Talk about how much that pot of controversial coffee costs. Oh, thats good. Thank you. Clinton expected to talk about the economy with the speech in michigan. Its basically a rebuttal to Donald Trumps speech on the economy earlier this week. She wants to keep the spotlight on taxes and shes expected to release her 2015 tax returns this week, throwing down the gauntlet, hoping to keep up the pressure on donald trump to do the very same. Would you like to take bets if that will work . Jeff zeleny is live in warren, michigan, ahead of clintons speech. First, cnns sara murray in miami beach waiting on donald trump to take the stage. Sara what are you hearing . Well, good morning, kate. Certainly has been quite a buzz around the Time Magazine story. We do know that Reince Priebus was very frustrated with donald trump last week. We have seen these tensions simmering between the rnc and the trump campaign. And our understanding of these conversations. It was a frank discussion with donald trump about sort of where the stage of the race stands. About the fact that what donald trump says has ramifications not just for his own campaign but for those other candidates who are going to be on the ballot and theyre also in tight reelection fights and theyre going to need to do what they have to do to win. Now, trump is not expected to be talking about this here today, as you pointed out, Hillary Clinton is going to be talking about the economy and were expecting donald trump to come out here and speak about the housing sector, to talk about the hit that it suffered. To talk about how, you know, the industry has not bounced back under president obama, that Hillary Clinton would essentially be more of the same. He is hoping to stick to the script, to keep his focus on the economy but, kate, that was the plan from the beginning of the week. Clearly, it did not play out that way for the first couple of days so well see how it goes from here today, kate. We will see, indeed, sarah murray, in miami beach, well keep our eye on lectern right there. In the meantime, lets go to jeff zeleny live in warren, michigan, where we are expecting to hear from Hillary Clinton in just a little bit, jeff. We are indeed. Its warren mcmc, mccole many county. As youre a student of politics, mccomb county is the place where reagan democrats was coined. Working class voters in the suburb of detroit. Thats why Hillary Clinton is here to give this economic address today in this factory im standing right now. She is going to call on donald trump to release his tax returns. I am told by a Senior Adviser to her campaign that she is going to release her 2015 tax returns as early as tomorrow. Tim kaine, her running mate, is going to release ten years of tax returns, all trying to push pressure on donald trump to release his. Now, he has so far declined to do so. He is the first nominee of a major party to not release his taxes going back to richard nixon. Now, she is trying to weave all this together in the argument that his business acumen, his business record, is not a strength but a liability. Shes going to of course be talking about her economic plan as well. She says her plan would create some 10. 4 million jobs during the opening days of her administration. Thats a little hard to factcheck because the Republican Congress is almost certain to not approve all of those proposals. But drawing a contrast here is her main point of this speech today in warren, michigan, and those taxes, which she says shell be releasing herrine ini early as tomorrow. John and kate. Absolutely, all right, jeff zeleny, thank you. So Time Magazine reporting this morning all the controversies around donald trump. Surrounding donald trump, stop it, has the head of the Republican Party worried about other republicans, republicans running for seats, to keep their seats in the house and senate. Donald trump says the media has twisted his words but is the Republican Party satisfied with trumps words . Im nervous right now. Alex altman says no. In Time Magazine he writes, Donald Trumps sinking poll, unending attacks, have the gop reconsidering its strategy for november. He is times washington correspondent. He joins us right now. Alex, you know, the big bombshell in your article this morning has everyone talking. You report the rnc, that Reince Priebus essentially threatened donald trump to turn things around or else, or else they will reallocate resources to congressional areas. Explain. Im not sure i used the word threatened. At one point last week, after trump declined to initially declined to endorse paul ryan, he got on the phone to tell trump in pretty frank terms that his poll numbers were headed in the wrong direction, that republicans were frustrated with the way things were going, and that over the coming weeks the party had some difficult decisions to make. Including, he suggested, potentially making the call to shift party resources, to down ticket house and senate races. But the story does not say, and our reporting does not suggest, that it was a threat or an ultimatum or the decision had been made. Alex, sean spicer of the rnc, he put out a tweet just this morning saying the story about reince telling donald trump theyre going to reallocate resources, they say it is not true. You can be sure inside trumps campaign, no matter what they say, they dont want this out there, that there is this back and forth, that this conversation had happened. What do you say about sean spicer refuting it this morning . Well, i think its important to note carefully the words that he used. He said the decision had not been made and, you know, we had not reports that that decision had been made. But we can tell you