london right now. What creates a disparity, something that is discordant, is here he lands in london and disses on the mayor, who represents the people of london. At the same time hes being very careful not to spill a tea cup. So its, where the pomp and circumstance part is going all right, the politics, what could be more gauche that twitter when youre trying to deal with something as rich as British Heritage that we have been witnessing in places like Westminster Abbey and the like . But donald trump hasnt made any mistakes yet. Jimmy carter in 1977 famously kissed Queen Elizabeth ii on the lips, and she like backed off and later said it was creepy. Nobody had done that since her husband had died. And so donald trump hasnt done something thats going to be talked about decades later yet on this visit. But that tweet that he did about the mayor of london is going to live on. Yeah. Clarissa, the president , President Trump is dishing it out, if you will, as hes landing on uk soil. He was responding to a column written by sadiq khan. The president asked in an interview about comments Meghan Markle had made, the duchess of sussex, in years past. And he goes after her. I mean, you know, what the president said about them, not at all diplomatic, but they surely, in those remarks, werent holding back either. Does that color it does from the outside looking in, but how does that color kind of how this whole state visit is going to play out . Well, i think its important for our viewers to remember that this state visit has been talked about now for two years. And for two years, Prime Minister may has found herself battling whether its political factions, whether its ordinary british citizens, but a lot of people in the United Kingdom who dont have time for President Trump, dont feel he reflects American Values or shared values with the United Kingdom, and dont think he should be extended the honor of a state visit. This is a common view amid with many, many people in the uk. So in a sense, sadiq khan, the london mayor, was really speaking to that. Having said that, it is, of course, a highly, highly unusual step for a mayor of london to speak out in a public forum just 24 hours before the president of the United States of america arrives in the uk. Comparing him to the worst fascists of the 20th century. Obviously, were in something of uncharted territory here, and you know, this is something that people are just becoming used to at this stage. You mention also all these barbs and tweets and slights that the president engaged in before coming here. The reaction here in the uk, honestly, kate, to much of this, has been water off a ducks back. There is outrage fatigue here. People can no longer twist themselves into pretzels convulsing over every single slight and barb and tweet, because they have become so commonplace that people are almost used to it. It will be very interesting to see just how large the protests are tomorrow that are scheduled. You remember a year ago, there were huge, huge protests. I wonder if there will be quite the same turnout tomorrow as people seem to just shrug their shoulders at this stage and say well, thats the president. Abstlutly. Interesting to see. Thanks so much. Really appreciate it. Coming up for us right now, coming up for us shortly, the gloves are officially off, as the democratic president ial candidates no longer are holding back when it comes to the democratic frontrunner, joe biden. So why now . And is this new tactic, if you will, working . Plus, the president s soninlaw Jared Kushner sits down for a rare interview and we may now know why those interviews are so rare. And theres no looking back, because i am cured. Talk to your doctor about mavyret. It is a pretty straightforward question, but the answer was anything but. In a new interview with axios, the president s soninlaw, Jared Kushner, was asked whether the president s pushing of the Conspiracy Theory for so long, if that was racist. Heres how kushner responded. Was birtherism racist . Um, look, i wasnt really involved in that. I know you werent. Was it racist . Like i said, i wasnt involved in that. I know you werent. Was it racist . Look, i know who the president is. I have not seen anything in him that is racist. So again, i was not involved in that. Did you wish he didnt do that . Like i said, i was not involved in that. That was a long time ago. And that is not all that he said that deserves attention. Here with me right now, Cnn National Security analyst, former Senior Adviser under president obama, samantha vinograd, and aaron donald, who advised both parties on middle east policy. Sam, lets get to this one first. You worked for president obama. You were in working in the obama white house. When you hear kushner basically say im not going to answer it, is it more of what hes not saying thats the more important answer. He answered the question by not answering the question. He was asked three times whether a policy that is clearly racist is racist, and he was so afraid of getting cross wise with his fatherinlaw that he waffled three times. He said he knows the president and thats why he works for this president. The president didnt stop being racist when he entered the ovalophilus. He now has a largest platform to propagate racist means and rhetoric against minorities. Hes done it consistently throughout his presidency. So while Jared Kushner said he wasnt involved in the birtherism claims that the president made, Jared Kushner is directly involved in the racist policies and rhetoric that President Trump continues to adopt from the oval office. And aaron, you have advised many an administration, many a president. The fact that the Senior Adviser to the president of the United States doesnt have an answer on this, and honestly, i cant believe im going to say it, he doesnt even lie and try to toe the party line of what other officials have said, what does it say to you . Look, the guy has made a career, it seems to me, of