Talking. My guests tonight both turned opportunities into tv empires starting with a socalled Ring Master Of Pop Culture, andy cohen. You dont want to miss his hot take on prince harry and why discussing the Real Housewives got him hot under the collar. What do you want to say to me about that, chris . Talk about defensive. I am defensive. And Barefoot Contessa herself. How she almost passed on the biggest break of her life. I said lose my number. I didnt think anybody would want to watch me on tv. I didnt know what they saw. We have two things in common. Do i get a hint . I find cooking really hard. I find it really stressful. Do you feel your life is in danger. The love of my mother brought me here. There is a long list of bad ones. Hes the creative mind behind some of the most viral moments in reality show history sglt. The only thing that is artificial for fake me about, this. Andy cohen oversees bravos biggest hits, about a dozen shows in all. Goes to vladimir putin. While hosting his own Late Night Program pushing politicians and celebrities to spill the tea. I plead the fifth. Its been a long, strange trip from cbs news intern to wildly Successful Television executive and host. We will see you tomorrow night, everybody. And when hes not talking pop culture or ringing in the new year with his bff anderson cooper. Have you gotten high at a brisk . Andy is taking on new projects as a book author and father of two. Where is daddy . Yes so whats his reality . Were about to find out. Andy cohen, welcome. Im excited to get to talk to you and a little nervous. Well, i was going to say the same thing to be honest. Im a little worried i feel youre going in for the kill here. Im a little worried. Is there a kill to go in for . You tell me . Im a little worried youll try to turn this into Whose Talking to andy cohen . Yes. Get in there. You were on cnns new years eve special. Yes, i was. You seemed to have a great difficulty with the directive that instead of doing real shots, that you had to drink mystery nonalcoholic drinks during the course of the evening with your buddy anderson cooper. Here you are. One, two, three. Oh, that tastes what could that be . Any idea . Socks. Shoes . That is gross. Are we drinking the squeezed juice of a leather shoe . That that i need tequila, honestly so the glass was not breakable. I could i threw it. Sounded like it broke. Was it really that bad . Did you really need tequila that bad . Here is the thing. We were told not to drink much to the chagrin really of the viewers. We were very annoyed because we felt like they were saying to us, youre not capable of drinking responsibly. It just did you watch your performance the year before . I did. I went off on de blasio. The safest person to go off on in the universe. There was no one that disagreed with me. Im sorry, he had a 98 deblos owe. His wife. Look at that. Sorry. It happens. I know. Anyway, wow. That was crazy. So, you know, that was a little annoying. The mystery shots were something that we came up with to have fun. It was fun. I think the audience loves to see Anderson Grimace after he takes a shot and so this in my mind was a way to get him to do that and it was a way to have fun and like look, were still having shots. Now, yes, that was two hours into the night. It was raining. I just yeah, i had a little moment there which anderson slapped my wrist during the commercial break. He said you got to get it together, dude. That was my only moment where i was i really wanted some tequila. But andy otherwise, we had a blast and i would argue, we really didnt about differently than we act when were drinking. Except you didnt attack the current mayor of new york. I didnt but im waiting for that. [ laughter ] you going to let him earn it . Yes, exactly. Were going to put up on the Screen Everything that youre involved in. Okay. Look at this. You executive produce 11 Different Properties for nbc universal. Yes. You have two separate channels on sirus xm including the apply named radio andy and youre about to release your fifth, count them, fifth book. Someone said if youre not the architect of our celebrity culture, youre the ring master of our celebrity culture. Why do you think everything you do is so popular . I think listen. I think the housewives initially. I owe a great deal of my success to these women on this show which i think replaced the modern soap opera in our Tv Land Scape and so, thats the place that i started and i think that ive been able to connect with my audience in a way thats authentic and that is a real dialogue and somehow keeps the conversation keeps going and im grateful for it. All right. You talk about the housewives. Thats your biggest franchise. You have ten. I know. Ten. All the way from new jersey to Beverly Hills to dubai. Yes. And here is a taste of some of the more viral moments. Oh god. Now youre going to show the wine tossing and Table Flip Sglg wo flipping. Would