that we stand by our story. We have good sources inside the party. We are confident in the report that this is something that the party will have to consider. Over the next couple of weeks. Depending on the trajectory of the trump campaign. In this article, you spoke to donald trump, and some people were detecting a slightly different tone about how he speaks about things. Talking about the possibility of what he would do if he did not win the presidency on november 8th. He did it again this morning on an interview on cnbc. I want to play that sound. Just keep doing the same thing im doing right now and at the end its either going to work or im going to, you know, im going to have a very, very nice long vacation. So thats a little bit interesting to hear, a very nice long vacation. You dont usually hear candidates talk like that. Did it sound fatalistic to you when he said the same sort of thingings in the intervis in th . Its even a word we use in the piece. A sense of creeping fatalism. He acknowledged he things the campaign is doing better than anyone recognizes, he acknowledged hes now trailing in the polls. This is someone who has built his entire kind of ethos, this mythology around himself as a winner. Hes down five or six points. Which actually undershot it as the polls currently stand. I think, you know, reality is beginning to set in for him. That, you know, phone calls with other republicans with folks such as chairman priebus, certainly hammers it home. This has been a very, very difficult really threeweek stretch for him since the conclusion of the Republican Convention in cleveland. I think the quote you guys have in your article about this is when you said to you, all i can do is tell the truth. He says if that does it, thats great. If that doesnt do it, thats fine too. That speaks volumes. Alex, thank you for coming on. Lets discuss this, folk, with us tonight, today, whatever time zone your in, democratic strategist, Hillary Clinton supporter, hilary rosen. Andre bau, former Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina and donald trump supporter. Errol lewis. And political strategist ana navarro, no fan of donald trump. Andre, youve run a lot of campaigns. This tone youre hearing from trump, Time Magazine sees it as a fatalistic tone, 89 days out from election day, does that concern you . I didnt hear it, i dont know the tone when you read this quote, this is not a man who kind of says things like this. Well, it doesnt sound like the donald trump ive heard speaking for the last year. So i would like to hear more about it. But it doesnt sound like what im used to hearing from him. I cant sea donald trump 89 days out from an election giving up. Just doesnt sound like him. It doesnt sound like him. Which is why its remarkable. You heard him in his own voice saying ill take a long vacation, you know, as his supporter, someone who put a lot of energy to backing donald trump do you want your candidate talking about the possibility of a long vacation . Absolutely not. I want him to talk about how bad the vacation would be if we had four years of Hillary Clinton. I want him to stay on message with that. Ana, what do you make of this real or perceived split happening now with trump and the rnc . Talk of moving resources away from trump to house and senate races for down ballot republicans . Even if its something that hasnt been decided but it is being discussed. If it happened in a conversation, if that was part of a conversation with donald trump what does it say to you . First, let me say that im a big fan of Reince Priebus, of sean spicer, of katie walsh. I think they are a very difficult, difficult position. And im not part of the club that wants them chased out of the building. Now, at some point, republicans, particularly the rnc, theyve got to come to the realization theres going to be no pivot. Theres going to be no transformation. Theres going to be no magic wand that spreads fairy dust over donald trump and turns him into a president ial candidate who is more appealing to more than just his base. This is what we have, folks. And, yes, is dragging the ticket down. It is a huge problem. So Many Republican candidates have got to spend the bulk their time explaining, distancing themselves, just trying to justify and run as far away as they can from the crazy stuff this man spews week in and week out. But ana, to your point cut the anger lose. The entire damn ship sinks or you cut the anchor loose and you focus on the senate and the house. To your point, what happened to those conversations that Paul Manafort went to capitol hill behind closed doors, was telling these senators that hes going to change, hes going to change, hes going to pivot . I mean what happens to those conversationing conversations . Kate, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Everybody expected the guy to pivot. Thats what happens in a general election. Pivot, become a more appealing candidate. Change your tone. Olize you are now the nominee of a major party and you become more president ial. You grow into the position. It has not happened with donald trump. This is trump. You either love him or you dont love him. I am definitely in the category of people who do not love him. Errol lewis, donald trump last night said that president obama founded isis. He he said it a lot last night. This morning by the way, he did not found isis, strange to have to make on the tv good fact check, john. Conservative radio talk show host was sort of giving him an out. You didnt really mean he founded isis. You didnt really mean that. This is what donald trump told hugh hewitt this morning. No, its no mistake, everyones liking it. I think theyre