how different might this all look from what happened in afghanistan? >> well, it's too early to really do these comparisons, jake. but of course, the idea that they won't enter ukraine is absolutely appropriate right now. but the russians should be concerned. america is a powerful country. it is somewhat unpredictable. in 1950, when the north koreans invaded south korea, the united states was supposed to not do anything. and yet the united states did do something. we reacted strongly and became engaged. in conflict. so russia can't be sure what nato is going to do. the situation is unpredictable. suppose the russians come in quickly. it is over in a day. there is no appreciable suffering, okay, okay. suppose it isn't over in a day. suppose you get the casualty reports and they've used chemical weapons or something, and they're brutalizing people.