saying very little. Particularly in the arab israeli issue where he imposed a degree of radio silence we havent seen. This goes well beyond the Israeli Palestinian issue. This cuts to a vital issue in american politics. After all, this is his fatherinlaw. The notion that Jared Kushner is going to answer this question on National Television or with axios in a way that would attack his fatherinlaw gives kushner a test he cant possibly pass and would never pass. I suspect thats not terribly striking or stunning, frankly, to me. We have much more to get to that i think is also striking and stunning. Sam, another extraordinary moment was when kushner was asked about the infamous june 2016 trump tower meeting. We have talked about this many a time. A trump tower meeting with russians. The intended purpose, as we later found out, of the meeting was to get dirt on hillary clinton. Jared kushner was part of the meeting and he was asked about it. This is what he said. Does it not set off at least some alarm bell when you see an email saying that the russian government wants to help your candidate . Like i said, the email i got on my iphone at the time said show up at 4 00. It had russia in the subject line. Again, i would get about 250 emails a day. I saw show up at 4 00, i showed up at 4 00. Would you call the fbi if it happened again . Its hard to do hypotheticals, but the reality is we were not given anything that was salacious. Heres the thing that kills me on this one. Thats not a hypothetical. Its not a hypothetical. Right. And Jared Kushner just put a for sale sign on his forehead in his interview, hes on television saying he may not call the fbi if a hostile foreign power contacts him. That sends a message to russia and any foreign actor Jared Kushner may be open for business as part of the 2020 campaign cycle. This should have been a softball question. He may have said he was naive in 2016. Hes had a year and a half of intelligence briefings, counterintelligence briefings, and the Mueller Report that lays out all of russias tools, and also, he has a skeerns clearance. As a security clearance holder, if a hostile foreign power emails you, you have to contact the fbi. You as government officials have been investigated for failing to report that kind of contact to the fbi, and jeras kushner unfortunately has a security clearance and is saying he wouldnt take the same posture. Yet, theres more, and i want to get your take on this, because one very issue that is not a past issue. Its a current issue, for the president , for Jared Kushner is in charge of, is middle east peace. I want you to listen, i want our viewers to listen to what he said about middle east peace. Do you believe that the palestinians are capable of governing themselves without israeli interference . I think thats a very good question. I think that thats one that well have to see. The hope is that they over time can become capable of governing. And at the same time, the secretary of state told a group of jewish leaders in a closeddoor meeting that the kushner plan was quote unquote very detailed. One might argue unexecutable. Those were mike pompeos words. What do you do with all this . When youthis, aaron, what do you do . The first time i met Jared Kushner, i said i wish my fatherinlaw had as much confidence in me as his has in him. Because hes given him mission impossible. The issue is not whether or not the kushner plan will work. It cant work under any circumstances. The question is how much worse, the hippocratic oath, above all, do no harm, and it seems to me the administration is not going to make the situation better, its going to make it work. Insulting the palestinians, lets be clear, the Palestinian Authority is pretty dysfunctional and hamas and fatah represent kind of noahs ark where there are two of everything, but insulting the palestinians, very constituency that presumably you want to appeal to in the deal of the century, the ultimate deal, is simply dump. Frankly, they have been waging a preter natural economic war against the palestinians on one side, giving them all the vinegar and providing the israelis with most of the honey on the other. The real question to me is whether or not this has anything to do with starting negotiations. Or whether or not its an effort to reframe american policy. That will essentially make it virtually impossible for successor administrations to return to the least bad solution to this problem, which is two states. All right. I think we have a little more to talk about that. Aaron, thank you so much. Sam, great to have you. Thank you guys so much. Right now, President Trump is having tea with Prince Charles. This is Clarence House is where President Trump, the first lady, and oh, i think were going to be getting those pictures in. When we get them, well show them to you. The president and Melania Trump meeting with Prince Charles and camilla, meeting at Clarence House. I still have no confirmation of what was on the floor that the prince had to pick up. I know thats a burning question in your minds. Theyre going to do a quick photo op before they head into the formal tea theyll be sitting down for. The president with the future king. So, the president is getting the royal treatment, of course. Hes meeting there, and joining the president during the state visit, which has been a long time coming. Two years in the making, are his family. And all the finishing touches are being made, after right now for tonights main event, which is a state banquet at Buckingham Palace. Joining the president , on the state visit, are all of his adult children, making this truly an extraordinary family affair. Cnns White House Reporter kate bennett is standing by at Buckingham Palace. You have been doing great reporting on kind of the pressure that first latdy Melania Trump has felt ahead of this two years in the making visit. And everything that were seeing play out. Right. And i mean, she met the queen last summer with the