A big chill moving in behind a powerful noreaster that has already forced hundreds of Flight Cancellations and thousands of delays. The big question, is will this might ma nightmare end soon. Also, the fall out from ferguson in calm overnight but more protests and arrests across the country after the grand jurys decision not to diet michael wilson. Michael browns parents are spending their first thank giving without their son. His another was overcome with emotion as she talked about what still haunts her about the day her 18yearold was shot dead. Here is a portion of her interview with nancy grace. Maam, you had just said that you wanted to break through that crime scene tape and go to him and do what . What did you want . I wanted my son off the ground. I wanted them to show him some respect like we were showing them. Thats my first boy laying on the ground. That hurt me to my heart to know that somebody hurt him that way and i couldnt help him. When they finally got him off the ground, where did he go and where did you go . They told us they were taking him to a place called berkeley. I didnt know what that was. I asked them what is that . Once again, disrespect telling us to call down. We havent did anything. Weve stood here and waited 4 1 2 hours for you to pick my son off the ground and i asked you where are you taking his body and then you tell me to calm down. Why, what . I need to know where hes going to be. We didnt know where he was for two weeks. What was berkeley . I still dont know right now to this day. You did not know where his body was for two weeks. At the berkeley it was supposed to be with the medical examiner but the question is why didnt we get to see him . Michael browns parents also sat down with our legal analyst sunny hostin. They had some strong words for the officer who killed their son after hearing Darren Wilson tell his side of the story. I want you to take a listen to this. Officer wilson said he had a clear conscious about what h happened that day. If he he ad to do it again, he would. Hes a murderer. Thats what it tells you. What does that tell you, leslie . I hope the lord have mercy on his show. The reason i say that hes a murderer because if he was conscious of what he was doing, that means he understood his actions. He understood exactly what he was doing. You know . He didnt have a second thought. A push back thought or nothing. The harsh words strong emotions coming from those grieving parents. I want to bring in our reporter in delwood near ferguson missouri. Youve been on the ground reporting from that area. Youve seen first hand what has happened over the last couple of days. Gi give us a sense of that and tell us whats behind you . Reporter lets talk about sort of the amount of destruction thats there. Theres a lot of people who have this misguided idea that the entire town of ferguson is burned down. It isnt. There are a couple of streets. I want to give you an aerial look at some of the destruction that happened monday night. Youll see a bunch of cars there burning. That is actually in delwood which is a few minutes from ferguson. Those cars burned a few nights from the burning and looting. This is west forison. Wanted to give you a day time look at the same scene in the day light. These are the same cars. This is a car lot. You can see b and a on the back. That should indicate that the bomb and arson unit has come tout take a look at these cars. This is just some of the destruction that happened over night. Our photographer started giving you a look at that hear on this car lot. Of course there are also businesses that suffered a great deal of damage. Some of their buildings destroyed. Were not just talking about a couple. Were talking about more than a dozen buildings that were burned or looted. A lot of frustration from the Business Owners who talked to me to say like look, we were hoping we would be protected. We were told that our businesses would be protected and they werent. But the responsibility for this, many of them say lie solely with the people who decided to be criminals and take over this town at least west floriston and south florison but they are frustrated that the National Guard did not come out earlier to try to protect their businesses. A little hope. Some of these businesses including kathys kitchen which everyone loves is open. Theyve opened up to the public trying to serve the very people who they have come to love here in ferguson, the residents of ferguson. Thats what communities are built on. What a great sign of i dont know in light of all that has happened there that they are Still Standing and that they refuse to sort of let this define them in ferguson. A greater conversation needs to be had about what is going to now happen right, if theres a investigation into what happened with the looting and arson and other crimes. It has left many wondering what kind of conversations to have with their children. For many this is intensely personal. It raises many questions in households about how to keep their kids safe. Before anybody at home says well, my kid is not africanamerican, latino, i dont need to be part of this conversation, i actually think we all need to be part of this conversation. I am not a mother but lz, i know you are a father. You have a teenager. You have a teen age boy who is africanamerican. You wrote very poignantly about feeling afraid for your sons life. Im curious what the conversation was now after Michael Brown was shot because you had that conversation after Trayvon Martin died . Right so we definitely had a longer reminding conversation after Trayvon Martin. Michael browns murder is different in our household for a variety of reasons. One, my son is a senior in high house. Martin was a different age bracket. Brown just graduated from high school. My son is about to graduate from high school. My son saw even more of myself in this situation than trefi ia mart martin. Every time my son leaves the house, i tell him be a good boy. We recognize that the world views him somewhat hostile depending upon where he is. I remind him in all situations, be a good boy. Thats part the conversation that needs to be had but wendy, we also know that the world works a little differently as much as our kids can behave. The world out