Translator this is a significant threat to world peace and security, and puts the Korean Peninsula into a security crisis. Reporter President Obama issuing an unusual long statement calling it a grave threat and with a very precise warning to kim jongun that the u. S. Another nuclear test by north korea is worrisome and quite dangerous. Some experts are saying that it could have been ten to 20 kilotons. Thats significantly larger than Previous Nuclear tests. Sourceser telling me that kind of discussion is always going on and when it comes to north korea there are always options on the table. If they do this, what does the u. S. Do in response . Theyre always ready for that sort of thing. There are a number of ships that are maintained in the pacific, and do you, in fact, want to make a show of force or is he so unpredictable right now, kim jongun, its better to see if he can get the chinese in to talk to him. It is very uncertain. Gordon, the former u. S. Ambassador to south korea, Christopher Hill office cnn today and he was talking about saying that the u. S. Should look at the Nuclear Program in north korea and quote, what direct means we can take to slow it down or kill which is very strong language. How likely and what are the options . That was an extraordinary interview because chris hill was very much a dove when he was in the Bush Administration and for him to talk or to affirm Military Options really are striking. I dont know if theres really a Military Option on the table at this point, but there are so many things we can do short of that. For instance, we havent been enforcing sanctions and the ministry has no secondary chances on china and you need to impose costs on beijing because thats the only you can get them to be cop rattive on north korea. Why do they see this as their problem, as well as a nuclear north korea, and his primary strategic adversary across the board and hes not going to help the United States on anything even if its in chinas interest and besides, every time north korea acts up we run to beijing and we ask for help and it gives us another reason to be cooperative with china and distracts us from other things we want to do in the region and keeps us off balance. If north korea didnt exist, china would have to invent it and its that beneficial for them. Barbara, hshg saying that we have more leverage with the chinese than we think. Well, i agree with gordon.