i do that . Thats what you do. I love it. Shut your [ bleep ] mouth. I had enough of you you prbeast beast . How dare you. How dare me . Dont touch my husband ever. Dont ever touch for getting to know you better want to talk about me or everybody you know. Never get near my husband. Everybody will know. [ bleep ] do you understand that . Stay the [ bleep ] away from my husband. Folks, while were doing this, andy is looking at this going okay, okay. I mean, is that unrepresentative of Real Housewives. It is a part of it, yes. I would say listen, what youre looking at there was the climax of an entire season of the housewives of Beverly Hills. Were not going to show the boring part. That happened. That was highly dramatic and highly charged and when you get to that point, you have three episodes of talking about what happened. I mean, its all within the confines of the show but so, yes, that happened. What do you want to say to me about that, chris . [ laughter ] wow. Talk about defensive. I know. I am a little defensive. Yes. A couple of things. Okay. First of all, is that for real or are they just playing . Theyre not playing. It for real. We cast highly dramatic women. Look, are they aware the cameras are there . Are they you know, i think the Beverly Hills housewives of all of them are the most aware that theyre on a television show. So but yes, of course theyre aware the cameras are there and but come to a Reunion Taping sometime, chris. You will see that they feel the way they feel, they just happen to feel things maybe stronger than your neighbor next door. One of your books. Yeah. Is titled super official not by opinion. Thats your title. Another book is a deep look at a shallow year. Yes. Are you at all embarrassed by what you did . No. Im really not. Because it makes so many people happy. I go back to me being in st. Louis as a kid watching All My Children for years and years and years and i loved All My Children. It was The Great Escape for me. I think this show represents that for a lot of people and i think it is it can be really confrontational. It can sometimes be something thats a little difficult to swallow but i think its also about in the real great moments, its about being a wife and a mother and a sister and a friend and a whole lot more. So yes, theres all that and then theres a whole lot more. Jennifer shaw. Yes. Who was a member of the salt lake city. Yeah. Real housewives series was sentenced to 6. 5 years in prison for defrauding thousands. Youre on the record last november as saying you hope she would get no jail time and the question i have is why would you take her side against the thousands of people she defrauded including a lot of elderly i think i was hoping she was actually innocent. She pled guilty. That was before she pled guilty that i said that. I would think. No, i think it was after. Oh, really . Yes. Oh, god. Anyway, wow, this is fun. You were easy to crack there. I know, exactly. Look, i think i dont know what the context of me saying that was but i think that the context was people kept demanding of me what is her status with the show . Im like its up for the its up to the judge. Shes about to get sentenced to a lot of jail time. Youre saying she didnt do something bad. Yes, she did. So she should go to jail. I was saying look, i you know, sometimes if you get to know someone and get to like them you hope that they are not guilty of something horrible. Okay. Okay . Yes. So. Then there is your show watch what happens live. Yes. Five nights a week. You going to come on as a guest. Have you ever asked me to be a guest . Im asking you now. Youd have fun. I know. Dan rather has been on several times. I know that. What do you think is the appeal of the show . It authentic and fun and takes Late Night Television and turns it inside out. There is no preinterview. Theres there its just fun and its spontaneous and, you know, you never know whats going to happen. One of the things thats a secret to success is great guests and i want to show a clip of you with meryl streep. Yes. Dustin hoffman. Yeah. Jack nickel son. Yeah. Robert medford, marry one, shag one, kill one. Radford marry maybe. Okay. Yeah, okay. And jack, shag. Okay. And dustin ex nay . Dustin very good. First of all, how big a deal to get somebody like meryl streep on the show and how big a deal that she played along . I mean, i love when she said shag jack. Yes. Very big deal. That was actually about four years into our were now 14 years into doing watch what happens live. That was early in the run and a huge Turning Point for us to get meryl streep to do the show. Big deal. Still to come from the professional to the personal, andy opens up about how fatherhood at 50 has changed him. And he doesnt hold back when i ask about the royal pr blitz. Andy cohen is synonymous with reality tv. Many want his take on the latest celebrity and thats where our conversation continues. So