Of strength that has made this nation great. This is in our best interests and the best interests of the world. The greater that america is, the greater the entire world becomes. While some people may call donald trump a populist, i call him a patriot. Thats because by definition, a patriot is one who loves their country, that supports its authority and promotes its interests. Many liberals are embarrassed to use this word. Many liberals believe we are a nation like any other but we know that we are not a nation just like any other. We are the greatest nation in the history. And as republicans, we are unreservedly proud to be americans and we are proud of you were on patriots. America is a melting pot. We are a country of diversity and we stand poised to make history by standing together as americans, by standing together as one country. One nation under god indivisible. And we are here as americans. Regardless of race, regardless of creed, regardless of color. We hold these truths to be selfevident, that all men are created equal and we are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights. Among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Donald trump. Donald trump will rebuild the broken trust that now exists between our citizens and our government which over the last eight years has brought the rhetoric of hope but the reality of higher minority unemployment, crime, drug use, with more civil unrest and national distress. This election is one of the most crucial elections in american history. Let me tell you something. Donald trump has played the big states and he is a master negotiator and deal maker. And donald trump knows that for all of the sharp elbows and all the sharp words and all of the bruised egos and all the hurt feelings, the art of the deal is bringing people together to unify and to get them from no to yes. That means problem solving, it means finding common ground, and then moving forward. Donald trump has done that for himself for 30 years. And he now wants to take that experience to get the best deal for america and the best deal for all americans. I believe, i truly believe that nothing will prevent donald trump from doing everything in his power to create an america and to become a president that everyone can be proud of. And donald trump believes as you and i believe that we can become great again. But we can only become great again if we have strong leadership. And i can think of no stronger leader who will place their left hand on a bible that they believe in, raise their right hand and solemnly swear to faithfully execute the office of president of the United States and to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the United States than donald j. Trump. God bless donald trump. God bless you and god bless america. Darrell scott, pastor and cofounder of the new spirit revival. Certainly getting the biggest applause. It is a mention of coming together as america. And unity is the theeft. Republicans want to hear and they applauded it loudly. I would like to point out to my friend, yet another american who happens to be black in this case. Out there with an enthusiastic endorsement of donald trump. Amazing is that africanamericans, latinos should resonate with this Republican Party. Enterprise, you have an incredible entrepreneurial section of the black community. Faith, family, all that. The problem is that good tasty gumbo continues to be ruined by the doggie poo of the xenophobia, of the antiimmigrant stride that doesnt distinguish between good and the bad of the undocumented population. So this is a tragedy, that we should have a Pinnacle Party in this room that can compete. That africanamericans are 0 for trump in ohio. 0 in pennsylvania because this has been blown. And you have republicans that tried very hard to open this party up and it has been ryaned by Donald Trumps rhetoric. I think there is a really interesting, not to pull this in a different direction. I think theres an interesting connection between prosperity theology and donald trump. There has been a number of theology prosperity pastors that have been drawn to trump. I think that would be an interesting examination. Many of the pastors who gathered at the trump tower oriole were sort of the prosperity gospel. A fascinating relationship that they have that i would like to unpack another time. But he was certainly a rousing speaker and i thought a very good character witness for donald trump. To go back to something that david was saying earlier, that its odd when certain people go on and dont really mention donald trump, obviously this has been a difficult decision for a number of speakers. Whether to come and how to embrace the convention without necessarily bear hugging trump. But i think all of these speakers can Service Different jobs. They dont all have to cheer lead for trump to have successful moments. Or to show audiences at home what conservatism stands for or what were proud of or what the party is about. So im not totally bothered by the lack of 100 adoration for trump. I think the moment, the astronauts moment was a successful one regardless. I dont disagree with you. But the reality is that donald trump came into this convention with a 60 unfavorable rating. So one of the missions of the Convention Like this is to do something about that. And that puts greater impetus on the speakers to lift up the nominee and many of them havent done it. It is just not that kind of primary. But this were not used to conventions where everybody doesnt come out and say support candidate x. Vote for candidate x. This is why candidate x can save this country and take it in the right direction. Instead of using Donald Trumps name, they say, make America Great again. Okay. Because thats something everybody can embrace. Or vote against Hillary Clinton. Or vote against Hillary Clinton which is the other thing everybody can embrace. Can they all embrace donald trump . Twothirds of republicans do. But not all of them. It might just be that we notice this kind of stuff. Im not sure voters at home notice, oh, she didnt say Donald Trumps name. I spent some time today talking to black republicans. They were not very impressed with the black speakers that have been featured so far. Ben carson, as well as the sheriff. They dont feel like this represents the kind of tradition of black republicans. The colin powells, the condi rices. There is a legacy. People like jc watts. They feel like the speakers here werent really speaking to black republicans. Donald trump is at 0 in some of the state polls. 3 nationally. And how do they get from 3 to 10 , right . Which is the standard republican share of the black vote. They want to hear about criminal justice reform. They feel like too often that black republicans who come before these majority white audiences talk to these audiences about black people rather than talking directly to black people. That was something they said they were very frustrated about what they saw over these last couple of nights. Can i just say, the night is wrong. There are two big hours that are about to begin. Thus far, i have to give convention credit. The speakers have been strong, diverse, on message. There have been no faux pas. Coming up, Governor Scott walker who was a president ial candidate. In his second term as wisconsin governor, dropped out very early on. In his words, voters can focus a limited number of candidates who can offer an alternative to the current frontrunner who reports at that time, who was and still is donald trump. Lets listen in to scott walker. My fellow americans, you have a choice. You deserve better because america deserves better. The well connected in washington are standing behind Hillary Clinton because Hillary Clinton is one of them. They want more of the same. Donald trump is standing with the American People. We want a leader who is not afraid to take on the mess in washington. Donald trump knows there is a better way forward and we believe as republicans, we believe in an america where everybody can get the education and training they need on succeed in college, in career and in life. Where washington doesnt deepen dependency but rather creates. Why . Because america deserves better. We believe in a country where people can achieve, maintain and have their piece of the American Dream without government standing in the way. Why . Because america deserves better. We believe in a country where we take the threat of terrorism seriously. We name it for what it is. You know the words, radical islamic terrorism. And we do everything in our power to eliminate it. To ensure our safety. Why . Because america deserves better. We believe in a country where it is a solemn responsibility to deliver to our troops the support and tools that they need to achieve absolute victory and then provide them with the health care and the respect that theyve earned when they return home. Lets thank our veterans. Why . Because america deserves better. While were at it. While were at it. We believe in a country where those who serve in Law Enforcement, the people who put their lives on the line for us each and every day are not just respected. They are revered. Why . Because america deserves better. We believe in a country where power is taken back from washington and returned home to state and local governments where it is more effective, more efficient and more accountable to the people. Why . Because america deserves better. We believe in a country where freedom and personal success do not come from the clumsy hand of government. Rather, from the dignity that comes from hard work. Why . Because america deserves better. The simple truth is liberal washington insiders created our problems. And Hillary Clinton is the ultimate liberal washington insider. If she were any more on the inside, she would be in prison. America deserves better than Hillary Clinton. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we need to support donald trump and mike pence to be the next president and Vice President of the United States. Now last august, last august right here in cleveland, i stood on this stage and i said that any of the republicans running for office would be better than Hillary Clinton. I meant it then and i mean it now. So let me be clear. A vote for anyone other than donald trump in november is a vote forry c hillanton. Make no mistake. Make no mistake. We cant wait four years to get them next time. The consequences are too great. Literally just an hour ago while waiting to come out here on stage, i was on the phone with donald trump. And this very subject came up. Think about it. The Supreme Court. He and i talked about the court. He raised that as a concern and we talked about the fact that Ronald Reagan nominated Justice Scalia over 30 years ago when i was in high school. We cannot concede the court to liberals like Hillary Clinton for the next 30 years. The consequences are too great. After hearing the fbi directors report a few weeks ago, heck, i listened to that and said, i wouldnt even give Hillary Clinton the password to my iphone, let alone access to highly classified information. This isnt just another clinton scandal. Hillarys scandal put our National Security at risk and that, ladies and gentlemen, makes Hillary Clinton unfit to be president of the United States. It is time to tell hillary enough is enough. No more double standards for the clintons. Why . Because america deserves better. And thankfully, thankfully republicans are offering a better way forward. Right here in ohio and it is working in places like florida and new mexico and North Carolina and south carolina. Heck, it is even working in places like massachusetts and maryland. Thats because Republican Leadership works. I know. I know because i see it first hand as it is working every single day in wisconsin. You see, in 2010, we were tired of high unemployment, budget deficits, stifling taxes and Rising College tuition. Most of all, we were tired of the Big Government union bosses running our state and local governments. We had had enough. So we did something about it. We took the power from the hands of the Big Government special interests and returned it firmly into the hands of the hard working taxpayers. You remember in turn the Big Government union bosses and their cronies in washington helped organize more than 100,000 protesters who occupied our state capital. They tried on intimidate us with threats and mobs. But we didnt back down. And we won. They spent tens of millions of dollars trying to defeat us in a recall election. But we didnt back down. And we won. Three times, three times they came at us. Three times we won. We won because our common sense reforms worked. Today more people are employed in wisconsin than ever before. Our budget that is balanced and responsible, taxes are paid for working families and seniors and College Tuition for the First Time Ever is voted four years in a row. If conservative reforms can work, they can work anywhere in the country. You see, it wasnt too late for wisconsin. And it is not too late for america. If youve had enough of washingtons brokenness, of washingtons wastefulness, of washingtons empty promises, and of washingtons arrogance, i invite you here and across america to join us, help us elect republicans to office from the courthouse to the state house to the white house. America, you have a choice. You decide. You deserve better. Why . Because america deserves better. Why . Because america deserves better. Why . Because america deserves better. God bless you. Thank you and god bless our next president and Vice President. Wisconsin Governor Scott walker coming up. Marco rubio, ted cruz, eric trump coming up. Hey guys lunch is here its on me fellas. With the chase mobile app, Stephen Curry can send money to more people in less time. Thanks, steph no problem. Even to friends in a growing number of other banks. Yall ready to go . Come on fellas lets go easy to use Chase Technology for whatever youre trying to master. Coming up right now, the Vice President of the Eric Trump Foundation, struggled with Substance Abuse and addiction and said the trump family stood by him. The honor to call friends. They have been incredibly loyal to me and to the countless dedicated people i employ around the world hiring more minority and female executives than any other company for which ive ever worked. Rest assured, i am a highly intelligent, free thinking and independent woman. My opinions and decisions are based solely if fact. Not fiction, assumption or hearsay. I do not vote based upon the color of my skin, nor the signature on my paycheck. I judge my friends and forge my allegiances from direct personal interaction and moral character. That said, there is no higher barometerter by which to measure ones self than family and spouses. The trump family has stood by me through immensely difficult times without hesitation nor concern for their own reputation by association. They continue to trust me with every aspect of their lives and the lives of their families. They invite me into their homes and welcome me at their family gatherings. For the past six years i have held an executive position as it pertains to the distribution of their Charitable Funds and they have charged me to identify worthy is that altruistic missions. I could not be more humbled. This is the trump family that i know. There is a movement sweeping this brave nation and i am honored to have the front row seat to that on a daily basis. This country has spoken. My boss has justly earned the republican nomination and broken Voter Registration records across america. This cannot be denied. He has brought this Party Together by trying more democrats, more first time vote enters into the fold ask has earned more republican votes than any other president ial candidate in modern history. That must be respected. To the skeptic whos will undoubtedly claim that i am doing this at the behest of the trump family or with the promise of reward, i deliberately chose not to seek their approval nor counsel for fear there would be more concern for me and its potential viral ramifications than they would be for themselves and quite simply, this is the right thing to do. For me, it was an easy decision. Just as voting for my boss, donald j. Trump, should be an easy decision for you. God bless this family. God bless the voters and god bless the United States of america. Ladies and gentlemen, the Vice President of the Eric Trump Foundation and Senior Family assistant, lynne patton. Hello america. I told pastor scott and Governor Walker that they would be tough acts to follow. But you know what . Ill give it a shot. I said, hello, america i am honored to be here tonight on behalf of my boss, donald j. Trump. As someone who has been with this family each and