12. 3 , in theyre below that 15 threshold. Well look inside those congressional districts as well to see if they are above 15 , able to get some delegates. But with 54 delegates at stake, and weve already awarded 14 to joe biden, hes on a path to get more. What would the impact be in terms of the contest to date . Take a look at what this scoreboard shows us. Remember, you need 1,991 delegates to win the democratic nomination. That is the metric. That is what determines the winner of the nomination. Look at our scoreboard. Sanders at 45 delegates. Biden at 29. He was at 15 when the night started. He basically doubled his delegate take and we still have 40 delegates to award. Buttigieg fell from second to third in the delegate count at 26. Warren at 8. Klobuchar at 7. Keep your eye on sanders and biden because if this Biden Victory is as big as it looks like it may be, theres a chance he could come real close or possibly even overtake Bernie Sanders in the National Delegate count. That would be so, so significant for the former Vice President. Jo john kissingng, looks like hes number one in a lot of counties. Could you be 0 for 3 and then have a successful firewall, the answer, at least in South Carolina, is yes for joe biden. A lot of people thought of that strategy. How big of a springboard . Its filling in right now exactly the way joe bidwanted a precisely what his campaign wanted. Still at 8 , lets see if the margin tighten. But as david just noted, with margin like this, joe biden is going to pick up a boat load of delegates. If youre winning this big statewide, guess what, youre probably winning big in most if not all the congressional districts as well. Charleston county has come in some. This is the Third Largest county in the state. Its right along the coast. People know charleston as a beautiful tourist site. Joe biden getting above 50 . No other candidate in this area getting 15 . We move up next day up to coast, georgetown county. Sanders with 16 in this county. Later on well overlay congressional maps and see how that matters. Still nothing from Richland County where columbia is in the middle of the state. Thats the state capital. The second largest of the 46 counties, 8 of the population, nothing yet. Up to 9 now. South carolina usually comes in pretty quickly. Your largely county is greenville, about 10 of the statewide population. Joe biden with a convincing win. Senator sanders up 16 . Later on when we get into the congressional districts, that could mean a delegate, two or three for Bernie Sanders. Well get to that math later on. Spartanburg, pretty convincing. This is africanamerican vote turning out for joe biden in a huge way. You want to look at the optics of momentum and go back, well wait and see if the whole thing fills in this way. In 2016 Hillary Clinton filled the state. This is critical at a time she was being challenged after the sanders win in New Hampshire in 2016. Hillary clinton needed to win big here to sent her support among the africanamerican base, to use it as a win. That so far is what joe biden is doing tonight in a crowded field at the moment by a pretty convincing margin. Big win, an absolute necessary win how big of a springboard. Joe biden is winning in South Carolina. He said he was the candidate who could get broadest support among the Traditional Democratic base, the Africanamerican Community. Will the other campaigns listen . Will they listen tonight or tomorrow . Well take this through tuesday, how much of a boost does this give to joe biden . Its the lighter shading of gray for the states that vote on tuesday. Again, stay here in the region, in the neighborhood fully. A lot of africanamerican voters in the south here. Is this a signal from South Carolina . Thats the challenge for the Biden Campaign. It will be interesting to hear from the former Vice President about how he tries to message this for this big map that votes tuesday night. Well hear from other candidates as well. Anderson, back to you. Earlier you understanding about some warning signs for Bernie Sanders in some of the numbers were seeing out of South Carolina. Can you elaborate . One of the questions was there was a lot of talk about how hes built a closer relationship to the Africanamerican Community. He did just as well today apparently if the exit polls are correct as he did four years ago among africanamericans here. He did just about as well here among moderates as he did four years ago. So some of the things that showed up four years ago have shown up now. I give all the credit to Bernie Sanders for what he has built. He has built a movement. The question is, what is the limit of that movement, can he grow it . We havent seen those signs. Nevada was an impressive showing. He underperformed in iowa and New Hampshire. Hes still, i think, the favorite to be the delegate leader at the end of this process. He has broad support across this country. Its really important because even if you dont win a state, you get delegates. But i think there are reasons for concern if youre a strategist in his camp. How likely do you think . Were talking about what bloombe bloomberg will do if he doesnt perform well. Pete buttigieg hasnt performed well, he has about 3 of the africanamerican vote. Tom steyer, 14 , Elizabeth Warren, 5 . Those are people who really have to look in the mirror and figure out if they got a realistic path forward. Somebody like Pete Buttigieg has said he can bring people together and he can have, you know, kind of a broad base coalition, and so far theres no evidence of that. If youre Elizabeth Warren, you have massachusetts coming up. Is she going to win massachusetts . Is Bernie Sanders stronger in her home state. Amy klobuchar, minnesota also on the ballot on tuesday. So they have to figure out do they want to get out of this race, maybe save themselves some embarrassment in their home states and also maybe put some momentum behind the moderate candidate. If you spent 23 million like tom steyer to get maybe one delegate, you were running for president of South Carolina for a very long time and this there really if that was his business, belted a billionaire. I would be surprised if he gets out tomorrow. I dont see any path for him and i think he should get out. Its not doing him any good anymore and its not doing the party any good. Elizabeth warren according to john kings look at the map is not top three anywhere in South Carolina. I think that to date shes probably been the greatest ally that joe biden can ask for because of the way in which shes been so aggressive in going after Michael Bloomberg. But at some point i think theres going to have to be a moment between Bernie Sanders and she because i am a believer that they share that lane. As the pressure builds on the mor moderates to get out, it will put pressure on warren from the bernie perspective to also exit this race because he needs that lane clear given that probably the moderate lane will win out. Can i just say a word about buttigieg . No one a year ago would have thought he would be in the conversation at all. Hes run an extraordinary campaign, but he made a bet, and that bet was he could do so well in iowa and New Hampshire that he would get escape velocity and get a look in nevada and a look in South Carolina and that he could build on that. He came awfully close if iowa had announced the results that night, he might have gotten a bigger bounce. Amy klobuchar doesnt have a great debate in New Hampshire. And then were having a different conversation. But tonight looking at these numbers, if youre Pete Buttigieg, you have to really consider whether you want to continue, especially given your message of bringing people together. Coming up, joe biden talks about his win in South Carolina. Weve awaiting that and sets the stage for the big super tuesday battle next week am well carry it live. Youve been hearing a lot about 5g. You have power over pain, so the whole world looks different. The unbeatable strength of advil. What pain . More votes are coming in. Lets do another key race alert. We projected joe biden is the winner for the democratic president ial primary. Right now 14 of the estimated vote is now in. Hes got 53 . Bernie sanders in second place, 16. 4 . Tom steyer, 12. 1 . Everybody else in Single Digits in South Carolina right now. Lets go over to john king. John, were waiting for biden. Were told hes going to be speaking fairly soon. Well have live coverage of that. Youre looking closely at this map and it looks like that dark blue for joe biden is doing really well. So far the biden blue filling in over county. Hes leading in every county that has reported results so far in the state of South Carolina tonight. All the more reason to get out early and try to project optimism as you go into super tuesday. Since the last time you were here, this is the important number. Only at 14 statewide, but for senator sanders up at 16 now, if he stays above 15 , that gets him some of the statewide delegates. 15 is the viability threshold, so keep an eye on that number. This is the blowout at the moment for joe biden. Sanders at 16 . Tom steyer at 12 . Mayor buttigieg at 7. 2 . You see the rest way down there. Its just impressive as it fills in, more counties since last time you were here, Richland County, the capital of columbia, suburbs around it, democratic establishment, joe biden getting 44 there. Fairfield county, a suburban area here, gets more rural as you go to the north here. In the larger counties where the population lives, greenville is your largest county in the state, 43 . Again, these are important numbers. Its a huge blowout for biden. When he get to congressional districts later for detectlegat you want to see where theyre over 15 . Spartanberg, sanders at 17 here. So hes probably got a few delegates, at least it looks that way early on. 48 for former Vice President. You get more rural, right in the middle. 46 here. I talked about this earlier. The question for joe biden is this is the northern boarder of South Carolina. North carolina votes on tuesday. Can he springboard this into super tuesday . I want to show the sweep of the victory, wolf. In other states weve seen a difference, but these are the least wealthy counties in South Carolina. The poorest counties in South Carolina. Anyone that has reported results, joe biden is leading. Lets look at it in a different way. Turn this off, the least wealthy, and look at the wealthiest counties in South Carolina. Any of those counties that have reported results, joe biden is leading. So this is a sweep across the state, if you will. Hes winning broadly and widely and the depth of the coalition quite impressive. You see more of them filling in as were standing here, more biden blue. Certainly does look like a blowout right now. Biden doing incredible well in South Carolina and it bodes well in some of the other states that vote on tuesday. You certainly hope so. If you pull out the map and look at it again, the lighter gray, the 14 states that vote super tuesday. American samoa also super tuesday. Its these 14 states twist prize is california. Second is texas. Third is South Carolina. Theyre similar. Similar states. You have the Research Triangle here. Its a giant percentage of africanamerican votes in the democratic primary. Virginia, terry mcauliffe, Hillary Clintons running mate in 2016 endorsing joe biden. Tennessee, large africanamerican population. A giant africanamerican vote in the democratic primary in the state of alabama. Arkansas is significant as well. Texas, you have a latino africanamerican break, about 20 africanamerican or larger. And in parts of california the africanamerican vote is significant. Bernie sanders is leading in california and texas. The challenge for joe biden, the question is this momentum from this blowout enough to lift him in these states, maybe not to catch up to Bernie Sanders, but to get up to 15 statewide to get delegates and then doing business in the districts more tailored to his base. This is the big challenge for biden which is why what we hear from him is going to be so important. Can he project confidence and momentum as we go into 14 states tuesday night . What will be the impact if other candidates drop out . Joe biden is getting ready to talk about his blowout primary win. We also expect to hear from Bernie Sanders. Thats soon. Liberty. Liberty. Welcome back. Were standing by to hear from joe biden, the big winner in the democratic president ial primary in South Carolina. Hes expected to speak very soon. We also expect to hear from Bernie Sanders. Well have live coverage, all that coming up. Were getting new reporting now from cnns jeff zeleny. What are you learning, jeff . These results are coming in in South Carolina, certainly it is not a good night for many of these candidates but there is not a rush top push some of them out of the race, at least in the view of the Biden Campaign. Particularly Amy Klobuchar of minnesota and Elizabeth Warren of massachusetts. Here is why. Minnesota and massachusetts are both super tuesday states. Im talking to advisers from all campaigns, including