im going to ask you the toughest question in the whole interview. Really . I want you to be honest about this. Okay. Do you think that harry and meghan have become a bore . Do i think they have become a bore . No. I think that as i watched his 60 minutes interview, i thought, you know, as hes talking about his brothers balding head and how hes losing his looks and all this stuff and says no, we love each other and i you know, im you know, the ball is in their court and all this stuff. I think that maybe there was a way for him to do it without torching the bridge but also telling a story, which is so compelling. What a fascinating life but i you know, the torching everything and all the details and i cut my back on the fight with my brother. I mean, i know a lot of brothers who have beat the crap out of each other, you know. Hiss his brother is now the future king of england. Right. I think the move is for william. Harrys book is called spare. Yes. I think william should write a book called heir and tell his story. I dont think thats what they do. I dont, either. No, i guess part of what im asking is oprah interview, okay. Okay. The sixpart series on netflix. Now youre writing a book. I mean, at a certain point, doesnt this show need to be cancelled . Well, im buying the book, by the way. As much as im seeing, im getting the book, but yeah, theyre look. Its expensive to live in california. You know . Theyre cashing out. Theyre cashing out. And they got one story to tell and theyre going to tell it. Theyre going to tell it all right now tha. Theyre not leaving anything on the table. That, Ladies And Gentlemen is from the Ring Master Of Pop Culture in america today. Right. You grew up in st. Louis. I did. Your two idols were susan lucic. You talked about the fact you loved All My Children. And Sam Donaldson. And sam dan ndonaldson. Im the Sam Donaldson of housewives. It erica cane, susan lucic, shes now Lisa Vanderpump on the Real Housewives and and youre Sam Donaldson. Its in the diagram im right there in the middle between lucic and donaldson. I backed right into it. Its kind of incredible. In college, you got to interview susan lucic and you say and we have a picture of it. You say it changed your life. It did. It i was in a news writing and reporting class. I was a broadcast journalism major at Boston University and i had a professor who said okay, this assignment is interview someone and write a profile of them as an interview. He said shoot for the stars. And so i sent letters to Sam Donaldson and susan lucic and i wish i had a copy of the letter i sent to lucics publicist but it was good enough she said yeah, you can do this. And i flew to new york and susan lucic took me to lunch and wow. It really did because i was at that time such an All My Children fan and i was like wow, there say whole business behind this universe and its not just fun and games that i see on tv and it just it pulled back the curtain in a way and it also showed me that i could do it and, you know, i have the interview on tape on audio tape. I am just talking over her the whole time. I mean, its just as bad as it could be. It did change my it showed me the possibility of the world out there and i could be part of it. You have talked about the struggle that you had coming to terms with and particularly, sharing the fact that you are gay. Yeah. I think reading about the dianna ross poster on your bedroom. Wall. Wall was an early tell. Give away, yes. But when you finally came out. Yeah. To the public. Yeah. It was on a Real Housewives reunion. Thats true. Here it is. Its just a figure of speech. Like, he wasnt calling the instructor gay. I guess what he was doing, he felt like, you know, whatever. Its just a figure of speech. I think everyone in jersey says it. Ill jump in and i have no Business Jump income but im gay and i thought it was offensive. I just want to say. Thank you. What what because you dont hang out with him, either. Im not saying your husband is homohomophobic. Im saying i think it was offensive. I do. Do you think the fact youre all over tv has helped erase the stigma for people for whom it is a stigma about being gay in america at this point . I think visibility is very important. And ive talked to a lot of moms who watch housewives with their sons who their sons later said im gay. So the answer is i hope so. I certainly hope so. It would be nice. When i was growing up, it was paul lind and Charles Nelson raleigh. The Secret Square or something. The Secret Square and the joke teller and the you know. So it wasnt necessarily though some would argue i have a bit of paul lind and Charles Nelson raleigh in me. I wasnt necessarily who aspire to be but i wanted to be myself on tv and the fact ive been able to do that is a great makes me really happy. Part of being yourself is you are the father of two beautiful little children, benjamin and lucy you can see. We have pictures of them here