every day, for the past seven years, i know mr. Trump. I know his heart and i know his passion for this country to be true. Tonight as we stand in the shadow of one of the darkest months in modern american history, i know now more than ever that donald trump is the law and order we need to heal a wound asked and divide nation. We all watched horrified and helpless as a radical islamic terrorist terrified orlando. Weve seen discord in our urban communities, sparked by the senseless deaths of young black men in baton rouge, in minnesota and far too many places around this country. We watched in horror as our nations finest were gunned down in dallas and baton rouge as we sought to frequent very people protesting them. In order to heal as a nation, we must stop viewing these incidents as attacks on the Lgbt Community or attacks on the black community or even attacks on the Law Enforcement community. They are attacks on america. They are attacks on our values. They are attacks on the very foundation of civil society. Sadly though, there is not one person in this room who can deny that historically black lives have mattered less. My life mattered less. And whether we like it or not, there are people out there who still believe this to be true. But tonight, its a a minority myself, i personally pledge to you that donald trump knows that your life matters. He knows that my life matters. He knows the lbgtq lives matter. That he knows veterans lives matter. And he knows that blue lives matter. This country is sadly more divided now than it was eight years ago. But tonight, dont hope for change. Be the change. Vote not for the candidate who asks to you stand with her but instead, vote for the candidate who stands in solidarity with you. The bible tells us that you can judge a tree by the fruit it bears. And if you embrace these words, then you embrace donald trump because he has raised the best young adults i have ever had the privilege to know and the honor to call friends. They were raised to be respectful of all ages, all races, and all religions. Eric, don and ivanka, i love you like the siblings i never had. You are compassionate, you are charitable, you are my heroes. I believe in the opportunity of america because i have seen it first hand. My father was born in birmingham, alabama, and rose to become one of the most respected doctors at yale university. I am proud of him. I am proud of my africanamerican heritage and i am proud to stand before you tonight and support donald trump, not just in spite of the color of my skin, but in fact because of the color of my skin. God bless this country, god bless this family and god bless donald trump. It puts special interests ahead of the American People. She planted the seeds for the disaster we now know is obamacare. She was an ultra liberal senator and a reliable vote for crony capitalism, wall street bailouts, middle class tax likes and out of control government spending. She was a key figure in implementing Barack Obamas shameful record of betraying our allies and diminishing our role in the world and she turned her back on the Fallen Heroes in benghazi, carelessly jeopardized our National Security, and then she lied about it to the American People. Hillary clinton does not have the honesty, the courage, the independence we need to be the president for the next four years after the president weve had for the past eight. Unlike Hillary Clinton, donald trump is committed to cut taxes, curb spending. Unlike barack obama and Hillary Clinton, donald trump takes seriously the threats from islamic radicals and is committed to rebuilding our military. Unlike barack obama and Hillary Clinton, he is committed to pointing constitutionalist judges who will respect the proper role of the judiciary. After a long and spirited primary, the time for fighting each other is over. It is time to come together is that fight for a new direction for america. It is time to win in november. Please welcome United States senator ted cruz of texas. [ cheers and applause ] thank you. Thank you and god bless each and everyone of you. Heidi and i are so honored to join you here in cleveland where lebron james just led an incredible comeback victory. And i am convinced america is going to come back too. I want to congratulate donald trump on winning the nomination last night. And like each of you, i want to see the principles that our party believes prevail in november. Conventions are times of excitement but given the events of the last few weeks, i hope youll allow me a moment to talk to you about what is really at stake. Just two weeks ago, a 9yearold girl named caroline was having a carefree texas summer. Swimming in the pool, playing with friends, doing all the things a happy child might do. Like most children, she relied upon the love that she received from her mom, heidi. And her dad, a Police Sergeant named Michael Smith. That is until he became one of the five Police Officers gunned down in dallas. The day her father was murdered, caroline gave him a hug and a kiss as he left for work. But as they parted, her dad asked her something he hadnt asked before. What if this is the last time you ever kiss or hug me . Later, as she thought of her fallen father, and that last heartbreaking hug, caroline broke down into tears. How could anything ever be okay again . Michael smith was a former army range here spent three decades with the Dallas Police department. I have no idea who he voted for in the last election or what he thought about this one. But his life was a testament to devotion. He protected the very protesters who mocked him because he loved his country and his fellow man. His work gave new meaning to that line from literature, to die of love is to live by it. As i thought about what i wanted to say tonight, Michael Smiths story weighed on my heart. Maybe thats because his daughter caroline is about the same age as my eldest daughter and happens to share the same name. Maybe it is because i saw a video of that dear sweet child choking back sobs as she remembered her daddys last question to her. Maybe it is because we live in a world where so many others have had their lives destroyed by evil in places like orlando and paris and nice and baton rouge. May be it is because of the simple question itself. What if this right now is our last time . Our last moment to do something for our families, and our country. Did we live up to the values we say we believe . Did we do all we really could . Thats really what elections should be about. Thats why you and millions like you devoted so much time and sacrifice to this campaign. Were fighting, not for one particular candidate or one campaign, but because each of us wants to be able to tell our kids and grandkids our own carolines. We did our best for their future and our country. America is more than just a land mass between two oceans. America is an ideal, a simple, yet powerful idea. Freedom matters. For much of human history, government power has been the unavoidable constant in life. Government decrees and the people obey. But not here. We have no king or queen. We have no dictator. We the people constrain government. [ cheers and applause ] our nation is exceptional because it was built on the five most beautiful and powerful words in the english language. I want to be free. Never has that message been more needed than today. We stand here tonight a nation divided. Partisan rancor, even hatred are tearing america apart and citizens are furious, rightly furious, at a political establishment that breaks its promises and ignores the will of the people. We have to do better. We owe our Fallen Heroes more than that. Now, of course, obama and clinton will also tell you that they care about our childrens future. And i want to believe them. But there is a profound difference in our two parties vision for the future. Theirs is the party that thinks isis is a jv team. That responds to the death of americans at benghazi by asking, what difference does it make . And that thinks it is possible to make a deal with iran which celebrates its holidays, death to america day and death to israel day. My friends, this is madness. President obama is a man who does everything backwards. He wants to chose Guantanamo Bay and open up our borders. He exports jobs and imports terrorists. Enough is enough. And i am here to tell you, there is a better vision for our future. A return to freedom. On education, your freedom to choose your childs education, even if you arent as rich as Hillary Clinton or barack obama. On health care, your freedom to choose your own doctor without obamacare. On taxes, your freedom to provide for your family without the irs beating down your door. The internet, keep it free from taxes, free from regulation, and dont give it away to russia and china. Freedom means free speech. Not politically correct safe spaces. Freedom means religious freedom. Whether you are christian or jew, muslim or atheist. Whether you are gay or straight, the bill of rights protects the rights of all of us to live according to our conscience. Freedom means the right to keep and bear arms and to protect your family. Freedom means that every human life is precious and must be protected. Freedom means Supreme Court justices who dont dictate policy but instead, follow the constitution. And freedom means recognizing that our constitution allows states to choose policies that reflect local values. Colorado might decide Something Different than texas. New york different than iowa. Thats the way it is supposed to be. Diversity. If not, whats the point of having states to begin with . Now, Hillary Clinton believes that government should make virtually every choice in your life. Education, health care, marriage, speech, all dictated out of washington. But something powerful is happening. Weve seen it in both parties. Weve seen it in the united kingdoms unprecedented brexit vote to leave the european union. Voters are overwhelmingly rejecting the political establishment and overwhelmingly rejecting Big Government. That is a profound victory and one earned by each and everyone of you. People are fed up with politicians who dont listen to them. Fed up with a corrupt system that benefits this corrupt people. We deserve an immigration system that puts America First and yes, builds a wall to keep america safe. A government that stops admitting isis terrorists as refugees. We deserve trade policies that put the interests of American Farmers and manufacturing jobs over the global interests that are funding the lobbyists. And if we stand together and choose freedom, our future will be brighter. Freedom will bring back freedom will bring back jobs and lift wages. We can do this. 47 years ago to this day, america put the very first man on the moon. That was the power of freedom. Our party, the Republican Party, was founded to defeat slavery. Abraham lincoln, the first republican president , signed the emancipation proclamation. Together we passed the Civil Rights Act and to the we fought to eliminate jim crow laws. Thats our collective legacy, although the media will never share it with you. Those were fights for freedom and so is this. Sergeant Michael Smith stood up to protect our freedom. So do the soldiers and sailors and airmen and marines every day fighting radical islam being terrorism. Islamic terrorism. And so did the family of alton sterling, who bravely called to end the violence. So did the families of those murdered at the Charleston Emanuel ame church, who forgave that hateful bigoted murderer. And so can we. We deserve leaders who stand for principle, who unite us all behind shared values, who cast aside anger for love. That is the standard we should expect from everybody. And to those listening, please, dont stay home in november. If you love our country and love your children as much as i know that you do, stand and speak and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the constitution. I appreciate the enthusiasm of the new york delegation. And i will tell you it is love of freedom in a has allowed millions to achieve their dreams, like my mom, the first in her family to go to college and my dad, who is here tonight, who fled prison and torture in cuba, coming to texas with just 100 sewn into his underwear. And it is love that i hope will bring comfort to a grieving 9yearold girl in dallas and god willing propel her to move forward and dream and soar and make her daddy proud. We must make the most of our moment, to fight for freedom, to protect our godgiven rights, even of those with whom we dont agree. So that when were old and gray and when our work is done and we give those we love one final kiss goodbye, we will be able to say Freedom Matters and i was part of something beautiful. The case that we must make is that we will defend freedom and be faithful to the constitution. We will unite the country by standing together for shared values, for standing for liberty. God bless each and every one of you and god bless the United States of america. Youre hearing the boos for ted cruz over there, jake. He congratulated dronald trump winning the nomination. People are disappointed they did not hear a robust endorsement of donald trump. He and his campaign are hoping to distract that senator ted cruz gave one of the most remarkable speeches at a convention in modern history. He did not endorse donald trump when the new york delegation, Donald Trumps home state delegation realized what was going on and in fact in some ways ted cruz even seemed to be suggesting that donald trump was not the kind of leader he would be, ted cruz saying we deserve leaders who stand for principle, you must vote for people who will defend our freedom and be faithful to the constitution. These are not qualities that ted cruz has associated with donald trump and when the new york delegation realized what ted cruz was doing, that he was never going to support donald trump in his speech other than a congratulations, they started chanting angrily we want trump, we want trump. Very, very remarkable. Dana bash, whats the reaction . Reporter i have to say, add this to the list of things ive never seen. Donald trump was clearing trying to steal his thunder and that is exactly what happened. He came down, he knew everybody would be focused on him and at the end of ted cruzs speech, im not sure if you all could hear it but the new york delegation were effectively shouting ted cruz down. They were not happy. As he ended his speech, the whole place erupted. Certainly there were some boos, not happy that ted cruz didnt endorse, but i think the other commotion was just turning to the back and watching donald trump walk in and stealing ted cruzs thunder. A lot of disappointment among Donald Trumps supporters here at the convention. The family sat stone faced throughout the speech when they realized what was happening as well. I spoke to somebody close to ted cruz earlier, who told me that the senator is not going to endorse because he considers himself the leader of the conservative movement and it would be a betrayal of his eye dial ideals, not to mention the vicious attacks against ted cruzs mother and father. I didnt hear any endorsement of donald trump. An incredible moment, the likes of which, gloria, have you seen anything like this . I never have. Its clear that donald trump is so outside of what ted cruz believes that he had to find a different way into this speech, talked about freedom instead of the candidate. And he had a perfect opportunity at one point when he said to people watching, please dont stay home in november, stand and vote your conscience. If this was going to be an obamalike moment, like obama had in 2004, cruz got booed for doing this. David . I think ted cruz is making a calculation that donald trump isnt going to win in november and that he can see the leadership of the conservative Movement Moving forward, heading to 2020. It is a calculated risk because youre incurring the wrath of the trump supporters. David is right. I think this is a calculated decision. It was rather puzzling to hear him stand there and say i want to see the values prevail in november. As we heard scott walker say anyone staying home is in fact electing Hillary Clinton. He got about 90 of the speech right and i other 10 i think he made a mistake and i think hes going to come back to haunt him. What a 10 that was. Thats right. He got his nights mixed up. It was that was a thursday night speech. This is wednesday. That was the speech he would have delivered if he had won. That was for ted cruz. There were moments when he endorsed some of Donald Trumps policies, he talked about trade, global trade. I thought this took some guts for ted cruz and i think we saw different approaches for what the posttrump would look like. Of course john kasich ohovering over this convention by not being here. Gutsy. He even took some i thought shadowed, veiled jabs at trump. Vote for candidates up and down the tickets who you trust to defend our freedom and be faithful to the constitution. Thats not trump in his opinion. I think the gutsy move really failed. I think it made him look small, out of touch with the room and myopic and really kind of just here for himself. Luke i said earlier, come endorse him or stay home. I may have to jump in on you because eric trump is about to come out. You have ever seen anything like this . No. I think that scott walker gave the great political speed here and came out and said a vote for anyone other than donald trump is a vote for clinton. And eric trump, executive of the organization, lets listen now. Wow wow good evening cleveland wow it is such an honor to be here for a man i love so so so so much. Thats my father. 