liking it. Everyones liking it, that i said president obama founded isis. Yes. What do you make of this . I make of it that as has been true for a year now, donald trump becomes kind of the creature of the crowd in front of him, you know, when we talk about people who are accused being demagogues or being or ra oratators that are inciting the passion of the crowd, we seldom think the reverse is true. Which is what happens with donald trump. The crowd gets a hold of him. Hes basing his statements, his preferences, his choices, on what the 5,000 or 10,000 people in front of him think. Without adequate sort of consideration of what its going to mean not just to the rest of the republican ticket but to the 10odd Million People actually the 100odd Million People who are still making up their minds, you know. If you look at the expected turnout for the general election compared to the very high turnout for the primaries, youve still got Something Like 100 Million People who are just now tuning in and checking this stuff out. If hes going to make a decision on Something Like this, should i accuse the sitting president of the United States of cofounding a terrorist organization and claim falsely that hes being honored by that organization, you can base it on a roar that you get from the 5,000 or 10,000 or 20,000 people in front of you or you can think about it more broadly. Getting from here to november 8th in some kind of decent shape. Hes making some bad choices. General michael lahayden, he was on morning joe this morning, this reaction hold on, i think donald trump is taking the stage in miami beach. Lets listen in to this really quick. You got the mvp award. Isis will hand her the most valuable player award. Her only competition is obama, between the two of them. So well see. But i think were going to do, i think were going to do very well. We have a situation that i was just with some of you folks. We were talking about different elements of whats going on with the housing. And they tell me the regulation, in fact, innoti notice when i mn regulation before, everybody perked up because youre being driven wild with regulation. In the last five years, regulations on building houses, building homes, you know, building homes, and you all know what youre doing, have increased by 29 . And now a number i was just given which is shocking, you have a 25 of your total cost is in regulation. I dont understand how thats possible. In fact, wheres your leader . He told me that number. 25 , the cost of the house is regulation. So thats a pretty sad story. I will say this, i say this to you very strongly, if short circuit Hillary Clinton ever gets elected, its only going to be worse. Its going to get worse. Its going to be four more years of obama, but it will be worse. Because shes mandated to go to the left because 45 of, you know, bernies people, they want her to head in that direction. With judges, Supreme Court judges. A lot of the problems you have are judicial. With litigation, lawsuits. I know the problems you have. Youll build a beautiful house. And sometimes you make mistakes, okay. And sometimes you build a lousy house, okay. And they should sue you. But i know the people, many of the people in this room, youre professionals. You have a tremendous problem with the court system. Ive heard it. A really big problem with the court system. So were going to make sure that, you know, were going to make sure a lot of the things that are happening to you just cant happen. We want it to be a fair system. Has anybody in this room had what they call a frivolous lawsuit . Frivolous . I would think thats all . Not that many. Seriously. Theyre just embarrassed to raise their hands, okay. Ill bet you every Single Person in the room. But very interestingly, a Washington Post story was written yesterday that was so devastating to Hillary Clinton. I couldnt believe it, primarily because it was in the Washington Post. And when she was a senator, because, believe me, they are a onesided deal, but the press is extremely dishonest so thats okay, you have to bull through it. The people are starting to get it. The people understand. Theyre smart. The american voter, the American People are smart. They understand whats going on with the horror that we know is the press. We have one newspaper that actually admitted that theyre covering me unfairly. But they said we hate him so much it doesnt matter, can you believe that, a major paper. I knew that before. I was reading the story, like, boe bored, reading the story. But the Washington Post did a story on Hillary Clinton two days ago that was so devastating in terms of if youre looking for, like, what you folks want, you want efficiency. You want jobs. We want jobs. The country wants jobs. When she was a person running for the United States senate from new york, she said things that were so unbelievable. She was going to take. Because her husband signed nafta. Nafta destroyed upstate new york. Destroyed it. Our factories closed. Our jobs fled. Many to mexico. When you look at mexico, were look third world now. The factories theyre building now. Has anyone seen whats going on in mexico . Theyre taking our businesses. Theyre taking our plants. A friend of mine builds plants. He says its the eighth wonder in the world whats going on in mexico. How we doing in the United States . Eh, not so good, okay, not so good. What a sad, sad state of affairs. Well, nafta made that all possible. And it was signed by her husband. But shes running for the president years ago. She said shes going to hit 200,000 jobs, its going to be unbelievable. Disaster. A disaster. Passed no legislation that helped. Couldnt get out of her own way. It