who youre raising as a single dad, how rewarding is that and how tough is that . Both. Its both. I have a new book Coming Out In May called the Daddy Diaries. Its and its called the Daddy Diaries the year i grew up. This year will lucy was born an feels like 54 years in ive been waiting to grow up and i felt a weight about me that ive never felt before, frankly. I didnt even feel with one. With two, its intense. And its wonderful and its rewarding and i have so 34much gratitude and i feel so much calmer than ive ever felt and i spent so much of my Life Partying and running around and getting on planes and being, you know, wild that, you know, i spent christmas at home looking at a lot of people that i know in st. Barts on instagram and all this stuff and im like im exactly where i want to be. This is great. So that happened. Having a kid late in life, having kids late in life, that was perfect for me. When i had them, i was exactly who i wanted where i wanted to be and who i wanted to be so them coming in, i could now devote everything to them. Which is great. Still to come, the Barefoot Contessa recipe for success. Foot network star anna tells me why she swapped a job in the white house for white bean stew. I guess the question i still have is what were you thinking . I have no idea. This is how it feels to du more with less asthma. Thanks to dupixent. Dupixent is not for sudden breathing problems. Its an addon treatment for specific types of moderatetosevere asthma. And can help improve Lung Function for better breathing in as little as two weeks. Dupixent helps prevent asthma attacks. Get help right away if you have rash, chest pain, worsening shortness of breath, tingling or numbness in your limbs. Tell your doctor about new or worsening joint aches and pain, or a parasitic infection. Dont change or Stop Asthma Medicines, including steroids, without talking to your doctor. Who knows what you can do when you du more with less asthma. Ask your Asthma Specialist about dupixent. Im over 45. I realize im no spring chicken. I know whats right for me. Ive got a plan to which im sticking. My doc wrote me the script. Box came by mail. Showed up on friday. I did golos a Lifestyle Change and you make the change and it stays off. soft music shes known to the world as the Barefoot Contessa. Shes a staple on the food network for two decades making meals into millions of homes. If i had to stop crying onions. Part of her appeal. Looking good. Is her cooking tips feel like advice from a big sister. Id say we have a nice desert for the party. Life hasnt always been a dinner party. She spent her early career in washington Crunching Numbers instead of nuts. I used to dream of a job where all i had to do was cook all day long. Shes not only realized that dream, she has far surpassed it and now cooked up a new project she hopes will continue to delight her fans. Thats just perfect. Ina, welcome. So great to sit down with you again. I always love to see you. Thank you. Lets start with your 13th and latest cookbook go to dinners. I have a question. What does that mean . Go to. Go to means there are dinners youve made and you go i want to make that over and over and over again. You got like a list of things you know are going to work and going to be Crowd Pleasers and everybody is going to love them. Thats what a goto dinner is. Is it easy or you know it will be did. It could be anything. It could be its so delicious. Whatever it does, it appeals to you and i just think there are certain things, even i after 13 books, how many recipes have i written . 1,000. There are certain recipes i go to all the time like an apple tart and back to basics and just there are things you just Roast Chicken. Goto recipes. Lets talk about your food empire. You sold more than 7 million copies. We have 14 million in print. I stand corrected. Youve had your show on the food network for 20 years. How would you describe how you built your brand over the last two decades . You know, one of the things i dont have a grand plan. I really just do what i love to do. I get up in the morning. I think what do i feel like doing today . Testing recipes. And so thats what i do. In the middle i do a little tv because i think its important for people to know how to do something. I mean, its one thing to read a recipe on a page but its another thing to see somebody actually do it. Are you really saying because i think youre somewhat under selling yourself. Are you saying that all of this just happened . There must at various points been thought about i would say every 20 years i get incredibly bored and i just go okay, i have to change all of this. If i wake up in the morning and im a little scared about what how this will work out, im not happy. Okay. Lets go back. Mid 70s youre in washington d. C. Working in the ford and Carter Administration and youre Writing Budgets for the governments Nuclear Energy programs. One, how did that