13 months ago my father sat my father down and told us the time had come. He could no longer stand by and watch the beloved country that had given him so much success crumble before our very eyes. He confirmed to us he was about to announce his candidacy for president of the United States. He made sure to acknowledge that ours would not be an easy path, that we should prepare ourselves for what was to come, that we would quickly learn who our true friends were. Without hesitation, we each committed our unwavering support, but this time none of us could have predicted what lay ahead, the records he would break, the stadiums he would fill, the movement he would start. Today my father stands before you with the most primary votes of any republican candidate in the history of our nation. [ cheers and applause ] he shattered Voter Registration records across the country. He has defied the predictions of every single political pundit and turned traditional debates into mustsee tv. He has inspired multiple generations, including my own, like millennials like myself who have so little faith in our politicians that they no longer even consider Public Service to be a noble career. A year ago my father was a businessman, but like many americans, he simply could no longer stand to see what was happening to our great country. He could no longer stand to see special interest dollars dictating incompetent Foreign Policy that puts Foreign Countries before our very own. He could no longer tolerate an inept administration that considers giving 150 billion to iran for releasing five radical islamic terrorists a successful negotiation. He could no longer bear witness to our continued Second Amendment attacks. He could no longer stand to see the words christmas stripped from public use or the pledge of allegiance removed from our schools in an effort to be politically correct. So he made the decision to set aside a global brand that hes made synonymous with success, with quality, with uncompromising, just the best. At a time when the people at the pinnacle of their career like my father would have held fast to a lifestyle that has truly become the epitome of the American Dream, my father instead chose to give that dream back to the people it had eluded for so long. As daunting of a journey he knew it would be, for him it was the easiest decision in the world. After all, who better to implement common sense business approach to the country . Who better to apply practical decisions to the impractical Decision Making of an administration that has bred a 19 trillion debt, one which goes up by 32,000 a second and over 2 billion a day. Who better to implement common sense tax reductions for one of the highest taxed nations in the world, allowing our citizens to keep more of what they earned as opposed to having it squandered away by our inefficient government. Who better to negotiate the return of countless american manufacturers like nabisco and ford and carrier and so many others back to the United States where they began than a man who has single handedly employed tens and tens and tens of thousands of people around the country. Its time for a president with common sense. Its time for a president who understands the art of a deal and appreciates the value of a dollar, our tax dollars. Its time for the president who has always been the one to sign the front of a check, not the back. Throughout my fathers career, he has been repeatedly called in to save delayed and grossly overbudget projects, from the old gran central in North Carolina and iconic post office in washington, d. C. The city of new york tried to refurbish a simple ice skating rink in central park. The project dragged on for six year and ballooned to 13 million, 5 million over an already inflated budget. Thats when my father who overlooked this disastrous project from his Office Window every day he had to step in. He invested 2 million of his own money in order to complete the project. What had taken the city over half a decade to botch my father completed in less than six months, two months ahead of schedule and over a Million Dollars under budget. Its time for a president who can make America Great again, ahead of budget and ahead of schedule, too. My father has revitalized run down neighborhoods, shaped skylines across the country and turned dreams into reality his entire career. Its what he does. Its who he is. Oprah winfrey once asked my father if he envisioned running for president of the United States. His answer only if it got so bad that i had no choice. Only if it got so bad that i had no choice. Well, ladies and gentlemen, that day has come. As i travel with my father, i see the unmistakable look in his eyes, the indig nating infrastructure back at home that is in complete disarray and no longer on par with so many other developed nations. I see in his eyes the sadness of innocent lives lost, like those of kate steinly and jamily shaw and so many others cut short by Illegal Immigrants in sanctuary cities, victims of a revolving door, government ineptitude and corruption that leaves innocent americans defenseless. I see in his eyes the humiliation of an Education System ranked 30th in the world. I see in his eyes the disgrace of nearly 400 million trade imbalance with china, the 60 billion trade imbalance with mix mexico and the disabling of the middle east which have cost our nation millions of dollars and thousands and thousands of lives. But today i see in his eyes a man who truly loves his country, who is proud of his country, and who wants his country to be great again. I want to thank my father over there for the life that hes provided me, for the life that hes provided my family and the life hes provided all of our employees around the world. I want to thank my father for the life that hes enabled me to provide to my future children, as my beautiful wife laura and i start thinking about that amazing chapter of our lives. To that end, i often think about the legacy i wish to leave my children and to me there are few things that i hold closer to my heart than charity. For me its the essence of who we are as human beings. Its the barometer by which we will be measured for our time here on earth. As Martin Luther king jr. Once said lifes most persistent and urgent question is what are you doing for others . When i was 22 years old i started the air Trump Foundation to benefit st. Judes childrens research hospital, an incredible, incredible organization. I run my Foundation Based on the principles my father taught me, honesty, integrity and values. I expect other charities to be run by the same moral code, not serve as conduit for personal enrichment, not become a beacon of corruption and scandal. To whom much is given, much will be required. This is the very belief that compelled my father to make this great sacrifice, to run for the most powerful yet unforgiving office in the world. There is no greater calling. There is no more selfless an act. To the unemployed voter sitting at home watching me right now, wondering how youre going to make your next mortgage payment or rent payment, my father is running for you. To the veteran tuning in to this feed from his or her hospital, who has been ignored and disrespected by an ungrateful system for far too long, my father is running for you. To the School Teacher forced to walk through metal detectors each and every day to an underfunded school, my father is running for you. To the laborer watching me right now forced out of a job by undocumented workers, Illegal Immigrants, my father is running for you. To the oil and gas industry worker denied a job because of radical regulations from a radical epa, my father is running for you. To single mothers, to families with special needs children, to middleclass families who can no longer afford medical benefits sufficient to cover their needs, my father is running for you. This november i ask you to be true to yourself and vote for the candidate who you know is running for the right reasons. Vote for the candidate who has never been a politician. Vote for a candidate who has never received a paycheck from our government. Vote for the candidate who cant be bought, sold, purchased, bribed, coerced, intimidated or steered from the path that is right and just and true. And, quite frankly, friends, vote for the one candidate who does not need this job. Never have i been more proud to be a trump. Never have i been more proud to be my fathers son. Im incredibly honored to be part of this journey of which hes invited me, don, ivanka, tiffany, my beautiful wife, laura, my entire family to play such an integral part. Dad, you have once again taught me by example, you are my hero, you are my best friend, you are the next president of the United States [ cheers and applause ] god bless america. Donald trumps son eric, giving a rousing speech here in the wake of ted cruzs speech, which got boos from this crowd we witnessed really just a remarkable sort of standoff between those who wanted cruz to endorse donald trump and ted cruz himself who simply refused to. Michael . These speakers named trump, they continue to outshine one another with their poise, with their delivery. Its really remarkable and not something to be taken for granted. Theyve never been in an arena like this before. My one slight criticism, more of the personal. A stranger could have delivered that speech. I dont want to take it away from him, it was a hell of a speech. Theres very few personal anecdotes that anybody seems to have with donald trump. Yeah, and we heard some tonight, the black woman talked about donald trump and the boss she knew, the children there tonight, too. I did think as somebody who is sensitive about the issue of sort of sibling rivalry, i dont want to knock eric trump and compare him to donald trump jr. Donald trump jr. Was a little better. Im not going to say anything until i hear from ivanka. Last night i said i thought it was odd to have a candidates son to deliver such a political speech. This was a political speech, too. I got some push back. I think people look at these kids and have to be at least impressed with the fact that theyre composed, smart and giving a coherent argument and it will reflect on him as a father. It did seem like early on certainly just from watching the hall, there was still a lot of buzz over the incident with ted cruz that we witnessed just before i actually thought that helped eric. I think that the crowd was defiant because they were angry about what cruz had done so they were determined to give this young man a rousing reception. And dont forget, trump entered the house at sort of just the right time so that he could not by coincidence. Right. Let me Say Something about the Adult Children of donald trump. We saw ivanka give a few Little Details of their life, but they are as much as anything i mean, theyre his children but they are his business partners. We cant forget that. And, you know, eric trump runs his golf courses and theyre all involved in his business so thats what they know the best. And here is Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the house. Lets listen. Thank you for that very generous welcome. Thank you calista. I am amazed at her achievements. Im also proud to be here as a republican activist to see the extra effort donald trump has invested in bringing the republican Party Together. With no requirement for endorsement. He encouraged his competitors to speak once again. Governor rick perry, governor Chris Christie, Governor Scott walker, dr. Ben carson, senator marco rubio and senator ted cruz have all responded to Donald Trumps generosity. Now, i think you misunderstood one paragraph that ted cruz, who is a superb orator said and i just want to point it out to you. Ted cruz said you can vote your conscience for anyone who will uphold the constitution. In this election there is only one candidate who will uphold the constitution. To paraphrase ted cruz, the only possible candidate in the fall is the pence trump republican ticket. That way we have a republican ticket to implement republican principles in washington. Now, what i want to focus on is a subject that has dominated my thinking for decades. How do we keep america safe . Keeping america safe is the first responsibility of the american president. There have been many fascinating things to watch about the extraordinary historic rise of donald trump, but the most significant has been Donald Trumps courage to tell the truth about National Security. For example, we are at war with radical islamists, they are determined to kill us, they are stronger than we admit and there is no substitute for victory. In contrast to donald trump, our National Security and Foreign Policy elites led by Hillary Clinton are incapable of speaking with such honesty while they lie about the threat. We need to tell the truth about the danger. If our enemies had their way, not a single woman in this room could define her future. If our enemies had their way, gays, lesbians and transgender citizens would be put to death as they are today in the Islamic State in iran. If our enemies had their way, every person on earth would be subject to conversion by the sword and to a cruel and violent system of law. There would be no individual liberty, there would be no equality, there would be no freedom. If you doubt we are at war, if you doubt that this threat is as real as i say, let me refresh your memory. On monday an afghan refugee in germany used an ax and knives to slash and wound train passengers while shouting last week isis claimed responsibility after a tunisian man drove a cargo truck into a crowd in nice, france, murdered 84 people, including 10 children, 3 persons and injured over 200 others. Two weeks ago almost 300 people were killed and more than 200 were wounded in bombing attacks in baghdad. Two days before that, radical islamists in bangladesh killed 20 hostages, including three American College students. A few days before that at the istanbul airport in turkey, isis attackers armed with guns and bombs killed 44 people and injured hundreds more. Last month a radical islamist in paris stalked a French Police officer to his home where he murdered the officer, tortured his wife to death in front of their 3yearold son while streaming it all on social media. He was pondering out loud whether to kill the 3yearold when he was killed by police. Two days before that an attacker pledging allegiance to isis killed 49 people in an Orlando Night Club and wounded dozens more. All this in just the past 37 days. We cannot let ourselves grow numb to these accumulating atrocities. One analysis estimated one analysis estimated that sense january of 2015 some 30,000 people have been killed at the hands of terrorists. Lets be clear. Donald trump is right. We are at war with radical islamists, we are losing the war and we must change course to win the war. Let me be very clear because i know the news media will do their best to distort this. We have nothing to fear from the vast majority of muslims in the United States or around the world. The vast majority are peaceful. They are often the victims themselves. There are people wed be happy to have as our friends and neighbors. The challenge, the challenge is when even a small percentage of a billion 600 Million People support violence against those who disagree with them, that is still a giant recruiting base. For example, Pew Research Finds only 9 of muslims in pakistan view isis favorably. Unfortunately 9 is 16 Million People. And thats just one country. So the truth is although we are losing the war with radical islamists, we have been very lucky. The danger we face is much worse than the horrors that happened in germany on new years eve when 1,200 women were assaulted. Its worse than whats happening in france when there are stabbings of jews in the streets when europe is, quote, on the brink of civil war. Its worse than whats happening in israel when average citizens fear for their lives when they leave their homes. The danger is even worse than september 11th when 19 hijackers murdered almost 3,000 americans. The worst Case Scenario is losing an American City to terrorists armed with weapons of mass destruction. Instead of losing 3,000 people in one morning, we could lose more than 300,000. Instead of losing two great buildings, we could lose block after block after block to a nuclear event. Thats not just my view. Back in january of 2001 the Hart Rudman Commission warned the terrorists will, quote, acquire weapons of mass destruction and some will use them, americans will likely die on american soil, possibly in large numbers, close quote. 