there is a rough and tough place. We also know, wendy, that this is a conversation that needs to be had with all teenagers, irrespective of race because it affects us all. You know all children, michaela. My children happen to be beracial. When we have that conversation, its not about race, its about respecting Police Officers and their authority and anybody holding a gun and growing some kind of emotional intelligence. That means thinking what that person could be perceiving at that moment. Maybe they are feeling a state of fear. I was in a car accident and police came and my daughter tried to run to our car and get her back pack and she kept going and i had this great teaching moment when i had you stop right now. When a Police Officer tells you to do something, you listen. We want to talk about the feeling of the loss of a family. The fear of both men. This young 18yearold man. This Police Officer. His actions based on fear. We want to help children try to understand the emotional consequences of what goes on with everybody in these situations. And the fact that there are various people in our communities. There has to be understanding. We have to put away stereotypes. We have to try and foftster conversation. Its interesting because sometimie izize izize i find myg frustrated that we have to have these conversing as at all. The fact is, its today world. Its todays world. It was yesterdays world. There are a lot of things that really have not changed. A lot of people dont know this but i will share with you, i was on my way to the set a couple of days ago down in ferguson and i was pulled over. The Police Officer told me that i looked like someone. I had a skull cap on because it was cold outside. I glanced at myself in the mirror and i thought to myself, of course i look like someone. In this situation with all that is around me. Of course i look like someone. Youre right, you do have to have empathy for Police Officers in that given situations. Its important that those who dont have those experiences, its important that they empathize and listen to what they are saying. Were experiencing the world totally different than you are. Its good to have an exchange. If your ears are closed. Were not having an exchange. No. Absolutely. I think open ears is general what we all think need to be happening. I think theres probably some unfortunate teaching moments coming out of this too. Wendy. When i think about what schools could and can and perhaps should be doing in terms of helping the student body understand their right to weve seen students protesting. Weve seen students getting very active in social media about wanting to voice their opinions, et cetera. Theres some good opportunities there, too. I absolutely agree. I actually love the fact that there are a will the of peaceful protests going on around the country that social media being used as an expression of this is how the system is supposed to work is that were supposed to talk about our feelings in whatever method we have out there. I encourage people to actually go onto cnn. Com because theres a great article about racism. Dont ever say that youre raci racist. Studies on newborn babies show that their head torns more to people who look like them. Theres a natural doctors give different care to people of the same or different race. All of us have to go one step further and actually assume were all racist and make the extra step to be more inclusive. To be more i always tell my kids look for the one person whos different and make them your friend. They need you. Its very important that we understand that. And you need them, too. I would say that it is totally okay to recognize the differences in each other. The problem is not recognizing the differences. It is how to respond to those differences. Exactly. Thats such an important thing. And judging the differences. I see a white lady here. I see an africanamerican there and a swirl girl as i call myself right here. After an investigation, he may not be exactly what he appears to be. Out of the denniath this sum, a media star for a man named shawn parcels. He dazzled on details on the private autopsy on Michael Brown. Two gun shot wounds to the head indicating that mr. Brown was bending over as they were coming down. Were back with shawn parcels who assisted in the autopsy of Michael Brown. Even here on cnn. Hes appeared in the media time and again as a forensic pathology experts. We know he assisted in the private autopsy. Parcels is not a doctor. We know he calls himself a forensics medical consultant. A medical investigator and a professor but is he what he says he is. So you call yourself a professor . Yes. Where are you a professor im adjust professor at Washburn University in topeka, kansas. We contacted Washburn University. They know while he has spoken to universities, he has never been a professor there. Washburn University Says thats not true. Can you show us that contract. He never showed that contract. He later said it was proprietary. I would say he was a fraud. Manipulator. Very good con artist is the way i would put it. Deputies say shawn parcels performed an autopsy in a criminal case without a doctor present. So he introduced himself as a pathologist, as a medical doctor and he seemed believable. Thats correct. Very much so. You two are both very experienced Law Enforcement professors and even you two were duped. Thats right. The deputies say without a medical signature on the autopsy report, its not valid. Its been more than two years since the crime. Can you move forward with the prosecution. We cannot move forward at this time with the case at all. Why not. Because the autopsy was not performed legally because we cannot use any evidence found from the out ones autopsy to b and prosecute any suspects in a case. That means according to the deputies, bobby forester suspected of killing his grandfather was set free. Shawn parcels never told the deputies he was a doctor. If they want to think they are a doctor, thats their issue. People assume stuff all the time and they never ask. Its bad that they are assuming and that they never ask. Parcels who has a bachelors degree says he is supervised by medical doctors but sometimes they are not present when he performed an autopsy procedure. So you do