went down like youve never seen. One of the worst in the country. And its been a total unmitigated disaster. Except for the people that made money trying to work out her plans. They made a fortune. The consultants and owns. Shell make a speech today. She doesnt have the talent to do it. Just remember this, i think very importantly, if she wanted to do it, she couldnt, because her donors wouldnt let her. When we look at hillary and we look at her donors, i had a chart made up yesterday. Which is amazing. Im trying to figure out who the 16,000s from. But these are people that are very smart people. Theyre not necessarily nice people. I know half of them. But these are people when they give her 5 million or whatever they give and they raise all that money, theyre working for them. They werent there for them. They werent there for the country. I financed my primaries. Im financing now this. Im raise ago lot ing a lot of the rnc. Were getting tremendous small contributions. Thousands and thousands of small contributions. 61 average or thereabouts. Its amazing. Weve taken in a lot of money. I think very few republicans would be able to do that. You have to look at this Washington Post story because its amazing. But i wrote down some notes. I just wanted to talk about the policies of obama and clinton and where we are and what theyve done and the last thing you want it four more years of obama. The last thing you want are judges put on the United States Supreme Court that are going to destroy our nation. We lost judge scalia. He was a great justice. Was a great judge. We lost him. That was shocking because he was going to be there at least another ten years. And that seat was taken. But all of a sudden before so this president actually could have as many as five. Its unlikely five, but probably four. Almost definitely three. Its a lot. But it could be an all time record. Could have five. So thats probably the single most or one of the certainly one of the very big i mean defense i always say is the most. We have to be safe. We cant let isis come in. We cant let the syrians pour into our country like they are right now. We have no idea where they are coming from, who they are. Theres no way you can vet then. But theyre pouring in. And hillary wants 550 more to come in, which is just insane. We have to be smart. We have to be tough. We have to be vigilant. I will say president obama and clinton have economic policies that have produced the latest report. If that ever happened in china, theyd have a revolution. They get to 7 and they start devaluing their currency and start taking more business out of the United States. And we allow it to happen. Because we have people at the top that are not smart, number one. So china starts devaluing. I have nothing against china. A tenant of mine. One of my buildings in new york. I sell condos to the chinese. The bank of america building in san francisco, i own that with a great partner. And i got that through china indirectly and directly. So ive had great relations ive made a fortune with china. But they dont respect us. They dont respect our country. They dont respect our president. They dont like our president. Putin doesnt like our president. Putin has no respect for obama whatsoever. Wouldnt it be nice if we could actually get along with russia . Wouldnt that be a decent thing . Wouldnt that be nice . So but theres no respect. But the 1. 2 growth percent was a startling number for a lot of people. The National Debt has nearly doubled under obama. The u. S. Trade deficit, all of this work we do for trade, trade, trade, we make all bad trade deals. Its nearly 800 billion last year. Billion, billion, billion dollars, with a b, 800 billion. If i used Home Builders to negotiate, that wouldnt be happening, believe me. I could take 90 of the people in this room. Maybe higher. I could take because i know the people in this room. I could take 90 of the people in this room. And our country would be flush. Well be rolling in dough. But we have a trade deficit of 800 billion. We have a trade deficit with china of 505 billion. Think of it, trade deficit. Does anybody think they couldnt do a better deal . Raise your hand if you think you couldnt do a better deal. Does anybody . Oh, he raised his hand. He had the guts. Get out of here, we dont want you. Hes not a true home builder. Im only that was very cute, thank you. Im sure you dont believe that, but thats okay. If you do, boy, your business must be suffering, right . In the last seven years, another 14 Million People have left the workforce. Hillary clinton is going to make a speech tonight. Shes going to raise taxes, 1. 3 billion. Im going to cut taxes bigly, bigly. Were having a massive cut in taxes. Were having a massive cut in regulations, you know. And that includes banking regulations for you people. Because its impossible for you people to go get mortgages. So hard for people to get mortgages. Unless you have a lot of money in the bank. And unless you dont need money, you cant borrow. You cant borrow. I have friends who call me, can you give me a reference to a bank. I said, why would you need a reference, you got a good business. He said no, they want us to have more money than we want to borrow. If you had that, you wouldnt want to borrow, right . Its impossible. With dodd frank, all the different things. I know people who cant get mortgages to buy houses. Thats why your housing numbers are way down from what they were in terms of new capacity. 