15 years later, pakistan hassenohasse Nuclear Weapons, where north korea has Nuclear Weapons and ju iran is close to having Nuclear Weapons, it is a real threat. Which brings us to the heart of america. We are sleep walking through history as though this is all about politics. It is not. It is about our safety and survival as a country. We cannot keep in place the people and the systems that have brought us to this point and then lie to us every single day about the threat. That is why every american should be terrified at the prospect of a Hillary Clinton presidency. Hillary clinton has been right at the center of this dishonesty. We know this administration and its allies lied to us about the iran nuclear deal. We know it because she openly lied to us in the New York Times, she lied about the terror attack on the benghazi consulate and Hillary Clinton and president obama lie to the American People when they say they can safely convenient the syrian refugees, they cannot. And yet hillary wants to increase the number by 500 . So when you hear about hillarys dishonesty or the emails of taking millions from the saudis and middle eastern dictators, this is not about politics. The first step forward to safety is electing a leader who will be truthful with the American People about the realities we face. Only then will we understand support and demand the strategies required to confront this threat. And because safety and security are the preconditions for our freedom and prosperity, it is also the first step toward rebuilds the america we love. Donald trump understands this. And thats why he will rebuild our military because he knows that a Strong Military is the best way to ensure peace. Donald trump will secure our borders because there is no such thing as a nation without a border. Donald trump will enforce our immigration laws, he will end the policy of deliberate nonenforcement and will end the abuse of our visa programs to protect the american wages and hell take care of our veterans by holding those responsible accountable and will give veterans more choices about their care. With Donald Trumps leadership, no bureaucrat will get between a veteran and their doctor. Donald trump will get america building again. He will blow apart the ridiculous regulations and requirements that drive up infrastructure costs and drag out the timeline to get anything built. The trump Infrastructure Program will make us once again the most competitive economy in the world. Donald trump will rebuild our Education System and give every parent of every income and every ethnic background a choice about where their children go to school and donald trump will help us rebuild and strengthen our communities. Here again, the first step is safety. The basis for Strong Families and good jobs and vibrant neighborhoods, that means restoring law and order. Donald trump will show zero tolerance for people calling for the death of Police Officers. Think about this. If anyone publicly threatens the life of the president of the United States, the secret service is on them in an instant. Our Law Enforcement officers deserve the same respect as the president of the United States. Of course if individual officers are found to have violated someones rights, they must be held accountable under the law. America is based on the rule of law. We are one nation under good, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. That is what has allowed to us absorb more people from more backgrounds than any nation in history. Nobody is above the law and nobody is too small to deserve its protection. Donald trump won our partys nomination because hes willing to tell the truth about the things that matter. He has a great running mate in mike pence. They will put our safety first and they will defend America First. We can be proud to stand with them. So tonight the challenge for everyone in this hall and everyone republican, democrat or independent who is watching at home and knows we cannot continue on our current course is to rise above our factions and rise about the politics weve inherited. To ignore the lies of the news media and reject Hillary Clinton and her allies and stand with donald trump and mike pence, we can make america safe again, we can make america work again, we can make America First again and together we can make America Great again for all americans. Thank you and god bless the United States of america. Newt gingrich, he tried to clean up a little bit for ted cruz, jake, but i dont think it was very successful. This crowd was really not happy with what we heard from ted cruz. He refused to endorse the republican president ial nominee. He attempted a little newt explaining just then when ted cruz said vote your conscience and the person who will defend the constitution, i dont think that thats exactly what ted cruz meant. Ted cruz has been expressing concern for months and months that he doesnt think donald trump will be the protector of the constitution or understands it all that well, and, again, just remarkable that in this very, very widely viewed speech, ted cruz pointedly refused to endorse donald trump. I want to go to dana. Shes on the floor right now doing reporting. It really is an amazing moment here, dana. It certainly is. And the anger is boiling over. So much so, wolf, i am told by a source who was in a donor suite around here when ted cruz walked in after he gave his speech that people were so angry at ted cruz that they were calling him a disgrace to himself face and this source said that a state party chair was yelling at him so angrily that he had to be restrained. That gives you a sense of just how intense the frankly the animosity is here now on the floor. I talked to so many people who love ted cruz, including somebody who ran his campaign in virginia who says that he is very, very disappointed in him. And i talked to Chris Christie. Ill have more on that later. All right, dana. The reaction, i got to tell you, jake, the reaction here, the boos we heard from ted cruz, ive covered a lot of these conventions. Remember a time someone was invited to speak the day before the republican nominee was going to accept the nomination and avoided endorsing that candidate. Heidi cruz, ted cruzs wife, had to be escorted out with trump hecklers yelling at her. It shows just how ugly this race was, the contentious race was, and just how fractious it remains. The speaker of the house, paul ryan, is going to introduce the republican Vice President ial nominee, mike pence. Lets listen in to the speaker. Hello. My fellow republicans, i could not be more proud of our Vice President ial nominee. I served with this man in the house of representatives. We became very good friends. Ive watched this man up close. Ive seen what hes made of. Let me tell you something about mike pence. This is a man of solid character. This is a man who sees Public Service as a calling, not a career. He has served honorably with great dignity. You know what . The results the results are impressive. This is a man who led the charge to ban here marks in congress and he won that fight. As governor of indiana, he passed the largest income tax cut in history, he balanced the state budget. This man is a reagan conservative through and through, pro growth, prolife, pro strong defense. And most importantly, he is the father of three beautiful children, michael, charlotte and audrey, and he calls his wife, karen, the best part of my life. My fellow republicans, the man that you have nominated, hes a man of faith, hes a man of conviction, hes a man you can trust. He comes from the heart of the conservative movement and from the heart of america. And now we need to send him and donald trump straight to the white house. [ cheers and applause ] there is no doubt in my mind that he will bring real change to washington. I have every confidence that he will do us all proud. So, ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to introduce to you the next Vice President of the United States, governor mike pence [ cheers and applause ] mr. Chairman, delegates, friends and my fellow americans, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am deeply humbled by your confidence and on behalf of my family here and gone, i accept your nomination to run and serve as Vice President of the United States of america. Paul, youre a true friend and a Great American leader. But paul knows me well and he knows the introduction i prefer is just a little bit shorter. Im a christian, a conservative and a republican in that order. You know, im new to this campaign and honestly i never thought id be standing here. I thought id be spending this evening with all my friends from the great state of indiana. Yet there i was, a few days ago in new york city with a man who won 37 states, who faced 16 talented opponents and outlasted every one of them and along the way brought millions of new voters into the Republican Party. You know, hes a man known for a large personality, a colorful style and lots of charisma and i guess he was just looking for some balance on the ticket. But for those of you who dont know me, which is most of you, my grandfather emigrated to this country, i was raised in a small town in Southern Indiana with a big family and a corn field in the back yard. Though we werent a big political family, the heros of my ruth were john f. Kennedy and the reverend Martin Luther king jr. When i was young, i watched my dad build everything that matters, a family, a business and a good name. I was raised to believe in hard work, in faith and family. My dad, ed pence, was a combat veteran in korea. If dad were with us today, i have a feeling hed enjoy this moment and probably be pretty surprised. But its such a joy for me to tell you that my mother is here. With would you join me in welcoming the light of my life, my mom, nancy. Growing up i started in politics in the other party until i heard the ideals of the 40th president and i signed on for the reagan revolution. But the best thing that ever happened to me, even counting tonight, is that 31 years ago i married the girl of my dreams, a School Teacher, an artist, she is everything to me. Would you welcome my wonderful wife, karen pence. And regardless of any title ill ever hold, the most important job ill ever have is spelled dad. Karen and i are blessed to be the parents of the three greatest parents in the world, a writer named charlotte, a College Student named audrey and secretary lieutenant in the United States marine core, michael j. Pence. Im so proud of you guys. If you know anything about the hoosier, you know they suit up to win. You have nominated a man for president who never quits, who never backs down, a fighter, a winner. Until now hes had to do it all by himself against all odds but this week with this united party hes got back up and on november 8th i know we will elect donald trump to be the 45th president of the United States of america. Well win because were reasoning on treason unning on the issues and leveling with the American People. The American People are tired of being told that this is as good as its get, tired of telling politicians in both parties telling us well get to that tomorrow while we pile a mountain of debt on our children and grandchildren and as Ronald Reagan used to say, theyre tired of being told a little elite in a far distant capital can plan our lives better for us than we can plan them for ourselves. In the end this election comes down to just two names on the ballot so lets resolve here and now that Hillary Clinton will never become president of the United States of america. Hillary clinton championed obama care because years earlier she had all been invented it. The National Debt has nearly doubled in these eight years and her answer is to keep borrowing and pending and she thinks the path to a growing economy is more taxes, more regulation and more government. Now, they tell us this economy is the best that we can do. Its nowhere near the best that we can do. Its just the best that they can do. Let me tell you, i know firsthand that it doesnt have to be like this. In my home state of indiana we prove every day you can build a growing economy on balanced budgets, low taxes, even while making record investments in education and roads and health care. Indiana is a state that works because conservative principles work every time you put them into practice. Now today while the nation suffers under the weight of 19 trillion in the National Debt, we in indiana have a 2 billion surplus, the highest Credit Rating in the nation, even though weve cut taxes every year since i became governor four years ago. We have fewer state employees than when i took office and businesses large and small have created nearly 150,000 new jobs and theres more hoosiers going to work than ever before. Thats what you can do with common sense Republican Leadership and thats exactly what the no nonsense leadership of donald trump will bring to the white house. You know, donald trump gets it. Hes the genuine article. Hes a doer in a game usually reserved for talkers. And when donald trump does his talking, he doesnt tiptoe around a thousand new rules of political correctness. Hes his own man, distinctly american. And where else would an independent spirit like his find a following than in the land of the free and the home of the brave. The funny thing is [ crowd chanting usa ] you know, the funny thing is the party in power seems helpless to figure out our nominee. The media has the same problem. They all keep telling each other that the usual methods will work against him. They keep thinking theyve done him in only to found him Still Standing stronger than before. The man just doesnt quit. Hes tough. He perseveres. Hes gone about as far as you can go in business but hes never turned his back on the working men and women who make this country grow. And donald trump will never turn his back on those who serve and protect us at home and abroad. You know, its been a heart breaking time for the women and men in our Law Enforcement community. In this time of great testing for them, lets let them know here and now all across this country, we will always stand with those who stand on the thin blue line of Law Enforcement in america. You know, while donald trump was taking my measure as a possible running mate, i did some observing myself. Ive seen the way he deals with people who work for him at every level, and ive seen the way they feel about working for him. Now, ill grant you, he can be a little rough with politicians on the stage and ill bet we see that again. But ive seen this good man up close, his utter lack of pretense, his respect for the people who work for him and his devotion to his family. And if you still doubt what im saying, remember, as we say back home, you cant fake good kids. How about his amazing children. Arent they something . These are the true measures of our nominee, chosen by the voters as the right man for these times. This is the outsider, my running mate, who turned a long shot campaign into a movement. Now, over in the other party, the idea was to present the exact opposite of a political outsider, the exact opposite of an uncalculating truth teller, then on that score you got to hand it to the democratic establishment, they outdid themselves this time. I mean, at the very moment when america is crying out for something new and different, the other party has answered with a stale agenda in the most predictable of names, people in both parties are restless for change, ready to break free of old patterns in washington and democrats are about to anoint someone who represents everything this country is tired of. Hillary clinton wants a better title and i would, too, if i was already americas secretary of the status quo. You know, the choice couldnt be more clear. Americans can elect someone who personifies the failed establishment in washington dchdc or we can change a different leader who will fight every day to make America Great again. When donald trump becomes the president of the United States of