from biden, and they say they would like to keep senator klobuchar in the race. They hope she stays in the race through super tuesday. They want her to be competitive in minnesota, otherwise it could hand it to Bernie Sanders. Youll remember from four years Bernie Sanders won minnesota by some 62 points. So they certainly do not want him to have that to his own there. Same with Elizabeth Warren with massachusetts. They want them to stay in. Wolf, the Big Questions facing all these candidates, what are they going to do . I talked to advisers from all of them. Theyre saying they are going to stay in through super tuesday, but that can change very quickly. Wolf, the biggest question of all is Michael Bloomberg and his campaign. What does he plan to do in the wake of the South Carolina victory for joe biden . We do not know the answer to that. But for now at least, the super tuesday contests of minnesota and massachusetts, that is good for the Biden Campaign, they believe, for having Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar still in the race. Interesting indeed. Jeff zeleny reporting for us. Dana, theres not much time between now and tuesday. Thats right. And that is the reason why jeff is giving that excellent reporting that the perspective is coming from the Biden Campaign. Lets dig in on what exactly hes talking about just to show you the raw numbers. Elizabeth warren, massachusetts has 91 delegates. Even if she doesnt win there, shes going to get some of the 91 delegates, unless its something unbelievable that happens. Thats her home state. Even if Bernie Sanders wins, that will keep the number of delegates that he will get in the totality of the night down. Same goes for minnesota. Amy klobuchars campaign is insisting theyre going to win there. If she doesnt win, there are 75 delegates at stake in minnesota. Bernie sanders could do okay there, but Amy Klobuchar will definitely keep his margin down no matter what happens. And i was just texting with a big biden donor who was saying the way that he looked at it is that super tuesday has to be a wash for Bernie Sanders and joe biden because the big concern, and this is going to what jeff zeleny was talking about, is that because texas, for example, and california are so delegaterich and the latest polls show Bernie Sanders doing incredibly well, that he will be unstoppable. Not that he will actually get the 1991 delegate to win, but nobody will be able to get close to him and will it will make it a guarantee that it will be a mess at the convention. More than 1,300 delegates at stake tuesday night, almost half are from california and texas, 600 plus, about 650 from those they dont two states, so the margins are going to matter, which is why joe biden is hoping for a momentum boost. Is he going to catch fwhaernber sanders in california, probably not. Two things are important, how many delegates does joe biden get tonight. How close can he get . Can he catch Bernie Sanders tonight. The optics of momentum heading into tuesday, that this is not a sanders blowout, this is a very competitive race to rally your piece of the base. To danas point . Maybe win in tennessee or virginia. Which is why you see where they go on the map, follow the candidates in the next 72 hours to do this. Sanders in virginia tonight, down in norfolk. He understands he did not do what he thought he was going to do in South Carolina. He did not cut into joe bidens deep support among africanamericans. Watch the chess of the candidates going forward. I happen to know a few people in massachusetts texting about Elizabeth Warren because Bernie Sanders was just there in my home state for two events today. Very smart Democratic Political praifrts up there say its a coin toss. They believe the Warren Sanders race is between the two of them, but its incredibly close right now. I want to highlight real quick the last thing that jeff zeleny reported, and that is about Michael Bloomberg. The conversations were is there any possibility Michael Bloomberg says im not even going to make it till super tuesday. Im going to bow out and get my support behind joe biden in order to consolidate. His Campaign Says thats not going to happen, no way, no how. Hes on the ballot for the first time on super tuesday. It doesnt mean those conversations arent happening, and the question is how it ends. Lets listen in. [ cheers ] thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Virginia Beach and norfolk. [ cheers ] and let me start off by thanking herb jones. Too long we have taken veterans in this country for granted. We have sent them off to wars and too often those wars were wars that should never have been fought. [ cheers ] and then after they put their lives on the line and they come home, sometimes injured in body and sometimes injured in spirit, we have forgotten about them. So my promise to the veterans of this country, and i say this as the former chairman of the u. S. Senate committee on veterans affairs, our administration will never forget the veterans. [ cheers ] and our administration will never put the men and women in the armed forces in wars that should not be fought. [ cheers ] we are here tonight because we are determined that donald trump will be a oneterm president. [ cheers ] the American People, no matter what their political views may be, do not want a president in office who is a pathological liar. [ cheers ] who is running a corrupt administration. Who apparently has never read the constitution of the United States. And who every day through his attacks on the media, on the judiciary, on congress is undermining american democracy. [ cheers ] veterans like herb and millions of others have put their lives on the line to defend our democracy and our constitution, and donald trump will not undermine american democracy. [ cheers ] now, i am very proud that in this campaign so far weve won the popular vote in iowa. [ cheers ] we have won the New Hampshire primary. [ cheers ] we have won the nevada caucus. [ cheers ] but you cannot win them all. A lot of states out there, and tonight we did not win in South Carolina. And that will not be the only defeat. There are a lot of states in this country, nobody wins them all. I want to congratulate joe biden on his victory tonight. And now we enter super tuesday in virginia. [ cheers ] senator Bernie Sanders looking forward to super tuesday after the showing tonight in South Carolina. You see it this on the right side of your screen, joe biden 51. 6 of the vote. Sanders with 17 . Tom steyer after putting in an awful lot of money at 12 . You see the rest of the numbers there. Back now with our team. Where does it race first of all, why has joe biden not spoken . Ask terry mcauliffe. What a statement, though, for biden. I mean, you dont see that kind of a spread very often in a serious race where millions of dollars were spent, big, big process now. The process now, though, were just figuring out whos going to be the antibernie candidate, to figure out whos going to come out and whos going to stay in. But i think people should be very clear, some of these people were saying should get out, second choice, Bernie Sanders. So its not like just because people come out of this race, everybody is going to consolidate with biden. Bernie sanders has a broad and wide appeal. So this is still going to be a messy process moving forward. But to the extent that somebody stands up and says i can be the one to go up against bernie, thats what biden did tonight. Well, this is a blowout for biden. Theres no other way to describe it. Its not just a win, its not just a doubledigital margin. Its a blowout for joe biden. And that gives him an awful lot of credibility in this race, which he didnt have before, and it gives him an awful lot of momentum and probably will get him a lot of money which he didnt have before. As zeleny was reporting, theres a lot of strategizing going on. Steyer, i dont think theres any road. I think hell get out. The question is, as jeff points out, which is does biden, if he wants to emerge as the contender to Bernie Sanders who is a favorite here, still the favorite candidate here, what does he do . Does he keep Amy Klobuchar in as jeff was saying so she can do well . I dont believe anybody keeps her. Would he preferrer to stay in so she can do well in minnesota and perhaps sanders wouldnt win in that state . Does he want Elizabeth Warren to stay in . These are discussions we could be having right now. Its not up to biden. We understand that. But this notion that they should all get out governor . This is going to move very quick. Youre talking 48 hours. I dont think much is going to happen. I think pete ran a great campaign, hes got to make a decision tomorrow what hes going to do. I agree with you on tom steyer, but this is two days away. Bidens got a hope in the Southern States. He can continue with that africanamerican vote and really get some excitement out of tonight. And then get through super tuesday and then hope for a wash as much as you possibly can, and then you have a lot of big states coming up, illinois and missouri, mitchigan. Go ahead. Thank you. Joe biden is the new comeback kid. Last week i said that some other candidate should pull an andrew yang. Wh whether they should be in the race based on three things. Number one, can you win. Number two, are you helping your cause by staying, and number three, are you helping to defeat donald trump by staying. And i concluded the answers to those questions were no, and i dropped out. Now, every candidate in the race has run a tremendous campaign. They can walk out with theirs heads held high, and all of them are considered our friends, so its hard to say you should make this decision, but i will say to them, if you get out, its not terrible having a camera in your face 24 7. Your families will be happy to see you. And you missed a lot of good tv and movies. I love the way you look in the camera and say its not the worst thing to have a camera in your face. You know what David Letterman said about retiring, he said make sure to check in with your family first. Just to put this into context, i think joe biden did extremely, extremely well here, but hes the former Vice President of the United States. A year ago he was polling well over the margin he is now. Thats something that we have to Pay Attention to. Its the first primary hes won in, what, 32 years after his third run for president. So i think heading into super tuesday i think the money question is going to come into play. Well see if this gives him a bump. But also the next generation of democratics voters that are younger, that are blacker, that are browner, and they are a rising electorate in california and texas and are motivated by someone like Bernie Sanders. So i think that that is sort of an area that biden has to improve on heading into some of these more larger, diverse delegaterich states. At one time whole biden argument that he can appeal to White Working Class voters in ohio. If you look at these exit polls, thats interesting here because this was a blowout and biden is winning in almost every category. If you look at white no college degree, working class, bernie still beats him. 3123. I dont know if these numbers will stick, but bernie still beats him with white, no college degree, in a state where biden had a blowout. That is something to put a little asterisk next to here on the campaign. 