come about and two, how was that for you . I started in i mean, i worked at the federal Power Commission through a few jobs and ended up a year and a half later in the white house legislative office. So we would write do a writeup of whatever legislation so the president knew whether to sign it or not. I dont know how i just figured out how to do it. Of all the legislation, i was really interested in science so i got very close to the people who were doing science and technology and they had an opening for somebody in the Nuclear Energy area. As you say, at the end of wasnt 20 years but at the end of that period, you get board with it and now we get to 1978 where and, you know, i find this story really remarkable. I know its out there. You see an ad, a small ad in a newspaper. A terrible ad. For a food store. Yeah. In the hamptons called the Barefoot Contessa and decide to flip careers. You and jeffrey, your husband well get to later decide to buy it. I guess the question i still have is what were you thinking . I have no idea. I thought it would be fun. I mean, i remember coming into the small town West Hampton Beach and its literally one block long and there was this little Specialty Foods store like the size of this table and they were Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies and i thought Nuclear Energy budgets, Chocolate Chip cod cookies. Id literally do that. I made the woman a very low offer. Shell come pack and negotiate and she called me the next day in my office and said thank you very much, i accept your office. I went oh shit. Fortunately, were on cable so you can say that. I actually have to do this. In 1999 you write your first cookbook the Barefoot Contessa the food network comes after you to start your own show and for a good period of time. Year and a half. You say no. I say lose my number. I just i didnt think that anybody would want to watch me on tv. I didnt know what they saw. Why didnt you think . I dont know. I just couldnt i never done tv. I just didnt couldnt imagine that i knew it was the era of Nigela Lawson on tv and she was so sexy and the spaghetti and just i just thought thats not who i am. But they just they were very persistent and found a producer whose work i liked and they called and said i we hired them. Theyre coming to your house in two weeks. I was like whoa. I didnt say id do it. They said do a few shows and see how it goes. So in 2002 you start your show and given that youve got a brand to sell, its called the Barefoot Contessa and we have a clip from your very first episode. You do . Yes. It looks wonderful, yogurt, fresh rosemary, lemon zest and Salt And Pepper and last thing ill put the lamb in. This is the goo messy part. The cooks best tools are clean hands and thats what im using. Take all the lamb and put sbiet this marinade and you smutz it around. So oh. Its good and messy. You know, thats a technical term smutz. Its a cooking term. How would you rate yourself as a tv professional cook back then . I remember when i saw that first show, and we were still filming. They sent the film back to london because the producer was from london and they showed it to me and i said, its actually not as bad as i feared. It was like it was okay. Which shocked me. I was goinging to say, for a first show you were unbebelievely natural. Over the years, you and the show have grown and we want to show the new improved professional ina garten. Here you are doing your Engagement Chicken you call because a lot of couples got married over this meal. Salt and pepper on top. Want this to be the best chicken ever. Who wouldnt want to marry you if you made them this . Perfect Roast Chicken. I got to say, that is mouth watering. That looks sensational. So i love talking to people about their process. What is your process in creating a recipe . How Pain Stat Staking is it . I start out with i have a list of maybe 75 recipes that im always working on. So i get up in the morning and look at that list and i go, this Salad Sounds Good today so ill make lentil salad. I have a flavor and texture in my head that im kind of working towards and then i might read what other people say about lentil salad and put away the books and i just start making lentil salad and for thats actually a good example because very elusive flavor in lentil salad i couldnt figure out what it was and i went to france and a friend said what people do what french women do is put a turn up when theyre cooking the lentils and throw the turn up away so its kind of an elusive flavor that gives the depth of flavor i was looking for. How did you know because i tasted lentil salad in france and i knew there was a flavor in there i was missing when i was cooking and i wasnt happy until i got there. There is this little ping that goes in my head when i just go okay, thats what i was looking for. And then once you create it, youve got to be sure that the recipe is duplicatable. People