america, the change will be huge. You know, for years weve had fundamental problems in america that get talked to death in washington, d. C. But they never get solved and they even get worse. Weve seen entire stretches of our country written off by bad economic policies in ways that are deeply unfair to american workers. We see relentless mandates from the executive branch. It seems like no aspect of our lives is too small for the present administration to supervise and no provision of the constitution is too large for them to ignore. Meanwhile weve seen borders that go unrespected, military thats been diminished, promise after ringing promise to our veterans promptly forgotten. Then donald trump came along. And started saying what practically everybody was thinking anyway, that our leaders need to be stronger. Under donald trump our deals will be smarter, our soldiers will have what they need and our veterans will have what they earned. We will secure our borders, protect our nation. In all this we will be more serious and when we do, this nation will start winning again. You know, thats the message that men and women in both parties have been longing to hear. None of us should think for one second this will be easy. The outcome of this election depends on us and how we contend with an incredible onslaught thats coming our way. You know, this wont be americas first glimpse at the clinton machine in action, as Bernie Sanders can tell you. This time around shell have the press doing half her work for her. The good news is it wont be nearly enough, not against a candidate whos captured the attention of the country the way donald trump has. On issue by issue, he and i will take our case to the voters, pointing out the failures of the Obama Clinton agenda and showing a better way. We will win the hearts and minds of the American People with an agenda for a stronger and more prosperous america. Now, the establishment in washington, d. C. Thinks it only a narrow range of voters who are giving donald trump a serious look, but i can tell you firsthand theres a lot of americans out there who feel like democrat politics have taken them for granted. Its Union Members who dont want a president who promises to put a lot of coal miners and Coal Companies out of business. Those miners want an American Energy policy and they know that donald trump digs coal. Its africanamericans who remember generations of hollow promises of safe streets and safe schools and we know donald trump will fight for equal opportunity and he loves educational choice. And hispanic americans who respect the law want jobs and opportunities for their families, who know that donald trump will uphold the law and get this economy moving for every american. You know the party of lincoln of founded on equality of opportunity and during these difficult days, it will be our party and our agenda that opens the doors for every american to succeed and prosper in this land. You know, in so many ways the Democratic Party has abandon those it used to protect. Maybe theyve become to entrenched in power. So comfortable at times that they lose patience with the normal legislative process. Its so much simpler to impose their values by executive order or court action. And make no mistake about it, Hillary Clinton has some big ideas along those lines, too. As this election approaches, every american should know that while were filling the presidency for the next four years, this election will define the Supreme Court for the next 40. We all better think very carefully, very carefully about what this means for our constitution and limited government. Elect Hillary Clinton and you better get used to being subject to unelected judges using unaccountable power to take unconstitutional actions. Let me say for the sake of the rule of law, for the sake of the sanctity of life, for the sake of our Second Amendment and for the sake of all our other godgiven liberties, we must be sure that the next president appointing justices to the Supreme Court is donald trump. And Hillary Clintons record on Foreign Affairs gets even worse. You know, it was Hillary Clinton who helped undo all the gains of the troop surge, a staggering failure of judgment that set isis on the loose. It was Hillary Clinton who instigated the president s disastrous engagement with the radical mullahs in iran and it was Hillary Clinton in benghazi after four americans fell who said what difference does it make. As the proud father of a United States marine, let me say from my heart anyone who said that, anyone who did that should be disqualified from ever serving as commander in chief of the armed forces of the United States of america. Seven and a half years of barack obama and Hillary Clintons policies have weakened americas place in the world. Terrorist attacks at home and abroad, grim and heart breaking scenes from france just a few short days ago and the attempted coup in turkey, all attest to a world spinning apart. History teaches us that weakness arouses evil. Hillary clinton and Barack ObamasForeign Policy of leading from behind, moving redlines, faining reset with russia and the rise, rule and reign of isis are a testament of this truth of history. We cannot have four more years apologizing to our enemies and abandoning our friends. America needs to be strong for the world to be safe and on the world stage donald trump will lead from strength. Donald trump will rebuild our military and stand with our allies. Donald trump will confront radical islamic terrorism at its source and destroy the enemies of our freedom. And if the world knows nothing else, it will know this america stands with israel. You know, if you looked at the calendar this morning you might have noticed the presidency of barack obama ends exactly six months from today. [ crowd chanting we like mike ] and this much is certain. This much is certain of the obama years, theyre not ending well. There seems to be so many things that divide us, so few great purposes that unite us as they once did. And its at moments like this, moments when politics fail that i believe wed do well to remember that what unites us far exceeds anything that sets us apart in america. That we are as we have always been one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Should i have the awesome privilege to serve as your Vice President , i promise to keep faith with that conviction, to pray daily for a wise and discerning heart, for who is able to govern this great people of yours without it. My fellow americans, i believe we have come to another rendezvous with destiny and i have faith, faith in the boundless capacity of the American People and faith that god can still heal our land. But we have a choice to make. This is another time for choosing. If you want a president who will protect this nation, confront radical islamic terrorism and rid the world of isis, if you want a president who will restore law and order to this country and give Law Enforcement the support and resources they deserve, if you want a president who will cut taxes, grow our economy and squeeze every nickel out of the federal bureaucracy, if you want a president who will build strong borders and enforce our laws and if you want a president who will up end the status quo in washington, d. C. And appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will uphold the constitution, we have but one choice and that man is ready, this team is ready, our party is ready and when we elect donald trump the 45th president of the United States together we will make America Great again. Thank you. And god bless you. And god bless the United States of america. [ cheers and applause ] indiana government mike pence and donald trump coming out on the stage, this his third appearance on this third night of the convention again. No other president ial nominee has appeared every night of his convention, as donald trump has. Mike pences family will also be coming out, his wife, mother and kids. Je jeffrey lord, as someone who was a supporter of donald trump probably longer than most people, its an extraordinary evening, an extraordinary moment. Its an extraordinary moment for donald trump, for his family, for the Vice President , the nominee and his family. I must say i was particularly interested by Newt Gingrichs opening to that speech of his in which he effectively challenged ted cruz and took him on. Kayleigh, there was a lot of question about who donald trump would pick as Vice President. Clearly this crowd in this hall, meek pence, if there was any doubt, he has certainly won them over. Thats absolutely correct. Im reminded of when mike pence was considering running himself. One of the things he said is character is destiny. When you look at that man, you see a man of character, a man of integrity, a man of gentle demeanor. This is exactly who we need and tonight is a victory for conservatism, a victory for the campaign. Democrats will certainly be painting a very different picture of mike pence in the days to come but on this night in this room, he is certainly the man they want. I think he did a very good job. He projected a kind of midwestern earnestness that was winning, selfeffacing humor, a warmth. There are issues down the line to come, including he talked about debt and donald trump has exposure on that issue. They dont agree on trade. Hes got his own issues that were controversial in indiana relative to gay rights and gay marriage. That will come up. But for tonight for this room, and i suspect for a lot of the viewing audience, i think he played very well. I think it was a Pitch Perfect speech. He is a regular politician and somehow in this convention it almost seems weird to hear a traditional, conservative speech. But weve been talking this entire convention about wheres the beef . Wheres the substantial . And what mike pence did tonight was talk about conservatism and relate it to donald trump and said, by the way, poked a little fun at donald trump, he said, look, he doesnt tiptoe around things, you know, and he presented his ticket as change against the status quo and he outlined why he believes Hillary Clinton should be disqualified from becoming president , which is his job. We should also point out, john, this is the the first night that this room has remained packed until this late hour, and in other nights there had been some questions about the order of things. I think tonight was certainly far more electric for this crowd from the beginning and far more sort of cohesive. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what a Political Convention looks like. Theres energy in the room tonight, excitement in the room tonight. There was high drama, jeffrey was noting. That may have been part of ted cruzs problem. But mike pence is more important tonight. Drft seems o forget that hes lost. But this is why they went to donald trump and say, look, you have skeptics in this room, because you. On this night give mike pence an aplus. Theyre going to say on social issues, theyre way over there. The democrats i dont think are going to spend too much time on mike pence. But he did his job tonight. You know, one small thing i dont understand, including ive been very critical of the stage craft. Between the two of them and it still seems as if theyre look oil and water in some ways. It as if trump doesnt want to fully embrace him. Normally theres this this big moment with the candidate, the candidates holding their hands aloft the picture after the announcement of pence, in which donald trump completely up staged his choice of pence, maybe this was donald trump getting some advice, you know, this is pences night so kind of back off. But the stage craft require the picture, the warm, this isnt donald trump. Theres sort of a formal hand shake and the thumbs up. He did say he did a fantastic job and then they did have the big reunion today with he flew in the pt or at were going to talk about this. Lets play some of what ted cruz said in this hall. We also have amanda is grab some popcorn and watch this. The case we have to make to the earn people, the case each person in this room has to make is to commit to each of them that we will defend freedom be faceful in rife we will unite the country for standing to the for shared values, by standing for liberty. God bless each and every one of you and god bless the United States of wrerk. America. Having some trouble with that video. First of all, when the new york delegation realized that truds was not going to be endorsing drz. Congratulateth congratulate at the top of spees but that was only the aware clearly that this was going to be occurring, they had i assume worked out in advance that donald trump would enter the conventional at the appropriate time to elengsly steal the attention away from trud reporting afterward, i had gone up to one of the donor boxes and i was accosted by trump supporters. One person who be yelling goldman sacks, be very aggressive. Without a doubt this convention shows that the Party Remains in crisis. This is as good as it get for him. Ted cruz could have taken. You are facing too many nominees who have prove i dont know they will lie again and again and again. Stay true to your principles. Some pay maybe the choice for donald trump but you eye now i will also tell you, if you get invited to a dinner party, you t toe. I was afraid you were going to Say Something else. Im glad that all you said. I thought it was tacky. It wasnt grash, miss flanders, mcmanus would not approve. I think it was. When you say it like that do what mub wro did. Check the check the box. Caylee, should he have been so many nuts as well. Now he came here because he wanted to position himself as the man for 202 pop what we saw in 197 6 because theres a difference here. Pau pause he came here, he faced down a crowd that was booing him and stood there and took it p the and your analogy is absolutely perfect. Ronald reaganan came down over of that u so aing Ronald Reagan was dibld im talking about the same thing. Pop lie and lie and lie again on live tv. So how can we congratulate them and throw roses a the their feet . So this is about personal pettiness and bruised egos and not the nation . I think in a way this benefited donald trump. Hes shown he is the master of his domain. We are definitely a divided party. Lets please not sugar coat it and pretend that is not the case. At the same time, donald trump got shooed, like a stray cat. First of all, i were so many and its like going to a wedding and standing up after you spoke for 30 minutes in primetime. That is the way you handle this on tv. Oh, come on, it 11 30 at night. And people didnt like it, and i look at what john kasich did and i say kasich played it the right way. If he wasnt going to endorse, he didnt show up. And i think what cruz did was outline his agenda for 20 20 at Donald Trumps party. And when you look, you know, people in advance were trying to compare it to Barack Obamas speech in 2004, will and Newt Gingrich had to come out and do damage control. I cant help but think, i mean, donald trump earlier before these kwekss, when you were talking about manningi got to say its been pretty interesting. Im not saying it good for the party, but its been interesting. And we talked about this earlier. For donald trump, that seems to be the model, the central theme. Make it controversial. Everybody wants a convention to be scripted. He has to deal with his negatives, support among women, ditch about latinos. Instead this has been about plagiarism im old school. Conservative is manners, right . You dont go into somebody elses house but ted cruz is among the republicans and he would say hes a conservative first and republican second, who are making a bet that this is an accident. This is my mothers aim used us a different way. He went to the he is so hes saying this is an admiration and a wonder, or an accident. We dont know what it is. The ground of the republican family led on to our fate. I said earlier that ted cruz was making a bet that it is a blimp. We saw tonight three young republican leaders, all of whom still aspire to the presidency, you saw ted cruz, he approached it one way. You saw scott walker, who gave a rousing speech here and really coined of kind of captivating the room. He was out so early, he didnt even get a pejorative nickname for donald trump. And then you have marco rubio who i actually thought of the three in person ways, his was too tutsi by. I mean, it was classic marco rubio, trying to have it both ways. And i have o say, this was classic beths role. Hes the establishment. I did hear from a black republican who had been complaining about a lot of the speeches and he loved cruise. He said this was the peech that about didnt really play it well here in the crowd but i think some actually actually booed. There