48 hours from now were going to be talking about Bernie Sanders again because of what you were just saying, his strength in california is unreal. And people have been voting in california for a while. Im sorry, go ahead. Lets not forget some of the stuff the momentum that bernie brought into other states has been baked in. Californias been voting for a month. Youre right about that. You know, one of the interesting we were having this discussion in between. Some of the bloomberg folks argue that its actually in bidens benefit for him to be in super tuesday because the nature of the process is under which that if candidates pass threshold, they get some delegates. If only one candidate passes the threshold, that candidate gets all the delegates. So having more people getting delegates could actually hold down thats what i was addressing before. If youre biden and you got to worry about all of this, if this happens, this happens. Probably why he hasnt spoken yet, hes doing the math. The algorithm of these people dropping and limiting sanders here, thats pretty complicated. Sanders on the other hand has the money. Hes got the grassroots organization. Hes got goth this Younger Generation that alexandria has been talking about. So thats why i think as van said, were going to be talking about sanders and should be talking about sanders. The way were talking about biden doesnt suggest that hes strong. It suggests hes fairly weak and he has to depend on other factors. Thats the point i was making is that it compounds. If bernies the only one who is getting beyond the margin and youve got five or six others who are under, theyre compounding the size by which hes won that state. So its very, very difficult. You need to know how many are going to be beyond the 15 threshold to know whether its to the advantage. The way theyre splitting this vote up, you can say whatever you want, pete and amy all in a similar space. You look at a state like virginia, you know, bloombergs been on tv now for months and months. Hes got about probably 20 of the vote. Hes been between 19 and 20 . That is directly out of joe biden. Thats the question. I mean, the question is, is he staying some vote that isnt going to that wouldnt go to biden and by being viable, zefrdsdoes he take a part. This whole equation is different. Well take a break and then hear live from Vice President joe biden. If you have moderate to severe psoriasis. Or Psoriatic Arthritis, little things, can become your big moment. From where we sit, just down the street, near the post office, by the park, when we stop and look around, what we see are sparks. Sparks of hope, of compassion, of communities who stand firm. When neighbors lift each other up, expecting nothing in return. Were grateful for what you bring, and all the sparks youve shown, in the thousands of towns that we get to call home. Were standing by to hear from the winner of the South Carolina democratic president ial primary, joe biden. Hes about to speak. Im curious to see how he portrays a very impressive, stunning victory. We heard so many joe biden speeches in our lifetimes. Weve never heard a joe Biden Victory speech during a president ial run because, despite the fact that hes run twice before, it has been mentioned he didnt stay in long enough to win any contests. Well, this is the first one. And so its going to be sweet for him to give that speech. But its not just obviously going to be important for that moment, but its going to be important for the momentum that he absolutely needs to use, the love that he feels there, the passion that he feels there, which is real given how unbelievable his victory appears to be in South Carolina, and he has to propel particularly into the states that are most like South Carolina. Theyre not as delegate rich as some of the bigger ones on super tuesday, but every delegate matters right now because, remember, for the democrats, it is proportional. Im sure well be hearing the fact that he was president obamas Vice President for eight years. Look, the obama factor among South Carolina, africanamerican voters, africanamerican voters around the country, its important that joe biden has a relationship. He has a history. I think it was van jones or somebody earlier saying he had obamas back for eight years, and now africanamerican voters are saying when we your back. Can he project that further, he needs this to be momentum into these other states, North Carolina, neighborhoods South Carolina, tennessee, alabama, virginia, plenty of places on the map tuesday where Bernie Sanders as of today is expected to get the most delegates. Plenty of places where joe biden can play if he can replicate what he did in South Carolina tonight. The challenge is, time is so short. What does he say here . Its saturday night, but he has an audience here to make this speech and it will be replayed over the next couple days. Can he do something, make a compelling case . Were watching congressman clyburn there. Sometimes endorsements dont matter some of which, people dont put as much faith in institutions, if you will, or brands as they used to. This is one that did. This is one that did f. Joe biden can somehow go on and win the presidency, James Clyburn is the secretary of whatever he wants. Its interesting. Clyburns endorsement was significant. But the Campaign Manager for Michael Bloomberg, kevin shaky making it clear hes not dropping out. Thats right. Were going to listen into jim clyburn and then well talk about that on the other side. Of this business and take us to where this country can be. Ladies and gentlemen, my good friend, one who i know, who you know, but most of all, who knows us. [ cheers and applause ] [ cheers ] [ cheers ] thank you, thank you thank you. Thank you. [ cheers ] thank you. Thank you. Thank you, thank you thank you, South Carolina [ cheers ] my buddy, jim klie burn, you brought me back. [ cheers ] this is a man for all of you have to be counted out, left behind, this is your campaign. Just days ago the press and the pundits had declared this candidacy dead. Now thanks to all of you, the heart of the Democratic Party we just won and weve won big because of you. [ cheers and applause ] and we are very much alive. Look, i told you all that you could launch a candidacy. You launched bill clinton, barack obama to the presidency. Now you launched us on the path to defeating donald trump. This campaign has taken off. So join us. Go to joebiden. Com. We need you. We want you, and theres a place for you in this campaign. Folks, as we celebrate tonight here in colombia, let me talk directly to democrats across america. Especially those who will be voting on super tuesday. This is the moment to choose the path forward for our party. This is the moment, and its arrived. Maybe sooner than anyone guessed it would. But its here. And the decisions democrats make all across america the next few days will determine what this party stands for, what we believe, and what well get done. If democrats nominate me, i believe we can beat donald trump. [ cheers and applause ] keep nancy pelosi in the house of representatives as speaker and take back the United States senate. Join us. My fellow democrats across america, join us. If democrats want to nominate someone who will build on obama care, not scrap it, take on gun manufacture manufacturers, not protect them, stand up and give the poor a fighting chance and the middle class get restored, not raise their taxes and keep the promises we make, then join us. And if the democrats want a nominee whos a democrat, a lifelong democrat, a proud democrat, an obamabiden doct s democrat, then join us. We have the option of winning big or losing big. Thats the choice. We need to build on the coalition and legacy of the most successful president of our lifetime, barack obama. The way we do this is by bringing americans together of every race, ethnicity, gender, economic station, democrats, republicans, independents, people of every stripe. Look, just like we did here in South Carolina. And like we can do across the entire country on tuesday and beyond. Folks, win big or lose. Thats the choice. Most americans dont want the promise of revolution. They want more than promises. They want results. They want to give all americans access to real opportunity. To be able to have Affordable Health care for all americans. An environment with clean air, clean water and education that funds our schools. Pays our teachers, makes Community College free, a nation that will stand up to and beat the nra. Reform our criminal justice system, mobilize the world against Climate Change, and an economy that works. Rewards work, not just wealth. My dad used to say joe, a job is a lot more than the paycheck. Its about your deignity. Its about respect and your place in the community. Its being able to look your kid in the eye and say honey, its going to be okay for all our families, for all our communities. Because thats the right thing to do. Thats what makes us democrats. Talk is cheap. False promises are deceptive. And talk about revolution and changing anyones life, we need real changes right now. Ing there ive done my whole career, and ill do it as president. So this is an election to spend all our time in the battle for the soul of the Democratic Party. This is a battle for the soul of the United States of america. Were in a perilous moment as all of you know. Winning means uniting america, not sewing more division and anger. It means not only fighting but winning the country. We cant become like them. We cant become like them. We cant have a never ending war. Above all, its time for america to get back up. The country is so ready. So ready. Once again, fight through the proposition that we hold these truths to be selfevident that all men and women are created equal. We say it all the time. But weve never fully lived up to it. Weve never before until this president walked away from it. And its the reason why jim and i and all of us are in this. I believe with every fiber of my being that all men and women are created equal. You know, i saw it a few days ago in a town hall in charleston, jim. I spoke with reverence Anthony Thompson whose wife was studying the words of her bible with eight other parishioners in mother emmanuel four and a half years ago. It was a weekly routine, reading scripture and finding purpose and faith in god and in each other. And in an instant, hate, vengeance, White Supremacy pierced that faith. And they were lost forever. You know what i found the most remarkable thing in my career thus far . Remarkable about reverend thompson and the families of the emanuel nine . Through all that pain, all that grief, they forgave. And heres the deal. In their forgiveness, they brought more change to South Carolina than any thats occurred over the previous 100 years. Think about it. [ cheers and applause ] the Confederate Flag came down. Real change. Thats why the sunday after jill and i, my family, we came back to the church on sunday services after the funeral of the victims. Six weeks earlier we had lost our son, beau, and we needed to be healed too. We needed to be healed. I really men this. We needed whatever they were exuding. And with every season thats passed, theyve gotten up and found purpose to live life worthy of the ones they lost. Worthy of the blessings to live in this remarkable country. We left here having arrived in overwhelming pain thinking we can do this. We get through this. So i want to tell you, its no small reason why im in this race. People like all of you here tonight all around the country, the days of Donald Trumps divisiveness will soon be over. [ cheers and applause ] and jim was right. We call our democracy america. It cant survive unless we focus on our goodness. We can build a more perfect union. Because the American People in the last 3 1 2 years have seen the alternative. I really mean it. Think about it. Theyve seen how mean, selfish, lack of any sense of empathy or concern for anybody else a president who not only has horrible policies but the way he mocks and makes fun of other people. All of you here in South Carolina, and especially jim clyburn, my friend, who lifted me and this campaign on his shoulders, but i mean all of you. Many i dont have time to name, all of you, we, jill and i, our daughter, ashley, my son hunter who has been on the phone straight through for me. My brother, my sister, my two brothers, my sister, my five grandchildren. My four granddaughters who have come on the campaign trail will never forget what youve done for us. Well, we can say without fear of contradiction, the bidens love you guys, man. The bidens love you. Thats real. Folks, now we need to stand behind jaime harrison, the next senator of South Carolina. We need to send Joe Cunningham back to the house of representatives. And all of us, all the bidens thank you, thank you for everything, everything youve done for us. Folks, heres the deal. Lets get back up. Were decent. Were brave. Were resilient people. We can believe again. Were better than this. Get up. Take back our country. This is the United States of america. Theres nothing beyond our capacity if we do it together. God bless you all and may god protect our children. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Joe biden speaking in colombia, South Carolina tonight after his massive win in that state. Quite a speech from joe biden. That was the first time that i felt in this campaign that the obama biden spirit of hope and optimism, he turned it personal. He took it back to the church. He took it back to his own personal pain. Hes making this campaign a symbol of coming through, of finding your way. Hes turning the break down to a breakthrough, and hes hitting emotional spir dhitual notes th the country needs. That was medicine, and that was beautiful. One of the things that has confused me about the biden candidacy is that it devolved in kind of to a tactical argument. Hes the guy who can beat trump, but not enough about why he should, and why his comparative advantage in this race is decency, empathy, humanity. The heart, man. In a sense in his speech, he got back to his entry into the race, into the video he produced. Yeah. His appeal to the end. Often in debates he talks about im the guy who did this. I met this person as opposed to the things at town halls which he speaks about. Those are the best moments in the campaign. The town halls where hes talking to people, ministering to their concerns and fears and loss. Because they know he has experienced loss. And he understands that pain. That is the essence of his appeal and the closer he stays to that, because these are elements that people dont see in the president. They dont see empathy. They dont see humanity. They dont see connection or caring. Its interesting when you think about joe biden going toe to toe with donald trump on a debate stage. And theres all sorts of reasons you can say well, the president will be aggressive and joe biden might be faltering in bringing out facts and stuff. The arena in which the president can never compete with joe biden is as a human being talking from the heart. They are flip sides. And there is no way trump is has no empathy. Not about empathy. Never has been, and joe biden is mr. Empathy. Joe biden on a good day is a happy warrior. Donald trump is just a warrior. And so theyre nothing alike, and the contrast if they would ever get on a debate stage together would be stark. And the thing that struck me tonight as david was saying about biden and he said it in the town hall. He talked about after his son died he had to find purpose, and he found it in the church in South Carolina. And i think tonight he spoke to that purpose in his life again, because you have a sense hes an older man. Hes done a lot in Public Service which has been his life. And this is now his purpose, to build on a legacy of barack obama. To bring the country to unify the country and to take the divisiveness out of the country. And thats never going to happen in the shortterm. But you had a sense that this is why this is the answer. Why are you running for president . The challenge also distinguished himself, i think from others in the field. There were some lines he offered that were memorable. I wrote down talk of revolution is not changing anyones life. I think we know who hes referring to. Something else, anderson, that i noted with jim clyburns presence is the Washington Post is reporting tonight that as recently as february 23rd, biden and clyburn met and clyburns polling at that point showed that the margin was down to five points. I dont know exactly where we are right now, but its a double digit probably 20point plus lead he enjoys. To think as recently as the 23rd it was just down to 5, and why among other things did it grow so large . Its because clyburn decided to get in and get knee deep in this and endorse the Vice President. Im saying i think he owes a debt of gratitude. Theres no doubt about it. Or clyburn has said that they got to retool this campaign. Hes not going to sit by and watch the folks running this campaign mishandle the campaign. And you can sort of see that happening already. Obviously in South Carolina that endorsement paid off big. Folks were on the ground who support clyburn and then supporting biden as well. And then this speech as well. They have retooled the campaign. Theres new folks who are involved like anita dun. It was a perfectly well written speech. It was very moving. It reminded people of the joe that they love. The personal stories about his loss. About his faith. And also the connection to obama. Right . And incremental change that he thinks is more realistic than revolution. I think that i agree with my colleagues here that this was one of a better speech for joe biden than i think weve seen. Theres a lot of reasons for him to celebrate. I think he showed in some of the town halls he can get really personal and really empathetic with folks and i think hearing that line about the revolution, you know, coming from the perspective of a young person that i feel like is always told to get involved. Right . The Younger Generation. I think there are so many movements that have changed. The material lives of people across america not just in the 1960s but Bernie Sanders running for president obviously not winning in 2016 has completely shifted the conversation on universal health care where you have someone like joe biden who is staunchly against public option now campaigning on that. Right . You have someone like Vladimir Putin Pete Buttigieg talking about medicare for all. I think the same empathy should be taken into account to the next generation of democratic voters. Millennials are starting to turn 40. Its the consequences of decades of bad decisions by both parties. Not just republicans. I think its part of the reason why Bernie Sanders is doing so well. And i hope that same empathy is extended to the next generation that look more like aoc. The other message tonight as well is he was making the point that im the best one to help the ticket. This is about nancy pelosi increasing seats in the house and getting control of the United States senate. Thats a big argument for joe biden. He put that out there tonight. Im the best one to be the standard bearer to help us win in the house and senate, and with all the issues we got going on in the world today, with coronavirus and the trump calling it a hoax, they want someone with experience and leadership. Heres the thing, ive spoken before and after joe maybe dozens of times, and that was the best ive ever seen him. You know, i think the intro when it says that you know joe and joe knows you, i think the essence of that was you had the sense that joe cares about you in america. He does very deeply. I feel like if bernie represents anger and revolution, bloomberg represents wealth and managerial competence. I feel like biden is caring, empathy, and patriotism. If hes able to demonstrate that in a way thats not talking about how hes going to win but showing the qualities, i think this has a chance to be a transformative moment. The impact of joe bidens win. Will some of the candidates drop out . Thats next. And my lack of impulse control, is about to become your problem. Ahh no, come on. I saw you eating poop earlier. My focus is on the road, and thats saving me cash with drivewise. woman no matter what business you are in, Digital Transformation never stops. And hes funding Cutting Edge Research to contain epidemics. Tested. Ready. Mike im Mike Bloomberg and i approve this message. Got a key race alert. An impressive, very impressive win for the former Vice President , joe biden. A blowout win in South Carolina, the democratic president ial primary. Take a look at this board. Half the vote, the estimated vote is in. 66 of the vote is in. And look at this, oe biden has 50. 1 the second place right now Bernie Sanders 19. Only 19 . Tom steyer third place, 11. 7 . Pete buttigieg all in Single Digits that remain. Pete buttigieg 7. 7 . Elizabeth warren 6. 6 . Amy klobuchar only 3. 1 . Gabbard at 1. 1 . Impressive win for joe biden. Lets come to the table as were getting ready to assess whats going on. We have some major breaking news right now. I want to bring in jeff zeleny. What are you learning . Were learning in a few moments or so in South Carolina tom steyer is going to end his president ial candidacy. Hes going to make these remarks in his speech in South Carolina. He is running third place as you were just saying there. But i am told by someone close to his campaign that he is going to end his candidacy. It is unclear if hes going to announce his support for someone else in the race. I do not believe that is going to happen this evening. But this is significant. Because tom steyer put his personal wealth behind his candidacy. He spent some 2 2 million in advertising alone in the state of South Carolina. Getting third place. It helped him to some degree, but his aides do not see a path forward for him. His objective has always been to try to defeat the president. We expect him to be involved. Hes been actively involved in politics in terms of registering people to vote. The impeachment proceedings, et cetera. I am told he is going to stop his candidacy tonight in South Carolina. So the question here is as this is he the only one w is going to be making this decision here in the wake of this first in the south primary . Certainly this is a decision time for all of these candidates. But we do know tonight that tom steyer in a short time will announce hes dropping out of the race. Well hear what he has to say. Jeff zeleny, excellent reporting. This is an important moment. Tom steyer, if he continued, he has a lot hes a billionaire. He could have spent a lot more. He sees the handwriting on the wall . Hes in third place in South Carolina. Its a big deal given the fact that hes never held office before. But he has not gotten a delegate as far as we know. Hes under 15 . Perhaps if he gets that threshold in one of the congressional districts, then he will get a delegate. To spend as much as he has and ill pull it up here, just remember, 22. 5 million. Thats television and rid owe ads in South Carolina. He completely trounced the other candidates when it came to spending. Thats not including the direct mail and other Campaign Staff and other spending that he did there. And the other thing i want to put out as a question is whether or not despite his money that he could put behind other candidates, whether or not it makes much of a difference when it comes to other candidates getting his support, because he has no delegates to date. Zero delegates to date. It didnt look like ahead in some of the big states he was going to get any at all. The question is do other candidates see him drop out and think maybe i should have that conversation with myself . Thats the impact, to get the other candidates to think about it. Am i making an impact on the race. In our california poll, steyer was at 3 . Texas 1 . Its not like its creating a giant opening to take a pool of voters that would otherwise be for sotom steyer. South carolina was his best state. Im going to glance and look. 11. 8 statewide. Thats nowhere near a return on the investment. And some credit. He did spend a boat load of money, but a lot of time. He tried to develop relationships in the community. He worked hard. His wife moved to South Carolina, more or less. He did a ton of events there and tried to develop a decent base in the African American community. It didnt work. My only question here is he doesnt have a big impact in future states. He doesnt have a Big Reservoir of support. Do others say thats whats happening, maybe i should think about it. Being in South Carolina, talking to African American voters, he did have a presence there. And it wasnt just johnny come lately coming in to say im here, please vote for me in this president ial primary. He and his wife invested in the African American communities years ago, and that stuck. Just one quick anecdote. The uber driver that david and i had two days before our town hall, he was going to vote for tom steyer. Heard that jim clyburn had endorsed joe biden, and realtime we told him, and realtime he said well, maybe ill change my mind. Im guessing he wasnt alone. Wolf . Thanks very much. Im here with david chalon. Were talking about the all important delegate count. Lets talk about the delegate count tonight. What do we see happening right now . Well, as you see here, 54 delegates are at stake tonight in South Carolina. We have been able to assign 22 of them. 19 for joe biden. Three for Bernie Sanders. Thats because you see he is above that 15 threshold statewide. He may be in some congressional districts as well. Right now we have 32 more delegates out of South Carolina to assign tonight but look at that. That shows the depth of the Biden Victory, not just in the vote totals but in the delegate hall tonight. Hes so far netting what does that mean for the delegate count to date, four states . Take a look. You need 1991 delegates to win the nomination. Were at 48 delegates for sanders now. 34 for biden. 26 for buttigieg. 8 for warren. 7 for klobuchar. Joe biden is making real gains on Bernie Sanders in this delegate count. As you know, wolf, the first four states are really about momentum. This delegate game goes on super drive when we get to super tuesday. Certainly will. 14 state. 60 of the vote is in, john king. A very impressive win for the former Vice President. Its a blowout with an exclamation point. This is a 30point win. There was a poll a week ago with joe biden up two. Another that had him up five. Midweek one had him up 20. Everyone thought whats right . The clyburn endorsement helped. The Biden Campaign, thats a blowout. Were at 60 . Hes winning. And this tells you everything you need to know. These are the counties of South Carolina. Go through them one at a time. 50 in Richland County. There are 46 counties. Two were waiting for results from, orangeberg, its going to fill in. Another one more of a rural county. 