them when theres no md in the room. At times. They are there and sometimes they are not. Youre not an m. D. Im not an m. D. But its legal for you to be cutting up bodies. Taking organs out and making observations. During each and every autopsy conducted, the attending pathologist is present at all times. We always have the pathologist present and directing the examination. If you think thats shocking, the owner of this funeral home promised to arrange an autopsy for an unidentified body. He didnt show up for weeks and maggots appeared. Where is that body now . He says he has not heard from parcels in more than a year. When we asked where is the body we got a barauge of obscenitie obscenities. He has. Excuse my language. I got emails to prove that he ignores me. You want to be truthful, hes a im sorry to cuss like this but this particular case misses me off. Parcels added that the coroner can pick up the body from his morgue in topeka any time. So with coroners and Law Enforcement so angry, why havent they gone after him. They say prosecutors might be worried. She says some of them may have used his autopsy reports to get convictions. Convictions they dont want overturned. It could be a problem for that prosecuting attorney if that prosecutor has prosecuted somebody based upon shawns findings. Of course thats a problem. For the prosecutor. For the prosecutor. So no one wantsing to after him. No one has. No one has to this point. Now, one county in missouri did file a complaint with the states lice etchnsing board. The complaint said that they expected that a pathologist would be at the procedure. Instead he did it on his own. The board closed the case without tabiking any action. Parcels insists that the forester case was doomed from the start because the dead mans body had been embalmed prior to the autopsy and the sheriffs never turned over records. All right. She passed away in 1999 and we you first started your search and we found each other and found out that we had each other in 2000, so unfortunately she had passed away at that time. I know shes watching down on both of us now. She sure is. Mom, its interesting, that journey wasnt the necessarily the easiest thing to do. It was hard when i had to broach the subject of wanting to search for my birth family but we made it through and im proud to say that you and i and dad, we did it together . Well thats true. Thats the way weve always done everything. Together. Its so true. Together. Exactly. And the fact that were doing National Television together, i cant say that, it will freak both of you out. I want to talk about the reaction people have had. One of my favorite stories when we moved to a new community, we went to a Brand New Church and one of those people that are sometimes nosier than their own good saw the seven of us file in and looked and said to you, oh, thats sort of in a judgy way, thats interesting. Tell me how that works. Mom, tell the people how you responded. Well, i know it embarrassed you, sweetie, and im sorry, but i looked at them and said, they all have different fathers many, you can imagine how mortifying that would have been when i was 15. I look back on and grin at my mom she would Say Something like that. I think it helped us all that you guys have had such a great dose of humor. Marny for you, this adoption thing is pretty new. It is. And clearly we dont look like twins, so sometimes come on. Sometimes explaining were sisters is, you know, its it seems like its a big pill for some people to swallow and other people dont flinch and roll with it which is awesome. Yeah. I agree. Its so interesting, mom, we talk a lot in our family about our broad definition of family. I really credit you and dad with that. Well, yes. That is what family is. Its to the just dna. Many people who share common dna dont share family. And we can get together from many different spots and melt together and become family and include the dna family also, which is special. It is special. And now you a blonde daughter too, in marny. Yes. And a redhead in california. Yes. Exactly. The family grows and grows. Its really interesting, the whole tip for the folks at home, when cnn. Com asked me to write this piece to tell the broader picture of our familys story of adoption, i suggested that we not just do my story, but incorporate the point of view of mom as an adoptive mom, and of marny, a girl that found out she had a big sister as an adult. She found this out as an adult. It was so beautiful to do this together with the both of you. Im curious what each of you came away with . Marny, what did you find you learned or discovered about yourself in the process of writing this . I think i took for granted that i had just dealt with my moms death and that everything just happened, so this allowed me to really sit back and take a moment and reflect on everything thats gone on in the past 15 years and in doing so, kind of made me feel a little better about some things. So it was rewarding, it was difficult at times, but i think it turned out amazing and im happy we did it together. I see this picture of our mom, dale, who passed away before i could meet her, you had the pleasure of growing up with this tremendous woman and youre always telling me how much i look like her. I dont always see it but that prom picture i see it. Mom, this has been a trip for you too because you and i have a wonderful bond and im so grateful to you that you have opened your heart to this process. Im curious what you have learned or gleaned from this experience of kind of living it out loud . Well, back in the day, adoption was only seen as a second choice for infer tile people and we were sort of trailblazers in that time. You were. Because that was not our journey, but to choose children who were falling through the cracks, children who every time they sat down to play with their little toys, somebody walked in, took a boy and stuck him in some other family. Six, seven times, teaching children to not to trust and to decide as adults that they are going to be in control of their life, that no one is going to do this to them again. It was such a privilege to watch the different girls, now there are seven and more. And more. Their biological sisters. Exactly. Sisters and brothers, also call me.