is this calculation is a. Al hide himself, those are the two guys who did not attack one another. Who knows the things that he said in the past and at that poem he believed donald trump is a constitutional conservative because he stood by them i dont think he believes hes a stusal conservative. I they you see, donald trump also attached him to fred tuesday when it was for the tina. And i frankly think donald trump should be sentding ted cruz a fruit basket tomorrow. We should be talking about melanias expaid i didnt mean for someone who gave owe passionately owe, yes, we to saying vote your ken the situation here with ted cruz normally in this kind of situation, jake, the Republican National committee or donald trump and his because he refused to endorse the republican nominee. Im not sure whether the Trump Campaign approved the remarks or not. They didnt approve. Im not sure they knew the remarks. Normally at a Convention Like this, you know exactly what each speaker is going to say. You and i have covered a lot. There are now speakers who have spoken, mike huckabee, calling ma dri general the attacks come and trud they are strong, vicious and unrelenting. Absolutely. Look, tlurp there on the floor. You could feel the the crowd turned on him and i cannot overstate how many of his own supporters im talking about. For example, the person who ran his campaign in virginia told me that he failed the nation and he told me that he believes that he would never support ted cruz again and he said he made a big mistake. You were talking about the competitors, who were not very happy, said he should stick to his pledge to support the nominee. One of them was Chris Christie, who was on the floor with the new jersey delegation, i talked to him right after. What did you think of the speech . He signed a pledge and its his job to speak his word. Donald trump give him an opportunity to i think its why ted has so richly deserved the reputation that hes developed on capitol hill. Are you saying that he gave donald trump a promise that he would endorse him here . No. Yes, he did. He gave donald trump a promise the same eye did, the same day everyone sounded no matter what happens, were going to support the republican knee for president. Thats when he gave the promises. I dont know what conversations he and domd may have had since that time. And thats not what im talking about. Every one of us signed a pledge and you words should matter. Thats what disgusts people out in your audience, that they give their word and think hes negotiable. Ive been critical of those folks as i still think they should keep their word, but the fact is he came into this room tonight and then did not keep his word. And, listen, dont take it from me. Listen to this crowd here. They gave him a chance. This crowd was very respectful and supportive for a good part of that speech, but the later it got in the speech and to say cute things like you should vote for candidates you believe in from the top of the ticket to the bottom and dont stay home in november, in is the kind of washington talk that people in this country are repelled by. I have to tell you i sat there shaking my head unfortunately, not surprised. And dana, you were on the floor. Similar reaction . Absolutely. Not just from die hard trump supporters, people who were very much in the ted cruz camp and it took a while for them to get to a place where they can support donald trump but they are and they think there should be party unity. Ather or not the Trump Campaign had seen the speech beforehand. No, they didnt approve it but they did know about it not that long ahead. I had reported maybe a half han hour, before we got the speech on an embargoed basis, theres no question that the Trump Campaign, im not sure if donald trump actually knew but they knew. At that point its too late to prevent him from speaking. There was no requirement. Donald trump did not require ted cruz to endorse him in order to speak. And the Trump Campaign and the Republican National committee and Republican Convention had copies of the speech before ted cruz took to the stage. Exactly. So i dont know if they approved of the remarks but there was no requirement that they need to approve the remarks. Thats all im saying. Absolutely. The other thing i was going to say is because obviously what ted cruz did is so controversial, im not going to defend ted cruz or prosecute ted cruz but let me offer perspective for viewers as to why ted cruz did what ted cruz did having talked to people close to ted cruz. One, he legitimately does not think donald trump is a conservative and legitimately does not understand what donald trump knows what it means to be a conservative. Again, im not defending this or articulating this as the right decision, he is going to say if donald trump does not win in november, i was the conscience of the party, not only did i not endorse donald trump, i went to the convention and i took a stand for what we all believe in. Marco rubio did not do that, and paul ryan did not do that. Ted cruz is never going to forget the words that donald trump uttered about ted cruzs wife and ted cruzs father. Thats true but i do think that jake is nailing the reason for this. It not so much of personal, that hes gotten over that or at least he can get past it as others have. Its the core belief that donald trump is not as conservative as he should be to be the republican nominee. You mentioned his wife. One thing i do want to add in terms of what went on down there and this comes from our colleague, he was saying that there was such chaos that heidi cruz, ted cruzs wife, was sitting down there and that their friend and ally, ken cute trin ellie, a member of the virginia delegation, helped escort her out because they were concerned that there would be a safety issue for her. One quick thing. We cannot also obviously i agree that the principles at stake and his own political future from foremost among why ted cruz did what he did, but the retweet, when donald trump retweeted an ugly picture of his wife and then suggested very specifically, and its ludicrous, that raphael cruzs father played some kind of role with the kennedy assassination, of course that played a role. How could it not. Right now i want to introduce the general counsel of the trump organization, Michael Cohen, who joins us now you, one of Donald Trumps mow stalwart defenders. I wanted to just jump in for for a second. I think that ted cruz tonight, the only way to sum it upsuicid. Where is the honor on reneging on a pledge when you stand in front of the people of the United States and hold your hand up, remember what you put mr. Trump through when he refused to raise his hand in the beginning, it was days upon days of bashing of mr. Trump that he would not raise his hand and would not honor the pledge. Ted cruz was not looking to honor any pledge unless he or somebody that he approves is the candidate. Thats not the american system. Again, i really believe he committed political suicide today. Lastly, the Republican National committee, the party itself, should never back a single candidate who does not honor the pledge. So i think that if the rnc ends up backing him in 2020, i think that it would be a terrible mistake for them to do as well. Michael, let me ask you, was there some sort of deal between the Trump Campaign and the cruz forces that ted cruz would forego im not part of the campaign. But you havent heard no. First of all, mr. Trump clearly went over the 1,237. There was nothing ted cruz could do about it. He could have forced an ugly fight. What he behaved like today of the difference between mr. Trump, who is an adult and mr. Cruz who behaved like a baby. I remember the last debate that cnn hosted and i moderated. On stand, donald trump, john case beinkasic kasich, marco rubio was there and ted cruz. Of those three opponents, do you think any of them handled it proper way . I think marco rubio did handle it. So hes safe. 100 the rnc should not endorse him, they should not back him in any recollection campaign. Paul do you think if donald trump is president or even if he is not president , that there will be an effort to defeat ted cruz in the news. I dont know. Phil how did he lie . He raised his hand and he said i will honor the pledge. He lied. It exactly what mr. Trump and all of these supporters are here for tonight, theyre angry at the establishment. Theyre angry at Hillary Clinton. Its about time that our represent stiffs who we put into power, they reportedly told the troups. I. If she was owe concerned about her safety, why wouldnt they get ouf the theres no need for it. He should not be allowed to run for dog catcher. Hes supposed to run i mean, you saw the boos that came. And they are right. He started off wonderfully. He was well received and everybody received his properly and they were waiting for him to honor his pledge. The guy lied. They booed him. So let me play devils advocate here from the perspective of ted cruz, if ted cruz thinks donald trump is not a real conservative, doesnt honor the constitution and knows for a fact that donald trump lying and mr. Trump retweeted it. We have to stop putting so much emphasis on tweets and retweeting and so on. He didnt turn. You have breaking news, another ax murderer running around on the trains im not talking about a tweet right now. But i take your point that it not the access one way or another as the apacks on isis, thank go to amanda carpenter. She used to work for ted cruz. Well get her reaction. What did republican and independent voters think of ted cruz as my reill take it. I just need your card. This is no mere card swipe. You just activated world wide applications of payment. This is secure access. And if you guy have delivery details, just so you can sand in. In the ow we have real reviews and we actually verify. We can also verify that what goes down, doesnt always come back up. When youre passionate about certainly, it shows. At weathertec, our fashion can be seen in everything we design and build here in america. It all offers the ultimate pro telecommunication for your vehicle, all to keep you looking like a winner. Protection, completely american made. Welcome back to our continuing coverage of the third night of the convention. Donald trumps attorney said we shouldnt make too much of tweets or retweets but donald trump just tweeted about a minute or couple minutes ago saying, wow, ted cruz got bood off the stage, didnt honor the pledge. I saw his speech two hours early but let him speak anyway. No big deal. And another example of donald trump doing thing that any traditional republican consultant would say do not do. Earlier today when. He tweets hey, all this tonight et supposed to be about mook pence, framing the this is supposed to be the healing war. I want to go to amanda because Michael Cohen referenced you and senseessentially said t cruz committed political suicide tonight. They are so focused on general generals, their on i think standing up to those dangers is far more important than upholding any pledge to the rnc. I love you but youre sounding like a liberal. Is it liberal to say we should not compel members of the military are you saying george w. Burn engaged in torture . Im saying they passed laws. Do you agree with what obama has i is that what you agree with . Who is the liberal now . I am saying that donald trump i do too. Look, one of the problems here for ted cruz is a lot of people that were booing ted cruz are in fact conservatives. But ted cruz they conservatives. This is an important moment in time. Ted cruz took a risk. You may not agree with that but that was his choice. Walker spoke for a lot of republicans. On this very stage on august 6th i said any one of these republicans would be better than Hillary Clinton. We heard that. There are a lot of republicans who feel they may not like trump but shehe is a heck of a lot ber than clinton. What is it that they are political calculuses that they think if trump looses they dont want to alienate the voters. How much they will do for him remains to be seen. For rubio, remember he is running for reelection in a state where trump won every county except miamidade. Trump is unpopular with hispanics. But he won the rest of the entire day makes sense and the stage craft and the tv production. The plane coming in as ted cruz was speaking. The helicopter. Laura ingram out there beating the drum against ted cruz. I mean, this thing was a thing of beauty. If he doesnt win the presidency, hire him toll run so now im beginning to believe, now that youve said so now im getting to believe that this was all a setup, that this was all a setup which was your point, john, that maybe the helicopter, apprenticelike was flying over ted cruzs press conference. At the right time. The plane the plane and that tonight, because they knew two days in advance youre making the because they knew two days in advance that cruz was not going to endorse, donald trump knew that, and only ted cruz, who is so disliked, excuse me, amanda, but he is so disliked, only ted cruz could turn donald trump into a subject of some sympathy this evening. So this was designed to embarrass ted cruz . Yes yes if only they put that much thought into melania trumps speech it would have been great. If they knew, the boos came from the new york delegation first. We have to take a break. Well have more on this. Were on for the next hour. A lot to consider. Still ahead, republican and independent voters in this crucial Battle Ground state react to the drama at this convention tonight. Donald trump has given an interview to the New York Times about Foreign Policy. A lot of headlines. Well talk about that and a reality check. Did tonights speakers get their facts straight . Details ahead. See me. See me. Dont stare at me. See me. See me. See me to know that psoriasis is just something that i have. Im not contagious. See me to know that. Welcome back to our continuing coverage of i apologize. There is no way around it. Nia at one point said it was gangster, somebody was throwing shade. Im not sure who it was. Cruz. Cruz was throwing shade. I want to show you just again, some of the moments, ted cruz speaking, with some of the booing going on. Lets play that. P stand and speak and vote your conscious, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom. And to be faithful to the constitution. [ crowd chanting endorse trump ] i appreciate the enthusiasm of the new york delegation. The new york delegation was chanting. It started with trump and then endorse trump. If you look closely at the picture it is not just the new york delegation. You have the florescent hats. This is not an organic, why not . They read the speech. They knew it was going to happen. Trump talked to him two days ago. Theyre chanting we should cue up the video where trump is waiting up top for the moment and there is this amazing moment where he is clapping like he is a agreeing with what cruz is saying and he starts walking down and you can see everybody being told he is up there and starting to turn. This is such a setup. I was watching the monitor, the cameras were on trump of course, did anybody see ted cruz leave the stage . No. I think he might have dropped the mike. There is an old saying pay backs a the only president i can think for this is when Nelson Rockefeller took to the podium and read the riot act to the conservatives, and they started booing and using the air horns and all of this sort of thing. That was a little marx brothers. And so finally, rockefeller stops, the chairman comes over and rocky says to him, well, you know, if you get your chair under control here, ill finish up and go. Pretty good. But dont forget that hundreds of these delegates are cruz supporters, too. Yeah. So this has to be organized. There is another moment of sort of stage craft that we should talk about, too, after pences speech, donald trump came out, you talked about it a little bit. But there was an awkward air kiss, like, i dont know what that was exactly, some sort of touching of the you know, listen, that guy is a germaphobe. That was odd. David, you were talking about you were talking about the stage craft of that moment. I think there is still this i think this is a forced marriage here between pence and trump and i think pence did very well for trump tonight. Theyre still so fund mentally different and that level of comfort. Sometimes they grow overtime. Like biden and barack obama for example. The body language thus far has not been great. Ill tell you what pence did tonight which was very important. Pence showed tonight that despite all of the differences they had until now, he is ready to embrace trump. Let trump take lead, be the dance lead in this show and he is ready to be the attack dog. He is ready to be policy