3 of the population. By the end of the night you can it looks like biden is winning every county in South Carolina. What about Bernie Sanders . Hes coming in second, i assume, in some places . Thats why hes going to get some delegates. Not coming in first anywhere. Joe biden is winning first everywhere reporting. In all the counties Bernie Sanders came in second. Add in more where he was third. Earlier in the he was below 50 , the threshold to get delegates. Hes going to get some of the statewide delegates because hes above 15 . He may pick up congressional delegates as well when we get the full count and we can overlap that. Sanders coming out with some delegates but this is overwhelming, especially if you take it in the context, the other states. Remember, iowa went first. Buttigieg, but very narrowly. And look at the competition throughout the state. Several candidates winning counties across iowa nature 99 over here in a close race. And you move over to New Hampshire, this is a state Bernie Sanders won in a blowout. A close race in New Hampshire. Three candidates close. Especially the top two very close, and you see the votes split between several of the candidat candidates. You had some buttigieg here. Impressive here. Two close races in the first two. A blowout for sanders in nevada. Caucuses there. And then you come here to the first primary where the African American vote maerttered most, d its a blowout. Filling in biden blue as it was clinton blue. You come out here and look at this. We wait for the rest to come in. Its a big win. The question is as you heard the biden speech, went at Bernie Sanders. We dont need a revolution or false promises. We need an obamabiden democrat. Does this spring board to other states . Well be back on tuesday. It will be fun. Coming up, jill bidens wife on his win in South Carolina and his battle against Bernie Sanders on super tuesday. Well be right back. If you looked at america like a bird and that was all you knew, would you really understand it, with just that point of view . Weve got a different way to look at it. From right here on the ground. We dont just the United States. We see united towns. How we worship, or who we love. And the 2020 census is how that great promise is kept. I want to go to cnns jessica dean in colombia, South Carolina for us. Shes got a special guest. Jessica . Thats right, wolf, were here with dr. Jill biden. Your victory speech, dr. Biden, South Carolina is personal to your family. Its where you came after your son died to grieve. Ironically, after this what has been a bruising primary process, very personal in terms of the attacks, they delivered this huge victory for you tonight. What does that feel like for you and your family . Its hard. As a mother, its very hard for me to see my son attacked, and to see my husband attacked. And these are all distractions for donald trump. It just shows you that donald trump doesnt want to run against joe biden because joe biden is going to beat him. And you guys certainly have a lot of personal relationships here. This is a lot of years youve been spending here. Weve been coming here for years and years. The clyburns and certainly emily was a strong force and friend, and you know, we have so many relationships, and i look forward to coming back. Reporter and now, though, youve got to go travel to youre going out i think its fair to say youre your husbands favorite surrogate. Youre going to go now to arkansas and yeah. Reporter youve been everywhere. You were in california this morning. What is the message youre going to be taking to people . Do you think you can take this momentum that you guys have here and really make a difference going into super tuesday . Yes. Absolutely. This is just the beginning. You know, im a marathon runner. This is just the beginning of our man on this this. We have other states to hit. Joe is president ial and has experience. I think were going to take it the whole way. Before we go, i want to say thank you to the people of South Carolina, because they opened their homes and their communities, but best of all, they opened their hearts to us and really, the bidens will never forget this. They gave us wings. And were so thankful. Its interesting you say that. I talked to a Senior Adviser who said money doesnt buy relationships. Its clearly a swipe at Michael Bloomberg. Were going into super tuesday. Thats a big strategy for him to win in some of these states like arkansas, tennessee, a message for him tonight . People see through that. Money cant buy people. I think he hasnt been out here. He hasnt been on the trail. He wasnt in the first four states and you saw his debate performances. And i think joe is just head and shoulders above Michael Bloomberg. So i think people are going to see that in joe. Reporter dr. Jill biden, thank you for being with us. We appreciate it. Wolf, back to you. Thank you very much, and thank jill biden for us as well. We have more to cover. We will right after a quick break. I am totally blind. And non24 can make me show up too early. Or too late. Or make me feel like im not really there. I said if i didnt see a path to winning that id suspend my campaign. And honestly, i cant see a path where i can win the presidency. So am i going to continue to work on every single one of these issues . Tom steyer dropping out of the race just moments ago. I want to talk about it with the group here. Andrew yang, its a decision you made. Looking at this rationally. Obviously theres a lot of emotion with a race, looking at it rationally. There wasnt a path ahead for you you saw, and that seems to be the decision he made as well. Yeah. Its not surprising to me that tom dropped out. I think that tom is a rational principaled actor. Hes not going to do something he thought was bad for the country. He ingestvested a lot of emerge in South Carolina. The question now is whether the other candidates follow suit. The big question marks are pete and even bloomberg. For bloomberg, hes likely to see super tuesday through, but if you make this decision before super tuesday, its much more impactful than if you make it after. Those with the conversations i think some other candidates should be having. Yeah. I think in a way he had no other choice, but it was the right statesman like thing to do. If you want a democrat to win, and if you spent also 210 million on radio and television, and you may not even get a delegate. Yeah. Out of tonight. And he as he said, he saw no path to the presidency. He did not endorse. So that will be an interesting question. And also, will he help any other candidate who is the nominee . I think he will. Go up against donald trump . Class act all the way. Tom steyer is somebody ive known personally for almost 20 years. Hes somebody who really does care about these issues. Hes not i heard Climate Change is a good issue and Racial Justice is popular. Let me do woke performance stuff. He believes in this stuff. And he put his money where his mouth is, and i think he did the right thing to back out. I hope other people will do the same thing. We need to clarify this race and give people a chance to vote for one part of this party or the other, and i think tom did the right thing tonight. Im not surprised. Governor, if youre team biden tonight, what are you doing to try to capitalize on this for super tuesday . Youre on the phone right now with tom steyer one of the first calls probably. The campaigns right now, anderson, theyre all talking to each other. I mean, they all know each other. Theyve all worked on campaigns. Theres a lot of interaction with the different campaigns right now. I think biden gave probably the speech of his life tonight. He said theres no greatness without goodness. I thought it was a very impacted speech. I think a lot of candidates who were watching this tonight said wow, i can see him as president. I think a lot of people saw that tonight. And i think that will have an impact on the candidates as well saying well, he put a great message out there. I think we ought to get behind him. Campaigns are talking. Im sure joe biden is on the phone right now with tom steyer as i assume bernie and everybody else. Clyburn earlier on cnn saying this has been a badly run campaign for biden. It needs to be revisited, retooled. He wants to get involved with it. How does that you know campaigns. How does that happen . I will tell you joe was better in the campaign. I cant answer like in iowa how there was virtually no field operation. It just didnt work. I dont know who someone ultimately has to be responsible. He was the Vice President. He was the front runner going into it. You would assume you could have picked up a lot of early support. I think one thing the Vice President waited to too long to get into the race. Thats the mechanism of politics but i think they retooled the campaign. Joe is going to drive it now. This was a huge win tonight. Nobody can say it wasnt. It was a huge win. There will be huge momentum coming out of this, and hell get a tremendous amount of Financial Support tonight. His online is through the roof tonight. Major donors will get behind him. Can i say this . I think he i agree with everything you said about his performance here, about his speech. But every campaign reflects the person at the top. Its not really true to say well, it one his fault his campaign didnt serve him well. The fact is that when youre the candidate, one of your responsibilities is to be the sort of chairman of the board of your campaign. And bidens never had Great Success in president ial politics before, and this is one of the reasons. Now, the question is has he had a wakeup call here . I thought his speech was magnificent tonight. Can he carry that message through every bit of his communications . Can he carry it through on the debate stage . Thats going to be the test for him. You cant just have one good night and the campaign cant just have one good primary. Theyve got to retool and hes got hes got to recognize that this has been a flaw, and not just this time but every time hes run for president. Is there something to be read into the fact that no one is seizing the moment right now . I remember when we were together and the governor said Amy Klobuchar should get out there, and she followed your advice. It seems to me this is a free Media Opportunity for the asking right now before super tuesday, and weve heard from senator sanders. Weve heard obviously from former Vice President biden. We just heard from tom steyer, but wheres everybody else . And should we be reading something into that, the fact they havent come out and said something . I think some of these folks are giving Campaign Speeches in different states. I think warren is down in texas, houston, texas. Of course, thats going to be a big contest on tuesday. I think shes hammering sanders and biden. I dont think were going to cover it, but i think theyre going to try to figure out what their message is going forward. For biden i think the question is can he be consistent . Can he show up as the biden we saw tonight, as the biden i think people remember from 2008 and 2012 and from standing by obama. It seems like the campaign has hidden him in some ways. You think about the other candidates out doing interviews all the time. Hasnt been the same with biden. Its apparently hes doing four sunday shows tomorrow. Unusual for him. The old advance man in me said you put an event together with Friendly Faces around tonight so people around the country watching see theres still life in your campaign. For those who have run campaigns on the panel, is this the conversation of should my candidate drop out . Is that a conversation the candidate and their campaign have already had . Has buttigieg, warren, klobuchar . I dont think you can have that conversation with a candidate who is out there trying to campaign. I think campaigns have had conversations internally about heres our situation. When are we going to talk to the candidate . When is the what is the recommendation were going to make . And i think those conversations are going to happen. Michael, i think one of the reasons why not everybody has stepped out tonight is because it is hard to just stop short and walk out and say okay, im out after devoting yourself and your whole organization which is why i asked the question. This is not something they have prethought out already because of the emotion and yeah. Im sorry. But youre not in one of the reasons theyre not in South Carolina is because they want South Carolina to be in the rearview mirror, and they dont want to come out and talk about how badly they did. If you look at all of our numbers, i mean, Bernie Sanders to his credit, came out, was not in South Carolina but came out and congratulated joe biden. And thats important. Thats important for democrats, i think. Yep. Its not its not easy. And youre just a recent candidate. Ive been a candidate. Ive won. Ive lost. You never think youre going to lose and you never want to get out. Lets be very clear. At some point your Campaign Manager and team has a tough conversation and comes in and says there is no pathway, or we dont have any money left. You as the candidate, you never want to get out. You always hope for the long ball. This is the moment. Yesterday wasnt the moment. This is the moment. South carolina primary is over. This is the moment to have that discussion. I mean, tom didnt decide just now to get out. He was having conversations with his team saying hey, if we dont hit a certain result in South Carolina, that gives us some kind of fuel moving forward, then well get out. So tom has been thinking about this. The other candidates are thinking the same thing. Theyre looking around the map and saying if we get this result in these states, then lets continuen. If we we dont, we consider dropping out. The race looking ahead is much better for biden. It becomes familiarity earned media and Advertising Campaign than it is the Retail Campaign