can use it. Right. So how does that what happens there . I have two people that work for me. One is a better cook than the other and i give them both separately different days a piece of paper because everybody gets a book with a piece of paper in it that says cook this and i watch them cook it. Did you want the carrots cut straight akrcross or diagonally . I forgot to put that. We may make the recipe ten or 20 times. Not that it worked for me but i want to make sure it works for you. When we come back, how inas thoughts about cooking and entertaining changed in the wake of the pandemic. And we test whether her love for her husband jeffrey is still rock solid. Ina garten is not only known for savory recipes but famous for dinner parties. Like the rest of us, when the covid pandemic hit, inas routine changed, especially when it come to cooking. I came to the conclusion after working on writing a cook back and Testing Recipes for that. I was helping people on Instagram Try to figure out what to do with the white beans they had in their pantry and bought but didnt know what to do with it so i was making recipes for instagram and then i realized i have to make dinner for jeffrey and me, too. Lunch and dinner. Every once in awhile id make an omelet and grilled piece of spread and it was so simple and satisfying. You become a little less talk home made versus store bought. There are ingredients, i dont know why anyone would want to make have vanilla ice cream. There is great vanilla ice cream. I like to concentrate on stuff you cant get that like a good Roast Chicken. You cant buy a good Roast Chicken in the market. If it comes out of the oven, it makes the house smell good and its a different experience. Those are the things i like to concentrate on. I like to use things one of the things ive been doing is instead of stuffing a chicken or a turkey or whatever you might want to stuff, i make a bread pudding. I make instead of cutting up the bread and toasting it so it absorbs the pudding mix, i just buy pep ridge farm stuffing mix. Nobody knows the stuff king mixs in there but its easier. Why not . One of the things that you advocated during the lockdowns was drinking. [ laughter ] here is me . Yeah, here is a look. Two cups of vodka. Good vodka. Shake it for 30 seconds. Loa lots of time. Its not a problem. Stay safe. Have a very good time and dont forget the cocktails. Mmmm. Delicious. [ laughter ] that video of you and your giant cosmo. Dont misthe hair. That was covid hair, too. Nobody has noticed the hair. Theyre looking at the drink. You had more than 3 million followers. Thats a riot. It was just a lark. I had enough ingredients to make one large cosmo and started pouring stuff in and set up the camera. I was by myself. Poured the stuff in. Everything together and i poured it into this biggest Cocktail Shaker i had and poured it and i remember thinking oh my god, i think i did it. So i sent it to a friend of mine who is a Film Producer, famous Film Producer and said is this okay . Hes like post it now. So i did and i thought, i thought a few people would think it fun. Little did i know. 3 million viewers. I think it will be in my obituary. There will be a little video of that. Your fans know that we have left out a big part of the story you referred to it briefly before when youre 15 years old, you go to visit your brother at Dartmouth College and a fellow student there named Jeffrey Garten spots you. How quickly did the two of you become an item . He was in the library with his roommate and said look at that girl. Remember, im the only girl Walking Around the dartmouth campus in october. It was all men there. All men there. It was his roommate from our tennis club and my brother fixed me up on a date with him. So he said oh, i know who that is. Thats Ina Rosenburg and jeffrey said really . So after the date, he said to his roommate, are you interested in her or can i call he said no, shes an old friend. Im not going out on a date with her. And jeffrey wrote to me. Remember those days when people wrote letters . He wrote to me. Before he met you. I never met him. He just saw me. He wrote to you before he met you. To say can i come to connecticut and take you out . And literally showed up six months later. He remembered for six months hed seen me on campus, which is amazing. And he took me out. We had a disastrous first date. I thought hillill never see hi again and he came and kept coming around. So you and jeffrey have been married now for 54 years. And he has become hes a very distinguished fellow. Economics professor, the dean of the Business School at yale. Hes also become a character on your show and we have some clips. Oh, yeah. Hes really extraordinary. And, you know, he just makes me feel like im the only thing in the world he cares about. Just wonderful. I feel the same way about him. Thats pretty great. Its pretty great. Anyone who as beloved and popular and