1 in 5 american households do not have a Single Member in the labor force. Think of that. Home ownership this is a biggie for you, Home Ownership is at its lowest rate in 51 years. It was always like the American Dream, right. At the lowest race in 51 years. I have a chart. Where is that chart. See, into the world of charts lately. So descriptive. So heres a chart. Most of you can see. Heres obama. And heres the end. Hes not finished yet. Isnt that a terrible now isnt that a terrible picture . Look at that. Home ownership. So you take a look at whats happen happened. Thats the American Dream right there, folks. And then they wonder why 25,000 people come to my rallies and why 10,000 people and 10,000 and 5,000 when we have a room that holds 200. And why you know, even your meeting. It was supposed to be onethird this size and look at it. But look at this. And to me that says so much because its Home Ownership. Thats the American Dream. Its the lowest its been in 51 years. Wow. So i think thats a pretty sad thing. I hope you know i had that chart not necessarily made for you but i figured it would be a good one to pull out. Nearly 12 Million People. More americans are dependent on food stamps and 2 million more latino americans live in poverty. Latino americans. Incredible people. Theyre living in poverty, 2 million. 58 of africanamerican youth are not employed. 58 . American households are earning 4,000 less. See, this is, to me, so incredible. American households are earning 4,000 less today than they were 16 years ago. The real numbers 18 years ago. But this particular group says 16. Statistically. 16 years ago. Many workers are earning less money than they were earning in real dollars in 1970. And then you wonder why theyre angry. You wonder why they really want a voice. And the voice is us. We have a movement going on. Its been an amazing thing. The polls are getting very close. Very, very close. Its very interesting whats happening. We will create millions of new good paying jobs. With an across the board income tax reduction. I mean, this is one of the things we have to do. We have to do. Were going to create millions jobs. Now, everybody admits, you know, the 5 numbers just a number to make politicians look good, to make the president s look good. Not only obama, who was there before him. Its gotten worse because more people, the way they analyze these people. People cant find work. You know, if you give up looking for a job, after months, you go home, i cant find one today. I cant find one. I cant find one. To your wife or to your husband. I cant find a job. You go hope and you give up. After a while, you give up. And everybody admits that there are no good jobs. The good jobs we dont have anymore. Even the we have jobs, we dont have good jobs. But you give up looking. And yet youre considered str e statistically employed. The numbers are phony numbers. Every time i watch that, unemployment is down to 5 . Its not down to 5 . Its probably 20 . Some people think its higher. But people want jobs. And they quit. They give up looking. Everyones taxes, we want to go down. Under my plan. Three brackets. Going to have three brackets instead of seven. Were doing a major, major, major simplification. The one company that will not be happy is h r block. No, i know people that go and spend a fortune on tax returns because they cant its too complicated. They cant figure it out. Many americans are going to pay nothing. Now, theyre going to pay zero because theyre not making enough to live. But they dont want to send theyre not going to send a tax return it costs a fortune. Billions of dollars. And they dont have money and theyre not going to pay so were going to make that a little easier process. Hillary clinton has supported tax increases all right, weve been listening to donald trump speaking to the National Associate of Home Builders. Hes in miami beach. You heard at the very top when we got into the speeches him double, triple, quadrupling down on his statement that president obama and Hillary Clinton were the founders of isis. Back now with our panel. Lets go to hilary rosen, a Hillary Clinton supporter. Hilary, your response to donald trump you make me listen to him for 25 minutes, that was torture, so unfair. You loved every minute of it. Really, i dont listen were clearly in the business of torture. Now answer. First of all, he was very, very low energy, wasnt he . Like, i never saw him so low energy. I think hes starting to get a little depressed. You know, he sort of gets out there, hes talking, hes droning on, you know, hes telling one lie after another. And i its unfortunate that his Economic Analysis and his political analysis is so off. Youre going to see Hillary Clinton today talk about her economic plan. And a Real Investment in infrastructure. Real investment in jobs. And Donald Trumps entire economic plan is essentially giving tax cuts to the wealthy. Something we know hasnt worked in the past. And this nonsense about hes going to let the poor people not pay taxes. Guess what, they dont pay taxes anyway. The fact he is so off base in terms of connecting to real people. That he wont release his own taxes. What is he hiding. I just think this sort of whole speech is just kind of low Energy Political analysis and mostly nonsense. Hes not giving people anything here. Well, on the energy point, andre, what do you make of it . Its a very different person than, say, you saw last night in his big rally. I mean, he was subdued. Sometimes that almost seemed like he was reading the notes for the first time because he read it and said this is great for you guys, realizing hes speaking from the Home Builders association. What do you make of this kind of different donald trump you see from day to day or rally to rally, speech to speech . Well, probably the schedule hes keeping. My understanding is he keeps a tremendous schedule. Lets be