that has gone on thus far. And joe is very strong obviously in familiarity and earned media. I think hes going to raise a truck ton of money. I think he may be firing on all cylinders shortly. Ive said this. At some point we finished super tuesday. Its going to come quick. Big states on st. Patricks day, arizona, illinois, florida, and ohio. Four big contests. That is those are very expensive media markets. Chicago. I think look, i think the teams know. Okay . They know. Everybody kind of knows what the score is. Its just a question of getting around the table and having that discussion and figuring out the you know, the orchestration. Theyre headed toward the exit. The fact that theyre not out. None of them can afford to get on television except Bernie Sanders. Right . One thing, though, is gabbard would have an event right now. No one is going to cover it. As a candidate, you know. If you were a campaign and you knew you were going to get coverage, of course youd give a speech. Theyre not going to get coverage. Why is she still in . I think shes running for different reasons. She said shes not running for congress. She has a different agenda. The conversation whats the agenda . What is it . To be a fox contributor . I dont have any information. Im assuming. Thats where she appears. I want to say Elizabeth Warren did speak tonight. I feel the conversation that we all want to know about is the one thats going on inside the Bloomberg Campaign. Money is not the issue. Put that aside. Its different from every campaign youve been in, governor. Its different, because its okay, we dont have to think about the money were going to raise. Its about something else. Its about how do we help a democrat get elected president . How do we not embarrass the candidate . I want to tell a bloomberg story. I think it will be helpful. So i had coffee with a marketing staff frer my campaign, and i was concerned what are you going to do next. He said dont worry. Im working at the Bloomberg Campaign and theyre paying me 2. 5 times what i got paid here. They have a massive operation that is leaps and bounds ahead of anything the dnc is employing in terms of data and resources. They have their own digital war room. So gloria, when you ask how is bloomberg going to make this decision . They have an incredible data theyre mapping. And bloomberg is saying if we get this in this place as soon as he has a clear picture from the data that hes not going to be contributing, hell be out. Thats what i was telling you before. What they are saying tonight is that their analytics suggest that the project of stopping Bernie Sanders or slowing him down would be better served by him being in for this round than out. That may have changed because of how biden performed tonight. But that is what that big war room is suggesting right now. Thats fascinating. Anderson, can i tell you i remember South Carolina primary 2008. We were broke, the clinton campaign. I remember it like it was yesterday. 7 00 in the morning before i flew for a meeting. I had to go in. Hillary, knocked on the door. I said listen, its going to continue, youre going to have to put your own money in. To their credit, hillary said ill do it. That sounds like a persuasive argument, actually. But these are hard decisions. If you cant put your own money in, the campaigns end. Ahead, reaction from some of biden. Im your 70lb st. Bernard puppy, and my lack of impulse control, is about to become your problem. Ahh no, come on. I saw you eating poop earlier. Hey my focus is on the road, and thats saving me cash with drivewise. Whos the dummy now . Whoof whoof so get allstate where good drivers save 40 for avoiding mayhem, like me. Sorry hes a baby that sofa on tv is iexactly what they need. And now, they know it too. Thats the power of targeted tv advertising. Its smart. It grabs peoples attention. Then they come to my store. Buy that sofa. And leave happy its easy, and its effective. And its why Comcast Spotlight is changing its name to effectv. Because being effective means getting results. Welcome back, lets get another key race alert right now. 87 of the estimated vote is now in. Theyre doing an impressive job counting votes in South Carolina. Joe biden is barely the winner. Right now way ahead of Bernie Sanders who only has 19. 5 . Tom steyer announced hes dropping out. Everybody else is Single Digits. Amy klobachar is with 3. 1 . Gabbard with 1. 2 . Lets check in with some of our reporters covering all of this. Ryan noble is at Virginia Beach. Set the scene for us, whats happen paragraph now as far as the sanders camp is concerned . Reporter well, there is no doubt that the Sanders Campaign is looking ahead to super tuesday. Thats one of the reasons they ended the night here in virginia. There is no doubt a little bit of angst in the Sanders Campaign tonight given where we thought they would be coming into tonight. They felt they were making progress in South Carolina and he ended up spending a lot more time in South Carolina than they originally planned. They never thought theyre going to win. They never also thought theyre going to lose by the margins that sanders lost by tonight. He did come in second place and every single one of the first Fourth Quarter contests and hes certainly one of the strongest positions heading into super tuesday. This is a bit of a knock to the campaign, something that sanders have to recover from. You heard him talk about here tonight wolff, he did mention brief mention of South Carolina, he congratulated joe biden and saying theyre focused on super tuesday. He believes there is still many wins in his virginia. Ryan nobles in Virginia Beach. Reporter steyer focusing in his speech on the issue that brought him into this campaign in the first place. He said to his supporters tonight that he had no regrets of the race despite the way it turned out for him. He felt it was an amazing experience and particularly here in South Carolina he intends to stay involve. He says i am not leaving. He feels the fight here is his fight as well. He was a flinfluential donor an activist before he became a president ial candidate. We can expect him to stay involved even if he does not endorse. Thats an open question. Really what happens here with tom steyers campaign. South carolina was the strongest state for them. You can hear his campaign. An excuse for voters to give him another look but instead a much weaker results. His spokesperson told me, he made his remark this evening, they felt this is the statesman thing to do to drop out at this stage. Thanks very much rebecca in South Carolina. Hes beating Bernie Sanders by 122,000 votes, thats so impressive for the former Vice President. Tom steyer announced hes dropping out. Everyone else in relatively low Single Digits. Biden as a result of South Carolina gaining some significant numbers. There is no doubt about it. You know 54 delegates at state tonight, the biggest delegate hall of the first four states. Take a look at what we have been able to allocate to the candidates. Joe biden tonight so far getting 26 delegates compares to Bernie Sanders getting 8 there. The only two to get delegates so far. Look at what a huge delegate win that is. We still have 20 delegates of the 54 not yet assigned and well look as votes continue to come in. The big biden win is getting him a big delegate hall tonight over sanders. It was impressive. Polls did not show a blow out win like this, did it . No. There was a poll earlier in the week what only had joe biden with a fivepoint lead that we saw later he had a 20point lead. This is greater than that. Here are the delegates today. Yeah, take a look. You needed 1,991 to win the nomination. Thats the number thats going to add up to. If someone gets to 1,991. Right now Bernie Sanders with 53 delegates so far to date. Look at whos behind him by only 12 delegates now . Joe biden. Hes at 41. He laeapfrogged over Pete Buttigieg. Warren with 8 and klobachar with 7. Keep your eyes on sanders verses biden as the rest of those 20 delegates. Interesting. Speaking of sanders verses biden. We listen closely to joe bidens victory speech in South Carolina and there were several moments where he really went after Bernie Sanders, didnt mention him by name but it was clear who he was referring to. Listen to this. The democrats want a nominee whos a democrat. A lifelong democrat. A proud democrat, an obamafighting democrat. Join us. As all of us know Bernie Sanders is an independent who caucus in the u. S. Senate as with the democrats. Thats most likely supposed to be about Bernie Sanders but it is also about Mike Bloomberg who was an independent or a republican. It was a trooper. But what was not ambiguous at all was one of the next things he said was most americans dont want the promise of revolution. They want more than promises, they want results. That was about Bernie Sanders. We heard a lot from our cleel colleagues in the other studio about how compassionate he was and energized he was. The best speech he given in this campaign by far. It was not just because of the energy and adrenaline. He was so clear and clear of who his target is and thats Bernie Sanders. It is not going to be easy when he looks at the delegate. The fact that he articulated it in the way he has not so far. Energy and confidence and political communication helps. This is the third time hes won a primary. You can see that. You can see the happiness of his face and confidence in his face. Does that carry over . Well find out on super tuesday with 14 states. It helps a lot with the optics if you look confident. That was a confident joe biden today. I think it gives him an unquestionable 30point win in South Carolina. He was expected to win. That gives you momentum. The jim clyburns endorsement really helped him a lot . Absolutely. There is no question about that. If you look at the map going in and our shoulders, every county is filling in joe biden. This is a blow out. This is more than biden thought he was going to get. It is what he needed. I think the best conversations are going to be the other campaign. Elizabeth warren is in texas tonight. She gave a speech where she congratulated biden but then she criticized him. By the day shes getting personal in her criticism which is been with the progressives. Clearly as the other candidates trying to decide what do we do next, it is not tonight for Elizabeth Warren. She has come in third, fourth and fifth. Thats tough. Yes, looking ahead to super tuesday. Ryan noenbles was talking about the Sanders Campaign did not expect to win and they did not expect to be troused tonight. As david mentions earlier exit polls in the teens when it comes to what sanders did with the votes which was not unlike how he did four years ago where Hillary Clinton demolished him. If you look at super tuesday, you are looking at six Southern States, that africanamerican vote is going to be absolutely huge. It is going to continue to be huge for him. The flip side of that is Bernie Sanders cant show that he can do well with africanamericans. It is going to hurt him big time here. The saving grace is that he has texas and california which are the biggest halls for delegates and he you know according to the polls hes going to do quite well there. When it comes to the overall democratic electorate and joe biden making the case that his base of support is more reflective of democrats, certainly helps him when you look at not how he did in South Carolina but how Bernie Sanders did not do. Everybody thought wow where is this coming from and everybody under estimated sanders all along. It was the africanamerican votes in the south that was key. The key to her regrouping after getting stumped by the size of New Hampshires win. Well see that. Congressman from virginia announcing his endorsement of joe biden. Definitely rallying around biden and among other africanamerican leaders who stepped forward, clyburn. Thats something future caascii watch. Tim kaine endorsed biden and virginia is a big price coming up on tuesday. What happens on tuesday if Amy Klobachar does not carry her home state of mississippi and Elizabeth Warren does not carry her home state of massachusetts. It is going to be bad for them. The klobachars campaign seems more bullish about the notion of carrying their own state. Theyre looking at the map from the bidens Campaign Perspective about the need for those two to stay in in order to keep Bernie Sanders delegate count lower because those are two prime states for him because they tend to have more progressive. One other quick thing i want to mention, i was talking about the africanamerican vote, the other thing is the generational divide which continues to be huge, across ethic groups. Bernie sanders continues to do incredibly well among Younger Voters and joe biden does not. Now lucky for joe biden in both of these states historically young voters, there are as many of them as the older voters. Thats why Bernie Sanders and every single rally he has to hear him say we have to increase turn out, increasing turn out means we are bringing out new voters and new young voters and thats fwoing going to help us. Voters have voted in much bigg bigger proportion in younger votes. I think it is an opening question in this campaign. You look at iowa narrowly won fr. New hampshire he barely won. Nevada, he had a blow out victory on the back of latino vote. Joe biden with a blow out tonight with sanders under performing. They worked really hard. Now you have a battle, latinos and africanamericans of the Democratic Party. Huge in california, the latino population and huge in texas. Biden is going to come in with a balance. He thought he had significant africanamerican support anyway. He thinks it gets magnified. Well watch it play out on tuesday. I think it is testing time for mayor Pete Buttigieg where he already made history, the open gay candidate who had significant support. It is all about trajectory, first, iowa, second in New Hampshire and third in South Carolina. Where is he if he cannot get wins on tuesday. Where can he get a significant delegate hall to say that i have reasons to stay in. Yes, it is going to be wild on tuesday. 