chops and trumps number two. And there was a very interesting position here. We had mike pence and i had this overwhelming sense of humility. That is with a guy who not saying ted cruz, not saying i never thought this day would happen but in fact, planning for that day to happen in 2020. It was a very odd position i heard this soemts even with the obama care filibusters which made him unpopular in washington, damaged a lot of relationships, oh, he is doing this for his political benefit. No one in their right mind would come to a convention with a lot of donors and say im going to get booed and it will help me do better in 2020. There is a difference between doing something because it will play one way in the halibut thinking longer term or thinking how it may be playing back at home or elsewhere in the country. Is everything about four years from now . It is silly to think the landscape will change. Cynical people said he would run for president in 2016 and that was crazy. He wouldnt do it if he didnt believe it. Anderson, john berman established a group of voters in a focus group. You had an opportunity to see their reaction during that cruz moment if you will. John, how did this react . It was really interesting. These are undecided voters, both republicans and independents and just as all of you, the political professionals were saying, youve never seen anything like it before, these folks say theyve never seen anything like it before. A show of hands first, how many of you were surprised and confused by the back and forth between ted cruz and the audience and donald trump. That is unaminity. We had microsoft pulse where we could dial test. Lets see how the reaction was happening real time. If you love our country and love your children as much as i know that you do, stand and speak and vote your conscious, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to be constitution. So you can see the mass confusion in the hall. There was confusion here as well. What were you kpekting from ted cruz. I was expecting ted cruz to endorse donald trump, say his name more than once or no times that he did. That is what i was expecting. He never said his name. He just kind of told everybody to vote on the republican line. And i was watching you all have closely as it was going on. And i could see you just laughing and being, like, oh, wow, what is going on here snr. Well, i didnt expect him to endorse donald trump based upon what he was saying. Just didnt think it was going to happen. I didnt think it was going to happen. What about you . I didnt think he was either. I didnt think he would endorse him but the back and forth between the audience and what was going on there and then, boom, there is donald. There is donald. Let me ask you for a show of hands because we were asking whether this was good for trump or cruz. How many of you are more likely to vote for ted cruz in 2020 based on what you saw tonight if he is a candidate . That is roughly 0 . A 0 support rate for what ted cruz did tonight in the hall from undecided voters. He did talk about the issues that donald trump talked a lot about in the campaign. Ted cruz brought up the wall. You might be surprised by how this crowd reacted to that. Lets play it. We deserve an immigration system that puts America First and yes, builds a wall to keep america safe. All right, you can see the undecided crowd here of voters, they didnt like the idea of the wall one bit. You were particularly vocal about that. I just dont see any way that theyre actually going to pay to build it. I pumped into a republican that worked for opposing campaign. He didnt like the wall. He said undecided voters hate the wall. This is a guy who lost to donald trump in the primary. That was interesting to hear. Over shadowed by all of this, maybe, was mike pence. Donald trumps republican running mate. This was his big coming out party. The audience here, they kind of liked mike pence. Watch this. He is a man known for a large personality, a colorful style and lots of charisma, i guess he was just looking for some balance on the ticket. You can see, there were nice laughs in the audience in the convention. People seem to be very supportive of mike pence when mike pence was talking about mike pence. You like mike pence a lot. Yes, i did. What did you like . Well, he seemed very trust worthy and seems like a guy that has a very good, strong, like, family values, religion values and he is all about what the Republican Party is. So it was very interesting, though, people here liked mike pence when he was talking about mike pence. Let me see a show of hands here, how many of you thought he did an effective job selling donald trump. Raise your hand if you thought mike pence was effective in that . So not at all. No hands raised right here. Not one. Mike pence, popular, more popular, do you like mike pence, more popular after this speech than before. Raise your hand if you like mike pence more than before. Raise your hand if you like donald trump more than before these speeches tonight. So you can see, very, very interesting from this group of undecided voters. Mike pence sells well. Mike pence selling donald trump. Not as well. Wolf . Very interesting, thanks to all of the independent Republican Voters in that focus group for us. Jake and dana, i guess the up roar will continue for awhile on the decision to allow him to speak if donald trump, as he tweeted, do knew in fact he was going to endorse him. Donald trump says you know what . You want to speak, go ahead and speak. Paul manafort did a briefing with reporters and he had some things to say about this in his low key style. He acknowledged that the campaign was disappointed that mr. Cruz, senator cruz didnt say anything more positive. He insisted there were no commitments, that ted cruz did not promise that he would endorse donald trump and donald trump did not give him the space and time to do it in exchange for his endorsement he said, mr. Trump felt he finished second and should have a good spot so he did. He was trying to unify the party and not withstanding what senator cruz said tonight, the party came together. There was an acknowledgement that donald trump made the offer to speak without any conditions. He felt senator ted cruz might be a little more politically smart. Paul manafort was asked should ted cruz apologize and Paul Manafort says that is up for senator credits to decide so an acknowledgement that theyre disappointed in what he it to say and no real vitriol. He is not prone for vitriol. The other thing that is interesting is that he said that the reason donald trump came down when he did is because the next speaker or the speaker was going to be eric trump and he wanted to see eric trump. However, a different person in the Trump Campaign says the reason he came in was to be the bigger man and to because he knew that the crowd was going to turn on ted cruz so he was trying to take the heat off of him. That is another source is saying that. I think it just shows theyre trying to figure out the best way to put this forward because i was down there. It certainly looked to me like that was a man who knew how to up stage somebody else and he did it, whether it was to take the heat off or just to show, remember, guys, im the nominee, not the guy on the stage. Dont worry about it. You know, well see. The one thing i also want to say is that a cruz aide is saying they did speak two days ago, they meaning trump and cruz so theyre confirming that on the cruz side of this but theyre also pushing back saying this should not be a surprise to anybody. They did get the speech ahead of time, as we reported. And we reported you know, over an hour before he delivered this speech that the Republican Party and the officials back stage, they it had it in their hands. They read it, they knew it, so it was not a surprise. You pointed out at the time in the report there, was always the possibility that be he could ad lib and Say Something more positive. That was the point manafort was making when he talked to reporters, he was hoping they would do that. The thing i have to say, we have to remember that the Trump Campaign is clearly convinced that this whole situation was a win win. If he came here, he, ted cruz came here, gave the speech, endorsed donald trump, that is great for trump. If he came here, gave the speech, didnt endorse donald trump, got booed, that is good for donald trump in the shortterm. Can i say one thing . The other day i was reading the auto biography of Jackie Robinson. He was a republican, jackie robin seen was a big supporter of rockefeller. He has a whole chapter about how disappointed he was to see all of these men that he really admired, george romney, mitt romneys dad, and others, scranton from pennsylvania, all of these people who had said horrible things about Barry Goldwater and he was terrifying and an awful president , they all come on a stage like this one in San Francisco and say we need to nominate Barry Goldwater. He should be our president and while i know that ted cruz is the least popular person in this stadium right now and will have some tough weeks and months ahead, there are people out there who will think as Jackie Robinson did about rockefeller, im glad he did not endorse somebody he thinks is a horrible person. Absolutely. And i will say to that point one of ted cruzs closest supporters just tweeted something exactly to that point. Remember, like you were saying before, he went after his father as somebody involved in the jfk assassination. Being down there in the texas delegation, to a person, these were hard core cruz supporters, they wanted him to endorse trump party for unity. That did not happen. Well take a quick break. A reality check on some of the tough accusations against the obama administration. Did the republicans Vice President ial nominee stretch the truth or did he tell it straight . Ow. Are you okay . Appointments available now. Welcome back tonight three of the Republican National convention. This is from cnn, comments made by representative peter king, pete king from new york. Let me guess. Who is no fan of ted cruz, but he said cruzs refusal to endorse trump was disgraceful and and called him an ahole or calling him an and that ahole doesnt do cruz justice. Tonight america saw the real ted cruz. A fraud, self centered liar and should be disqualified from being a president of the United States in the future. I never liked the guy, never trusted him. Tonight was the worst. Take the time in a National Convention and not endorse the nominee is disgraceful. It is almost trumpian. What does he really think . Did it help donald trump tonight. It proved that the Republican Party is unified and focused on the general election. That is why you have a convention. As fascinating as it was, did it unify people or distract from the other messages they wanted . During the break, david made a key point, in the moment, this there was energy in the hall tonight whether it is mike pence or this, there was drama, it was fun to watch and see. It is unpredictable. Lets go back to the beginning. Since the second donald trump came down the escalator, all of the norms and traditions, turn them out. After two tea Party Elections where the Republican Base seemed to be saying we want an idealogical conservative, donald trump wins the primary. Forget rules. He is continuing to egg this on about ted cruz when any traditional consultant will say stop, focus on the general election. Focus on Hillary Clinton. Give mike pence his due for the change versus the status quo argument. Lets not apply the normals and rules to donald trump because he has his own set. In his view, they have worked for him. Were talking about division tonight. Not unity, not a great speech that mike pence gave or actually a great speech. I have to say in this hall by the end of the night it seemed pretty unified. He only need 64,000,984 but were sitting here wondering whether it was Donald Trumps floor organization that whipped up the boos. It was not a confidence that it started with the new york delegation, and once he got in the building. And we saw donald trump come down at this Pitch Perfect moment. Were not talking about Donald Trumps agenda, how donald trump is change versus the status quo as mike pence pointed out, how clinton is the sect actually, gloria, i would disagree with that. We are talking about that . I think that donald trump as a television performer, understands the art of show, dont tell, instead of having a discussion about the status quo, his standing there was saying hey, here i am. Donald trump hasnt really talked a lot about the details and foreign pomlicy and it has done him very well. Maybe you what you want is a change and roll the dice, it adds to that. First of all, what donald trump did tonight was make lemonade out of lemons, okay . He had invited ted cruz awhile ago, probably thinking that ted cruz would come around, ted cruz didnt. When donald trump learned about it, he figured out how to up stage him from start to finish. Now, at the same time, we have been reliving, relitigating, the republican primary this week. It started with a fight with kasich, the popular governor of a purple state were standing in that he needs to win if he wants to win the presidency and relitigating the primary with ted cruz. But donald trump won again. If donald trump is such a good showman, i looked at the visual and i think the visual that is going to stick is that the Republican Party as led by donald trump were booing a man on the stage saying vote yoir conscious, sta conscience. The chairman of the Republican National committee should tell people vote your conscious . It is not something a candidate should be afraid of. Why have a Political Party. Your Political Party represents your conscience. There is a reason in the focus group did this help ted cruz in eight years, however how many, no one raised their hands. Tonight he looked like the washington insiders he decries. That is exactly right. One at a time. One at a time. When you look at his statements in june. I think donald trump is terrific. He speaks the truth. Again in june, he has the experience of a successful businessman that helps us. In july, he takes on the washington cartel. In august you know he is not telling the truth. We know that. We know how the political game works but lets actually listen to what were seeing. If this man believes in constitutional conservism and he believes donald trump is such a threat to that, he should never have allied himself with donald trump. First of all, i dont know why he wanted lyin teds endorsement if youre going to go with with what people have said before. This headline, cruz doesnt endorse trump and is booed by the crowd is not the story that donald trump should want coming out of this evening and i think the issue isnt how this is going to affect ted cruz in four or eight or two years. It is how will it affect donald trump in the coming months when he is the candidate for president of United States. The papers will never give flattering headlines. They dont give republican candidates flattering headlines. It wont be mike pence gives brilliant speech that articulates reagan conservism. Can we take a step back and ask ourselves. Weve been here for three days. Were any of these nights successful for donald trump . Tonight. Tonight was entertaining. In a reality tv way, yes it was, i would argue mike pence gave a great speech, were not talking about it. Last night we couldnt figure out what the theme, you know, of the convention was. So the question is youre supposed to have a theme and a subject for every night and maybe im oldfashioned but i think youre trying to build your case to the American Public about who you are. And what you represent and i havent seen it. His people, before the convention sort of likened the theme of his speech. He talked about Richard Nixons speech in 1968. One of the things he said is a party that can unite himself can unite america. This party isnt united. There is sort of a two pronged thing that these candidates have to do when they come in here. Unite the party as an argument for saying they can unite the america. Tomorrow is make america one. I think it will be hard to make the case. By leaps and bounds and leaps and bounds more the most important night is tomorrow night. If he does the business he needs to do, not with the people within this room but with the people out there, much of this will be forgotten. If he does not, this will be the Collateral Damage if you will. Donald trump often measures success by ratings and guys, you call your girlfriend and youre like, girl, turn off real house wives and put on cnn because this is good. We can only hope. We can say the party is sorry, i know andy cohen is your best friend. When i