frank here, both these candidates are not spry young people. Not to say anything about their age, but when youre running that hard, after a while, everybody gets tired, probably trying to do too many things, you know, with 89 days to go. Anna, you were picking up on his energy, i was following you on twitter during the speech. Multitasking. One thing, he did pull out that chart. Which is a chart which gets to an economic point that hes been making. Which is that Home Ownership has dropped precipitously. Which it has. You know, he gave a speech where he was just holding up that chart, that might be an argument, an economic argument i think republicans would want him to run on, ana. For a while, thought that chart was about his energy level. Where it topped off and now its going down to the end. I just wish i was controlling jeb bushs twitter feed because id write out a tweet, hey, buddy, whos the low energy candidate now. What i saw right now is weird. I think we are see being the wheels just come off this campaign. This candidate. Andre is right, it is a rigorous process to run for president. Neither of these folks are in the best of shape. Were watching the mercurial donald trump going from high to low. It is almost like the child who gets chastised and behaved for a couple of hours before he goes back to throwing the baseball through the window. And i think we see this with donald trump over and over again. It is coming across as increa increasingly weird and hard to follow or interpret. Can i just make one point hang on one second, hillary. Ana calls it weird. Hes speaking before the National Association of Home Builders. He did hold up a chart talking about Home Ownership rates. Help is talking about the economy. He also hit on things like isis. Hit on Supreme Court justices, also hit on relations with russia when he was saying, you know, back to what weve heard him say before in a sense saying wouldnt it be great if we had a Good Relationship with russia, leaving it out there and no one reacting in the audience. The audience hes speaking to it seems a little disjointed. Well, yes, and meandering. Hes talking about selling condos to chinese clients and so forth. Youre looking at where hes speaking because their logo was behind him. And i spent the first few minutes trying to focus in on or trying to imagine what was the original message he came here to convey. It really wasnt until he pulled out the chart you could sort of figure out, well, this originally i goods wuess was in as an economic speech talking about Home Ownership and blaming the Current Administration for the drop in Home Ownership. Perfectly valid point. I thought, in fact, i was intricked by what he said about regulations. He didnt get a response from the crowd but i imagine he must have been talking about financial regulations because, you know, other regulations related to Home Ownership and Home Building are strictly local, you know, zoning and so forth. Well, yeah, lets get into that. Lets talk about why Home Ownership dropped. Lets talk about the crash. What does it mean to have one or, you know, under 2 Economic Growth and whats your plan to spur it. You could sort of piece it together. But hes making meg e ing me as work too hard to figure out what he means. All right, guys, we have to run, im so sorry, thank you all for watching that with us. Donald trump continues to speak in miami beach. Meanwhile, he ran with al gore in one election, he endorse john mccain in another. Until now, Joe Lieberman wasnt ready to endorse but now hes made his pick for president. To whom will he lend joementum, find out next. Good things come together to make one great thing. To endorse or to unendorse. As donald trump is losing support from several highprofile republicans. Hillary clinton is adding at least one very highprofile independent to her list of supporters, Joe Lieberman was al gores democratic running mate, everyone will remember. This time around, he is saying im with her. Former senator Joe Lieberman joins us right now. Senator, thanks so much for being with us. There was some mystery surrounding who you would get behind in this election, why, well, because, you know, you ran as a democrat, you were a democrat, then you supported john mccain. Then there were some stories maybe hes looking at donald trump. Yes. What made you decide to endorse Hillary Clinton . I decided quite a while ago, but i also decided after there began to be some confusion. Im a cochair of a group called no labels with jon huntsman. Former governor of utah. Were working to bring people in both parties together so after the war that is this campaign is over, maybe we can help build a peace that will enable the new congress and new administration to get something done. I thought id stay out of the president ial for a while. Then people were kind of making wild judgments about what that meant. Im for Hillary Clinton. Ive known bill and Hillary Clinton since they were at Yale Law School which is a long time ago. I served with hillary for eight years in the senate. Worked with her when she was secretary of state. Shes strong, shes smart. In terms of what our government needs among the many things we need, we need a president who has a proven record of working across party lines to get things done. And thats what i saw Hillary Clinton do in the senate. Whats wrong with donald trump . Well, i guess im going to say that particularly because of the no labels and because i think theres such terrible back and forth in his campaign, im going to try to stay affirmative and just say why im for Hillary Clinton. I agree with her on most but not all issues. If it came down to it, do you think trump is qualified to be president . Im going to leave that to the voters. Let me put it this way, because i chose Hillary Clinton. Shes better qualified. By experience. And i agree with her on more issues. In other words, she has a strong record of keeping america strong in the world. And thats important to me. I think its important for americas security. I think she also knows how to keep the economy moving. And part of that involves good relations with our allies across the world. 