president. They had tea at windsor, but thats nothing like a state banquet at Buckingham Palace. Shes been planning, attending protocol meetings with her staff to make sure she gets everything right. When youre involved with the royal family and all the pomp and circumstance and titles and orders of things, this is something that Melania Trump pays very close attention to, even if her husband might not. And certainly, the queen of england has met first ladies going back to jackie kennedy, and notoriously first ladies get a little nervous around the queen. Michelle obama, of course, tells the story about putting her arm around her, which is sort of a protocol faux pas. She said they were commiserating about wearing high heels all day, but betty ford found herself calling her her highness instead of her majesty. Barbara bush was worried because she asked the queen a question and wasnt sure if you were supposed to ask the queen a question. These are certainly moments for first ladies whose job already is sort of so nebulous. Theres no defined Job Description for the United States first lady. Theres nothing definitive shes supposed to do. Theres no salary. Theres sort of, its very what each one makes of it. For these moments, Melania Trump becomes very by the book. She becomes very she brushes up on her facts. She makes sure the gifts that are given are very sentimental and have purpose. Im telling you, this hat, this outfit shes wearing today, shes been planning for a long time. Thats a custom dress and a custom hat, and im sure whatever we see her in tonight at the ball, the banquet, will also be special. These are things she thinks about a couple months in advance at least. Absolutely. Great to see you, kate. Great reporting. For much more on this, royal commentator victoria arbiter is with me, and author sally smith. Victoria, lets talk about the tea happening right now. What is happening . I was having fun with max foster earlier about it because i know i would completely mess this up, thank goodness im not in the room, even though i would pay a lot of money to be in the room. What is happening inside Clarence House when the president is sitting down with the prince of wales . He sat down with the queen for tea. Is protocol different when youre sitting down with the heir to the throne . It really isnt. So much has been made of protocol, and really its there to offer guidelines, to tell people, to give people an idea of what to expect. But if something goes wrong, its not going to be a big issue. Its quite interesting because last year on this working visit to the uk, trump was much maligned for supposedly breaking protocol because he didnt bow to the queen. Foreign heads of state dont bow to each other. It would also suggest he kept the queen waiting. He didnt. She was early or something. She was early. I think the fact she glanced at her watch made everyone think hes late, hes messed up again. He didnt. He was on time. In situations like today, i think we can see that donald trump clearly wants to do very well by the royal family. Its really the only instance in which i have seen him ever be deferential. Hes had public disputes with the london mayor, public disputes with theresa may, but as far as the queen goes and now by extension Prince Charles, he seems to be doing reasonably well. We still have time. We have the state banquet this evening, but anything can go wrong for anybody. When obama attended his banquet, he started talking as soon as the anthem started playing. At the end of the day, everybody is human, mistakes are okay. What would be most interesting behind closed doors is not whether or not hes drinking his tea in the right conversation, but what Climate Conversations are going on. On that point, Prince Charles has really been much more front and center this visit so far. He greeted President Trump when they landed at Buckingham Palace. He walks him through the review of the guard, now the formal tea. What do you think it means that charles is taking a lot of the lead so far in this visit . In many ways, Prince Charles has been pushed forward more, particularly with the retirement of the duke of edinburgh a couple years ago. But one amusing thing today, which people probably dont really know this, but back in 1988, when charles was in palm beach for a charity polo event, donald trump gave him tea at maralago. And he was very involved in all the events. It was for a Conservation Charity that meant a lot to Prince Charles. So this is not the first time they have had tea together. And in fact, the last time they had tea together, it was donald trump and his thenwife ivana, who were the hosts. That is fascinating, sally. How the tables have turned slightly or maybe not that much, actually. So victoria, then, the main event, the big event is the state dinner this evening. Can you lay out the importance of it . And the ceremony and kind of, it is a beautiful thing to see in the moments we do see. It really is. Today, we have seen the finest pomp and pageantry the british have to offer, and yes, it is a big show, and yes, donald trump responds to a big show particularly in his honor. But it goes much further than that. These types of events are laid on to really further britains interests, and to solidify, to reaffirm that special relationship. So tonight, were going to see the finest in royal hospitality. When they set up these state banquets, theyre taking rulers to measure the distance between the chairs and table. Nothing is left to chance. The queen will come in and oversee everything before her guests of honor arrive. Shes been known to move the flowers, she doesnt miss a beat. But donald trump will have a chance to make a short speech. Hell toast the queen as she will have done the same beforehand. Tiaras from the royals present, and the finest in British Society and also a number of americans that are living in the uk that they are considered important enough to invite to this event. About 150 people