14 states within enormous amount of delegates. We are all going to be here. It is going to be decisive, too. Could be a critical moment. Well have a lot more on whats going on in South Carolina. Looking ahead to super tuesday, three days from now. Well be right back. Good morning, mr. Sun. Good morning, blair. [ chuckles ] whoo. Im gonna grow big and strong. Yes, you are. Im gonna get this place all clean. Ill give you a hand. Anderson, we are taking a look ahead to super tuesday to show just how important the africanamerican vote is now that joe biden succeeded so tremendously the africanamerican vote in South Carolina, what does it mean in we forward to super tuesday. Take a look at these numbers here. 54 of the alabama lelectorate n 2016. 20 in arkansas. These are the top five states of super tuesday states of africanamerican vote, the sheer electric that africanamericans make up this thein these states. This is where you are going to look too see if joe biden can take tonights South Carolina success and convert this into victory and big delegate halls out of these states. One final note, anderson, it is not just do well with the black vote because theyre an important part of the debate. The way the delegates awarded, the most, the districts that performs best for democrats get for delegates to award. Those are heavily africanamerican voters. It is not just do well key part of the base, it is part of the math thats so important as the these candidates are seek to in get the win. When you look at what lies ahead for super tuesday, assuming there is momentum for joe biden, does it carry over into the africanamerican population . We are pretty much like everybody else. People are still making up their minds. Very, very late. Well, think about this, last week i think a big boat of confidence like this. This is not a minor win. This is a blowout win. I think well have an impact on a lot of people who have not voted yet. I hes probably going to whine up with biden. I think a lot of africanamericans will take some direction from this blowout win. Davthe vote this time in carolina not much different than what he got four years ago with Hillary Clinton. Does that continue to move forward . It is important to put things into context which is that nationally Bernie Sanders at least for recent polling as a couple of days ago, hes doing well with the Africanamerican Community, it does not take away the fact that joe biden had an incident night tonight. The focus on defeating donald trump, Bernie Sanders has a unique ability to build this Multiracial Coalition on one side, hes able to capture White Working Class votes as we saw here in South Carolina tonight. He won the young africanamerican votes which we are seeing consistently. Heading into super tuesday in the same way that joe biden has the spot with black voters and Bernie Sanders has a firewall with voters. I dont know tonight considering hes going to pick up some delegates. When you look at the numbers gloria pointed out earlier joe biden among not College Educated white voters in carolina, Bernie Sanders number was better. 3133. It was 3126. Tighter. Once we move the Africanamerican Community which is the heart of our party. Who could win that. I have always said the Democratic Party. Joe biden proves tonight with him. We got a lot of contest. I have said to senator sanders, the challenge for him is to expand his coalition and show that he can win in the community. Now he got this other Southern States coming up. Thats what he has to prover. You put the issue together to get ready to run a general election against donald trump, you need excitement and enthusiasm. Tonight people were fired up. It was a big night for him and a great speech for him. Nobody matches bernie for enthusiasm. Yes, to that point one thing you have to consider is california and texas have been voting. Whatever bump that joe biden is going to get out of tonight is lost on those voters. California votes for three weeks. They have the bundling program where you can go around and grab people ballots which is very controversial. Who has the energy go and organizing. Just the story of what i have been reading with sanders and what they have been doing with latinos. The latino voters are hugely important, too. Sanders is a huge advantage on the ground and organization. That really matters in campaign. One interesting thing on this early vote question, what we have seen in a lot of these early races people have been holding back because theyre not quite sure what the right vote to cast is because they do want to beat trump. I will be interested to see if that is true in california as well. If there are, people are voting later than they normally would. The numbers are up everywhere. We dont know how up they are, we have to wait on tuesday. Comparing to 16 and other elections as we have seen in every election in the last three years, everyone is motivated and fired up. So far we have seen in texas and california, the numbers are up. This timing for biden could not be better. It is three days before super tuesday. If you are going to turn out voters who particularly africanamericans who are going to look at what happens in South Carolina saying i am with him. They made a difference and they changed perhaps the course of the president ial race. Clearly could affect turn out. The question i think and the answer we dont know about Bernie Sanders turn out. Bernie sanders said that he can establish a Democratic Coalition that will turn out and it is different, thats younger and etcetera, we have not seen that. We have seen moderate increases but we have not seen barack obama 2008 increases in turn out. Thats worry soisome. It did surpass 2016. New hampshire was also a huge increase from 2008 sorry, nevada and New Hampshire as well. It is a little early to see that. It is you know to what we are saying it is not just about moderation but motivation and thats going to be pretty pivotal heading in. Well find this the value of a new cycle because it is too late for joe biden to convert the success tonight onto monday that he can put on the air waves in time for tuesday. It was a rough ride for him in the first three states. Those were three tough goings and to rebound in this state, based largely on the strength of africanamerican voters who hung with him suggests to me theyll be hanging with him again in the state theyre about to unfold. Their faith is not shaken by what is transpiring in iowa and nevada. There is not a bunch of clyburn in the world. Clyburn is like that was remarkable. That family is a beloved family. There is no clyburn family in tennessee. We dont know what the black folks are going to do. We know there is a weighing support for biden. Bloomberg doing so badly helps people come back to biden. I see a lot of people are making their decisions closer to election day. The number one question here is still who to defeat donald trump. The exit polls are interesting when you look at issues, right . When you look at this is another state where over a majority of the people supported a single payer medicare for all system. Though they say they want to go back to obama policy. It is not ideological. The clyburn endorsement is huge. One thing for sure is not a lot of evidence that campaign worked out. Well see whos in the overall popular vote and well look at how the delegate fights move into over drive on super tuesday. That takes you there . Rk thats the hard part. Harriet is with us, thats good news right there. Harriet, walk us through the pathway forward. Super tuesday is in three days, wolf. 34 of all delegates. Thats very little time for joe biden to change the trajectory of this race. Take a look at where our National Polls are before South Carolina voters. Look at the large lead that Bernie Sanders had, 28 . Joe biden at 16 . Bloomberg at 15 . It is the states that actually vote. Take a look at california. We just had a poll out from there. Bernie sanders a huge lead at 35 . Look at warren and bloomberg, all underneath that 15 threshold. Also take a look at texas. This is another key state. 228 delegates at state. Another state where Bernie Sanders is well ahead at 29 . I will tell you i am interested to see coming out of this evening, where it goes, well, we dont know. It is an interesting question. Interesting indeed. Biden got a blow out win tonight. What kind of bounce potentially coming out of South Carolina . You know this is a great question. Obviously biden wants to boomerang out of carolina and shoot up. This is what he wants to happen. Before obama won in carolina, he trailed 9 points. Look at what happens before super tuesday. Obama shot up in the lead. This is a key example of South Carolina can be used to jump out nationally which biden wants. Harry, is three days enough time to generate any kind of significance . I think it is the perfect amount of time. Take a look. In 2012, the republican, Newt Gingrich was trailing in the National Poll and one in South Carolina shot upward, three days is a perfect amount of time especially with someone with little money like joe biden. It means hell get all that media and focusing that attention heading into super tuesday. Thank you very much. John, a biden bounce thats what he needs right now especially as harry pointed out in texas and california. Those are the big halls. Texas especially has over 400 delegate that is are available because it is portionroportiona. He can do well and still not win. But, you know hes going to need some wins after this. After tonight he may get them in some of those Southern States we have been talking about. David pointed out earlier and you did as well the percentage of africanamerican voters in 2016 and tennessee and alabama and North Carolina and even in virginia. Thats again if biden can keep it going, hell do extremely well. The flip side is Bernie Sanders did not get there. He didnt get there tonight. California has 415 delegates. Those are major, major delegate prize. Those are the two biggest prizes on super tuesday. Well do a 1300 plus. The challenge is if you assume and there is three days, if you look at the sanders leading in california and texas. If you think thats Strong Enough and his organization is certainly strong in those places that hes likely to win. If you are someone else, your challenge is to keep the margins closer. Make this like New Hampshire and iowa where number one, two, and three are splitting dell guegat and not like nevada or South Carolina. Then you just start sto stretch it out too much. The challenge is keeping it as close as they can. Try to pick up some other places just so when we wake up on wednesday morning when we are doing the delegates math, it gets a lot more complicated and adding more digits thats close. This is really the question in the race right now. The bidens win in South Carolina making it more interesting. How big can sanders stretch it out on super tuesday or do we wake up on wednesday in a competitive race. If so, has joe biden proven that the message he tries to deliver tonight that i am the alternative. No offense senator klobachar, i am the alternative. Can he prove that. He has to be competitive with Bernie Sanders so when everybody wakes up on wednesday, that would be. If nobody makes that decision beforehand, wednesday would be the moment of choice. If it happens, it poses another question and potential risk for democrats. Going into tonight and super tuesday for consolidating the nonBernie Sanders voters because of texas and california have such big numbers in delegates and hes expected to do so well there. The concern is he would be so far ahead of the next person behind him that he would be impossible to catch even if he does not get the number of delegates to clinch to the nomination in 1991. In the first round. What would it mean . The dreaded convention. Thats something we talked about so many times when things have been very, very tight. This time it really could happen. So thats the ultimate, fascinating for us to watch but for democrats it is the worse case scenario, you know whos the happiest of that . Donald trump. The more scramble it is, the happier they are. There are three important tuesdays in a row coming up in march. Saint patricks day and first super tuesday. March and february slowly and now we get the blur and it is going to be fun. You know whos really good in math . David. David you have been going through the popular vote including the bidens dramatic win tonight. What do you see . Adding up the votes across these four early states and obviously theyre still counting in South Carolina and nevada finally stopped. Theyre still counting in South Carolina. Here is a snapshot overall. Take a look, you see 281,000 votes for joe biden. 