50 former National Security officials, most of whom worked in a republican administration, signed a letter, which im sure youve seen, which called donald trump dangerous and said he was unfit to be president. I only bring that up because a lot of those names are names you actually agree with on a lot of subjects. Did you agree with the basis of that letter . That was stunning to me. Ive been meaning to go back and look at comparable times in history. Maybe the gold after Barry Goldwater was nominate, after George Mcgovern was nominated, did people in their respective parties depart from them . I dont think so. I think this is really unprecedented. Youre right, ive worked with a lot of people on that list. I was surprised at the strength of the language used against donald trump. I think it hurts him. And it hurts the Republican Party. You are a member of an elusive club calls exclusive club called the three amigos. You and Lindsey Graham have come out against donald trump, youre for Hillary Clinton, Lindsey Graham not going to vote for either. John mccain, the third amigo, he is supporting trump. Have you had conversationings with mccain about it . What do you say about that . Well, we talk regularly. John is my dear friend. Hes just a great person and a great public servant. So i think ive got to let him speak. I dont like to share unless theres some bad jokings that he tells me that you can share those any time. Do you think hes making a bad decision by supporting donald trump right now in advance of his own primary . No, i think the obvious effect is hes in a tough reelection. And hes working tremendously hard. Hes working with the energy of a guy whos about 30 years younger than he actually is. Hes in great shape. And im confident hes going to work the primary and get reelected in november. He deserves it. I loved what john kasich said the other day about him. John mccain is such a National Asset that really he ought to be able to serve in the senate as long as he wants. You know thats unconstitutional. Lindsey graham was on and he said johns got to do what johns got to do to get reelected. Thats essentially what he said. Would you be surprised if senator mccain pulled back since were seeing Many Republicans do that now, would you be surprised if senator mccain pulled back his endorsement after his primary . I would. I think were more likely to see what weve already seen john mccain do, which is that when donald trump says something that john mccain disagrees with, hes going to make that clear. But hes a republican. Hes running as a republican. And in that sense hes giving the republican nominee for president his support. Which candidate right now . Well, id say hillary has joementum right now. It doesnt take a political sage to say that. Obviously in a way thats been remarkable mr. Trump has hurt himself with a lot of the things that he said. But theres still a long time between now and election day. Plenty of time for you to come back. Thank you, senator. So coming up for us, an electronic watergate. Donald trump just marked up remarks to the National Association of Home Builders in miami beach. He once again said president obama and Hillary Clinton are cofounders of isis. Listen. Our government has unleashed isis. I call president obama and Hillary Clinton the founders of isis. Theyre the founders. In fact, i think well give Hillary Clinton the you know, if youre a sports team, most valuable player. You get the mvp award. Isis will hand her the most valuable player award. Joining us is texas congressman Michael Burgess joining us, Donald Trumps surrogate. Congressman, great to see you. Thanks so much for coming in. Good to see you guys. Thanks for having me on. We heard from donald trump last night. He went at it again today saying it is absolutely no mistake he said they were the founders of isis. He said it there and he said in an interview thats exactly what he meant. Do you agree . I was actually in the country of iraq five years ago this month, probably one of the last congressional delegations to be in iraq just prior to the time that all the troops were withdrawn, and i remember wondering if its a good idea to pull everyone out of the country. General austin at the time said weve done everything militarily we can do, and its up to the politicians in iraq to take charge of their own country, but still, even general dempsey several years before said well withdraw but keep a force within striking distance within the country, and then that didnt happen. You had the three large em bass sis, basra and bagdad. Hillary clinton was the secretary of the state department. Would this be enough to tolerate what happened in iraq . This was the part of the world that does btd tolerate a vacuum. I assumed it would be iran, never thought it would be syria. We certainly saw what happened over the next two or three years. Congressman, its srply an important discussion to have about whether president obamas polici policies led to or contributed to the rise of isis or perhaps arent effective in battling isis. Thats an important discussion, one we need in this country, and im sure in some ways both parties welcome. Thats different than saying president obama founded isis. When