there, it will be a lavish affair, and really, it will be, i think, probably of this threeday visit, the most lavish of everything. I do want to ask you, before we even get there, sally, lets talk still about this tea. Victoria touched on it, which there are many there may be many difference in views between Prince Charles and President Trump, but maybe no so than their views on Climate Change. A cause the prince has been fighting for years, but when it comes to Climate Change, President Trump has called it a hoax, and he kind of often links it to weather patterns. How would Prince Charles bring up an issue like this . How could this go . Well, i suppose he could bring it up delicately. One pattern in the way charles has behaved in the last few years, as hes approached his time in taking the throne is that he has been much less controversial in his public statements. He made his views known and has made them known very, very clearly over the years. He was an early, early he offered early, early warnings on Climate Change, on threats to the environment such as from plastics, which is, i think, everybody can agree now. Maybe that will even come up in his agenda today with donald trump. That the spread of plastics and ruining our oceans, things like that. There are other things he could address that may not be any kind of a direct confrontational situation. You know, so i think it will probably be more like that. We have to remember that not so long ago, back in 2005 and previously in 2009, he refused to go to two state banquets honoring chinese president s. He refused to shake the hand of one chinese president because of the mistreatment of the dalai lama and the tibetans. Hes much more muted. Hes getting prepared for the role that he will assume, which in the wonderful phrase is called the light above politics. Hes obviously free to voice his views now. But hes not doing it in so forthright a way. As we all keep saying, oh, to be a fly on the wall. One thing that is unique about President Trump, though, is things that happen in private quite often eventually he does tip his hand publicly, so lets see if any of that comes out after this. Regardless, thank you for being here. Really appreciate it. Coming up for us, the knives come out for former Vice President joe biden, but not from President Trump. If you thought this president ial primary season would be all kumbaya, as democrats link arms to defeat donald trump, think again. The knives are starting to come out, at least when it comes to the current frontrunner on the democratic side, joe biden. The former Vice President , he skipped the California DemocraticParty Convention over the weekend. Instead, headlining a Human Rights Campaign dinner in ohio, and his opponents, they surely took note. Though not calling him out by name. Listen. As you all know, there is a debate among president ial candidates who have spoken to you here in this room and those who have chosen for whatever reason not to be in this room. Some say if we all just calm down, the republicans will come to their senses. But our country is in a time of crisis. The time for small ideas is over. Democrats can no more keep a promise to take us back to the 2000s and the 1990s than conservatives can keep a promise to take us back to the 1950s. We can only look forward. I want to bring in kate, theres one for that. The first democratic debate in a week or so at the end of june, and thats where all of the democrats are finally going to be on stage together on backtoback evenings because theres so many of them, but what they are trying to do now is try out a couple of themes about going after the frontrunner. We should say this up front. They would all love to be in joe bidens position. They would all love to be the frontrunner. They would all love to be out there sort of driving the conversation and talking not about joe biden. What they are trying to do is use him as a way to sort of elevate themselves. Like pete buttigieg, for example, talking about going forward, you know, a new generation of leadership, Elizabeth Warren talking about, you know, big ideas, not small ideas and, of course, Bernie Sanders there as well. Kate, envy and jealousy is also alive in politics. They are trying to get some of joe bidens glow, if you will, all leading up to that big debate at the end of june. Kate . Absolutely right. Great to see you, jeff. Lets see whoever starts adding in and calling him by name, he who shall not be named, the democratic frontrunner. Great to see you, man. On the republican side this morning, the big question is will there be another challenger to President Trump in 2020 other than former governor bill well . Marylands governor larry hogan announced he would not be one of those. There was a lot of speculation if he would run against the president in a republican primary and hes definitively said he will not. Joining me now is former Ohio Governor and cnn braintree split call commentator governor john kasich. Good to see you, governor. Before we go, i have to tell you a good story about Prince Charles. My wife and i went to the bush funeral, listen, we went to the bush funeral, very cold in the cathedral, and there were a myriad of politicians that wanted to say hi. My wife is having all these people come birks and when the service ended she wanted to get out of the cathedral and into the bus so she could be warm, and i said to her on the way out, hey, look, theres theres brian mulroney, the former Prime Minister of canada, and he these with Prince Charles, come over. Well meet Prince Charles and thought i said Vince Charles and went over to meet Prince Charles, i said, wife, karen, sweetheart, for a person that loves the royal family so much, you missed out on meeting Prince Charles. What were you thinking . She said, john, i thought you said Vince Charles, not Prince Charles. So weve been laughing about that since it happened, and it was great. My wife, shes the best, and that one is a great