successful as you will have critics and one of the things that critics say shes your food is too heavy. Im sure youve heard that. Too much meat in it, too much dairy and too high fat. The ama rates me at a d minus. Is that true . Something like that. Okay. But you know what . My food is real. I think if you cook and serve real food, i think youre better off. I think its healthier. So everybody chooses how to what they like to eat, whether they want to eat fish and vegetables or eat hamburgers and baked potatoes. I think that my food is real and i think thats good for people. Also have a choice and you can eat one kind of meal one day and another kind another grilled salmon and pie for desert. Everybody meanwhile, you have started a new show on the food network called be my guest, which is part cooking, part interview. And we have a clip of you with wonderful actress, emily blunt. Oh, the best. If you could come back as anything, what would you come back as . Ina garten. Please be careful what you wish for. How about we trade . Okay. Good plan. Good deal. Good deal. Im really interested when people meet barriers and figure out their way around it and they just dont stop. I think thats what successful people do. Each one of these guests have incredible emily blunt have a debilitating stutter as a child. And that actually led her to acting, amazingly. If she hadnt had the stutter, she might not be an actor. I started doing the show because i thought it would be interesting to talk to people. What i found out, its so satisfying, those connections. Just sitting and talking to somebody like this and having the conversation that you wish you always had at a dinner party but you probably dont. So, i want to leave folks with one of your favorite recipes, chocolate cake. What advice do you have for someone who watched the show, watched you right there, and said, that looks sensational, but ina garten is not a master chef. I cant do that. Im actually not a master chef, and it works to my benefit. I find cooking really hard. I find it really stressful. And i write recipes so you can make things that are really simple and absolutely delicious. If you follow the instructions in that recipe, itll come out perfectly every time. And you say, the most important thing is keep it simple. And when youre entertaining particularly, keep it relaxed. Because at the end of the day, the thing that makes a great party is that the host is having fun. If the host or hostess is, like, crying and sweating and going crazy, no ones going to have fun. Order a pizza, make a fabulous caesar salad, order an apple tart for desert and having a really good time. Coming up, the eight seconds one of our upcoming guests will never forget. , ill take that. This digital age were living in, its pretty unbelievable. Problem is, not everyones fully living in it. Everyone should have it and now a lot more people can. So lets go. The digital age is waiting. Its award season in hollywood, which means its time for daring red carpet outfits, acceptance speeches that go on too long, and, in at least one case, famous people mispronouncing each others names. Please welcome the wickedly talented, one and only, adele John Travoltas filiblub introducing adina idina menzel. But for menzel, it was so much more. What was your Immediate Reaction when you heard that . And when did you realize what a huge gift he had given you . Okay. So, i had done a lot of preparation because i was super nervous about that night. And i knew that it was going to be meryl streep and brad pitt sitting in the front row. I had done a bunch of meditation about visualizing, manifesting that that night would go well for me. And i also told myself, i was just going to sing to my son and make it about singing to my son, walker, and nothing else. So, i had all this preparation going on. And they get me out there, and they set me, and the spotlight comes on. And he says that, and i have about eight seconds to get my together. S together. And what goes in my head all in those eight seconds, did he just screw up my name, oh, my god, why is this happening to me, this is my dream, get over yourself, get over your pity party, brad pitt is here, and sing it was all in eight seconds. It was like, sing to walker, sing to walker, and be serious. And then, yes, i came on stage, and then i realized that what a great gift it would be. Because i had all these followers in the Broadway World and people that were saying, how could he screw up her name. But then there were all these people that didnt know me from other demographics and walks of life that maybe hadnt been to the theater and dont know that side who said, whos this girl theyre talking about . So, then i you know, it actually widened my audience and ended up being a great thing. Now its fun to just laugh about. Have you ever messed up somebodys name that badly . Yeah, but not at the oscars and maybe not quite that badly.