see that focus group and when i hear the floor, together, booing this candidate and when i see the fact that a month after the nomination donald trump had consolidated more republicans than Ronald Reagan had, this is a united party and oh, it is not. It is not. Nobody can hear you. This is not a united panel. How can you tell america that this is a united panel. Weve had [ inaudible ] what are you saying, kayleigh. I watched the focus group, too, and they asked did you hear anything that made you more inclined to be for donald trump and they said no. Which is, it should be a source of concern. Here is another issue. Donald trump for reasons that are unbee announced to anyone decided to give an interview to the New York Times tomorrow on Foreign Policy and he gave it today. It will air tomorrow. On the eve of his speech that you think should be and should be the focus of this whole weekend. It says on the eve of accepting election he would not pressure turkey or allies about conducting purges of the political adversaries or cracking down on civil liberties. The United States has to fix our own mess before trying to alter the behavior of other nations and the interview goes on and why would you step on your own story . To the unity point, we have seen at this convention, in polite ways but joany just spoke at the convention, took issue on donald trump on the iraq war saying that is a disservice to the people who served. Marco rubio and Chris Christie have disagreed with donald trump about his views on russia and putin saying i can get along with putin and how dare you do that. This is not a unified party. If pence disagrees here is the problem, mike pence gave a speech and laid out a Foreign Policy that is inconsistent with the interview that his own candidate gave this very day. We have a shot of what, the boston globe . The Boston Herald. Lets look at what the headline in the Boston Herald is. Clever. And again, it is is the story tomorrow mike pence you know, giving his acceptance speech or is it ted cruz . That is the juice. That is certainly going to be the story, but that is not a reflection on the wonderful night that when the american viewers saw the unadulterated speechers without the lenses of commentary. They have Donald Trumps ear, are his children with their steady hands. Mike pence, who is a steady hand and a calm voice and a measured person. We saw who Donald Trumps inner circle is. Donald trump gave a 45 minute interview for the times on Foreign Policy, National Security, at one point said even while keeping an eye on Television Broadcasts from the Republican National convention. Here in his hotel room in cleveland. It is so interesting to me was this paragraph. Ill read it to you. He even called into question whether as president he would automatically extend the security guarantees that give the 28 members of nato the assurance that the full force of the United States military has their back. This is a significant statement because nato is based on the assumption that if one ally is in danger, all allies must come to the defense of the ally. A significant statement here. He is saying thag unless he has reached the conclusion that those other countries are paying their share, that he will not guarantee that. Ill tell you something i found remarkable because i mean, from the days john f kennedy, Ronald Reagan and other politicians dating back have talked about the United States as a shining city on a hill. The idea of american exceptionalism, the idea that we have a moral right and obligation to tell other countries how to behave because we exemplify human rights as we try to improve constantly. He said something that contradicted something. I dont think we have a right to lecture, he said. How will we lecture when people are shooting police men in coldblood. So the idea that two psycho paths. Two evil People Killed cops. One in baton rouge and one in that suggests we dont have a right to tell turkey to president erdogan, dont oppress your people. This, whether you like it or not and obviously there are thousands, millions of people who like it, this is a huge break from the republican brand of politics. In the 2004 election, there was the argument against carry, that democrats believe in multi laterism while bush and mccann and romney that we are a superior country. Mr. Trump is saying that we dont he says, he doesnt seem to, i dont think we have a right to lecture he says. Absolutely, but this is actually a place where donald trump has been consistent throughout his oh, sure. During his president ial campaign and it does make him incredibly different foreign minister so many of his republican colleagues and why so many of his republican colleagues on Foreign Policy so strongly disagree with him because he has said you know what . Back to the iraq war, Saddam Hussein wasnt a great guy but there was stability. He is not alone in the thinking and the next step in the argument that he made here which is, it is not our place. The headline in the New York Times, donald trump plays down role of u. S. In global crisis. Paul manafort, the Campaign Chairman is pushing back on some of this. One of the journalists that did this interview, she said theyll release the transcript of the interview to clarify if in fact the New York Times is reporting it incorrectly. Paul manafort was telling us there was no plagiarism in the speech and obviously a few hours later, a few days later, the campaign acknowledged there was. Ill take that with a grain of salt. Also it is unclear what he is pushing back on, as we were saying, this is the quotes. Not just that. You did an interview with donald trump the first interview where he talked about in march. Right. The possibility of maybe not sticking with the Nato Alliance if in fact nato still forced o e pay so much of the dues. Nato goes obsolete unless they step up to the plate, pay what they need to pay. The United States has to reconsider the whole Nato Alliance. And that is consistent and he said that back to you in march. Let me say, a lot of people, a lot of Foreign Policy experts can find some agreement with mr. Trump on that, the idea that the United States pays democratic and republican president s alike have tried to get nato to pay up. That is not outside the mainstream. What he is saying is the United States is not a shining city on a hill. That is a break from republican politics that i have not seen ever. It is what john mccain ran against barack obama on. That very issue. Can you imagine that in 2008 exactly. Barack obama said i dont think we have the right to lecture other countries. In 2012 what mitt romney would do if barack obama had said that. It would be a stunning attack but i suspect well hear a lot of republicans support this. It explains why some traditional republican Foreign Policy experts like former bush National Security advisor are not supporting donald trump and some are going so far as saying theyll vote for Hillary Clinton. It also explains why donald trump has gotten so much support from republicans who think that their Party Leadership doesnt get what is important in america. Stunning interview. Stunning interview. Very important issue. Well see the transcript as well. Anderson, over to you. We should to jakes point. That was an argument made often by the soviet union, by china, by oppressive regeimes around te world that the United States has no right to lecture. Two quick points and on the first one, why are you doing this the day before your big speech at the Republican National convention that could define whether or not you have the chance to win the presidency. I think that is what it is about. The biggest speech of his career, why would you do it now. Number two, we have the Trump Campaign, the cruz organization, squabbling for the past week after squabbling for the past months on whether youre supposed to keep your word on signing a pledge on who you will vote for in an election. A big deal, your word is your honor. Think about it youll think about it if a nato ally. This is a pledge of an organization created after world war ii that is the largest, most defining Defense Coalition in the world. The world is organized or has been, the west has been organized around nato since the worst world war. For a candidate to say ill think about it. If theyre treating us fairly. I wonder how the aforementioned representative king would respond to let me just also from this interview, donald trump was asked about the controversy over melania trump. He says he was pleased at the controversy over similarities over the passages in the speech of his wife to the one admonishel obama gave eight years ago appeared to be subsiding. It would have been better to explain what had happened. When asked what he hoped people would take away from the convention, the fact that im very well liked. There you are. I want to go back to the point jake was making about Paul Manafort. I dont want to pick on paul. At some point, never mind us, were the media. But the American People need to be able to trust the people who speak for their leaders and manafort says the New York Times is misquoting donald trump. These are not the summer interns. He is saying he was not in the room when this took place. These are two of the best, safest, most careful sorry. Let me offer another alternative here. Were dealing with donald trump who is, you know, the art of the nail and the negotiator. What is one of the things he said consistently about nato. Theyre not paying their freight. If youre of that belief, how would you open a negotiation with them by saying, hey, maybe you cant in other words that this is his opening round in the negotiation with this is not a business negotiation. This is also National Security in which you needed your enemies to believe, i mean, this is not something to be played out on a public stage. Do you think . All im saying to you is, i mean, he is not alone now anymore. The republican of the United States senators have been saying theyre not paying their fair share and we need today do something about it. This goes beyond that. You know . This goes beyond that. He is in the baltic states. If russia attacks, he would have to kind of see how things were going. And if youre part of nato, youre part of nato. If youre not, youre not. Well turkey is part of nato and they wouldnt let u. S. Planes fly the other day. The thing odd to me is tonight was supposed to be about america exceptionalism and how in fact, america is great, better, than a lot of other places and what donald trump said in this interview if im reading it correctly is when he was asked about erdogan and whether he put down the coup and it was an attempt or it was an attempt to purge his political enemies, trump said look, i dont think that i can give erdogan advice because were not a very good messenger these days in this country. Here you have republicans talking about how great this country is and you have donald trump saying you know what . Were really not that great. Lets take a step back, jeffrey, how do you square this with what we heard from mike pence tonight who promised this robust, you know, position in the world, restore American Leadership and so on theyre not necessarily in conflict. If seriously. If he is trying to reshape nato, reform it, and is going about it in this fashion which is he is famous for doing, that is not necessarily he also said americas creditors might have to take a haircut, too. Some things you just cant do. You cant play with the credit of the american i think they missed the last 13, 14 months is that donald trump does not get judged by a normal standard as other politicians. He can say and do things that other people couldnt get away with. He can, he can. The question is when youre trying to persuade people in a general election that you can be trusted as commanderinchief. Lets take a short break. Well be right back. My fellow americans. They say were a nation divided. Thats not true. We agree on a lot. Like paul rudd. Everybody loves paul rudd. I didnt know this was going to happen you know what else everyone loves . Emojis. No. Beer thats why were forming the bud light party. Just wait till you see our caucus. Weve got the biggest caucus in the country ooooeeeyyyyy im really inspired right now. And welcome back to our continuing coverage of night three of the Republican Convention. Probably one of the most exciting nights weve seen, certainly. An electrified crowd for a lot of different reasons. Does given what now donald trump has said, which seems to have surprised paul matiford in this interview in the New York Times, does he then have to address this tomorrow . He has to give a speech tomorrow outlining what he wants to do as president of the United States. There will be a lot of people on the republican staff who already were pet phied about donald trump and his world view who will view read this interview and its going be with what is this, how can he say this, how is he going to deal with this . It sort of echoed what he once said about israel, i dont necessarily want to take sides. You know, in fair ps to him, there is an isolationist feeling in part of this country. When he says we have to take care of our Country First and so on, there is asy to that. But when you Start Talking selectively about living up to b obligations, i think people draw the line and certainly there are a lot people in this room who are elected officials. One of them, i think, might be mike pence and how hes going to defend this tomorrow. Mike pence is pregnant. He aint drawing the line on this. I mean, donald trump is now his baby. You guys are i hate to break it to you device, but you guys are making way too much of a substantial, really scary issue and folks are not going to care. Headline on cnn. Com, mike pence is pregnant. No, no, given hits lgbt and womens rights views, im not sure thats the right line, but okay. Okay, after that, can i get back to this for one second . The thing that strikes me about donald trump and this interview with the times and Everything Else is that he defines everything through his view as a businessman. And the global interests of the United States are only as it pertain toes our economy. And either you look at it that way and say America First, its about our economic interests, or you look at it another way and say, yes, its about our economic interests, but we also have a responsibility to the world on human rights because thats who we are and Nuclear Deterrent and all kinds of things. And i think you either look at it the trump way or you look at it the other way, which would be the way that Hillary Clinton would obviously look at it. If i could reduce this even more than ive ever done. To what i think is a political basic here is youve got millions of people out there that are thoroughly disenchanted with the Political Class and the way theyve run the government, republican and democrat and both. So when they listen to donald trump on nato or a whole series of things, theyre discounting things like this because then for sure what the other folks do and that theyre all of the same mind and that were in this mess and they dont like it and they dont like the people who are doing this. And Hillary Clinton is the ee bit me of this. Look, the republicans that dont trust donald trump on Foreign Policy have already said so. A lot of them are supporting Hillary Clinton. I dont think its going to change the energy in this room tomorrow. I dont think its going to address it tomorrow. I dont think the speech is going to touch on that. This is one more blip on the radar screen, guys. We can have debates. There is a fair debate in the country and donald trump is on fairground saying the United States should be pushing nato to pay more. The they should increase their Defense Budgets and increase nato. By the way, theres a lot of in the United States that have tried to get them to do that, as well. Rip up trade deals, downtona trump is on safe ground there. But the ideas that tanks start rolling and your country has paid your dues so well help and your country hasnt paid and we wont, thats different. We know from research that his templement as it relates to foernl policy and National Defense has been a concern to people. If he said, as he apparently did in this interview that we cant stand up for civil lib ter is and for freedom in other countries in deck taterships because we dont set a good example here, i disagree with you. I dont think thats going to go over very well in any room. Ax, the other day he praised Saddam Hussein. Yeah. Okay. Do you think it well, thats not true. He didnt praise him. He said good things about Saddam Hussein. We have to take another break. Our coverage, though, of this remarkable night this politics continues right after. Ugh. Heartburn. Sorry maam.