story. We know that your wife is the best, and i would like to see how much she loved when you decided to tell that story on National Television. Im going to check in with her later on that. I dont know what shes going to say. Hopefully i can still have dinner tonight. Well see. But shes wonderful. You call me and tell me. Now back to politics. Less on the monarchy, more on the democracy. I have asked you about governor larry hogan before, and yeah. On his decisionmaking process. Does his decision that he will not be running against donald trump in a republican primary, does it impact your decisionmaking as youve long said all options are on the table . Not in the least. On friday i was on and right now i saw no path, but that doesnt mean there wont be a path tomorrow. All my options remain on the table, and frankly i have a base out there, a base of people who contact us all the time, wanting me to run. Larry hogan had no base. Hes just out kind of testing the waters, so for me what he does or what anybody else does doesnt matter, but ive said all along if there isnt a path, then it doesnt make any sense. Right. But talk me through that. But that couldnt mean there wont be a path tomorrow. Senard. If theres not a path today what, opens up a path tomorrow . Like i hear you when you say right now theres not a path, but youre not telling me definitively youre out. Youre a no. No, im not saying that. All my options are on the table, and when youre asking me what could change . What, are you kidding me . Every day theres something that happens that could change. You just dont know whats going to happen with this guy. Is it something that needs to convince you to run, or is it something that would need to convince you not to get in the race . No. I think ive said, you know, what it is that i have to say, and that is i look at the situation. If i can help this country then i want to do it, but right now as ive said, i dont think that there is a path, but that doesnt mean that tomorrow there wont be a pass, so, again, all my options remain on the table. Okay. Were going to keep watching the table. Let me ask you about something that remains on the table and trying for a transition when it comes to democrats in congress. Theres a new cnn poll out about the issue of impeachment and the president , and it does show an uptick in americans saying the president should be impeached, 41 now versus it was at 37 last month. I mean, obviously can you still see the majority still oppose or are opposed to the idea of impeachment at this point, and then there is this. I want to play for you from congressman jim clyburn who was on cnn just yesterday. We do believe that if we sufficiently, effectively educate the public, then we will have done our job to make a move on an impeachment vote. Sounds like you think that the president will be impeached or at least proceedings will begin in the house at some point but just not right now. Yes, thats exactly what i feel. I mean, how long do you think nancy pelosi can hold off launching impeachment proceed federal government that is how the number three democrat in the house is putting it . Well, you know, look, shes shes in charge there, but its interesting. Theres 41 of the country that wants impeachment and my crack staff put something together n. September of 2018, 7 wanted it. A number thats gone down. Not anything that will happen democrats. I watched interestingly enough had the convention out in california. If youre not hard left out there, they boo you. They booed my buddy John Hickenlooper because he said he doesnt like socialism. What are they attacking biden, because hes way ahead and they are trying to get him to Say Something or do something that will hurt himself. The bulk of the democratic party, the bulk of america, republican party, center right and center left, and if you go too far left or you spend your time on impeachment, the average joe the average man and woman in america, they want to know about their healthcare and why their costs are going up. They want to know about am i going to keep my job . They want to know in this era of all this economic change, am i going to be able to have a job for a significant period of time . They are worried about income inequality. These are the things they are worried about. You talk about impeachment, their eyes glaze over. They dont care about that. They care about their lives and the meaning of their lives and the things that matter for them and their kids. Thats definitely something that you can almost see the struggle in even how nancy please talks about it, because you know how shes been saying and trying it seems difficult for even the democrats would say, have said it over and over again, that walking and chewing gum at the same time is even possible when the issue is either the walking or the chewing of the gum is impeachment. It seems like no matter what it seems impossible youd be able to have any other conversation once that launched, and thats a really big question right now. Governor, good to see you. Thanks for coming in. Want to check in with his wife though to see if hes having dinner tonight. Coming up for us, the uk is rolling out the red carpet for President Trump and the first lady. Our live coverage continues right after this. Welcome to inside politics. Im john king. Thank you for sharing your day with us. President trump is enjoying a state visit to britain. Todays vip treatment included an 82gun salute, time with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace and tea with Prince Charles. Plus, it would not be a trump trip without controversy. There are protests in the streets of london. The president swaps insults with the citys mayor, and he ignores protocol and weighs in on who he likes in the race to become the next Prime Minister. And California Democrats boo more centrist 2020 president ial candidates who warn against medicare for all or appearing socialist. The frontrunner joe biden skipped the state p