27. 8 of the popular votes to date. Bernie sanders is in seventh place. Pete buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren there at 10 of the vote. Well, you know Bernie Sanders likes to say every time he takes to the stage he won the popular vote in iowa and New Hampshire and nevada. What he can claim after South Carolina weighed in, joe biden has more vote in the nomination. Thats significant. Well discuss that. Well discuss it right now. It is a claim that Bernie Sanders are likely. Thats not happening right now. Not right now. You know it is what we have heard from Bernie Sanders particularly after iowa are so messed up there. He seized on the popular votes and it is not a claim that he can make as we speak. Everything is going to change in 48 hours. For right now it gives joe biden a lot of bragging rights. We know the president has been watching the election in South Carolina. Hes been posting some nasty tweets as you can imagine. What do you think, john . Who do you this i he fears more in a oneonone context . They have shifted their thinking of this. There are some of them aside from polling data they would prefer Bernie Sanders. Then there are others who say wait a minute the theory that Bernie Sanders can increase latino turn out and younger turn out. It is untested in some ways. They always looked at joe biden if he can get through the primary campaign in good shape on paper as the biggest dreaded places like pennsylvania, wisconsin and michigan. Theyre thinking of all of this. The one advantage they have is as they are thinking, theyre testing their data. The fact that the president has no serious challenge, well go through this and theyll have millions and millions of dollars everyday to pull and test everyday. Watch what they are doing. Theyre targeting americans and latinos. If they can move the margin that much, it keeps uconn resistant. It takes North Carolina completely off the math. If you get a little bit more africanamerican support. They are working the margins. The president will make misships all the time. Hell use insulting nicknames. His campaigning testing everything. Three days before super tuesday, 14 states. Much more of our coverage riep right after this. Im your 70lb st. Bernard puppy, and my lack of impulse control, is about to become your problem. Other breaking news, a patient infected by coronavirus has died. Mike pence is leading the task force of coronavirus. There will be more cases and possibly more deaths . And, it is possible. The reality that others explained to me stiince i took this on a few days ago, most people that contract the coronavirus, theyll recover and doo deal with respiratory illness and well get them treatments but with people with other conditions will end with the worse outcome. We could have more sadness. The American People should know the risk of the average american remains low. You can see the full interview at 9 00 a. M. Tomorrow on sunday as well as noon. How freaked out are you . Well, i think the administration is trying to get a task together and explaining to us how freaked out we should be because it is really unclear. How long does it stay on surfaces. Can you get it again if you already have it . Whats having an under line disease mean . I was listening to dr. Emanuel on our air say 50 of the public have some issue. And so you dont know where it is going to be next and how it is going to affect you. How dislocating it is going to be for you and family and your children. Will your schools close . We are not necessarily talking about losing our lives but we are talking about legislatiivin lives every i thisingle day and it could affect us. It is a question of getting information every single day. I know they want to make the Vice President a spokesperson here but ill like to hear from a scientist every single day, the same thing you hear from ahead of noah when a hurricane is coming ahead of you. You want to get the science out there and tell the american whats going on and an update. As a parent, we all want to know. Thats one of the things is very concerning. You have a crisis of confidence and credibility for some people as they watch the administration trying to handle this. There has been press conferences where the president is saying something quite the opposite. Mixed messages and the president made an unfortunate comment of being a hoax. Democrats trying to use as a hoax. All these unforced errors in the middle of a possible plague is not building confidence. I think it is one of those mo moments where i review we are talking about people lives. Give us the bad news or dont spin it. This is a great plague, no, give us information and quit playing games. Also provide a new prism through which we evaluate the candidates. The other thing that occurs to me anderson when you think of basic human contact, the handshake, the hug, the crowd that gathers, you just described retail politics. This could have a profound impact on the way of this pain we have been talking about all night long and ultimately carried out. First of all, i want to say thank you to van, thats one of the reasons why i respect you for talking about the hoax thing. Five weeks ago the president declared a National Health emergency. When you do that, you open up the ability to get into funds. Congress passed pandemic funds a while ago, they have access to that. You ha h debra bricks, shes in charge. They have a task force. What happens in politics of course is you have five briefs on the hill. Democrats are coming out of briefings saying we are not doing enough. Thats frustrating. I think democrats really risk hurting themselves with that. Going after the acting head of the department of Homeland Security clearly believing he was not up to it or there was not yeah, look, the governors are at the front line of this. Maybe i have not heard of this. I have not heard a prominent democrat saying i am putting politics aside and i am working on this. That may put some water on some of these flames turning it into a partisan fight all over again. We got to take a quick break. Details for that ahead. 1 in 3 deaths is caused by cardiovascular disease. Millions of patients are treated with statinsbut up to 75 persistent cardiovascular risk still remains. Many have turned to fish oil supplements. Others, fenofibrates or niacin. But heres a number you should take to heart zerothe number of fda approvals these products have, when added to statins, to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Ask your doctor about an advancement in prescription therapies with proven protection. Visit truetoyourheart. Com if you looked at america like a bird and that was all you knew, would you really understand it, with just that point of view . Weve got a different way to look at it. From right here on the ground. We dont just the United States. We see united towns. As your broker, ive solved it. Is complicated. Thats great, carl. But we need something better. Thats easily adjustable has no penalties or advisory fee. And we can monitor to see that were on track. Like schwab intelligent income. Schwab introducing schwab intelligent income. A simple, modern way to pay yourself from your portfolio. Oh, thats cool. I mean, we dont have that. Schwab. A modern approach to wealth management. Jeff jezelenys joining us right now. Theyre actually traveling to selma, alabama, for the 55th an ver anniversary of bloody sunday. Mike bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg, and joe biden. So imagine the conversations that could potentially be had tomorrow in selma as they do the bridge reenactment. Crossing over the bridge and doing the commemorations. But, wolf, we are talking to advisers for all the campaigns tonight and theyre telling us they are stdsing their paths forward. Separately, we do know Amy Klobuchar plans to compete through super tuesday at least and she is even looking beyond that. But she wants to compete in her home state of minnesota on tuesday. The Biden Campaign would love her to compete in minnesota because they believe she can be competitive with Bernie Sanders. Elizabeth warren, also a super tuesday state, if she remains competitive and in the race, she, too, can compete with Bernie Sanders. The questions tonight are of bloomberg and buttigieg. On the Buttigieg Campaign specifically, talking to a democrat very close to the campaign say they are looking for their path forward. The candidate himself is going to take a look at this, study this, and see what their path forward is. He actually is going to start tomorrow off by meeting with the former president jimmy carter in plains, georgia. He is going to attend a Church Service with him so perhaps he will get some guidance there. But as for the Buttigieg Campaign specifically, this top democrat told me that how he gets out of this race, should that happen, is very important to him. He said a very impressive run here. 37yearold mayor winning the iowa caucus and getting to this point so how he exits they believe is very important to him. They pointed back to an interview i did with mayor buttigieg yesterday. Saying a majority of democratic voters are looking for something other than senator sanders. Its not up to candidates, its up to voters. He told me candidates should take cues from voters. So certainly not a sign he intends to stay in long beyond his time. But, wolf, lets note of t get of ourselves. Tomorrow, we will be in selma, alabama, together. So we will have our eye on their conversations they could be having in selma. Jeff zeleny, good reporting as usual. Dana, several of these candidates, after super tuesday, are going to have to make some major decisions. Right. And just think about Pete Buttigieg. What jeff zeleny was just saying. I mean, he seems to be very clear eyed, as a few others are, about where they are right now. He, in particular, is, and should be, incredibly proud of where hes gotten, given where he came from. Which is somebody who was unknown with a name that nobody could pronounce and he won the iowa caucuses. Thats no small thing. And looking down, hes got 26 delegates up until today. I dont believe he got any in South Carolina so hes still there. And so he understands. Hes a smart guy. He has the people around him are incredibly smart and sophisticated. They understand where hes going. But also, that he is a young man whos got a very, very big future ahead of him. And the fact that hes proven his medal in the way that he has with a very, very talented field, you know, could be enough, at least in the shortterm, understanding the difficult path ahead. Clearly, he has a huge future ahead of him. He is only 38 years old. Openly gay, campaigned across the country making the case and has been an incredibly impressive candidate so he has made history. Done a few of those. Just how timing is everything. Timing is everything in politics. We could be having a very different conversation. Pete buttigieg out of iowa was on a path to win New Hampshire. Any other campaigns will tell you this. Amy klobuchar had one great debate in New Hampshire and it just changed the race heading into the final weekend. And buttigieg came in just behind Bernie Sanders. You know, any one moment can change a race so much, which is instructive. Number one, that changed potentially changed the path of the Buttigieg Campaign. And, number two, it should give us all remind us lets take a breath here. Joe biden gets a huge win tonight. He gets a giant springboard out of South Carolina. We dont know how giant. Thats what tuesday is going to prove. In the sense that biden does not have a great infrastructure in these states. He did not have a ton of money. He had some money, modest amount of money, a competitive amount of money but not blowout kind of money when he woke up this morning. So how fast can you spend what you raise in these states . So this is going to be a giant test of can biden get an organic bounce because he doesnt have the nuts and bolts infrastructure . Very interesting indeed. This was a very, very significant day for the former Vice President of the United States. But you know what, three days from now, all of us are going to be back right here on super tuesday. 14 states. We will watch it all very, very closely. To our viewers, please stay with cnn for interviews with joe biden and with Vice President mike pence. Thats on state of the union with jake tapper tomorrow at 9 00 and noon eastern.