asked, if he meant that in a metaphorical way, no, no, no. He literally founded isis. Do you think thats taking it too far . Ill stay with the metaphorical. Again, this is the part of the world that doesnt tolerate a vacuum. When i asked people in the state department, people in the department of defense late in the summer of 2014 what was the plan, what was when i was there, i thought, well, theres got to be some idea of whats going to happen next. Congressman, do you use that terminology there never was a plan. Do you use the terminology that barack obama is the founder of isis . There never was a plan. You knew the place was a powder keg and knew it didnt tolerate a vacuum. What did you think was going to happen . What was the plan on the shelf that, we can pull this ring. If things go bad, here is where we come back. There was no expectation. To hugh hewitt this morning, he says, i know what you meant. You meant he created the vacuum, he lost the peace. Donald trump said, no, i meant hes founder of isis. I do. Its different. Again, a difference looking for a distinction. The caldron was set. The dials were all twisted in the proper direction to allow this to happen. Im no expert in middle east affairs. These people are. Why in the world hadnt they considered some of the things that could have happened that were quite likely to happen . Cute me what Donald Trumps plan is now to battle isis . Look, i as far as the battle of isis is concerned, the Congress Actually needs to take the next steps. That would be an authorization for use of military force. That debate over an au authorization for use of military force, should be the sun setting of uams, one pafrsed in 2001, one in 2002. Before i arrived in congress, most members of congress had not voted on authorization for use of military force. That needs to be delineated. We need to know what the objectives are, what the exit strategy is. All of that should be up for discussion right now. I know its an election year. Its hard to have those discussions. Its actually up to the congress. The president needs to propose something, and i wish he would. In fact, the National Defense authorization act from last year required the president to come forward with a proposal which really has still been lacking. But it is up to the congress to authorize the use of military force, and there is no aumf covering syria and yet we have on going activity there. Congressman burgess, thank you for being with us. Thank you. An important discussion. Also big news dealing with the democratic party, and electronic watergate at the hands of the russians, what nancy pelosi is calling the cyber hack. Joining us, roger altman, a Hillary Clinton supporter. Deputy secretary, thanks for being here. Are you concerned that your emails as this gets bigger and bigger and bigger, are you concerned your emails are caught up in this . Well, anybody would think russian hacking of the Democratic National committee is a pretty bad thing. Democratic National Committee probably should have had better protections to prevent that, but its unfortunate. You nervous there might be an october surprise somewhere in these emails that have been hacked . I doubt that. If you look at the emails released earlier through wikileaks, pretty small bore stuff, very intermural. I doubt that. The head of the dnc had to step down because of it though. Well, because those emails showed a bias or some sort of bias against senator sanders, and that shouldnt have been the case. And so that stepping down was appropriate given those circumstances. But in terms of things that affect the American People, because this is what the election is about, i dont think any of the emails revealed by that hack got into things that affect the American People, and i dont think youll see any october surprise either. What we ought to be talking about is the huge difference between donald trump and his planned economic lets talk about gdp, 1. 2 gdp, just came out a week and a half ago. Should the American People be satisfied with that . Well, we can do better than that. At one level the Unemployment Rate is 4. 9 , 14 million new private sector jobs created since the Great Recession began, average Hourly Earnings beginning to rise in the last year at about a 2. 5 annual rate. Thats good, but we can get growth up and we should. Thats one of secretary clintons objectives. We can get middle class incomes up. Thats the core of her plan. Its amazing how different these two plans are. Trumps plan is lets cut taxes, huge tax cuts for corporations and the wealthiest americans. He wants to eliminate the estate tax. Can you believe that . The estate tax. Today f you have an estate valued at 5. 4 million or less, you dont pay the estate tax, youre exempt. So the only people who would benefit from an elimination of the estate tax are people whose estates are worth more than 5. 4 million. How is that going to benefit working families in this country . The answer is it isnt, nor are the proposed tax cuts for corporations where he wants to cut the rate from 5 to 15 . That only cost 5 trillion over 20 years. He wants to cut the income tax rates on the highest earning americans down to 33 . That doesnt make sense for middle class americans. Well hear Hillary Clinton take to the stage and make that case today. Roger altman, thank you for joining us. Thank you all for joining us. We leave you with Ashleigh Banfield and legal view starting now. Hello everyone. Im Ashleigh Banfield. Welcome to legal view. 89 days, folks, count them, before this election is settled and three days after donald trump unveiled his economic plan in detroit, it is now Hillary Clintons turn to do the same thing.
